Sami: You're not saying anything. And the truth is: It's not just today and that I want to start over. I-I want us to start over, you and me...fresh start. Rafe.
Rafe: I don't think so. It's not gonna work, Sami. It's--
Sami: I know why you're saying that. I know why you think that, Rafe, and I can fix it--
Rafe: Sami, please--
Sami: Trust me, I can. [Exhales]
Bo: Yeah, yeah, that's perfect. Exactly what--okay, I'll get back to you--
Hope: Bo. Bo!
Bo: Hey! [Coughs] What?
Hope: Where were you?
Hope: Wha--this afternoon!
Bo: Right here! Fancy face, right here, doin' the job of about 14 different detectives. I'm buried in paperwork, but you know what? I did make some phone calls on some leads that we were working on, and guess what? I...what? What--what--what's with the look?
Hope: Do you honestly not remember what we talked about yesterday?
Bo: What did we talk about yesterday?
Hope: The poetry class. Ciara reading in front of her class.
Bo: [Exhales] Damn it! I missed-- [Exhales] Son of a...gun. I missed it. It's because of this damn job.
Gabi: Hey, I thought you said that Abigail was up in her room.
Nicole: Uh, yeah, I thought she was.
Gabi: Oh, okay. Well, she probably went out. Did you notice?
Nicole: Honey, I'm pregnant. I don't notice anything.
Gabi: Great. Uhh, can you do me a favor?
Gabi: Can you, uh--can you tell her to call me when you see her?
Nicole: Yeah, sure, no problem.
Gabi: Tell her it's about Melanie.
Nicole: Whoa, whoa, Gabi, Gabi, Gabi, hey. Um, maybe you should tell me more.
Jennifer: Hi, there!
Jennifer: I didn't know you were gonna be here!
Abigail: Sorry, I-I would've called first, but I lost my cell phone.
Jennifer: Well, that's okay. I am always glad to see you. What's up?
Abigail: Nothing, I just, uh--I feel really badly about the way that we left things, and I wanted to talk about it, but you seem really busy. You have all those papers on your desk. Are you in the middle of a project?
Jennifer: Uh, yes, yeah, I-I am, actually.
Daniel: You hear EJ tell his lawyer that he still believes that Nicole's baby is his, and he's gonna push for a DNA test. In the same day, I just see you with a list of DNA labs? Come on, what am I supposed to think? Help me out here.
Jennifer: I told you, Daniel.
Daniel: You know what? I think maybe you're onto something. I don't know, but you need to stay out. I mean it. Don't get involved. There's nothing you can do, and you shouldn't. But you know what, sweetie? This work is still gonna be here when we're done, so let's talk. I was just heading out, EJ.
EJ: Yeah, I'm not here to see you. Could I speak to Melanie, please?
Daniel: No, no, she's gone.
Melanie: Gone, as in she'll be back later?
Daniel: Nope. Anything else?
EJ: Eh, look, um--Daniel, I would like to help, uh, your daughter and Chad, so if you could just let me know how I can get in touch with them...
Daniel: You know, I'm not gonna tell you a thing, EJ. Not now, not later, not ever. And don't go looking for 'em. Where she went is none of your business.
Sami: I know why you're saying that. I know why you're nervous. It's because you think I'm gonna move too fast, and I'm gonna jump in too quick, just like you said. I agree with you! I think we should take things slow.
Rafe: Sami--Sami, just stop, okay? Just stop. This is not gonna work. This. This--this us. There is no us. It's not gonna work now. It's not gonna ever work. We're done!
EJ: Look, uh, my brother, your daughter, they're going through a bit of a rough patch. They're in love. So I think it's incumbent upon the two of us to see if we can--
Daniel: No, it is not incumbent upon us to do anything but stay the hell out of it.
EJ: Well, now, you're being unreasonable.
Daniel: Let me make this really clear, EJ. I don't want my daughter anywhere near you, or anybody from your family ever again. I'm relieved as hell that Melanie ended things with Chad, and that it is over, and I will do whatever I need to to keep it that way.
Sami: Done. Sounds so final, and I know you don't mean in that way.
Rafe: I do, all right?
Sami: Rafe, we had an amazing time last night. I know it, you know it. This doesn't make any sense.
Rafe: Yeah, it's the only thing that makes sense.
Sami: Something is different. I mean, maybe it's Lucas. Maybe it's that I was with Lucas, and then, EJ was circling around, but the truth is they didn't work out, because the person I'm supposed to be with--
Rafe: Can't be me. Can't. Oh, what, don't look at me like that. It's not like this is just something that came to me. I-I've been thinking about this for a long time. It just can't work, Sami. There's no way. Something has changed, because last night--last night, things were different, and all of a sudden, this morning, today, you're like this? What happened? What changed? Let's not over-analyze this, okay?
Sami: You're not analyzing this at all. You're just telling me that you don't want to, and you won't even say why. Rafe, last night we had a nice time, and--and I don't understand what happened after we said good night, because it's different now.
EJ: It really sort of boils down to this. I will make sure that my brother does not give testimony to a grand jury, thereby keeping your sister out of prison for--oof-- the next, uh, 20 years, or so.
EJ: If--if you give up Samantha to me.
Rafe: [Laughs] What? You want me to dredge it all up? Mm, the hurt, the lies, the betrayal?
Sami: So this is because-- because you can't trust me.
Rafe: How can I?
Sami: We talked about this, and you said there would be a lot of work, but that we could--we could try, and--and maybe you could find a way to trust me again. It sounded possible. When did it go from possible to impossible?
Rafe: It just did. If I could change it... I would.
EJ: Look-- I understand that you might not like the way I treated Nicole, but that's not a reason for you to take it out on my brother.
Daniel: Your brother is an accident waiting to happen, and I don't want him anywhere near my daughter.
EJ: He loves your daughter.
Daniel: He broke her heart.
EJ: He was protecting her.
Daniel: Right, right, in true DiMera fashion? By lying, by acting like a sociopathic maniac? Melanie and Chad are done for good. It's over. Get used to it.
Jennifer: You know what, sweetie? I am so glad you came by.
Abigail: I hate fighting with you, mom.
Jennifer: Sweetie, I need to apologize, because I-I started that fight, and I'm sorry.
Abigail: No! No, mom, please. I'm the one that got all mean, mad, and angry, and I totally overreacted.
Jennifer: [Groans] I think that we both overreact a lot, lately [Giggles], And, um, I think we need to forgive ourselves. I just think that over-reacting, it's just--it's part of this grief, you know? And we can't be sad all the time, so sometimes it comes out in anger.
Abigail: Yeah. Yeah, you're right.
Jennifer: Yeah, so don't be too hard on yourself, really, about anything. You have been so brave and so strong. I love you.
Abigail: I love you, too.
Jennifer: I love you so much. But sometimes I look at you, and I see so much of your dad, and that comforts me.
Abigail: Losing dad was, um, hard for me, obviously, but, God, mom, I can't even imagine what you're going through. I mean, I know how much you and dad loved each other, how much you cared about each other, and how relieved you were to be back together.
Jennifer: I was. I was so relieved, and I was so happy [Giggles]...And just really, really grateful for more memories that we got to make, and I'm really happy that your dad got to see you as this incredible young woman.
Abigail: I don't wanna sound petty, and I don't wanna upset you more than you already are, especially since we are kind of stuck with her, but having Nicole in the house, I feel like it's been making everything harder. Do you? I just feel like it's so much less stressful when it's just you and me.
Jennifer: And you know what? You're right, it is less stressful, but it's going to be you and me again, because Nicole's days as our house guest are numbered. Trust me.
Nicole: Daniel is a good friend of mine, and he--he's been so loyal to me and your brother Rafe, so if there's something wrong with his daughter, I'd really--I'd really like to help.
Gabi: [Sighs] I mean, it's not like it's a secret or anything. Everybody's gonna find out eventually.
Nicole: Find out what?
Gabi: Melanie left Salem for a while.
Nicole: What? What--where did she go?
Gabi: Well, she left the country just a couple of hours ago.
Nicole: With Chad?
Nicole: What about the wedding?
Gabi: It's not happening.
Nicole: Oh, poor Daniel.
Gabi: Poor Daniel? I mean, poor Melanie. She's--
Nicole: Yeah, of cour-- of course--of course, poor Melanie, but Daniel's such a devoted father, I--he's probably really hurt, too. What happened?
Gabi: Well, things, um-- things just got complicated, but that's all I should say. Sorry.
Nicole: Okay. Well, um, thank you for letting me know.
Nicole: Really, and, um, I will be sure to tell Abigail that--that you stopped by, okay?
Gabi: Okay. Thank you.
Nicole: All right. Thanks again. Wow. Poor Daniel. He's gonna need a shoulder to cry on.
Caroline: [Scoffs] I do have the statement in front of me, but I know I made the deposit. [Exhales] Well, then, your records are wrong, and you need to check it out, and I need to get back to my business, so I haven't time for this. I haven't.
Roman: Ma! Hey.
Roman: What's up?
Caroline: Ugh. You know, paperwork.
Roman: Looks like a lot. Want some help?
Caroline: For my personal business? Do I come down to the station and tell you how to do your job? Hmm? Oh, and by the way, thank you so much for keeping me in the loop.
Roman: In the loop? About?
Caroline: About your brother, my son?
Roman: Okay, so you heard.
Caroline: Yeah, I heard, or, rather, I overheard, okay, that he may be leaving the force?
Roman: Well, ma, look, I wasn't keeping it from you, okay? It's just that Bo's situation right now is fluid.
Caroline: Meaning what?
Roman: Meaning he's not sure what he wants to do, and, frankly, I'm not sure what I'll do with my police force if he leaves.
Caroline: Well, it's not about you. It's about your brother. Roman needs your support.
Roman: Ma...I'm Roman.
Caroline: Well, of course, you are. You're Roman, and he's Bo, and the two of you need to figure this out.
Bo: Was Ciara upset that I wasn't there?
Hope: I explained that you were working.
Hope: That's what I assumed.
Bo: Yeah, I just hate disappointing her.
Hope: Does it make it easier? I mean, you having to work so hard, not being able to focus on anything else. Does it make your decision to leave the force easier?
Bo: Not really. You know that idea that was rattling around in my head?
Bo: Come here.
Hope: You're finally gonna share that idea with me?
Bo: Yeah. [Exhales] We were talking about not being able to make the DiMeras pay for what they've done. They're always jumping through some loophole, right?
Bo: Well, if I'm not on the force and don't have these damn constraints, not always working on paperwork...
Hope: You could go after Stefano.
Bo: Yeah. I could devote all my time to that, and hit him where it hurts the most.
Hope: Oh, yeah, the bank account.
Bo: Yeah, exactly. Give him the kind of headaches that I can't sitting behind a desk with a badge on.
Hope: And you'd still have time to hear your daughter read her poetry in class?
Bo: Yes, I would. So, fancy face, what do you think?
EJ: Let me tell you something. My brother is the best thing that could ever happen to your daughter, and if she is stupid enough to walk away from something like--
Daniel: Now, do you have any idea how off-the-wall your brother really is, EJ? And Melanie, she was going through hell. First, Nick, then, Andrew. And you know what Chad did? Nothing. He was actually there, and he let it happen. In fact, he made things worse, so you tell me, how is that protecting her? How? How can your brother be trusted?
EJ: Trust, Daniel, is overrated.
Nicole: And you would know all about that, wouldn't you? Unbelievable. This day couldn't be harder for you, and you have to deal with this.
Daniel: Now, you know what? It's okay, Nic. We are done here--so done here. In case EJ hasn't noticed, I haven't asked him in.
Daniel: Anything else you need to say?
EJ: This is--
EJ: Not over, sweetheart. Let me tell you something. Saying good-bye to Melanie is going to seem like a warm day in paradise compared to what happens when I expose you two for what you've done and I take what is mine.
Nicole: Um, [Exhales] I, uh, I heard that Melanie left, and I just wanted...I didn't want you to be alone.
EJ: Chad. Yeah, it's me. Listen, that thing we were talking about, it's gonna take longer than I thought. I don't know. All right, just sit tight, be patient, and I'll handle it. I said I will handle it.
Sami: Rafe, I don't wanna give up on us.
Rafe: Oh, you did that, too. That you hurt me more than I ever thought that I could possibly be hurt, and-- look, Sami. Just because you feel differently, it doesn't make the situation any different, okay?
Sami: What? No--
Rafe: It just doesn't--
Sami: No, you... you kissed me. You kissed me.
Rafe: I know.
Sami: You did that. It's because you felt the way that I feel. I know you do. You remember what it was like for us. You remember how good it was. You remember loving me, because I know I will never forget loving you. And remembering all of that... how can you stand here and tell me that you don't even wanna try?
Hope: This idea seems to energize you...
Bo: Mm-hmm, you noticed.
Hope: If you're careful, and you'll let me help out every now and then. I have to say it's pretty intriguing.
Bo: Yeah, and we like intrigue.
Hope: Yes, we do.
Roman: Hey, hey.
Roman: How's it goin'?
Roman: What's goin' on?
Bo: Ah...[Chuckles] Is that code for "you need an answer"?
Roman: No, no. No pressure from me. Not anymore. All I'm gonna say is that, uh, little brother, you are one of my hall of fame detectives. I can't replace you. Bottom line is: We need you. But...
Roman: You may not need us.
Jennifer: So are you gonna try to see Cameron while you're here?
Abigail: Uh, I don't really wanna talk about Cameron, if that's okay with you.
Jennifer: What, uh, are things okay with you guys?
Abigail: Yeah, no, they're-- it's fine. I mean, I might not have a date for Melanie's wedding, but other than that--
Jennifer: Wait, Melanie's wedding? How soon is that?
Abigail: Really soon. Crazy soon. I-I can't believe it. You think it's a little rushed too, right? I mean, Melanie's been through so much.
Jennifer: Yeah, and maybe that's why she's rushing into getting married. Maybe she thinks it'll give her stability and make her feel safe.
Abigail: Yeah. Not a good reason to get married, is it?
Jennifer: No, sweetie.
Abigail: Should I say something to her, mom, or is it not my place?
Jennifer: You know what, honey? Real friends, they are a rare find. So yeah, I-I think you owe it to them to help them. I mean, you would want them to do the same for you, right?
Abigail: Yeah. Yeah, you're right.
Jennifer: So then, you should. You should try to do whatever you can, even if they don't want you to.
Daniel: I made the brave decision to let my mother take Melanie to the airport.
Nicole: Thank you. Because you didn't want to see her get on the plane?
Nicole: How long is she gone for?
Daniel: Well, she went to go see Carly. For as long as it takes. That is something she needs to do, and she's gonna be his, uh-- I don't know, she'll be gone for a long time. As long as Chad's still here, she'll be gone.
Nicole: Poor thing.
Daniel: Yeah, well, he broke her heart.
Nicole: Amazing. Another heart put through the shredder by a DiMera. I know that all too well.
Daniel: Yeah, you do.
Nicole: You know, maybe while she's overseas, she'll find someone to care about her and love her and stand by her. Someone who will be good to her the way you've been good to me. Daniel, I just--I wanna be here for you.
Daniel: And I told you, Nicole, I will help you and your baby, non-negotiable.
Nicole: Well, I am grateful, and I know this has been stressful for you and Rafe, not just for me.
Daniel: Ah, you know, we made a choice. I mean, Rafe and I, we knew there'd be issues along the way.
Nicole: [Laughs] Issues? Yes. Euphemism for "we're going to hell in a handbasket."
Daniel: [Laughs] Yeah. You know, I-I think I have come up with a way to make things less stressful.
Nicole: I'm all ears.
Rafe: If you're not gonna listen to me, if you keep making me tell you no, it's only gonna get harder for you. It's only gonna get worse.
Sami: You're wrong. It's already worse.
Abigail: So, let's just go back to Nicole for a second. What did you mean when you said that she's not gonna be staying with us that much longer?
Jennifer: Well, I promised her that she could stay till the baby's born, and hopefully that'll happen right on schedule, and then I want her out of our house.
Abigail: You know, she told me that, uh, she can tell you don't like having her there.
Jennifer: Oh, really? Did she notice?
Abigail: Yeah, she said that maybe she thinks you might be judging her a little.
Jennifer: Mm-hmm, and there's more, I can tell by the look on your face.
Abigail: She just said that, um, you know, after losing daddy, you're under a lot of stress, and maybe you're believing other people's opinions more--
Jennifer: That's just amazing. It's such a non sequitur. She's unbelievable. Why would she think that--that if I am under stress--sh--she's amazing, and then she says these things to you, and she doesn't want you to tell me what she said to you, right? So, now, she wants you to lie to your mother?
Abigail: Uh, no, no-- she's--
Jennifer: She's living in my house, and she's playing divide and conquer? How dare she do that!
Abigail: Mom, she's probably just really jealous of you, you know?
Jennifer: Jealous? That doesn't make any sense.
Abigail: Really? Of course, it makes sense, mom. Nicole and Dr. Jonas were really close at one point, so she's probably feeling really threatened by you, because Daniel cares so much about you--
Jennifer: All right, so she's living in my house, and now she's jealous and threatened and talking about me behind my back to my own daughter.
Nicole: Wow, I do. I-I think that is a really good idea, but, um, do you think Rafe will really be able to help us?
Daniel: You know what? I, uh, I do. I really do, but you know what? I gotta get back to work. Um, EJ caught me at a bad time, so I gotta go.
Daniel: All right, I'll run it by Rafe, and just see what he thinks, okay?
Daniel: Okay, let me, um, let me walk you to your car.
Nicole: Sure. You're always thinking of ways to help me. It's like you never stop.
Daniel: Well, I, uh... keep my word.
Nicole: And I'm gonna keep mine. I'm gonna make it up to you. Just...how to figure out the best way.
Rafe: The hell do you want?
EJ: This is just a courtesy call to let you know that I plan on keeping up my end of the bargain, and making sure that your sweet, beautiful little sister does not spend the next 10 or 20 years in state penitentiary.
Rafe: As long as I stay away from Sami. I stick to my word. I just saw Sami. It's done.
EJ: Poor Samantha. She must be feeling terrible.
Hope: Hey, Roman.
Roman: Hey. Uh, I was wondering, could you work on those for me?
Roman: On the qt?
Hope: Yeah, anything for you. Uh, these are the, uh, personnel records for the--the junior detectives on staff.
Roman: Yeah, yeah. You've worked with all of 'em. Want your evaluations-- who stands out, who's got potential.
Hope: Are you thinking about promoting one of them in case Bo decides to leave?
Roman: Exactly. I also have to make cuts, but seniority will guide those decisions. God, Hope, I hate making cuts. But unfortunately...I got no choice.
Caroline: Can't make up your mind to save your life?
Bo: Mmm. Meh, thinkin'.
Caroline: Yeah, I could hear the gears cranking.
Bo: [Chuckles] Hey, did you see this?
Bo: I arrested that guy. He went to trial. He's convicted for carjacking. Now he's off the streets.
Bo: Carjacked seven women. Two of them had kids in the car. This is why I do what I do.
Caroline: You know, that's true, and...so is this.
Bo: Wow, that's a great shot, huh?
Caroline: That's three years old.
Bo: No--this is not three-- oh, wow.
Caroline: Time goes by like lightning, Bo, you know? Get a lot of people in here every day speaking about their regrets. I never hear one of them say that they wished they'd spent less time with their families. Keep the picture. I got a couple.
Abigail: I--I'm really sorry, mom. I should've told you immediately what Nicole said to me.
Jennifer: And you know what? I think that she actually thinks she's getting away with it, that I can't see for myself what a lying, manipulative, small person she is.
Abigail: The thing is I think that Nicole's just really lonely.
Jennifer: Lonely? Honey, please don't buy into that. Okay, it is all an act. She is not capable of being honest and direct. It is all lies and manipulation, Abigail.
Abigail: Okay. I'm really sorry, mom. I get it, I totally get it, and no more talking to Nicole, not even about the weather, okay? I promise. What? What are you thinking?
Jennifer: I'm just thinking that Nicole's life is about to get a whole lot lonelier.
Abigail: What does that mean?
Jennifer: She is about to hurt someone very badly that doesn't deserve it, and I am gonna stop it.
Abigail: Who is she all set out to hurt, mom? Daniel? Is this about Daniel? You're feeling protective over him, is that it?
Jennifer: Wait, if you're talking about Daniel and I in the past, just stop thinking that. Please, he saved my life. He is an amazing friend, and that is it.
Abigail: That's it? You don't still have feelings for him?
Jennifer: How can you say that? How can you say that I could possibly have feelings for another man, when my husband just--
Abigail: God, mom.
Jennifer: I'm sorry. I'm totally overreacting again. I'm sorry.
Abigail: No, mom, it's okay. Look, it's my fault. It--I was stupid and insensitive--
Jennifer: It's not your fault, it's not. I could've just said no, but I don't. I-I don't have feelings for Daniel anymore.
Jennifer: And this whole stupid, ridiculous plan is my fault. I never should've offered to let Nicole stay with us.
Abigail: Hey, mom! You were just trying to help Maggie out.
Jennifer: It doesn't matter. It was stupid, and it's been so hard for you, and it's been really hard for me. I need to get back to work.
Abigail: Mom. I'm sorry. I feel horrible that I upset you again.
Jennifer: It's fine. It's fine. I need to know what Nicole's saying about me, right? Knowledge is power.
Abigail: Yeah, that's right.
Jennifer: I'll see you later.
Abigail: Okay. Love you.
Jennifer: Love you. [Exhales] [Sighs] Daniel. What has that woman gotten you into?
Gabi: Is this a bad time, 'cause I was thinking that maybe we could set up, like, a payment schedule, or something like that, because I know that Justin is an expensive lawyer.
Rafe: Gabi, Gabi, Gabi. You don't have to do this.
Gabi: Rafe, okay, look--just listen to me, all right? Look, I was this stupid little girl thinking that I was in control. In fact, I was complete opposite of that. And you know what? People could've been killed, and I need to take responsibility for my actions and just hope for a light sentence, and I am not gonna make you pay for my mistakes, so just--
Rafe: No, no, no, Gabi, Gabi. You don't owe me anything, okay?
Gabi: Rafe, I--
Rafe: No, no, no, listen. You're my sister. You're my sister. I love you, and I would do anything for you. Anything. End of story.
[Knocks at door]
Sami: Who is it?
EJ: It's EJ. Hi. Look what I found at the mansion. Johnny must've left it there. I'm imagining he's probably driving you crazy at the moment, but, even so, I thought I'd drop it o-over. Samantha? Are you okay?
Sami: Yeah, I'm fine.
EJ: Hey, are you okay?
Sami: I said I'm fine.
Gabi: Hi, I have been trying to call you.
Abigail: I know, I lost my cell phone.
Gabi: I stopped by your house. I was getting worried.
Abigail: I'm sorry. We have so much planning to do for the wedding, and I haven't heard from Melanie, either. I'm sure she's probably been trying to track me down.
Gabi: Well, she's probably sent you a bunch of messages to say good-bye.
Gabi: Melanie left town. The wedding's off.
Abigail: Oh, my God, what-- what happened?
Gabi: I don't know. I guess she realized that it wasn't what she wanted.
Ms. Horton is here, yes, but she specifically asked not to be disturbed. I'm just following orders, ma'am. I can take a message.
Jennifer: I don't care if you hate me, Daniel. I owe you. Yes, hello, I'm calling on behalf of EJ DiMera. Yes, I was just wonder--
Nicole: Rafe. Hey.
Nicole: What--are you okay?
EJ: It's okay. I'm here. Samantha, what is it? What's wrong? It's not about the children, is it? Okay, tell me what it is.
Sami: You were right. You were right, and you said that Rafe would never be able to get past wh-what happened between us. You were right. He never will.
EJ: Sweetheart, I'm sorry. [Whispering] It's okay.
