Caroline: Roman caught me and said that you wanted to see me.

Eric: Yeah, that's right. Please.

Caroline: Sounds important.

Eric: It is. [Chuckles] I'm trying to tell everyone in the family before it goes public. I'm gonna be leaving the priesthood.

Caroline: [Sighs]

Marlena: I'm sorry. There are just some more questions I have about your story.

Nicole: It's not a story, Marlena. It's what happened.

Marlena: I'm trying to understand exactly what was--

Nicole: No, you're not trying to understand. You're trying to look for someone to blame.

Marlena: No, no. I don't blame you. The fact is, my son is leaving his vocation. He loved being a priest.

Nicole: I know.

Marlena: And now he--

Sami: Eric... is doing what?

Abigail: We can be careful.

Theresa: You know, I like you when you drink. I like you a lot.

Brady: I like you when you drink too.

JJ: Yeah, yeah, so I'm just gonna get some breakfast, um, and then I'll be home after school. Okay.

[Knock at door]

Daniel: What are you doing here?

Jennifer: I had to see you. I couldn't stay away.

Eric: I know. I know it seems like it came out of the blue.

Caroline: Well, did they make you leave?

Eric: No. It's my choice... my terms. You know, I thought about it, prayed about it, and I know it's right. I hope you can be happy for me.

Marlena: Look, Eric wanted to tell you himself.

Sami: But he is leaving the church?

Marlena: No. No, no, he's... he's leaving the priesthood.

Sami: They asked him to resign?

Marlena: No, they did not. He came to the decision all by himself.

Sami: No, he didn't. This is all your doing, isn't it?

EJ: This is what you want, isn't it?

Abigail: Yes.

EJ: Good, because this is how it's gonna have to be.

Theresa: Yeah, I don't think I get scotch.

Brady: W-w-w-w-whoa. If you don't like the drink, we'll get you something else, but have a seat. I'm not gonna let anybody spoil your day.

Daniel: I don't know what you think. Look, this is not a good idea.

Jennifer: You don't know--

Daniel: No, I know the last time you were here, it was very awkward, and you left angry, and... there is just no reason to repeat--

Jennifer: But there is a reason, because I understand now. For the first time in months, I-I finally, finally understand what you were trying to say and what you were trying to do.

Daniel: Okay, there is nothing to understand, Jen--

Jennifer: No, please listen. We're not gonna go round and round again, I promise you, okay? I-I should have known before. If I would have just listened and watched, I would have seen these signals. It would have been so obvious to me, Daniel.

Daniel: Jennifer, I don't see any point in--

Jennifer: Just let me in. Let me in, and I will tell you. Daniel, please, can I come in? [Sighs] I know. I know everything.

[Both grunt]

EJ: Oh, Abigail, we can do it here today, and then next time, by the loading dock.

Abigail: What?

EJ: Yeah.

Abigail: Uh...

EJ: There's this corner right under the ramp. Nobody can see us. It's wonderful.

Abigail: Wait. Um...

EJ: You know where I'd like to do it? I'd like to do it in the hospital. That'll be so much fun-- your supply closet.

Abigail: Please, EJ, I--

EJ: Or by the pub. In the alley behind the pub-- how would you like that, huh? It would be so good. We'd be able to hear people inside. Can you imagine? Your family in there just behind the walls. Their precious little daughter just a few feet away, up against the wall.

Abigail: EJ, stop!

Sami: This reeks of you, Nicole. What did you do to Eric?

Nicole: Okay, wait a minute. I can almost take it from her. But you? No.

Sami: I don't get to care about my brother?

Nicole: Well, sure you do, but I wish someone could actually believe that Eric can make a decision for himself.

Sami: He had decided. He was doing everything he could to clear his name so he could stay a priest. So what changed?

Nicole: Well, let's see. He thought about it and changed his mind.

Sami: What really happened?

Marlena: I don't know.

Nicole: What do you mean you don't know? He stood there right in front of you, and he told you.

Sami: You sabotaged the interview, didn't you?

Nicole: Oh, yeah, that's what I did.

Sami: That's why it never aired. You didn't want him to stay a priest.

Nicole: That is not true.

Sami: I'm gonna find out what you did and undo it, you witch.

Nicole: Yeah, you want to know what I did?

Sami: Oh, like you'd be honest about it.

Marlena: No, Sami, the truth is she did everything she--

Sami: No, I got this, Mom. She has been a nightmare for Eric since we were teenagers. You broke his heart, and you wrecked his life.

Nicole: How long have you been practicing that speech, Sami?

Sami: Finally, finally, he managed to pull himself together. He managed to find a true passion for something good and decent, which obviously you would know nothing about. I get that. But you couldn't just let it go, could you? The second he came back to town, when you had to be all over him with your claws out--

Eric: Hey! Hey! Hey!

[Overlapping arguing]

Eric: Knock it off!

Sami: If she has hurt you, Eric, I swear--

Eric: Okay, okay, just leave Nicole alone.

Sami: I just don't understand why you would quit.

Eric: I'll explain it all. Come on.

Nicole: Thanks for jumping in there, Mar.

Marlena: Don't call me "Mar."

Brady: What's up with that-- you and JJ?

Theresa: He's a delinquent, okay, and a little thug, to boot. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh.

Brady: No, no, no, don't be sorry. I'm not gonna argue with you.

Theresa: Really?

Brady: Really. Why don't you like him? Oh, oh, wait. Is he one of those enemies that you were talking about that you wanted to completely destroy?

Theresa: No, he's not worth it at all.

Brady: Oh, okay. So somebody connected to JJ, then?

Theresa: No--I hate 20 questions.

Brady: [Laughs] See, now I got to--I got to find out now.

Theresa: Look, there's nothing to tell.

Brady: Well, then I'm just gonna have to ask him myself.

Jennifer: I know what happened the night that Theresa OD'd.

Daniel: Look, uh...

Jennifer: JJ was there.

Daniel: Why would you think that?

Jennifer: He told me, Daniel. He told me that he called you for help. And without questioning, despite the fact that my son has treated you so horribly and disrespectfully, you immediately went over there to help him save Theresa's life. And you did that to protect my son, to protect me. I am not surprised that you responded to JJ's plea to go over there and help save Theresa, but you did it to keep my son out of prison.

Daniel: Okay, I don't--

Jennifer: Yes, you did, and you don't have to lie about it anymore. You don't.

Daniel: JJ, uh, promised he wouldn't tell you.

Jennifer: Yeah, but he got tired of seeing me think the worst about you, Daniel.

Daniel: Well, it was better than the alternative.

Jennifer: No, it wasn't, and we need to talk about that-- why you insisted on doing this on your own. But what I do know... is that your heart was with me, and it was for me, and you did this for my son. And there is no greater love that you could show me.

Daniel: Well, your son-- he doesn't, uh... he doesn't belong in prison... and I couldn't do that to him.

Jennifer: Or me.

Daniel: Or you.

Jennifer: Right.

Daniel: I knew you couldn't go on without your son... and I wouldn't have been able to live with myself... if I haven't done everything I could to protect him... 'cause your being okay... it meant more to me than anything. It still... it still does.

EJ: Shh. Come on. I thought this is what you wanted, huh?

Abigail: Not--not like-- not like this, not here on this--

EJ: What, on the conference table? What? Do you know what is happening here later? There's a big meeting. The mayor's gonna be sitting here. The head of the Salem business alliance is gonna be sitting here. I'll be sitting here, looking over there, thinking about what happened just a few moments ago.

Abigail: It's not happening like this. That's--I'm not--

EJ: How is it--did you expect this whole thing to happen, Abigail?

Abigail: I don't know.

EJ: You want us to keep seeing one another, right? I mean, we don't want Samantha to find out. Do you want us to have an affair?

Abigail: I want to be with you. I just don't want--

EJ: What exactly do you think an affair looks like?

Sami: I mean, you have never seen Nicole for who she really is. You are too good for her. You always have been, all right? And--and--and as long as you were a priest, I thought you were safe, but I mean--

Eric: Sami, you don't know.

Sami: This is when you want a sister like me, because I see a woman like Nicole coming from a mile away and--

Eric: Sami, if you say one more word about Nicole, I am out of here.

Sami: Whoa.

Eric: You don't even understand what happened. I am going to explain to you how I made my decision.

Sami: You decided?

Eric: Yes, I did.

Sami: I'm sure she made it seem that way, Eric, but--

Eric: Sami, would you just be... be quiet? Please, just listen.

Eric: [Sighs]

Marlena: The truth is that I do owe you an apology.

Nicole: Oh, boy. I don't know if I can handle two of those from you in one day.

Marlena: It's okay. You've earned it.

Nicole: [Scoffs]

Marlena: Sami should never have gone after you that way, and you didn't deserve that. And we both know that when Sami gets on a roll, it's sometimes hard to stop her. But Eric will talk to her. He will explain what happened, and then I'm sure that-- I'm sure she will apologize to you.

Both: No.

Marlena: But the thing is, we were all taken by surprise, you know? And maybe we didn't act as graciously as we should have, but we were so focused on Eric being cleared, and now it all seems so irrelevant.

Nicole: No, it's not irrelevant, 'cause now we know. Daniel and I heard that creepy Dr. Chyka confess.

Marlena: I wish that were hard proof.

Nicole: So do I.

Marlena: I wish there were some real evidence.

Nicole: Well, um, I don't know. Maybe the police will find something now that they know where to look, you know.

Marlena: But the more help they have, the easier that will be to do.

Nicole: We gave a full statement, all right?

Marlena: Yeah, but you kept saying, "Don't ask." Remember, you said, "Don't ask about the confession. Don't ask how we got it. Don't ask this, don't ask that."

Nicole: Okay, all right, well, I just didn't think the answers would help.

Marlena: Yeah, but what do you know? Look, the more you talk about it, the more uncomfortable you feel, the more uncomfortable you seem.

Nicole: I'm not uncomfortable.

Marlena: Okay, well, then maybe you seem... guilty.

Nicole: Oh...

Marlena: Are you feeling a little guilty?

Nicole: Don't you--uh-uh. Don't you try to shrink me.

JJ: Do you have a minute? Alone?

Brady: Uh, I don't think so.

Theresa: Look, it's okay. Just get us another round.

Brady: Sure.

JJ: Figures.

Theresa: What?

JJ: You and Brady.

Theresa: What do you want, junior?

JJ: We both need to dial it back a bit. All right, we can burn each other if we want to, but who wants that, right? Are you down with that?

Theresa: What if I'm not?

JJ: Then you can be afraid every frickin' time you see me, 'cause I am done being scared of you.

Jennifer: I don't want you to be upset with JJ for him telling me all of this.

Daniel: Oh, no, I won't. I won't. He's juggling a lot of guilt. He's--he's, uh, turning things around, and he's trying to come clean in every way. But the thing is, he just-- well, not just him, but this whole thing is--is a big mess still.

Jennifer: Right, but I won't make it worse. Is that what you thought? Did you think that I would come down so hard on him that you needed to protect him from me?

Daniel: No, no, no, but you insisted on doing this alone, and I didn't want you to be swamped and scared and--

Jennifer: I know. You were afraid that I would make it worse, and... I hate to say that I might have. [Chuckles] I'm glad that my son has you in his corner.

Daniel: Yeah, he's a--he's a good kid. I mean, I didn't know that at first, but he--

Jennifer: He didn't make it easy, did he?

Daniel: [Laughs] No. He didn't. But in the last few months, I've seen what he's made of. I may have been here, but he's carried a lot on his own. He's--he's proved to himself that he can do this by sheer force of will, because... he wants to be the son that you deserve.

Jennifer: He will always be that. You care about him.

Daniel: Yeah.

Jennifer: You have no idea how much that means to me.

Daniel: Well, I do now... now that I have Parker, 'cause there is nothing I want more than for him to be happy and safe, like I want you and your kids to be happy... and safe.

Jennifer: I'm lucky to know you, Daniel Jonas.

Daniel: You need to go... right now.

Jennifer: You want me to leave?

Daniel: We need to keep your son safe. We need to hold the line here.

Jennifer: Against what... Theresa? I know about the video of JJ the night that she OD'd. She wants to blackmail him with it. I know. But JJ told me that that's all been neutralized.

Daniel: Well, I know he thinks so. And maybe Theresa's backed off for now...

Jennifer: But?

Daniel: [Scoffs, sighs] But that woman is a piece of work. I actually thought she would have learned something after nearly dying, but she seems to get worse and worse.

Jennifer: How?

Daniel: She's obsessed with you, Jenn. I mean, that's the only reason she came on to me. It's all about hurting you. If she sees us together, it-- [Sighs]

Jennifer: So what? You think she's willing to risk her freedom? JJ told me that what they have on each other just makes it a standoff.

Daniel: Well, if Theresa were rational, then, yeah, maybe it would be.

Jennifer: You really think she would take that chance?

Daniel: It is definitely in her. She could wreck my career, and worse, she could put JJ in prison, and that would kill you. And I would never... let that happen.

Theresa: Why are you being so snarky? I was just sitting here.

JJ: Yeah, right. Sitting here foaming at the mouth.

Theresa: God.

Brady: [Sighs] There you go. How's the park these days?

JJ: I wouldn't know.

Brady: Now, that's the right answer to give the judge... since he's the only guy in town who's clueless about before.

JJ: That's the only person in town you didn't tell.

Brady: Your mommy needed to know. There's only one reason why you had been in that part of the park. You know that.

JJ: Yeah, and you would know.

Brady: It's a good thing you didn't get a chance to test-drive that attitude in prison, JJ, 'cause some guy would have made you his afternoon snack on day one. You are a lucky kid.

JJ: Yeah, I know.

Brady: Do you? Your mother deserves better.

JJ: Yeah, she does, and I'm going to see that she gets it. Well, you two enjoy your breakfast... lunch.

Theresa: That's cute.

Brady: Brunch. [Sighs] What?

Theresa: I like the way you handled him.

Marlena: Why do I upset you so?

Nicole: You don't upset me.

Marlena: Really? What are you afraid of?

Nicole: [Scoffs] Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Yes. These are the files. I am not afraid of anything... especially not you.

Marlena: But you're fine talking to Roman, but not to me. We're both Eric's parents. We both care about him.

Nicole: So do I. And why is it so hard for all of you to believe me? All I want is for Eric to be happy.

Eric: When I went to the monastery, I didn't know how it would come out. But I met a great man... Brother Timothy. He listened, made a lot of good points.

Sami: Did he try to pressure you into resigning?

Eric: No, no, not at all. He was just making sure I knew all my options. No one in the church tried to force me out.

Sami: What was with the rush?

Eric: Because I didn't want to live in limbo. I prayed a lot about it, Sami. I know this is God's will for me.

Sami: Are you really sure it's not Nicole's will for you?

Eric: You got to get off of that.

Sami: Why? I mean, come on, Eric. You are--were a priest, but you're not blind. You have seen the way Nicole looks at you. She has never even--

Eric: Okay, you don't know what Nicole did for me.

Sami: I know what she'd like to do for-- okay. Tell me.

Eric: Nicole and Daniel-- they found the doctor Kristen hired to drug me.

Sami: What?

Eric: Yeah, they--they tracked him down, and they got a confession out of him.

Sami: Well, that means they have what they need to clear your name. Eric--

Eric: Listen, they had a tape, but he grabbed it and escaped.

Sami: Well, then there must be some other proof. There must--

Eric: Yeah, well, they can't find it.

Sami: But you know who he is.

Eric: Yeah, his name is Dr. Jakub Chyka, all right? He's the guy who tried to kill me and Nicole. He's a doctor for hire, and he was on the DiMera payroll.

Sami: Do Daniel and Nicole-- I mean, did he just tell them that?

Eric: He admitted that he worked for Kristen.

Sami: Did he say anything else about--about anything?

Eric: No, he--he got away before they got more details. The point is, is that Daniel and Nicole--they risked their lives trying to help me. If they had gotten him, we would have had Kristen dead to rights and anybody... anybody who might have helped her.

Abigail: All you're doing is purposely talking just about the sex to make it sound cheap and degrading. This was never just about sex for either one of us, EJ, and you know that.

EJ: That's true. It wasn't. It's because I was a selfish idiot, Abigail. Samantha had good reason to be upset with me and my family... but she didn't leave. She stayed.

Abigail: She kicked you out of her bed!

EJ: Not because she didn't want me to be in her bed. It's because when the two of us are together, it is so intense that it is literally blinding.

Abigail: [Sighs] I don't want to hear this.

EJ: That's why she wouldn't let me in right away, Abigail. It's because when we're together... everything else just falls away.

Abigail: Why are you doing this? Are you trying to hurt me?

EJ: I'm trying to explain.

Abigail: No two humans on this earth make love like you and Sami do. I get it. And now you just want to pretend like I don't exist, like nothing ever happened between us.

EJ: Look, you were right, Abigail. What happened between the two of us was a lot more than sex. Samantha walked away. I was lost, and... and you saw me. And that felt wonderful. And I am--I was... grateful for that.

Abigail: Oh, God, EJ, don't. If you're gonna thank me, I will throw something out that window. It wasn't some service that I--

EJ: I certainly didn't mean to imply that it was.

Abigail: Yes, you did! Having sex with me got you through a rough spot with Sami, and now that you guys are fine, you want to just make me disappear. It's so disgusting to you that--

EJ: Disgusting? For God's sake, if anyone was disgusting, Abigail, it was me! I cheated on the woman who I love more than my own life! This doesn't happen again... ever!

Brady: What are you doing?

Theresa: I can pay.

Brady: Didn't you hear? I'm rich.

Theresa: Okay. I'll get the first round next time.

Brady: Next time.

Theresa: [Chuckles] Bye, Brady.

Brady: See ya. Whew. Mm... I will have one more. I want to support the family business. What?

Sonny: Are you driving?

Brady: [Sighs]

Jennifer: Daniel, no. I can take care of myself.

Daniel: Okay, well, yeah, but you cannot stop Theresa.

Jennifer: No, maybe not, but I am not gonna let her have power over me. I'm not gonna go wave a red flag in her face, but I promised JJ that I wouldn't go after her, and I'm not gonna do that. I know how to keep a secret. I know how to keep my mouth shut.

Daniel: Yeah, no, I know that, but you need--

Jennifer: You need to trust me on that. You really think that I would do anything to hurt your career?

Daniel: No, I do not, but--

Jennifer: Okay, then tell me, what is this? What is it? Is this some kind of protective reflex?

Daniel: I don't know. I really don't--

Jennifer: No, then you listen to me because I know what I know, and I know this. I am not gonna live in fear anymore.

EJ: Sorry.

Abigail: For what?

EJ: How you must be feeling right now.

Abigail: And how's that, hmm? Crushed that we won't be groping at each other behind the alleyway at the pub? That was a nice touch.

EJ: You deserve more than--

Abigail: Don't tell me what I deserve! Don't.

EJ: You're beautiful.

Abigail: Stop! [Sighs] You are in no position... to say anything to me right now. If I were to tell Sami about us...

EJ: It would ruin my life... and hers... the lives of the children. [Sighs] It would hurt you too, you know? You'd be miserable... scorched earth. No one would be happy, Abigail. Of course, that is your choice. Either way... I'm not doing this anymore. I wish you the best.

[Door closes]

Abigail: [Crying]

Marlena: Nicole... is it true? You really have no investment in how Eric lives his life?

Nicole: No, no. I fought to help him stay a priest.

Marlena: I hope that's true, because if it's not and Sami is right, she won't be the only one coming after you. This town will not be big enough for you to hide in. There would be no place--

Eric: Mom... what's going on?

Marlena: Nothing. Excuse me.

[Door opens, closes]

Eric: You okay?

Nicole: Sure.

Eric: I'm sorry.

Nicole: [Sighs] Don't apologize.

Eric: Do you want to hear the good news?

Nicole: [Chuckles] Yeah.

Eric: Well, Brady's already had it out with me, and I don't think there's anybody else in my family who's gonna come after you or accuse you or--

Nicole: Eric, I did something terrible.

Eric: What are you talking about? Don't let anyone get to you. I'm sorry.

Nicole: Don't apologize.

Eric: I shouldn't have left you with my mother. You know, she should be thanking you.

Nicole: Okay, you can't keep defending me. I don't deserve it.

[Footsteps approaching]

Nicole: Oh, great.

Theresa: Hi, kids.

Nicole: Just what I need. I'll call you later.

Eric: [Sighs]

Theresa: What was that all about?

Eric: Eh, the Bradys are giving her a hard time for no good reason.

Theresa: What? That never happens.

Eric: Actually, this kind of saves me from hunting you down.

Theresa: That sounds ominous.

Eric: No, it's-- I've made a decision, and I'm telling the family first. I've decided to leave the priesthood.

Theresa: Okay.

Eric: Thank you.

Theresa: What? It's your life. Do what you want.

Eric: I have.

Theresa: Is that why Nicole was being so bitchy?

Eric: I didn't realize you knew Nicole.

Theresa: Yeah, we met at Daniel's place once. I mean, talk about a total bitch--

Eric: Whoa, don't say a word, please.

Brady: [Sighs] You know what? I'm done.

Sonny: You want me to call you a cab?

Brady: No, no. It's a beautiful day. I'm gonna walk.

JJ: Mom? Hey, Abs, do you have a minute?

Abigail: Hi. Uh, no, I'm...

JJ: You're what? You look a little spaced.

Abigail: I am. Oh, I can't find my credit card. I'm such a mess lately.

JJ: Yeah, I know. So when are you gonna finally tell me what's going on with you?

[Door opens]

Sami: Oh! You are not gonna believe what I just heard!

EJ: What?

Sami: My brother... is no longer a priest.

EJ: Oh, I'm sorry. Did the church kick him out?

Sami: No, this is not the church's fault. This is about the people who live in this house. The DiMeras strike again.

Jennifer: [Groans] I just... I feel like ever since JJ came home, all... I have done is--is cower. I was so afraid that I was doing the wrong thing for him or not helping him enough, and that's exactly what I ended up doing. And... the worst thing that I did in all of this was give up you. It was the single stupidest thing I could have done. I caused you so much stress and so much worry, and I look back at how I treated you.

Daniel: Okay, I set that up.

Jennifer: No, but it amazes me how much you sacrificed. You let the entire hospital think the worst about you... and you sacrificed every good feeling that I had for you, Daniel.

Daniel: Well, that's the only way it would work.

Jennifer: No, but I thought that you hated me.

Daniel: And that was the worst part for me.

Jennifer: Right, but now it's over, you know? I mean, I just feel like-- I feel like we can just maybe go back and just... okay, I mean, you tell me, please.

Daniel: What?

Jennifer: I know how far apart we've been. The whole way over here, I was thinking about all the hateful things that I said to you. And they were awful, and they were so judgmental. And I wouldn't blame you if your feelings for me have changed.

Abigail: I told you before-- I'm just stressed. I have a lot going on at work, and I'm just--

JJ: Bull.

Abigail: Excuse me?

JJ: This has nothing to do with work. I know all about the older man you were seeing.

Sami: So there's my brother, right, telling me about the man who destroyed his life, the guy who worked for your sister, who probably worked for Stefano. He was a DiMera doctor for hire. They know that. And he's looking at me like, like--

EJ: I'm sorry.

Sami: No, wait. He--he was looking at me like his sister who loves him. I mean, if things were reversed, if he were in my place, I couldn't do that. I would have been all over him for being involved with this family, but--but Eric doesn't blame me.

EJ: Samantha, I really don't think it's fair--

Sami: I live here. I'm here under this roof with the same people who destroyed his reputation, who took away from him the thing he loved doing most in the world. It's high time the DiMeras paid, and I am going to see to it.

Brady: Hey, uh, did I leave my gloves here?

Sonny: Yep. Bet you it's a lot colder than you thought.

Brady: Yeah, it is cold out there. You want to tell me the truth about something?

Sonny: Sure.

Brady: Did you call Maggie or Victor about me?

Sonny: No, I didn't. Why do you think that?

Brady: Well, when I left here, someone was following me.

Sonny: Well, I didn't call anyone.

Eric: It's just that people are talking a lot of trash about Nicole, and you ought to be the one to know that you shouldn't listen to gossip. Nicole is a wonderful woman. And you know what? You could learn a lot from her journey, Theresa. If you ever get the chance, you'd be lucky to get to know her.

Nicole: Oh, God. I don't know what's worse-- Marlena looking at me like she knows or Eric thinking I'm some kind of hero. I don't know, but I got to make this right. Maybe I can. Maybe there's still a way I can fix this.

Jennifer: If that's where we are, I totally understand. If I hadn't pushed you away in the first place, we wouldn't be at this point. And I made it worse because I thought the worst about you... when you're really the best. So, if I killed it, if I killed us, then I am so, so sorry.
