Episode #11981 ~ Sonny Urges Will To Cut Gabi Out of His Life; Daniel Sees Kate Showing Maxine Parker's Picture

Provided By Suzanne

Sami: Eric is gonna be the one to do the wedding ceremony? That's fantastic.

Gabi: Yeah.

Sami: I can't believe-- it's perfect! It's all in the family.

Hope: Oh, Sami, the dress-- uh, were you able to take a fitting for the dress?

Sami: Yeah. Yeah, I did, actually, and since the ceremony isn't till after the holidays, I thought maybe we should schedule another fitting closer to--you know, for any adjustments.

Hope: Yeah.

Sami: Actually, that reminds me, I didn't get the chance to ask you--how far along are you?

Gabi: 11 or 12 weeks.

Sami: Ah.

Hope: What?

Sami: What? What's wrong?

Hope: [Clears throat] It's just that, uh-- well, I-I-I was talking to Nick yesterday, and he said it was more like, um, five to six weeks.

[Door closes]

Carla: Dr. Jonas, Jennifer Horton left this here when she checked out. I thought you might like to give this back to her personally.

Daniel: Uh, why don't you put that in ms. Horton's office? I won't be seeing her anytime soon. Thank you.

Jennifer: Abigail, sweetie, would I be able to have some toast with that tea also, please? Thank you. I love you. What I feel for you... [Chuckles] And it's not what you think. It's not pity, Daniel. It's love. I love you, Daniel. Oh, no. Oh, no. What have I done?

Abigail: Hey, mom, do you want, uh, herbal tea or something maybe with a little bit of caffeine in it? Mom? Are you okay?

Kate: Okay, I know I had my cell phone in the exam room. [Sighs] Where did it go?

Maxine: So... I hear next year is the five-year mark.

Kate: Yes. Cancer-free.

Maxine: Congratulations.

Kate: Well, you know, I don't want to take it for granted or anything, but, uh...

Maxine: Well, that's one of the big anniversaries.

Kate: I... I know. I will throw a huge party.

Maxine: Well, invite this one. [Both laugh] What a cutie-pie.

Kate: He is, isn't he? He can dance too.

Maxine: [Laughs]

Kate: That's my grandson-- parker.

Will: Hey.

Sonny: Hey.

Will: So I heard that, uh, you had a little chat with Gabi.

Sonny: Yeah. We talked.

Will: Okay. Wow. You're as weird about it as she is. So what happened between you two?

Sonny: Nothing.

Will: Okay, well, do you think--next time you see her, can you say something nice or something? Because she thinks that you don't like her.

Sonny: Well, she's right. I don't.

Gabi: Well, it's kind of hard to say, um, exactly this early--

Hope: No, no, no, Nick was pretty sure it was five to six weeks.

Gabi: I don't know where he got that. Um...

Rafe: You didn't tell him that?

Gabi: I don't think so.

Hope: Gabi, this--this is your child, your baby. You need to know when you're due.

Will: Is this really what you want? I mean, you want to marry Nick, and you want to raise my baby... like it--I mean, like it's his?

Rafe: Gabi... what's going on?

Gabi: Nothing.

Rafe: Why do you and Nick have different due dates for the baby?

Jennifer: Uh, yeah. Yeah, I'm fine.

Abigail: No. No, you're--you're not fine, not if you look like that. I'm calling dr. Jonas.

Jennifer: No! Uh, no, don't do that.

Abigail: Whoa.

Kate: All right, I give up. I must have left my cell in the exam room. I will be right back.

[Device buzzing]

Maxine: I'm coming.

Kate: Daniel.

Gabi: I-I don't know why Nick said six weeks, because we're not really--we're not really sure, but... we're gonna find out, right? I can go to the doctor and ask maybe what--

Rafe: "Maybe"? What do you mean "maybe"? There's no "maybe" about this. Listen, you want to be a good mom, you got to start--

Gabi: I will! Rafe, that's not even what we're talk-- Nick.

Nick: Hey. Hey.

Gabi: Um...

Nick: What's up?

Hope: Nick, hi. Uh, how far along is Gabi... in her pregnancy?

Nick: Well, I told you, like, five or six weeks.

Rafe: And how do you know that?

Nick: What is this?

Rafe: Well, Gabi says she's 12 weeks along.

Hope: I don't think any doctor's going to allow that much wiggle room in a due date, Nick.

Rafe: Hold on. Are you sure you're taking her to the doctor?

Nick: Yeah, of course.

Rafe: Okay. So what's the deal?

Nick: [Sighs] I'm sorry.

Gabi: No, no, no.

Nick: We knew this was a long shot, this...

Gabi: No, please.

Nick: It's not gonna work. We got to tell 'em the truth.

Daniel: Excuse me.

Jennifer: I-I'm sorry. I know that sounded, uh...

Abigail: Freaked out?

Jennifer: Loud... louder than I meant it to.

Abigail: Mom...

Jennifer: Please, just... don't call Daniel.

Abigail: He's your doctor. If you're not feeling well--

Jennifer: No, there's nothing wrong with my health. I promise you.

Abigail: Okay, then--then what's the problem? Is something going on with Daniel?

Daniel: [Exhales deeply]

Kate: So... you still think about parker, don't you? You haven't forgotten him.

Daniel: I will never forget parker.

Will: What? Come on. You don't like Gabi?

Sonny: She's a liar and a user. And I already told you, I don't think you should trust her.

Will: Well, yeah, I mean, I heard you the first time, but it doesn't really make any sense. Where is this animosity coming from?

Sonny: I have eyes. And I can see what she's--

Will: Did Chad talk to you? Dude... he's been trashing Gabi since Melanie left him. You can't really listen to a guy who's--

Sonny: I'm not saying that I'm listening to anyone. I'm watching Gabi... how she drags you into her baby drama.

Will: [Sighs] She didn't drag me into anything, okay? I'm her friend. And I really want to help her. I want to be there.

Sonny: That's because you're a good person. And you deserve better friends than that.

Will: Well, we--you know, we have the friends that we have, so...

Sonny: No, we can actually choose our friends.

Will: Yeah, so what you're saying is that I should just drop a friend when he or she becomes inconvenient.

Sonny: No, you should drop a friend when they don't deserve your loyalty anymore. Cut the cord, will. Lose Gabi's number. Get away from her... and never look back.

Gabi: I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

Nick: It's not your fault. It's--it's hard to keep up a lie like that.

Sami: Oh, boy.

Hope: What lie?

Nick: Well... [Sighs] We haven't exactly told you guys everything about the baby.

Rafe: So what are we missing?

Nick: Well, she was afraid to tell you. She was afraid of what you'd think, what everyone would think.

Gabi: Let's not do this, okay? We don't have to do this.

Nick: Yeah, we do. We do. Look, Gabi wasn't lying. Uh, she's--she's 12 weeks pregnant.

Hope: Then why did you say five or six weeks?

Nick: Because I was trying to protect her. We just figured that when the baby came, we'd say that it came early.

Hope: Okay, so, Gabi, if you're 12 weeks along, that means...

Nick: That Gabi and I got together... a lot sooner than everybody thought.

Rafe: So how soon was it?

Nick: Well, uh... I know "love at first sight" sounds kind of lame, but that's just what it was. I knew the second I saw Gabi--

Rafe: Yeah, so what's that? Like, first day out of the joint?

Nick: Mm, no. We, uh--we met here.

Rafe: Oh. Second day?

Sami: Okay, uh, Rafe--

Rafe: No, I'm just trying to get a clear picture here.

Gabi: No, no, no, okay, look, we both knew what we wanted, and we were both serious.

Rafe: Serious? Ser--serious about what? You didn't know squat about this guy. Wait. [Chuckles] I do take that back, because you knew that he was a convicted murderer out on parole and--

Hope: Rafe!

Rafe: Did that sound like a winner to you?

Hope: Enough!

Gabi: I knew that he was a good person, and I could feel--

Rafe: Yeah, I bet he could feel it too.

Hope: Excu--stop it, Rafe.

Rafe: You hit the frickin' Jackpot, didn't you, huh? Four years in prison, day you get out, you meet an innocent girl you can take advantage of.

Nick: That's not how it was.

Rafe: You know, you don't want to talk to me right now, okay? Not a word.

Will: Did you just... order me to stay away from Gabi?

Sonny: I didn't mean it like that, okay? I'm--I'm sorry. It's just I'm worried for you.

Will: No, Gabi is a good person, and she is my friend, okay? She would have every reason to hate me for the way that I treated her when we were dating, but she stayed loyal. And by the way, she's your biggest fan, okay? She was rooting for this relationship to work since the beginning. So, if that's not a real friend...

Sonny: Yeah, I mean, you have a lot of history between you two. I get that, all right? But sometimes, you know, especially when you're close to someone, you don't see the changes. You might think you know them, but you really don't.

Will: Mm-hmm. Oh, yeah, I hate it when that happens.

Sonny: [Sighs]

[Door opens, closes]

Hope: You are way out of line!

Rafe: Oh, really? So you think your cousin did the right thing here, hmm?

Hope: Maybe they should have shown a little more restraint. I mean, nobody thinks this is an ideal situation here. But look at them. I mean, obviously--look at them. They're very much in love.

Gabi: We are.

Hope: Has Nick tried to duck out... run? Has he even blinked about doing what's right?

Gabi: Not once.

Hope: You see, Rafe?

Nick: I'm--I'm really sorry that I lied about the timing. I take full responsibility for it. I just--I didn't want Gabi to catch grief for believing in me and for giving me a chance.

Rafe: A chance?

Nick: I love your sister, Rafe. I want to make a good home for her and our baby. I mean, isn't that what really matters?

Sami: Yes, uh, it is. And you know what? Um, I think what really matters is getting back to focusing on the wedding. And we are gonna just create a wedding of your dreams, Gabi. We really are.

Hope: Good idea.

Rafe: I got to go.

Gabi: Wait, Rafe, no--

Rafe: You know, I can't... I cannot believe... I can't do this.

[Door closes]

Daniel: I, uh... I know parker's not my son, if that's what you're worried about.

Kate: No, I, um... I understand that. I was just a little surprised because it looked like you hadn't seen the card.

Daniel: No, not yet. No, I hadn't.

Kate: Victor never showed it to you?

Daniel: No, no, victor and Maggie--they don't really talk about parker around me. You know, there's no pictures out at the house either. I'm sure it's because they know it, um... I don't know--might be hard for me. I don't know.

Kate: So when was the last time you saw parker?

Daniel: When Chloe took him to, uh, live in Chicago.

Kate: [Laughs] You're joking.

Daniel: You know, I have rounds.

Kate: I'm clean. My annual checkup... I'm still cancer-free.

Daniel: I'm glad.

Kate: I'm healthy because of you--I know that. You know, so matter what went on between the two of us, I'm still in remission because of your work... and I'm grateful to you for that. So that's why I'm going to offer you this, and it's not to be hurtful or to torture you, if you're interested.

Daniel: In what?

Kate: Do you want to know more about parker?

Jennifer: I went to see Daniel at smith island because I wanted to make things right after that horrible run-in that we had when we thought that the procedure had failed.

Abigail: Right, but you didn't get a chance because your appendix burst?

Jennifer: Right, and--and... it was hard, you know? It was just like this moment. It was just stripped down emotionally, and... and he was okay, and he could operate, and I was alive, and... and that's when I blew it. [Scoffs]

Abigail: How?

Jennifer: I told Daniel that I loved him.

Abigail: Do you?

Sami: All right, um, how about this? How about we plan the wedding a different day? I'll call you. Does that sound good? Is that okay?

Hope: Oh. Uh, yeah, yeah. That's, uh--I think that's a great idea.

Sami: Okay, good. Um, and I am gonna go find Rafe and see if I can't, you know, talk some sense into him, okay?

Gabi: Thank you.

Sami: Of course. Of course. Sweetheart, you take care of yourself and the baby. And, um, hang in there, all right? It'll be all right. It will.

Nick: I'm--I'm really sorry I lied to you.

Gabi: He did it to protect me.

Hope: I know. I know. I just... are you sure that the two of you are ready to jump into marriage? I mean, you're just taking on so much so fast.

Nick: I know that it--it seems like that, but, honestly, this is--this is what we want.

Gabi: It is.

Hope: Ain't love grand? You know what? Sami's right. We have got to plan you, um, a great wedding, beautiful... beautiful, beautiful wedding.

Nick: You're the best, hope.

Gabi: Thank you.

Sami: [Clears throat]

Rafe: How'd you find me?

Sami: [Chuckles] I just followed the steam coming out of your ears.

Rafe: Believe it or not, I'm actually a pretty good poker player. How's Gabi?

Sami: Upset... mortified that she's disappointed you.

Rafe: Oh, man, see, this is not what I wanted, Sami.

Sami: I know... but you're a tough man to disappoint.

Rafe: Well, it's not like I could stick around, okay? I was just gonna make things worse. I was gonna punch Nick in the face.

Sami: Well, that would have made things worse. You're right.

Rafe: But you heard him, right? I mean, he had sex with my sister, what, second day he's out of prison? I mean, I know what he's thinking, but her?

Sami: She probably wasn't thinking.

Rafe: Exactly. That's what scares me.

Sami: Look, what about what she was going through-- you know, the whole stalker thing and then the explosions in the tunnels. It was freaking her out, right?

Rafe: Yeah. Yeah, I just... it was a bad time for her. And where was I, right? Nowhere to be found. Look, you can't blame yourself.

Rafe: Well, it's on me, you know? I mean, I'm Gabi's only family, but does she turn to me? No, she turns to some ex-con, who in turn gets her in the sack.

Sami: Okay, okay, you have to cut Nick a break, all right? He is a good guy. And as hope said, he has done nothing but step up. Even lying about the baby-date thing--he just did that to protect Gabi.

Rafe: Yeah, or keep me from whipping his butt.

Sami: Oh, 'cause that would have fixed everything?

Rafe: Yeah. Yeah.

Sami: All right, it doesn't matter, all right? It doesn't matter how it happened. What matters is that they're in love now, right?

Rafe: Yeah? So?

Sami: Yeah, he loves her to pieces.

Rafe: Yeah, so what? That's not enough, Sami, okay? Love doesn't necessarily make a marriage work. We ought to know that.

Daniel: So he, uh--he turned two last month. Did you see him?

Kate: Yes, I did. Even though I don't get to Chicago as much as I like to, that was an occasion, and he is a handful.

Daniel: So--so, uh, he must be walking by now... uh, parker.

Kate: Yeah. He's walking. He's running. He's climbing. I mean, he takes apart everything that he can get his hands on. He is super curious.

Maxine: Dr. Dan... this is my favorite job today. Here's your surgery schedule for next week.

Kate: You're operating again.

Daniel: Yeah, there was this experimental treatment for my condition. Yeah.

Kate: And it was a success?

Maxine: And just in time. Out in the middle of nowhere, with nothing but a rusty knife and some string, and the man still manages to save Jennifer Horton's life. [Giggles]

Jennifer: I-I don't know how to answer that, really.

Abigail: Well, you said it, right? I mean, you told Daniel that you love him?

Jennifer: Honey, you know what? I was on drugs. I was loopy. I was in so much pain. I don't think I would have said that otherwise.

Abigail: Okay, but that's not really the question. Is it true? Are you still in love with Daniel?

Jennifer: I-I don't know if "in love" is the right phrase. I mean, I do. I-I love...Daniel. And--and I could love him again. And I don't know if I ever really stopped caring about him. Honey, I can't do this.

Abigail: What? Wait. Whoa, whoa, mom...

Jennifer: Don't you think this is really strange to have this conversation with your mother?

Abigail: No, I don't, actually--what I think is strange is that you're fighting this so much.

Jennifer: Honey, I'm fighting it, because to me, this feels like a betrayal of your father. And if you feel that way, I completely understand. Part of me agrees with you.

Nick: Okay. There are more marshmallows in here than--than I can count... millions, probably.

Gabi: Thank you.

Nick: You're welcome. It's pretty cold out here. Are you sure you should be out here?

Gabi: Yeah, I just want some air.

Nick: All right. Is this better?

Gabi: Mm-hmm. [Giggles]

Nick: Can I, um... can I ask you a question?

Gabi: Yeah.

Nick: Why did you tell them about how far along you are?

Gabi: Well, because I'm an idiot, because we were talking about the dresses, and then it popped out. And I was trying to take it back, but I made it worse. And so I'm just--I'm sorry.

Nick: It's okay. In a strange way, it's--it's almost like a blessing, you know? Because now we don't have to lie about the timing when the baby's actually born.

Gabi: Yeah, that's something. Thank you for bailing me out.

Nick: Well, glad I could help.

Gabi: I was so scared, because I thought you were gonna tell them about will. You were, like, dragging it out.

Nick: Well, what was I supposed to do? I had to make it seem like a big deal, otherwise they weren't gonna believe me.

Gabi: Yeah, well, they did.

Nick: Yeah.

Gabi: Okay.

Nick: I'm sorry about Rafe.

Gabi: Well, I mean, I'm just glad he didn't take a swing at you.

Nick: I'd take another punch for you... any day of the week. I think what's tougher...

Gabi: Is the judgment.

Nick: Yeah.

Gabi: You know, that--that look, that... "I'm so disappointed in you, I can't even look at your face."

Nick: He wasn't being fair to you.

Gabi: Well, it's not like he hasn't had reason. It's just... that look. It's like--it's like a knife.

Sami: [Clears throat]

Rafe: I'm sorry. Sorry, that sounded a bit, uh...

Sami: Harsh?

Rafe: Okay, I'm not blaming anyone. I'm just saying, sometimes it takes more than love to make a marriage work.

Sami: Well, you're definitely right about that. There is obviously no guarantee. But they do love each other. And they don't have a lot of baggage. And they both are very excited about this baby, so it sounds like they have a lot that's in their favor.

Rafe: Maybe. I hope so.

Sami: Well, then why don't you help make it so?

Rafe: Okay, well, I'm not trying to make things harder on anyone.

Sami: Good. Then just wish them well.

Rafe: I do. I do. It would... be nice to see love work out for someone.

Sami: [Sighs]

Kate: So you are back in the hero business again.

Daniel: It was just an appendectomy. It's a simple surgery.

Kate: Out in the middle of nowhere with a rusty knife and string.

Daniel: Yeah, Maxine--she likes drama. I was out on smith island. There were medical supplies, nothing rusty.

Kate: Hmm. Still, I'm sure Jennifer is pretty grateful.

Daniel: Well, she--she's the one who told me about the treatment for my hands, so...

Kate: Oh.

Daniel: Yeah, we're, uh-- we're even. Yeah.

Kate: I see. So you're just, like, good buddies and help each other out?

Daniel: Well, there could be worse ways to be.

Kate: You're still in love with her, aren't you?

Daniel: It's really none of your business, is it?

Kate: Oh. [Sighs] I am butting in, aren't I? But a long time ago, I did tell you that she would never get over Jack.

Daniel: That was a lifetime ago.

Kate: I know. A lot has happened since then. But I was right, wasn't I?

Abigail: Mom... you loved dad. Everyone knows that.

Jennifer: Yeah. And you, um... you were just starting to get so close again, you know.

Abigail: Yeah. It's funny--it seems like... I miss him more the longer it is... like it becomes more real.

Jennifer: I know. It's crazy, because sometimes I feel like he's--he's just on a really long trip, and he's gonna be coming back.

Abigail: I know. But he's gone. And you cannot stop living your life because of it. Mom, dad wouldn't want that.

Jennifer: You're so amazing. Oh, my sweet girl. And you know what? I'm not. I-I won't stop living.

Abigail: Good. Good. Then... if you care about Daniel, then he should know.

Jennifer: How--how do you feel about that?

Abigail: Me? I feel relieved, mom, that you'll be happy again.

Jennifer: Really?

Abigail: Yes.

Jennifer: Really?

Abigail: Yes. Daniel is a good guy, and it's obvious that he cares about you a lot... if you're ready. That's the real question... are you ready to move on?

Rafe: Will. Hey.

Will: Hi.

Rafe: Glad I found you.

Will: Oh, yeah.

Rafe: Yeah, I need to talk to you about the day you took Gabi to the abortion clinic.

Will: Oh, um... maybe you want to talk to Gabi about that?

Rafe: Yeah, I already talked to Nick and Gabi about that. I know the real story.

Sonny: Here's your cappuccino--light foam.

Sami: Thank you.

Sonny: You're welcome.

Sami: How are you? How are things?

Sonny: Busy. You know, I got a lot on my mind lately.

Sami: I totally know what you mean, with work and, of course, the holidays, and now I'm planning this wedding and... a referee at the same time.

Sonny: A referee?

Sami: Well, you know, with a wedding, there's always people who are stressed out. But, um, I just try to focus on the fun, right?

Sonny: Mm-hmm.

Sami: And you heard that will is gonna be best man?

Sonny: Yeah, he told me.

Sami: Yeah. Well... bridal party's set, but there's still a list of things to do a mile long, and, you know, it's just... you're a friend of Nick and Gabi's. Would you be an usher? How does that sound?

Sonny: Hell, no.

Will: Okay. You must be angry.

Rafe: Obviously.

Will: And nobody planned for this to happen.

Rafe: [Chuckles] Yeah, no kidding.

Will: And it was stupid not to think about the--the possible consequences.

Rafe: Yeah, well, she could have used a little judgment, right? Thought about who she was sleeping with.

Will: She was with a man who really cares about her.

Rafe: You think so? Well, how well do you really know your cousin anymore?

Will: What?

Rafe: I mean, he was a teenager last time you saw him, right? I mean, he gets out of prison-- he's out of prison one day, one day, and he ends up sleeping with my sister? Great. Yeah. Cut to three months later, she's pregnant... getting married.

Will: Yeah. It's, uh--it's unfortunate. It's intense.

Rafe: Did you talk to her? Did you know she was in trouble?

Will: Yeah. Well, yeah. But, listen, I mean... Gabi and Nick didn't get together because she was in a crisis or anything. Gabi loves him, right? So I don't know--what do you think is wrong?

Rafe: She was... too alone. I got to ask you something, will. When she asked you to take her to the abortion clinic... do you think Gabi asked because of me? Was she afraid that I was gonna be disappointed in her?

Kate: I do feel compassion, and maybe it's because we're... we're both in the same boat, since I just had my heart broken. I, um... tracked Stefano down in Europe, and we had it out, and... the marriage is over. So enjoy.

Daniel: T-that's... I'm sorry.

Kate: Oh... please. Seriously, it's--it's... way too much work to pretend, 'cause it's pointless. I mean, I know how all of you felt about that marriage. It's... [Sighs]

Daniel: Still, it looks like it hurts.

Kate: I have to get to work.

Daniel: Kate... thank you... for telling me about parker.

Kate: Merry Christmas.

Jennifer: [Chuckles] [Sniffles] [Sighs] Abigail? I'm going out, sweetie.

Sami: That was sort of blunt.

Sonny: I'm--I'm sorry. It's just not my thing.

Sami: Um, weddings?

Sonny: Yeah. Yeah. I'm just not good with them.

Sami: 'Cause you and Gabi and Nick are friends, right?

Sonny: We're not that close. That's why they didn't ask me.

Sami: No, it's not. That's not it at all. They're just overwhelmed with everything. They totally would have asked you. It's just--they're busy.

Sonny: No, it's--like, really, it's--it's fine. Like I said, I got a lot going on, and I think it's better this way. But thank you.

Sami: But... [Sighs]

Nick: What?

Gabi: I don't know--I mean, do you think it gets easier? At some point, we don't have to actively lie to our family and friends. Do you think that they're actually going to stop asking us questions all the time?

Nick: Yeah. I think that's exactly what will happen. We just have to get through pre-cana.

Gabi: Oh, great, great. Lying to a priest-- I forgot that one.

Nick: Yeah, lying to a priest. Get through the wedding.

Gabi: Lying to God.

Nick: Hey, I love you. And I love this baby. That's not a lie.

Gabi: I love you too.

Nick: It'll get easier, baby. I swear. It's much better from here on out.

Rafe: Was Gabi so scared of how I'd react about Nick that she thought an abortion was the only way out?

Will: No. No, uh... that wasn't it. It was really about whether or not to have the baby.

Rafe: She didn't come to me.

Will: Well, yeah, of course not--you're her big brother.

Rafe: All right. So she thought I'd be a Jackass and storm around.

Will: No, she never-- she would never say that. I'm just saying that sometimes I think it's easier to go to... you know, friends for... some things.

Rafe: Right. Thanks.

Will: Mm.

Rafe: I know I gave you a hard time about taking her to the clinic. I was wrong. I'm glad Gabi has you as a friend. See you.

Jennifer: Hey. Oh, you're still here. Thank goodness.

Daniel: Hey, I thought you, uh--you were discharged.

Jennifer: Yeah, I was, but... I had to come back. I had to see you.
