Episode #12169 ~ Kristen busts Marlena; Daniel finds a new way for Eric to remember; Nick takes the stand at Sami's trial.
Provided By Suzanne
Sami: "Oh, don't worry--it's not loaded." I mean, Nick is loving this, isn't he?
[Scoffs] He really is. And he's gonna do everything he can to help them put me away... all because I--
EJ: All because you what?
Sami: Oh, my God.
Nick: "You don't think I'll pull the trigger? I've done it before."
Melinda: You're sure those were Samantha Brady's exact words?
Nick: There's nothing like staring down the barrel of a pistol to sear a moment into your brain forever.
Melinda: You really thought she was gonna shoot you.
Nick: Till the e cond she didn't.
Melinda: Thank you, Mr. Fallon. That's exactly what I needed. Court will be back in session shortly... and you will be our first witness.
[Door opens, closes]
Adrienne: Justin... how's the trial going?
Justin: Fine. Actually, we probably shouldn't be talking, given that you're here to testify for the prosecution.
Adrienne: Uh, yes, but given the fact that I'm the one who came forward with the evidence that could help you win Sami's case, I thought...
Adrienne: I thought this could be a first step.
Adrienne: Us working things out.
Jennifer: This is my house and my rules. And as long as you live here, you are going to do what I say.
JJ: Fine. Then I guess it's time to move out.
Jennifer: JJ, do not say things that you don't mean. Please, just give me the phone.
Eric: Daniel. Hi.
Daniel: Hey, you got a minute?
Daniel: I've been poring over all these tests we took during you stay at the hospital, seeing if I could have missed any additional clues.
Daniel: Sorry. I, uh... I got nothing.
Eric: Yeah, well, I knew it was a long shot, but I appreciate your trying. I guess I'll just have to live with the fact that I'll never know exactly what happened to me that night at the hotel.
Daniel: Well, actually, I wouldn't do that just yet.
Nicole: Whoopsie, I'm sor--
Kristen: Watch it.
Nicole: You watch it.
Kristen: You're the one that bumped into me.
Nicole: [Slurring] It was an accident--an accident, sorry. Don't get so snippy.
Kristen: Have you been drinking?
Nicole: No, I'm not drinking.
Kristen: Are you drunk?
Nicole: Well, I am drinking, but I've been a little bit drunk. But my name's Nicole, and I've been that way all my life, thank you very much.
Kristen: [Laughs] Oh, my goodness. Isn't it kind of early in the morning for this?
Nicole: For your information, morning time is the time you actually drink mimosas.
Kristen: Why am I not surprised by this?
Nicole: Hmm, nothing gets past you, does it? It's okay--it's only my first...
Kristen: Now you're spitting on me. Get away from me, and stay away from me, okay?
Nicole: No, I'm not gonna take this. Look, look, look, we're gonna make a deal, all right? Let's make a deal.
Kristen: Damn it, Nicole...
Nicole: Let's make a little deal. I will stay away from you if you stay away from Brady.
Kristen: What are you talking about? Get your hands off of me!
Nicole: You know what? You don't deserve Brady. You know what you deserve? You deserve a rock to the head is what you deserve.
Kristen: Get off of me!
Nicole: I will tell Brady--
Kristen: Let me go.
Nicole: I will tell him...
Kristen: You've lost your mind--get off of me!
Nicole: I'm not doing anything right now.
Kristen: Right now!
Nicole: You want to know how I'm gonna get Brady to see you for the skunk that you really are? Skank--actually, I really meant to say "skank." But skunk really suits you.
Kristen: You are so wasted, you're pathetic.
Nicole: Oh, yeah? Well, not wasted enough to know that you're hiding something, honey bunny-- something deep, dark, and dirty. And I'm the girl who's gonna dig it up.
Kristen: Good for you.
Nicole: You know what I was really good at when I was a reporter? Skeletons in the closet, and I know you've got a lot of those.
Nicole: And I know every nook and cranny in the DiMera mansion. Who knows what I'm gonna find?
Kristen: So why don't you go find yourself a big flashlight and go check out all the closets in my mansion, okay? That is, if you survive your little hangover. Now, I've got things to do. I'll talk to you--
Nicole: Oh, no, no, no, baby.
Kristen: I'm telling you right now--we are done! I've had it with you, okay? Can I be any clearer than that? What's going on? What are you up to?
Daniel: Now, Eric, it is a long shot, but I've been thinking-- you want to know what happened, I want to know what happened. I think we should go back to the scene of the crime.
Eric: Ah, I don't know if there was a crime.
Daniel: Well, we should know. You said you keep having these flashes of memory. I think we should go back to the hotel and see what else you can remember.
Nicole: Want to know what's going on here? She's trying to steal your hard-inherited cash. You know her billionaire husband just left her, right? How much do you carry in there anyway?
Kristen: Marlena, you're capable of a lot of things, but I don't think you're a thief.
Nicole: Really? You don't think so? Where do you think Sami learned her lying, thieving ways, hmm?
Marlena: May I say something, please? I found it on the ground. I was about to return it to you. You are so welcome!
Kristen: Thank you.
Marlena: And you...
Marlena: What are you drinking?
Nicole: Mimosa. You want some?
Marlena: Do you think that's the image that St. Luke's wants to portray?
Nicole: Eric hired me. He knew what he was getting.
Marlena: Oh, you are a piece of work.
Nicole: Mm. And you're insufferable. Really, guzzle some. It might make you relax.
Marlena: Why do people keep saying that to me?
Kristen: You know, this is real, but, um, I got to go.
Nicole: [Laughs] You know what? That was actually kind of fun.
Marlena: I need the handbag back.
Nicole: Are you kidding? Why?
Marlena: I'll go this way. Go, go, go.
JJ: It's not enough that you want to control me and tell me what I can do and when and with who--
Jennifer: Oh, yeah, right. I mean, how unreasonable could I be? What loving mother wouldn't just let her son deal drugs out of her house?
JJ: You want my phone so you can go through my contacts and call all their parents and make their lives as miserable as mine?
Jennifer: No. JJ, no. I want you to have a good life. No, I want you to have a great life. But that is never going to happen unless you own your mistakes and you do the right thing.
JJ: Why don't you start owning your mistakes? Why would I want to stay here? All I hear is that "I'm disappointed in you, JJ. You're grounded, JJ. Here's another rule for you to follow, JJ." Well, guess what. Happy birthday to me--I'm done with this crap!
Jennifer: You know what? I am done with giving you chances to screw up! So, if you walk out that door, don't you dare come back!
Eric: Mason collected all the evidence that was destroyed. I don't want to drag you all the way back out there for nothing.
Daniel: Okay, you know, even though the physical evidence is gone, you could... I don't know, you could talk to people, see the room, see what else jogs your memory. What? What is it? What is wrong?
Eric: Well, it's just the idea of it. It just...makes me a little bit unsettled.
Daniel: I bet it does.
Eric: But on the other hand, it's the only way to get answers. You can't live life without facing your demons. I guess it's time I faced my own.
Kristen: Oh, my God.
Nicole: What, are you afraid of me?
Kristen: What do you think?
Nicole: Then why'd you run away in the middle of a fight?
Kristen: Because I'm done, Nicole!
Nicole: Oh, yeah? Well, I'm not done.
Kristen: Listen, for the last time, let me go!
Nicole: You let go of Brady.
Kristen: Or what?
Nicole: You're gonna find out.
Kristen: Oh, really?
Kristen: Oh, you're gonna threaten me?
Nicole: I am. Oh! Ooh!
Kristen: I told you a long time ago, never underestimate me. And you know why? Because you are a stupid idiot.
Nicole: Okay, just let go of me, you crazy bitch! Oh, my God!
Kristen: Am I crazy now? You haven't seen crazy.
[Both snarling at once]
Marlena: Nicole. What in the world is going on? Nicole! I'm sorry--I tried to keep her from going after you, really.
Nicole: Wait. Wait a minute. You're the one who wants her head on a pike. You know, you should be the one to do it.
Marlena: You know what? Why don't you think about the parish and Eric... and your own self-esteem, which you must have very little of left, and go home and sober yourself up.
Nicole: What is it with Salem? Every woman in it is either sanctimonious or a slut... or both.
Kristen: Okay, I'm done. Have a nice day, ladies.
Nicole: Oh, my God. I thought she was actually gonna put her claws into my throat. Yeah, well, I'm okay. Thanks for asking.
Marlena: I got to go.
Nicole: What? H w! Wait a minute. Wait. Wait for me!
Justin: I appreciate your coming forward with the information about Timmy Bernardi's bank account. And I'm also sorry that we haven't had a chance to speak lately.
Adrienne: I understand that. I'm sure you've been busy preparing for the case. And I am testifying for the prosecution.
Justin: There is that.
Adrienne: I just want justice.
Justin: That's what I want too.
Adrienne: I don't want to fight. And I don't want to live apart. It just seems so strange... and sad. I miss you. Maybe when all this is over, we can start talking again.
[Cell phone ringing]
Justin: I hope so.
Adrienne: You probably have to get going.
Justin: Yeah, I do.
Adrienne: Good luck.
EJ: What's wrong?
Sami: I was just thinking. If Nick testifies about this, he's not gonna want to admit that he dragged me into a dark alley and was scaring me and that I was just defending myself. He's gonna find a way to bring up the fact that will shot you.
EJ: No, he won't.
Sami: How can you be so sure?
EJ: Because as much as Nick is lacking in any honor and decency, he has a keen instinct for self-preservation, Samantha. He's not gonna want to go to prison for blackmail charges. He'll keep his own counsel, trust me.
Marge: Are you testifying for the prosecution?
Nick: Yeah, I-I am.
Marge: Thank you. I'm Marge Bernardi... the reason that you're here. Sami Brady murdered my husband.
Sami: Who else is Melinda Trask gonna call to the witness stand? I mean, I swear to God, if she wants to revisit every sin I've ever committed, we could be in court for the rest of our lives.
EJ: Samantha, this is almost over, okay? I promise. Okay?
[Clears throat] It's time.
EJ: Justin... we have to find a way to get the money that was found in timothy Bernardi's account introduced into evidence.
Justin: There is none, EJ, not until we present our case or unless a witness opens a door.
EJ: So, in the meantime, the jury's just supposed to hear that Samantha has a very unfortunate history with Bernardi, guns, and prison?
Justin: I'd suggest you keep your voice down.
EJ: Justin, the way this is going, by the time that we present our evidence that Bernardi's corrupt, the jury's already going to have made up their mind that she's guilty.
Nick: I'm sorry for your loss, Mrs. Bernardi.
Marge: Thank you. Did you know my husband?
Nick: Uh, no, ma'am, I didn't.
Marge: It's your loss. So many people know his name because of the way that he died. I wish more people had a chance to know the way he lived.
I'll be back in a few minutes. Mr. Fallon, ms. Trask is ready for you. Testimony is about to resume.
Marge: How could you?
EJ: Look, I should warn you... Nick's testimony could be a little bit of a minefield. There are certain details, unrelated to the case, that, if they were to come to light, could prove rather damning to a certain individual.
Justin: Are you talking about will? You don't need to say anything more. I have a feeling I know what you're talking about. Okay, I'll do my very best to steer clear of that subject entirely.
EJ: Thank you.
EJ: So, listen, I spoke to Justin about William. You don't have anything to worry about.
Sami: Thank you for protecting my son.
Justin: In this case, protecting will is also protecting you. We don't want to do anything that would strengthen your motive in the jury's eyes for wanting Bernardi dead.
Jennifer: What? Where are you gonna go, JJ?
JJ: What do you care?
Jennifer: Of course I care. Are you gonna make a career as a drug dealer? But I don't know. I guess in prison, you could get free room and board, right?
JJ: I'm already in prison. What's the difference?
Jennifer: Do you hear yourself? What is wrong with you?
JJ: What's wrong with me is you.
Jennifer: I am trying to help you.
JJ: I don't need your help!
Jennifer: Give me the phone, JJ.
JJ: Make me.
Jennifer: Give me the phone. Giv--give me.
Jennifer: I'm okay. No!
[Voice breaking] Don't touch me. I don't need your help. Just give me the phone.
Daniel: Okay, well, you check your schedule, I'll check mine, and we'll make a plan to go to the capitol A.S.A.P.
EJ: Sounds good. All right, hey... thank you. Just thank you for trying.
Daniel: Oh, you bet, you bet. And if you think of anything before we go, just jot it down, okay? Who knows what could jog your memory?
Eric: Yeah. Right.
Daniel: Okay, we'll be in touch.
Daniel: All right?
Brady: Maybe she did see someone. Maybe she saw something.
Eric: Yeah, but she would have told me.
Brady: Well, maybe she hasn't put it together yet. It doesn't hurt to ask her again and again.
Eric: Maybe Nicole should go too.
Marlena: [Sighs] Wow. That was close.
Nicole: Damn, woman, you took off like the devil was chasing you.
Marlena: You should not have followed me here.
Nicole: What? Why not? I almost got my head handed to me by crazy Kristen while you were working on your mysterious plan, whatever the hell it was. More important, did it work?
Marlena: I don't owe you an explanation.
Nicole: I thought we were working together.
Marlena: No. No. We are not working together.
[Knock on door]
Jennifer: JJ-- hey.
Daniel: Hey, you look surprised to see me. I thought you said I could come by this morning, unless--
Jennifer: Yeah. I'm sorry--I should have called you.
Daniel: What happened? I mean, JJ was released from police custody, right?
Jennifer: Yeah. Yeah, he was.
Daniel: Well, what's wrong? Where is he?
Kristen: Get away from me!
Kristen: Get away, you stupid dog! God.
Nicole: nee l a lash out as much as that shih tzu does. Are you kidding?
Eric: St. Luke's.
Kristen: Eric, it's Kristen. I'm sorry to bug you, but I just ran into your trusty assistant.
Kristen: Yeah, the one and only. I just want to warn you, please don't let her operate any heavy machinery today.
Eric: I'll keep an eye on the postage meter. Why?
Kristen: Well, why don't you just ask her how many mimosas she had with breakfast.
Eric: Are you saying she was drunk?
Kristen: That's an understatement. And apparently, she's a very belligerent drunk, because she just physically attacked me.
Eric: Nicole's been known to have a high tolerance.
Kristen: Since when? Are you kidding me? Ask your mother. She witnessed the whole thing. Look, I'm not trying to cause a problem here. I just want you to be warned, okay? Help her, so she doesn't hurt somebody, including herself. Bye. [Sighs] Eric, you're such a nice guy. [Gasps] Eric! The flash drive. Oh, no. If Marlena-- oh... [Sighs with relief] Thank you. Thank you. My secret's safe. [Sighs]
[Cell phone ringing]
Nicole: Um, look, I-- you asked me to distract Kristen for you. How does that not constitute working together?
Marlena: It was a moment of desperation.
Nicole: And now it's passed? Well, did you at least get what you wanted?
Marlena: No. No, I didn't.
Nicole: Well, that's too bad. Look, we both agree that Kristen is the same evil, manipulative witch that she's always been. And neither one of us want Brady to marry her, so what is the problem?
Marlena: The problem is I don't trust you.
Nicole: I don't-- I don't understand. I mean, clearly I'm on the same side as you. So why now-- this is about Eric, isn't it?
Adrienne: I am so sorry, Marge. I know the truth must have been so difficult to hear.
Marge: The truth... you have no idea what the truth is. You struck up a friendly conversation with my son so you could sneak a look at his belongings.
Adrienne: No, he dropped his bag and his little passbook. I was only trying to help.
Marge: You were only trying to help yourself worm your way back into your husband's good graces.
Adrienne: No. That's not why I came forward. I always said I wanted justice. Isn't that what you want too?
Marge: My husband is dead... dead! The only justice is if Sami Brady spends the rest of her life behind bars.
Melinda: Mr. Fallon, please describe your encounter with the defendant on may 8th of this year.
Nick: Yes, ma'am. On may 8th, I confronted ms. Brady.
Nick: I was upset because she had stolen some cash from my room.
Melinda: How much cash?
Melinda: Why would she do that?
Nick: I'm not sure.
Melinda: And what happened when you confronted ms. Brady about the stolen money?
Nick: She denied it, uh, which was a lie.
Melinda: And how-- how did you know that?
Nick: Because she returned it to me.
Melinda: So back to the night in question-- what happened after she falsely protested her innocence?
Nick: She pulled a gun from her purse, and she threatened to--to kill me.
Melinda: Does this look like the gun in question?
Melinda: This is the gun ms. Brady admitted she used to shoot detective Bernardi. So, on the night of may 8th, did you have reason to believe that she would follow through with that threat?
Nick: I did.
Melinda: And what would that reason be?
Nick: She said it wouldn't be the first time she'd shot someone.
Melinda: And it wouldn't be the last. Fighting constipation
JJ: Hey. I'm glad to see you back on the outside, man.
Rory: I'm surprised your mom let you out of your cage, man.
JJ: She didn't, but I'm 18, you know? She doesn't get to run my life anymore.
Rory: Wait. So my big performance at the station was for nothing?
JJ: [Scoffs] Nothing you said would have made her believe me. She's not happy unless she's making me miserable.
Rory: Well, dude, you can't expect her to throw you a party after you went and got-- oh, I'll shut up now.
JJ: Tell you how you can make it up to me.
JJ: Let me crash at your place.
Jennifer: So, like I said all along... thank you. You were right. I was enabling JJ. And if I had done something about it sooner, this wouldn't be happening right now.
Daniel: What happened exactly?
Jennifer: Well, Justin got the charges, um, reduced to a misdemeanor because he's a minor. But if it had been one day later...
Daniel: That's good news.
Jennifer: It's great news. And you think JJ would have come back here so grateful. But he wasn't. He was so defiant and so unrepentant about what he'd done. And then we just had a horrible fight, and he took off.
Daniel: Where's he think he's gonna go? He doesn't have a job. He has no money. I mean-- hey... he will be back he will be back, and we're gonna figure this all out together, okay? Come on. You do not have to do this alone, Jennifer. I love you so much. I don't want to see you in this kind of pain. So, please, would you please... please let me help you?
Nicole: I'm--I'm sorry that I broke Eric's heart. I'm really sorry. But clearly, he's gotten over it.
Marlena: He has. Have you?
Nicole: I told you, our relationship is strictly professional.
Marlena: Yes, I heard you say that. The thing is, working so closely together, the two of you, it can't end well... for you.
Nicole: What is that supposed to mean?
Marlena: Nicole... you have impulse-control issues.
Nicole: And you have a superiority complex.
Marlena: Oh, stop, stop, stop. Listen to me. Think about what happened today. You jumped into the fray with Kristen having very little idea, very little explanation from me about what was going on. You were so eager to be part of the drama...
Nicole: I was trying to help you. Now you're mad at me?
Marlena: I'm not angry at you. I'M... I'm wary.
Nicole: That I'm gonna... screw up your plan or... or your son's life.
Marlena: Or both.
Justin: This $30,000 sum you claim my client took from you, did it, in fact, belong to you?
Nick: No. I was going to invest it for a friend of mine, as a favor.
Justin: Oh. Where did you meet this friend?
Nick: In prison.
Melinda: Objection. This is irrelevant, your honor.
I'll allow it. But get to the point quickly, Mr. Kiriakis.
Justin: Yes, your honor. Mr. Fallon, why were you in prison?
Nick: I was convicted of kidnapping and murder. But I served my time, and I was released early for good behavior.
Justin: But you didn't exactly leave that life behind, did you? I mean, after all, you were still in touch with your old friend and lent him a helping hand. By the way, how did your friend come by such a large sum of money within weeks of being released from prison?
Nick: I don't know.
Justin: Do you suppose it might have something to do with his current arrest for drug possession?
Melinda: Objection! Calls for speculation.
Justin: I have no further questions, your honor.
You may step down, Mr. Fallon. Ms. Trask, you may call your next witness.
Melinda: Your honor, I'd like to request a recess until tomorrow afternoon.
Justin: I object. The prosecution has had plenty of time to prepare. Her request for a continuance was denied.
Agreed. Does the prosecution wish to rest, or will you call additional witnesses?
Melinda: The prosecution calls Margaret Bernardi to the stand.
Sami: I thought she wasn't gonna call Marge.
EJ: Apparently she changed her mind.
