Parker: I can move it too.
Daniel: You can move it. Just rock it back and forth. I like it. You look comf--you comfortable down there?
Daniel: Yeah. Yeah, hi.
Jennifer: Do you think we could talk for a minute?
Daniel: Talk first, slap later?
Jennifer: Just talk. About Chloe. About the two of us. If you don't want to in front of Parker, I understand.
Daniel: No, you know what? No, it's important. As long as we're civil.
Jennifer: I would wait until we could be alone, but I just feel like if we don't straighten this out now, we never will.
Nancy: Chloe, are you sure you're being realistic here? I mean, when Jennifer and Daniel sit down and talk, how is he not going to figure out that you drugged him and let her think you slept together?
Chloe: Well, normally I'd say you're right, except the two of them can't sit and talk without Jennifer screaming, threatening, slapping, or making some crazy new demand. So, it's never gonna get that far, Mom. It can't.
Daniel: I know you and Chloe talked about last night.
Jennifer: She told you? So, then, you understand.
Daniel: Well, understand--
Jennifer: Why I was so upset and why I lashed out the way that I did.
Daniel: No, actually I was hoping you could enlighten me.
Anne: Would it be too much to ask you to step out of my way?
Abigail: Actually, yes, it would be.
Kristen: [Sobbing] I was afraid if I told you, I would lose you. That's all.
John: Well, woman, you just postponed the inevitable.
Kristen: [Cries] No.
John: 'Cause you have lost me forever.
Kristen: No! Whatever you're up to, john, you will know the pain I felt that day.
Marlena: John, listen to me. I know all that's wrong with this marriage is because I was not honest with you. But if you respond in kind, we don't have a prayer of fixing this.
John: All right. All right. All I can say is this... I would not give Kristen a second chance. Not in a million years. But right now, Brady can't know that. 'Cause if he does, I'm afraid I will lose him for good.
Marlena: Thank God she's not going to win again.
EJ: It's a little bit early in the day for vodka. Don't you think?
Kristen: Yeah, you're right. How about a gin and tonic?
EJ: [Chuckles] For me, no. Thank you, I'll stick with this. I like to be stone cold sober when I speak to father.
Kristen: Good point. However, if you change your mind--he's not at home.
EJ: Well, lovely. Gives us the opportunity to do a little bit of brother-sister bonding.
Kristen: You have something you want to talk about?
EJ: Uh, yes. You. I see John Black's back in town. It doesn't look like a celebratory cocktail you're craving. Kristen, you look like you're about to jump out of your skin.
John: Hey, kid. I didn't know that you were--
John: Yeah. Why didn't you knock?
Brady: I didn't expect to see you two together. What a surprise.
Kristen: Who told you John was back?
EJ: There's not very much that happens in this town that escapes my notice. I would imagine that rather complicates things with Brady. Maybe, though, instead of considering it a setback, this could be an opportunity.
John: How long you been standing there?
Brady: Long enough... to know how much better you two are doing. And I am glad about that.
Marlena: [Laughs] Me too.
Brady: Did dad invite you to dinner with us tonight?
Marlena: Well, we--
Brady: I--look, I know. I know that an evening out with Kristen is not your idea of fun, but it would mean a lot to me if we could all start acting like a family again.
Marlena: That would mean a lot to me. And for all of us to talk, to listen.
John: But right now, doc and I, we--we've got a lot more talking to do. So I think for tonight, it's best we just stick to how we planned it, just the three of us. Right, Marlena?
Marlena: Sure, whatever you think.
John: So what can I do for you, kid?
Brady: Actually I came here to thank you.
John: Thank me?
Brady: Yeah. Dad, I'll admit in the beginning of this whole thing, I thought you might be playing me. That you weren't being honest about wanting to give Kristen a second chance. Well, I spoke to Maggie, and she made me realize what an amazing thing you're actually doing for me.
Kristen: We've barely had a chance to talk in the last few weeks. I could think of far more scintillating topics of conversation other than John Black.
EJ: Okay, I'll be honest. It's a little bit self-serving. I was just curious as to how he took this news that Brady is moving into the mansion with our father.
Kristen: Mm-hmm. Far better than I ever could have imagined.
EJ: Oh, well just you wait until he finds out that I asked Samantha to move in as well.
Kristen: Did you? What did she say?
EJ: She didn't say no.
Kristen: [Laughs] Okay. Well I'm sure that makes you very happy. I know that's good for father, and it's good to have the family all here. Eh.
EJ: Three's company, eight's crowded?
Kristen: No. No. [Chuckles] No, I mean, I relish the thought of living here with you and your lovely children, and Chad might move in, and then Sami here. Hmm. When she bares her claws, which she will, I promise to behave. I mean, mostly. Because you love her.
EJ: But what about Brady? I mean, do you expect me to pull my punches out of respect for my sister?
Kristen: I don't know what that means.
EJ: Look, if we're all living here under this happy roof, it would be--it would be good for me to know if--look, are you and Brady here because you're a couple, you're in love... or is this you doing penance to serve some greater aim, whatever that might be?
Anne: You Hortons. You act as though you own the place. You don't even work here, you little--
Abigail: And hopefully soon, you won't either.
Anne: Do--do you know who I am?
Abigail: Yes, I do. You're the jealous bitch who's going to pay for stabbing my mom in the back. Now go away and leave me alone.
Maguire: Looks like it's all here.
Cameron: Of course it is.
Maguire: Don't cop an attitude. It was late. Next time it better not be.
Cameron: Listen, I heard you the fir-- [Sighs] Yes, sir.
Maguire: That's more like it.
Anne: Excuse me, I wasn't finished with you.
Abigail: Well, I was finished with you.
Anne: You do not talk to me that way in my hospital.
Abigail: Your hospital?
Anne: Oh, oh, I suppose you think it's yours? God deliver me from you Hortons. And you just may be the worst of the lot.
Abigail: Me? What have I done to you, Anne, besides just get in your way?
Anne: And call me names? And threaten me? Not to mention what you did to my friend, Chloe. You committed assault and battery. Let me tell you something, if you weren't a Horton, your ass would be in jail.
Chloe: I admit, I was a little upset at first when you suggested that Daniel go away for the entire medical conference, but then I realized that if Jennifer just stays under the rock where she belongs until Daniel leaves tonight, it could be days before they have a chance to talk.
[Knock at door]
Chloe: Oh, God, now what? [Sighs] Oh, Maggie, hi. If you're looking for Parker, he's with Daniel.
Maggie: I came by to see you.
Chloe: Oh. Why?
Maggie: Well, just to remind you that I've got your number. I always have, remember? And this time, Chloe, you're not gonna get away with it.
Jennifer: Daniel, wait a minute. You--you talked to Chloe. She told you about our conversation, and you still don't get why I was so upset?
Daniel: Upset, yes. And I'm sure Chloe told you that I didn't reciprocate.
Jennifer: Yes, she did tell me that, Daniel, but in the midst of all of this--
Daniel: Okay, Jenn, please stop, stop. There is no point in rehashing all that. It--it's petty. It's meaningless. And what I want you to know is that I'm not angry. Not anymore. Because nobody understands better than I do.
Chloe: My friend, Maggie Horton, did you really come over to my home to threaten me?
Maggie: It's not your home, it's my son's, and you are not my friend.
Nancy: Excuse me, Maggie, but I think--
Maggie: Oh, what a treat, Nancy! So good to see you. I hate to be rude, but hope you don't mind, I need a moment to talk to your daughter, alone.
Nancy: Not if you're going to speak to her that way.
Chloe: Mom, it's okay. It's fine. This is not gonna take very long.
Nancy: Fine. I'll be back, soon.
Chloe: Okay, whatever you think you may know, Maggie--
Maggie: I know that my son doesn't love you. And you're never gonna hurt him again, ever. Do you hear that? Not on my watch.
Jennifer: What is it that you think you understand so well?
Daniel: Jenn, I know that Chloe can be difficult, but at the same time she is my son's mother.
Jennifer: I know that.
Daniel: And for me to be a great father to that little man over there, she's going to be in the picture. Now I have tried everything to make it clear to you. I have tried everything to make this as painless as possible for everyone involved.
Jennifer: Really? Really?
Daniel: Well, I've done everything that I can do. But I-I feel like you still-- you doubt me every step of the way.
Jennifer: No, I don't.
Daniel: Yes, you do!
Jennifer: I doubt her, I do! And I doubt that you are capable of drawing boundaries that you need to keep her from taking advantage of you, Daniel.
Daniel: Jenn, I'm sorry, but this is not about Chloe, or even me.
Jennifer: Really? Then what is this about?
Kristen: You don't get in the way of my agenda, EJ, I won't get in the way of yours.
EJ: Even if mine is to marry Samantha?
Kristen: Why would I get in the way of that? I know that's what you've been wanting for a very long time.
EJ: It still boggles your mind, doesn't it?
Kristen: A little, maybe. But, you know, if you're happy, that's all I care about. I think what it is, is I'm actually a little competitive. I thought I'd be first.
EJ: To the altar?
EJ: With Brady?
Kristen: Yeah. You know, it doesn't matter. You know, the only thing that's really important here is that nobody loves a wedding as much as I love a wedding. You've got lots of planning to do, especially considering Sami's history with weddings, right?
Kristen: What, you know it's the truth. I'm not trying to hurt your feelings.
EJ: You know that's not what I'm talking about, Kristen. Every time I ask you about Brady, you change the subject. Can you just stop and please talk to me?
Brady: It was a plaque from a gondola from the last day that my dad and my mom went out before she died. He brought it over to me as a-- as a housewarming gift, to remind me how much my mom loved me.
Marlena: It must mean the world to you.
Brady: You have no idea.
Marlena: Why did you think you wanted to tell me about it?
Brady: I know you and dad have been having problems. I mean, all three of us have been having issues. All I've really ever wanted was to feel like I belonged. That I was part of a family.
John: You are, son. We've always been a family. And this dinner tonight, I'm hoping it's the start of... resolving these issues we have between us.
Brady: You really think that's, uh--that's possible?
John: Of course I do.
Brady: You lying son of a bitch.
John: Look, son--
Brady: How clueless do you think I am, huh? Of course I heard you. Of course I heard you plotting against me and Kristen!
Brady: Not, that's not the--
Marlena: And you were all too happy, happy to turn my dad against me, weren't you?
Marlena: No, this was not what that was about, Brady.
Brady: Oh, spare me!
Marlena: It's not!
Brady: Quiet! You give me presents.
John: Listen, Brady, Brady--
Brady: You give me presents, you've been apologizing to me. For what, dad? To reel me back in?
John: Son, if I--
Brady: Do you think this is a game?
John: I love my son!
Brady: Am I playing a game! I'm glad you love me! But I am finished with you! I'm sick of your lies! I'm done with you, and I am done with you!
EJ: Sometimes I feel like I can spend an hour with you and know less about you at the end of that hour than I did at the beginning.
Kristen: Oh, my gosh, who else does that description sound like, EJ?
EJ: Would you please stop deflecting?
Kristen: I'll stop deflecting when you stop deflecting.
EJ: I care about you. You know that.
Kristen: Likewise, "Eej."
EJ: Why do I know so little about you? Hmm? I get these little glimmers of who you are when you drop your guard for a second and say something unscripted.
Kristen: I'll try not to mean what I say more often.
EJ: Now look, when you moved in here with Brady, I assumed that it was to some greater end. But now I see you talking to him and it sounds to me like you have genuine feelings for this guy.
Kristen: Does it?
EJ: Look, if we're all going to be living here under one roof, I would just like to know how things stand.
Kristen: Yeah. When you find out, would you tell me? I'd love to know too.
EJ: Are you telling me that you're not sure about how--
Kristen: Why the hell does it matter to you so much, EJ? It's none of your damn business!
Anne: If I were Chloe, I would have pressed charges against you so fast, but she treated you with kindness or, well, pity, and all you could do was call her names.
Abigail: Believe what you want to believe, Anne. I know the truth.
Anne: [Scoffs] The truth. The truth is you're an elitist little snoot who thinks the world revolves around her, just like your mommy. You know what? You're even worse.
Cameron: Anne! What the hell is going on here?
Maggie: One thing that is abundantly clear, Chloe, is that the source of Jennifer and Daniel's problems is you. I mean, you had an agenda since the first day you came back into town.
Chloe: Talk about having an agenda. Don't you have anything better to do than play matchmaker between your niece and your son?
Maggie: And don't you have anything better to do than to try and break them up?
Chloe: [Sighs] It seems like everyone in this town is obsessed with the precious Daniel and Jennifer, and their pathetic love life, when you're all just wasting your time on something that's doomed from the start.
Maggie: Speaking of doomed!
Chloe: How many times have they broken up or been fighting since even before I was in the picture? So try saying the serenity prayer instead of blaming me, Maggie, because there's nothing you can do, because the truth is, those two just aren't meant to be.
Jennifer: Jack? You think Jack is the problem between us?
Daniel: Yeah. Jenn, I know how much you loved him and, my God, to lose your spouse so suddenly?
Jennifer: Don't tell me I'm being disloyal to my husband's memory, Daniel.
Daniel: Okay, no, no. No, what I'm saying is, what we were dealing with was a very... complicated situation when he was alive. And a more complicated situation now that he's gone.
Jennifer: Yeah, I know that.
Daniel: Right, and we had a relationship. A good one, a very good one. But you don't--you don't just jump back in like that.
Jennifer: No. No, you don't.
Daniel: No. And I was in a bad place with Nicole, and you were very--very protective. And I think partly because you felt like you owed me.
Jennifer: Owed you?
Daniel: Yeah, when I saved your life that time, and I just did what any doctor would do.
Jennifer: Okay, can we not downplay that, because you saved my life, Daniel.
Daniel: Exactly. Exactly. And I know that's how you see it, and ever since that time, you've felt like--
Jennifer: Like I owe you.
Jennifer: And you just said that to me, but will you stop it, please? It doesn't make any sense what you're saying.
Daniel: No, no, no, but it does, baby, it does. Because all of those experiences, they were very intense, and they brought us together very quickly.
Jennifer: And you think that's a bad thing.
Daniel: No, I think...I think maybe it was too soon. You weren't ready. I really do. I think part of you just is saying that it's too soon. And you're afraid, in some way, of betraying Jack. And that's why you're pushing me away, and you're just using Chloe as an excuse to do it.
Cameron: Now I don't know what's going on here, but you are completely out of line.
Anne: Well, look who's riding to the rescue. It's nepotism's poster child.
Cameron: Excuse me?
Anne: Side with the Horton family dynasty all you want, but at least your sister earned her place around here.
Abigail: Are you saying that Cameron hasn't?
Anne: No, I'm saying only the poor and unconnected among us actually have to work our way up the ladder.
Abigail: Yeah, or backstab their way up the ladder, as the case may be.
Anne: Some of us aren't lucky enough to be Hortons, or Bradys, or have DiMera ties.
Cameron: That's enough. Yeah, I have connections, Anne. And I don't like to use them...
Cameron: But I will not hesitate to do it if you don't start choosing your words a lot more carefully.
Chloe: Think about it. If Jennifer and Daniel were really meant to be, wouldn't they have worked it out by now? But no, they haven't. There's always one thing or another with them.
Maggie: Yes, there is! It's you! Or, um--you! And one of these days, Daniel will get completely fed up. And you will be out on your, um, unnaturally perky ass.
Chloe: We'll see about that.
Jennifer: You think I am coming up with reasons to not move on, to not be happy?
Daniel: Not consciously. You're--
Jennifer: That I'm unknowingly sabotaging my own happiness? Our happiness? It's not about Chloe playing games, it's not about you trying to--trying to keep her from doing that? It's not about any of that, it's about me?
Daniel: I-I gotta go. I have to catch a flight in a couple hours, and I'm gonna be in San Francisco for a few days, and I think it's just gonna be good timing... for all of us.
Jennifer: So you're just-- you're just walking away.
Daniel: You asked me to. And I think you need it. And I think I do, too. You, uh--you take care of yourself, okay?
EJ: Well, I'm sorry that I asked.
Kristen: No, I'm sorry, Eej. I'm sorry. [Sighs] I didn't mean to bite your head off. It's so sweet that you care. I guess I'm just not used to... opening up about my feelings with anyone.
EJ: That, I understand.
Kristen: You see, I really do care about Brady. I mean, deeply. And even though I realize that I guess we can't actually live happily ever after, I'd like to think that we're not gonna be miserable. But, you know, maybe that's too much to hope for.
EJ: Look, that's exactly the same way that I felt about Samantha, and look at where we are now. I owe a lot of that happiness to you. Maybe you'll let me return the favor.
Kristen: No, that's not necessary.
EJ: I insist.
Kristen: Look, do you think I can't manage this on my own? Without you? I mean, do you honestly think that I can't succeed without you pulling the strings? [Sighs]
John: Hey, kid, you gotta hear me out, come on.
Brady: Hear you out why? You think I want to hear more of your freakin' lies, dad, huh? Why are you looking so upset, Marlena? You got exactly what you wanted. You turned my dad against me. He's on your side.
Marlena: There are no sides here, Brady.
Brady: Are you helping me? Is that what this is all about? 'Cause dumb Brady can't figure out that this woman is just using him? She couldn't possibly love him, right? She couldn't possibly love him. You think you two are the only people that know what love is. Well, you're wrong.
John: Just calm down and listen to us.
Brady: I am not in the mood to listen to you anymore! Go to hell! Both of you!
EJ: Kristen, I'm just offering my help.
Kristen: I know, I know. Oh... I don't know why I'm being so emotional. Sorry. I-I guess because there was another time when I was gonna marry the man of my dreams, and strangely enough, it was right in this very room, and I.. I don't know. I guess when that went straight to hell... I kinda just locked up all those childish dreams forever.
EJ: And now?
Kristen: I don't feel like talking about it now any more than I did five minutes ago.
EJ: Okay. Okay, I'll, um... I'll be on my way.
Kristen: Take care, okay? And I'm sorry.
EJ: Me too.
Anne: I don't answer to you.
Cameron: And she doesn't have to answer to you, so why don't you apologize to Abigail?
Anne: I think I should get back to work.
Abigail: No, Cameron, don't. Don't. She's not worth it.
Cam: [Sighs] People like that just drive me crazy. And why was she going after you like that anyway? 'Cause she doesn't like your mom?
Abigail: Yes, pretty much. I'm sorry that you got sucked into it.
Cameron: [Sighs] I'm glad I came when I did.
Abigail: You seem tense. Are you okay?
Cameron: [Exhales] Me? I'm... no. I'm--I'm not okay, actually.
Abigail: I'm sorry. You've been listening to me go on and on about my problems for weeks now. It's your turn. Why don't you talk to me?
Maggie: Oh, Charlie, thank you for taking care of this. I appreciate it. Yeah, the cell phone service is back on on the island, so we shouldn't have any problems keeping in touch. Yeah, thanks. Okay. Hello.
Jennifer: Hey. What was that about?
Maggie: Charlie. He's heading up to Smith Island to open up the cabin for the season.
Jennifer: Oh, really? Already?
Maggie: Spring has sprung. He's heading up there tomorrow. I'm sure you're wondering what I'm doing in your living room. Helen was cleaning and she let me in.
Jennifer: Maggie, you don't-- you don't need a reason to be here.
Maggie: Thanks. Honey, you look terrible.
Jennifer: Well, however I look, I feel worse.
Maggie: Oh, no. What's happened now?
Jennifer: I can't do this. I can't go into this again.
Maggie: Look, you just tell me to butt out if I'm crossing a line here, but I don't know what's going on. But I wish that you would do yourself and Daniel a favor and call him. And sit down with him, talk. Talk--talk to him, really talk.
Jennifer: Know what, Aunt Maggie? That is actually where I just came from, and that is actually what we just did. We got it all out there. And it is worse than it's ever been.
Daniel: I just came to say good-bye. I'm gonna miss you, man. All right? You wave to lady liberty for me. Yeah, like that. Okay? She's green, and she's in the... ocean.
Chloe: Sit you down here with your truck. Play with your truck. Is everything okay? You seem a little stressed.
Daniel: I just don't like being away from Parker, yeah. Here's my, uh--here's my itinerary, in case you need to reach me.
Chloe: Great. Yeah, I'm gonna miss him too. I haven't been away from him since...
Daniel: Yeah, Chloe, I, uh-- I really need to get going.
Nancy: Oh, you're back. Dan, you have a really good trip.
Daniel: Thank you. Yeah, you too. And, um, take care of my little man, all right?
Nancy: Oh, we will.
Daniel: Okay. Okay, and you... I love you. You know that? Yes.
Parker: I-I know that.
Nancy: I took a walk through the town square, and I saw Daniel and Jennifer talking.
Nancy: Well, arguing. And I have to say you were right. It did not end well.
Brady: Good. You're here.
Kristen: What's going on?
Brady: [Sighs] Nothing you can't fix. Right here, right now.
Cameron: [Sighs] I mean, isn't it obvious why I'm upset? I have to work with someone every day who implies I don't deserve my job.
Abigail: Nobody listens to Anne.
Cameron: [Scoffs] I'm trying to give 110% so that no one-- so there's no excuse to wonder.
Abigail: Is that the reason you've been taking on so many extra shifts lately?
Cameron: Everybody at the hospital loves and respects my sister. And I have big shoes to fill.
Abigail: Oh, uh, speaking of your sister... I walked off with your pen. And I know that Lexie gave it to you, so it's really special.
Cameron: Thank you.
Cameron: Well, I guess I better get back to work.
Abigail: Okay. See you soon?
Cameron: Looking forward to it.
Nancy: I couldn't get close enough to hear what they were saying, but from the way things ended, it looked like Daniel was still clueless.
Chloe: I wonder why Jennifer wouldn't tell him why she slapped him. Because I let her think that we'd slept together, but, hey, I'll take it.
Nancy: Mm? Team Chloe all the way.
Maggie: Jennifer, are you sure you said everything to Daniel that you wanted to say?
Jennifer: No. I guess I couldn't.
Maggie: Oh, honey.
Jennifer: I didn't.
Maggie: Is there anything that can be gained by keeping it inside and giving yourself an ulcer? You said yourself it couldn't get any worse, so who knows? Daniel might surprise you. I love you, Jennifer Rose. Whatever happens, I just want you to be happy. Call me if you need anything. Anything at all.
Jennifer: I will.
Maggie: Even if I have to knock some sense into my son for you. Okay?
Jennifer: Thank you.
Daniel: I have to make this right.
Jennifer: Yeah, hey, Charlie, it's Jennifer Horton. Good, I'm well. Aunt Maggie was just telling me that you were gonna just get the cabin ready for the season, and I was thinking that I would like to do that myself. Yeah, yeah, I'm sure. No, I'm--I'm good, I just, um... I just need to go someplace quiet and be alone for a while. Yeah, thanks, Charlie. Bye-bye.
John: Leave me alone.
Marlena: John, wait a minute.
John: Leave me alone.
Marlena: Talk to me. Talk to me!
John: Don't you understand? You've ruined everything.
Marlena: Listen, Brady will come to his senses soon enough. He will be grateful to you. He will understand what you were doing.
John: Stay out of my son's life.
John: Stay out of mine.
Kristen: What happened? What do you think I can fix?
Brady: You can marry me. 'Cause I love you more than anything in the world.
