Daniel: Nicole, I know you're grieving. You do not want to hurt yourself. You have so much to live for.

Nicole: Like what? You can't even answer me, because there's nothing. I've lost everything. I've lost my baby. And now I've lost you, and it hurts! It hurts so much, Daniel. I just want it to go away. I want the pain to go away. I need it to go away! [Sighs] [Groans] What is wrong with me? I messed up again. It cost me everything.

EJ: I just thought since Sydney is sick and your mother is taking care of her, maybe you and I could spend some time together, okay? Tell you what? You can do whatever you want to do. How is that?

Johnny: I just like being with you, Daddy!

EJ: I just like being with you too. Will you promise me something? Okay, I want you to promise me that you will never forget how much I love and cherish you and your sister. Can you do that for me? Okay.

Chad: What about our sister? Do you love and cherish Kristen too?

[Birds chirping]

Gabi: Hey, you know, I had a crazy dream last night. I dreamt that you told me that you love me.

Nick: That wasn't a dream.

Gabi: [Laughs]

[Cell phone rings]

Gabi: Ignore it. Ignore it.

Nick: [Sighs] I can't. I got a meeting with my parole officer this morning. I don't want to be late and make a bad impression.

Gabi: Don't worry. Everything's gonna be just fine.

Nick: As long as I got you, I'll be great.

Hope: So Nicole already knew she'd lost the baby before she fell?

Jennifer: Mm-hmm. The doctor had seen her that morning, and he told her it was a placental abruption.

Hope: Oh, my God. And there was nothing they could've done to prevent it?

Jennifer: No. I mean, it was such a big loss for her, you know, and she couldn't handle it, and here, I start this fight with her--

Hope: Oh, Cuz, you couldn't have known. You didn't know. And the fall she took--it was an accident.

Jennifer: I know, but I still feel partly responsible.

Hope: You know what? That's exactly how she wanted you to feel. She wanted to be able to blame you.

Jennifer: No, I don't think so. I think she was in shock. I mean, she was acting irrational, obviously. To do all of that to hold on to Daniel? To hide the truth about this baby and suffer that grief by yourself?

Hope: I need to ask-- now that you know the truth... what are you gonna do?

Nicole: I really thought I was gonna be happy this time. What, did I forget who I am? I blew it. I blew it all to hell and... because I didn't deserve it, and now I'm all alone, and no one gives a damn about me.

Brady: That's not true. You still have me.

Nicole: [Sighs]

Marlena: John?

John: [Groans]

Marlena: What the hell's going on here?

Jennifer: What do you mean what am I gonna do?

Hope: Jennifer... you were arrested based on a malicious accusation that Nicole knew was a lie.

Jennifer: I know. It's ugly. It's all just ugly how...

Hope: Yeah, because she made it that way, not you. Cuz, you are not responsible for what happened.

Jennifer: But I will be... because the D.A. is going to decide based on what I say whether or not Nicole should be prosecuted.

Hope: And you don't think there's some justice in that if she is... even after everything she's done to you... to both you and Daniel? You could've gone to prison.

Maxine: You're here early.

Daniel: I got stuck in the E.R. all night.

Maxine: I saw Nicole's chart--terrible what happened to her.

Daniel: Yeah, I checked on her a few times. She's still asleep.

Maxine: Not anymore. Brady Black's with her now.

Daniel: Good, 'cause I don't want her to be alone. All right, I'll, um-- I'll check on her later, then.

Nicole: No offense, Brady, but I really just don't want to see anyone right now.

Brady: [Exhales deeply] Look, hey, if you want to talk about this--

Nicole: I don't. I don't--

Brady: Nicole, I think you--

Nicole: I said no, Brady. I don't want to talk to you or anyone else, okay? Could you please just go?

[Door opens, closes]

Abigail: Hey, Gabi. Who's that with Nick?

Gabi: Oh, that's his parole officer. It's actually their first meeting, and he's freaking out, and I don't know why, because he's totally amazing. He's so smart and totally funny, and he's into reading and--and-- he's just great.

Abigail: Hmm, all things that would win over even the most hardened parole officers. I think you kind of have a crush on my cousin, Gabi. Do you like him?

Gabi: Well, I more than like him, Abigail.

Abigail: Wait. You--you're not--did you two--

Gabi: I've never felt this way before. Honestly, when we're together, it's like--well, I mean, I don't have to tell you how it feels like. It's just when you know you're with the right guy...

Abigail: Uh, yeah, actually, um, I've never felt that way.

Chad: What's up, Buddy? Are you and the old man having fun today?

Johnny: We're spending the whole morning together.

Chad: That's awesome. Awesome.

EJ: Johnny... why don't you take your rocket, okay? Play somewhere where I can see you, please.

Chad: I, um, heard about Nicole and the baby. I'm glad you finally realized that it wasn't Jennifer.

EJ: I suppose it's some comfort to know the child died of natural causes. Thank you for your concern.

Chad: Hey, we're family.

EJ: Speaking of which, as you brought it up, I take it that you did meet our sister.

Chad: I did, yes, and I'm, uh--I'm just curious about one thing.

EJ: What's that?

Chad: Uh, why didn't you tell me Kristen was back? What kind of game are you playing with me now?

John: All right, before you jump to any conclusions, let me, uh, explain what's going on here.

Marlena: By all means.

John: Kristen was already here when I arrived last night.

Marlena: Of course, she was.

Kristen: Well, I would've left immediately, but I got waylaid, and I missed the last ferry back. Did you know that the cell tower's out here?

Marlena: So you had to stay here... with my husband?

Kristen: I came here to be by myself and to sort things out. If I had known that John or anybody else was walking through that door, I certainly never would've come.

Marlena: Lucky for you, you weren't caught out here all by yourself overnight. Why... you could've frozen to death.

Kristen: I thought I was gonna be back before the temperature dropped. I'd left my jacket on the ferry.

Marlena: The sun's up. It's a glorious day.

Kristen: Oh, well, I guess that means I don't need your husband's jacket anymore.

Hope: I'm sure the D.A. isn't gonna put any pressure on you to incriminate Nicole. He probably just wants to ask you how you feel about it. It's understandable that you have mixed emotions. I'm sure Daniel does too.

Jennifer: Yeah. He was gonna leave town with her. They were gonna be a family. They were gonna raise this baby together.

Hope: What happened was tragic, but it does not excuse what she did to you... or how she manipulated Daniel. You have to remember that.

Jennifer: I know. I know. And I do. I need to make a decision sooner or later. There's just something I have to do first.

Brady: If you're not gonna talk to me, my God, you have got to talk to a lawyer.

Nicole: No.

Brady: Yes, you do.

Nicole: No, I don't. I don't need anyone to defend me, okay? I'm not depressed, and I'm not crazy. I know what I did to Jennifer and why, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Brady: I don't believe you. I think your anger is talking there, and once you get some rest, Nicole--

Nicole: Once I get some rest, what? What? Really? I'm gonna feel better? Am I gonna see things in a new light? Brady, my baby died, and getting a good night's sleep isn't gonna change that. Look, I know--I know you're disappointed in me and how I handled this whole thing, but... I lost my baby. And the thought of losing Daniel--it was just too much.

Brady: I understand.

Nicole: No, you don't. You don't understand. How can you understand when I don't even understand, Brady? You don't understand! Oh, my God. [Crying] Why? Why me? Why always me? Why can't I find love? I just--it's all I want. That is all I have ever wanted, and every time I get close to it, I just screw it up. Why am I always left with nothing, Brady?

Brady: Nicki, you--stop it.

Nicole: Will you please just go? Go!

Brady: Nicole!

Nicole: Please go.

Brady: [Sighs]

[Door closes]

Abigail: What? Why are you looking at me like that?

Gabi: I'm sorry. It just surprised me. I thought that you'd been...

Abigail: No. No, I haven't, um, been with a guy that way yet.

Gabi: I'm--I'm sorry, Abby. I really didn't mean to embarrass you.

Abigail: No, it's okay. I'm not embarrassed. I just would rather it not be public knowledge.

Gabi: Oh, no, I won't tell anybody. Trust me. I won't. Wait. Are you waiting until marriage?

Abigail: No! It's not like that. I just--I want to wait until I find the right guy, and so far, I haven't.

Gabi: Well, you will-- trust me--and when you least expect it.

EJ: I didn't tell you about Kristen, because I didn't want you to think I had some sort of agenda. I wanted you to find out for yourself and form your own opinion.

Chad: Um, so, uh--so what are you saying, that you don't like her?

EJ: No, I'm saying I don't really know her, you know? It's been a long time since she was a part of this family or in Salem.

Chad: Well--

[Footsteps approaching]

Johnny: Daddy, I'm hungry. Can we go to Great-Grandma Caroline's?

EJ: Of course, we can.

Chad: Uncle Chad, will you come too?

Chad: A chance to hang out with my favorite nephew... I'm in. Let's do it.

[Both imitate explosion]

Chad: All right. You foll--I'll follow you, I guess.

Kristen: Ow! Oh. John, my hair's caught right there. Could you get it?

John: Oh, yeah, yeah. Hold on. Hold still.

Kristen: Oh. Ow!

John: Mm-hmm.

Kristen: Thank you. Oh, wait--my key. Anyway, um... I should be going. Uh, plenty of time to catch that ferry, right? Uh, did you want me to have them wait for you too?

Marlena: No. We'll catch the next ferry.

Kristen: Oh, okay. Excuse me. Anyway, uh... John, thank you so much... uh, for last night. I mean, he was, uh, hearing my side of the story, just listening to me is what I mean. Um, I know it was a fluke that we ran into each other, but, um, I'm so glad we did. It was very cathartic for me. Bye.

[Door closes]

Marlena: What the hell was that? What is that woman up to now?

Kristen: Must be John's money clip.

Nicole: [Sighs]

[Door opens]

Chad: Hey, we're gonna need some menus. Mm.

Abigail: Well, that wasn't awkward or anything.

Chad: Whatever. Um, how are you doing? You doing all right?

Abigail: Yeah. Better now, actually. The charges against my mom have been dropped.

Chad: That's great news. I-I'm so happy for you.

Abigail: Thank you. It's great. I just--I wish that I knew why Nicole did what she did.

Chad: I think, uh, you'll just have to find a way to let it go. Um... who is that with Nick?

Abigail: That is his parole officer.

Chad: Huh.

Abigail: Hey, um, speaking of letting things go... could you please not cause trouble for him?

Chad: Don't worry about it. Nick's not the one I have a problem with.

EJ: French toast to go, please.

Gabi: Okay, no problem, and I bet you're gonna want some maple syrup with that, right, Johnny?

Johnny: A lot, please-- like Great-Grandma Caroline always gives me.

Gabi: You got it.

EJ: How is she doing, by the way?

Gabi: Um, fine. I've heard that they're giving her some new medication and treatment and that she's gonna be back in no time.

Johnny: Yay!

EJ: How's the family holding up?

Gabi: As well as can be expected. I mean, we're all missing Mrs. Brady and her son very much, but we know that this is the best thing for her. We're all gonna be together soon--don't worry--'cause family's the most important thing, isn't it?

EJ: Yes, it is.

Marlena: Whew, whew. We'll have some, huh?

John: Hey, Doc... there is no way that Kristen could've known that I was gonna be here.

Marlena: [Scoffs] Of course not!

John: Look, it was only you and Hope. You're the only two people who knew.

Marlena: Well, John, have you forgotten that she is a DiMera? They have this uncanny knack of being able to track people down, drive them insane, you know, destroy their lives.

John: Mm-hmm. It couldn't be that you're overreacting just a bit, huh?

Marlena: "Overreacting"... to a woman who is obsessed with my husband, has been for years, and can't shake the obsession... to a woman who, time and again, has proven herself to be a sadistic sociopath?

John: All right, look... maybe Kristen still has issues. Maybe she's struggling with the kind of pressure her insane family has put her under, but you want to know something? I think that she's really trying to better herself.

Marlena: Your understanding of her is heartwarming.

John: That's not what this is about. I just will not allow that woman to have any power over us. I won't let her presence in town change our lives. I'm just not gonna do it. You got to understand that.

Marlena: Nope. I'm afraid I don't.

John: I'm not saying I trust her. I'm just saying that she told me she came back to Salem here to put the past behind her, and right now she's given me no reason to doubt that.

Marlena: Wow. Look what she's accomplished. She has you defending her now.

John: Not defending her.

Marlena: Really? What is this?

John: Well, what this is, is your gut is telling you that she can't be trusted, and my gut's telling me that... maybe she's changed.

Kristen: I sure hope you're not gonna be bothered by me getting a cup of coffee.

Brady: No, not at all. Help yourself to all the caffeine you want, but if you think I'm gonna let my guard down or take my eye off of you--

Kristen: It's very sweet how protective you are of your father. It really is. It's admirable, but--

Brady: But--but I have no reason to worry because you are a changed woman, and you're here to spread love, peace, and harmony, right?

Kristen: I came back to Salem to make amends, yes, and also to make some kind of a life for myself, which you and everyone else is not gonna believe, apparently.

Brady: I can't speak for everyone else, but, no, I will never believe that.

Kristen: Okay, well, maybe you'll worry a little less if I tell you that you're actually right about one thing.

Brady: Get out of here.

Kristen: One thing.

Brady: What would that be?

Kristen: Your father is never, ever, ever gonna have anything to do with me.

Brady: Gee, I wonder why.

Kristen: Brady, wait a second. Please?

Brady: Yeah, sure.

Kristen: I need you to do something for me.

Hope: Oh, Grandpa... I so wish you and Gran could see Ciara wearing your hat... in her school play.

[Knock at door]

Hope: You'd get a kick out of it. Oh. Hi. Daniel.

Daniel: Hi. Uh, is, uh, Jennifer here?

Hope: Oh, uh--um, sorry. No, she's not. She's, um--she's been gone for a while.

Daniel: Well, do you know where she went?

Jennifer: May I come in?

Nicole: I can't stop you. But if you're looking for an apology, you can leave now, because I've got nothing to say to you.

Jennifer: Good. Then you can just listen... because I have plenty that I want to say to you.

Man: You know, next time don't be so nervous, okay? I'm on your side. Now, if you don't mind, I think I'm gonna stick around and finish my chowder.

Nick: Sounds good. Uh, enjoy. Hey.

Gabi: Hey. So how'd it go?

Nick: I think pretty well. You bringing over the clam chowder on the house sealed the deal.

Gabi: Hmm.

Nick: I don't know how to thank you.

Gabi: Well, I could think of a way.

Nick: Oh, yeah?

Chad: So that's how she did it, huh?

Nick: Excuse me?

Chad: Got you to blackmail me. She put out as a reward so you would keep me from sending her to jail. Hmm.

Johnny: [Imitates blast-off] Stevie's here, Daddy. Can I go say hi?

EJ: Yes. Of course, you can. Stay where I can see you, please.

Abigail: He's growing up so fast.

EJ: They do that, you know? Please.

Abigail: I didn't mean to keep you. I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for your loss.

EJ: Thank you. And, um, I owe your mother an apology.

Abigail: Yeah, you do.

EJ: I was just looking for somebody to blame--not that that's any excuse, obviously.

Abigail: Well, it's not an excuse, but I understand it... 'cause when you don't have someone else to blame, the person that you end up blaming is yourself.

Daniel: Do you mind if I wait here for Jennifer?

Hope: Oh, sure, of course. Come on in.

Daniel: Yeah, I haven't seen her since all this happened. I got stuck in the E.R. after Nicole was admitted. I just want to make sure she's all right.

Hope: She is. I think she's just, uh, a bit confused about why things happened the way they did.

Daniel: Yeah.

Hope: She doesn't blame you for any of this.

Daniel: Well, maybe she should. If Jack was still alive, I-- all right, doesn't really make sense to go there, does it?

Hope: What were you gonna say?

Daniel: Ah, just that if he was still around, Jennifer would be focused on her life with him. She wouldn't be suffering over me and my decisions.

Hope: Daniel, you did everything you could to protect her. And Jennifer--she's strong. It's gonna take time, but she'll heal. She knows she has her family's support, her friends to turn to... and you.

Jennifer: I, uh--I knew that you and Daniel were covering something up, and I just-- I didn't know what it was until I heard EJ talking about a paternity test.

Nicole: And you just had to get involved, didn't you?

Jennifer: No. I was concerned about Daniel.

Nicole: Oh, my God. You were jealous because you weren't the center of his universe anymore.

Jennifer: No, no, that's not true, Nicole. I just--I couldn't understand why he would want to protect your secret and risk his entire career. So I just--I want to tell you that I'm... I'm sorry if I added to the pressure that you were already under. And I did push you. I didn't push you down those stairs, but I pushed you to a breaking point... and that fight never should've happened, Nicole... never. I interfered in your life, and I get it. You felt--you felt so trapped, and you felt so desperate. And for that, I am truly sorry.

Chad: What's the matter? Did I hit a little too close to the truth?

Gabi: Chad, stop. Okay, stop it right now. Please, Nick, just don't listen to anything he--

Chad: When did you two start hooking up? Was that before or after I kicked his ass? Did you kiss everything and make it better?

Nick: Okay, you shut the hell up.

Chad: Whoa. Buddy, all I'm saying is if she did try to seduce you to try to keep herself out of jail, that doesn't really make her your girlfriend. It makes her a whore.

Nick: You son of a--

Gabi: No, no, Nick. Stop, please. We both know what he's trying to do. Stop, please. Just go to the back for me, please. Let it go, please. Are you kidding me? I mean, I know why you hate me, but Nick-- why are you doing this to Nick?

Brady: This may sound a little harsh, but I'm not inclined to do any favors for you right now.

Kristen: Even if it helps John and Marlena? I was with your dad last night, and I left with something of his this morning, and I think under the circumstances, it would be better if you give it back to him, don't you think?

Brady: Okay, back up, back up, hold on. You were with my dad last night?

Kristen: Yeah. Yeah. We had such a great talk.

Brady: Oh, did you? You had a good talk? Did you tell him how wonderful you are? Did you tell him that the cruel and spiteful side of you is a thing of the past, and that all you want to do is help people that are less fortunate than you--something like that?

Kristen: Yeah, kind of a version of that.

Brady: How about that? You said you, uh, took something of his?

Kristen: It was by accident.

Brady: His money clip?

Kristen: Mm-hmm.

Brady: His money clip-- how the hell did you get this, huh?

Kristen: I told you. I was with your father... all night long, as it turned out.

Marlena: This is mind-boggling.

John: What is-- that I'm giving someone the benefit of the doubt?

Marlena: This is not someone. This is not some human being, a normal person who deserves our-- our understanding and our sympathy. This is a woman who has caused holy hell in our lives and has no remorse for it. This is a sociopath with no conscience.

John: Yeah, that's who she was. She convinced me that she's making every effort to turn her life around. You know something, Doc? I'm not gonna be so cynical as to believe that a person can't reform, and I'm a little bit surprised that you don't share that belief. Now, Kristen told me that she came back here to have a little bit of closure and to move on with her life. She doesn't want me. She just wants my forgiveness.

Marlena: Did you forgive her?

John: I told her I thought it was best we both move on, yeah.

Marlena: Well, that's sweet that you came to that agreement here in the cabin that means so much to both of you.

John: No, meant something a long time ago, but not anymore. [Sighs] She doesn't want me, Doc. Come on. She just came here so she could put that past to rest.

Marlena: If we were talking about anybody but Kristen, I might believe it... but I don't, and I won't.

John: Okay. All right. Then I guess we will just agree to disagree.

EJ: Abigail, I don't think I've ever truly, really expressed to you how sorry I am for what happened to your father.

Abigail: You know, my dad died saving my life. So, instead of having someone else to blame, I'm constantly wondering if there's anything that I could've done that day, just one thing... and he could still be alive.

EJ: You can't do that, Abigail. You can't. Look... things happen in life that are random and are cruel. To lose a father... [Exhales deeply] My God, I mean, the pain of something like that must just be incredible. But... in my experience... something like that can give you a certain amount of clarity. You know, it helps you see exactly what's important. It teaches you what you need to treasure.

Abigail: I get that.

EJ: Of course, that clarity doesn't last very long. The fog of life rolls in and obscures anything that was once crystal clear... and then you find yourself making the same mistakes and cherishing the wrong things.

Abigail: But it doesn't have to be that way.

Nicole: Wow. You are good... [Scoffs] I mean, all this bad blood between us, and you just waltz in here, hmm, like you're some incredible, selfless person. That's Oscar-worthy, Jennifer, really?

Jennifer: What? What?

Nicole: What were you hoping that I would do? What would you--what were you hoping for, really? Did you want me to just wrap my arms around you and tell you you're my new BFF?

Jennifer: No, no, actually, I wasn't really hoping for anything.

Nicole: Good, because I will never forgive you, no matter how many times you say you're sorry. Now get the hell out. Get out!

Jennifer: Okay.

Nicole: Out means out. Get out, Jennifer. [Scoffs] Oh, my God. Really? Oh.

Chad: Damn, you really do have a thing for that ex-con, don't you?

Gabi: Don't call him that, all right? Nick is a good man, and I'm in love with him.

Chad: You're in love with him? Really? [Chuckles] The same way I was in love with Melanie? But you destroyed that, didn't you?

Gabi: Chad.

Chad: I'm gonna return the favor, Gabi.

Gabi: What?

Chad: I wouldn't hold my breath for that fairy-tale ending, Gabi. You see, um... I'm gonna find a way to blow up your happiness too.

Gabi: [Sighs]

Nick: You okay?

Gabi: Yeah, yeah. Chad's just a jerk, you know, of epic proportions.

Nick: What did he say to you?

Gabi: Nothing. It doesn't matter. Let's just get back to work. [Sighs] [Groans softly]

Nick: Gabi? Gabi, Gabi. Hey.

EJ: I'd like to believe it is possible to change. I mean, I've certainly tried to. I'm sure you have. I don't know about you, but I just haven't found myself to be particularly successful.

Abigail: I don't know, but... maybe the trick is that even when things aren't sad and awful, even when you haven't just lost someone that you love, that that is when you have to pause and try to remember what really matters in your life. I should go.

EJ: Abigail... it was good talking to you.

Brady: So you spend all night with my father at the Horton cabin, and just by chance, of course, you just happened to walk away with his money clip?

Kristen: Well, your dad gave me his jacket. I guess his money clip got mixed up with my keys before I left.

Brady: Do you expect me to believe that, really?

Kristen: Ask your dad. It got so cold last night. I'm gonna get some coffee, okay?

Brady: Okay.

John: All right, I guess we'd better get running here if we're gonna make that last ferry. [Breathes deeply]

Jennifer: Hey.

Daniel: Hey.

Jennifer: What are you doing here?

Daniel: Oh, I was, uh, just looking for you. Hope said it was okay that I wait here. I just wanted to see how you're doing. How are you doing?

Jennifer: Uh... I went to see Nicole.

Daniel: How'd that go?

Jennifer: Not so well. I also went to see the D.A., and, um, he asked me how I felt about pressing charges against Nicole.

Daniel: Well, what did you tell him?

Nicole: You're here to arrest me, aren't you?
