JJ: Where have you been?
Jennifer: [Exhales] JJ!
JJ: Hey, Mom.
JJ: [Chuckles] It's good to see you.
Jennifer: Oh, my gosh, what? It is so good to see you. Let me look at you. [Gasps] Oh, my gosh, this is so wonderful, but it's three weeks till your semester's over. Why aren't you at school?
Nick: We shouldn't be seen together, Vargas.
Vargas: Why not? Mamacita knows we're old buddies. No reason we can't meet for a latte.
Nick: It's not smart. All right, you don't want people asking questions about what we're doing.
Vargas: Well, I've got a lot of questions. How's my money doing, Nicky?
Nick: [Sighs] Come on. Where could it be? $30,000 just doesn't disappear. [Exhales]
Gabi: This is--
Will: Yeah, it's--it's a dashboard. And so what you do, you put it on a car seat. And then, when you're driving, she can drive. See, it's got a-a steering wheel obviously and a little gear shift and a turn signal and a horn, uh, that's actually really realistic, by the way. I'd watch out--
Gabi: You know, she's not gonna be able to even operate this thing until she's at least a year old.
Will: Yeah, I know, I know. But, I mean, they--they told me it was a limited edition. And it was--it was so great a deal, I couldn't miss out on it. So...
Gabi: Are you worried that you're not gonna be around when she's a year old? Is that it?
Gabi: Nick's not gonna keep you away.
Will: No, he won't.
Gabi: Wow, you're starting to believe it. Well, what's changed?
Sami: Um, so Stefano sent me. You know, he said you have some things for me?
Bernardi: Things? I-I don't know what you're talking about. I...
Sami: The evidence. He said he wants you to give it to me. Stefano wants me to bring it back to the house.
Bernardi: Uh, sorry, Ms. Brady, I have no idea what you're talking about. What evidence?
Brady: Hey, do you know where Kristen is? Have you seen her anywhere?
EJ: No, I just walked through the door. I haven't seen anybody.
Brady: Dude, your--your dad said that she came home. And now, he has no idea where she is.
EJ: Oh, the mystery deepens.
Brady: EJ, look. I need to find her. Her car's in the driveway. She's gotta be here. Do you have any idea where she might be?
Kristen: What are you doing here?
John: Well, I think it's time that you and I finish what we started, don't you?
JJ: All of my exams were take-home essays. [Sighs] I knocked those out early, so there was no reason to hang around. I ditched London, and I came home to surprise you.
Jennifer: Well, you did. I'm so surprised. But your teachers are okay, right?
JJ: Of course. Don't worry. Maybe I'm the one who should be worried.
Jennifer: What--what do you mean?
JJ: It's just not your usual look, Mom. What have you been up to?
Brady: Damn it.
EJ: Kristen isn't answering?
Brady: It's going straight to voice mail.
EJ: My goodness, you seemed even more unhinged than usual. Please don't tell me there's trouble in paradise.
Brady: Stop smirking, all right? Everything's fine.
EJ: Oh, no, I'm sure it is. I-I mean, I really hope my sister hasn't come to her senses and done a runner.
Brady: [Chuckles] You're hilarious.
EJ: Wedding is still on then, right?
Brady: Yes, it's still on. Everything's on.
EJ: Okay. Splendid. Can't wait.
Kristen: What? I don't want to play.
John: It's not a game.
Kristen: How the hell did you get in here?
John: Oh, everybody's got a price. And this didn't come cheap.
Kristen: Yeah, well, whoever sold you that key, are they aware of what could happen to them if my father found out? I mean, really?
Kristen: You need to leave. Security's gonna be by making their rounds. And as much as I'd love to see you hauled outta here...
John: It's not gonna happen. No, security won't be down here for about an hour and 58 minutes.
John: Yeah, that's right, I also have a schedule for everybody who works in this mausoleum, so we've got plenty of time. And once I saw you come down to this room, I--
Kristen: You were spying on me?
John: Mm. Here we are.
Kristen: I really want to be alone. Please get out.
John: Is that what you really want?
Kristen: Yes, that's what I really, really want. You don't get it? This is over between us, John. I'm done. I'm finally, finally done.
Sami: No, no. Stefano wants me to take this, okay? He sent me.
Bernardi: I don't understand why you keep--
Sami: Can you please understand that Stefano DiMera does not wanna be seen with you in public? So he sent me to get the evidence so that I can bring it into the house without suspicion.
Bernardi: I don't know what "it" you're talking about.
Sami: The evidence. It's in your backpack.
Bernardi: Ma'am, all due respect, you're nuts. I don't know Stefano DiMera. I work for the Salem P.D. And your dad. I'd never do anything for criminal scum like DiMera.
Jennifer: Well, I think you must be the only boy that comes back from England more rude. What, you don't like my outfit?
JJ: No. It's good. You just look a little frazzled.
Jennifer: I just--I have just a lot going on these days, you know?
JJ: You mean the I'm-out-no-I'm-in thing with your job? I bet that was hard. Is that Anne woman still dogging you?
Jennifer: Oh, Anne. You know, she tries, but I think I have her backed off for a while. But, you know, it--it's not just my job. It is something else. And when I was talking to you on the phone last, you know, you were in a rush. So I'm not really sure if I was clear.
JJ: Clear about what?
Jennifer: About how important it's become. And it's kind of a big deal, so I-I just hope that when I tell you what--
Abigail: Um, hi, squirt. [Laughs] Oh, my gosh! I can't believe that you're home. Why didn't you text me?
JJ: Can't breathe.
Abigail: Well, you're home. Deal with it. [Whispers] Oh, my God. Oh!
Vargas: What's going on with my money?
Nick: I am trying to build up your capital. Like I said, it's gonna take time to find the right opportunities.
Vargas: But you're on it.
Vargas: Now, that wasn't so hard, was it? Look, I realize that you're not a magician. I just wanna know that it's a priority. And I haven't been feeling reassured lately. How come I get the feeling that there's something you're not telling me here?
Nick: Because there is.
Gabi: [Exhales] You're excited about Arianna in a way that I've never seen before.
Will: Well, I-I mean, it's just getting closer. D-does it feel real to you, or since she's been kicking you for months, it's probably always felt real.
Gabi: Yeah, it's a little different. I mean, I-I just--we're getting so close to meeting her.
Gabi: And please don't be worried about being in her life because you are gonna be in her life because that's what I want. And Nick is not gonna keep you away.
Will: I know. I know that. Everything is gonna work out fine.
Sami: Bernardi, wait up! Seriously, you have to just give me a chance. Come on, we need to talk. I swear to God, you are... hey, look, you do not wanna tick off Stefano DiMera.
Bernardi: Lady, I'm trying to be nice, okay, out of respect for the commissioner, but let--
Sami: If you don't give me that evidence, Stefano is gonna come asking you why.
Bernardi: I don't know st--
Sami: Okay, you think I'm wearing a mic? Is that what this is about? 'Cause this is not a trick.
Bernardi: For the last time, I'm telling you right now--
Sami: You met Stefano here. I know you did. You met in this exact spot, and he instructed you to get that evidence. I know because I was here. I saw the whole thing.
Bernardi: Okay, if that's true, then you heard I'm supposed to bring the evidence straight to him, no cutouts.
Sami: The plan changed. What are you doing?
Bernardi: Calling Mr. DiMera.
Jennifer: I'm gonna go upstairs and change. That's what I'm gonna do. And I'll be right back.
Abigail: And get out of here, so I can have time with my brother.
Abigail: [Sighs] So you look really good, little bro...
JJ: Thank you.
Abigail: Much better than the last time I saw you.
JJ: Yeah. Dad's funeral? [Stammers] [Exhales] I don't remember what anything looked like that week. It's a total blur.
JJ: Well, a lot's changed since then.
Abigail: Yes, it has. So why are you home early?
JJ: [Clears throat] I had take-home exams, and I finished early. What?
Abigail: [Laughs] Don't even. What's really going on?
Gabi: Naps are easy as long as miss Ari wants to rest too. It's the cravings.
Will: Hmm. All right, weirdest combo. Go.
Gabi: Tamales and cookie dough frozen yogurt.
Will: You didn't eat that together.
Will: No, nobody would sell you that at the same time even if they could.
Gabi: Well, hold on. Nick went to bank street and got me the tamales. And then, he went to the Horton town square and got the frozen yogurt. So yes.
Will: Gross. So he looks out for you?
Will: So you two are happy?
Gabi: Sure. For the most part, everything's great.
Will: For the most part.
Gabi: Well, you know... [Clears throat] Nick's just stressed at work. I mean, he can deal. It's not a big thing. Now, I'm late to go meet up with him. Let's get outta here. I'll walk you to the door. I gotta grab my purse, okay?
Will: Okay. [Exhales]
Sami: Stefano is in a very important meeting, okay? And he does not want to be disturbed.
Bernardi: Jeez, lady.
Bernardi: Look. I know Stefano didn't send you. And I don't know what your angle is, but this is suicide for you. You don't mess with the DiMeras.
Sami: No, wait, wait, please. Please. Listen to me. I can make this worth your while.
Daniel: Okay, what's up?
Maggie: Oh, I hate to ask you a favor when you're so busy.
Daniel: No, no, no, for you. Come on. Anything for you.
Maggie: Um, you're the only man who can do this job. It's about Brady. You know, he's not speaking to most of his family because of Kristen.
Daniel: Yeah, I know.
Maggie: Well, it--you know, it's a lot of stress for someone in recovery. I'm worried about him slipping. [Exhales] You know, he's convinced himself that he can have a couple of drinks with Kristen and it's not a problem for him.
Daniel: Well, you're his sponsor. Talk to him.
Maggie: I would if I thought he could hear it. He knows I don't approve of the drinks and of Kristen.
Daniel: And you want me to talk to him.
Maggie: Mm, well, you know, check in with him, make sure he's coping with everything. You know, since he's gotten involved with Kristen, he's be--
Daniel: You know, I don't think Kristen is the problem.
Kristen: Why are you still here?
John: Oh, you know why. Too much between us, Kristen. You can't just say that it's over and make it so.
Kristen: No, I can say that. That's what I'm saying. Your ego is so huge, I can't--
John: I'm wrong? I don't know what you want?
Kristen: No, you don't know what I want. You don't know what I'm feeling.
John: Okay, then. Why don't you tell me?
Kristen: I want to be free of the past. I want to get rid of these strings that are attached to my neck and pulling me backwards and making me feel controlled. And I'm wallowing constantly in what I've lost in my life.
John: And that's why you came down here?
Kristen: Your son is so wonderful, and he's so loving. He's such a beautiful human being. He deserves only the best from the people around him. What's happening between you and me is not fair to him, and that's why it has to end.
John: What ends? What are you trying to say?
Kristen: I just wanna make it clean, okay? I wanna make things right. I-I want it to be clean.
Kristen: And... I want... what I've been dreaming about... for years.
JJ: Nothing is going on.
Abigail: "Nothing's going on." Seriously? You're gonna try that with me?
JJ: Abs, I just got home, and I'm really jet-lagged. So can I please get a one-day reprieve on this big sister thing?
Abigail: Fine, one day. One.
JJ: Thanks. [Laughs] So... Cameron.
Abigail: Yes, Cameron.
Abigail: Oh, my God, JJ, I can't wait for you to meet him. He is such a good guy, yes.
JJ: All right. Good. You deserve that.
Abigail: We all do. You, me, and Mom. JJ, things are getting better, not just for me and Cameron, but for Mom too. She's really happy with Daniel.
Nick: Uh, no, thanks. Thank you. Look, I'm getting squeezed from every direction, all right? I've got a witch of a control freak boss who expects 18-hour days. I've got a wife. I've got a baby that's due.
Vargas: None of this is my problem.
Nick: Well, it will be if you push me. I want to make good decisions with your money.
Vargas: Smart boy.
Nick: Yeah, well, that takes a clear head and a little oxygen. So give me some time, please. It'll be worth your while.
Vargas: Okay, fine. But not too long, Nicky, all right? I am not a patient man, and I hate excuses.
Gabi: Is everything okay?
Will: Hey, any news?
EJ: Uh, not yet, no.
Will: Okay. I kinda thought that Stefano's guy was gonna get the evidence, like, really soon. That's what Mom said.
EJ: Well, look. I'm meeting your mother here. So why don't you wait? And then, we'll find out more when she gets here.
Will: Okay, thanks. [Exhales]
EJ: Hey. Relax, okay? We're going to make sure this turns out all right.
Will: I know. [Exhales]
EJ: Your mother's told me you're worried.
Will: Well, of course I'm worried. My mom is handling it.
EJ: She is handling it.
Will: Yeah, well, I still feel better now that you're involved.
EJ: Always. It was good of you to let your mother take care of this for you, you know? To let her know that you trust her...at least enough to allow her the chance to make it up.
Will: Yeah. Kinda like you're doing with Stefano?
EJ: [Exhales] I wouldn't compare your mother to my father.
Will: Oh, no, no. Not--not even when I was the most angry with her. Uh, you know, now that I think about it, though, there are definitely some similarities.
EJ: Yeah. Could you do me a small favor? If you ever decide to mention that to your mother, just give me a heads up, so I can get a head start out the door.
Will: No, I'm--I'm kinda being serious, though. I mean, I-I never thought I could trust Mom. And--and I definitely never thought I could trust Stefano. But, I mean, he's coming through for me, right? And so is Mom.
Sami: Okay, look. Look, it's $30,000. You give me that backpack, and it is all yours.
Bernardi: Yeah, I'd be dead before I could spend a dime.
Sami: This is important, Joe. You have no idea how important this is to me. I need that evidence.
Bernardi: You think I'm gonna double-cross Stefano DiMera? Really?
Sami: Give it to me. Just say you were robbed, okay?
Bernardi: No, forget about it!
Sami: Just give me the stupid backpack! Give it! [Groaning]
Bernardi: Oh, you crazy--
Sami: Oh, you think I'm crazy? You wait and call the cops, see how they feel about this. [Groans] Ow! Ah! Oh, you are gonna be sorry you crossed me. [Panting]
Brady: Where the hell is she?
Daniel: Hey, you got a minute?
Brady: Daniel, bad time. Bad--no, I don't.
Daniel: Well, make time. This is important.
John: And what does your happy ending look like?
Kristen: Do you recognize any of the things down here, John?
John: Should I?
Kristen: Yeah. They were from our wedding. Oh, here's the veil. Yep. The candle. They've all been down here just gathering dust for the last 15 years. Hmm. My mother wore this on her wedding day. I was supposed to wear it on mine... but I never did.
John: What about when you married Tony?
Kristen: No. That wasn't a real marriage. I was saving this for the right marriage for the right man. It was supposed to be you.
John: Gonna wear it when you marry Brady?
Kristen: No. I'm gonna wear this.
Kristen: Jennifer lent it to me. It's supposed to... symbolize new beginnings.
John: Well, it's something borrowed.
Kristen: And it's blue. It's kind of weird. You know, it reminded me of all of the stuff down here... all the things that never happened for me, all the things I missed.
John: Mm-hmm. Everything that you just said you wanted to be free from.
Kristen: I did say that, didn't I? Maybe the past hasn't let go of me after all. I mean... maybe it never will.
Abigail: Daniel's a really good guy, JJ. You're gonna like him. Trust me.
JJ: Good. [Laughs] So are you gonna show me around town or what? Where do you hang now?
Abigail: Well, uh, we--
Jennifer: Um, excuse me. Honey, can you give JJ and me a minute? I just wanted to talk to him alone.
Vargas: Well, you two have a good afternoon.
Gabi: That guy is so creepy. I don't think I like you talking to him.
Nick: Yeah, he's-- he's just trying to get settled on the outside. It's--it's hard for a lot of guys.
Gabi: For good reason.
Nick: Yeah. It's a small town, though. I'm gonna see him around.
Gabi: Uh, please, for--for me and Arianna, could you just try to stay away from him?
Nick: Yeah. I'll do what I can.
Will: Do you remember the first time that you saw Johnny?
EJ: [Laughs] Every second. Yeah. You know, there was considerable effort expended to keep me away from Johnny when he was born...
EJ: But when I finally had the chance, your mother, she took him, and she put him in my arms. And it was like the entire room just melted away. The only thing I could hear was his breathing. And I looked down, and he had these tiny, little ears and these--these tiny fingertips. And I knew what mattered, what my job was, and that was just to keep him safe. And from that minute...
Will: You were a dad.
Will: Were you, like, scared at all, or...
EJ: At the time? No, I was enthralled. My goodness. Ten minutes later, I was terrified.
EJ: You know, I didn't know how to be a good father. Please, I didn't know how to be a good anything, really.
Will: But you were, you know? You--you became a great dad.
EJ: Thank you.
EJ: You should take heart in that. I had a lot further to go to get to that point than you do.
Will: Ah, you don't know that.
EJ: I do. You're a great brother.
EJ: You'll be a fantastic father. You will love your daughter just the way Samantha loves you. She'll do anything for you. You know that.
Will: You are selling her hard today.
EJ: She loves fiercely, William, which has its hazards.
EJ: You could do a lot worse in a parent.
Will: Yeah, maybe. Let's just hope I'm not too much like Mom, though. [Exhales]
Will: Hey, hey.
Will: Is it--is it done? Did--did Stefano get the evidence? Is it destroyed?
Sami: [Exhales] Um...
Brady: Daniel, what's going on?
Daniel: I am concerned about you, man.
Brady: Me? I'm fine, I'm fine. I'm just in the middle of some--
Daniel: Okay, and I am not the only one. When I saw you earlier at the square today, I was already worried, but now, what? Come on, what's up, man? What's up?
Brady: What? What?
Daniel: What is it? Is it stress? Is the family coming down on you, what is it?
Brady: What is--what is this? Is this Maggie having you check up on me? Is that what this is?
Daniel: I already told you I was gonna talk--
Brady: And then, she pushed you towards this little mini-intervention? Listen, I'm not using drugs--
Daniel: Okay, don't be mad at her for caring about you.
Brady: I'm not, I'm not.
Daniel: No, you've been walking around all day mad.
Brady: Maybe I have a right to be mad right now.
Daniel: Do you? Even if you have a right...
Brady: Well, let me tell you something about my dad, okay? I just want to say this. He's running around town trying to break up my relationship with Kristen, all right? You don't even know about the damage he's already done. If he tries it again, he's gonna pay.
John: I know what you mean.
Kristen: Do you?
John: Kinda sneaks up on you, doesn't it? Moving forward with your life, everything's going fine. All is forgotten. And then, all of a sudden, you find something. It could be a box of pictures, an old jersey, just some piece of a good time, and then all those memories just come flooding back.
Kristen: John. This is the room I kept Marlena prisoner in. I mean, who knows how long I would've kept her here after we were supposed to be married? I mean, that's--that's how far it went with me. So do you really think you can just find some stupid little league jersey? It's all gonna be wiped away.
John: No, because that's not the way it is.
JJ: Is something wrong?
Jennifer: Yeah. I emailed your school to find out why they didn't tell me you were coming home early. And their reply was really puzzling.
JJ: [Laughs] Don't be mad at them, Mom. I told them that I wanted to surprise you.
Jennifer: Uh-huh. Is there something else that you wanna tell me?
Sami: Well, I haven't heard anything yet. But, I mean, there's no reason to worry. Hey, will, this is Stefano DiMera we're talking about. He--he gets what he wants, all right? It's gonna happen.
Will: So...soon maybe?
Sami: Very, very soon.
Will: Okay. 'Cause--'cause I've been thinking, and as much as I just wanna rip the agreement up and throw it in Nick's face tomorrow, I think I'm gonna wait.
Sami: I agree. I think that's--I think that's a good idea. I mean, there's no reason to rush.
Will: Right? Yeah, because--at least till after the baby's born, because I don't want Nick to freak out, and that stresses Gabi out. Basically, I don't--I don't wanna--I don't wanna make it any tougher on her than it has to be.
EJ: Well, I think it's difficult at the moment.
Will: Yeah. It's tense, definitely. And--and Gabi says that Nick's under a lot of pressure at work, but I don't know. I-I feel like there's something else going on.
Gabi: Hey. You ready to go shopping? Today's changing tables and layettes.
Nick: You know what? I'm still so bogged down with stuff that Kate wanted yesterday. Is there any way you can go without me?
Gabi: Yeah, sure.
Nick: I'm sorry. Text me pictures, though. It'll kinda be like I'm there.
Gabi: Okay. Uh, Will came by with a present for Arianna. You know, he's really looking forward to being a dad.
Nick: Good for him.
Gabi: I hope you mean that. Okay, I'll text you pictures.
Nick: Okay. [Exhales]
Sami: Hey, sweetheart, have you said hi to grandma? She knows you're here.
Will: No, I haven't. Oh, okay. See you.
EJ: What happened?
Sami: Epic, epic fail.
EJ: Did Bernardi get the evidence?
Sami: Oh, yeah. Yeah, he had no trouble getting the evidence. He smuggled it out in his backpack.
EJ: Okay. But?
Sami: He wouldn't hand it over to me, and I tried everything.
EJ: Treading lightly the entire time, right? Because anything else, Samantha, would be a complete, total--
Sami: Disaster. I understand that. But by the time I got him to finally admit that he really does work for Stefano, it was clear to him that Stefano had not really sent me...
Sami: And at that point, there was not a tremendous amount of room, you know, for subtlety.
EJ: Would you mind telling me what exactly it was that you did?
Sami: Well, at one point, I offered him Nick's $30,000.
EJ: You... we need to clean out that purse.
Sami: He didn't take it.
EJ: Did he call Stefano?
Sami: No. Thank God, no. I stopped him from doing that. But I know I just bought us a little bit of time.
EJ: You do know that he has to report back to him.
Sami: But what is he gonna say, right? Any version of that story makes him seem utterly incompetent. So maybe he won't tell anybody.
EJ: Maybe, but we can't count on that. And what happens if he does tell Stefano?
Sami: Stefano will be livid. I'll come up with a story. I-I'll come up with something.
EJ: Samantha, it's just not that easy.
Sami: I'm good at cover stories. I'll think of something.
[Cell phone rings]
EJ: I have to take this.
Sami: Great. You know what? I'm gonna go run an errand--
EJ: One second. Would you just do me one small favor, darling? Will you please try and not get in any trouble? Please?
Sami: See you at home.
Harold: Excuse me. I'll come back later.
Brady: Oh, now, Harold, Harold, have you seen Kristen this afternoon?
Harold: Yes, sir. She asked me for the key to the old wine cellar.
Brady: Why would she wanna go down there?
Harold: Uh, some items from her previous wedding are stored there, Sir.
Brady: I see. Thank you.
Daniel: Okay. Well, this place freaks me out. I'm outta here. You go find Kristen.
Brady: Daniel, thanks.
Daniel: Really? I'm on your side, man.
Brady: I know you are. I just wish everybody else was.
John: I'm never gonna forget what you did to me or Marlena. But I'll be honest with you. You've made me look closely at my actions back then.
John: I wasn't innocent. I can see that now. Kind of easy to be a Monday morning quarterback after all this time, but... I should've been honest with you and myself about my feelings for Marlena. I was just--I was trying so damn hard to convince myself that I was over her, that I-- that I doubled down on you. And that wasn't fair. Well, for what it's worth, at the time, I wanted it to be true. I did. I wanted to be over her.
Kristen: Well, forget that. [Exhales] She's the love of your life. [Sniffles] She always has been, and she always will be.
John: Things change.
John: Feelings change. You know that.
Kristen: So now that I'm involved with Brady, you probably hate me more than ever, right?
John: Don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't.
Kristen: Whole new level of hate, no?
John: No, I don't hate you, Kristen.
Kristen: Then what?
John: [Exhales] Good question. My feelings for you... are--are complicated.
JJ: No. There's nothing else to tell.
[Cell phone rings]
Jennifer: All right, hold on. I need to take this. I'm gonna go upstairs. You stay right here. I will be right back.
JJ: I'll be here. [Exhales]
Daniel: JJ. Wow, you--you look a lot like your pictures. I'm--
JJ: I know who you are.
EJ: So all the certificates were filed. Oh, good work, Justin. No, we've never done business there, so my father's not going to know where to look. I think we're on schedule, yeah. I tell you what, I'll be in touch, okay? Bye.
Will: [Exhales] Yeah, um, Rafe, I-I guess I have some time, yeah. No, I--no, I'm sorry. Yeah, I'll be at the pub. Come--come on over. Where did everybody go?
Sami: [Exhales] Look, Stefano, I saw your guy at the police station, and-- and he was being so obvious. I mean, I had to step in. I had to--
Kristen: Well, I guess "complicated" is better than sheer hatred, isn't it? You can see yourself out. I'm gonna give you ten minutes. Then, you're gonna have to go.
[Pounds on door]
Brady: Kristen? Are you in there?
