Chad: I think visiting Carly is a great idea. Okay? It's time away from Salem. It's distance from everyone and everything here.

Melanie: I'm surprised you're so happy about it.

Chad: Yeah, well, I mean, we can make up classes later. I mean, this is more important. Okay? I'm-- I could be ready by tomorrow--

Melanie: No. I'm going to see my mom. By myself. Without you. I need time. Okay? I need some space.

Chad: You mean, away from me? A few hours ago we were-- we were planning our wedding. Our honeymoon, our whole lives together.

Melanie: I know.

Chad: And I said I was sorry.

Melanie: I know you're sorry. And I know you were just trying to protect me.

Chad: I don't know what else to do.

Melanie: Neither do I.

Chad: Look, I-I still love you, Mel. Everything you felt for me, it's just-- it's gone, just like that? I mean, don't you love me anymore?

Howard: Give me a name.

EJ: It's our old friend, Rafael Hernandez.

Howard: Oh-- I know people who would fight for the privilege. You want him dead?

EJ: No. No, I'm not going to do this my father's way. I don't want any blood on my hands. You understand?

Howard: Yes, sir.

EJ: No, we have to find another way to bring him down, once and for all.

Sami: So the date meant nothing, is that it?

Rafe: What, Sami? It was dinner. No strings, remember?

Sami: That was before you kissed me.

Rafe: Okay--

Sami: I mean, there was a solid minute there, where I actually thought that it felt like a year ago, and everything was perfect.

Rafe: Oh, everything was never perfect.

Sami: So you're really going to stand there and tell me that you didn't feel anything?

Will: Hey.

Sonny: Hey.

Will: Ahh.

Sonny: What's going on?

Will: It's nice and quiet. Good place to study. Except that I don't feel like, uh, thinking about economics right now.

Sonny: I know what you mean.

Brady: Okay. Bye, bill. Wha--

Marlena: What?

Brady: What are you doing here?

Marlena: I came to see you.

Brady: Well... you found me, here I am.

Marlena: Mm-hmm. Help me with something.

Brady: Mm-hmm?

Marlena: Are you really as fine as you want everybody to think that you are?

Brady: Actually, yeah. I am.

Nick: Why would you tell me, of all people? You barely know me.

Gabi: I don't know, I guess I felt like I, um, owe it to the truth. I mean, you're not the only person who's said something stupid or felt ashamed or felt like they had something to prove to the world.

Nick: You don't have to prove anything to me.

Gabi: Thank you for saying that, and thank you for giving me the courage to do the right thing.

Chad: I made a terrible mistake.

Melanie: It wasn't just one mistake. Gabi hired someone to pretend to stalk her, and he kidnapped me, and he almost killed me. And when you found out, you didn't tell me. And you never would've, right? Because you think I can't control my own life, I can't handle my own life because I need you there to tell me what I want and what I need. Right, Chad?

Chad: Melanie. Listen to me. One of the reasons I fell in love with you is because you are strong and feisty, and you know what you want at all times. These last few weeks, with everything that's happened, you've been a mess. We've all been a mess, and I was just trying not to make things worse than they already were.

Melanie: Yeah, well, you made them 100 times worse!

Chad: So I-I don't understand, okay? You--you're furious at me, but not at Gabi?

Melanie: I'm furious at Gabi! But just because I didn't call the police on her doesn't mean that I will ever forgive her.

Chad: What about me? Will you ever be able to forgive me?

EJ: Now that Samantha's sister is out of the picture, she and Rafe are growing increasingly close, which is making it increasingly difficult for me to discredit him in her eyes. So we need to do something now before this bloody baby's born.

Howard: And before she falls in love with him again--

EJ: That's not going to happen, nor is he going to be a father to my child. This thing has to be perfectly planned, do you understand me? Samantha can have no idea that I had a hand in this.

Howard: And you live happily ever after?

EJ: I'll live a lot more happily than he will.

Rafe: I'm sorry, okay? The kiss was-- look, I want to talk to you about this, I just can't right now, okay? I've got--

[Cell phone ringing]

Rafe: I gotta deal with this--

Sami: Is something wrong? I mean, do you need help? Do you need--

Rafe: No, what I need-- I just need you to stop pushing me right now, okay? For once in your life, can you do that?

Melanie: I don't know if I'll be able to forgive you or see you the same way. It's why I have to go alone, so I can figure out some things.

Chad: Out of sight, out of mind.

Melanie: Never. But I need to do some serious thinking about what I want to do with the rest of my life.

Chad: And I need to know if I'm going to be a part of that life. So...

Sonny: We should get back to work.

Will: No.

Sonny: Yes--

Will: Come on--no, put that away. Do we have to?

Sonny: The quicker that we study, the more time we'll have to, you know, do whatever.

Will: Okay, works for me.

Sonny: Yeah?

Will: Yeah.

Lucas: Hey.

Sonny: Hey, Mr. Horton.

Will: Hey.

Lucas: How you guys doing? You studying hard?

Will: Oh, yeah, you know. Always.

Lucas: Nice, nice. What do you got? A little economics, ooh, that's tough. That's really tough. Sonny, you should be good at that, though, right? I mean, you've run your own business, you're very successful. You could probably teach that class.

[Phone beeping]

Sonny: No, believe me, I got-- I have plenty to learn. Like, juggling my work and the rest of my life. Barista just called in sick, so I have to go to the coffeehouse. Um, I'm really sorry. Do you wanna just come by later, and we can wrap this up, finish studying?

Will: Yeah.

Sonny: Is that good?

Will: Yeah.

Sonny: Bye, Mr. Horton. See you later.

Lucas: All righty there, Sonny. Take care.

Sonny: You too.

Lucas: You all right?

Will: Yeah. How you doing?

Lucas: I'm good, I'm good. When were you going to tell me that you guys were an item?

Will: Oh. Uh-- well, we're not really an item, we just went on a few dates. I-is it okay--I don't wanna talk about it right now.

Lucas: Yeah. No, that-- that makes two of us, definitely.

Will: Okay.

Lucas: Well, I mean, if this is-- if this is what you want, then I-I'm happy for you. You know.

Will: Yeah?

Lucas: Yeah.

Will: Okay. Uh-- I'm gonna get-- I'm--I think I'm gonna get something, you want-- want anything?

Lucas: No, no, no, I'm good. I got errands to run later.

Will: Okay. All right, well, um-- I-I guess I'll see you round.

Lucas: Yeah. Yeah, you will.

Will: Okay, see you.

Lucas: Take care.

Nick: Gabi, um... considering everything that I've done, I'm the last person in the world who could ever judge.

Gabi: I know, but, I mean, I did something awful. Right? Wasn't it?

Nick: Yeah. It was-- it was kind of awful. But I understand how it started out. You know, the only thing is, once you sensed it was getting out of hand--

Gabi: Yeah, I should have stopped it, I know. I should've admitted to everything right away.

Nick: Yeah, but, I mean, obviously that's--that's-- that's not easy to do.

Gabi: No, it's not. And something like this is never gonna happen to me ever again.

Nick: I believe you. And I'm really glad that you felt comfortable talking to me. Uh, but really, the-- the person you-- you should talk to is, uh, is a lawyer.

Gabi: Yeah, I know. Uh, my brother's working on that. My brother's a cop, and he's covering up for me. [Sighs deeply] I don't even know what I'm going to tell this lawyer guy, I mean, I don't even know-- I don't understand what is going on, and how-- how am I gonna make him understand?

Nick: Yeah. I know exactly what you mean, believe me. But from what you're telling me, it honestly-- it sounds like you were a victim too.

Gabi: Yeah, I mean, a victim of my own stupidity.

Nick: I mean, did you know that Andrew was an escaped mental patient with an alias? Did you know what he was gonna do to Melanie? Did you want him to do something bad to her?

Gabi: Aside from wanting her boyfriend to break up with her, no.

Nick: So then stop acting so guilty about it. I mean, unless-- unless you want to go to prison for what you did.

Melanie: I don't know if I'm coming back. All I know is I'm taking my life back.

Chad: How are we even going to try and work on things if you're gonna be on another continent?

Melanie: I don't know. All I can think about is myself right now, I'm sorry. So if you need a clean break, then--

Chad: No, no, no. That is not what I want. I will wait for you. As long as it takes. But could you-- could you please just-- just give me a little hope here. Look. I will-- I will not give up on us. I'll see you before you go.

Melanie: [Sobs]

Howard: What would you like me to do?

EJ: Think on it. And be ready when I call you.

Howard: Will do.

[Cell phone ringing]

EJ: Hello?

Chad: EJ. I, uh-- I'm--I'm so sorry to bother you.

EJ: Chad. What's wrong?

Chad: I, uh-- I-I need your help, and I-I didn't know who else to turn to.

EJ: That's what brothers are for. What can I do for you? Uh, o-okay. Chad, I'm on my way.

Rafe: Okay, so what-- do you want to talk about the kiss? It happened. You know, it was a spur-of-the-moment thing. Did I enjoy it? Yes. It was amazing, okay? And, yes, it did remind me of all the incredible times that we had. But sometimes a kiss is just a kiss.

Sami: And sometimes it's not.

Rafe: Right. Listen. Sami, the feelings that we had for each other, they're not just gonna go away. They just don't.

Sami: I know they don't.

Rafe: But neither does the betrayal. I don't trust you right now, and I don't know if I ever will. Ah.

Brady: I still wake up every morning and look for Madison next to me in bed, and it's, uh-- well, you know, thank god for my job. 'Cause I'll tell you what, I don't--I don't have the time to drive myself crazy about it or to fall off the wagon or anything like that because I'm busy every minute of every day lately.

Marlena: That can be an invaluable coping mechanism, especially in the first few months.

Brady: I miss working with dad, though.

Marlena: I know. He misses you too. But he knows this is what's best for you right now.

Brady: He has been so amazing. And I remember saying some not-so-wonderful things about dad to Madison, and I regret it. I-I-I shouldn't have said those things. I blamed him, and I-- I blamed you. I bl--I blamed everyone but me about what was going wrong in my life, and that was wrong. It was all on me.

Marlena: Brady, Brady--

Brady: I just-- I need to say this to you. Thank you. Thank you for supporting me. You always did, and I owe you two so much.

Sami: I get it. I broke your trust. I threw away our marriage, and I broke your heart.

Rafe: Yeah. You did.

Sami: But can you honestly say that you're happier now than you were when we were together?

Rafe: Sami, I can't do this right now.

Sami: Okay.

Rafe: I just--

Sami: Yes, of course. Sorry. Um, I'll see you later. Or not.

[Cell phone ringing]

Rafe: Justin?

Justin: Hey, I just sent you a text.

Rafe: Yeah, I was just about to reply.

Justin: My meeting was canceled, so I can meet with you after all.

Rafe: Excellent. I'm on my way.

Sami: Yeah, maybe I do push too much. I don't care what Rafe says. It meant something.

Adrienne: Hey. I thought you had a deposition this afternoon.

Justin: Well, it just got canceled.

Adrienne: Really? Call that serendipity, my yoga class was called off as well.

Justin: Oh, well, I wish I knew that five minutes ago. I just made an appointment with Rafe.

Adrienne: Great.

Justin: Sorry.

Adrienne: No, so much for serendipity, I guess.

Justin: There's always tonight.

Adrienne: Yeah, you can pencil me into your planner.

Justin: I think I can be trusted to remember.

Adrienne: Really? Mmm.

Justin: [Chuckles]

Adrienne: Mmm.

Justin: Adrienne.

Adrienne: No, what? I'm not interfering. I learned my lesson.

Justin: But obviously, you're still not too happy about the fact that Sonny and will are going out.

Adrienne: I don't want him to break our son's heart. What's wrong with that?

Justin: They're kids, okay? They're both going to have their hearts broken plenty of times. It's part of life. There's nothing we can do about it.

Adrienne: You're probably right.

Justin: What do you mean, "probably"?

Adrienne: Okay.

Justin: I love you.

Adrienne: Honey, I love you.

EJ: Chad, I'm really sorry.

Chad: Not as sorry as I am.

EJ: All right, look. Let me just-- let me see if I've got this straight. Melanie expects you to sit here and twiddle your thumbs, while she gallivants around Europe carefully weighing whether or not she might deign to come back to you?

Chad: It--it's not like that, okay? I can't believe Gabi opened her damn mouth. I mean, if that little bitch had just done what she was told, none of this would have happened.

EJ: Whoa, wait a second. What exactly does Gabi Hernandez have to do with all of this?

Gabi: When I found out that Andrew had Melanie, I didn't tell anybody. And--and then he said he'd call the police, and I totally freaked out.

Nick: But now you want to turn yourself in?

Gabi: I just can't live with feeling guilty like this.

Nick: Okay, but do you think that confessing it to everybody who will listen will help?

Gabi: I'm not telling everybody who'll listen. I'm telling the people who matter.

Nick: Do you feel better?

Gabi: Telling you? Yeah. I do.

Nick: Good. So, you know, uh-- let Rafe do his big brother thing. Find a lawyer, get a good defense. Just-- you gotta do everything you can to help yourself.

Gabi: Yeah, like what?

Nick: Stay away from Chad. Stay away from Melanie.

Gabi: Yeah. Definitely can do that.

Nick: All right, um-- I should finish bussing my tables, so Mrs. Brady doesn't dock my pay.

Gabi: Yeah. Yeah, you better do that.

Melanie: [Clears throat]

Lucas: You okay? You seem annoyed.

Sami: Since when do you care?

Lucas: Oh, I always care, actually. I just have to keep a safe distance from you, right? You still haven't answered my question.

Sami: I'm fine. Thanks. I, uh, don't know which of these masterpieces is supposed to be the one she wanted to--

Lucas: I think Allie said it was a portrait of, um--

Sami: Will?

Lucas: That's will. The stick figure. Yeah, how the hell did you know that?

Sami: Oh, because he's her favorite subject. Her big brother, her hero.

Lucas: Well, speaking of will, I saw him. He was with Sonny.

Sami: Oh. Wow, okay. So they're still friends after what happened with Adrienne?

Lucas: Oh, from what I saw, yeah. I'd say they're more than friends, sure.

Sami: What did you see?

Lucas: I saw them kissing each other. Right there, in the middle of the Horton town square, for everyone to see.

Sonny: Hey, you made it.

Will: Uh, yeah, I did.

Sonny: Well, I'm gonna get this done, and then I'll, uh, meet you at the table.

Will: Okay.

Sonny: All right?

Will: All right, no rush, you know?

Adrienne: Is this seat taken?

Will: Oh, uh, no. No, have a seat.

Adrienne: Thank you. Um... I understand you overheard something. Something I never should have said.

Will: Oh, yeah, I mean, in-- within earshot of me, you mean.

Adrienne: No. Never. I was wrong. And I hope you can forgive me.

Gabi: I was just gonna go.

Melanie: I would like you to stay.

Gabi: Okay, can I just say something first?

Melanie: Go ahead.

Gabi: Melanie... look, I know that there's nothing worse than being betrayed by a friend. And trust me, I-- I will accept my punishment. I just want you to know that I never wanted you to get hurt, ever. And I know that that is hard to believe. But it's the truth.

EJ: Why didn't you go to the police when you learned what Gabi had done?

Chad: I know, I should've, but Mel was in such a bad place, okay? And I didn't want her thinking that she couldn't even trust one of her best friends. And then this whole thing with Nick's parole came up, and it all just seemed like it was too much.

EJ: The truth would've been a lot easier coming from you, Chad.

Chad: Yeah, I-I get that, okay? But I didn't think that Gabi was going to go confessing all over the place, okay? She and I had a deal. Okay, look, I know she was a liar, but I didn't think she would risk going to jail.

EJ: Chad! You almost went to jail when you beat up Nick!

Chad: It was stupid, and-- and I was--

EJ: Oh, you--you were defending the woman you love.

Chad: Okay, well, the woman that I love thinks that I was being a DiMera.

EJ: Being a DiMera? Chad, you were acting like a bloody hero. Come on. Has she never read Othello?

Chad: I don't know. But I have, and it didn't end too well. I can't believe this. Nick and Gabi get to go on with their merry lives, while I lose the woman that I love.

EJ: Okay, look, Chad. What exactly would you like me to do about this?

Chad: I want Gabi to pay. And I need to think of a way to keep Melanie from leaving Salem. Because if she does, I know I'll lose her. Can you help me?

Sami: Well, I am glad that will and Sonny have worked things out.

Lucas: Yeah, yeah.

Sami: But you don't seem glad.

Lucas: You know what, Sami? I want what will wants. I really do, but I just wish he'd be a little bit more discreet about it, you know?

Sami: Really? Why is that? 'Cause it's easier to talk the talk? To say that you're okay with your son being gay than to actually see your son living the life of a gay man?

Lucas: I'm not gonna lie.

Sami: Good. 'Cause you wouldn't get away with it even if you tried.

Lucas: I love our son. I love him so much for who he is, but... I don't know, after seeing him make out with another guy like that, in public, in front of everybody, I don't know, to me, it just-- maybe I just need time, you know? Maybe I just need a little time to get used to it, and then everything will be fine.

Sami: Okay, I get that. But, Lucas, you don't have a lot of time. You have to find a way to get used to it. Your mom and I had a major smack-down on Adrienne. There's no way her son is too good for ours, right?

Lucas: No, I know. You're right, you're right. Yeah, he's not.

Sami: Look, I think that will and Sonny are good for each other.

Lucas: Yeah, yeah, they are. He's-- Sonny's a really good kid. He is.

Sami: And you are a really good dad. Think about it. I'm gonna put this in an envelope so that you or our daughter do not screw it up with sticky fingers.

Will: Uh-- it's okay. It's--

Adrienne: No, no, no. It's never okay to tear someone down because of their family, and I really hope that you can accept my apology.

Will: Yeah, oh, of course. Thank you.

Adrienne: No, will, thank you. Thank you. So, um, I'm gonna let you get back to your studies, okay?

Will: Okay.

Adrienne: Thank you.

Sonny: Well, I hope you were saying what I think you were saying.

Adrienne: I apologized, and will accepted.

Sonny: Thank you.

Adrienne: Just hope that you can do the same someday.

Sonny: Mom, I do, okay? But you have to promise me that you're going to keep an open mind. 'Cause if you do, you're going to realize how great of a guy will is.

Justin: I know this is tricky, and I-- you know, I don't want you to incriminate yourself.

Rafe: Yeah.

Justin: But I'm gonna need a little bit more information about what your sister did.

Rafe: Right. Yeah, the thing is, I'm not exactly sure about all the, uh-- the details.

Justin: Okay. So maybe I should just speak to her directly.

Rafe: That would be best, yeah. And of course I will pay you a retainer, whatever it takes.

Justin: Okay. Well, let's just see what she has to say first.

Rafe: Okay. Listen, anything you can do to help my sister, of course I greatly appreciate it.

Gabi: So, um-- what did you need to say to me?

Melanie: Bye. I'm leaving Salem. I'm gonna go visit my mom.

Gabi: Oh, uh--

Melanie: I shouldn't be the one that has to walk away from my life. You know that, right?

Gabi: I know. So, uh-- you're gonna go turn me in before you leave, aren't you?

Melanie: No.

Gabi: Why not?

Melanie: Would be a long, drawn-out process. And even though you're not directly responsible for what happened to me, you set the plan in motion. But I just don't care enough about you. But it's not over. And don't thank me because I didn't do this for you. Chad is out for your blood, so watch your back. Nick, hi. Um, I wanted to talk to you too.

Gabi: Melanie? I just want you to know that I hope that everything--

Melanie: Good-bye, Gabi. Wow. I can't believe he did that to you. I'm so sorry.

EJ: Okay, Chad, listen to me. Hey. The first thing that you need to do, brother-- just take a deep breath, and pull yourself together.

Chad: Yeah, right.

EJ: Okay? No, listen, I mean it, all right? Melanie hasn't left town yet, okay? So just leave this with me. I can fix it. All right?

Chad: Thank you.

EJ: Okay?

Chad: Wait a minute, you-- you really think that you can convince Melanie to give me another chance?

EJ: Trust me.

Marlena: Brady, you know that your dad and I are always here to support you. We always have been.

Brady: I know. Took me long enough to realize that too, that you always have been. Even when I acted like a jerk, you always supported me.

Marlena: [Laughing] There are things we wish we had done differently.

Brady: So do I. But the way you've always been there for me, I want you to know that I will always be there for you and dad as well. Always.

Marlena: Thank you.

Sonny: Hey. Sorry I'm late, it got busier than I thought.

Will: Oh, it's okay. I've been studying. Ask me anything you want about the European union 'cause I got it down.

Sonny: That's good to hear because, uh, I don't wanna be looking at books tonight.

Will: Okay, then how are you gonna, uh, learn the material?

Sonny: Um, well, I'm--I'm off tomorrow night.

Will: Yeah, but there's this Hitchcock festival going on downtown. It's--it's-- I think it starts tomorrow. It's a different movie every night, so--

Sonny: All right, um, well, I guess I'll be studying next week.

Will: Okay! I like that. Although I don't really want to disrupt your academic pursuits. What would your mom say?

Sonny: My mom said that, uh, you know, college is all about finding your passion. So, uh, you know.

Will: Okay! See you later.

Sonny: All right, I'm counting on it.

Nick: Melanie, this isn't your fault. Chad loves you. He thought I'd done something to hurt you. I understand why he went crazy.

Melanie: Yeah, but he could have killed you if Gabi didn't stop him.

Nick: But he d-- but she did. I'm okay. But you're not.

Melanie: I almost married somebody I didn't know, and this wouldn't be my first time doing that. Maybe it's me who doesn't know myself at all.

Nick: You know what? If I wasn't here in Salem, you wouldn't be asking yourself any of these questions.

Melanie: Maybe not. But I think it's good I am.

Justin: Your brother thought it might be a good idea for you to speak to an attorney.

Gabi: Uh, yeah. Did he tell you what I did?

Justin: No. He thought I should hear it from you. Don't be afraid. I'm here to help you.

Gabi: Well, you're not going to want to help me when you find out what I did.

Will: Hey.

Sami: Hey! Hey, your dad told me things worked out with you and Sonny.

Will: Oh, he did? Uh... yeah. We--we had a date, or half a date, anyway, so-- it went well.

Sami: Okay, okay. Sounds promising.

Will: Yeah. Love is in the-- well, yeah. By the way, I heard that you had, um, a date with Rafe. How did that go?

[Knock at door]

Rafe: Yeah--

EJ: Hello, Rafe.

Rafe: EJ. Look, now is not really a good time, so--

EJ: I think you'll want to make time when you hear what I have to say.

Justin: Gabi, I'm not here to judge you. I'll do whatever I can for you. First, I need the facts.

Gabi: But it--it's really a long story.

Justin: I'm listening.

Chad: I hope you can help me, EJ.

Melanie: I think you coming to Salem has been kind of a blessing in a weird way because I learned a lot about myself and about other people. Apparently I don't have a very good judge of character. But maybe that's because I spent most of my life alone. And I came here, and I was shown what a wonderful family is really like.

Nick: You're not wrong about the wonderful part.

Melanie: The Hortons have been so amazing to me. And they'll help you too, so lean on them, okay?

Nick: I absolutely will.

Melanie: Take care.

Nick: You too.

Lucas: Hi, Adrienne.

Adrienne: Oh, Lucas. Um-- if you're looking for will, he just left.

Lucas: No, actually I was looking for you.

Adrienne: Me?

Lucas: Yeah, I heard Sami really laid into you for trying to come between will and Sonny.

Adrienne: Lucas, I'm sorry for what I said.

Lucas: No, wait a minute. I get it. I do. To be honest with you, uh, I'm not so sure you were wrong.

Will: I didn't think it was a hard question. How was your date with Rafe?

Sami: Well... it wasn't really much of a date at all, 'cause according to Rafe, it meant nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Rafe: So... what is it that you want, huh?

EJ: I know what your sister did. To Melanie and my brother. So why don't we discuss what we're going to do about that?
