[Cell phone ringing]
Kate: Oh. Oh--
Rafe: Too early.
Kate: Come on, it could be important.
Rafe: It can wait. This can't, though.
Sami: Well, well, well. What would you have to say about me moving in here?
Stefano: Welcome home.
[Cell phone buzzes]
Cameron: "Running late?" [Sighs]
Will: Hey. Didn't you have to work this morning?
Sonny: I did, but I thought it was more important to spend some time with you.
Will: Wow, thanks. What happened to your hand?
Sonny: Um, I don't-- I don't know. Must've, like, banged it on something. It's not that big a deal.
Will: You banged it on something? What happened, dude? Tell me.
Sonny: I got into a fight with Nick.
Gabi: I'm right here.
Nick: Are you okay? Is the baby okay?
Gabi: Yeah, everything's fine. I just couldn't sleep.
Nick: Why not?
Gabi: I just, um-- I was just thinking about what, uh, what Will said, that I don't know you.
Nick: That's crazy. I told you, you know me better than anyone.
Gabi: No, I don't, Nick. I've been, um, thinking about it all night, and I realized that, um, that Will's right.
Will: Are you telling me that Nick took a swing at you?
Sonny: Well, actually, I was the one who threw the first punch.
Will: Why? What'd he--what'd he do? What'd he say?
Sonny: I just don't-- I don't want to talk about it. I don't want to talk about him.
Will: Hey, I--hey. I do. Look, Nick's problem is with me. I don't want you punching people, getting caught up in the middle. What happened? What--what did he do?
Sonny: He called me a faggot.
Nick: I promise you, that's not true. You know me better than anyone.
Gabi: Nick, there's still so much about you that I don't know. I mean, you've told me what you wanted me to know. And I get it, I understand. You know, there were things about my past I didn't want to tell you, either. But then I did, and it made me feel so much closer to you. But with everything that's happened, and how quickly you've been able to shut Will out of the baby's life, I just feel like I-- I feel like I need to know more.
Nick: Well, what do you want to know?
Gabi: I want to know...what happened to you in prison.
Cameron: No, of course I didn't forget.
Abigail: Well, I was hoping you hadn't.
Cameron: Are you kidding? I've been looking forward to this. Okay.
[Cell phone ringing]
Kate: Okay. Now can I get it?
Rafe: You can get it.
Kate: Thank you.
Rafe: Mm-hmm. What's wrong?
Rafe: Nothing. It's just business. Nothing personal.
Rafe: You do know that I'm a trained FBI agent?
Kate: Um, I-I think that that was ex-FBI agent.
Rafe: Fair enough. But I'm still really good at reading people. So...
Rafe: "I'm back in town. Thought you should know."
Kate: Obviously, it was personal.
Rafe: With Stefano, it's always personal.
Sami: Um, you're seriously welcoming me into your home? 'Cause, Stefano, EJ's not in the room. You don't have to, um, force yourself to be nice.
Stefano: Samantha, Samantha, this is your house now, too. With the kids, too. Even with William, if he decides to go with the both of you.
Sami: Uh, well, Will probably not be moving in, but thank you, uh... thank you for your hospitality.
Stefano: Hospitality is for guests. You are now part of the family, Cara.
EJ: I did not know you were back.
Stefano: Ah, yes, I just came in, and the lovely Samantha was waiting for me.
EJ: Uh, breakfast is almost ready.
Sami: Great. Yes.
EJ: Uh, would you like me to have chef fix something for you, father?
Stefano: Oh, no, no, no, no. Thank you very much. That's very kind, but, uh, this is your first morning here, so I'm going to leave you with your future bride here. I want you to both enjoy yourself as much as you can. Ciao.
Sami: Uh-- did I miss something here?
EJ: Like what?
Sami: Oh, I don't know, say, an announcement of an engagement?
Will: I don't know why I'm surprised. I mean, the guy's an ignorant homophobe. I mean, that's not exactly breaking news.
Sonny: Well, to tell you the truth, I did push him more than I probably should have.
Will: That doesn't-- that does not justify him calling you a faggot, though.
Sonny: Of course it doesn't justify it. Nothing could. Hey, maybe we should just turn the tables on Nick.
Will: What-- okay, what do you mean? Let--let everyone see him for the homophobic jerk that he is.
Will: I get what you're saying but unfortunately, you gotta think about how my family would react to that.
Sonny: It's the truth. Why are we protecting him?
Will: I--it's not even about protecting him. It's about-- I mean, don't you think I would go to the-- tell everybody right now, especially Gabi, who Nick really is if I didn't think he'd just run to the police? I mean, it's not just me, unfortunately. He's going to-- I mean, it's my dad, it's-- and it's Hope, it's--
Sonny: I know, I know. I'm sorry. I-I just--
Will: No, no, no. I'm sorry, man. I just-- I'm just angry.
Sonny: Yeah, with good reason.
Will: Not at you, though. The only thing that you should have done was just, like, just hit him harder.
Sonny: Well, there's always next time.
Will: This is the guy who's going to raise my little girl. Gonna fill her head with all sorts of ignorant nonsense.
Nick: When I walked into prison that first day, I was-- I was probably the least prepared guy in the world for-- for what was to come. I had no idea that, even though everyone was there for breaking the law, that that world has its own very strict set of laws. And I broke one of those laws right away. It cost another inmate three years on his sentence and almost cost me my life. I didn't know, Gabi. I didn't get that...there are things that happen in that place that are just-- [Sobbing] No. No! No, please! Please! No!
Gabi: Nick? What happened to you?
Rafe: Do you want me to have a talk with Stefano?
Kate: What, on my behalf?
Rafe: You don't think I'm serious?
Kate: Uh, look, I-- I think it's really sweet that you want to be protective of me, but no. I-I think it would be a terrible idea to go off and rattle Stefano's cage.
Rafe: Oh, you don't think he was trying to rattle your cage with that text?
Kate: Do I look rattled? What? Why are you looking at me that way?
Rafe: Sometimes I wonder...
Kate: Sometimes you wonder what? What if I still have feelings for him? Because I don't. I did love him, but... all I feel now is shame.
Rafe: Shame? Why? I mean, if you love someone, even if it ends badly...
Kate: "Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."
Rafe: That's right. I believe it. Don't you?
Kate: Yeah, I do. I do. But the kind of love that Stefano and I had, you-- you know that he blackmailed me into marrying him, and I-- looking back, I think it was Stockholm syndrome. I think that my survival strategy was to be sympathetic to my captor, and eventually, I did fall in love.
Rafe: God. Does this mean I'm going to have to make you my prisoner?
Kate: [Laughs] No. Because I am a happier person with you in my life.
Sami: So why, exactly, did Stefano refer to me as your future bride?
EJ: Oh, Samantha, please. I'm sure that's just his way of giving us his blessing.
Sami: To be married?
EJ: No, no, no. Listen, darling, what he's really saying is that he hopes that, on this occasion, this reunion is going to be a permanent one.
Sami: He needs to work on his delivery, because the way he said it, I swear, I felt more like he was--
EJ: He was handing down some sort of life sentence, I know.
Sami: Yes, yes, exactly.
EJ: That's not how you-- how you feel, is it?
Sami: I mean, no. It's my decision. I chose to be here, I just--
EJ: Okay, so what, exactly, is bothering you?
Sami: Him. Stefano. I don't know, he was, like, nice to me. It creeps me out. Like, I would rather him blackmail me or talk badly about my family or something, you know?
EJ: Oh, I understand that. But Samantha, that's just vintage Stefano.
Sami: How do you mean?
EJ: Well, you know as well as I do, he can be incredibly charming to your face. But it's when you turn your back that you have to watch out. Oh, my--I'm so sorry. I put the fear of God into you.
Sami: Well, it's not fear of God.
EJ: I'll tell you what. I promise you, I am never going to let my father, or anybody else, hurt you, okay? I will keep you safe. Always.
Nick: I wish you could understand. But there's things about life on the inside that you just... you can't think about. You just... you have to forget. There's a certain order, there's a-a hierarchy with the inmates, and... I had to play all the angles. I had to figure out how to make all the right alliances.
Vargas: What's your name, punk?
Nick: It's Nick. Nick Fallon.
Vargas: I could kill you for ratting me out.
Nick: One of the guards, they-- they just asked me about the fight in the yard.
Vargas: And you told them that I started it.
Nick: I didn't-- I didn't mean to get anybody in trouble. I didn't understand.
Vargas: Yeah, but you understand now, right? How things work around here? I said, do you understand?
Vargas: Good. I hear you're some sort of genius. Well, no one's ever called me that, God knows. But I am smart enough to know that you can't use your brain if you're always worried about what's going to happen to you next. You need someone to protect you. I can do that. But you're going to owe me, boy. You understand that, too, right?
Gabi: Nick, how-- how did you do it? I mean, how do you-- how did you survive in there for four years? Nick? What did you do?
Abigail: Hi, you made it.
Cameron: I did. And I'm--I'm sorry to keep you waiting. These are for you.
Abigail: Thank you. That's--that's really sweet of you.
Cameron: Well, you know what? Um, I hope that means that I'm forgiven.
Abigail: Oh, please. There's nothing to forgive. You were busy saving lives.
Cameron: Yeah, but I think I ruined any chance of us having breakfast.
Abigail: Well, now we can just have brunch. It's much classier.
Cameron: I agree.
Abigail: Besides, there's no rush. My mom's out, and I don't have class until 3:00, and you said yourself that your shift isn't till later, so...
Abigail: Yeah, well, let's hope it tastes as good as it looks.
Cameron: I wasn't talking about the food. I was talking about you.
Sonny: Well, what do you have in this shopping bag here?
Adrienne: Oh, oh, oh, it's a little something for Will. Is he going to be by?
Sonny: Uh, he might be, yeah. He's just studying for an econ test right now.
Adrienne: Well, I guess it can wait.
Sonny: Wait, that--that's for Will?
Adrienne: Why, what's wrong with it?
Sonny: I don't know. You don't think it's a bit much?
Adrienne: 'Cause-- I mean, it's not for Will. It's for his baby girl.
Sonny: Oh, mom, you-- you cannot give that to him.
Nick: A lot of people in prison use drugs. As an escape. As a way to...to cope. But I didn't. Somehow, I-I remembered who I was before I started using, and I wanted to get back to being that person again.
Gabi: So what did you do?
Nick: Well, Statesville's-- it's run a lot like A... like a small town. You know, there's just--there's hundreds of--hundreds of prisoners, and they each work in different departments to help keep things going. I found ways to work that system to my advantage, and I traded on it for protection.
Gabi: Like, um, like an informant? I mean, is that what led you to being stabbed?
Nick: Someone thought that I was going to snitch on them, which is the worst thing you can do in there. But they were wrong.
Gabi: You weren't going to?
Nick: No. By then, I'd learned. You don't rat out on another inmate.
Gabi: And they still tried to kill you?
Nick: No, the stabbing was-- was just a warning. If they wanted me dead, I'd... I'd be dead.
Gabi: I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry that you had to go through that.
Nick: You are the reason that I'm still here.
Gabi: What are you talking about?
Nick: When I got out of prison and I was going to start my life, I didn't know what was going to happen. But then, I met you. I met you, and everything came together. It all came together, and it came together better than I ever could have imagined it. Thank you. Thank you, Gabi. For saving my life. For giving me the family I've always wanted.
Sami: You have already done so much for me and my family.
EJ: Hey. Our family.
Sami: I just-- I just hate that you are here and under Stefano's roof, and you have to deal with him while he's making you miserable.
EJ: Samantha, I don't care which roof I'm under, okay? As long as I have you and I have the children, that's all I need, and that's all I want. Okay?
Kate: Okay. So now we have to get going. At least, I do. I have to get to work.
Rafe: Well, all right. I'll go jump in the shower.
Kate: And I will be right there, 'cause you know I am all about water conservation.
Rafe: Oh, yeah.
Kate: You know I am.
Rafe: I know.
Kate: Go green.
Stefano: Katherine. How nice to hear from you. Uh, obviously you got my message.
Kate: I knew you were back in town before I got your little text message, not that I give a damn.
Stefano: Then, um, why did you call me?
Kate: To tell you to leave me the hell alone. You will never, ever be part of my life again. I've moved on.
Stefano: "Moved on," huh? Katherine, "moved on" with whom? [Chortling]
Abigail: So how's work going? Have you had any more run-ins with the horrible Anne Milbauer?
Cameron: That lady's a trip, isn't she? No, I don't--I don't worry about her.
Abigail: Why should you have to? I mean, put up with someone so annoying and disruptive. I mean, especially when you work so hard and take on so much responsibility. I just--
Abigail: I know that you put a lot of pressure on yourself because of Lexie and what she meant at the hospital.
Cameron: It's--it is a lot to live up to, yeah.
Abigail: Cameron, can I ask you a personal question?
Cameron: Yeah, yeah.
Abigail: What happened with us, um, before, the misunderstandings, um... that's--we're past that, right?
Cameron: Yeah, yeah. Of course.
Abigail: I mean, I-I'd like to think that if something was on your mind, that you know you could talk to me about it.
Cameron: Actually, there-- well, there's one thing that's weighing on me.
Sonny: So now he's just... trying to move on. And obviously, it hasn't been easy. So that's why you can't give him that gift. I'm sorry, mom.
Adrienne: My God, how could Will do this? I-I thought he felt so strongly about being a part of the baby's life. Does he really believe that this is what's best for the baby?
Sonny: Yeah, yeah, he does. Otherwise, he wouldn't have signed those papers.
Adrienne: Sonny, I know you stand by Will no matter what, because you love him. But you can't honestly tell me that this is the best decision.
Adrienne: I know it's none of my business, but really, for Will to give up the legal rights to his child--
Kate: When the hell did that happen?
Cameron: We've been spending a lot of time together lately. And it's--it's been great. You're funny, and--and you're smart, and I feel really comfortable when I'm with you. And I hope you feel that way with me, too.
Abigail: I do, yeah.
Cameron: But...sometimes it gets awkward. Like it is now.
Abigail: Oh, awkward. I didn't--I didn't feel awkward until you just said that but, um, now that you did, I'm actually feeling a little awkward.
Cameron: You know what I mean.
Abigail: Yeah, um, I guess. Sort of, I think. Um, I-I suppose I know what you mean.
Cameron: Yeah, but I think I know a way we can bust through that.
Abigail: Oh. You do?
Abigail: Okay, well, that is really good to hear, because, uh, you never want anything to be awkward, and that's--
Rafe: Hey. Got your text. Important, huh? Everything okay?
Gabi: Yeah, everything's fine. I, um, I kind of just-- I wanted you to hear it from me.
Rafe: Hear what?
Gabi: Uh, that Will's given up his rights to the baby.
Rafe: Are you serious?
Gabi: Mm-hmm. Yeah, everything's, um, been filed with the courts, and it's official.
Gabi: He has no claim on Arianna anymore.
Rafe: Wow, I, uh-- I gotta tell you, that's, like, the last thing that I thought you were going to tell me.
Gabi: It was a good thing, Rafe. Um, it is. It's a--it's a good thing.
Rafe: Uh-huh. Sit down a second. I don't mean to pry here, but a while ago, Nick made some sort of threat, saying that he was going to do anything that he possibly could to keep you safe. Is this a part of that?
Gabi: Rafe, all I can say is that, um, this is what needs to happen to keep Arianna safe from Sami. Okay, I mean, you yourself said it--that she could, you know, push Will into fighting for custody. And now, legally, that can never happen, because we're protected.
Rafe: Right. Will's okay with this?
Gabi: Well, I-- he knows that I'm--I'm never going to keep him from her. She's always-- she's always going to be in his life.
Rafe: I just really wish that you had told me about this, Gabi. I mean--
Gabi: Well, I-I would have, but it just kind of happened fast.
Rafe: Mm-hmm. Right.
Gabi: You know, I, uh, I have to get to class. I'm sorry, I'm late for class. But can you do me a favor and take this downstairs? Because Nick and I are moving to the Kiriakis house today, and Victor's going to have somebody pick it up.
Rafe: You-- you're moving to the what? Okay. We're not done talking about all of this, you understand?
Gabi: Rafe, look. I, um, I appreciate you looking out for me, but you don't have to anymore, because I have Nick. And besides, the decision's been made.
Kate: Are you telling me that Will voluntarily signed over his parental rights to that baby?
Sonny: Yeah, that's-- that's what happened. It's a done deal.
Kate: Says who?
Sonny: Will says. It was his decision.
Kate: Did he? Did he, or did you talk him into it?
Adrienne: Excuse me. My son didn't do anything except support Will's decision. Sonny wanted to be a part of that baby's life as much as anyone.
Kate: Yeah, well, all I know is, Will would never abandon his daughter. When did this happen?
Adrienne: A few days ago.
Sonny: Kate, listen--
Kate: This is a travesty. I don't know why Will did it, but I am going to find out.
Sonny: No, Kate, please-- Kate-- damn it. I've gotta warn Will about this.
EJ: Now it truly feels like we're home.
Sami: [Laughs] I like your idea of breakfast.
[Cell phone ringing]
Sami: Oh, that's mine. Hold on. It might be the kids. Oh, it's will. Hey, sweetie. What's up?
Will: Uh, I need to see you now.
Sami: Now? Where are you?
Will: The town square.
Sami: Um, okay. What's this about?
Will: My baby.
Cameron: Well, now that we got that out of the way, we can relax and finish our breakfast.
Abigail: I'm sorry, don't you mean brunch?
Cameron: I stand corrected.
Cameron: Actually, maybe brunch can wait a little longer.
Kate: You son of a bitch.
Adrienne: Sonny. Sonny, I need you to be honest with me. Is Will in some kind of trouble? Is that why he was so willing to give up his baby?
Sonny: Mom, I'm really sorry. I just--I can't tell you anything else.
Adrienne: Okay. I understand. Just know that if you need anything, your father and I are here, okay? For both of you.
Sami: Oh. What happened? Did something happen to the baby?
Stefano: Ah, good. I hope you and your bride-to-be are settling in.
EJ: We are, yes. Thank you. Just for the record, we are not engaged, father. Yet. Oh, have you, uh-- have you seen Kristen today?
Stefano: No, no, I have not seen her.
EJ: I'd imagine you two have a lot to catch up on.
Stefano: Oh, wait, wait. Just--just a moment, please. I just want to make sure that you understand that I meant what I said before. I want you, okay, and Samantha to feel at home here.
EJ: Oh, I'm quite sure you believe that. But you have a tendency to believe a lot of things.
EJ: Do you mind if I, uh--
Stefano: Go right ahead. You think that is wise?
EJ: That is just my first move.
Stefano: Ah. First move, ha ha. Salute.
Will: Do you still think that Stefano can help me get custody of my daughter?
Sami: Of course, I do.
Will: Okay. Good. Then I want you to make that happen. I want you to do whatever it takes to get Nick out of the way.
