Episode #12155 ~ Sami gets an offer for a reduced sentence at a high personal cost; Daniel and Jennifer grow closer.
Provided By Suzanne
Maxine: Dr. Jonas, why are you here?
Daniel: Well, I work here.
Maxine: No. I cleared your schedule for the photo shoot. You should be at home.
Maxine: Your profile in the magazine Salem style, it got moved up. The deadline's next week.
Daniel: Oh, nobody told me.
Jennifer: I--yes. I left a message for you last night. Didn't you get it?
Daniel: I didn't listen to it. Can we do this another time? Maybe--maybe you could use the picture you've got, and we can forget the whole thing.
JJ: Dude, what's this about a fight? The cops made a bust?
Will: Yeah, some guy went crazy. And it was actually entertaining. Oh, you know who was here last night? Theresa.
JJ: No kidding?
Will: Yeah. I haven't seen her since she got back. She was looking good.
Will: Must be a big culture shock, moving from California though.
JJ: Yeah, I bet.
Will: I hope everything works out for her.
JJ: Right, me too. Um, anyway, this fight-- you brought up Theresa after you mentioned it. It didn't have anything to do with her, did it?
Theresa: "The man arrested was seen in the company of an unidentified woman." God, just what I need.
Hope: Guess what.
Theresa: Oh, hey, hope.
Hope: Good news. Time for a break, come with me.
Theresa: No, no.
Hope: Come on, Theresa, let's go.
Theresa: Look, I get accused of being lazy.
Hope: Jennifer will understand, let's go.
Jordan: Time for your first session, Mr. Hernandez.
Rafe: Oh. What, are you gonna carry me down there yourself?
Rafe: No-- I meant to the physical therapy room.
Jordan: Mr. Hernandez, you are a very long way from being able to go to the physical therapy room.
Kate: Cream, one sugar, if memory serves.
EJ: Oh, no strychnine?
Kate: May we sit?
EJ: No, I have a meeting.
Kate: [Sighs] You threatened me last night. You threatened Rafe.
EJ: I did.
Kate: I don't like being threatened.
EJ: I don't care.
Sami: Justin, is this dress okay? I mean, is it a right color to wear?
Justin: Sami, it's a lovely outfit. Perfect for jury selection.
Melinda: Unless there is no jury selection.
Sami: What are you talking about?
Melinda: We can forget about the jury and the trial, if you accept my offer.
Jennifer: Hey, harry. I-I just remembered I have so much to take care of this morning. So you and Dr. Jonas, you can just handle this shoot on your own, all right?
Harry: Uh, ms. Horton, I'd be totally lost.
Jennifer: No, no. It's a complimentary piece. You'll be fine, you know. A highly respected doctor, his son, his very down-to-earth lifestyle.
Uh, I'm sorry. But my editors said you'd supervise this.
Jennifer: Please, you'll be fine, all right? You don't need me there. Just keep it simple and not too staged.
Anne: Really? Really, Jennifer? Bailing on your job again? Wow. Hospital administration's gonna just love hearing about this.
Jordan: Mr. Hernandez, you were severely injured, then placed into an induced coma in early may. You've had no voluntary muscle activity for three months. The examine I performed yesterday showed extreme weakness. The first steps will be to perform the simplest of resistance exercises here in the bed. After that, you'll move to a chair and probably remain there for quite some time. If things progress, then we'll move you to the P.T. Room and hope to put you on your feet.
Kate: So, obviously you have not cooled off since last night.
EJ: Well, let's just be clear about something. Last night, I wasn't hot under the collar or falling off the deep end, or in any other kind of altered state. I was being completely rational, and I meant every word I said.
Kate: So if Sami is convicted, you blame me and Rafe, and you're going to punish us?
EJ: Punish? That's an interesting euphemism. Punish, I like that. Now, if you'll excuse me.
Kate: Okay, look. I understand why you feel the way you do. You're a passionate man. You love Sami deeply. And things are not looking good. But I'm reaching out to you. Give me a chance.
Justin: If you wanna play games, Melinda--
Melinda: Why would you assume this is a game?
Justin: Is there a legitimate offer?
Melinda: Yes, one I'm sure the judge will sign off on. And ms. Brady, you would be a fool not to accept it, considering the circumstances.
Justin: All right, stop selling it and just tell us what it is.
Melinda: It's simple and generous. But there's a time limit-- now, today. Take it or it disappears.
Sami: Take what?
Melinda: Plead guilty. No trial. You only serve ten years.
Will: Here you go. I don't think Theresa was involved in the fight, but she was with this guy.
JJ: Oh, no kidding? And he gets busted for drugs?
JJ: Sounds about right, man.
Will: So how's school? You done? Are you about done?
JJ: Uh, yeah. My first final's today.
Will: Oh, cool. You ready?
JJ: Uh, I feel pretty good about it. You know, I've studied really hard f this one.
Will: Nice. What's the subject?
JJ: Economics and politics.
Will: Sounds challenging.
JJ: [Chuckles] Yeah. Gotta prove to my mom that I'm a serious student.
Will: Yeah, um--
JJ: Yeah, you know, I'm actually taking this latte to her over at the hospital. You know, I just wanna reassure her that I'm gonna get an "a", no question.
Will: Well, moms like to hear that.
JJ: Sometimes they even believe it.
Will: Yeah. So how, um, is your mom doing?
JJ: Uh-- she's, I think-- she's doing pretty good.
Will: Okay. Yeah, but is she still working with Theresa? You said she was kind of a pain or something.
JJ: Uh, no, actually, I try to stay out of the whole work thing, but she hasn't complained about it lately. So, I guess, they probably get along better now.
Will: Must have been hard yesterday.
JJ: Yeah, yeah. Just, it felt-- you know, it just felt really weird, with dad being gone a whole year. But, um, we got your note. Thank you, man. My mom really loved it.
Will: Oh, of course. I mean, I'm glad she--
JJ: Yeah. You know, the family just-- things are so much better, you know? Just closer than ever.
Jennifer: I got this, Anne.
Anne: All right, it doesn't seem that way to me.
Jennifer: You know what--
Anne: You obviously don't take your job seriously.
Jennifer: I take my job--
Anne: And frankly, Jennifer, I am so sick and tired of watching you just skip out whenever you damn well please. Okay, now this photo shoot, it should be done by now.
Maxine: Ms. Milbauer--
Anne: We have a gala. It's coming up, okay? We're gonna be honoring these doctors. And this photographer here, he has what's called a deadline for a magazine. All right, now what? You have something else you'd rather be doing?
Daniel: Anne, you're totally misunderstood. Try not to jump to the wrong conclusions every day, okay?
Anne: Excuse me?
Daniel: I'm the one with the scheduling problem. Jennifer was just trying to accommodate me.
Anne: Of course.
Daniel: Yeah, yeah. But the problem that I thought-- [Whistles] It just went away.
Daniel: Yep, just like that. So now, we are leaving to the photo shoot. Maxine, my phone will be on.
Maxine: Thank you, doctor.
Hope: Looks like you could use this.
Theresa: I do?
Hope: Yep. Because maybe you were out a little late last night with a man named Vargas?
Hope: Let's not play games.
Theresa: Excuse me. I went to the club opening last night, just because will's boyfriend owns the place.
Hope: Oh, supporting the family, are you?
Theresa: Right. Look, I met a lot of new people, okay? If I met this Vargas guy-- I mean, I can't be responsible for remembering every guy that--
Hope: Theresa, you need to stop lying, lying, lying, lying. Not tomorrow, not in an hour, but right now.
Rafe: Well, you sure did brighten my day.
Jordan: My job isn't to brighten your day. It is to get you to an improved physical state. I can't emphasize enough, Mr. Hernandez, that you have a tremendous amount of work ahead of you.
Rafe: Oh, I actually I think you did make that pretty clear. [Chuckles] Listen, since this is gonna take so long, why don't you start calling me Rafe, okay?
Jordan: I'm going to lift your arm as high as you can tolerate, to check your range of motion. And tell me when it hurts too much.
Rafe: Okay. [Winces] Okay, that's--
Jordan: Too much?
Rafe: No, no.
Jordan: Okay. Now, I want you to do it, ten times.
Kate: I'm not going to pretend that Sami and I will ever be close.
EJ: Excellent. Why would we start with a lie?
Kate: I am offering an olive branch. I understand that she did what she did to protect Rafe. She is will and Allie's mother. She is Arianna's grandmother. I don't wanna see her spend the rest of her life in jail, EJ.
EJ: Kate, what is your point?
Kate: My point is that I will do what I can to help.
EJ: What exactly is it that you think you can do?
Sami: I can't spend ten years in prison.
Melinda: People do.
Sami: I'm innocent.
Melinda: Counselor, help your client face some facts. She shot an unarmed cop in the back. She can claim she was protecting her ex-husband, but the problem is her ex-husband and the murdered cop were friends. Did I tell you that detective Hernandez will be testifying against you at trial?
Justin: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You've--we've seen your list.
Melinda: I'm just saying, he'll testify what an upstanding, honest, reliable guy detective Bernardi was. And he's not the only one the jury will listen to. There'll be your ex-mother-in-law, your son's live-in boyfriend, and, of course your own son.
Sami: You know, you are so incredibly--
Melinda: Cruel? Mean? No, ms. Brady. I'm the one who's kindly offering you a deal, and escape from life in prison. Interested?
JJ: Uh, hello. Do you know where ms. Horton is? She's not in her office.
Anne: Yeah, I know. She's doing her job for a change, first time this month.
JJ: Excuse me. Do you wanna tell me what that was supposed to mean?
Anne: Sure. See, little miss precious, she never works, if she can help it. You know, but today she got caught, so now she's actually doing what she gets paid for.
JJ: Lady, where do you get off? My mother works like crazy.
Anne: Oh, your mother. Oh, my lord. There I go again. Open mouth and insert foot firmly. I am so embarrassed. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry I talked about your mom that way.
JJ: You're not forgiven.
Anne: Whoa. Well, move over, john Wayne.
Anne: Tell me-- how's that little shoplifting thing going? I hear the big chain stores, those are, like, not the good ones to hit.
JJ: Excuse me?
Anne: Right, with all those security guards waiting around to nail you? Better to pilfer the little mom-and-pop place, right? I mean, I'd imagine. Uh-uh-uh, wait, wait, I'm sorry. You are JJ Devereaux, aren't you? Juvenile delinquent extraordinaire?
JJ: Mm. Oh. And you're Anne Milbauer-- nasty bitch extraordinaire, who's always trying to ruin things for my mom. Well, guess what, sweetheart. It stops now.
Jennifer: Oh, good, did you get that smile? That was great. Okay. Okay, maybe just two more of that.
Jennifer: Perfect, perfect. Okay, I think we got it.
Daniel: Yeah? All right. Well, I think my little man's done for now. I do. All right, I'll tell you what. You ready for that little playdate with Billy?
Elevator down. Yes, you are. Elevator down.
Press the button. There we go.
Daniel: All right. You wait right here for Joanna, okay? Wait right here.
Daniel: There's your buddy, right there, the triceratops. I gotta go get her over here.
Jennifer: Yeah, and, um--
Jennifer: Okay, and then can you set up the work shot, harry?
Jennifer: Okay. Hey. Hey, little tiny man. Guess what. You did so, so great. You know that?
Jennifer: And these toys that you are playing with, you get to keep them. Whatever, yes. And you can probably take them to Billy's house.
Parker: Billy's house?
Jennifer: Yes, you can take them with you. And you know what? When I was picking these out for you, I was thinking about you so much because I have missed you so much. Yes, I have missed seeing this face. I have missed seeing these eyes and this nose and these teeth and these ears and these knees and these shoes and your toys and everything. I have missed all of you.
Parker: Aah, no!
Jennifer: Yes, I have.
EJ: Were you there to witness Bernardi picking up that razor?
Kate: No, of course I wasn't. No one was.
EJ: Do you think that you could convince my father to admit that he sent Bernardi to mutilate Rafe.
Kate: EJ, I tried.
EJ: Trying? No, unfortunately trying doesn't do us anything, Kate. My father is pathological when it comes to his ex-wives, and you knew that. And you should not have told him about Rafe. You should've kept your mouth shut.
Kate: No one is sorrier about that than I am. But I'm being sincere. I will do what I can, anything I can to help.
EJ: I think you've done enough. You gave my father a motive and Samantha a gun. I don't think she needs any of your help, Kate.
Jordan: And ten. Can you go higher?
[Knock at door]
Jordan: Okay, that's fine. All right. Why don't we take a break for now?
Jordan: And I'll come back later. We'll work on your legs.
Rafe: Can't wait.
Jordan: Excuse me.
Abe: Oh, certainly. Well, you're working hard.
Rafe: Yeah, that was amazing. You should've seen it. First I lifted this arm, and then that one. Literally, like, three inches off the bed, ten times. Don't really wanna talk about it anymore. How's Sami's case?
Abe: Well, they're starting jury selection today.
Rafe: Yeah, I gotta tell you, I'm having a hard time believing they're gonna find 12 people who haven't already formulated an opinion.
Abe: Yeah, it could be hard.
Rafe: Yeah. I read in the paper that the trial's closed.
Abe: Yeah, well, that way the jurors don't have to see a courtroom packed with uniformed officers every day.
Rafe: Oh, yeah. That's a good idea-- I think. What's your take on it? You think Sami even stands a chance?
Sami: You seem so smug about all the people that I care about that you are going to make testify against me. You know they're gonna do everything they can to help me.
Melinda: I've handled hostile witnesses before.
Justin: Oh, yeah, piece of cake.
Melinda: Well, I may not have to work hard with Kate Roberts. What do you think, ms. Brady?
Justin: Melinda, if it were a slam dunk, you wouldn't be making an offer.
Melinda: Of course I would. It's standard procedure. I am a civil servant who is doing her job.
Justin: Oh, and trying to save the city money, because long trials break budgets. Blah, blah, blah, blah.
Melinda: Okay. So the deal's ten years. Oh, gosh. I almost forgot. I want something else, besides a guilty plea.
Melinda: I want Stefano DiMera. @@@@@@
Anne: Where the hell do you get off, talking to me like that?
JJ: What? How about how you just talked to me?
Anne: All right, how about-- how about you just go hone your stealing skills, okay? 'Cause I don't have time for this.
JJ: Oh, what? You don't like the truth? You want my mom's job, so you bad-mouth her every chance you get.
Anne: Your mom is lazy and entitled. This is common knowledge around here, okay? She earned a reputation all by herself.
JJ: Excuse me. My mom is a hardworking, nice person--too nice, obviously, to turn you in to the hospital administrator.
JJ: Don't think that I won't.
Anne: Oh, really? As though anyone is gonna listen to a little criminal like you. Please.
JJ: [Exhales] What the hell? That woman is the meanest person on the planet.
Maxine: Yeah, she's up there all right.
JJ: I shouldn't have lost it with her. I don't wanna screw anything up for my mom.
Maxine: JJ, you're fine. The only way to handle Anne Milbauer is to make her pay a price for that mouth. I'm glad you stood up to her.
JJ: Yeah, well, I should probably warn my mom.
JJ: Hey, mom. Um, look, I gotta warn you. I came by the hospital to see you, and I ran into that Anne Milbauer woman.
Jennifer: Oh, lucky you.
JJ: Yeah, um, listen. She said some things about you, so I really let her have it. Just be ready next time you see her, okay?
Jennifer: Yes, I will. Thank you for sticking up for me, honey. But you know what? I can handle an on my own. I wish I was there. Hey, what time's your final?
JJ: Uh, not till 2:00. Where are you?
Jennifer: Oh, uh, I'm just out of the office, you know, for an hour or so. Just strictly business, nothing important. But, uh, I'll talk to you later, JJ, okay? Buh-bye.
Theresa: Vargas blamed me?
Hope: Mm-hmm. He's an ex-con who doesn't wanna go back inside. Oh, and I left out some of the choice words he used to describe you.
Theresa: Well, I hope you set him straight.
Theresa: What-- oh, come on. Look, he was drunk. He tore up the place, punched a cop and a bunch of other guys, and then got caught with a pile of coke. How am I to blame?
Theresa: Oh, my gosh. Seriously, you think it's my fault? Fine, go ahead. You know what? I know my rights. And you can't connect me with anything that happened last night. That guy's a total creep, okay? He's bad news.
Hope: You know your rights?
Theresa: No, aunt hope, I didn't start that fight, okay? I didn't take any drugs. You wanna test? Test me. I'm innocent.
Hope: Does this remind you of anything? Anything at all?
Hope: I know what happened in los Angeles. And now you're giving a repeat performance.
Theresa: [Scoffs] Can we, like, talk about the weather or something?
Hope: No, we can't talk about the weather. We're gonna talk about you self-destructing, again.
Abe: Well, I have to admit, no weapon, no evidence, that Bernardi is dirty.
Rafe: They can't find any connection to Stefano?
Abe: No, and with this video of Sami attacking Bernardi, the defense is in awful position.
Kate: Good morning.
Abe: Well, good morning, good morning. You know what? I'm gonna have to take off, but everyone down at the force is thinking about you. They're wishing you well. All right, you take care.
Kate: See you later.
Rafe: You too.
Kate: So, how are you feeling?
Rafe: Lousy. Sami's case is so damn weak. If she doesn't catch a break, she's going down.
Kate: Okay. Well, we know there's nothing that we can do about that.
Rafe: Well, there is something we can do. There's always something. We just need to find a way to help her.
EJ: Good morning, Mr. Stoller. I trust you have good news.
Stoller: I, uh-- I managed to get over 100,000 into the bank account of timothy Bernardi, using different deposit dates.
EJ: Now these deposits, they precede the detective's death?
EJ: And there is no way for anybody to work out how they got there?
Stoller: You'd have to be a genius, and very lucky.
EJ: Mr. Stoller, you may just have saved the woman I love.
Justin: So let me ask you, Melinda, how is my client supposed to accept a deal in which she's required to somehow hand over Stefano DiMera?
Sami: It's not like he texts me his latest location, okay? I have no idea where he is. In fact, I am here because of him.
Melinda: Stefano DiMera has been at the top of my list since the day I took this job.
Justin: He topped a list of all your predecessors too, for decades.
Melinda: Yes, but none of them have my leverage. You see, the best way to get to Stefano DiMera is for ms. Brady to give me his son.
Sami: Excuse me?
Melinda: Just give me EJ. I'll do the rest.
Sami: You expect me to betray EJ? It's a new era...
Daniel: All right, well, that should do it, right? I mean--
Jennifer: No. No, no, no. We need a few more, please.
Jennifer: Yes, really.
Daniel: Okay, sure. No, fine. No, it's fine, sure. Yeah, I'm just not that comfortable with being photographed.
Jennifer: Really? I never would've noticed.
Daniel: Sorry, don't mean to be difficult.
Jennifer: You'll be done very soon.
Harry: Aah. I left the other lens in my car.
Daniel: Well, there you go. That's great. That's a wrap.
Jennifer: No, you don't move. You stay right there. Sit back down. I will go get your lens. I'll be right back. You can set up for the other shots.
Daniel: Okay, do you mind if I just read this?
Jennifer: What-- uh, it's fine. It's just notes for the article.
Daniel: Oh, just need a little distraction, that's all.
Jennifer: Yeah, knock yourself out.
Daniel: Maxine wrote a little blurb about me?
Kate: So, has your physical therapist been in?
Rafe: Yeah, she has. And she'll be back later. But let's talk about the night that Sami shot Bernardi.
Kate: Okay, let's not. Because you really need to stay calm, so--
Rafe: I'm kind of sick of staying calm, actually. I wanna find out some answers--
Will: Hey. Hey, what's up?
Kate: Hi, sweetie.
Will: Hey. Brought another picture of Ari for you.
Rafe: Well, let me see that thing then. Well, look at that. She does get cuter by the day, doesn't she?
Will: Yep. Hey, sorry. I probably should've knocked first or something.
Kate: No, no problem.
Rafe: That's fine. Kate and I were just talking about the night that Sami shot Bernardi.
Kate: Yes, and I was trying to explain to Rafe that he needs to keep the stress at a minimum. And hope and Abe and roman have gone over all the evidence, so--
Rafe: Yeah, but I haven't. So, let's talk about it. From the beginning, shall we?
Sami: Well, in case you've forgotten, I love EJ. We're going to get married.
Melinda: Not unless the warden grants permission.
Justin: Melinda, get serious.
Melinda: I am. I've done my homework, ms. Brady. You and EJ have, shall we say, a checkered past. You've done much worse to him that a simple setup. And it's a well-known fact that your fiancé goes into a rage at the mere mention of his father. You give me EJ, he'll give me daddy.
Sami: Go to hell.
Melinda: I expected you to say that. You need time to process. But I won't wait forever. Think about your children. No mother for ten years, or for their entire lives? They'd still be young when you got out. And I'd make sure the state allowed for very generous visitation rights. Talk it over with Justin. He's a good attorney. He'll advise you. It's an excellent offer.
Stoller: You're obviously going to great lengths to, uh, help your fiancée. I hope she's grateful.
EJ: Oh, she is. Well, she will be. She loves me every bit as much as I love her.
Sami: The idea of betraying EJ, setting him up, I mean, it's crazy, right?
Justin: Let me put it this way-- it's the best offer, probably the only offer, you're gonna get. Te: Thanks, mom.
Daniel: Wow. One of these days, I'm gonna have to write something about you, Maxine. "From anonymous." Oh, boy. "Dr. Jonas deserves this honor for any number of reasons. He's an extremely talented surgeon who saved countless lives. But just as important to me is the fact that he exhibits a warmth and caring for his patients that is unmatched. On a personal note, I can tell you that in 2011, he performed a difficult and dangerous heart operation on me."
Jennifer: Then this last fall, my appendix burst and he operated on me in a remote location, using only basic tools he could find at the scene. I work with a great many doctors, and they are all fine individuals. But Dr. Jonas is so capable, so caring, and so compassionate that he not only saved my life, he changed it.
Joyce: I'm hoping the photographer makes him take off his shirt.
Maxine: You did not just say that.
Joyce: What? The guy's obviously in great shape.
Maxine: And you would know that how?
Joyce: Fine. I'm just guessing. That's why I wouldn't mind a little proof.
Maxine: The guy is a highly respected surgeon.
Joyce: So? Surgeons don't take their shirts off?
Maxine: Oh, Joyce, please, give it a rest. Dr. Jonas would never allow that.
Joyce: Yeah, but think of the magazines they'd sell.
Maxine: You do realize that Dr. Jonas is taken, don't you?
Joyce: I thought that "dannifer" thing was off again.
Joyce: Yeah, you never heard that? It's what everyone around here calls them.
Maxine: [Chuckles] Oh, I get it. You mean like "brangelina" or "kattom," right?
Joyce: [Laughs] It's "tomkat," and that's over.
Maxine: Oh, really? Well, forgive me for not being up on the celebrity romance or those silly, idiotic, combined names. And by the way, I think it's kind of shameless that everyone around here has nothing better to do than gossip about the personal lives of the staff.
Joyce: Oh, lighten up, Maxine.
Maxine: No. No, I will not lighten up, not about this. Dr. Jonas and Jennifer don't need you all whispering behind their backs. And FYI, I know Dr. Jonas pretty well. And he's so in love with Jennifer, trust me, it will never be off. Not if he has anything to say about it. In fact, I think this photo shoot at the apartment today might be just what they need to fix things.
Jennifer: Harry, this is the lens. But I think that you really did such a fantastic job. So if you just wanna use that for a special effect, or--
Harry: Um, I changed my mind, so we're good. If you could just sign.
Jennifer: Oh, great. Yeah, that was really good. Okay, um, thank you again.
Harry: You're welcome.
Jennifer: And this was wonderful. You know where to get a hold of me...
Harry: I do.
Jennifer: If there are any problems. Have a great day.
Harry: Oh, thanks.
Jennifer: Okay. Well, that's that. And now I will get out of here and get back to work. Thank you so much for doing that.
Daniel: Jennifer, wait.
Hope: You were arrested in L.A. Six times.
Theresa: No, no, no. Two, minor stuff.
Hope: Theresa, stop. Stop lying. Would you stop lying, okay? Because the LAPD emailed me your rap sheet.
Theresa: Oh, my God.
Hope: "Stolen car, dui, fighting, possession of drug paraphernalia." Oh, and last, but certainly not least--let me get to that. "Possession of cocaine." Do you have any idea how lucky you are to be sitting where you are, and not in prison? Fortunately, your parents and your lawyer convinced the judge to give you probation, providing that you moved here to Salem, you let us help you, and you cleaned up your act. So, how's that working out, do you think?
Hope: Theresa, honey, you have a huge family that loves you.
Hope: Everyone is really worried about you. Look at me, please. As am I, because clearly it is starting all over again.
Theresa: And you can prove that how?
Hope: What do you think about possibly going to rehab?
Theresa: Oh, my God, no. Okay, that's it. I have a job to do, okay?
Hope: Fine. Be very good at that job, Theresa. It's your last chance.
Rafe: So what are we talking? 10, 12 people?
Kate: Well, I mean, we could ask Kayla for a head count on the doctors and the nurses. But there were two security guards. There were two orderlies. And it was chaos.
Rafe: Oh, chaos, yes. The perfect cover when a weapon disappears.
Will: The main thing to remember though, is that mom, obviously, would not have used a gun if she didn't see Bernardi with a razor.
Rafe: Oh, of course not.
Kate: I think we're just going to have to hope for an impartial jury.
Rafe: Uh-oh. Looks like my next torture session's about to begin.
Kate: That means you and I have to go.
Rafe: Yes. Thanks for the picture, will.
Will: You bet. Okay.
Whoa. I just hit the mother lode.
Sami: Okay, so, just be honest with me. I mean, is my case completely 100% hopeless?
Justin: It's not good. I mean, we'll put character witnesses on the stand. We'll dispute the forensics, things like that.
Sami: In other words, yes?
Sami: Okay. So, um-- so what's your advice?
Justin: We won't do better than this deal. And it could be much worse.
EJ: Is everything all right?
Justin: Everything's fine.
Sami: Yeah, it's fine. I'm just, you know, stressed out.
EJ: Look, Samantha, I know things seem bleak right now. But I'm actually feeling better about things than I did.
EJ: Well, I just-- I have good feeling.
Justin: Well, let's hope you still have that good feeling after we pick the jury.
Sami: I don't. I don't have a good feeling, EJ. I feel hopeless. I feel like if I go to trial, I'm gonna spend the rest of my life behind bars.
EJ: What do you mean? I'm sorry, Samantha. If? If you go to trial?
Jordan: Excuse me, sir. This patient needs time alone. Please, leave.
You bet. But first, William Horton, Katherine Roberts, Rafael Hernandez, you have been served.
Rafe: What the hell?
Jordan: What's going on?
Will: Uh, I've been subpoenaed to testify against mom.
Kate: Yeah, we all have.
Daniel: "A man of deep compassion with a heart that knows no bounds. Simply put, to know him is to love him."
Daniel: "Congratulations, Dr. Daniel Jonas."
Jennifer: You got me. I just wrote the truth.
Daniel: That anybody can read, maybe even, oh, JJ?
Jennifer: No, because I-I put "anonymous."
Daniel: Okay, Jenn. Heart operation? Appendix removal on smith land? He won't know that?
Jennifer: But you're expecting that he would be--
Daniel: Can you just-- [Shushes] Just, please, let me finish. Okay, forget all that for now. 'Cause this, right here, is you, from the heart. And what it says to me, what it says to anybody who reads it is that you love this guy. And this guy is me.
Daniel: Jenn, just--
Jennifer: I, um-- sorry, go ahead.
Daniel: No, it's okay. Look, the gala is gonna be only in a couple days. And this could be read aloud at that event. Look, or not. Okay, or not. But here's the thing. I have got two tickets sent to me in the mail. They expect me to go this party with a date. Now I don't know what you think. But I think it would be a terrific opportunity.
Jennifer: For what?
Daniel: Us. You have a few days to talk to JJ. Tell him what's going on, then you can be my date.
Jennifer: Your date?
Daniel: My date, in public. Us, together, starting over.
Jennifer: Daniel, I am telling you, I just--
Daniel: Just--it would mean the world to me. I think about you all the time. I want you with me all day, all night, all-- I don't even know how else to tell you this, but I love you, Jennifer. And I want the world to know it. So I take that as a yes?
