Sami: Look, if you've moved on and that's the truth, then that's fine. I understand that. But that's all I want. I wanna know the truth.
Rafe: I thought I was done. But I could never get past what happened--you did to end the relationship. How I felt whenever I looked at you.
Rafe: I don't know.
Sami: So don't you think we should find out? I mean, we could start by just talking. Get together, sit down. It could be simple. Dinner or something and--
Sami: Just figure things out. No pressure, I promise. What's the worst that could happen?
Rafe: You really want me to answer that? Yeah, I'm sorry, just, uh... I think you're asking more than I can give right now.
Nicole: Hi, you precious little thing. I love you with all my heart and I want you to always know that. Yes, I do. Yeah. Daniel Raphael Hernandez. What a perfect name for our perfect little boy.
EJ: I think you mean our baby, sweetheart. Our baby.
Nicole: Oh, God. [Gasps] Oh, good. It's okay, Daniel Raphael. [Laughs] It's kind of a mouthful, isn't it? Maybe I can call you D.R. [Sighs] So, kiddo, are you gonna be a doctor, like your namesake? Oh, God, on second thought, no initials. Nothing to remind us of he who shall not be named. God, I know--I know--I know you're...you're asking how am I gonna keep EJ from finding out that he's really your father and I--I don't want you to worry, okay? Because I'm gonna make that happen. I just... I just have to figure out a way. Just have to figure out a way.
Adrienne: Oh, Maggie, thank God. How are you?
Maggie: Oh, you probably don't wanna ask.
Adrienne: Why? What's wrong?
Maggie: I'm on my way for a meeting with Melanie for her fitting. With a seamstress that you recommended. To perform an impossible task of getting her gown ready for her wedding in two weeks.
Adrienne: What's wrong with that?
Maggie: What's wrong with that? Hmm... Adrienne, Melanie is taking a flying leap into disaster. And you-- you gave her the green light to go through with it.
Chad: Mel, you home? No note. Where are you?
Melanie: We need to talk. Because I--I can't put this off any longer.
Nick: I mean, are you sure this is a good idea? I don't wanna make this any more uncomfortable for you than--than it already is.
Melanie: I don't think that's possible.
Nick: I'm sorry.
Melanie: Ever since I found out you were up for parole, I let worrying about you take over my life. I can't do that anymore. So it--it has to end now.
Sonny: Hey, Will. Uh, not really sure why you canceled. Just wanted to see what happened, so, uh, give me a call back. I'd love to hear from you.
Marlena: Is that your new dog whistle ring? The one that I can't hear?
Will: No, just on silent.
Marlena: Do you wanna return the call?
Will: No, it's okay.
Marlena: I don't mind.
Will: No. I--it's okay.
Adrienne: I--I'm confused. I thought you liked Chad.
Maggie: Uh, I--I do.
Adrienne: Okay, so then I'm crazy to think that you'd be happy that Melanie was marrying him? What?
Maggie: I'm sorry, Adrienne. I--I didn't mean to take my frustrations out on you. You had no way of knowing.
Adrienne: Knowing what?
Maggie: I lied to Melanie. I told her I supported this decision. But Adrienne, I really don't. And I think that she's rushing into this marriage for all the wrong reasons.
Chad: Damn it.
Nick: I hate that I've made you uncomfortable. And if it weren't for the conditions of my parole, I wouldn't even be in Salem.
Melanie: I know. I know, that's not your fault. I don't blame you for that. It's just the situation with you and with Andrew. I just keep trying to move forward. [Sad chuckle]
Nick: I know what you mean.
Melanie: So you work at the Brady pub with one of my best friends. We're pretty much family, so our paths are gonna cross, like, a lot. And I just don't wanna spend the rest of my life worried that you might be around every corner.
Nick: So you've come to face your demon head on. What do you want from me?
Melanie: I just wanna know if what everyone's saying is true. Have you changed?
Marlena: You seem a little tense. Am I right?
Will: Yeah, you are right. I'm a lot tense, actually.
Marlena: Mm. Would this have to do with a conversation from the other day? The young man that you're liking a little bit?
Marlena: I was hoping that was going better. Wanna talk about it?
Will: No, not really.
Marlena: Okay. Just to say and remind you, that if this young man, whoever he is, doesn't think you're spectacular, he's not worth your time.
Will: Well, I don't know how he feels, but I did overhear someone saying that I wasn't good enough for him.
Marlena: And that's not true.
Will: It is true. I know it is. That's the problem.
Nicole: [Chuckles] And this blue is gonna match your eyes because you are gonna take after your mom and your dad. I know, I know, I know. Daniel is not really your dad. Not yet, anyway. I'm really hoping that maybe you can call him that some day because he's been so good to us and we deserve to be happy, damn it. Darn it. I just have a few things to figure out. Like EJ, of course, wants yet another DNA test, right? And Jennifer is working at the hospital, snooping around. Bitch. I'm sorry, I didn't mean that. Actually, you know what? I did mean that. Ooh. I can't believe she actually thinks I'm using Rafe and Daniel. Ow! Ow! Kiddo, hey. That hurts. Ooh. You know what, what if she is right? So what, they wanted to help. They care about us. I mean, why can't anyone believe that Rafe wanted to be with me and make a baby together? [Sighs] Wait a minute. That's it. You know what they say. A picture is worth a thousand words.
EJ: Oh. A cheery hello to you, Billie. And a cheery good-bye.
Billie: I heard you got into it with Rafe. Over Sami Brady of all people.
EJ: It had nothing to do with Samantha.
Billie: You know, I've known Sami for years and she has this way of holding onto a guy's heart or part of him, anyway, for years. Defies logic.
EJ: You're worried about me? That's very touching.
Billie: No, I'm not worried about you. I'm worried about my niece and nephew. I don't want Allie and Will getting caught in the crossfire.
EJ: Okay, well, I can assure you that my days of fighting Rafe Hernandez are over.
Billie: Oh, so you've given up on Sami?
Sami: Rafe, am I really asking so much?
Sami: A few minutes of your time.
Rafe: Then what?
Sami: Well that's up to you.
Sami: Why wouldn't it be? I'm not asking for a commitment. I'm not asking for a do-over.
Rafe: Thank God for that.
Sami: I know I can be pushy sometimes.
Sami: And even I know that would be asking too much. Look, this is just simple. Dinner. I'll--I'll cook.
Rafe: Oh, that's supposed to sell me?
Sami: Okay, you're right, I'll buy.
Sami: You know why. I feel like I have a lot I have to make up to you. I wanna do this for you. For us.
Rafe: There is no us.
Sami: Right. I know. I mean, I thought I knew... and it seems like ever since you arrested me, things have been different. I mean you got in that fight with EJ.
Rafe: I told you that wasn't about you.
Sami: Right it wasn't about me. And then you're defending me to Kate?
Rafe: Well I--that meant nothing.
Sami: All these nothings are starting to add up. Makes a girl wonder what's really going on.
Rafe: You calling me a liar?
Sami: Just saying I would like a chance to clear the air. Don't tell me that you don't want the same thing.
Nicole: [Chuckles] I know, I know, you probably think I'm a sap for taking these pictures with me wherever I go. But I'm looking for a picture of Rafe on Horton Island. Ah-ha! There we go. [Chuckles] Beautiful. Mwah.
EJ: You'll forgive me, Billie, but I really don't see why you're so concerned with Samantha's love life.
Billie: Well she did break my brother's heart. Both of theirs actually. Repeatedly.
EJ: Okay, but, um, Austin is a continent away and Samantha and Lucas are through.
Billie: Yes, Lucas is through with her, but you must know that when Sami Brady is a woman scorned, which she is often, whoo, watch out.
EJ: It's funny you say that, actually, because I'd heard exactly the same thing about you.
Billie: You know, most people evolve over a couple of decades. Sami's got four kids, but I think that deep down, she's still this lonely little girl looking for the daddy that she never had, because your father took him away.
EJ: Well, cosmetics counter girl come psychologist.
Billie: Come on. Anyone with a brain could see it. You're just so blindsided by her mysterious charms. Sami Brady wants a white knight, and you don't exactly fit that bill. I don't know. I would bet money on the fact that she's just gonna keep all of her options open.
Sami: Could you say something? Anything?
Rafe: Sorry. The answer's still no. Well, I told Nicole if I saw you, I was gonna cross to the other side of the street.
Sami: But you didn't.
Rafe: Well...but I am. So... see you later.
Adrienne: So, let me guess. Um, Victor is worried about Melanie marrying a DiMera.
Maggie: Mm, he is.
Adrienne: Well I remember when I was first engaged to Justin. The deeper that he would get into the family business, the more different a person he would become. And I was really nervous that I was getting in over my head. In fact, it took me forever to pull the trigger. No, no, figuratively speaking, of course.
Maggie: No. [Giggles]
Adrienne: And I know I was young, very young, but looking back I really wish we hadn't waited so long.
Maggie: Well, it's not just that Melanie is so young. She has a good head on her shoulders, but she's impulsive. And I'm afraid. I'm afraid Chad is pushing her, because after everything that happened with Andrew and now having Nick released from prison...
Adrienne: He feels the need to protect her.
Adrienne: Just like you did.
Adrienne: Sweetie, I know. I know you're her grandmother. It's your job. And believe me, I raised four boys who bungee jumped and mountain climbed and just about sent me to an early death. Sonny being the biggest daredevil of them all. One thing I learned through all that is the harder I pushed to get them to do it my way, the more they were dead set against and doing just the opposite.
Adrienne: Mm-hmm. Now see, I know nothing about raising girls. So you have to tell me were Melissa and Sarah like that at all?
Maggie: [Laughs] Of course, they were.
Adrienne: Of course, they were.
Maggie: You're absolutely right. You are right.
Adrienne: Oh, boy am I right. You really do have to let kids run their own lives. And I really should not be giving out that advice unless I'm ready to take it myself. [Chuckles] [Sighs]
Chad: Maybe she sent an email. Oh, God. Not again.
Nick: A couple of years in prison changes anyone.
Melanie: Right. No, of course. It's just now that you're on the outside...
Nick: Am I still attracted to you? Is that what you're asking?
Melanie: N--um... n-- when everything happened, I'm the one that led you on and I take responsibility for that and I am so sorry.
Nick: Do not be sorry, Melanie, okay? I take full responsibility for everything that happened. But that was--those pills turned me into a different person. And I'm not trying to make excuses, but I need you to understand that I'm not that guy anymore. I'm determined to make a new life for myself here. And--and you should do the same. For your own peace of mind, try to leave everything that happened in the past.
Melanie: Yeah, I'll try.
Nick: But I guess that means trusting what I'm telling you. You think you could do that?
Maggie: Thank you, Adrienne. That conversation was very helpful.
Adrienne: Oh, for me as well.
Maggie: Well, I guess I'd better go meet Melanie.
Adrienne: Good luck.
Maggie: Thank you.
Adrienne: Oh, sweetie.
Maggie: Bye. Hi.
Adrienne: Oh, boy.
Adrienne: Hey, young handsome.
Sonny: [Chuckles] So I didn't mean to, uh, eavesdrop, but I heard you saying you need to start taking your own advice when it comes to staying out of your kids' lives.
Adrienne: I do.
Sonny: Let me guess. Alex got back together with that girl with the 80 tattoos.
Adrienne: Mm. 82.
Sami: What wa--what was her name? Brandy?
Adrienne: No, uh, honey, the kid I need to apologize to is you.
Adrienne: You and Will.
Marlena: I don't ever want to hear you talk like that.
Will: Okay. So I'll--I should just lie then?
Marlena: You should be proud of exactly who you are.
Will: How can I do that, though, if I keep messing up.
Marlena: Everybody messes up.
Will: Not you.
Marlena: Yeah, well there's that.
Will: [Chuckles] I understand everybody makes mistakes, but some people make more than others. Right? My mom. And as much as I hate to say it, I'm just like it; I'm her kid.
Marlena: Mm. I'm her mom. I raised her. So I really messed up, didn't I?
Will: No, of course not.
Marlena: You didn't either.
Marlena: You've been on this earth for 18 years. You're still trying to figure out who you are, where you belong, what you wanna do. And you have come so far in the last few months.
Will: Really? Have I?
Marlena: You have, honey. And you can't define yourself by your parents, who they are, what they do, what they think. You're your own man. And you are smart and funny and a good speller.
Will: Oh, stop.
Marlena: And you're self-deprecating.
Will: No, I'm honest not s-- sometimes, anyway. You know I wish I could have as much confidence in myself as you do.
Marlena: So do I.
Will: But the problem is I know what goes on in my head, and it's not okay up there. I don't think it'll ever be.
Nicole: [Hums] Thank you Eric Brady for teaching me a thing or two in the dark room many moons ago. G-rated, of course. [Chuckles] Photoshop, yay! Okay. This looks pretty good. Pretty good, if I do say so myself, huh? I mean, it won't keep EJ off track for long, but at least it will buy us some time. Now I just have to make sure the right person sees it.
Sami: Damn it. I ruined everything. If you've moved on and that's final and that's the truth, then that's something I can deal with. But it just seems like everything that's been happening, I wanna know. I wanna know the truth.
Rafe: The truth. Okay, uh... I thought I would never get past what happened. You know how you...broke apart our marriage, how I felt every time I looked at you because of that.
Rafe: I don't know.
Sami: Actions speak louder than words, don't they?
Rafe: Dinner. Once. And that's all. I'll make the reservations, and I'll be in touch.
Melanie: My grandma, uh, Maggie, she said that you were thinking about canceling your parole, because you were worried about me?
Nick: I was. I still am. And if I'd known that I was gonna have to stay here in Salem, I don't know if I would have gone through with it.
Melanie: I appreciate you saying that.
Nick: Well... I mean it.
Melanie: Okay. Well, I, um, I know the old Nick that went to prison would never voluntarily give up 18 months of his life just because I'm in, like, a fragile state.
Nick: You're not so fragile.
Melanie: No, I'm not. I just wanted to see with my own eyes, you know, if everything that I'm hearing and everything that I'm thinking, if it all matches reality.
Nick: And you're still not totally convinced it does. Are you?
Chad: Hey, have you seen Nick Fallon?
Chad: Know where he went?
Are you looking to get into it with him again?
Chad: Uh, I sure as hell hope not. Damn it, look, this is important, okay. Your coworker stalked my fiancée, okay? He almost killed her, all right? Now if you're holding out on me, if something happens to her--
I don't know where he is, okay? He was going for a walk to get some fresh air.
Chad: Have you seen Melanie Jonas?
Marlena: I know this might sound trite, but that's because it's true. If you don't love yourself, how can you expect somebody else to love you?
Will: I can't. You know, this doesn't have anything to do with me being gay.
Marlena: I know that. I was 18. I was.
Marlena: I was in college. I remember fretting about courses and majors and g-- "can I pass the Psych final if I go to the frat party?"
Will: Wow, the frat party.
Marlena: Yeah, the frat party. And will the cute guy ask me out?
Will: Hmm, did he?
Marlena: Sometimes. Sometimes not. The important thing to remember is that there will always be people with whom you don't agree. Gonna always be people with whom you don't gel. That isn't about you. That's about them.
Will: Yeah, I know. I mean, yeah, but... [Sighs] I don't know.
Marlena: May I ask you to do something for me?
Will: Of course.
Marlena: Get your phone.
Marlena: Return the phone call. Oh, you are so stubborn. If you won't do it for yourself, will you do it for me?
Adrienne: I had no idea Will was there. I was talking to your father--
Sonny: What did you say?
Adrienne: Well, you know I was concerned about you and Will dating.
Sonny: Yes, you made that very clear. What did Will hear you say?
Adrienne: That I thought you could do better.
Sonny: Than Will?
Adrienne: And apparently that's why--
Sonny: That's why he canceled the date tonight.
Adrienne: I--I know. I know, I should have kept my feelings to myself, but--
Sonny: Yes, you should have.
Adrienne: I'm sorry.
Sonny: You know, I've gotta go find him.
Melanie: Well, when everyone you trust, like Hope and Julie and Jennifer, when they all tell you one thing, it's hard to think they're all wrong, right? Not to mention the prison psychiatrists and Marlena.
Melanie: Even before I found out Maggie was my grandma, I still thought she was the most loving and trusting, wonderful woman in the entire world.
Nick: She is.
Melanie: And she wasn't sure if you were ready to be paroled. And she was your biggest fan.
Nick: And now she's yours. Just how it should be.
Melanie: But I know deep down that she believed you deserve another chance and there is no one's judgment I trust more.
Nick: What about your own?
Melanie: Well I'm standing here staring, like, my biggest fear in the eye, and I'm still okay.
Melanie: But I needed to do this. You know, so I can stop always looking over my shoulder and giving you power.
Nick: Well, I mean, it's the last thing that I want.
Melanie: I know. So... I wish you only the best.
Nick: I wish you the same.
Melanie: I have to go. I have a fitting. And to see Maggie.
Nick: [Inhales deeply] [Sigh of relief] Melanie. Melanie?
Maggie: I am so sorry to keep you waiting. It's not like Melanie to be late.
Oh, thank you. Are you sure she wanted to meet us here?
Maggie: Oh, yes, yes. She said my house is bad wedding karma.
Maggie: Don't ask. [Both chuckle] She didn't want Chad to see her dress and so her father offered his apartment. Oh the--
Melanie: Hi, sorry I'm late. I'm so sorry I'm late. I forgot my phone. Otherwise I would have--
Excuse me, but I have 15 minutes.
Melanie: Oh, my gosh. Okay, uh, I will try this on.
Maggie: Okay, do you need any help?
Melanie: No, well, if I do, I'll yell.
Your granddaughter's very radiant. She must be very happy.
Maggie: Yes. Yes, if this is truly what she wants, so am I.
Will: You know, it is very hard to say no to you.
Marlena: I've heard.
Will: And I promise I will take your advice, but with the next guys.
Will: I can't call--
Will: I can't call him back. It's too late.
Marlena: It's not too late. It is never too late.
Will: I know you say that, but--
Sonny: Will. Hey. I'm so glad I tracked you down.
Will: Oh, what's up?
Sonny: I'm so sorry to interrupt, but there has just been a huge misunderstanding, and I really need to talk to you. If that's okay?
Marlena: Oh. Of course, it's all right.
Will: Well, wait, I thought maybe w--didn't w--kind of in the middle--
Marlena: No, no, I think I hear that dog whistle. He's all yours.
Rafe: Are you looking for a rematch?
EJ: No, I think I made my point.
Rafe: Mm. Well good. I'm assuming that means that you're gonna stay the hell away from Sami.
EJ: I'm not quite sure how many times I need to tell you this, Rafe, but Samantha and I actually share two children, and I live across the hall, so it's not that easy for me to stay out of her way.
Rafe: Right, so you've said. But I guess the question is, do you want to?
EJ: No, that's not the question. The question is why do you care? Because I thought that you had washed your hands of her. I mean I don't suppose it really matters because when Nicole gives birth to your child, she's not going to let Samantha anywhere near you. Of course, that won't really matter to you, because you're gonna be far too busy playing daddy to give that a second thought, aren't you?
Nicole: All right. It's showtime, Danny.
[Knock on door]
Sami: Oh, my God, I'm totally not even ready. [Laugh cut short] Oh. Oh, my God. What? What do you want?
Nicole: Hi, Sami, it's nice to see you too. Hey, look, I've got some, uh, paperwork here for EJ, you know, divorce stuff, and he's not home.
Sami: He's not here.
Nicole: Well, I figured you two are so chummy now that maybe you could hold onto it and give it to him.
Sami: No, no thank you. I don't wanna be involved in your drama.
Nicole: Because you have enough problems of your own? I know.
Sami: Okay, so I have something I'm doing, I'm getting ready for so if you'll excuse me.
Nicole: Hot date with EJ?
Sami: Goodbye, Nicole.
Nicole: Okay, um--oh, my gosh. Oh, I'm so sorry. I feel like a beached whale, you know what that's like now.
Nicole: I mean, I'm sorry. I, um, you know what I meant.
Sami: No, stop, stop. Don't, okay? I've got it.
Nicole: Okay, thanks. Thanks so much.
Sami: Oh, geeze.
Will: So, this is about tonight or...?
Sonny: Yeah. Yeah.
Will: Okay, I'm sorry 'cause I had--some stuff came up and I needed to--
Sonny: Will, no. No, it didn't.
Will: Excuse me?
Sonny: I know--I know the reason that you--you backed out of tonight. It's because of what my mom said.
Will: Oh, no, I don't--I'm sorry, I don't know what you're talking about.
Sonny: You overheard my mom talking about you to my dad.
Will: Yeah, but it--I mean, it's not like it's something that I haven't heard several times before, so...
Sonny: Listen, man, she... she doesn't know you the way that I do. And she has no right to say those things about you. None at all.
Will: Yeah, she does. I mean, she's right. I'm not good enough for you.
Sonny: Why don't you let me be the judge of that?
Rafe: I'll look after Nicole and my baby. They're none of your concern.
EJ: Rafe, you impregnated my ex-wife. Although I suppose in all fairness to you, you were still married to Samantha at the time, weren't you? What was that thing with you and her sister though? What's the matter? You and Nicole, you were never really a couple, were you?
EJ: And you and Samantha, you were, um, what are you, exactly?
Rafe: Hmm. Ah.
Rafe: Hi. Yes. Oh, a table for two this evening any time after 6:00. Good, uh, private area if you have it. Yes. Okay. Well, thanks anyway.
EJ: Romantic evening planned then? Who's the lucky lady?
Nicole: Ah, so sorry. I guess I haven't cleaned out my purse in a while. You know what, I cannot wait to carry a diaper bag with a pacifier and, you know, fruit snacks--
Sami: You still keep a picture of Sydney in your wallet?
Nicole: Well, yes, I love her. Well, don't worry. I'm not gonna kidnap her again. Got a little peanut of my own now. There's enough love to go around.
Sami: What the hell... is this?
Maggie: I'm gonna cry. [Laughs]
Melanie: You're not gonna cry on my dress.
Melanie: I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding.
Melanie: I'm so glad you're here.
Maggie: Where else would I be? Honey, uh, you were gonna say something before.
Melanie: Right. You don't have to worry. Everything's gonna be fine. With Chad and with Nick.
Nick: Guess I'll give this to Aunt Maggie.
Melanie: Ooh. Oh, wow. Oh, my gosh, this is so beautiful.
Chad: Son of a bitch.
Chad: Where is she, huh? Where is she? You son of a bitch! Huh? Where's Melanie, huh? Where is she, you son of a bitch?
