Chloe: I think, deep down inside, he knows that you're his daddy.
Daniel: I hope so. Anyway, um, you know, Maggie-- she's coming by. So if anything goes wrong, I've got some backup here.
Chloe: You'll be great. And I will be there as soon as I'm finished with my errands.
Daniel: Okay, no problem.
[Knock at door]
Daniel: Oh, hold that. That's Maggie at the door. Bye, I got to go. You wanna help me open the door? Oh, come on. I got an idea, let's try it. Watch this. You ready? Elevator up. [Imitates motor grinding] I got you. [Laughs] Yeah. Come here, buddy. Can you do this? You got it. That's it, use that muscle. Pull, pull. Rip it open.
[Knock at door]
Jennifer: Come in!
Jennifer: Hi. What are you doing here?
Chloe: I hope it's okay. I know I didn't call first.
Jennifer: Um, yeah. It's fine. I-I'm free right now.
Jennifer: Come on in.
Chloe: [Sighs] Um...I thought that maybe you and I should talk face-to-face.
Jennifer: What about?
Chloe: Parker. And Daniel.
Eric: Good morning.
Kristen: Is everyone else running late?
Eric: No. I cancelled the board meeting.
Kristen: Really? Without telling us?
Eric: I wanted to speak with you two privately.
Eric: Given the public nature of your relationship, and the very public nature of your fistfight that you had with your father John...the idea of us all working together to build this school seems a little bit naive.
Brady: What do you mean?
Eric: It means that it's not happening.
Marlena: I must say, I was so relieved to get your message.
John: I'm glad you could make it.
Marlena: Does it mean you've changed your mind? Are you staying in town?
John: No, I haven't changed my mind. The reason I called you is I'm leaving town today.
Marlena: Today? You're leaving today?
John: My meetings in Paris and Milan got set up faster than I expected.
Marlena: Baloney! You're running away. You don't even want to stand and fight for us, do you?
John: No, what I want is to figure out a way to break up my son from that woman. And, for some reason, I just can't think in this environment. Not lately, anyway.
Marlena: When are you coming back?
John: I don't know. Thinking about staying in Italy for a while, after I wrap up my meetings, just to check out what's changed since we last left.
Marlena: So everything that we've built...everything we've survived...everything we have meant to each other, you're going to throw that away because I didn't tell you about Brady and Kristen?
John: If I had known earlier what was going on, maybe I could have done something for my son. But you made a decision. You let that woman use him, maybe even destroy him.
Marlena: You told me she was right and I was wrong.
John: [Sighs] See? You didn't have any faith in me. You know what really bothers me, Doc? You still don't.
Daniel: I think he likes your present.
Daniel: [Whispers] Here you go. [Normal voice] Well, you're pretty quiet.
Nicole: I didn't think he'd be here.
Daniel: Yeah, this is my first time alone with him here. [Whispers] Here.
Nicole: I thought I would just...drop the present off and tell you how happy I am for you.
Daniel: Okay, you know, if-- if this is too much, I'm sorry.
Nicole: No, no, no, I'm-- I'm sorry. Please, don't you be sorry. It's just--
Daniel: A painful reminder of what you lost.
Nicole: Of everything I lost. It's my own fault.
Daniel: Um...no. Not the baby. It's not.
Nicole: I don't know.
Nicole: I don't know. I spent so much time trying to keep you and Jennifer apart. Maybe...maybe if I took better care of myself, I--
Daniel: Okay, don't say that. 'Cause that is not true.
Nicole: Okay. Okay. So you're here with Jennifer now...right? And I've got my BFFs now, over at the convent. It's great.
Daniel: You will find somebody, somebody who is right for you.
Nicole: I found somebody. The hard part was...getting him to see that I was right for him.
Daniel: I'm sorry. I--
Nicole: I--mm. So how is Jennifer handling you having a son?
Daniel: Um, she's, uh--she was, well, shocked as I was to find out, but she's happy. Yeah.
Nicole: Is she happy that Chloe's back in your life?
Daniel: Oh, she knows that what Chloe and I had is, uh-- is over.
Nicole: Daniel...I think there's something that you should know.
Daniel: What? What is it?
Nicole: Well, I...I hope you don't take this the wrong way... but, um...
[Knock at door]
Daniel: Oh, okay, I'm sorry. Um... [Clicks tongue] Hey, you wanna go answer the door again? Yeah, all right, here we go. Come up. [Imitates rocket lifting off] Ready? All right. Come on, little dude. See what kind of muscles you got. There you go. All right, now, rip it open. Yeah.
Maggie: How are you doing? How are you? Nicole.
Nicole: I was just leaving.
Daniel: What? No, no, you weren't. No, no, you were in the middle of telling me something.
Nicole: Oh, it's really not that important. I-I just...I just really wanted you to know how happy I am for you. And I know that you've...always really loved Parker and...and I know how you're gonna be such a great father, so I hope you have fun with him. I'll see you later, little dude.
Jennifer: So what do you want to say about Daniel and Parker?
Chloe: I'm so sorry about Jack. You must miss him so much.
Jennifer: Yes, and I always will. But I really don't think that you came here to talk about Jack.
Chloe: Actually, I kinda did.
Jennifer: Excuse me?
Chloe: Well, I grew up in this town, and I saw you and Jack over the years. I know how much you two meant to each other. So I understand you saying you'll always grieve for him... which, um, makes me wonder about you and Daniel.
Jennifer: Mm. Wonder what?
Chloe: Makes me wonder whether Daniel is maybe a transition for you, to help you get past losing Jack?
Jennifer: Do you think that I don't know my feelings, Chloe?
Chloe: I'm not trying to barge in where I don't belong.
Jennifer: Really? You're not?
Chloe: No, but Parker has to get used to not seeing Philip anymore. And he has to accept Daniel as his dad and learn to love him, which means he has to get to know you and care about you. And if, God forbid, you and Daniel didn't work out, I'm just afraid that Parker would be more hurt and confused than he already is. And I have to put my son first. I have to think about--
Jennifer: Chloe, give me a break. You did not come here to talk about Parker.
Brady: You want us to resign from the board?
Eric: In a word, yes.
Brady: Do you have any idea how much money this school is gonna lose if you do this?
Kristen: Okay, don't do this, don't do this, I'll resign. Let Brady stay and help you raise the money you need.
Brady: Eric, don't do this.
Kristen: The most important thing is the school, right? Of course, my family will still honor its pledge to the building fund, okay? You guys need to work this out. Don't let this come between you brothers.
Brady: We're stepbrothers.
Kristen: You're brothers. Okay?
Brady: Are you pleased with yourself?
Brady: Good. And just so you know, I'm not staying on the board without Kristen.
Eric: That's fine with me. And, given the way you're conducting your life, I don't think you and I will ever work together on anything anymore.
Marlena: How long will you be gone?
John: I don't know.
Marlena: And do you have any suggestions as to how I keep the family safe from Kristen while I'm alone?
John: Kristen's M.O. has changed, Doc. She's into mind games now.
Marlena: She is? Oh, really? Oh, my.
John: Stay away from her. Do not engage.
Marlena: I'll try not to. Shall I have the locks changed?
John: If I thought she was a physical danger to you, I would not go out of town. Now, got a lot of things to do before I get to the airport, so please...stop thinking about her. Just let her go.
Marlena: You too!
Daniel: Wow. I know it's, uh--it's finally quiet in here. How'd you do it? 'Cause I tried to put him to sleep and he just--he--I lost it and...
Maggie: Well, I don't know, he's used to sleeping in a crib. So I just put some pillows all around him, and it made him feel a little more secure.
Daniel: Gosh, I have so much to learn here.
Maggie: You've been alone with him all morning. That's a lot. He had a meltdown, because he's in a strange new place. That's not the end of the world.
Daniel: Yeah, but you know what? I'm impatient. I missed two years out of his life. I mean, he never should have left here, never. His crib should be in here. That room, that guest room, should be a little boy's room. It should be his room.
Maggie: And it will be. You've got him back now.
Daniel: No, he put up with me this morning because he had to. I mean, as soon as you walked in, he wanted you. I'm just--I'm a stranger in this kid's life.
Chloe: Are you questioning my commitment to my son?
Jennifer: No, I am not. I do not doubt your concern for your son or that you're a good mother.
Chloe: Then why did you say that?
Jennifer: Because I don't believe Parker is the reason you came here today.
Chloe: What other reason would there be?
Jennifer: Chloe, you--you said to me that you accept the fact that Daniel has moved on with me, but I don't think you mean it.
Chloe: Okay, look. You have every reason to be suspicious of me. But now that it's just the two of us, I think it's time to clear the air.
Father Matt: Nicole.
Nicole: Hi! Father Matt! I didn't know you were back in town.
Father Matt: I've been hearing about you. I hear you're doing wonderful things in the church office. Sister Annabel can finally find things.
Nicole: Yeah, well, at least I'm finally doing something right. [Laughs]
Father Matt: You don't sound too happy about it.
Nicole: Well, that's an understatement.
Father Matt: Well, would you like to talk about it?
Nicole: Yeah, okay.
Father Matt: So...
Nicole: Well, um...okay, there's, uh, there's this guy that I used to be involved with, and...I'm worried about him. Because he's dating this new woman, who's so self-righteous and annoying, and she wouldn't know how to have a good time if it bit her in the... okay, she's dull.
Father Matt: Sounds like he doesn't feel the same way.
Nicole: He's a great guy. But--but he's so clueless when it comes to women. I mean, he hasn't even noticed that this--this other woman from his past is trying to break up him and--well, let's just call her "the dull one."
Father Matt: Maybe you still have some strong feelings about this man.
Nicole: Yeah, I-I guess.
Father Matt: Well, then you can't be entirely objective.
Nicole: Well, no, I mean... well, just today, I-I-I was gonna warn him about what's happening, but then I realized, I mean, why would I help him stay with the dull one, when I should just sit back and let the scheming one do her worst? Well, what do you think I should do?
Father Matt: Nothing. Because all that's none of your business.
Brady: So this is personal, isn't it?
Eric: I wish you would have been more honest with me about your relationship with Kristen.
Brady: You know, what board members do in their free time, why is that any of your business?
Eric: It becomes my business when you're sleeping with a woman who was once involved with your father. And then you and your father get in a fistfight because of it?
Brady: Don't you think you're being just a tad bit judgmental?
Eric: And don't you think you're being a little bit tacky? It's not my business. But I'm not gonna have it have a poor reflection on this church.
Brady: Does that collar give you the right to look down on people? Is that what it does, hmm?
Eric: [Bangs on desk] I'm talking to you as your brother. Not as a priest. If it were up to me, Kristen would have never even been on this board. She's as dangerous as her old man and phony as a $3 bill.
Brady: You don't even know her at all!
Eric: I know she tried to kill my mother, and that's all I need to know!
Brady: And she paid for it! And she regrets it every day of her life, okay?
Eric: She has got you so tied up in knots, you don't even see reality. Don't you see how this is affecting your whole family?
Brady: If you're talking about my dad...
Eric: He and Mom have put you back together so many times! How have you paid them back? By being selfish. You don't even...you don't even care that their marriage is falling apart because of it.
Brady: Look. I talked to Dad and Marlena, okay? They won't even give Kristen the benefit of the doubt.
Eric: And why should they?
Brady: I thought you becoming a priest would change you, make you different somehow, but it hasn't. I was wrong.
[Door slams shut]
Marlena: Mm. Don't go. Please don't go. I've got a terrible feeling...if you go, you're never coming back.
John: I don't know what's ahead for us, Doc. But I'll be back.
Marlena: I'm gonna hold you to that. [Sniffles]
[Door opens, shuts]
Marlena: [Sobbing gently]
Maggie: I don't know if I've ever told you this, but I'm very happy...that you had a good childhood. But...I still wish that I'd been the one who bandaged your skinned knees and tucked you into bed at night.
Daniel: Well, I was lucky. I had a good mother, and now I have another one.
Maggie: [Laughs] Well, our life together is kind of unconventional.
Maggie: We're happy, though, aren't we?
Maggie: All right, I'm sure Parker's gonna feel the same way.
Daniel: Now how is it that you always know the right thing to say?
Maggie: Oh, I don't. Believe me.
Daniel: Well, you do as far as I'm concerned. 'Cause I am so lucky to have you in my life.
Chloe: As unhappy as I am that my marriage to Daniel is over...I accept that he's with you now.
Chloe: I do. And if you think I've been hiding something, it's because I was. [Sighs] See, the thing is... before I left Salem... for a little while... I was... I-I was a prostitute.
Jennifer: Chloe, I know that. And you know what? It's none of my business. It's really not.
Chloe: You're right, it isn't. But now that you know the worst, I think it's the best for you to hear the whole story.
Jennifer: No, because I really don't think it is my--
Chloe: No, please just... please hear me out. I really feel like it could change everything.
Father Matt: Nicole, I have a suggestion. Why don't you focus on doing something for someone else? Something good, something generous. Something that doesn't involve your own needs.
Nicole: That's a good idea. Now I just have to figure out what that is.
Father Matt: Okay, well, let's think about this.
Kristen: Hey, John! Hey! Hey! Wait! Wait! Wait! Hey, how's it going?
John: [Sighs] What do you want?
Kristen: Well, that was some scene at the coffeehouse between you and Marlena. Was that for real? Or was it just for my benefit?
John: Mm, didn't know you were there. Why? You spying on us?
Kristen: Spying? I wouldn't spy. I was just there for coffee. But, I mean, you know, when Marlena chooses to make a spectacle of herself, it's a little hard to ignore.
John: Yeah, well, she's not quite as subtle as you are.
Kristen: Mm, that's funny.
Kristen: Are you really leaving town?
John: Only long enough to figure out a way to make my son see you for the monster that you really are.
Kristen: So what's going on with you and Marlena anyway? Trouble in paradise? That did not look like a fond farewell.
John: Aw, go to hell.
Kristen: Yeah, you first. [Sighs] Whoever said, "Revenge is sweet"...didn't know the half of it.
Jennifer: Well, I am sorry, it's just, it's a horrible, horrible story and I just... don't think that anyone could hold that against you. And I just want you to know that I-I won't.
Chloe: Thank you. I...I appreciate that. It's such a relief. I just keep thinking that somebody else would have found a way to fight back. But me...I let Vivian convince me that Daniel was having an affair with Carly. I let Philip seduce me. I had no idea that Stephanie and her friend and Caroline Brady were all trying to arrange the results of my amnio. That's all so...crazy. But I let other people ruin the best thing that ever happened to me. If Daniel had known that Parker was his son, even if he'd found out about Philip and me... maybe we could have worked things out. I'm pretty sure that Daniel would have at least wanted to try, for Parker's sake. But, as it was, he turned and walked away.
Jennifer: Chloe, I understand...what you're saying, but I don't understand the point you're trying to make.
Chloe: Well...I know you are such a good person and you're always trying to do the right thing.
Jennifer: So, what you're saying is, you think the right thing to do would be for me to give up Daniel?
Chloe: I lost Daniel, and it's my own fault. If you make him happy, then I would never ask you to give him up. What I'm worried about is what you could do to Parker.
Jennifer: What are you talking about? How could I hurt Parker, Chloe?
Chloe: Well, I have a lot of friends at this hospital from when I was a volunteer. And I heard that you asked for the number for Child Protective Services.
Jennifer: Hey, wait a minute. Who told you that?
Chloe: It doesn't matter.
Jennifer: It does matter. I need to know.
Chloe: Were you gonna call them and tell them about me?
Jennifer: No, why would I do that, Chloe? I would never--
Chloe: To get me out of Parker's life and Daniel's.
[Knock at door]
Nurse: Sorry to barge in, but you've been holding your calls.
Jennifer: [Stammers] What do you need? What is it?
Nurse: The hospital administrator wants to see you right away.
Jennifer: I am sorry. I'm right in the middle of some--
Chloe: You know what? I got to pick up Parker from Daniel anyway, but please, just think about what I said.
Nicole: Hi. [Sighs]
Nicole: I brought you your mail. Was this getting uncomfortable?
Eric: I was actually looking for that. I threw it at Brady today.
Nicole: You...oh. Um, well...is it about a family matter that doesn't concern me? Or can I ask if you were fighting about Kristen?
Eric: I asked them both to resign from the board. I just couldn't tolerate them using the church and the building fund to make their relationship look respectable.
Nicole: How did Brady feel about that?
Eric: Uh... [Sighs] He didn't want to hear a negative word about her.
Nicole: And there are so many negative things to say.
Eric: Yeah, well, he said he's--that she's changed, in love.
Nicole: He really said that?
Eric: He's getting played. Kristen as much as admitted it to John. I don't know what it's gonna do to him when he finally realizes that. And between him and the problems it's causing my mom and John, I don't understand how one woman could tear a family apart.
John: [Inhales forcefully]
John: Just ran into Kristen. You know, the girl was reveling in the fact that I'm getting ready to head out of town and things aren't going so well between Marlena and me.
Brady: You going out of town?
John: Seems like a good time to take some meetings with the European offices.
Brady: So you'll be back.
John: Mm, eventually. Once I figure out how I'm gonna get through to you about Kristen.
Brady: [Sighs] Then you're gonna be gone a long time, Dad. You know, until...until you accept the fact that Kristen's a part of my life, maybe you should just not come home. At least not for my sake.
Kristen: It was absolutely fantastic, Father. I mean, Marlena was practically begging John not to go.
Stefano: So...John has lost his wife and his son because of you?
Kristen: Well, yes, of course. And now John's life will never be the same.
Stefano: All right, well, look, since you have your Victory, now it's time for you to dump Brady Black.
Kristen: Uh...actually, I don't think I'm going to do that.
Eric: Brady's not the man you knew. And John, he's leaving town for a while.
Nicole: What? Why? Because of this? What about your mom?
Eric: I think it's...pretty accurate to say that they are separating.
Nicole: Wait a minute. I mean, they're the world's most devoted couple.
Eric: They were.
Nicole: And this is all because of Kristen?
Eric: That's what my mom says.
Nicole: So it sounds like the only way to get your mom and John and Brady back together is if Kristen is out of the picture.
Eric: Nicole. What are you thinking about?
Nicole: Causes that can be won. Well, time for my break. Don't give up hope.
Eric: I've been praying a lot. Maybe I'll get a divine inspiration.
Nicole: Good idea. All right, you do your thing and I'll do mine. You're still helping people who help themselves, right? 'Cause I'm counting on that.
Stefano: You got what you want, so it's time to give him his walking papers, huh?
Kristen: I'm not sure I have what I want.
Stefano: You said that John has left Marlena.
Kristen: Yeah, but if I keep seeing Brady, then I can keep sticking it to John and Marlena.
Stefano: Hah. Yeah, if that's all there is to it.
Kristen: I know exactly what I'm doing, okay?
[Soft overlapping chattering]
Marlena: [Sighs] Hi.
Brady: I ran into Dad.
Marlena: Well, then you know.
Brady: About him...going to Europe?
Marlena: For an indefinite period of time.
Brady: Eric also...told me that you and Dad have been having problems, and it's because of me. And I really wanted to say that I'm sorry about that.
Marlena: It's not your fault. It's my fault.
Brady: Why? What did you do?
Jennifer: If I tell you something, will you, uh... promise not to repeat it? Especially to Daniel?
Maggie: I promise.
Jennifer: Chloe came to see me this morning.
Maggie: Oh, yeah?
Jennifer: To talk to me about what I was telling you yesterday.
Maggie: Yeah, um, Daniel was upset with you because he thought that you had acted on something that you hadn't shared with him.
Jennifer: And after I left you, he came to see me, and he apologized, and...he said he knew that I would never do what he accused me of, so we didn't really talk about it.
Maggie: Hmm. But you said the information was about Chloe.
Jennifer: Yeah, and a horrible incident that happened in her past.
Maggie: One that Daniel didn't know about?
Jennifer: No, but he knows now. And he thought that I was gonna use this information against Chloe without telling him.
Maggie: How did he get that idea?
Jennifer: I just think that Chloe is trying to make me look really bad right now.
Maggie: Can you tell me what this incident is?
Jennifer: No, that wouldn't be right. But I can tell you why she's using it to get at me.
Maggie: I love how ethical you are. But that's not making things easy.
Jennifer: Aunt Maggie, I just want to tell you, when Chloe came to see me this morning, it was very clear to me that she still loves Daniel. And I believe she will do anything to get me out of the way so that she can have him back.
Daniel: Well, he cried for a little while, when I tried to get him down for a nap.
Chloe: Oh, I don't think he's gonna be taking two naps a day for much longer.
Daniel: Yeah, well, you know, Maggie was here, so she calmed him down, but then he took a nap for about, I think, an hour.
Daniel: Yeah, then he cried when he woke up, but I just-- I think it's because he's just...wasn't in his normal place.
Chloe: Yeah, well, seems like he's doing fine now. Right, Parker? Having fun? You playing?
Daniel: Yeah, well, I was able to calm him down this time. Sort of comfort him, you know?
Chloe: Aw, he's gonna learn to love this place. He'll have as many happy memories here as I do. Oh, my gosh.
Chloe: I have the best idea.
Maggie: Chloe might as well save her energy. Because she's never gonna replace you in Daniel's eyes.
Jennifer: Aunt Maggie, Daniel and I are just finding our way back to each other again, and Chloe has given him what he wants most in this world, a child that he can raise.
Maggie: Okay, so maybe she has. But do you think that's gonna make him fall in love with her? Mm-mm. Remember, I saw what happened with them, and she blew it.
Jennifer: And you know what? She knows that. But she still thinks she has another chance.
Maggie: [Grunts] I know. Victor thinks so too. [Raps on desk] So maybe... the two of us should keep a very close eye on Miss Chloe.
Chloe: Yeah, you want to spend as much time with Parker as possible, and he needs the time with you. He also needs to be settled in one place. Why shouldn't that place be here?
Daniel: Are you kidding?
Chloe: Yeah, I mean, you could tuck him in at night, get him up in the morning. You two would bond in no time.
Daniel: That would be--that would be amazing. You think we could work it out?
Chloe: Sure, it's easy. Parker and I could move in here today.
Marlena: I don't want to go into specifics. I don't like talking about the foolish decisions that I've made because of Kristen. I think you'll feel the same way one day.
Brady: Don't start with that. I've had enough of it today.
Marlena: I can't stop. I think you and I...are going to end up paying a terrible price.
Eric: You sure I can't talk you out of this?
John: Uh, I need this time away. I'll be back.
John: Do me a favor?
Eric: Name it.
John: You watch out for your mom. And keep trying to get through to Brady.
Eric: I'll do my best. He'll be in my prayers.
John: Well, unfortunately, I think it is gonna take more than prayers to stop Kristen. She really is the devil.
Kristen: So please, Father, honestly, you don't have to worry about me.
Stefano: I hope not.
Kristen: Absolutely not. I'm going to ruin John and Marlena's lives just like they ruined mine. That's all there is to it. Nothing can stop me, 'kay?
[Knocks on door]
Kristen: Whoa. Somebody's at the door. Oh, it's probably Brady.
Stefano: Uh-huh. Look, please, spare me the details, all right?
Kristen: Talk to you soon. Coming, baby. [Sighs] Hey--
