EJ: I'll take a Scotch, double, neat.

Tad: Uh, bartender called in sick. Can I get you an apron? Oh, I'm just kidding. But I have had regulars request you since you filled in on New Year's, so, you know, if this corporate thing doesn't work out...

EJ: I'll keep that in mind.

[Cell phone rings]

EJ: [Sighs] Hello?

Sami: EJ, it's me.

EJ: Are you home?

Sami: No, there's been a major problem with the distributor here in Chicago. I'm gonna have to spend the night.

Nick: Abigail. [Laughs] Hey.

Abigail: Hi, hey.

Nick: We meet again.

Abigail: Yeah.

Nick: Uh, crazy. How are you? Do--do you have a minute now to grab a-a cup of coffee or something, catch up?

Abigail: Oh, uh, uh, well--

Nick: Wow, you seem really excited about that.

Abigail: No, I--

Nick: No, it was just--it was, like, the same earlier. It almost seems like you can't wait to get away from me.

Abigail: Nick, no, it's not that.

Rory: Just one hit, JJ, to help you relax.

Theresa: Oh, no--

Brady: Come on. We both know you don't want to be in the program anymore than I do.

Theresa: But I have to be.

Brady: I'm not gonna tell.

JJ: I don't need it.

Rory: But you want it, JJ.

JJ: It's not my thing anymore, man.

Brady: [Sighs] What's the matter? You don't trust me?

Maxine: I'm sorry, Dr. Jonas isn't in today. He was on the schedule, but he had to cancel his surgeries. Yes, I'll give him the message.

Jennifer: Maxine. I couldn't help overhearing. Is Daniel okay?

Maxine: As far as I know.

Jennifer: Then where is he?

Nicole: [Gasps] Look. That's gotta be Chyka's hideout. [Yelps] [Gasping] Oh, Daniel. You scared me.

Daniel: Shh, what, should I give you a megaphone so he knows that we're here?

Nicole: I'm sorry, I'm just excited.

Daniel: Yeah, I get that, but we're not gonna do anything to screw this up.

Nicole: No, we're not. Chyka's goin' down.

Chyka: Charles Jacobs. Yes, a one-way flight. Tonight is perfect. Excellent. Excellent, thank you very much.

Maxine: I got the impression Dr. Jonas was leaving town. Maybe he went to visit his son.

Jennifer: Is Parker okay?

Maxine: You know as much as I do. Now you--you could call and find out.

Jennifer: I deleted Daniel's contact information from my phone.

Maxine: Like you don't know it by heart. And if you don't, I have his number.

Jennifer: Well, thank you, Maxine, but Daniel's personal life is really not my business anymore.

Maxine: You know, Jennifer, you really can't have it both ways.

EJ: Samantha, you need to come home.

Sami: It's not my fault that this distributor's trying to jerk us around. I mean, you want me to do my job or not?

EJ: I'll send Cedric.

Sami: No way. This is my division, and I have to do my job, EJ. And believe me, I am not the one who left us at the mercy of these cutthroat bastards. You know, if Kristen had just--

EJ: I'm not discussing my sister with you. That is a conversation that's just gonna get us even deeper into the morass that we are already in.

Sami: Which morass would that be?

EJ: [Sighs] You didn't return any of Gabriella's text messages.

Sami: I did. I know that she and Kate are freaking out about Mr. Greetings.

EJ: Would you please stop calling him that name?

Sami: But you have it under control, don't you?

EJ: If Nick knows what you did--I'm not a miracle worker, darling. He holds all of the cards. Now we just have to wait until he makes his next move.

Sami: [Sighs]

Nick: When you saw me at the church, you and--and a lot of other people just--you looked like you'd seen a ghost.

Abigail: Like I said, Nick, I was just--I was surprised. Everybody was surprised.

Nick: Yeah, I just--I wanna make sure that nothing has changed between us, you know, after--after everything that happened with Gabi.

Abigail: What happened with Gabi?

Nick: Oh, you know what happened with Gabi. You heard me tell everybody at St. Luke's that--you know, that I arranged to get her a modeling job in New York, and-- and basically stalked her so that I could be with her and--and Ari. I bet that freaked you out.

Abigail: Yeah, it-- it did.

Nick: But I want you to know now that I'm aware that that was a huge mistake, and I'm--I'm getting help.

Abigail: Good, that-- that's really good, Nick.

Nick: Thanks. Yeah, I mean, it's just... [Sighs] I keep thinking about, if I'd just been straightforward with Gabi from the beginning, things would be so different now. For everyone. So...

Abigail: Well--

Nick: I'm gonna tell it like it is now, just like--like you always do.

Abigail: Well, I'm not so sure that that's a compliment.

Nick: Of course it is. It's a total compliment. You're all about honesty and integrity. My cousin. My role model.

Sami: This isn't a game of five-card stud, EJ. This is my life.

EJ: I'm well aware of that.

Sami: In case you haven't noticed, I'm not very good at sitting around and waiting for other people to make things happen, and neither are you.

EJ: No, I'm not.

Sami: You don't care if it's Nick we're talking about or this distributor who is trying to hold Countess "W" hostage.

EJ: Then come home.

Sami: I am trying. You just have to let me work.

EJ: All right, Samantha, you know, I really don't care what-- you do whatever it is that you feel that you have to do, okay? But when you get back home--

Sami: You can add your name to that list, EJ.

EJ: What list?

Sami: I don't need you dictating to me about my life.

EJ: Okay. Thought it was our life.

Sami: Throwing another ultimatum in my face?

EJ: That's not what I was trying to do.

Sami: Maybe I should remind you of the last thing you said to me before I left. You said, "things have to change one way or the other." If that's not an ultimatum, what was it?

EJ: It was supposed to be the start of a conversation, and one I do not wish to continue over the telephone. Thank you.

Sami: In other words, it's going to be your way, when you are ready? Good-bye, EJ.

JJ: Put that away, dude!

Rory: Well, I--if you don't want it, I was gonna just--

Bev: Okay, Rory, enough. Just--

Rory: I was just trying to help.

JJ: All right, the only thing that's gonna help is Theresa doing what we need her to do.

[Vehicle approaches]

JJ: All right, my Aunt Kayla just pulled up.

Bev: [Chuckles] Oh, great. She can't stand me.

Rory: Nobody can stand you.

Bev: Hey.

Rory: I mean, from JJ's family. It goes double for me.

JJ: All right, I can't handle another lecture right now about the quality of my friends. So could you guys--

Bev: Yeah.

Rory: We're out of here.

JJ: Okay. I'll text you when she's gone.

Bev: Okay, and we'll text you if we hear anything on the Theresa front.

JJ: Thanks.

[Doorbell rings]

JJ: [Sighs] Aunt Kayla, what's up?

Kayla: Uh--

JJ: My mom's at work.

Kayla: I know. I need to talk to you, actually.

JJ: About what?

Kayla: What are you doing with Theresa?

Brady: Mm.

Theresa: Mm.

Brady: Are you sure?

Theresa: Yep, I am.

Brady: Are you, afraid you'll--I'm gonna blow your cover as bad girl gone good? That people will think you're a negative influence on me?

Theresa: You know what? Everybody already knows that you're a train wreck, Brady. You don't need my help. Oh, and by the way, if I don't have any, it still counts as drinking alone.

Brady: That's all right. More for me. To train wrecks.

Theresa: Okay.

Brady: There you go. [Sighs] [Snickers] You are thorough. I'm gonna like you.

Theresa: You know what? I can't take any chances, okay? Look, I already OD'd, and I almost lost everything. [Sighs] And just because I'm not AA all the way doesn't mean that the whole thing's an act.

Brady: God, you--you-- you are--you're so full of... something. I-I don't know what it is.

Theresa: You said you wanted to talk about Daniel, so talk.

Daniel: No, no, no, no, no. Nicole, no. We don't know what we're gonna find in there.

Nicole: Oh, I do. We're gonna find out the truth.

Abigail: Nick, please, uh, don't act like I'm a role model. I've made plenty of mistakes in my life.

Nick: Oh, man, who hasn't? But, I mean, you'd never try to hurt someone, you know? Intentionally. And if you did, you'd own it. You know, you wouldn't try to make excuses or cover it up, anything like that.

Abigail: Well, you said that you wanted to catch up, so, uh, why don't you tell me what's going on with you?

Nick: Good news.

Abigail: Yeah?

Nick: Yeah, I got a--I got a lead on a job.

Abigail: Oh. That's great, Nick. So does that mean that you're-- you're staying in Salem, then?

Nick: Yeah, I am, and I'm hoping that means that we can spend a lot more time with each other, now that I'm back.

EJ: Cancel my lunch plans, please. Yeah. Ask Dan to meet me at the corporate gym in 20. Thank you.

Tad: Well, I guess you won't be needing a lunch menu. Big deal to close on the handball court?

EJ: No, actually, I'm working out with my trainer.

Tad: Oh. Well, even a mogul has gotta eat.

EJ: I lost my appetite.

Tad: Okay. Well, work off some steam, and, uh, come back and see us.

[Cell phone rings]

Sami: Hey. How bad's the counter-offer? They took the deal? Oh, my God, I thought we were gonna be going back and forth all night. That is incredible. It's-- no, no, don't tell EJ. I want to tell him myself. Yeah. I'm gonna surprise him in person.

JJ: Well, Aunt Kayla, what are you talking about?

Kayla: Roman told me that he saw you here with Theresa.

JJ: Oh, we were just--

Kayla: No, you don't--you don't need to explain. But, um--and I'm not-- I'm not gonna tell your mom.

JJ: Well, she just came over here to drop off a letter from work.

Kayla: Theresa can't be bothered to open an envelope off her desk. If she came over here with a special delivery, then she wanted something.

JJ: All right, well--well-- well, whatever it was, I mean, she didn't get it. I mean, she understands that I want nothing to do with her.

Kayla: All right. I believe you. But I just feel like there's something maybe you're not telling me.

JJ: No, I, um-- okay. You're right. There is something going on. And you might be the only one who can help me.

Brady: I'll tell you a lot about Daniel, but before we get started, you should know that you're probably wasting your time.

Theresa: You know what? You're the one who invited me in here, Brady, to talk about--

Brady: Mm.

Theresa: Oh, was that--was that just a ploy?

Brady: What do you mean, to spend time with you?

Theresa: Oh, why would anyone want to do that, right? You know, Daniel's attracted to me, as much as he might not want to admit at the moment.

Brady: Of course he is. Of course he is. Why wouldn't he be? I mean, he's a guy. You're a--

Theresa: A lady.

Brady: Yeah, you're a lady. You're an attractive lady, actually.

Theresa: Thank you, I think.

Brady: And Daniel's attracted to you. That's already been established. I mean, you two did sleep together on the night you... [Clicks tongue] OD'd, right?

Theresa: Your point is?

Brady: My point is Daniel has it bad for Jennifer. Still. You know, he doesn't want--

Theresa: Me? He doesn't want me?

Brady: He doesn't want anyone. Not right now. Just not now.

Theresa: You know what? I think I know how men think and--or don't think, as the case may be.

Brady: Yeah, I know what you mean. Theresa, you may know how men think, but you don't know Daniel like I do.

Theresa: Oh. So you can read his mind?

Brady: Don't have to. The night that you slept with Daniel, it broke Jennifer's heart. And even though they've given up on being a couple, there is no way in hell he's gonna do that to her again.

[Cell phone vibrates]

Nicole: Okay, so what do you see?

Daniel: Uh, not a damn thing. I'm not even sure he's in there.

Nicole: There's a car in the driveway. That's gotta be Chyka's. I mean, if we could just get closer, maybe we could--

Daniel: What, get shot? No, that is not gonna happen. Nicole, you better get that through your head. Can't just storm up there. There's gotta be a better way.

[Cell phone rings]

Chyka: Who gave you this number? Oh, yes, this is Charles Jacobs. Inclement weather? I'll just use another airline and connect-- a few hours? All right. I can live with that. Thank you.

Daniel: Okay, I know how badly you want to clear Eric's name, but we need to think this thing through, 'cause what we're doing is not only illegal--

Nicole: I told you, I don't care.

Daniel: We could be killed. Look at this setup. Nobody knows where we are. We're in the middle of nowhere. We don't have any training. No backup.

Nicole: What are you saying?

Daniel: I don't know. Maybe it's just not too late to call the police here.

Nicole: You know, I get it. I know exactly what you're saying. You're giving up.

Daniel: Okay, no, I am not giving up, and I am not backing down. That man tried to kill you. Believe me, I want to rip his head off as badly as you do.

Nicole: Yeah, but if we go to the police, and they tip off Stefano, we're done.

Daniel: Okay, if we walk up to that hideout and Chyka's there, you know we're at the point of no return.

Nicole: I realize that, but--

Daniel: No, I'm not sure you do, Nicole, because if this goes badly and we get caught doing what is not only highly risky, but what is illegal--right? You get that, right? Illegal, right?

Nicole: Yes, yes.

Daniel: Because you're the one with a criminal record. You're the one whose life could be turned upside-down. Do you understand that?

Nicole: Yes, Daniel, but--

Daniel: Okay, no, Nicole. No buts. Look, I know you want to save Eric's future. I get that. But you cannot risk your own in the process. There is no way in hell I'm gonna let you do that.

Tad: Abigail, hey.

Abigail: Hi.

Tad: What can I get you?

Abigail: Coffee, black and strong.

Tad: Nobody's hungry. What gives?

Abigail: EJ, we need to talk... about, um, some press releases that the hospital board needs to approve immediately. So I'd appreciate it if you would call me back.

Tad: Too bad you weren't here ten minutes ago.

Abigail: Why is that?

Tad: EJ was just here.

Abigail: Uh, where'd he go?

Tad: To the corporate gym to work out. Must be good to be king.

Sami: Maybe I should remind you of the last thing you said to me before I left. You said, "things have to change one way or the other." If that's not an ultimatum, what was it?

Kayla: JJ...

JJ: Yeah?

Kayla: You can always talk to me. I want to help you.

JJ: [Sighs] When you told me about what my dad did to you--and I'm sorry to even bring it up again.

Kayla: You--you don't need to ever apologize about that.

JJ: I-it's just--it's probably one of the worst things you ever went through. It just-- but somehow, you forgave him. Right? You did, right? Everyone says you did.

Kayla: It took a long time. But in the end, yeah.

JJ: Well, how did you do it?

Kayla: Why are you asking me about this now?

JJ: It's just because I'm not so good at forgiving people myself, and--

Kayla: JJ, what's going on with you?

JJ: If I screw it up one more time, do you think Mom could really ever forgive me?

Theresa: And Daniel's not going to pine after Jennifer for the rest of his life. I mean, she broke his heart how many times? And not to mention the fact that she's so annoying and boring--

Brady: You know, if you're gonna pretend to still be in the program, you can't live in denial.

Theresa: God, Brady, have you ever considered that maybe you don't know Daniel as well as you think you do?

Brady: Oh--[Groans]

Theresa: I'm sorry, I'm--

Brady: Don't-- [mumbles shrilly] these things happen. Don't worry. I got another one like this at home, I bet. Yeah, I got one just like it. No worries.

Theresa: Wow.

Brady: [Grunts]

Theresa: Must be nice to have a disposable income to buy disposable designer accessories.

Brady: I--that was a gift, I think, actually.

Theresa: Oh, oh, oh, even better. God, you have no idea how lucky you are, do you?

Brady: No, I know, I know. I'm--I'm very lucky. I'm lucky. That's a nice purse you got there, though.

Theresa: Oh, come on, please. It's a cheap designer knock-off, okay? Anyone can tell.

Brady: Theresa, who cares?

Theresa: I do.

Brady: It's just stuff. Who cares about it?

Theresa: Oh, well, I'm sure that the person who blew, what, ten grand on that watch would love to hear you say that. You know, the only stuff I ever got from my family, Brady, was lectures, okay?

Brady: Well, here's what I know. You have a roof over your head. You have a job. And the best stuff of all, you have people that care about you.

Theresa: So I should just shut up and be grateful? While rich jerks like you who don't even need the money just keep getting richer? God, you have no idea what it's like.

Brady: Well, I'm sure you're gonna tell me, honey, right?

Theresa: No, you know what? Go to hell, Brady.

Brady: Wait, w--

[Door slams]

Theresa: [Sighs]

Kayla: Why are you worried about this now? Did something else happen?

JJ: [Sighs] It's just that Uncle Justin got called away tomorrow, and he can't be at my hearing.

Kayla: Well, that's too bad. It could be postponed, right?

JJ: Well, I-I just want to get this over with. You know, so I'm pretty sure I'll just go ahead tomorrow with another lawyer.

Kayla: Which will be fine.

JJ: I just hope that it won't be a mistake.

Kayla: Well, you've been doing great, right?

JJ: But what if the judge changes his mind?

Kayla: Listen, whatever happens in court, you can't predict the judge's decision. And even if it doesn't go your way, why would you think that your mother would be mad at you? She knows how hard you've been trying and everything that you've done. And you know what else? You are her pride and joy. She loves you so much, and nothing is going to change that. Come here. Oof. It's gonna be over soon.

Cashier: Hey. Can I help you?

Theresa: I'm good, thanks. Hi, I'm from University Hospital. I have some supplies to pick up.

Cashier: No problem, Miss...

Both: Deveraux.

Cashier: But for this kind of check, we need to see two forms of ID.

Tad: All right.

Brady: Thanks, T.

Jennifer: Uh, no, no, Adrienne, I'm so sorry I missed you. I did get your message. Oh, no, it's not your fault at all. Yeah, I'll talk to JJ, and I'll let you know what he decides, okay? All right, thank you. Bye-bye.

Brady: Jenn? Hey.

Jennifer: Hey.

Brady: Is everything okay?

Jennifer: Uh, no. I just found out that Justin is not going to be at JJ's sentencing hearing tomorrow.

Brady: Oh. Sorry about that. Don't worry, it'll work out.

Jennifer: Yeah, I hope so. I just--

Brady: [Chuckles] Yeah, I--as you can see, I left the program.

Jennifer: What happened?

Brady: Well, I had a bad day, first of all, to cap off a very bad year, as you know. And, look, I had a few too many, and I missed Arianna's christening.

Jennifer: Yeah, I was wondering where you were.

Brady: Of course, Maggie was very unhappy with me.

Jennifer: No, she was very worried about you.

Brady: I'm fine. I'm fine. There's nothing to worry about. Um, and I'm sure everything is going to be fine with JJ too. So don't worry about it.

Jennifer: Thank you.

Brady: You're welcome. [Grunts] It's good to see you.

Jennifer: You too, Brady.

Nicole: Your life is at risk too, okay? I dragged you into this.

Daniel: No, you didn't.

Nicole: Why am I the only one you're worried about?

Daniel: You're not the only one. I, um--

Nicole: You think I'm helpless? The weaker sex?

Daniel: Please. Please, is it so hard to believe that I care about you?

Nicole: Sometimes.

Daniel: We have been through a hell of a lot together. I will always care about you. Hold on, wait a minute. Wait a minute.

Nicole: What?

Daniel: It's Chyka. He is inside.

Nick: Sami.

Sami: Nick.

Nick: How are you doing?

Sami: Great.

Nick: Look, it looks like you're in a hurry...

Sami: I am.

Nick: But if you have a minute--

Sami: Save your breath, Nick. I heard all about what you were shoveling at Gabi and Kate, and I'm just telling you right now, I'm not gonna buy it. Not one word.

EJ: [Sighs]

[Shower running]

EJ: Shut the door.

JJ: Thanks, Aunt Kayla.

Kayla: Well, you feeling better?

JJ: A little.

Kayla: Hey, listen, I want you to tell me what you decide about that court date, okay? 'Cause I want to be there.

JJ: You don't have to.

Kayla: The whole family wants to come. We want to support you.

JJ: Great.

Kayla: Okay. All right, I guess I should get going. I don't need to remind you to stay away from--

JJ: Away from Theresa, yeah.

Kayla: Theresa, right. You know how much I love her, and I want to believe that she's trying to change, but you, mister, need to keep your nose clean. I'm afraid for you. She means trouble.

JJ: Right. Oh, and let me let you out.

Kayla: Yeah, okay. I'll see you later.

JJ: You have no idea.

Rory: Dude, I thought your aunt would never leave. She's there, dude.

JJ: What? What?

Bev: Theresa's at the store.

Theresa: [Scoffs] I cannot believe that I drove here without my driver's license.

Cashier: Um... excuse me a sec.

Theresa: Hey, um, hi. Can you actually help me?

Kurt: Yeah.

Theresa: My boss, she's just such a bitch on wheels, and if I show back up at the office without getting what she sent me for, she's totally gonna fire me on the spot.

Kurt: Mmm.

Theresa: You think maybe you could--

Kurt: Yeah, let me see what you got. Okay, um, Abigail... uh, I'll make an exception this one time.

Theresa: Oh, thank you so much.

Kurt: Let me go put together the order you emailed over.

Theresa: Oh, you know what? Actually, this is actually for an employee morale incentive program, so I'll stop by for the paperclips and thumb tacks at another time.

Kurt: Okay.

Theresa: I just need 20 $100 gift cards.

Kurt: What kind?

Theresa: The debit kind. The kind you can just use anywhere. Could you maybe do that for me?

Daniel: Uh...I don't know. I'm not 100% sure.

Nicole: What? I thought you said it was him.

Daniel: Well, it looks like him. Think he's alone, but he's staying away from the window.

Nicole: Oh--

Daniel: Get down. Get down.

Nicole: What are you doing?

Daniel: Shh. Okay, you--you are gonna stay right here. You're gonna be my lookout. Do not leave from this spot. If you need help, you call me.

Nicole: No, that's not part of the deal.

Daniel: Damn it, Nicole. Listen to me. You take it or you leave it.

Nicole: But how are you gonna-- [Whispers] Oh, Daniel! [Sighs]

Nick: Kate and Gabi both were talking about me to you? Wow, I've never been so popular.

Sami: You remind me of one of my daughter's toys. You squeeze it and it says the same three things over and over again. 'Cause you've changed, right? Determined to turn your life around this time.

Nick: Yeah, from what I hear, you said those same things a few times. I understand that it's hard to believe that I've changed this time and that it's gonna take time for me to prove myself to you.

Sami: I wouldn't hold my breath.

Nick: I would.

Sami: All right, Nick. Why don't we just put our cards on the table here?

Nick: Cards?

Sami: [Chuckles] Oh, you're good. But two can play at this game, and you're not gonna win.

Abigail: I'm sorry. I tried to call you. I ran into Nick and he said some stuff that was, uh, hard to take.

EJ: Mm-hmm. What did he say?

Abigail: He said that I was honest... and good... and that I would never do something if I knew that it would hurt someone. I felt like he could see right through me. He...he kept saying all of these wonderful things and all I could do is think about you and me.

EJ: Well, let's go back. Abigail, you're a good person.

Abigail: Would Sami say that if she knew what we did? Or what about your kids? My mom?

EJ: What do you want me to say?

Abigail: I don't know. I don't know. I hate lying to my family, but every single time I tell myself that this is over, I... I feel like I'm lying to myself.

EJ: Abigail... you shouldn't be here.

Abigail: No one saw me. Not a single soul.

Nick: [Laughs] I'm sorry.

Sami: What's so funny?

Nick: Well, I guess to extend your metaphor, uh, I can count cards and I don't really need you to lay yours on the table. Do you know what I mean? Unless you insist. In which case, ladies first.

Sami: You are nothing to me.

Nick: Really?

Sami: You're my son's cousin. That didn't stop you from trying to ruin his life. He was still willing to take a bullet to save yours, and then you were still planning to ship his daughter to a different state.

Nick: Thank you.

Sami: You were gonna take her away from him.

Nick: Thank you for the recap, Sami.

Sami: You think there's something you could say right now that would make me ever trust you?

Nick: [Sighs] I'm getting the sense that you want nothing to do with me.

Sami: Uh-huh. Wow. You really are a genius, aren't you?

Nick: I'm sorry you feel that way, because I am a changed man. And not giving me a chance to make amends? It's gonna be your loss.

Brady: This one's for you, Jenn. You tell Maggie I just said no...and eventually she'll have to accept it. I don't have a problem.

Jennifer: JJ, where are you?

Theresa: [Sighs] Thanks.

Kurt: What else can I do for you, Abigail?

Theresa: Nothing. Thanks.

[Branch snaps]

Chyka: Hello? Who's there?

Sami: You're sure Mr. DiMera is in here? Okay. Thank you. Oh, EJ is gonna be so surprised.
