Jennifer: Honey, have you seen JJ?
Abigail: Uh, yeah, he's, um--oh, huh. It's funny, he was just here.
JJ: Oh, damn.
Jennifer: Come on, come on. Julie, Doug, come on in!
Julie: Hi, baby.
Jennifer: So good to see you.
Julie: Oh, darlin'.
Jennifer: Mwah. I am so glad you could make it.
Doug: Yeah--oh. We wouldn't be any place else.
Julie: What is Christmas if you cannot share it with the family?
Jennifer: Mm, that's right.
Doug: Right, right, right. Look at you.
Brady: [Sniffles] Merry Christmas to you too, dad. And merry Christmas to me. [Sniffs]
Victor: [Sighs] Well, now or never.
Maggie: You remember your cue, right? Right.
Daniel: Hmm. Hey, mom.
Maggie: Hi. Uh, I'm sorry to drop by without calling, but Santa's sleigh made an early stop on my doorstep with a very special gift.
Daniel: Wh--what do you mean? Where's your--what are you-- oh, my gosh!
Daniel: You're crazy! Is this my gift?
Daniel: No? You're it. I wanna open you up. Merry Christmas. Mwah!
Daniel: You're my present?
Parker: No, the presents are your gifts.
Daniel: Oh. He sees some presents.
Maggie: Doesn't he?
Daniel: Oh, no!
Eric: I don't know what to say.
Roman: Well, I wanted to get you a flat screen TV, but your mom thought you might be able to use these more.
Eric: [Chuckles] I'm gonna wear this for Christmas mass.
Marlena: Eric, your vestments. Your father and I gave you those.
Eric: Then take them now!
Marlena: Hey, roman.
Eric: Thank you for making time to see me on Christmas eve. Especially when you have so many things to do.
Matt: Son, what's troubling you?
Eric: I had a dream last night.
Matt: About what?
Eric: About Nicole.
Brady: [Sighs] [Sniffs]
[Knock at door]
Brady: [Clears throat] Hey.
Nicole: Look at you, Brady.
Brady: What about me?
Nicole: I know what you've been doing and you've gotta stop.
Johnny: We're back!
Sami: Hi. Whoa, whoa, whoa! Ah! [Laughs] Get over here, you little--
EJ: We made it in one piece, no less.
Sami: Okay, so you know what you have to do now? You have to get dressed 'cause it's time for midnight mass. And do me a favor. Will you please remind your sister that she needs that she needs put her tights on before her shoes?
EJ: I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to finish our conversation last night.
Sami: Me too. You said that we were in this together.
EJ: I did.
Sami: And then your father came home and we went to our separate bedrooms, and I guess I just don't know where things stand.
EJ: Neither do I. Look, Samantha, I recognize that you don't trust me after what happened with Kristen.
Sami: Well, I don't have much choice, do I?
EJ: But I gave up everything that I had when you shot Joseph Bernardi. So why is it you think I wouldn't do the same thing again?
Sami: Oh, my God, you make me sound like Lizzie Borden.
EJ: Samantha! Look. Nick Fallon--even in death-- he's not gonna destroy our future.
Victor: Maggie... would you please do me the honor of becoming my wife?
Maggie: After everything that happened, that you did, I've decided our marriage is over.
Daniel: A wonderful surprise. But Chloe--I--that was--
Maggie: She emailed me to say that she thought Christmas with his daddy was the best present that parker could give you.
Daniel: Aw, it sure is. Yes, it is.
Maggie: And I know I can't talk you into spending Christmas eve at the Hortons'.
Daniel: Uh, you're right, you're right. And I don't suppose Victor's gonna be there either?
Maggie: No, he won't. Doug and Julie were supposed to arrive--oh, my goodness-- a half an hour ago. I should be going. I love you. Mwah. My sweet boy. And I love you. I'll see you both tomorrow?
Daniel: Yes. Yay! Let's hear it. Yay!
Maggie: Okay then.
Maggie: That's a date.
Maggie: Yay! Yay! Bye!
Daniel: Bye. See you.
Sami: Kate and Gabi's involvement in what happened to Nick. And now Sonny knows. EJ, I just don't know how we're gonna keep it all under control.
EJ: [Sighs] We will find a way. In the meantime, I think it's probably best that the others don't know that I know. Theo! My man.
EJ: Abraham, thank you for bringing him.
Abe: Well, actually, Theo has something he'd like to say to Sami.
Sami: Oh. Hi, Theo. Merry Christmas. What's up?
Abe: Go ahead. Go ahead, you can say it. Just like we practiced.
Theo: I'm sorry I gave your earring to Ciara.
Stefano: What, uh... what earring?
Marlena: Have you spoken to Eric today?
Roman: This morning. Look, doc, you just got to give him some time.
Marlena: He's just been through something unspeakable. I can't help him. I can't comfort him. I just hope he's able to find his way.
Eric: I dreamed that I saw Nicole with another man. And when she saw me, she slammed the door in my face.
Matt: And how did that make you feel?
Matt: I think I know why.
Nicole: You cannot hide in this mausoleum, Brady.
Brady: Why? Why can't I?
Nicole: Because it's Christmas eve, and your friends and your family miss you.
Brady: And you are here because?
Nicole: I have a present for you.
Brady: Nicole, please tell me you didn't get me a present. I didn't get you anything, so that's awkward. Why don't you take it back to the store and save us the trouble?
Nicole: In other words, "please get out of here, Nicole"?
Brady: No, I didn't say that.
Nicole: Okay, sure, fine, but you have to come with me.
Julie: Jennifer, I am so very glad that you asked Maggie to stay here.
Doug: Yes, I can't believe that Victor could be so cruel.
Julie: Oh, I can. Men like Victor Kiriakis do not change. I'm sorry I ever believed otherwise. It's like Daniel. Daniel and Jeannie Donovan-- or--or is it Theresa now?
Julie: I'm sorry, Jennifer rose. But after what Daniel did to your brother and now you, I'm sure you feel the same way I do. Really. I hope you're grateful that you saw him in his true colors before you got in too deep.
Abe: Theo found this very expensive earring down by the riverside, and, well, instead of bringing it to me, he gave it to Ciara Brady. He didn't realize it was yours, Sami.
Stefano: You lost--
EJ: Thank you, Theo. Your apology was very gracious.
Sami: And I have my earring back, so thank you.
EJ: Now why don't we get on to more important things, like your Christmas present?
Theo: Yes! Where is it?
Stefano: It's in the study.
EJ: It was so big, we couldn't put it under the tree.
Sami: [Chuckles] [Whispering] Did you see the look on your father's face?
EJ: Samantha, he thinks you're guilty of being very careless with an expensive gift, nothing more. And can you please stop looking like a deer in the headlights? Because if you have "guilt" written all over your face, there's nothing I can do to help you.
Victor: Maggie. Listen, I know you've got a houseful of Hortons, but I, uh...I was wondering if you could spare a few minutes for me?
Matt: I'm not much at interpreting dreams. But maybe Nicole shut the door on you and is moving on with her life. That should be a relief, shouldn't it?
Eric: Yes. And it is, but...
Matt: Meanwhile, while she's moving on with her life, you're stuck in limbo. It's a sad place to be. It's Christmas eve. Last year, you were the celebrant. And this year--
Eric: I don't feel comfortable in the congregation.
Matt: Eric, you're always welcome here. But whether or even if you'll be able to resume your duties, I just couldn't say--
Eric: I-I understand. It's out of your control.
Brady: What if I say, "no"?
Nicole: [Gasps] You don't want the gift of my sparkling company?
Brady: [Laughs] Is that the gift?
Nicole: Ye--yes, its the g--well, I obviously can't take that back to the store. Come on. We can go to club TBD and deck the halls, or--you know what? The film society's playing a Christmas story at the pier. Come on, what do you say?
Brady: I do like that movie, but no. No, no, I-I-I don't want to go out right now. I'm not good company.
Nicole: I don't care.
Brady: I do. Look, I will see you later this week for the interview, Nicole, but I don't want to be "on" for everybody right now. It--it's just weird.
Nicole: All right. All right, I understand. But if you change your mind--
Brady: Thank you. Okay.
Nicole: Well, merry Christmas.
Brady: Merry Christmas.
Brady: Mwah. See ya.
Nicole: If you change your mind--
Brady: I'm gonna change my mind.
Doug: All right!
JJ: So what did you bring me from Zanzibar?
Julie: It was Zagreb, in the first place, JJ Deveraux. And you are gonna have to wait till tomorrow, just like everybody else. Even if you are so pretty.
JJ: And I thought that I was your favorite Horton cousin once removed.
Julie: Oh, the former bad seeds unite into a flowering branch? Well, thanks to the love and support of this family, look at me now.
Doug: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Look at you now.
Julie: [Laughs] And look at you, JJ. I know you're gonna turn your life around.
Abigail: Uh, well, he already is, actually. R: Yes, he has. And we are so very proud of him. Ooh. [Laughs]
Daniel: Oh-ho-ho, gentle.
Nicole: Mmm, what smells good in here? Oh, parker!
Daniel: What? Who's that?
Nicole: Look who's here! Come here, you! Give me a hug. Ooh! Oh, it's a big one. Wow!
Daniel: Parker and I, we baked some cookies.
Nicole: You're making cookies? Yummy.
Daniel: Yeah, this is my Christmas present right here.
Parker: For pretend.
Nicole: Oh, yeah? Well, that's awesome. Hey, you know what? I have a Christmas present for you under the tree that I thought you could probably open after Christmas. But if it's okay with your dad-- I mean, what little boy wants to open his Christmas presents all on Christmas day?
Daniel: How many grown-ups, for that matter?
Nicole: Okay, okay. I'm gonna do this.
Daniel: Oh, let's see what she's got.
Nicole: Let's see. [Gasps] Look at the size of this present!
Daniel: Oh, my God! Let's just see what's in it.
Nicole: Need some help? Wanna open?
Daniel: Wanna open it? Let's see.
Nicole: Give it a good pull.
Daniel: Oof! Whoa. Lift.
Parker: Lift the lid up.
Daniel: [Gasps] What is that?
Parker: What is this?
Daniel: A fishing pole.
Nicole: Oh, so now you can catch all the fish you want.
Daniel: Oh, my goodness. What do you say?
Parker: Thank you.
Nicole: Thank you.
Daniel: Oh, look at that.
Nicole: You're welcome. [Laughs]
[Fishing reel toy clicking]
Abe: You know, I think that's the biggest gift Theo's ever gotten.
Theo: But not the best.
Theo: Mom said that the best gift was family.
Stefano: You know something? Your mother was always right. Mm.
Victor: Thank you for taking the time to talk to me.
Maggie: I-I can't stay long.
Victor: I just want to give you something.
Maggie: Victor... [Sighs] You shouldn't have.
Victor: Just don't say anything until you open it.
Maggie: No, I mean, really, you shouldn't have. I mean, do you think that a necklace, a ring, a pair of earrings will do anything to change the things between us?
Victor: No. That's why I didn't get you a necklace, a ring, or a pair of earrings.
Abigail: JJ! JJ, where did you disappear to now?
JJ: I'm right here.
JJ: Where's everyone else?
Abigail: Doug and Julie are in the kitchen helping mom. I'm sorry she...
JJ: It's Julie. She's just trying to help.
Abigail: Yeah. You know, she used to give dad a hard time too. Remember?
JJ: Not really. No.
Abigail: You know, they used to work together at the spectator when I was little. Even after dad bought her out, if she saw an article that she didn't like...
JJ: Is it time to break out the popcorn?
Abigail: Oh, my gosh, JJ. A couple of times, I thought it was gonna be bloodshed. But, of course, you know, they would hug and everything would be fine, because it's impossible to be mad at dad forever.
JJ: You know, I really miss him.
Abigail: Me too.
JJ: Come here.
Maggie: Do you really mean this?
Victor: From the bottom of my Grinchy little heart.
Victor: Unless you think the words would stick in your throat, I'll say them out loud. I was wrong. Or I should say, "I did the wrong thing for the right reason." I was so desperate to save my grandson that I hurt a lot of people--Eric, Marlena, you.
Maggie: You said you'd do it all over again if you had the choice.
Victor: I wouldn't.
Maggie: What changed your mind?
Maggie: If I had come back home sooner... would you be saying any of this now?
Victor: Maggie, you know that I don't say, "I'm wrong," lightly. You do know that. I'm just a stubborn old man. And after the life that I've led, I don't know that I deserve a second chance. Let alone a 70th. But I will do everything in my power to make this right. Will you give me that chance?
Doug: JJ. Think you might play something for us?
JJ: I'm not very good.
Abigail: No, he's not good, he's great.
Jennifer: And it would mean a lot to your mama.
JJ: All right. I'm more green day than white Christmas.
Julie: Of course, you are.
JJ: Um, let's see what I can do. [Sighs]
[Gentle guitar music]
Silent night holy night all is calm all is bright round yon virgin mother and child holy infant so tender and mild sleep in heavenly peace sleep in heavenly peace
Sami: Lucas just sent me a picture of Ari's first Christmas with Santa. Thought she'd be freaked out by his beard, but she loves it. Look. Aww.
EJ: That's beautiful. What's wrong with Kate? And Gabi? And Sonny?
Sami: Oh, my God, it's him.
Sami: That Santa! That is him. He is the one who saw us in the woods that night that we... killed Nick.
EJ: So a man saw you in the woods that night? And you're just mentioning this to me now?
Sami: Well, he didn't see anything incriminating, okay? You know, we ditched Nick's body behind some bushes.
EJ: Oh, terrific.
Sami: Well, he was a bird watcher, you know? He was just looking for an owl!
EJ: Samantha, he is a man who could place you at the crime scene on the night that Nick "disappeared." What happens if the body turns up or the backpack?
Sami: That backpack was heavier than Santa's sack, okay? It's gonna be at the bottom of the river till the end of time.
EJ: [Scoffs] I cannot believe that you and Kate could be so amateurish when it comes to committing murder.
Sami: What is that supposed to mean?
EJ: I was in the woods for 45 seconds, and I found that nametag for Nick's backpack.
Sami: Well, that's all there is to find.
EJ: Because Theo found the earring? Are you sure that this--this-- this Santa man did not see you with Nick?
Sami: Yes. I mean--I mean no. I--he didn't.
Why don't you let me help you with the bag, and we shall be back in civilization in no time flat?
Sami: Oh, my God. Oh, my God. He saw Gabi with that backpack.
Roman: Well, your mama-- your mom and I thought that maybe you would go to mass with us tonight.
Eric: Well, thanks, but... I don't wanna cause a scene.
Marlena: Well, we could go to holy cross.
Eric: No, no, you should be with the family.
Roman: Well, so should you.
Eric: Dad, don't push it.
Marlena: We won't. I love you so much. Merry Christmas.
Eric: Merry Christmas. I'll see you tomorrow.
Roman: All right. Merry Christmas, son.
Eric: Merry Christmas.
Marlena: You know what?
Roman: He'll be okay, doc.
Marlena: I don't know if he and Brady will ever survive what Kristen did to this family.
[Knock at door]
Henderson: I'm sorry to disturb you, but I brought down the gifts.
Brady: What gifts?
Henderson: That you purchased back in the fall.
Brady: Oh, my God. I forgot about those. Oh, look what's on top. This is for you. And as a special Christmas bonus, please take the rest of the day off.
Henderson: Thank you, sir.
Brady: You are welcome, Henderson. Mm. [Sighs] Lovely.
Maggie: I knew the man I loved was in there somewhere.
Victor: Good God, it's freezing out here.
Maggie: Victor... before I come home... I need your word that...
Victor: Yes. I will do what you asked. Tomorrow.
Maggie: [Sobs softly] Thank you.
Victor: Wait, wait, wait.
Julie: Well, where in the world is your aunt Maggie? Gee, I hope she isn't avoiding us.
Abigail: Why would she do that?
Doug: Oh, thank you.
Julie: Because she doesn't want to hear "I told you so" about Victor. Just like you didn't wanna hear "I told you so" about Chad DiMera. You know you have all the time in the world, darling.
Abigail: Yeah, I know.
Julie: So focus on school. Everything will fall into place. You are so lovely. You know, the nicest guys in the world are gonna be fighting over you.
Abigail: I'm gonna get some more eggnog now.
Julie: Aha. Okay.
Jennifer: Hmm. It's you and me.
Doug: Yep. You know, that son of yours has some real talent.
Jennifer: Dad, I keep telling him.
Doug: Thank you. Why do you suppose he just ran off after he played for us? You don't suppose he was afraid that I would chime in, do you?
Jennifer: No, no. No, of course not. You know what? We are going to have a duet when he gets back. How does that sound?
Daniel: JJ. What are you doing here?
JJ: I just needed to see you.
Daniel: What, on Christmas eve?
JJ: Yeah, it's-- it's important.
EJ: Do you think that this-- [Stammering] This bird watcher-come-Santa guy noticed the backpack, Samantha?
Sami: I know that he did. He offered to carry it for Gabi. And he mentioned it when we saw him again in the town square.
EJ: Whoa, whoa, stop. You saw him again?
Sami: Yeah. He asked us what we were doing in the woods. We came up with the story about how Kate was chasing after her cheating boyfriend. And he totally bought it.
EJ: Stop, Samantha. Kate doesn't have a boyfriend.
Sami: [Scoffs] Well, is it so hard to believe that-- I see your point.
EJ: I mean, this whole situation is going from something that was bad to something that is now almost comically tragic. Not only do you have a man who can place you at the scene of Nick's death, when you saw him again, you concocted a lie that can easily be disproved.
Sami: Well, what was I supposed to say? You know, that we went for some sort of brisk hike in 5-degree weather?
EJ: No, Samantha! You were supposed to say-- it doesn't matter.
EJ: Come here. It'll be fine.
Sami: You don't sound sure.
EJ: Well, you better be sure. Okay? 'Cause you're not gonna let this ruin our kids' Christmas.
Sami: [Sniffles] Right. Right, they deserve to have a nice day.
EJ: And we will get through this together.
EJ: Somebody has to stay here to make sure Santa doesn't miss this house. You wouldn't want him to miss the house, would you? Okay. There we go.
Sami: Okay, here. Uh, Johnny, will you help your sister, please? Button her jacket.
EJ: 86 pieces. That bicycle comes in 86 pieces, Samantha.
Sami: Good luck, Santa. Kids, stop it!
Sami: [Laughs] All right, all right, uh-uh.
EJ: Come here.
Sami: [Laughs] Okay, Christmas kiss for your dad.
EJ: Come on. There we go! Say a prayer for your daddy, okay? He needs it.
Johnny: We will.
Sami: Happy Christmas.
Stefano: Oh, boy, it's good to be home! What's the matter? Somebody put a lump of coal in your stocking?
EJ: No, I think Johnny stopped believing, that's all.
Stefano: Ah. That's not good. I'm gonna have a little chat with him in the morning.
EJ: That's funny, I would have thought you'd be very happy to have him believe that there was no power in the world greater than Stefano DiMera.
EJ: How times change, eh?
Brady: [Sniffs] I can't do this anymore.
Eric: Last-minute shopping?
Nicole: No, I don't really have anyone to shop for. Except for Daniel, of course. And parker. You know, Chloe thought it'd be a good idea for him to stay with his daddy for Christmas, so...
Eric: That's great.
Nicole: I don't suppose that you're going to Christmas mass at St. Luke's? Your family's gonna be there, your friends, your co-workers.
Nicole: Come on, Eric. You're not really gonna spend Christmas eve alone. Are you?
Daniel: Come on in, come on in. What's wrong?
JJ: Nothing. I just wanted to give you something for parker.
Daniel: Speaking of which, here he comes!
[Grunts] There you are! We got a visitor.
JJ: Parker, bud. All right, this is for you.
JJ: Sorry about no wrapping. I--
Daniel: No, he loves it. Get down in that. Open that bad boy up. [Gasps] What is it?
Parker: A train.
Daniel: Oh, my gosh.
JJ: I hope you like it, bud.
Daniel: Hey, he loves it. Thank you, JJ. Why don't you have a seat, man? And we've got the most colorful cookies you'll ever see. Look at those.
JJ: That's tempting, but I can't stay, you know. I don't want mom to worry.
JJ: But thank you. Merry Christmas.
Daniel: Yeah, you too. If you're living with chronic migraine,
Brady: "Granddad: Sorry I couldn't stick around. Merry Christmas."
Stefano: Well, I kept my promise. In thanksgiving, for Chad's life going on, I went out and gave a bunch of olive branches as if they were toys.
EJ: Hmm. You have any takers?
Stefano: Well, there was you.
EJ: [Sighs] What about Rafael?
Stefano: Oh, boy. Rafael. Yes. He doesn't believe that I am sincere.
EJ: Imagine that.
Stefano: [Chuckles] Now listen, if he doesn't believe in my sincerity, there's nothing I can do.
EJ: No, just let the chips fall where they may.
Stefano: Buon Natale, my son.
Sami: Look, it's not that EJ didn't want to be here, you know. He's just building Johnny's bike for Christmas.
Marlena: You don't have to explain that to me. But after you're married, we'll make sure we do these things as a family.
Sami: Good. Mom, I--speaking of that--texted Eric and Brady.
Marlena: They're not coming. I'm sorry.
Sami: Mom, this is not your fault. I have tried talking to Eric about this. What can you do?
Nicole: You're gonna skip mass? Uh, isn't that, like, a mortal sin or something?
Eric: I didn't say I was skipping.
Nicole: Well, in that case, I have a crisp 20 for the offering plate at holy cross.
Eric: You mean you're going?
Nicole: What, did hell just freeze over?
Eric: Well, it's just that you're not usually someone-- yeah.
Nicole: Who believes? No. I mean, not like you. But it's inspiring that you still turn to your faith after everything that's happened to you. Come on. We can slip in the back pew. You don't have to talk to anyone but God. What do you say? You can take this heathen with you.
Jennifer: Where have you been?
JJ: Picked up some candy canes for the kids tomorrow.
Jennifer: That's great. That's really sweet, honey.
JJ: I also called grandma Jo. She and Vern say merry Christmas to everyone.
Julie: Very nice.
Jennifer: Oh, I really wish they could be here with us. You know, we really should get to the Bradys. I don't know where aunt Maggie could be.
Jennifer: Oh, hi.
Maggie: I hope you don't mind an extra guest.
Julie: Well, speak of the devil.
Jennifer: Victor is not a guest. He's family. It's so good to see you.
Julie: Looks like somebody's Christmas wish came true.
Doug: Mine did.
