Episode #11975 ~ Daniel Goes to Smith Island While Jennifer & Nicole Both Look For Him
Provided By Suzanne
Nicole: Eric. Yo, Eric! Sister Anne, h-have you seen father Eric? Right, right, I know he said he'd been up all night. Yes, I can try to keep from bellowing. Wouldn't want to disturb him. [Growls]
Eric: No... please... don't.
Nicole: She's only trying to help. I am a center of calm and understanding. And I don't--
Eric: Please don't. Don't. Please. No! No!
Jennifer: Don't you recognize me?
Abigail: Barely. Did you just get out of bed?
Jennifer: Mm, no. I've been up since 3:00 and... and, like, 4:00 and 4:30, 5:00.
Abigail: Oh, no.
Jennifer: Oh. My stomach just feels horrible, and I can't keep anything down.
Abigail: Do you think you have a stomach bug or something?
Jennifer: Mm-mm. It's just me... and what I've done, and it's just eating me up inside.
Abigail: Mom, don't.
Jennifer: I'm sorry. I can't help it. Daniel's never gonna be a surgeon again... and it's my fault.
[Tea kettle thuds loudly]
[Knock at door]
Maggie: Well, I-I thought I'd come up with a good excuse for stopping by before I got here, but I--but I didn't.
Daniel: You don't need one.
Kristen: Someone's about to get the shock of their life, and I can't wait.
EJ: Oh, a little act of vengeance to start off your day.
Kristen: Well, let's just say that everything I've put into motion by coming back to Salem is coming together perfectly.
EJ: See, that sounds suspiciously like somebody who has a plan, and yet you denied that.
Kristen: Of course I had a plan. But then I got thrown a curve, and the whole thing kind of blew up.
EJ: Well, you seem ecstatic.
Kristen: Because it's so much better than anything I had in mind. And it's about to come to a head in the most perfect way. I mean, it's just so beautiful, I could cry.
Marlena: I don't think that you're having an affair with Kristen.
John: Good. That's settled.
Marlena: But there's-- there's something that I have to tell you. And you're going to hate it.
John: All right, tell me. I can take it.
[Door opens] Doc?
Marlena: It's about Brady.
Daniel: I'm--I'm--I'm okay.
Maggie: Truly? How can that be?
Jennifer: I just feel like I have ruined Daniel's life.
Maggie: It shouldn't have happened.
Daniel: It was a gamble.
Maggie: A gamble you took because Jennifer pushed so hard.
Abigail: All you were trying to do was help Daniel.
Jennifer: It doesn't matter what I intended. The reality is, is that he is devastated. And it's all my fault.
Daniel: No, this is not Jennifer's fault. I'm a doctor. I understood the risks. It was my decision--mine.
Maggie: You had made that decision about that procedure already. And if she hadn't brought it up again--
Daniel: Mom. Mom.
Maggie: Okay. Okay, fine. Did you get any sleep?
Daniel: No, I did not get any sleep. This one right here, Melanie, she called. She was--I mean, she couldn't wait to hear. She was--she was excited for me to be a surgeon again.
Maggie: Oh, Daniel.
Daniel: Ah, it was a mistake. I shouldn't have told her. I shouldn't have told her until I knew that the procedure would work.
Maggie: But there is still a chance that it could. You might be one of those ones that--that have a delayed reaction to this treatment.
Daniel: No, no, no, no, stop.
Maggie: Well, there's a chance. There's always a chance.
Daniel: Do you even know what the numbers are on that? No, I am not gonna live with false hope--not doing it. No, I will, uh--I will accept where I'm at.
Maggie: So what are you gonna do?
Abigail: What will Daniel do now?
EJ: Well, thank you. That is all wonderfully cryptic and unhelpful.
Kristen: Sorry, EJ. I just don't want to jinx it.
EJ: This is still about you and John?
Kristen: In a way, yeah.
EJ: Okay, but he is still your objective?
Kristen: No, it's over. I told you that.
Kristen: Yes. Trust me. This is gonna be clear to everyone very soon.
John: You want to talk about Brady?
Marlena: No, I don't want to, but we have to. We're in the middle of a situation here that's--
John: There's no situation.
Marlena: John, actually--
John: He doesn't agree with you about Kristen--that's all. So he's backed off her.
Marlena: Well, no, actually--
John: We're gonna be fine. You know, you don't need Brady following Kristen around looking for trouble, and I don't need him mixed up in this.
Marlena: John, he is already. Brady is--
Brady: Brady's what?
John: Hey, kid.
Maggie: Come here. Come--stop. You have patients. You're a doctor.
Daniel: I know. I know.
Maggie: Well, you know what I think the best medicine for you is? Just get yourself to that hospital to see how many people need you very much exactly the way you are.
Daniel: No, no, no, no. Not yet. No.
Maggie: Well, then what are you going to do?
Daniel: I don't know. I'm gonna take a few hours off, a few days. Who knows? Whatever it takes--that's what I'm gonna do.
Maggie: Oh, yeah, well, are you sure that's the best thing?
Daniel: I just cannot see Jennifer. I mean, that look in her face-- the pity, it's suffocating.
Maggie: Granted that's not what you wanted from her at all.
Daniel: Or from anyone. I just hope that... I mean, whatever could have been, this--this thing... just killed it.
Maggie: Well, maybe in time.
Daniel: No. No. No, there is no chance for us.
[Tea kettle whistles]
Jennifer: There's so many things that I wanted to say to him, you know? He--he has no idea how I really feel.
Abigail: Oh? And how is that?
Jennifer: I just--I'm sorry. I'm sorry for what happened, and I want to make it up to him somehow, but I know that's ridiculous. I can't give him back what he lost. And I need to get to the hospital. He's on duty.
Abigail: Wait. Right now? You're gonna go like this?
Jennifer: No, honey, I'm not gonna go like this. I'm gonna get dressed and--
Abigail: No, I know. That's not what I meant. I hope so, but don't you want to take some time with this, sleep on it?
Jennifer: No, I can't. I can't. I have to make this right.
Nicole: Hey. Um, I thought I-I heard... shouting from your room.
Eric: What? Where?
Nicole: You know, shouting and--and yelling or something. Um, I... I guess I heard it through the-- the vents.
Eric: You're listening at vents?
Nicole: I-I couldn't help it. It was so loud. You didn't hear it?
Eric: No, I was sleeping.
Nicole: You slept? You really don't look very rested.
Eric: You know what? Just back off, Nicole.
Nicole: Oh. Okay.
EJ: How can that be when John was your goal--the reason you came here, and the only thing that you care about?
Kristen: I'm here for my family.
EJ: [Laughs] Yeah. Still not buying that.
Kristen: Hmm. So how are things with Sami?
Kristen: Yeah. Done talking about me. How's Sami?
EJ: [Sighs] I don't know that there's really anything else to tell you, frankly, you know. I had an opening. Things are beginning to grow, undisturbed. And I have a feeling that things will work out to my advantage. I could do with Hernandez not sticking his nose in.
Kristen: Hmm, well, I'm sure you can arrange that.
EJ: I can. But I thought you might like to help.
Kristen: Help how? Oh, come on... you're not suggesting that I pursue the detective?
EJ: What? No. Look, I thought it might be to your advantage to spend a little bit of time with him. I mean, you're in a much better position than I am to, you know, poke around.
Kristen: [Laughing] You just want a decoy to keep him away from Sami...
Kristen: Don't you?
EJ: People tell me he's a very handsome fellow, you know, if you like the blue-collar, gun-toting sort of thing.
Kristen: It's so lame, I can't believe you actually attempted it. You're perfectly capable of getting back with Sami on your own. And, besides, my plate-- incredibly full right now... incredibly.
Marlena: You're here.
Brady: I'm here. Yeah. Good morning. Dad, how you doing?
John: We're just starting our day. You coming to lunch?
Brady: Yeah, yeah, with Eric, right? I am looking forward to catching up with him.
John: Yeah, excuse me. Oh, boy. It's a buyer. Better take this.
Brady: All right. I'll keep Marlena company.
John: Yeah, all right.
Brady: [Sighs] So how are you? You okay? You seem a little--a little off.
Marlena: I'm off.
Brady: Is it trouble with-- with dad? You didn't tell him about breaking into Kristen's room, did you?
Marlena: No, no, that's not an issue. How are you?
Brady: I'm good. I'm really good. I'm--I'm great, actually. Did you--wait, did you mean my head--my concussion? I'm fine. I have my last follow-up appointment today with the doctor.
John: That's one fire put out.
Brady: Uh, let me guess-- Hutchins, right?
John: How'd you know?
Brady: Are you kidding me? That guy--he calls every time this holiday season. He's a pain in the neck.
John: Freaked out.
Brady: That's him, right?
John: Yeah, every season...
Brady: I know. I know.
John: Every order-- it's the same thing. If it weren't so pathetic, it'd be funny.
Brady: If it's not him, it's his wife calling, and they have the same issue every year.
Nicole: Eric... I'm sorry... if I offended you. Like I said, I-I just thought I heard something--
Eric: No, I know what you thought, but can we just drop it?
Eric: Listen, can you do something for me?
Nicole: Yeah. That's why I'm here.
Eric: Justin Kiriakis--he needed this to set up the 501c3 to set up the school building fund.
Nicole: Okay, do you need a messenger?
Eric: This is a church, Nicole. We can't waste money like that. So, if you could just, you know, take it over there, that'd be great.
Nicole: To his office?
Eric: Well, to the Kiriakis mansion. Justin wanted it to be at home.
Nicole: [Chuckles] Okay. Sure. All right, without sounding like a broken record, and I know I've been saying this a lot lately, but I really shouldn't show my face at victor's house.
Eric: Wait, isn't that old news?
Nicole: Yeah. Yeah, we loathe each other, and it's very ugly and very mutual, but he's not the problem. It's Maggie, Daniel's mother. I think she'll turn the dogs on me.
Eric: Well, haven't you asked Maggie for forgiveness?
Nicole: Yeah, that's never gonna happen.
Eric: Not until you ask.
Nicole: Oh. When is this gonna get easier?
Eric: When you face it. Take responsibility.
Nicole: Yeah, you want to know what sucks about that? Every time I have to take responsibility, I'm reminded all over again that it was me, that I screwed up any chance that I ever had of being with Daniel.
Daniel: You know, whatever happened to "you work so hard-- you need to take some time off"?
Maggie: Well, who said that? [Chuckles] So... what will you do?
Daniel: I don't know. I guess I'll, uh... take off for a while.
Maggie: How does a deserted island sound?
Daniel: Pretty damn good. What'd you, um--what'd you have in mind?
Maggie: The Horton cabin on smith island. We store all the emergency medical supplies for the lake islands out there. They need to be updated, um... expired medications replaced, you know, things like that.
Daniel: So you're sending me to a portable hospital, right?
Maggie: Well, if you'd be a dear.
Daniel: You know, you are just determined to get me working--is that it?
Maggie: Well, it's a big help. It would be a big help. The lake--it's so beautiful in the winter.
Daniel: [Chuckles] That's what I've heard.
Maggie: And quiet... no Wi-Fi, no cell tower. Nobody can call. Nobody can bug you.
Daniel: There you go. Sold. [Chuckles] Yeah. You know what? Thank you for taking care of me.
Maggie: At long last. [Chuckles] I'm glad I finally can... son.
Daniel: Ah, come here.
Maggie: [Sniffles, whimpers]
John: So, listen, you get bored at titan, you come on home to basic black, all right? Keep your hand in there.
Brady: I would like to. Just busy these days, you know.
John: Yeah, I hear you. Oh, doc, doc, we're done talking shop here.
Marlena: It's okay. I really have to go.
John: No, I know that you wanted a moment alone. Please. Son, if you don't mind.
Brady: Oh, no, I don't mind at all.
Marlena: No, I-I'm late. I'm--I'm really late. I'll talk to you later, hmm?
Brady: Sorry about that.
John: No, it's not your fault. Just... things have been a little tense.
Brady: Is there anything I can do to help?
EJ: Expecting a call?
John: Nope. This one's on me. Kristen and I had another incident, and doc misunderstood.
Brady: What--what kind of incident?
John: Ah, it's totally innocent. But whenever Marlena hears that Kristen and I touched each other for any reason whatsoever, she's not happy about it. You know, we just agreed not to talk about Kristen anymore, and then this thing happens, but, you know, it'll all blow over.
Brady: Yeah. I mean, maybe. I mean, as long as you and Kristen don't see each other anymore.
John: [Scoffs] That's the plan.
Brady: Yeah. Listen, uh, dad, I, uh--I got to do some follow-up for granddad from a meeting.
John: Yeah, yeah, I got to take off. I got to clean up some work too. I'll see you later?
Brady: Yeah, I'll see you at lunch.
John: Sounds good.
Brady: All right.
[Cell phone rings]
EJ: There it is.
Kristen: I got to take this.
EJ: You're not gonna share that with me?
Kristen: I'm not gonna share it with you, no. No, you got to go, okay? Later, we'll share and champagne and everything like that, okay? Okay, love you--mean it. Hello?
Brady: Are you ready for a surprise?
Daniel: Okay, and make sure the surgical on call gets that P.T.T. Result, all right? No way should they even think about cutting him open until that's back in line. Dr. Bloom--he will be covering for me. Any questions--they go right to him.
Maxine: You won't have a phone?
Daniel: There is no phone service on smith island. So you guys'll be fine just without--without me. Trust me.
Maxine: Not really.
Daniel: 'Cause I'm so indispensable?
Maxine: We didn't just love you for those hands, dr. D. You got some serious skills. And we need them all.
Daniel: Me and my serious skills--we will be back soon, all right? So keep everyone in line for me?
Maxine: Did you just put me in charge? I want it in writing.
Daniel: Who doesn't know that you're the boss? 'Cause, girl, you run this ship.
Maxine: You forgot to sign out, doctor.
Daniel: Thank you.
Jennifer: That's the vacation log. Are you taking a leave?
Daniel: Yeah, just for a-- for a few days.
Jennifer: Oh. Well, that's good. I'm glad I got here when I did. I mean, I meant to get here earlier.
Daniel: Are you feeling all right?
Jennifer: No. Listen, I-I just wanted to say, w-when you said to me that--that you see pity in my eyes when I look at you, I just wanted to tell you that that is not true. When I look at you, that is not what I feel, I swear.
Daniel: Okay, I-I-I can't-- I can't do this. I won't.
Kristen: Okay. Shock me.
Brady: I can't stop thinking about you. I have a lunch, and then I'm coming over, okay?
Kristen: We have to be careful. What if your family finds out?
Brady: They won't.
Kristen: How can you be so sure?
Brady: Because I can handle them.
Kristen: Look, Brady, I would hate to be the problem with you all. I mean, I just couldn't live with it.
Brady: [Sighs] You won't. Besides, they're so busy with their own stuff, they won't even--they won't even know what's going on.
Kristen: How do you know?
Brady: I just spoke with John and Marlena, all right? Trust me. I'm the last thing on their minds.
Marlena: What in the world? Brady does not know that I saw them. And Kristen didn't tell him. What in the world is she thinking?
Kristen: You saw John and Marlena this morning?
Brady: Yeah. Yeah. Just now at the square.
Brady: And what? I didn't tell them, Kristen.
Kristen: And they didn't suspect anything? Are you sure?
Brady: I'm positive. I have a very good poker face. We'll play some time. I'll clean you out.
Kristen: Yeah, I'm here.
Brady: I'm coming to your room after lunch. Don't say no.
Kristen: Okay. I'll see you a little later. Why didn't Marlena tell John? This was the perfect setup. I'm not gonna let that bitch screw things up for me. No.
Maggie: Henderson? Okay, well...
Nicole: Uh, special delivery for Justin from St. Luke's.
Maggie: Thank you. Thank you.
Nicole: Maggie, can I come in?
Maggie: Um, no one's here.
Nicole: I-I want to see you.
Maggie: I have to get to a meeting.
Nicole: Please, I-it won't take long. I just--I really need to make amends with you.
Maggie: You would know the magic word. Come in, Nicole.
Nicole: Thank you. Look, I know that you don't really want to hear anything from me, but I-I just need you to know how sorry I am for what I did to Daniel and Jennifer. And--and I... I told them that. And if I could go back and do it all over again--
Maggie: Um, I really have to get that. Nicole, look, I-I get your drift. So thank you. Um, and, please, um... you can show yourself out.
Nicole: Through the doggy door.
Maggie: Hi, hope. Oh, Daniel has come to the rescue. He's gonna be taking the medical supplies out to smith island today. Listen, is there any food in the cabin? Uh-huh. Okay, well, I'll tell him. Oh, no, he actually was happy to have a couple days all to himself.
Nicole: Eric, Eric, Eric, Eric. Ah. "Now I have... a sick friend. Don't expect me... back tonight."
Eric: EJ. You, uh--you just saved me a call. The building fund--they would like to know if they could get a photo of you making your donation for the brochure. Would you be willing?
EJ: The building fund would like to use a DiMera for P.R.?
Eric: I'm sure they'll refer to you as "former mayor."
EJ: Of course. I'm assuming this is to solicit funds from outside of town.
Eric: A man who knows fund-raising.
EJ: [Laughs] Well, a little bit.
Eric: I'm hoping that your sister Kristen and I will have a decent working relationship, given that she's on the board.
EJ: Um, yes, I know she wants exactly the same thing. She thinks very highly of you.
EJ: And I know she's determined to make sure that everything runs smoothly.
Eric: I want us to get along, EJ. I-I know that can be a challenge, given the tension between our families.
EJ: Oh, I think you and Kristen will rise to the occasion. In fact, uh, I'm certain of it.
Kristen: I am so glad I found you.
Marlena: I'll bet you are.
Kristen: Well, we can't avoid it, right? It happened, so...
Marlena: I can't talk to you.
Kristen: Marlena... I know you saw us--Brady and me in that private moment. I mean, you looked me right in the eye--kind of awkward. But I want you to understand that it was just one of those things, you know. It just kind of happened.
Marlena: Shut your lying mouth.
Jennifer: Oh. Hey, Maxine.
Maxine: Oh, hey.
Maxine: The man's right. You do look like hell.
Jennifer: What? Did Daniel say that?
Maxine: Well, close enough.
Jennifer: Maxine, listen, I-I am so worried about him.
Maxine: Yeah, me too.
Jennifer: Okay, but I-I can't help him if I don't know where he's gone. But I am sure that he told you. Maxine, why aren't you saying anything? He hates me, right? Is that what it is?
Maxine: He didn't say that.
Jennifer: Then what?
Maxine: He didn't say anything about you.
Jennifer: Okay, great. Then--then he won't mind if you tell me where he's gone, right? God, Maxine, listen to me. I-I am relentless, okay? So--so being resistant is futile. I will follow you around this stupid hospital.
Maxine: Oh, wait a minute. It really doesn't take all of that. Nobody said it was a secret. Daniel's gone to smith island to take some supplies to the Horton cabin.
Jennifer: Great. Thank you. Thank you so much.
Daniel: [Shivers] [Sighs] [Chuckles] Ooh. All right. Good.
Maggie: Dr. Jonas, do you have a minute?
Maggie: I want to thank you. When you operated on Philip, you saved more lives than just his. I-I don't think that victor Kiriakis would have survived losing his son. So, um, get ready. He's gonna be very grateful.
Daniel: It was a pretty straightforward surgery, so...
Maggie: Well, that's not what I hear. The doctors around here talk to me, and I heard how close it came. We're very lucky to have a surgeon with your skill and your heart on board.
Daniel: Let's get this done.
[Knock at door]
Daniel: I'm--I'm, uh... I'm speechless.
Nicole: Well, you don't have to talk. But you shouldn't be alone.
Daniel: I'm okay.
Nicole: No, you're not.
Daniel: Look, I'm really not fit for any company, let alone--
Nicole: Okay, look, I-I won't bother you, I swear. I'll just--I'll just... sit by the fire and--and read.
Daniel: You'll read?
Nicole: Yeah. I actually know how to do it, and I even like it. [Chuckles] Look, I-I will stay out of your way, but I'll--I'll be here, just in case.
Daniel: I don't need help. I don't. I just--I need space, and I need a lot of it.
Nicole: And you'll get it. You'll get it.
Daniel: Nicole, look, t-t-there's a ferry. It's coming in, like, a half hour. So, if you would just please--
Daniel: A branch fell down on the generator. All right, I'm gonna, uh, get that off there. I'll be just a minute.
Nicole: Take your time.
Maggie: Oh. Well, that's what I like to see.
Brady: Oh, Maggie, what are you up to?
Maggie: [Laughs] Oh, I'm off to a hospital auxiliary meeting.
Brady: You do such good work. It's crazy.
Maggie: I like to stay busy.
Brady: Yeah. What?
Maggie: Brady, you're glowing.
Brady: I'm glowing? Really?
Maggie: Yes, you are. I--you look more alive than I've seen you in ages.
Brady: Well, I-I'm happy, I guess. No, I'm--I'm very happy. I feel great. I feel like my life is turning around.
Marlena: Don't pretend that being with Brady was an accident.
Kristen: Oh, I never expected to be with Brady.
Marlena: It--it didn't just happen. Nothing ever just happens with you. It was a plan. And I'm gonna figure out what your plan is and why you're doing it.
Kristen: I am so uncomfortable with your paranoia.
Marlena: Is it because you couldn't have John? Is that why you pulled that stupid lipstick stunt?
Kristen: Marlena, you of all people should know that the heart wants what the heart wants, darn it.
Marlena: So, when you couldn't get John into bed, what... you decide to settle for Brady?
Kristen: You really think so little of Brady?
Marlena: I think so little of you. I think you're vile.
Kristen: 'Cause I got to tell you, he's amazing-- I mean, amazing.
Marlena: You know what? It stops now. Brady is far too fragile for your stunts.
Marlena: And I'm gonna make sure it ends now.
Kristen: Does that mean you're gonna tell John?
Nicole: Ooh. Yeah. We could I really make this work. Ooh.
[Knock at door]
Nicole: Did you lock yourself out? Hey--
Eric: I don't want to keep you.
EJ: It wasn't my idea... just so that you know. When Samantha came with me and we gave you the donation, she was a little bit heavy-handed in selling me.
Eric: Sami, heavy-handed? No, I've never seen that before.
EJ: I understand she had a few choice words, uh, with you about Nicole as well.
Eric: It's nothing new. I mean, I wouldn't feel like home if my sister and I weren't fighting about something.
EJ: Really? It's always been that way?
Eric: If at first awake, yes.
EJ: Okay. And you just shrug it off, do you?
Eric: It's the only way to keep your sanity. What are you trying to ask me, EJ?
EJ: Look, father, I know that this is none of my business. And I don't know you. But I do know Nicole. And I think that you would be very wise to listen to your sister. Nicole does not change. Know that. She may be, uh, portraying herself as this humble... penitent person, but that is a facade. She is up to her old tricks. You will see that.
Nicole: I can't believe you showed up here.
Jennifer: Really? What are you doing here?
Nicole: Helping Daniel.
Jennifer: What, off a cliff, Nicole?
Nicole: No, you've done that already, Jennifer. How could you?
Jennifer: I don't know.
Nicole: You don't know? You had a chance with Daniel, and you did this instead? He's in pieces.
Jennifer: I know. You don't have to tell me.
Nicole: Daniel doesn't need you for anything.
Jennifer: I just want to speak to him for a couple minutes.
Nicole: Jennifer, he came to an island with no phones. He doesn't want to talk to you. You should leave before he gets back.
Jennifer: You do not speak for Daniel. You don't know what he thinks.
Nicole: He can't stand to look at your face! That's what he told me not five minutes ago. Look, Jennifer, believe me, I don't like being mean to you. But you need to take a hint. Daniel hates you. So do yourself a favor and go.
Maggie: So what's turning your life around, Brady? Oh, promise me it's legal.
Brady: It's legal, Maggie.
Maggie: Okay, whew.
Brady: Absolutely. No, I-it's not just one thing. It's--it's more the way things are all coming together. I've had a few, uh... surprises lately.
Maggie: Well, that's--that's not always good. I mean, anything that throws you, I mean--I mean, maybe you're letting your guard down when you shouldn't.
Brady: Maggie, Maggie, I'm solid. I'm good.
Maggie: Good. So... can you say anything else?
Brady: No, that's all you're getting right now. But I--but I can tell you that the future looks... how do I say this? Uh... interesting.
John: She said, "does that mean you're telling John?"
Kristen: Oh, God.
Marlena: Hi, honey. When did you get here?
John: Oh, just in time, I guess.
Kristen: Go on. Just get it over with.
