Daniel: Hey! Nicole! Nicole, hey!
Nicole: Hi, hi, hi.
Daniel: Ah, there you are. Hey, did you, uh--did you get my message?
Nicole: Uh, yeah. I thought you were gonna be back last night.
Daniel: Me too, but I had an OR thing all night long.
Nicole: Okay, you said you needed my help?
Daniel: I think--you know what? I think there might be something we can do to help Eric after all. Yeah.
Rory: Okay, wait. So why didn't I get invited on JJ and Bev's excellent adventure trying to trip up that skank Theresa?
Bev: Yeah, I wouldn't call it "excellent."
JJ: You didn't miss anything, man. But I'm still counting on you for the next part, if it goes that far.
Rory: Okay, so what's the latest?
JJ: Bev left Theresa a little present at the hospital. Now we just need to make sure she takes the bait.
Theresa: Oh, gee, thanks. Oh, hey! Amy! Quick question for you. Yesterday, I got some mail that was addressed to me, but it was meant for someone else.
Amy: Oh, sorry, I'll take it.
Theresa: Oh, no worries. I already rerouted it myself. I was just wondering, any idea how that might happen?
Amy: People I work with down in the basement--barely functional.
Theresa: Oh, so they just find stuff that's fallen out of envelopes and take their best guess who it should go to?
Amy: Exactly. Totally random.
Theresa: Thanks. All right. Well... at least somebody up there is finally taking care of me.
Rafe: Oh, I'm sorry about that, man.
Tad: I got it.
Rafe: Trust me, I can't wait to get rid of this thing.
Tad: Last time I saw you, you were on crutches. And then the time before that, you were in a wheelchair. I'd say you're doing pretty good.
Tad: How's Gabi?
Rafe: She's great.
Rafe: Yeah, the christening was beautiful.
Tad: Oh, I'm sure. But Nick showing up, I'm sure, flipped her out.
Rafe: Wait, Nick Fallon? Was there?
Tad: Yeah. You didn't know?
Rafe: He's back in Salem?
Nick: We're almost there.
Gabi: Where are you taking me, Nick?
Nick: It's a surprise! But I know that you're gonna love it. You don't have to be scared, Gabi. We're friends. I told you that.
Gabi: I know, but what-- what is that sound?
Nick: We're here. You can take off the blindfold. [Sighs] It's great out here, isn't it? So serene... secluded. And the river's so powerful. It's the perfect place for a picnic, don't you think?
Gabi: Uh... a picnic? I mean, isn't it a little cold for a picnic?
Nick: You know, you're right. And the water too cold for a swim, I'm thinking. It's probably about as cold as the night you pushed me in here. Only one way to find out.
Gabi: [Screams] [Gasps] Help! Help!
Nick: Gabi, I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'll help you. Here.
Gabi: Help me!
Nick: I'll help you.
Gabi: Help me.
Nick: I'll help you. [Laughing maniacally]
Julie: So was Gabi receptive to the idea of being friends again?
Nick: If Gabi gives me another chance, I think... she's gonna be really surprised at how much I've changed.
Eric: Brother Timothy? Eric Brady. It's good to meet you. I understand you're gonna be my confessor on this retreat.
Timothy: Yes. And I understand we have a great deal to talk about.
Nicole: Uh, I thought you said all of Eric's test results were destroyed.
Daniel: Yeah, yeah. But what slipped my mind... before all this craziness was that, before "Dr. Duvall" showed up and sabotaged all my files, I'd compiled a list of scientists.
Daniel: Yeah, the very few MDs and PhDs who had done work with the compounds used to drug Eric. Right there is a hard copy.
Nicole: Uh, should we give this to the police?
Daniel: No, no, well, we know that Stefano has eyes and ears on the inside, right?
Daniel: And after what happened with you and Eric, I just don't wanna tip anyone off that we're back in the hunt on this. So now listen to me, look. Nicole, look at me. 'Cause obviously this is gonna be risky. Are you ready to be involved? Do you wanna be involved?
Nicole: Yes! Yes, of course I'm in. I mean, uh... at work, our computer has an IP address that's totally masked, so we can cover our sources and keep them all confidential. We also have other search tools. And let's just say that the NSA has nothing on Titan TV.
Daniel: Yeah, well, leave it to Victor.
Nicole: [Laughs] Only, um, one... teeny, tiny, little problem. Uh, I'm not sure I work there anymore.
Rory: Okay, so what if Theresa doesn't take the bait?
JJ: If she figures out that I set her up, she's gonna come to my hearing and make sure I spend the foreseeable future in jail.
Bev: Which she threatens to do every day anyway.
Rory: Okay, um, dude, you know that I have your back and all, but... are you sure that it's worth it?
JJ: Let me put it to you this way. If we get Theresa out of the way, everybody wins.
Theresa: Uh, no, my-- my boss is out today, so can I-- can you just come see me later? Perfect. Oh! Gosh. I'm late for a very important date.
Julie: I'm sure I don't have to tell you not to push too hard with Gabi.
Nick: No. You don't.
Julie: Not that you asked for my advice.
Nick: I appreciate your perspective.
Julie: He said, so diplomatically.
Nick: I'm learning. Trust me, Gabi's the one who gets to decide what kind of relationship we're gonna have this time around.
Nick: Yeah. I'm sorry! I'll help you. Here.
Gabi: Help me!
Nick: I'll help you.
Gabi: Help me.
Nick: I'll help you. [Laughing maniacally]
[Knocking on door]
Rafe: Gabi! It's me!
Gabi: I guess you heard.
Rafe: Yeah. I thought he was gone for good.
Gabi: Yeah, me too.
Rafe: So what, he just showed up at the church?
Gabi: After you left.
Rafe: I should've stayed.
Gabi: Well, you didn't know you were gonna miss out on all the fun. Plus, there was nothing you could've done.
Rafe: You know, this doubles as an excellent weapon.
Gabi: Rafe, I'm okay.
Rafe: So is he sticking around, or what? Does that depend on whether he gets what he wants... you two to be friends again?
Chyka: Finally... a little rest for the wicked.
Daniel: What do you mean you don't know if you have a job?
Nicole: Well, Miles and I got in a little... disagreement. But don't worry, I will take care of it.
Daniel: Yeah. You know, when you say things like that, that's when I worry.
Nicole: [Laughs] Well, I didn't think I was gonna go back there, but I'll do it for...Eric.
Daniel: You know, every time I think things are hopeless... I don't know, what do they say? Um... when God closes one door, Nicole Walker, she just finds a way to just bust it down. [Laughter] All right. I'm, uh--I'm gonna go change, and I will see you at the station. Okay?
Daniel: All right.
Theresa: Oh. Well, look who's here.
JJ: Okay, we'd better get going.
Rory: Uh, wait. Shouldn't whatever you need me to do involve ditching school?
JJ: Hey, Mom. I thought you went to work.
JJ: Um, yeah, we're just going to school.
Jennifer: Can you just stay here for one minute, please?
JJ: Well, we were just on our way to class.
Jennifer: Well, then let me rephrase that. You will stay here for one minute, and you two will go.
Bev: Mrs. Deveraux, we were just--
Jennifer: What? Bonding over Hemingway again? I thought you were supposed to be studying nonfiction this semester.
Bev: Rory, let's just go. I'm sorry.
Jennifer: How could I let myself believe that anything had changed?
Nicole: May I help you?
Theresa: It's Nicole, right? I've seen you on the news. You look so... much better in person.
Nicole: Theresa. You're exactly how I imagined you.
Theresa: I guess Daniel didn't tell you that I was coming over this morning. Hey.
Theresa: Did you forget about our breakfast meeting?
Daniel: I will, uh... catch up with you a little later. Later, Nicole.
Nicole: Glad to finally meet you...Theresa.
Theresa: Um, did I come at a bad time?
Daniel: No, I actually just, you know, got called into emergency surgery last night, crazy morning. But I do have a few minutes. So why don't we just go get breakfast at Brady pub?
Theresa: You know what? I don't really wanna have this conversation with my grandma lurking. It's kind of personal. I was hoping maybe we could just stay here.
Timothy: I hope you were able to sleep. Compared to Salem, I'm sure you'll find our accommodations here rather spartan.
Eric: [Sighs] Compared to the mission in Africa, this is...luxurious.
Timothy: Hmm. I know it was there that you decided you wanted to become a priest...after all you'd witnessed.
Eric: Yes, that's right.
Timothy: The bishop asked me to read your file before we spoke. But what I'm having trouble understanding is, after months of maintaining your innocence and fighting to be reinstated, why now have you come to question your vows?
Nicole: Miles. Thank you for meeting me.
Miles: Uh, Tad, mimosa on me. Uh, Zsa Zsa here will have a virgin though. [Clicks tongue] [Laughs] Uh, and by the way, note that I'm keeping a safe arm's length from her, because you know, you just never know with her. Oh, and by the way, I would guard your barware, just in case.
Nicole: Do you want an apology or not?
Miles: Actually, Nicole, I don't know if I do.
Nicole: Of course you do, or you wouldn't be here. Look, you need me more than I need you. So do you wanna hear what I have to say, or shall I just go ahead and go straight to the competition?
Daniel: Yeah, yeah, it's probably better we're not going out for breakfast. 'Cause I only got a few minutes, so... look, I'm sorry, uh, but there's just something Nicole and I need to take care of together.
Theresa: Oh, I hope I didn't upset her just showing up at your doorstep like that.
Daniel: Why would you?
Theresa: I'm--I've been working really hard lately, so I'm kind of behind on the hospital gossip. I mean, I thought you were just roommates, but... I mean, are you together together?
Jennifer: You said that they were a bad influence on you and that you couldn't hang out with them anymore, yet here we are again.
JJ: I-I swear we were just--
Jennifer: Have you forgotten that your sentencing hearing is tomorrow? If the judge doesn't see that you've changed, you are going to jail. Have you forgotten that?
JJ: Of course I haven't forgotten. It's all I can think about!
Julie: I fought so hard to get you out of that prison, and then... when you really needed me, I wasn't even there.
Nick: You didn't know.
Julie: I didn't ask. I was cruising off the coast of South America with a pisco sour in my hand, and you were faced to look into the eyes of that man that did such... horrific--
Nick: It's okay, you can say it. He--he raped me. I was--I was too ashamed to tell anyone... even you. [Sighs] But, you know, now I know that it wasn't my fault. And it was brutal... and totally unprovoked.
Gabi: Who told you what Nick said about us being friends?
Rafe: Don't get upset. It was "T." I had to pry it out of him.
Gabi: And how does he know that?
Rafe: How-- Gabi, you know there are a lotta people in this town who care about you. They do not wanna see you hurt by that SOB again. And for the record, how the hell does he-- what, he just decides that he's gonna show up at Arianna's christening, after everything that's happened?
Gabi: Well, he said he didn't know, that he was there to see Hope.
Rafe: Oh, okay. So then he sees you, just decides to pull you aside and have a little talk?
Gabi: No! It was afterwards. I was actually on the way to tell you what happened, and I saw him at the town square.
Rafe: So he was following you.
Gabi: No. No, he wasn't following me. He just... ran into me. Look, he says that he wants to put everything behind us, and that's what I want too.
Rafe: Right, yeah. Where have I heard that before?
Gabi: Rafe, he's getting professional help this time.
Rafe: Oh, professional help. Really? It's gonna take a lot more than a psychiatrist to put his head back on straight, you know that? He was screwed up before he ever went to prison.
Gabi: I know, Rafe. I know. I promise I am not gonna get involved with him.
Rafe: Well, I understand that that's what you want. But what if he doesn't let you make that choice? Remember your talk about being friends? You remember how that went? He didn't exactly hear it that way, did he? And what if you hadn't found out that he had set up the whole New York thing, that he intended to be your roommate so you could live happily ever after? No. I am not waiting for him to change. I'm gonna make sure that he stays outta your life for good.
Daniel: Theresa, I'm sure you're eager to use the limited time that we have to talk about, uh... well, you know, the reason you're here.
Theresa: Yeah. Yeah, I do. I just--I didn't really, you know, wanna cause problems for you guys.
Daniel: Oh, no, no. Nicole and I, we're just friends. Yeah, and--and... I've had so much on my plate lately. Honestly, really, I don't have any time for any other kinda relationship.
Theresa: Oh, yeah, I know. I feel the exact same way. I mean... not that I have many good friends, or really any, but... I mean, I think it's just 'cause I wait till I really get to know someone, you know? I have to feel that connection before... I let them get close, you know? I mean, being a recovered substance abuser, it's-- I just--sometimes I can be really reserved. But I wouldn't even be on the road to recovery if it wasn't for you, so.
Daniel: Oh, no, Theresa, I'm glad that you're committed to sobriety, but the hard part is really--it's on you.
Theresa: Yeah, I know, but I wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for you.
Daniel: Ah, I don't know.
Theresa: And I just keep trying to rack my brain thinking of ways that I could thank you.
Daniel: You don't really need to do that.
Theresa: And then just... seeing Brady where I was a few months ago... I mean, it made me realize that maybe what I need to do is just pay it forward. I mean, he's never really been nice to me, but... I just--oh, he was so messed up.
Daniel: Well, no, I'm glad that you called me.
Theresa: Yeah, me too. Me too. I mean, I know that a lotta times I'm just taking and taking, but it felt really good to give back. We were a really good team, weren't we?
Daniel: Uh, Theresa, I think there's something that you and I need to get straight between us.
JJ: All right, Mom, believe me, I don't wanna go to jail and end up like Cousin Nick.
Jennifer: Okay, that won't happen if--
JJ: I don't want you and Abigail to worry about me, okay? I wanna go to college. I wanna have a good future.
Jennifer: Really? That is so great! So if you're so concerned about what's going to happen to you, why would you jeopardize that by hanging out with them?
JJ: Do you see me hanging out with other kids at school? Do you see me going to football games? Do you see me going to dances? That's not my thing. Plus, everyone at school thinks I'm this loser druggie, the kid who smashes windows.
Jennifer: JJ, no!
JJ: But you know what? I don't--I don't care, okay, because they are not my friends. But Bev and Rory are. Okay, they have stuck by me. Even though I'm not doing drugs and they're still doing--
Jennifer: Yes, they are still doing drugs. Do you see my problem, JJ?
JJ: But they do not do it in front of me. Okay, they get it. They understand. All right, you know what? I don't think I'll ever get you to trust me again, all right? But, you know what? After all the lies I told you, if I were you, I'd probably feel the same way. But this is not a lie. And I know that I am down to my last chance, okay? And I know damn well what will happen to me if I screw it up.
Julie: As you say, Nick, it was unprovoked brutality. And I'm sorry. I didn't mean to dredge up the worst memories in your life.
Nick: No, you didn't. You didn't. It's something that I think about every day. Now I know that when something like that happens, you-- you don't try to bury it. You don't...try to forget it. You keep it at the forefront. And that way, you're always conscious of dealing with it.
Julie: Oh, Nick. I'm so proud of you, darling.
Gabi: Rafe, look. Just promise me that you're not gonna go after Nick, please. Nothing good can come from that.
Rafe: Actually, I think a lot of good can come from it. You told him you just wanted to be friends, but that didn't seem to get through his thick skull. So maybe if he talks to your brother, the cop, maybe that--
Gabi: Okay, he just wants us to be friends, that's it.
Rafe: Why? What reason does he possibly have to be anywhere near you?
Gabi: Ra--I don't know! But just for me, please, just don't.
Rafe: Why are you so adamant about this?
Gabi: I don't want another scene.
Rafe: You want him to just keep harassing you?
Gabi: No, I don't, no.
Rafe: Is there something you're not telling me?
Gabi: You know the one thing that I finally got through my thick skull about Nick... is that, uh--that you don't want to get him angry.
Gabi: And now that I finally got him to, you know, be okay with what I did to him--
Rafe: Wait, wait, wait. What? What you did to him?
Gabi: Well, when we ended things the first time, I should've just ignored him. If I would've done that, none of this would've ever happened.
Rafe: No, no, no. You can't blame yourself for this, no.
Gabi: I'm--I'm just saying, okay, that that's what I wanna do this time, okay? And--and eventually, he'll get the message.
Rafe: And if he doesn't?
Gabi: Nick is just someone I want to forget about, okay? I wanna move on with my life. I just wanna be better, so just promise me that you are just gonna leave him alone, please?
Rafe: I promise you. I promise you that I will protect you and that beautiful little baby of yours, and I'm gonna make sure that you never have to worry about Nick again. Okay?
Rafe: Okay. Good.
Daniel: Look, Theresa, it's great--really great--that we were able to work together to help Brady out. And it's even better that, uh, you... you are taking charge of your life. That's good.
Theresa: Thank you.
Daniel: Yeah, yeah. But there is one thing that you and I have in common. What we both just said, that we're not ready for that type of relationship right now.
Theresa: Yeah, I mean, that's true.
Daniel: Yeah, so when it comes to you and me, uh, you understand why there are a lot of reasons why this isn't really a good idea, uh, right now, or just ever.
Theresa: Yeah, I do. I-I do. And you know, you've been saying that all along. It's just... [Sighs] I just feel so unclear about what happened that night. I mean, how you got to my place, and what happened between us. I mean, look, if you're uncomfortable talking about it, I understand. I'm just hoping, eventually... you'll be able to give me what I need.
Theresa: It's... probably not important.
Daniel: Oh. No, here you go. Yeah, it is. It's-- it's Anne. Yeah. Um, seems like she thinks you're at the office. And of course, if she thought you were here with--well, you know how she feels about--
Theresa: Um, well, you know, I am hoping that we'll be able to talk again soon though. I just--I'm... still so unclear about things. You understand.
Daniel: Oh, yeah. No, I do. Yeah. There you go. Yep.
Theresa: I'll see you later.
Daniel: Yeah. Yep.
Theresa: Okay. Slow and steady.
Jennifer: It's all gonna be okay.
JJ: I just have to get through one more day... and the rest of my life, I know.
Jennifer: You better get to school, okay?
JJ: Hey, Mom?
JJ: Do you know what I wish?
JJ: When I came back from boarding school, and I pulled all that crap with Daniel-- and it wasn't even about him-- I just wish that I could do something to take that all back so we didn't have to be this way to each other.
Jennifer: Well, you can't change what you've done. You can only change what you do.
JJ: Yeah, exactly.
Eric: Everything has made me doubt... question my vocation... everything.
Timothy: I'm sure it has. And now I understand, in the wake of this incident, you've come to develop feelings for another woman?
Eric: I haven't acted on them, but I can't... I can't deny them either.
Timothy: And do you suppose that forsaking your vows would be the solution to this dilemma?
Eric: [Sighs] I don't know.
Timothy: Or would that be too easy? After all, you're a priest forever.
Eric: Yes, well, but--
Eric: If I'm not allowed to serve...
Timothy: Then that brings us to the reason why you were removed from your duties. Tell me about Kristen DiMera... and what you claim happened between you.
Daniel: How'd it go with Miles?
Nicole: Well, I'm here, right? That guy lives and dies by ratings, and I'm the only one bringing them in. Have you seen that ridiculous show with the chefs?
Daniel: No. When do I have time to watch TV?
Nicole: Yeah, well, lucky you.
Nicole: But I did already eliminate another name off the list.
Daniel: But I never gave you a copy.
Nicole: Photographic memory.
Daniel: Ah, yes.
Daniel: Blessing and a curse.
Nicole: Yeah. So take a look.
Daniel: All right. What do you got?
Nicole: This guy, he's been in prison for almost a year, and I had no idea so many doctors moonlighted as felons.
Daniel: Yeah. Five more to go. But I'm afraid the internet searches are only gonna get us so far. We've already picked off the low-hanging fruit.
Nicole: Yeah, but you never know.
Daniel: I just don't wanna get Eric's hopes up again after all the false starts.
Nicole: Well, he's unreachable anyway.
Nicole: He's away... on a spiritual retreat.
Timothy: Look, Eric, I know this is difficult, and I'm not making any accusations.
Timothy: But as much as you've tried to substantiate your claims, you really haven't been able to produce any hard evidence.
Eric: Do you know who Kristen DiMera is? I mean, do you know what she's done? I think the facts of my case support everything I'm saying.
Timothy: What about the video?
Eric: What about it?
Timothy: You understand how this scandal has been so painful for the diocese. Your parishioners have not only seen the act, Eric, but how very willing you seemed.
Eric: Willing? How in God's name can you say that? Just stop it!
Daniel: No, Eric didn't mention he was going--
Nicole: It was kind of sudden.
Daniel: Well, I hope he's not giving up on looking for the truth here and proving his innocence.
Nicole: I don't think so. But after that near-death experience and everything, he... wait a minute, what is this link?
Daniel: N-n-no. No, you're not changing the subject, Nicole. What is going on here? Is Eric okay?
Nicole: It's not my place to say anything.
Daniel: No, what you were just about to say, that when we were alone--
Nicole: Daniel, look at this. Look, look, look.
Jennifer: [Sighs] [Gasps] Oh, my gosh! I'm so...
Theresa: Sorry? Uh, let me help you.
Jennifer: I've got it. I'm fine.
Theresa: Oh, wow. These files are so disorganized. I bet you're really regretting replacing me with your daughter, huh? Oh! Oh. Valentine's Day already. Man! The years just zip by, don't they?
Jennifer: Gimme that, please.
Theresa: You know, you should be thinking of who your date's going to be. For the big day? I know I am. [Laughs]
Jennifer: Hello? Liam. Hey. Yeah, I was just thinking about you too.
Tad: Hey! Did you talk to your brother?
Tad: I'm sorry. I didn't know that he didn't know Nick was back in town.
Gabi: It's okay, T. I know you were concerned, and I appreciate that.
Tad: I served the dude last night, he was freaky as ever. What's the deal with that scar? And why is he back in town?
Gabi: I don't know. Um... hey, I know that we said we were gonna get together. But, um, maybe we should wait.
Tad: Are you getting back with Nick?
Gabi: No. No. No, I'm not. I just, um, need a little time. Things are a little complicated. You understand?
Tad: Oh, yeah. Sure, absolutely.
Rafe: Nick! Nick! Nick! Hey.
Nick: Rafe. It's good to see you up and around.
Rafe: Yeah? You might not think so when I'm through with you.
Timothy: Eric, I'm not here to pass judgment. I'm here to help you do a thorough examination of your conscience, however painful that might be.
Eric: My conscience? If you don't believe that I was victimized, after I almost died, then...
Timothy: The issue isn't what I believe, it's what you believe.
Eric: I know what happened.
Timothy: I'm not talking about the events. I'm talking about what was in your heart. Are you sure your devotion to your vows was absolute? And think carefully before you answer that. Because it certainly sounds like that's no longer the case.
Daniel: What do you think?
Nicole: I-I can't tell.
Daniel: Can you enhance it?
Nicole: Wait. Oh, my God. Oh, my God, Daniel. That's the guy that tried to kill Eric and me.
Daniel: Dr. Jakub Chyka.
JJ: What's wrong?
Bev: Uh, JJ, what's the name of the judge on your case?
JJ: Judge Goldberg. Why?
Bev: He's got Cole's case too.
JJ: Yeah, I know.
Bev: Uh, well, my mom told me that he just got the maximum sentence, that the judge wanted to make an example of him.
JJ: Well, that's what he said at my trial too.
Rory: But he also said that he'd give you a second chance.
JJ: If my plan blows up, Theresa's gonna blow my second chance to hell.
Theresa: You're sure we won't get caught?
Horace: That's why you're paying me.
Theresa: Yeah, but if we do, I can't pay you... for several reasons.
Horace: No worries.
Theresa: Beautiful. I'm gonna have to find a special way to thank you for this.
Nick: I'm sure you're wondering why I'm back here in Salem.
Rafe: Yeah! No. No, because I already know what you're gonna say. That I've got nothing to worry about and neither does Gabi because, gosh, you've changed. Well, guess what. I heard it all before. I sure as hell don't believe it now, I didn't believe it then.
Nick: What do you want from me?
Rafe: Nothing. Nothing at all. No contact. You don't talk to my sister or her baby girl, you don't text, you don't write, you don't go near them. Am I clear?
Nick: I think that's up to Gabi, not you.
Rafe: I'm not finished-- [Groans]
