Episode #11966 ~ Nicole Confides in Eric; Nick is Stunned by Sami's News that Gabi is Pregnant

Sami: Look, it's clear how you feel about Gabi, but you have to cut Rafe some slack. I mean, it's not a thrill to find out that his sister is pregnant.
Sami: Oh, my God.
Nick: Gabi's pregnant?
Sami: I thought you knew. I thought she told you. I mean, I never would've said anything if I--
Nick: Are you sure about this? No, um, I didn't know anything.
[Knock at door]
Rafe: Gabi. Where the hell is she? [Sighs] I gotta find her.
Will: Okay, I got 150 from Sonny. I still need 50 more dollars.
Lucas: Which one of you is gonna tell me what's going on here?
Will: Um, we need--it's for a project for school.
Lucas: Ah, that must be some project if you need that much money. You know what? I think we need to talk. We need to talk in private.
Hope: Everything looks great.
Jennifer: Good. I haven't hosted the book club meeting, it feels like, in forever.
Hope: It's okay, Cuz. No one's expected you to.
Jennifer: Yeah, but this is good. I'm glad we're doing it. Feels good.
Jennifer: And doing it right before the holidays, perfect.
Jennifer: Oh! And here they are.
Hope: There you go.
Jennifer: Billie. Hi! Come on in.
Billie: Thanks. Listen, before we get started here today, I owe you the biggest apology.
Nicole: Do you realize how long we've been in here talking?
Eric: You had a lot to tell me.
Nicole: Would've been a lot easier to just tell you the short, short version.
Eric: Which is?
Nicole: I've been through Hell. I'm sorry. [Exhales] Can I say that in a rectory?
Eric: In this case, yes.
Nicole: You know this whole town is judging me.
Eric: I'm sure it feels that way, but really--
Nicole: It--of course it feels that way. The people of Salem have nothing better to gossip about than me, and my loss of my baby, and how it happened, and when it happened, and blaming Jennifer. I mean, are you kidding?
Eric: I'm not judging you.
Nicole: Of course, you are. How can you not? You know what? I'll just throw on the fact that I've lost Daniel forever, and Nicole has officially won the sad sack of the year award.
Eric: Nicole, stop doing this to yourself.
Nicole: Well, just admit it, Eric. You hate me now, just like everybody else in this town.
Nick: I-I don't--I don't believe this. She's--she's pregnant?
Sami: Yeah. I mean, obviously, you and Gabi haven't been dating that long, and you have been through so much. This has got to be a lot to take in all of a sudden. Maybe that's why Gabi didn't say anything right away.
Nick: Why did she say something to you?
Sami: She didn't mean to. She didn't mean for me to know. I just was with her when she found out.
Nick: When she fainted? When they took her tests at the hospital?
Nick: [Exhales] Oh, my God.
Sami: Yeah. Well, you're gonna be a dad, Nick.
Rafe: Come on.
Rafe: She left her phone? The hell? What the hell is going on?
Gabi: We are super busy with the project, Mr. Horton, and maybe you and your dad could talk later.
Lucas: Really, it's not gonna take that long. I won't keep you.
Will: Okay, Dad, but--okay. Gabi and I really have to go.
Lucas: Yeah, I know, I know. It's just something I wanna talk to you about.
Lucas: I talked to Sonny.
Will: You did?
Lucas: Yeah, I did.
Will: When? 'Cause I-- actually, I just saw him.
Lucas: He didn't say anything? Well, I guess I'm not surprised, because that's just the first step.
Will: I don't--I don't get it.
Lucas: Look, um, I'm not gonna promise you that everything is gonna be perfect from here on out, but I will promise you that I'm not gonna screw up royally the way I did before. I won't do that again. I promise.
Will: Okay. Well, did you tell that to Sonny?
Lucas: Sort of, sort of. I just--you know, um, told him I needed to accept things. You know, I need to let you lead the kind of life you wanna lead, and in order to do that, I have to accept Sonny. I know that I'm gonna have to trust him eventually. It's just gonna be hard for me because I love you very much, and apparently, so does Sonny.
Eric: Nicole, I-I can't tell you how sorry I am for the loss of your child. As far as what you did afterwards... no. I can't hate you. I never could.
Nicole: Because you're a priest, yeah, I-I get it.
Eric: No, because I'm your friend.
Nicole: Ah, okay.
Eric: You've suffered long enough.
Nicole: But there's more.
Eric: Is there something more you haven't told me?
Nicole: No. I'm talking about you. You're thinking about something, and you're not saying it, and I wanna know what it is.
Nick: And you're sure that there's nothing else wrong with her? I mean, not all pregnant women pass out, right?
Sami: Gabi is fine. She didn't find out she was pregnant till she got the blood test results back, so maybe she was dehydrated or wasn't eating right or something.
Nick: Yeah. So you're sure she's okay?
Sami: Yes. She's okay.
Rafe: Nick! So, uh, when's the last time you saw my sister?
Rafe: Don't lie to me.
Sami: He--he, uh--he's not. He just found out that Gabi's pregnant.
Rafe: You didn't know? Gabi didn't tell you?
Nick: No, she didn't. I'm kind of just taking this all in right now.
Rafe: Oh, are you? Okay. Well, while you're taking it all in, maybe you can help me find her, hm?
Will: I'm sorry, did Sonny actually say that he loves me?
Lucas: Well, that's none of my business. That's between you and Sonny--
Will: Wait. I know, but you said that-- you said "Sonny loves you," so where is that coming from?
Lucas: It's coming from him. What, you don't know the way he feels?
Will: Yeah, I guess so.
Lucas: Well, look, the point is just I don't like me when I lie, that's all.
Will: Okay, lie about what?
Lucas: What, remember when I told you that if I, uh, walked in on you with a girl, it'd be the same thing as if you were with Sonny...
Lucas: And, um, that's not entirely true. I mean, if you were with Gabi, I don't think I would've disapproved, so I'm sorry. You were right, and I was wrong, so it's me apologizing.
Will: Yeah. Thanks, Dad.
Lucas: No, I mean, if Sonny makes you happy, Sonny makes you happy.
Will: That means a lot to me.
Will: Okay. So you ready?
Gabi: Yeah. Are you ready?
Will: Yeah, okay. So, um, I guess I'll talk to you later.
Lucas: Okay. Yeah--oh, wait, wait, wait. You guys need a little more money, right? You said you were short on your project, what was it, 50--50 bucks? 20...
Lucas: Here, just take 60.
Will: [Exhales] That's, uh--that's very generous of you, Dad.
Lucas: Yeah, no problem.
Gabi: Thank you, Mr. Horton.
Lucas: Oh, don't worry about it. Good luck with the project.
Gabi: We gotta go.
Lucas: Proud of you.
Jennifer: Here, let me take that for you--
Billie: Thank you. Hi!
Billie: Listen, I thought the worst, and I jumped to conclusions, and I am just so very sorry, Jenn.
Jennifer: Billie, it is okay, really. I just wanna put this all behind us and move on, really.
Billie: Oh, but I just hate myself.
Hope: Well, stop. She forgives you.
Billie: Really, you do?
Jennifer: Yes, I do.
Billie: [Sighs] Thank you. You don't know how relieved I am.
Jennifer: Oh! There's some more ladies.
Jennifer: Oh, yay!
Jennifer: Hi, hi, hi.
Kayla: Thank you so much for hosting the book club.
Jennifer: Oh, no, it's so great--hi!
Adrienne: Have you picked the next book yet?
Jennifer: Oh--mwah!--Yes, we're gonna talk about that today, actually. Come on in.
Hope: Oh! Hi, guys. Hi!
Billie: Hey, Kayla! How are things with your mom?
Kayla: You know, really good. Thank you. Um, she sounds great, and, uh, she likes the weather, although she's anxious to come back.
Hope: Which is going to be sooner than we thought.
Adrienne: Aw, that's great!
Billie: Oh, that's wonderful news.
Jennifer: Well, there really are a lot of things to be thankful for this year after all, right?
Nicole: In case you didn't already notice, this whole collar and incense thing, it doesn't really affect me, so go on. Tell me whatever it is you're not telling me, Eric.
Eric: I see you haven't lost your edge.
Nicole: Admit it, Padre.
Eric: Well, I'm not comfortable about being your advisor, Nicole...
Eric: Or your confessor, because we haven't been able to talk about, really, what this is.
Nicole: Oh, for the love of Pete, would you just say it?
Eric: [Exhales] You really haven't found a way to make things right with Jennifer... or this Daniel Jonas guy, did you?
Nicole: Wow. So that's what you think I should do? Is that what you're saying?
Eric: Well, maybe it'd help you find a way to move on, get closure.
Nicole: Blah. Gah! Loathe that word.
Eric: Well, do you have a better one?
Nicole: [Scoffs] I know this might sound like a surprise to you, but I am not the best apologizer.
Eric: No, really?
Nicole: Okay, that's enough.
Eric: When we did a photo shoot in Venice Beach, I remember that you had a minimum of four things to apologize to me for, and I don't remember you doing it once.
Nicole: [Laughs] You were so mad at me about those pictures.
Eric: And you wanted to throw out every shot that I had.
Nicole: Well, you thought I hated your work.
Eric: It wasn't about that. You just never apologized.
Nicole: Oh. Well, I'm retroactively sorry.
Eric: Thank you.
Nicole: But you know I am so right about those pictures--
Eric: Oh, here we go.
Nicole: Come on, seriously. I kept telling you it wasn't about your work. It was--it was about me and how I felt with my hair and my face and my skin. You know that no one else sees--
Nicole: Okay. Fine. What? What? Now what? Hm?
Eric: It's just that when you look in the mirror and you find all these little flaws, but you forget about the things that you do--
Nicole: That I'm totally clueless, and delusional, and destructive. Yeah, I know all those things. Okay, so what will happen to me if I take your suggestion and do what's right or whatever?
Eric: Well, maybe you'll be able to help yourself and lose this "whole world hates me" thing you've got going on.
Nicole: [Exhales] But what if it falls on deaf ears, and Daniel and Jennifer don't care if I apologize or not, because they have no intention of forgiving me anyway?
Eric: Well, maybe you'll get forgiveness, and if you forgive yourself--
Nicole: Okay, whoa, whoa. Hold on. What, you're gonna tell me God's gonna forgive me too? No way!
Eric: Okay, I'm trying to get in that thick skull.
Nicole: No, I told you I am not comfortable with all this God talk.
Eric: Well, maybe if you were.
Nicole: Maybe if I were what? Huh? Maybe if you would just stop and listen, and stop preaching to me. I am so sick of this, Eric. I-I am sick of this God talk, I am sick of God, and I am sick of you telling me that I need him. How's that?
Billie: Oh, Jenn, thank you so much for having us here today. Really, after everything you've been dealing with, thank you.
Jennifer: Really, I'm fine, and I haven't done anything. I-I made some cookies, some coffee. Hope did everything, and--so it's not draining me. It's actually lifting my spirits.
Billie: Ours too, right, girls? We're lifted.
Kayla: Yes, but you know, here we are again talking about everything but the book.
Hope: Everybody grab some food, and let's sit down. Billie, you made the call on classic month with The Scarlet Letter.
Hope: So why'd you pick that one?
Billie: Well, I actually read this in high school, not the other ones so much.
Kayla: Why does that not surprise me?
Billie: All right. It's the truth.
Hope: Mm-hm, yeah.
Adrienne: [Sighs] You know, the thing that keeps coming back for me, though, is how much times have changed.
Jennifer: What, you mean pregnancy outside of marriage?
Billie: Well, at least we're not having to embroider a scarlet "A" on our aprons. We know that for sure--
Kayla: Yeah, but there's still a lot of women that deal with stuff like this.
Hope: No. You know what? It's true. It really is, and some don't even give it a second thought.
Billie: That's true. You know, I like Hester Prynne. She was a woman before her time, and time got her back for it.
Adrienne: Mm, that's definitely true.
Hope: You haven't answered the question, though.
Hope: What really made you choose this book?
Billie: Are you kidding me? Forbidden love, of course.
Eric: So you think that everyone, including God, has turned against you, but that's not true. I know that it may feel this way right now, but it just isn't.
Nicole: How did you do it?
Eric: How did I find God?
Nicole: Um, uh... more to the point: How did you become a priest? I mean, did you just wake up one morning and decide it was a good career path?
Eric: Yeah. There's your M.O. It's always been there. I remember it well.
Nicole: My M.O.?
Eric: You know, your sarcasm. The way you try to provoke people, me, in this case. Always avoiding the heart of the matter.
Nicole: Which is?
Nicole: Did they teach you that shrink talk in the monastery?
Nicole: Come on. I'm asking you a question. Why did you become a priest?
Eric: I left home. I went to Colorado to start over, take pictures of things that mattered, but there wasn't really a lot of opportunity in Denver, and I got this news assignment, and it ended up putting me right in the middle of a civil war in the Congo.
Nicole: You went to Africa?
Eric: Well, where I was a witness to the most unimaginable cruelty and goodness, where there were these missionaries. The things that they were doing, changing minds, lives. I mean, it was such on a small scale, but it was very, very powerful.
Nicole: And you decided you wanted to do that too?
Eric: Well, not right away. I found my way back to Mass, and things, they just started becoming so familiar to me, the things that I was taught in my early childhood, just started to come back. Quietly, but very, very profoundly. Call it what you want, but the way I saw the world completely changed... and it completely changed me. I understand if you don't get it, but--
Nicole: I do. I get it.
Sami: Okay, you going after Nick like this isn't accomplishing anything right now, don't you think? Maybe you could just, you know, cool it?
Rafe: Okay. Yeah. Well, you have a point...
Sami: Thank you.
Rafe: But I do reserve the right to go after Nick as soon as we do find Gabi, clear?
Nick: Have you tried calling her?
Rafe: Yeah, I did, actually. Her phone rang right next to me in her bedroom.
Sami: Oh, well, maybe she just forgot it.
Rafe: Yeah, but there was a breakfast tray she hadn't touched a bite of.
Nick: She was [Clears throat] She was feeling really sick this morning. Uh, her stomach.
Sami: Oh, boy.
Nick: That's morning sickness.
Rafe: Yeah, the news just gets better and better, doesn't it?
Sami: Rafe, okay. So, um, would you have seen her leave?
Nick: Uh, no, I mean, not unless she went down the back stairs.
Sami: Okay. Where are you going?
Rafe: Well, maybe someone in the kitchen saw something.
Sami: Okay. He, um--you're just gonna have to give him some time.
Nick: [Laughs] He's really not that high on my list of people I'm worried about right now.
Sami: Right, of course not, but, um, you've had a few minutes to think about everything, just the news. How do you feel about the fact that Gabi is pregnant?
Will: Are you okay? Listen, I only want you to do this if you're 100% sure.
May I help you?
Nicole: I've known you a long time, Eric, and, well, you do seem different. You know, you seem calmer and at peace, and I-I can tell because it's the exact opposite of how I feel, well, I don't know, constantly.
Eric: Well, serenity takes work.
Eric: Don't let that get around, okay?
Nicole: But you--you were always so good, so this is just something else altogether.
Eric: It's God.
Eric: He's there for everyone. Just not everybody is there for him. You just have to make a conscious choice.
Nicole: To be celibate. [Laughs] Sorry.
Nicole: I'm sorry, seriously. I have been wanting to throw that one in there all day. [Clears throat and giggles] I know that you're not trying to convert me, okay, but the God talk?
Eric: Okay. Okay, all right, completely uncomfortable with that. I mean, that has been established.
Nicole: Yeah, so if you could just go a little easier, be a little, little bit lighter on it--
Eric: Yeah, I know. Listen, I will say this, though. If you were to be open to it, you would be amazed what can happen with your life.
Nicole: Yeah, um, I need to go, so thank you for the talk.
Nick: I'm fine, Sami, and honestly, it doesn't really matter either way. I wanna find Gabi, and I wanna know why she didn't tell me about this.
Sami: I have no idea. I really, really thought she had told you. I--
Sami: So had anyone seen her?
Rafe: No, no one. She could be anywhere.
Nick: Why are you so worried that she's not here?
Rafe: Well, I don't know, Nick. Maybe because she's pregnant, and she's scared. How's that?
Sami: Okay, well--hey, uh, Rafe, where are you going?
Rafe: I'm gonna go upstairs to her room. She might use the back stairs to get in, all right?
Sami: Okay--hey. Can I stay and wait with you?
Rafe: Yeah, but you're probably mad at her for not telling you.
Nick: No, I'm not mad at her. I-I wanna help.
Rafe: Oh. Because?
Nick: Because I'm in love with her.
Rafe: Great. Well, you find her, you come find me.
Gabi: Hi, yeah, I'm, uh-- I'm late. Sorry.
It's okay. Um, Gabi Hernandez? You just have to fill out these forms, honey, okay?
Will: Hey. Are you sure?
Hope: [Laughs] I am so happy that you're back in Salem!
Eric: It's great to be here.
Hope: So tell me, how did we get so lucky, huh? How did you manage to land a gig here in your hometown?
Eric: I'm not sure. I expected to be halfway across the world. Actually, you know what? Aside from being closer to my family, the best part about being here is that I get to oversee the construction of the new school.
Hope: I am really thrilled about that.
Hope: Ciara had a sleepover last night since she didn't have school today, and her friend's mom's gonna bring her here so she can say hi to you. Actually, you know what? Let me check my phone and see if she texted me.
Eric: Can I get you some tea?
Hope: Oh, that'd be lovely. Thank you. Oh, someone, I guess, dropped an earring--
Eric: That's Nicole's. She must've dropped it on her way out.
Hope: Nicole was here?
Hope: With you?
Eric: Yeah, she dropped by. We caught up.
Hope: Big mistake. Big mistake, nephew.
Jennifer: Let go of my arm!
Jennifer: Are you crazy? Nicole!
Nicole: You killed my baby. You killed my son.
Jennifer: You know that if I could take back any moment of what happened, I would. And that fight never should've happened, Nicole. Never. I interfered in your life, and I get it. You felt so trapped, and you felt so desperate, and for that, I am truly sorry.
Nicole: I will never forgive you, no matter how many times you say you're sorry. Now, get the hell out. Get out! Stop. Just stop. [Cries]
Sami: Rafe, what are you thinking?
Rafe: Oh, a million things.
Sami: Okay. Start with one.
Rafe: That I let Gabi down.
Rafe: I should've been paying closer attention to her life, what she needed.
Sami: Rafe, she did not get pregnant because her big brother was neglecting her.
Rafe: You know, I'm the only family she has here. That's it. Just me. She was really close to Arianna. Obviously, she's not around anymore, and maybe I didn't realize how much that affected her.
Sami: You lost Arianna too.
Rafe: Yeah. Yep. [Scoffs] Think this guy loves her?
Sami: Yeah, I do. I mean, I saw him after she fainted. He was really worried about her. I could just tell by looking at him how he felt, and Gabi told me that she loves him too.
Sami: It makes a difference, a big difference.
Gabi: Thank you for coming with me.
Will: Yeah. Of course. I told you, I'm--I'm--I'm with you all the way. I'm sorry this happened to you. I should've been more careful. It was--it was stupid.
Gabi: No, look, we were both there. It's both of our responsibilities.
Gabi? You can come in now.
Will: Wait, wait. I just want you to know, okay, that if you don't want to, and if you're not ready, and if you have any doubts, it's okay. It's okay. We can take more time.
Gabi: No. I just wish you were coming in with me, you know?
Will: Yeah, me too, but I'm gonna be here. I'll be right--I'm gonna be right here. I'm not gonna go anywhere.
Do you understand everything I've told you, Gabi? And you're sure you wanna go ahead with the procedure? You know, I know this is difficult, but I can't proceed if you don't give me a verbal response.
Gabi: Yeah. I'm sure.
Okay. Well, the next step is a sonogram, and we'll determine exactly how far along you are in the pregnancy. Um, I'll be back in a few minutes. There's a gown on the table, so please undress and put it on, okay?
Rafe: She thinks I'm overprotective. Maybe that's why this happened. Maybe she was rebelling.
Sami: Rafe, it's not that at all. I promise. She knows that you are there for her. She knows you'd sacrifice anything for her.
Rafe: Yeah. Well, she's right. I would. I was willing to sacrifice you.
Hope: Don't make me state the obvious here.
Eric: Unless there's more, you already did. You think my talking to Nicole is a total mistake?
Hope: You don't need this.
Eric: Hope, I ran into Nicole by accident. She was just filling me in on what's going on with her life.
Hope: Then you know what she tried to do to Jennifer.
Eric: Yes. She told me everything.
Hope: Eric, letting this woman back into your life for any reason, even as her confessor, it would be a catastrophe. I mean it. Eric, you have to stay away from her.
Adrienne: So we're gonna see you and Abigail tomorrow?
Jennifer: We are making the pumpkin pie.
Adrienne: Oh! My favorite.
Jennifer: Yes, and let me know if there's anything else that you need.
Adrienne: Oh, no! I don't think so. I think we're all good.
Jennifer: Okay. Well, just let me know. Thank you...
Jennifer: For everything.
Adrienne: My pleasure, sweetie.
Jennifer: Love you.
Adrienne: See you tomorrow.
Jennifer: Okay. In here, the oven.
Hope: Thank you.
Eric: Hope, how can it be a mistake trying to help someone?
Hope: It's not. Of course it's not, not if that person's able to accept help and be grateful, but Nicole is not only dishonest, she exploits people, Eric.
Hope: Look what she did to Jennifer. If that is isn't a sociopath--
Eric: I'm not excusing what she's done. She is in really bad shape, and she needs somebody to talk to. Hope, she's grieving the loss of her baby, and she thinks that everybody in Salem hates her. I'm just trying to show her a little bit of support right now.
Hope: You know what I think she needs? To be watched.
Eric: Hope, I really don't think that--
Hope: You don't think what? That she's suddenly reformed? No, she's not.
Eric: How can you be so sure?
Hope: My gut instinct. I have a terrible feeling about all of this, and especially about the conflict between Nicole and Jenn. This is far from over. I just know it.
Nicole: [Clears throat]
Nick: Hey, will. Uh, it's Nick. Um, I know that you and Gabi were talking about doing that school project together. Uh, is she with you? Uh, I really need to talk to her. Please, please have her call me as soon as you get this, okay? It's, uh--it's important. Okay. [Exhales]
Rafe: Well, it's true. I was willing to give you up to save Gabi, but it ended up being a moot point. Lost you anyway.
Sami: You know, well, uh, I think it proves the point that you are willing to do anything for your sister, and I respect you for that, how much you love her, how loyal you are to her.
Rafe: I do love her, with all my heart, and I love her baby too. And I would do anything to help her.
Dr. Hill: Can I see Ms. Hernandez's sonogram? So we know exactly where she is. She's ready?
Yes, Dr. Hill.
Dr. Hill: Okay, let's go.
[Knock at door]
Gabi: Oh, God, forgive me.
Sami: Hey, Rafe, do you think that Gabi would mind if I use her computer? I don't have any reception, and I really need to get this email out.
Rafe: Yeah, I'm sure she won't mind.
Sami: Thanks. [Exhales] Uh...
Sami: Oh, my God.
Dr. Hill: Hi, Gabi. I'm Dr. Hill. I'm here to perform your procedure.
Rafe: Oh, no. Oh, Gabi. [Exhales]
