Episode #12374 ~ Sami makes a big move; EJ wants Abigail to cooperate; Clyde spies on Ben & Jordan; Brady threatens John.
Provided By Suzanne
Jordan: Did you hear that?
Rafe: I did. Yeah. Who's there?
Eric: Believe me, it's not easy, but I know that if people truly want to change, they can with time and effort, support from the right people.
Theresa: Is this the part where you tell me that I'm no good for Brady?
Eric: No, actually I was gonna ask and see if Brady was really good for you.
John: So this joint venture between titan and basic black-- I thought you suggested it because you wanted us to get closer.
Brady: It could happen.
John: Well, this requires that I operate out of Europe starting right now. And ending? God, you're trying to get rid of me.
Brady: That's right. I am.
Ben: Looks like your friend's husband is going to be in jail for a while.
EJ: You want a scoop?
Nicole: Yes. Okay, wait. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. This is Nicole walker on record with EJ DiMera who has currently been arrested for tax evasion. Mr. DiMera, do you have a statement?
EJ: Yes, I do. Go to hell. [Laughs]
Sami: I already promised you this.
Kate: I know what you promised, but the thing is, I don't trust you, not one little bit.
Sami: Well, sorry, Kate, but we don't have time for trust falls right now.
Kate: I'm not playing, Sami.
Sami: Kate, I'm the one who came to you with this deal. I made the offer.
Kate: I know you made me the offer, because you needed me, and I think this is fair compensation for my part.
Sami: For your part? What are you doing? You're accepting jewelry and lying to some guy on the phone. You think you're doing the heavy lifting?
Kate: I am double-crossing Stefano DiMera. I think we both know what I'm risking.
Sami: No more than me.
Sami: Oh, come on, Kate. This is just a scam.
Kate: Fine. Walk away then. But if you want revenge on EJ, that's the price.
Ben: I cannot believe this guy couldn't get bail. Don't he and his dad have juice all over town?
Abigail: I don't know. I don't know.
Ben: Hey, I'm sorry. I didn't, like, mean to upset you.
Abigail: You didn't. You didn't upset me. I don't really care what happens to EJ DiMera.
Nicole: You are still an arrogant, idiotic jackass. I could help you.
EJ: Over a cliff maybe.
Nicole: You need a favorable story in the press.
EJ: Mm, well, then maybe I should find a reporter.
Nicole: I am a reporter.
EJ: [Laughs] Excuse me. Sorry, I forgot. You know that expose you did on the waxing parlors in Salem? Fantastic. Changed my world view.
Nicole: Okay, oh--
EJ: Probably saved lives, I would imagine. So thank you, but I think I'm gonna wait for a reporter with a little bit more integrity, somebody from the national enquirer, that sort of place.
Nicole: Well, EJ, they're not here. No one's here but me, and if you keep it up, I might take it personally, in print.
EJ: Is that a threat?
Nicole: You need help.
EJ: Actually, no, I don't. This is just a minor inconvenience.
Nicole: You're in jail.
EJ: It's a misunderstanding. I'll be out of here in no time.
Nicole: Before a DiMera enterprises board meeting? That is today, isn't it? Can you at least confirm that?
EJ: Well, that's a matter of public record.
Nicole: And you're in here, clown. You're not worried about a board meeting when you're in lockup?
EJ: No, Samantha can handle it.
Nicole: Oh, well, that's genius. You're counting on Sami, the queen of screw-ups? Oh, you really are in big trouble, DiMera. [Laughs]
Sami: Fine, I will take my chances with the board by myself.
Kate: Fine. I'll still be there.
Sami: Oh, you're gonna vote against me now?
Kate: If need be.
Sami: Really? How are you gonna explain to Stefano that you undercut his beloved son in front of outsiders?
Kate: Well, you see, I would be voting to keep Stefano in charge. You would be leading the attack in a palace coup, and he will believe that. And guess why.
Sami: Those board members are on EJ's side.
Kate: Really? 'Cause you're not EJ. I know those men. They know my business reputation. You cannot win this alone.
Sami: I am the one who turned around countess w by myself.
Kate: Well, countess w is a tiny, little division of a large, complex multinational. Now, do you really think they're going to turn over the keys to all of that to you based on countess w? Well, that's okay. I mean, if you do, go ahead. Give it a try. I'll even give you a sporting chance. I won't show up. You think you can do this all alone? Be my guest. Just don't forget what they say about striking the king.
Eric: Theresa, you and Brady are good people. You just might not be good for each other.
Theresa: Even if we care about each other?
Eric: Sometimes that's not enough.
Theresa: If you're a person who will break bad every chance you get. Eric, do you think that Nicole is a good person?
Eric: I do, deep down.
Theresa: But when it comes to you, she can't do the right thing.
Eric: Apparently not.
Theresa: Come on, Eric. That's bull. I mean, seriously, you're one fish and a loaf away from being a freaking saint, and if someone can't do right by you or with you, then they're not a good person. And Nicole--I mean, she's gonna try everything--
Eric: Okay, that's enough. We're talking about you and Brady.
Theresa: Well, neither of us walk on water.
Eric: Nobody does, at least not lately. Theresa, I love my brother, but I think he could really hurt you or anyone else that he gets too close to.
Brady: Look, dad. It's a good deal, all right? It is. Both titan's and basic black's revenues would skyrocket. The profit margins--
John: I don't give a damn about the money. I just want my son back.
Brady: Well, that's not gonna happen, dad. Do you want to get real about this? The fact is, you and I were never really that solid, even at the best of times, and whatever father-son relationship we had went out the window with Kristen.
John: Because you let it. Didn't have to be that way.
Brady: Dad, don't. You'll only make it worse, man.
John: [Stammers] How do I make it worse?
Brady: Everything! I look at you, and I see Kristen, all right? And then all you do, whenever you see me, is you nag me. You nag me about Theresa, and you always try to control my life.
John: Okay, okay, okay, okay. You're right, you're right. I can back off.
Brady: How about--how about way off? How about Europe, man? Dad, I'm not trying to be cruel, but I-I can't be around you. I can't do it. I think if you want any kind of relationship with me, your son, you need to leave Salem and let me breathe. That is the only solution here.
John: Oh, the hell it is, and you're wrong. And I'm not going anywhere.
Rafe: Hey, Caroline.
Caroline: Glad to see you.
Rafe: Yeah, you too.
Caroline: Have you got a minute?
Rafe: Well, um, sure. Yeah, yeah, things have quieted down at the station. What's up?
Jordan: I'll be by the picnic table.
Caroline: No need to go. Roman got pulled off EJ's case.
Rafe: I heard.
Caroline: So I have no way of getting the inside scoop. I don't want any details. I just want to know if Sami and the kids are gonna see EJ go to prison.
Rafe: Right. Well, it's hard to say. I know the state wants to make a big splash with this case. They have a lot of evidence.
Caroline: I see. So you think...
Rafe: Well, I think that EJ could be in big trouble this time.
EJ: I survived marriage to you twice. This is nothing.
Nicole: You cannot be this stupid. You need a story.
EJ: No, you do desperately, it would appear.
Nicole: I have plenty of things that I can write about.
EJ: Tell you what, actually. I do have a story for you. It's about a priest who was violated in the most horrific way and a woman who sat on the truth while he lost his church and his vocation.
Nicole: Shut up.
EJ: [Laughs] I know it must be very hard for a woman of your particular appetite and reputation to get a man, but this is a little pathetic.
Nicole: Really? You're babbling.
EJ: I know what you're up to, Nikki.
Nicole: I told you what I'm up to.
EJ: I'm on to you.
Kate: You really are getting smarter.
Sami: Really? 'Cause I didn't see this coming.
Kate: Come on. Sami, you said it yourself. We're not pals.
Sami: Yeah, yeah, no kidding. But I did think we could get through this one deal before you pulled out the shiv again.
Kate: We will. We will. Don't pout.
Sami: God, I hate you.
Kate: But you see, that's why we were able to keep this all under wraps, because our hatred is so natural. It's visceral.
Sami: So true.
Kate: Mm, mm. No one suspects us. You need to keep your eye on the prize. If you want your pig of a husband to pay for sleeping with that hot, young thing, just keep that picture in your mind.
Sami: Yeah, yeah. You know what? I don't need visuals, okay?
Kate: It never gets easier. You need to know that. You'll get older, he'll get older, but that never-ending line of hot, young things will never end for him. Sami, I would've thought that you could have kept him satisfied just a little longer.
Sami: He did not sleep with Abigail because I wasn't satisfying him.
Sami: No, no, that is not okay. Seriously, Kate, you're pathetic. Your foul-minded thoughts--
Kate: Just knock it off, all right? You need me a hell of a lot more than I need you.
John: I kicked an addiction to pain meds, Brady, and I couldn't have done it without you, so please, let me return the favor.
Brady: I don't need the favor.
John: How can you say that? Not only are you drinking all the time, you're doing coke again. And don't even--don't even-- don't even start with me. It was so obvious how high you were the last time I was here.
Brady: Yeah, but you know what? I stopped.
John: So you admit that you're using. That proves it, son. Damn it, I can't leave you. I-I won't leave you.
Theresa: You really are the sweetest man alive.
Eric: We're talking about you.
Theresa: I know how to take care of myself.
Eric: Do you?
Theresa: What do you mean? The arrest, the drugs, the nightmare guys?
Eric: Pick any one.
Theresa: Well, would you believe that I went through it and it's all made me stronger? I mean, Eric, nobody takes advantage of me anymore.
Eric: Is that how it feels?
Theresa: Trust me. You know, I see them coming, and I get them first.
Eric: Is that a good thing?
Theresa: I'm kind of fuzzy on the whole good-bad thing. It just--it just is. I mean, like, I have to take care of myself. It's a dirty job, but somebody's got to do it. What?
Eric: If you were even as strong as you sound like you were, I wouldn't worry.
Theresa: You think that it's a front, and underneath, I'm all squishy and vulnerable.
Eric: I'll take it back. You're hard as nails, and you don't give a damn about who you hurt.
Theresa: Hey, that's not true, though. Look, I don't want to hurt people. I mean, at least I don't-- I don't try to. I just--
Eric: But if it happens?
Theresa: Well, I mean, come on, Eric. Look, I'm on my own, all right? And the bottom line is, if I don't take care of myself, nobody else will, so... hey, where'd you go?
Eric: Nowhere. You just--you sounded familiar.
Theresa: You mean I sounded like Nicole?
EJ: You ask me for an interview, threaten me with a bad story. I go to Samantha. She goes to you. You knock her back. She goes to Eric. Eric comes along, and he begs you.
Nicole: You are already jailhouse crazy.
EJ: It's just another desperate ploy to get back with Eric.
Nicole: I am not desperate or stupid.
EJ: You know, he's never gonna get back with you. There's a reason that you're alone, Nikki. There's a reason you will always be alone.
Nicole: You are a mean, vicious S.O.B.
Ben: You don't care that EJ's in jail?
Abigail: No. Does that make me sound heartless?
Ben: You dated his brother, right?
Abigail: So? That doesn't make EJ and me friends. I barely even know him.
Ben: Still, it's a shame about the kids.
Abigail: Yeah, it is. Those kids are so sweet. God, they probably have no idea what's going on, or, you know, maybe they just think that it's normal. Sami did go to jail last year. It's a long story. But Sami was innocent. She didn't deserve what she got.
Sami: I overreacted, but you're wrong about what happened with EJ and me.
Kate: Really? EJ didn't sleep with a nubile little Abigail?
Sami: Only after I kicked him out of my bed because of him lying about Kristen.
Kate: Okay, wait, so you kicked EJ DiMera out of your bed, and you're surprised that he went somewhere else? I take it back. You are not getting smarter.
Sami: He's a grown man. He could have chosen--
Kate: You need--you need to grow up. Men are only as faithful as their options, Sami.
Sami: What is that, from the hooker handbook?
Kate: A guy like EJ is always going to have somewhere to go.
Sami: Look, we were engaged. He was begging me daily to marry him, so, no, I didn't think that he would-- I mean, we were having problems, but because of the lie, because of-- it's not like our relationship was based on just sex, okay? What am I even doing? I'm not bonding with you right now.
Kate: Thank you.
Sami: You're supposed to be at Stefano's attorney, like, an hour ago.
Kate: I'm on my way. [Clears throat] Here you go.
Sami: Seriously? Join the 21st century, Kate.
Kate: That's what you just read printed on DiMera stationary. Before they call the vote, you will take that out. You will tell them that EJ gave it to you sealed and that he asked you to read it to the board. And try to act surprised. Cheer up, Sami. We're about to get everything we want.
Rafe: I don't suppose there's any way you can pry Sami away from that low-life criminal.
Caroline: Believe me, if I could, I would have years ago, but you know, Rafe. The heart wants what the heart wants.
Rafe: Yeah, yeah, even when the head knows it's wrong and crazy.
Caroline: Sometimes that's when it really digs in the deepest. Well, I got to get back to the pub.
Rafe: Right. Well, anytime.
Caroline: Okay, darling. Thank you. Okay. I'm sorry to have taken your time together.
Jordan: Oh, no, it's always nice to see you.
Caroline: Okay, thank you.
Rafe: See you.
Jordan: Was that hard to hear?
Rafe: What, that Sami's crazy about a low-life degenerate? Old news.
Jordan: So you're okay with it.
Rafe: Sami's gonna be there. She'll support him, stick by him. I get that. Hey, you should be glad, 'cause that means whatever it is you have to tell me, I'm gonna be there for you. It's not gonna change anything.
Rafe: But now I'm late. I got to run.
Jordan: It's okay, go.
Rafe: But I do--I promise you, I really do want to hear what you have to tell me.
Jordan: And you will. I'm gonna be waiting for you after your shift tonight.
Rafe: Oh, all right. Okay. Bye.
Eric: Nicole's had a rough road. She's always done what it takes to survive. Sometimes she'd look back and regret it, but she couldn't have done anything differently.
Theresa: Do you think that's why she lied to you?
Eric: That's part of it, but the truth is, I didn't give her a chance to even tell me anything. She came back with evidence to clear my name, but I wouldn't let her put in a word edgewise. I told her I loved her, and I decided to leave the priesthood.
Theresa: Whoa. [Stammers] Not that that's a reason for her to lie to you ever--
Eric: Yeah, but you understand why she did.
Theresa: And so do you. And, you know, it sounds like maybe you could even forgive her.
Eric: I have to go.
Brady: You don't even think about my life. You don't know what I'm doing. All you have are these pronouncements and judgments. Dad, you're not the solution. You're creating the problem.
John: I see. I'm the reason that you're using. You couldn't be more wrong, son. Let's get some help.
Brady: Hey! Get--get off me, or I swear to God, you'll be sorry.
EJ: Do you honestly think that I would help you go after Eric, Samantha's beloved brother, after everything you've done to him, after all he's suffered?
Nicole: Let's talk about that, shall we? I can't believe you skated on that one. Maybe I should write about it.
EJ: Oh, well, now I really want to open up to you. [Laughs] You really never get any better at this, do you? No. Dear. I hear you've alienated Dr. Jonas. I'm sure Rafe's not far behind, as is every man who's ever protected you.
Nicole: Why are you being such a creep to me?
EJ: You really don't understand, do you? Let me try and explain it in slightly more simple terms, my dear. Eric is Samantha's brother. She loves him. She cares about him. Samantha and I are together. That means I care about Eric too, and you, to Eric, are poison.
Nicole: You don't know a thing about us.
EJ: Oh, is it true love, is it? Huh? The kind of love that never breaks.
Nicole: Go to hell. Oh, wait, you already did when you married Sami. You know what? EJ, you're right. I can't help you. No one can help you.
EJ: So I take we're not gonna be getting a wedding gift then.
Nicole: Actually I couldn't be happier with your God-awful union with that evil witch. You two deserve each other. You really deserve each other, and I am going to take great joy in watching you two make each other miserable for the rest of your lives. And you know what? Why don't you put me down for a set of butcher knives?
Shin: Today, ms. Roberts and Mrs. DiMera are the designated proxies for Stefano and EJ DiMera, respectively, and for the record, I would like to state that this is quite a disappointment.
Kate: We understand.
Shin: The fact that one DiMera is absent because he couldn't make bail on tax evasion charges and the other is avoiding an arrest warrant is hardly reassuring.
Sami: And of course we understand.
Kate: Jessica, I notice you're taking notes. Are you recording this meeting as well?
Jessica: Yes, ma'am.
Kate: Ah, good. I know EJ and Stefano will want to hear what you all have to say. You can tell so much from the tone and nuance of a voice. I don't think seeing your words on paper would properly convey what you're really trying to say, Mr. Shin.
Caroline: Oh, Eric.
Caroline: Can I get you something?
Eric: No, I'm fine. Let me help you.
Caroline: Oh, that's all right. Have you--have you heard from the bishop yet?
Eric: Not yet. They're looking over all the new evidence.
Caroline: I see. Well, you think you'll be back in the church soon?
Eric: I think there's enough evidence to clear my name, but whether or not I can be a priest again...
Caroline: I heard that Nicole stepped up for you.
Eric: Yes, she did.
Caroline: You do know why she stepped up for you, don't you?
Eric: I think so.
Caroline: Well, is there a chance that you two will get back together?
Theresa: Hey, how did you get in here?
Brady: Hey, you're home. I have my ways. What is going on with your a/c?
Theresa: Oh, yeah. It's broken. Seriously sick of this dump.
Brady: Yeah, well, it has some redeeming qualities, though.
Theresa: Such as?
Brady: Such as it's a great excuse to get out of these clothes.
Theresa: Oh, yeah? I don't need an excuse.
Ben: With any luck, this tax evasion charge will put the guy behind bars.
Abigail: Yeah, I don't think that will last for long.
Ben: Yeah, well, I'll take what I can get.
Abigail: You always had a bad feeling about EJ, didn't you?
Ben: I just don't like that you're involved with him.
Abigail: I'm not involved with EJ.
Ed: Mr. DiMera, I'm sorry about the breakfast. The kitchen never heard of steel-cut oat--
EJ: No, no, no, that doesn't matter. Look, I need to see someone quietly.
Shin: Please don't misunderstand. I'm only concerned with the well-being of both Stefano and EJ. Is there anything we can do to help?
Sami: Oh, thank you, but no. My husband will handle it. It's just unfortunate timing.
Gordon: That it is. We have major deals pending.
Shin: Deals that will have a major impact on our financial future.
Merkel: And even the appearance of the slightest impropriety from the top ranks could kill any number of those deals.
Kate: Yes, we're well aware. In fact, Stefano and EJ share your concern. Stefano actually asked me to read you a letter on their behalf. "To the board of directors, I regret that both my son and I find ourselves in circumstances at the moment that could cast a shadow over DiMera enterprises at this critical time. Rest assured that this business will always have the full attention of both Elvis and myself, but for now, given her excellent work over the past two years, not to mention her unflagging devotion, loyalty, and commitment to all things DiMera, I hereby nominate my daughter-in-law Samantha Brady-DiMera as CEO of DiMera Enterprises.
Brady: Look out.
Theresa: You are just full of good ideas, Brady.
Brady: Doesn't that feel good?
Brady: I have a good idea once in a while.
Theresa: So how'd it go with your dad?
Brady: Oh, God, my dad. It's a work in progress, but tell you what. I don't want that guy taking one more second of my time away from you. I think we should stay here all day.
Theresa: Sounds good to me.
Brady: You got any coke?
Theresa: Are you sure that's what you want to do?
Eric: I think the best thing for Nicole and me is to keep our distance for now.
Caroline: I'm being nosy.
Eric: I did not say that.
Care: And I thought you were the happiest I've ever seen you when you were in the church. And I've watched you and Nicole for quite a long time, and it seems to me that girl does something to your head.
Eric: Grandma, I'm just-- I'm not making any rash decisions.
Caroline: Good. You need room.
Ben: Look, I know you don't know EJ that well, but--
Abigail: Then what? Why would you--why would you ask me that? Why would you imply that I was involved with him?
Ben: Because you were in their wedding. Maybe the IRS thought you were, like, their best friend or something. That's all I meant. Hey, I didn't mean to upset you.
Abigail: No, it's okay, and you're right. Listen, if they come and ask me questions, I'll just answer them, because I don't know anything that could help them. And I'm sorry that I snapped at you like that. I'm just--you know, I'm really behind with work because of the wedding, and I'm just feeling really stressed out.
Ben: Well, I'll let you get back to it.
Abigail: Ben, I had a lot of fun with you on the fourth of July.
Ben: Me too.
Abigail: I-- I like spending time with you.
Ben: Same here.
[Cell phone rings]
Abigail: Hello, this is Abigail Deveraux.
Rafe: Hernandez. Yeah, okay. Pulling it up now. Is it in the attachment? Okay. Yeah, I'm sitting. Holy-- I don't believe this.
Gordon: Mrs. DiMera, you've done an admirable job running countess Wilhelmina.
Sami: Thank you very much, Mr. Gordon.
Gordon: But CEO of the entire company? I just--honestly, I'm not sure you're qualified.
Sami: Well, my father-in-law honestly thinks otherwise.
Shin: But Mr. DiMera cannot make this decision on his own. The other members must vote their approval.
Sami: And so they will.
Valdez: I wouldn't be so quick to assume, Mrs. DiMera. I mean, just because you turned a profit with your little makeup company doesn't mean you're fit to run the entire corporation. After all, what woman can't sell lipstick?
Sami: Mr. Valdez, my little makeup company has turned a higher margin of profit than any other division at DiMera, including those run by the esteemed board members here today, and for the last several months, I have been working hand in hand with my husband on every major matter at DiMera. Therefore, I am brought up to speed on every aspect of the business. And actually, now that I think about it, your division, Mr. Valdez, has been underperforming for the last three quarters. Is that right? Luckily for you, I have come up with a solution that does not involved your swelled head rolling. So, gentlemen, if we can all get past your antediluvian disrespect and contempt for women, are there any other objections?
Ben: Sorry. Abigail was here. It's weird she didn't say good-bye. But what's up? You tell Rafe?
Jordan: Not yet, only because he had to go to work, and I'm seeing him as soon as he gets off work. I'm gonna tell him everything.
Jordan: If you're sure.
Ben: You know I am.
Ben: You're scared.
Jordan: Of course. But I think this is it. This is finally our chance to be free from our past.
Eric: I'll see you later, grandma.
Brady: We need an adventure, Donovan.
Theresa: Oh, yeah, well, we could fix my a/C. Hey, that would be good times.
Brady: Why don't we replace your a/c?
Theresa: It kind of comes with the apartment.
Brady: Then we'll replace your apartment. That's what we need. Oh, my God, we need a change of scenery.
Brady: No, no. I'm not gonna say anything more. It's gonna be a surprise.
Theresa: What will be a surprise?
Brady: I got an idea. Okay, I'm gonna plan the party. You get the favors.
Brady: A couple grams will do it.
Theresa: Wow, that's a long party.
Brady: That's my favorite kind. I only have one question for you: Are you in, or are you out? Hmm?
Theresa: Oh, yeah, I'm in. Okay.
Brady: Yes, all right. Get ready. We're gonna have fun.
Abigail: You summoned me? What do you want, EJ?
EJ: To warn you. Given the charges against me, the reporters are gonna start digging. You might be contacted. I need to know that I can count on your discretion.
Abigail: You want me to lie for you. No, no, I'm sorry, EJ. No, not anymore.
Rafe: Someone's definitely trying to take down EJ and the old man. Yup. Well, if Stefano ever sets foot in town, I've got a warrant with his name on it. Yeah. Okay, well, let me know what you find out. Definitely want to figure out who sent this. Okay. Well, definitely an inside job. The question is, who has the stones to betray the DiMeras?
Shin: Ms. Roberts, would you like to make a motion?
Kate: Well, if there's no further business. No further business before we vote?
Shin: It seems not.
Rice: May I do the honors? I hereby move to appoint Samantha DiMera as new CEO of DiMera Enterprises.
