Aiden: You okay?
Hope: [Sighs] I'm fine.
Aiden: Here--no, no. Let me help you.
Hope: No, no, just-- just leave me alone. [Sighs] Please.
Daniel: Hey, mom.
Maggie: Bad time?
Daniel: Nope, nope. I'm just getting together information for the D.A.'S office-- a list of all the drugs Kristen used on Eric, everything I got to throw the book at her.
Maggie: Well, let's hope she doesn't decide to come after you next.
Daniel: No, no. Don't worry about that, mom. Nope, I brought her back to Salem. And I gave her exactly what she thought she wanted.
Maggie: Well, she'll feel otherwise when she has to pay for her crimes.
Daniel: Yeah, well, I hope so. But you're not here to talk to me about Kristen.
Maggie: Daniel... [Clears throat] There's another woman that I think you need to watch out for. Eve Donovan.
JJ: Uh, what did Theresa tell you?
Eve: Nothing. Was there something she was supposed to tell me?
Theresa: Well, is it hot in here or is it just the two of you?
Paige: Uh, aunt Theresa, what are you doing here?
Theresa: If you want a guy to stick around, you have to hold out for as long as possible. Because once you give JJ, or any man, what he wants, he'll be gone in a Salem second.
Paige: JJ's not like that.
Paige: Oh, honey. Of course he is.
Abigail: Oh, I'm gonna get this box.
Ben: What box?
Abigail: This one over here--
Ben: No, no, don't! [Groans] [Scoffs]
EJ: No, thank you, Helmut, for your time. Yes, I'll be in touch.
EJ: Well, I have now personally called each and every-- oh, uh, I personally called each and every board member. And I have assured them that no matter what they may read in William's article, there is no cause for concern.
Sami: And you did it just in time to have lunch.
EJ: Yes, I did. Let me call cook. I thought we could eat out on the veranda.
Sami: Um, EJ, I was sort of hoping that we could go out.
EJ: Out in public?
Sami: That's what it usually means.
Paige: If I wanted to listen to someone trashing JJ, I'd just talk to my mom. At least she knows me.
Theresa: Yeah, but she doesn't know JJ, not the way that I do. And, come on, you know that eve is a hot mess when it comes to guys.
Paige: And you're not?
Theresa: Look, you're just-- you're missing my point. Paige, come on, listen to me. I am all for you and JJ, okay? Enjoy it. Just remember that it will not last.
JJ: I just know that this is, like, the last place you'd want to be. So I just figured Theresa probably made up some story or something to get you over here.
Eve: So, um, what are you doing back so early? And where's my daughter?
JJ: She's unpacking. Were you worried that she was with me? Did you come over here to check up on us?
Eve: No, actually I came here for my check, see, my share of your dad's royalties from the book. I mean, it was sent here by mistake.
JJ: Oh, well, I mean, I don't know where that is and my mom's at work.
Eve: Well, what about your sister? I mean, she's gotta be around here somewhere, right? I mean, it's not like she has a job or any place else to go. I mean-- no, I'm just saying, I need somebody to find my check, like, now.
JJ: All right.
JJ: Look around.
Eve: Okay. I wasn't interrupting your practice time, was I?
JJ: No, I was just messing around.
Eve: Hm. Paige says you're a very talented musician. But, uh, if you're just messing around, I'm kind of wondering how good you can be. Paige's opinion is obviously biased, but mine won't be. So let's hear how good you really are.
Aiden: You can't even get up. Why would I leave you like that?
Hope: [Sighs] Because I asked you to.
Aiden: Look, I run too. And you're gonna have to work out that knot.
Aiden: Trust me.
Aiden: Oh, sorry, sorry, sorry.
Maggie: You know what? You might not think that eve is worth worrying about now that this lawsuit is over. But let me tell you, you couldn't be further from the truth.
Daniel: Okay. What does that mean?
Maggie: Okay. You give eve Donovan a wide berth, all right?
Maggie: [Scoffs] Let me count the ways.
JJ: [Strumming guitar]
Eve: Suspended fourth? Interesting.
JJ: Mm, good ear.
Eve: [Chuckles] You know, when I was your age, I saved up all the money I had just to buy a guitar. And I sang to the top of my lungs. I played until my fingers bled, everybody's ears too. [Chuckles]
JJ: Well, actually, I'm sure that's not true, 'cause Paige says that you have a gorgeous voice.
Eve: I had. Music has always been a passion. It's one thing that I could count on. It's pretty much saved my life.
JJ: Well, I get it.
Eve: You know, the one song that I was driven to learn when I was little, I mean, just had to learn it, it was-- a teacher played it for me when I was in school. I mean, I bet you don't even know the song.
JJ: Try me.
Eve: It goes, uh-- [Clears throat] Oh [Clears throat] Oh Shenandoah no, it sounds terrible.
JJ: Uh, kinda.
Paige: Thanks for the helpful advice, Theresa, but I've gotta get going, so--
Theresa: Yeah, but I've got a lot more to say. Paige, I really am on your side, okay? And if you hear me out, I promise that I will forget everything that I saw before with you and JJ, okay?
Paige: I really need to drop by the club to--
Theresa: Oh, perfect. I could really use a Marti-- mocha latte. Come on, let's go. It's my treat. Come on, here.
EJ: If we are seen together, you're thinking that that sends the right signal to the board?
Sami: EJ, I have no doubt that you did a good job convincing the board. I just thought we could have lunch and go out and enjoy the day. I mean, we don't have to if you don't want to.
EJ: No, absolute-- no, I would love to.
Sami: Okay, great.
EJ: Samantha, look. I know that we're having lunch because of our quid pro quo arrangement, but I would just like to say thank you. I'm very grateful for the opportunity to talk, just-- just talk.
Sami: Let's just see how it goes, okay?
Abigail: You have the keys though, right?
Ben: Nah, they're still in the lock.
Abigail: I can't get a signal. Ugh! Damn phone.
Ben: Abigail, we're in a basement. It's not the phone's fault.
Abigail: No, I know. It's my fault that we're trapped.
Ben: Hey, at least it wasn't me. Come on, if I had locked us in here, you probably would've thought I was making a move or something.
Abigail: I'd hope that you have better moves than that. Ben, I'm--I'm sorry. I'm such an idiot. I-I should've known that the box was there for a reason.
Ben: No, no, it's okay. Look, there's an air vent. We're not gonna suffocate.
Abigail: Yeah, but God knows how long we'll be down here.
Ben: Sonny and t know I'm here. They'll come looking for me eventually.
Abigail: How long is eventually?
Ben: I guess we could be here a while.
Ben: In the meantime...
summer days drifting away to, uh oh, those summer nights
Sami: My grandmother's not here, if I'm reading your mind correctly.
EJ: Well, I was just checking my peripheral vision, to make sure there wasn't a frying pan flying in my general direction.
Sami: [Chuckles] Well, she does know where you live.
EJ: Right, of course.
Sami: We've been spotted. So, um, I only overheard the last of your conversation with Helmut. It went well?
EJ: It did, yes.
Sami: And Valdez?
EJ: He was a little bit tougher to-- I managed to convince him that you and I were united and that we were working very well together.
Sami: Good. I'm sorry.
Sami: Well, this conversation isn't supposed to be about business, right? We're having lunch. It's supposed to social and I agreed to that, so--
Roman: [Exhales] Oh, lord, please...
Roman: Let this be a divorce negotiation.
Ben: I have something to show you.
Abigail: Okay. [Giggles] Oh, huh. That's, uh...
Ben: Yeah, and there's a lot more where this come from.
Abigail: Not what I thought--
Ben: [Laughs] You know what? We could survive down here for a really long time, if we had to.
Abigail: Yeah, if you can open this with your teeth.
Ben: Uh, I'm very resourceful.
Abigail: Yes, you are.
Abigail: [Laughs] Oh. [Chuckles]
Ben: I hope you like tuna.
Abigail: We are not going to have just tuna.
Abigail: Nope. How does albacore salade nicoise a la Abigail sound?
Abigail: I'll need some space to work.
Ben: I'll set us a table.
Abigail: Okay, perfect.
Ben: You know, I'm starting to hope they don't find us now.
Aiden: Will you keep an eye out, warn me if anyone's coming?
Aiden: Well, with my luck, it'll be father Louis. He'll see what's going on here and decide to auction me off as a massage therapist at next year's gala.
Hope: [Laughs] Don't.
Aiden: Although, what do you think Giselle would bid?
Hope: Ah! Don't make me laugh, please. Okay, stop. It hurts too much when I do. Okay, just--
Aiden: Well, isn't laughter supposed to be the best medicine?
Hope: No, no, no, I mean it, don't. Just, um, keep doing what you're doing. Yeah, just--
Aiden: Is it helping?
Hope: Uh-huh, yep. Just maybe, um, a little harder.
Aiden: Is that good?
Hope: Yeah. Uh, it's, um-- it's-- you--you did it. It's, um-- it's gone. So, duke, what do you think of our new bush's baked beans video game?
Theresa: You know, I never really got advice from my big sis growing up, so I just-- I wanna tell you something that I learned the hardest way possible. You think that--that people are looking out for you, that they're on your side, but you can't count on them, Paige. Okay, the only person you can count on is yourself.
Paige: [Laughs] That sounds pretty cynical.
Theresa: No, I'm just being realistic. Look, I know you think of Kim and Shane as being the cool grandparents who let you stay out till midnight and eat ice cream whenever you want, but try living with them every day.
Paige: It doesn't sound so bad to me.
Theresa: No, no, no, they-- look, all they ever did was judge me, okay? They never helped me out.
Paige: I'm sorry, but I've never felt that way. I have my mom.
Theresa: Your mom?
Paige: We get along, mostly. And she's always looked out for me, so--
Theresa: [Scoffs] I--
Theresa: I just--I think you have that all backwards. I mean, you do realize you're the one taking care of her, don't you?
Maggie: There is something I wanna tell you about eve. A long time ago, when your sister was young, eve nearly killed her.
Maggie: It was an accident. She stole a car and she ran down Sarah in the road.
Daniel: My God.
Maggie: Now I know-- look, I know it was an accident. And I know people change. But eve--it's clear that she hasn't. See, there's--there was always one thing or another with her in those days. And so now that this-- well, now that she's settled this lawsuit with Jennifer, she is bound to get restless. And she's looking for trouble to stir up.
Daniel: Okay, I appreciate the warning, I really, really do. But I know all about eve.
Maggie: You are just the type that she sets her sights on.
Daniel: Well, she's not getting anywhere with me.
Maggie: Good. Okay, now all I have to do is worry about JJ.
Daniel: JJ, why?
Maggie: Mm-hmm. Well, you know the girl that he's dating is eve's daughter?
Daniel: Yeah, Paige. And Paige is great.
Maggie: Yes, she is.
Daniel: She is terrific for JJ and vice versa. The fact that eve is her mother? Completely irrelevant.
JJ: How about we take it from the top?
Eve: How about we don't?
JJ: Did you forget the words?
Eve: [Laughs] No. JJ, I have sung that song probably, mm, 10,000 times.
JJ: Well, then do it 10,001.
Eve: [Sighs] [Clears throat]
JJ: [Strumming guitar]
Eve: Oh Shenandoah
I long to hear you away rolling river oh Shenandoah I long to hear you away I'm bound away across the wide
Eve: It's been seven years
Both: Since I've last seen you
Eve: [Vocalizing] [Coughs]
JJ: Oh, are you okay?
Eve: Do I look okay? [Clears throat]
Aiden: Uh, yeah. You know, you should try standing on that leg and make sure it's okay.
Hope: Yeah. It's good. I'm fine. Thank you.
Aiden: Yeah. All right, good. You know what? I'm gonna, uh, let you get back to your run, okay?
Hope: Okay, thanks.
Aiden: All right, yeah. You know what? Um, this is crazy. And it has to stop.
Aiden: Hope, we both know how I feel about you. So it's everyday sun exposure
Ben: Mm, wait.
Abigail: Uh-oh. What are you doing now?
Ben: What is a picnic without dessert?
Abigail: [Gasps] I was thinking the same thing.
Abigail: [Gasps] Almond?
Ben: Don't tell me you're allergic.
Abigail: No, no. Almonds are, like, my absolute favorite ever. I just never get to have them because JJ hates them.
Ben: Yeah, well, good thing he's not stuck down here with us.
Abigail: Yeah, among, um, other reasons. [Chuckles]
Ben: Jordan would be claustrophobic. She would go nuts.
Abigail: You know, I kind of think it would depend on who she's stuck with.
Ben: Yeah. I really hope she and Rafe can find a way to just work things out. You know, he's not my favorite guy in the world, but--
Abigail: She really loves him.
Ben: Yeah. She sacrificed so much for me. You know, it's about time she gets a break.
Abigail: Yeah. I know it's been-- it's been really hard on you with your dad here-- you and Jordan. My dad and I, uh, we had our problems too. And it wasn't like yours at all, I know, but I just-- I don't want you to wish that you gave him a second chance and then--
Ben: Abigail, don't. Please, this is perfect. Don't ruin it by bringing him up.
Sami: EJ, would you excuse us for a second? Daddy... uh, EJ and I are discussing something very important.
Roman: What about? And what are you doing still living in that house? And why are you letting him run your life?
Sami: Daddy, please. Please, please, let me handle this. I'm doing my best to make sure it's under control, I promise.
Roman: All right. I'll call you later.
Sami: [Clears throat] So, sorry about that.
EJ: No need. Look, I know that we had said we weren't going to talk about business, but there is just one thing I would like to say.
Sami: I'm listening.
EJ: Well, of all the people that I was really not looking forward to dealing with, Mr. Merkel was at the top of my list. When I called him, it would appear that some very savy person at DiMera enterprises had made a rather large contribution to his pet charity.
Sami: [Laughs] Well, he does go on and on about how important the historical renovations are in his hometown.
EJ: And you remembered?
Sami: I was actually trying really hard not to fall asleep.
EJ: He was very impressed with your knowledge of architecture.
EJ: I had no idea that you had an interest.
Sami: Well, I think "interest" is a strong word. I mean, who are we kidding? But I remembered you one time talking about how had grown up in a queen Anne home and I remembered thinking that it was really cool that you had grown up in a queen's castle.
Sami: Yeah. So when I realized it was a building style, I was definitely embarrassed.
EJ: Well, to be fair, there are not many queen Anne houses in Salem.
Sami: It did prompt me to do a little more research.
Sami: I don't like being embarrassed.
Sami: EJ, there was a time when your opinion of me meant everything to me.
JJ: Oh, hey. You sang without warming up.
Eve: Yeah, I don't need you to make excuses for me, JJ, or feel sorry for me. All right? Look, I'm-- I'm sorry. But everything's-- everybody thinks that I'm nothing but a shallow, greedy so-and-so, but you know why I needed that money from your dad's estate, right?
JJ: Yeah, to pay for Paige's college.
Eve: Yes, which she will attend.
JJ: Yeah, and, you know, fix your vocal chords too.
Eve: JJ, singing for me-- it's the one thing that-- that made me feel grounded, in control, fulfilled. And I miss it. I miss it terribly.
JJ: Yeah. I'm sure-- no, I'm sure you do. I'm sorry.
Eve: You know, you don't know where that check is. I will--I will come back later. I--
JJ: Oh. Okay.
Eve: Um... things with your mother and I-- they're probably never gonna get better, but...hey, maybe things can be different with us.
Paige: You don't know anything about me and my mom.
Theresa: Well, I know all about eve. You know, she just--she wants to be taken care of, you know. She wants somebody else to fight her battles.
Paige: It's not true.
Theresa: So she didn't ask you to use your relationship with JJ in order to influence her lawsuit with Jennifer?
Paige: You know, you said you wanted to have this chat because you felt like a big sister. You can start acting like one any time now.
Theresa: Why else would I be doing this, Paige? You know, I'm trying to help you. And sooner or later, you're gonna realize that this is the best advice of your life.
Paige: Why should I listen to you?
Theresa: Because I know JJ better than... [Sighs] Just about anyone. 'Cause you know, you better keep stringing him along because, yeah, he's a lot of fun as long as he thinks there's a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
Paige: You know what? You're kind of disgusting and more than a little sad.
Theresa: Oh, honey. You're the one who's gonna be sad as soon as you give him what he wants. Because before you know it, he's gonna be hunting for a new pair of panties to nail to his wall.
Aiden: Will you please--
Hope: Just--I know--
Aiden: Let me--let me finish. Okay? Because I've been carrying this around for a while, and I feel like it's just time to get it out there... [Sighs] Stop putting on an act.
Hope: What act?
Aiden: I was a jerk trying to make you believe that I was dating your cousin Jennifer when I just wanted you to try to get the hint.
Hope: The hint? What are you talking about?
Aiden: You shouldn't be attracted to me.
Hope: Oh, my God, Aiden.
Aiden: But I was the one who felt it. I was the one that night after the gala who had all these feelings, that I just-- I didn't know what to do with.
Aiden: Trust me, it's--
Hope: You did?
Aiden: It's been a very long time since I've felt that way about anyone. And--
Aiden: I mean, who can blame me? I mean, you're beautiful, you're smart.
Hope: And married. I'm also married.
Aiden: Yes. That's what-- you're married. You are a married woman. You were unavailable, so I-- I thank God for that.
EJ: What is with you and that telephone? You've checked that every five minutes since you left the house. You checking for likes on your newsfeed?
Sami: EJ, you know me. The kids are at sleepaway camp. I'm paranoid, okay? I just don't want to miss a text or an email from a camp counselor saying something's happened.
EJ: I know, I know. I told Johnny to make sure he had a good time and not think about home. You're right, we're talking about the kids again. I would really like to talk about us.
Sami: Yeah. You're right. I'm sorry. I was doing the same thing. I just can't seem to put my phone down.
EJ: I understand. And I also--I have to say, I did promise Johnny.
Sami: What, that you wouldn't talk about him?
EJ: Um, yeah, you know.
EJ: I mean, it doesn't really matter.
Sami: Oh, what? It is a big deal. Now you have to tell me. Oh, don't make me twist your arm.
EJ: Fine. But you cannot say a word, okay?
Sami: Okay, okay. Show me. What?
Sami: What is it?
Johnny: Hi, daddy. Camp is great. Allie and Sydney got all homesick, but I put toads in their beds, and now they feel better. Don't tell mom, but I'm a little homesick too. But I made you an awesome pic at arts and crafts. And I learned how to shoot a bow and arrow. I have to go now. I miss you, daddy.
Sami: That's the sweetest thing I've ever seen.
EJ: Isn't it? I'm so proud of him for taking care of his sisters. And look, I-- I should've shared this with you. I just--I didn't want you to be upset that you didn't get one.
Sami: Thank you. But I did get one. Allie made me a video.
EJ: You did?
Sami: Yes, she did because she and Sydney were feeling homesick so they wanted to make a video for me.
EJ: So sweet.
Abigail: Well, I guess I should clean all this up before Sonny comes to rescue us.
Abigail: It's taking him a lot longer than I thought.
Ben: Yeah. Me too.
Abigail: Okay. Knowing him, he'll probably think that we've been working this whole time. I am so-- this is not my day.
Hope: Thank God I'm married?
Aiden: I told you that I can't be involved with anyone. You know, that was the truth. But when I started seeing you in a different light, I-- that was the last thing that I wanted to feel.
Hope: No, no, no. I understand.
Aiden: Okay, well, you know, I just wanted to acknowledge the elephant in the room. Hope, I...consider you a friend, and...I know you love your husband.
Hope: I do.
Hope: I do.
Hope: And I'm sorry.
Aiden: Why are you sorry?
Hope: For your--for your grief. Your-- I can see how much you miss your wife.
Aiden: Well, I didn't say that.
Daniel: You know, I don't mean to bad-mouth your aunt, but whatever she's selling you, you have got to get that right out of your mind. You have to know that she's jealous that you have your life together.
Paige: She pretends like she's not trashing JJ or me when she talks about us, but I'm not an idiot.
Daniel: Yeah, well, don't let her undermine what you got. Just trust what you know about JJ. Yeah? All right?
Daniel: Oh, look at that.
Daniel: And there he is. Oh, man.
Theresa: Hey, thanks for the photo album. Okay, so are you ready to hear the surveillance report on Paige and JJ?
Eve: You know, Theresa, I never should've asked you--
Theresa: Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no. You definitely should've. Found them on the moving truck together.
Eve: I know.
Theresa: Well, do you know that JJ was all over Paige teaching her how to do the horizontal mambo, if you catch my drift?
Theresa: Oh, yeah. And your daughter is a pretty fast learner too. How you doing in there, baby girl?
JJ: Whoa. Level 16? Man, I'm stuck on five.
Daniel: Oh, yeah. He'll show you all the tricks, huh?
JJ: I bet he will.
Daniel: If you guys want to grab a latte before I go...
Daniel: You're gonna be okay if I leave, huh?
Daniel: Yeah? I know you love Joanna, but she has an appointment. But you also love JJ and Paige too, right? Yeah.
JJ: Um, your mom stopped by the house.
Paige: 'Cause Theresa said something?
JJ: No, she actually came by to pick up the check. Do you think that Theresa said something to her?
Paige: Well, she promised she wouldn't, but I almost don't care if she does.
JJ: Why not?
Paige: Because it doesn't matter what my aunt or my mom or anyone else thinks of you. It only matters what I think.
JJ: Which is?
Paige: That. [Giggles]
Theresa: I told Paige that I wouldn't tell you, so you can't--
Eve: She asked you to lie to me? Okay, you know what, Theresa, that is it. JJ is done, he's history.
Theresa: Oh, eve, come on. Do you really think that Paige will listen to you if you tell her that she can't see him again? You know that's a surefire way to lose her.
Eve: You know, maybe I won't have to say a word.
Aiden: You've had a good marriage, hope, but... I did not. See, my wife and I--we-- we fought a lot. And it was hard, you know, and-- well, we didn't want to put chase through a divorce, so we stayed together. Maybe that was a mistake. I-I don't know. But then she died, and... I was left with chase and... regrets that I can never resolve.
Aiden: But most of all, I was left with the knowledge that I... I wasn't a good husband. I'm not a good person.
Hope: No, no, that's not true. Aiden, of course you are. Look at all the good you've done since you've come to Salem. For JJ, for saint Luke's, for--
Aiden: No, hope. I'm not wrong about this. You'll just have to take my word for it.
EJ: I'm sure you're gonna get a video from Johnny soon.
Sami: Oh, I had better. Are you kidding me?
EJ: Are they bothering you?
Sami: No. No, they're not. It's just a little annoying, but seriously, don't worry about it. I'm not worried, okay? I don't care what they think. They're obviously reading into it, but they can. Let 'em, I don't care.
EJ: I'm having a nice time, okay? And I'm not reading anything into this. I'm just taking it for what it is.
Sami: Good. So am I.
[Cell phone rings]
Sami: Sorry. It might be Johnny, so I have to check. [Laughs]
EJ: Go ahead.
Sami: Oh, my God.
