Sami: Thank you so much for coming.
Marlena: Oh, you are so welcome. Oh, I know how tough it is to get kids off to school in the morning. And you can't find any time for yourself.
Sami: Yes. True--
Marlena: And I also wanted to talk to you about something. It's something that I'd like to have you hear from me, not anybody else.
Sami: Sounds ominous.
Marlena: Well, no. Actually, it's, uh-- it's about Brady. He's, uh--he's offered Kate a job at titan.
Sami: Yeah, I know.
Marlena: Oh! Okay. Well, um, you know, he's going through a lot right now. And, uh, I'm just sort of hoping that you can find your way to be supportive.
Sami: Mom, he hired Kate. Of all people on the planet, Kate. And I'm not allowed to say anything?
Marlena: This job is good for Brady right now. And I think that Kate can help him carry the load, so... that a girl?
Marlena: Thanks. Glad that's settled. [Laughs]
Rafe: Would you two just keep some distance? And it will be a hell of a lot more peaceful for everyone.
Nicole: Okay, fine.
Nicole: But I still need to talk to you in private? About the baby.
Nicole: Our baby?
Marlena: Whoo! So sorry. And who would that be?
Sami: Oh. [Chuckles] Mom! Don't you know? Nicole.
Rafe: I just wanted to say I think it's really nice of you, helping Caroline out like this.
Gabi: Well, actually, she's helping me out. She gave me my job back.
Rafe: Why? You have a job. Modeling, right? I mean, it's totally okay with me now.
Gabi: I know--I know it is. But it's not okay with me. I quit.
Chad: Hey! Uh--I thought you were gonna sleep in this morning.
Melanie: Hey, yeah. Good morning! I was. I just, um-- I couldn't sleep, so I just returned some emails to my-- silly thing--to my mom and dad and grandma. [Chuckles]
Chad: Are you done?
Chad: Then get your cute butt back to bed.
Melanie: Much better.
Chad: I know why you couldn't sleep. It's because of Nick, isn't it?
Nick: It's so good to see you, cuz.
Abigail: I wanted to see you before you left town with your mom.
Nick: Oh, yeah. There's, um, there's actually been a little change of plans.
Abigail: What happened? They revoked the parole?
Nick: No! No, no, no, no, no. But, um, under the terms of the parole, I have to stay here in Salem.
Will: Hey. So I got your text. You wanted to see me?
Sonny: Yeah. Uh, there's something I wanted to talk to you about.
Daniel: Are you sure about this? You really wanna give up tending bar to be the chief of staff at a major research hospital?
Kayla: Well, what can I say? I need a break. Stress was really getting to me, you know?
Daniel: Mm. Well, I can say on behalf of almost everyone here, uh, glad to have you back.
Kayla: Yeah. I'm glad to be coming back. You know, and if I have my way, I won't be the only one rejoining the ranks.
Kayla: I am hoping that Jennifer will come back too.
Jennifer: Here you go.
Jennifer: This used to really help me when I was pregnant with JJ.
Nicole: Thank you. Look, I'm sorry to be such a pain in the--a bother.
Jennifer: No! No. You're not at all. I, um, I find it so interesting how you and Daniel have become friends. I--I suppose, um, him save-- saving the baby really forged this very powerful bond between the two of you.
Nicole: [Chuckles] Uh, actually, it's a little more complicated than a friendship.
Marlena: So I share with you how concerned I am about Brady, and you respond, apropos to nothing, by calling Nicole a name? What is, uh, what is happening with you?
Sami: Mom, it's the same thing that's going to continue to happen as long as she's living in Salem at the same time that I am. I bumped into her bump.
Marlena: Oh, Nicole. And is she taunting you about being pregnant with Rafe's child?
Sami: Yes, and, mom, I am never, ever going to understand why they did what they did.
Jennifer: What do you mean when you say, um, more complicated?
Nicole: Well, it's-- it's weird, you know? My--well, my life has always been complicated. You see, EJ--he was one of the many bumps in my road. But he was really hard on me when he found out about the baby. And Daniel, he was great right from the beginning. He was protective, right? He was just this old-fashioned good guy.
Jennifer: Yeah, he is. He goes the extra mile for every single one of his patients.
Nicole: And saving this baby wasn't the first thing that he did for me. It was just the most recent thing.
Jennifer: Implying that he's going to continue doing great things.
Nicole: And that's why I will want him in my life forever.
Daniel: So, you're, uh-- you're gonna bring Jennifer back.
Kayla: Well, it's not set in stone, but I--you know, she's great at her job.
Kayla: And I think it'll be really good for her, distract her from her grief. What do you think about it?
Melanie: Yes. Yeah. Uh, I was thinking about Nick. But that's over now.
Chad: Is it?
Melanie: Mm-hmm. He's going far east with his mom.
Chad: [Sighs] And we'll have our life here.
Melanie: Oh, no, no.
Melanie: Don't go, don't go, don't go, don't go--
Chad: Oh, I have to. I'm sorry. I promised Sonny that I would pick up a deposit for him at the coffee shop. But we'll continue this later?
Melanie: Well, I do like having something to look forward to.
Chad: Mmm, me too.
Melanie: All right, go.
Marlena: Sami, I know exactly how you feel.
Sami: Are you really on my side?
Marlena: Of course I'm on your side. Look, Nicole--thank you-- will continue to taunt you. You can't change that. And she's gonna have Rafe's baby. You can't change that. The only thing you can change is your response to it. And that, darling girl, is the only thing that's gonna make you happy.
Rafe: You quit? But you wanted to model more than anything. What could possibly have made you quit?
Gabi: Why can't I take this job? I mean, what's it to you, Chad?
Chad: Well, here's what it comes down to. You love modeling, right?
Gabi: Yeah, you know I do.
Chad: Okay, well, remember that time when you tried to take away what I love most? Melanie? Now it's my turn to take away something you love.
Gabi: I-I got--people need coffee, excuse me.
Rafe: Did Sami say something to you? Huh?
Gabi: Look, Rafe, it's all for the best, okay?
Rafe: Gabi. Not so sure about that. If you think occasional irregularity is no big deal,
Abigail: Does Melanie know that you're staying in Salem? Because even though she didn't try to stop you from getting parole, Nick, I'm not sure that she's comfortable with the idea of you being back in town.
Nick: I think you're right. I think she will be bothered at first. But I'm hoping, after a while, she'll see for herself that I've turned myself around.
Abigail: Well, you sure seem like the Nick I grew up with.
Nick: I am that guy. And I swear, I--I'm not gonna give Melanie a reason to regret doing what she did for me.
Will: Okay, what's up? Why do you--what do you wanna talk to me about?
Sonny: I was just gonna ask you if, uh, what you were--
Will: Wha--wha--wha-- I'm sorry. Look, I-I mean, I'm glad you did text me because I thought we, you know--we needed to clear the air.
Sonny: You think it needs to be cleared?
Sonny: Well, I just thought maybe we could just kinda-- just move on and not even talk about it, you know?
Will: Oh, okay, yeah. That too. That works. It's just that, you know, I-- I-I know you think I'm a jerk. And I know, you know, you-- you think I can't handle being gay, or--
Sonny: No, no, no. I didn't say that. I didn't say that.
Will: Well, yeah. I mean, you didn't say those exact words, but that's kind of, I think, the conclusion that you--that you drew.
Sonny: No, no, I-I didn't mean anything.
Will: I-I--I'm not-- I'm sorry. I'm not looking for an apology or anything. I don't want you to apologize. I'm just saying that I think you made, you know, a few good points. Um, couple good points. And, uh, I am working on it. So, yeah. Maybe I could use a little encouragement or something. [Chuckles]
Sonny: Well, um--
Chad: Will. Hey, man.
Sonny: What's up?
Chad: Haven't talked to you in, like, forever.
Will: Yeah, yeah.
Chad: Uh, yeah. Um, I think you and I have a lot to talk about.
Jennifer: I think I'm going to give you some advice with the tea and sympathy. Daniel is a, uh, great, great doctor, but I think you also need to be honest with yourself and realize that you are very vulnerable right now. And I think it would be a really big mistake to--to make all of this into more than it really is. If you excuse me, I-I'm running late.
Nicole: I have a really great idea. I don't have really anything to do, so maybe I could take some of your pictures of Jack, and I can make a scrapbook for--for the kids or maybe for your bedside--
Jennifer: No, you don't really--you don't need to bother doing that at all. I--I'm just fine, thank you. I'm really running late.
Nicole: Bye. [Imitating Jennifer] "Make it something that it is," blah, blah, blah. Whatev--what are you talking about? I know what it is, and I know where it's going. [Sighs] Now I just need to make Daniel see it as clearly as I do. [Chuckles]
Maggie: You don't fool me. I see it in your eyes. You still love Jennifer, don't you?
Nicole: You know the one thing that I hate about Maggie Horton, is that, you know what, most of the time she's usually right. Oh. This isn't gonna be easy. Hmm. We have a mission, mm-hmm. And that...is to make sure that Jennifer always remembers her dearly departed husband, whether she wants to or not.
Kayla: Well, you look like you don't agree with me about Jennifer.
Daniel: No, I agree. She did a great job when she was here. Yeah, it's just, uh...
Kayla: Is there something you're not telling me?
Daniel: No, no, Jen doesn't need my help. No.
Maggie: Now how do you know that if you don't ask her?
Daniel: I don't have to ask because Jen and I, we're just-- we're over. I just was thinking that maybe she shouldn't come back before she's ready.
Kayla: Well, don't you think that should be Jennifer's decision?
Daniel: Yeah, you know, I-I guess so, yeah.
Kayla: Well, listen, I'm gonna see her this morning.
Kayla: And, I guess, we'll see what she says.
Daniel: Great, well, you know, hope all goes well with that.
Sami: [Sighs] And then he said I will never change. And that was the nicest part of the conversation with Lucas.
Marlena: Oh, dear. You had a fight?
Sami: Mom, it was more than an fight. It was like a knock-down, drag-out at the O.K. Corral. He said he will never, ever forgive me.
Marlena: Oh, I'm so sorry.
Sami: Well, he says that every time. [Chuckles] He also said that the only reason I helped EJ is because I always want what I can't have.
Marlena: Mm. You suppose that's true?
Sami: No! I mean, I know no one believes me, but this time, I really am gonna change. I'm gonna put my kids first and my job second. And I am not gonna let a man, no matter who he is, distract me.
Will: Yeah, so sorry you had to read in the papers that I was gay. I-I-I mean, I'm not sorry you know. I'm just sorry because I, you know, I should've told you that myself.
Chad: Right, well, you would have, given the chance. And, uh, you know, I think I should be the one apologizing here. I mean, the way I went after you when you were arrested for killing my father, it was just--
Will: That's okay. Jeez, my own grandfather arrested me. I-I don't blame you for believing that.
Chad: No, no, I-- I shouldn't have thought that you killed him. Probably shouldn't have thought he was killed in the first place--
Will: [Laughing] Yeah. I know, that man gets a lot of sequels.
Chad: Yeah. Yeah, he does. So, uh, so we're good, right?
Will: Yeah, I think so. I mean, it seems that way.
Chad: It's all good, man. All right.
Chad: No. None of that, no.
Sonny: Ah, the bizarre rituals of male friendships.
Will: Well, you can't say "I like you," or anything queer like that, I guess. Oh, by the way, I can say "queer," but you're not allowed to say "queer."
Chad: Okay, you know what? You may be gay, but he's still a jerk, right?
Sonny: Well, he was born that way.
Sonny: Dude, I heard that, uh, your cousin Nick got out of prison. He's on parole.
Chad: Right. Guy kills somebody, terrorizes a woman, kidnaps her, but, hey-- I mean, it's no hard feelings, right?
Will: Well, my family says that he's really kinda pulled himself together.
Chad: That's fine, you know? Whatever. He can go move back east and pull himself together out there.
Sonny: Well, actually, they ruled that he has to stay here in Salem.
Sonny: I'm sorry--I-- I heard it on the news.
Chad: Son of a-- you know what? I'm gonna have to do a--yeah. Do that deposit for me at the-- get outta here. Go. I got something to do.
[Door slams shut]
Nicole: Oh! [Sighs] Ooh. Hmm. Well. Not sentimental, huh?
Daddy, daddy! Look what I made!
Daniel: Oh, my gosh! Dude, that is so awesome. You know, we'll make a surgeon outta you yet.
Yay! I'll be a surgeon, just like you!
Daniel: [Laughing] Yeah! I love your energy. That's awesome. Here. Oh, my gosh. Do you know what's a good thing?
Nicole: Uh, yeah. That you didn't marry the practically perfect in every way Jennifer Horton?
Daniel: That you didn't give up on me.
Nicole: You had your shot, jenny. Now it's my turn.
Daniel: Hey. Well, I thought you'd be, um-- listen, by the way, thank you for letting Nicole stay with you. She's a little old to be going to a home for wayward girls.
Jennifer: Yeah, uh, it's-- it's fine. She's a good diversion right now.
Daniel: Yeah, well, if she gets to be too much, you just tell me, and I'll--I'll work out something.
Jennifer: No, I'm-- so far, so good.
Jennifer: She does have some really strong feelings about--
Kayla: Daniel! What are you doing here? You're not spilling the beans, are you?
Jennifer: What? What beans are you talking about?
[Knocks on door]
Rafe: Okay. You know, it's one thing for you to go after me. But to go after my little sister...
Rafe: To take away the most important thing in her life--
Sami: I don't know what you're talking about.
Rafe: No? Admit it. You fired her to get back at me, didn't you?
Sonny: I know I got interrupted, but what I was trying to talk to you about...
Will: Oh, wow. You're a very popular guy.
Sonny: All right. Just give me just one second. Just one second. Hey, Brian. Yeah, yeah, that all sounds good. Well, I was ac--actually, I'm hoping to have some plans tonight. Yeah, yeah, so just wish me luck.
Sonny: Okay, so finally, what I was been--what I've been trying to ask you is... I've got concert tickets.
Nick: Do we know each other?
Chad: No. But I think it's time that the two of us have a little talk.
Abigail: Hey! Sorry I'm late. I had to see someone.
Gabi: That's okay. I just got here myself.
Gabi: So what's up?
Abigail: Well--Melanie! Hi!
Gabi: You know--
Abigail: Come sit with us!
Gabi: I should probably go, though, I'm--
Abigail: Wait, wait, wait! Why? You--you just got here. You said so yourself.
Melanie: [Clears throat] Sorry, guys. Have you seen Chad?
Abigail: I haven't. Gabi?
Melanie: Maybe he's still at the bank.
Abigail: Do you have time for coffee?
Melanie: Yeah! Apparently, I do. [Clears throat]
Gabi: So how ya been, Mel?
Melanie: Fine. Great.
Gabi: I saw in the paper that Nick got out.
Melanie: Did he say when he and his mom were going back east?
Abigail: You don't know?
Melanie: Know what?
Abigail: He's not going. He's staying in Salem.
Sami: You should probably slow down there, turbo.
Rafe: Oh, why? So you can concoct your story?
Sami: [Laughs] No. Because the more you talk, the bigger an ass you're making out of yourself.
Rafe: All right, look. I threw you in jail. So you wanna pay me back? That's fine, I get it, 'cause that's who you are. But leave my sister out of it.
Sami: Did Gabi tell you that I fired her?
Rafe: Uh, no, she didn't have to because I know she would never leave that job!
Sami: Oh, my god, this is so great! It's so out of character. I mean, you, jumping to conclusions, hurling accusations. It's awesome. It's a total role reversal.
Rafe: It's not funny.
Sami: It's funny to me, just a little bit. The truth is she quit. I begged her not to, but she said she didn't have a choice.
Sami: I mean, you should ask her what really happened because it was totally her decision, not mine.
Sami: All right. I get that you don't believe anything I say, but I can't believe you think I would do something so crappy just to get back at you.
Rafe: Oh, yeah. Well, that wouldn't be the first time, now would it? Is that really him?
Will: Anyway, so Chad just blew up basically and took off.
Marlena: Sounds like nobody handled it very well-- oh, hi, Caroline!
Caroline: Hi, Marlena. Hi, will!
Will: Hello! Hi! How are you doing?
Caroline: I'm good, good. Well, you talked about Chad DiMera blowing up, taking off?
Will: Yes, yes. Uh, he's just, I guess, upset about some stuff.
Caroline: Ah! What kind of stuff?
Will: [Laughs] That's nothing that you need to worry about, really.
Caroline: Well, are you so sure about that?
Marlena: Yeah, I'm sure too. Yeah, by the way, Caroline, thank you so much for helping Sami with the kids this week.
Caroline: Oh, it's all right. Well, let me know if you need anything.
Marlena and will: Thank you.
Marlena: You know, most boards have a parolee stay in their same jurisdiction. Somebody should have said that to Melanie.
Will: I know. I agree. I totally agree. And we both talked to Nick. I--well, you know, I-I think, for one, that he has reformed.
Marlena: Man, I hope you're right.
Will: Me too. And I understand why Chad is worried about Melanie, whatever. But, you know, in my opinion, I think it'd be best for Nick if everybody just kinda backed off, you know? Back off. Give the man a little space to find his way.
Chad: I'm Chad DiMera, and I know who you are.
Nick: And I get a visit from a DiMera because...
Chad: I came here to make something very clear to you. If you know what's good for you, you'll stay the hell away from Melanie Jonas.
Melanie: Nick's--he's staying in Salem?
Abigail: He doesn't have a choice, Melanie. The parole board is helping him find a job, and he's gonna start over. Are you okay with that?
Melanie: Yeah. Yeah. Um, will you, uh--if Chad comes here, will you tell him that I am back at his house? I'll just meet him there. It was so good to see you, guys. Well, bye.
Gabi: You could see that it really bothered her that Nick is staying in Salem.
Abigail: She was just surprised, that's all.
Gabi: Yeah. Well, I gotta get back to work. Okay, I'll see you.
Abigail: Yeah. [Sighs] What's Chad gonna do when he finds out?
Nicole: I knew I was gonna have a boy.
Dr. Knapp: Well, it looks like you were right.
Dr. Knapp: Tell you what. Go ahead and get dressed. The nurse is gonna be in in a minute with your vitamins, okay?
Nicole: Okay, thank you. [Sighs] Well, buddy, EJ is out of the picture. Don't worry, because mommy's gonna make sure you have the perfect daddy.
Daniel: I didn't say anything. I just bumped into her.
Jennifer: What--what are you two talking about?
Kayla: I was just telling Daniel this morning that I wanted to talk to you and offer you a job back at the hospital. Director of communications.
Jennifer: I, uh-- I-I don't know what to say, really.
Daniel: You know, you don't have to say anything until you decide what is right for you. I'll see you at the hospital.
Jennifer: Well, he obviously doesn't think that's a very good idea.
Kayla: Well, I think he's just concerned that maybe it's too soon for you after losing Jack. I mean, it's not because the two of you used to date or anything like that, if that's what you're thinking.
Jennifer: I wonder.
Kayla: Well, just because you're exes doesn't mean that you're not friends, does it?
Jennifer: I don't know. I-I really don't know what we are right now.
Sami: Yes, yes. Yes, yes, yes, I slept with EJ. I hurt you. I really, really hurt you. I can't undo it. And I will always regret it. But as bad as I am, I would not hurt Gabi just to get back at you. Obviously, you don't believe me. I hope you are asking her yourself. Oh! What'd she say? "Sami didn't fire me. I quit." Good. So I think we're done here.
Rafe: No, we're not done. Hey! Did you know that honey nut cheerios
Will: Yes? What is it?
Marlena: I was wondering if your concern for Nick really is having something to do with you.
Will: Oh, this is why I love having a shrink for a grandmother.
Marlena: Oh, my gosh. I just thought I heard somebody call me a shrink.
Marlena: But I did hear you say that you think people should back off of Nick. And I wonder if you really wanna say you'd like it if people would back off of you. And I will, if that's what you meant. It would not hurt my feelings--
Will: No, no. No! No. Not you, no.
Will: I'm just confused. But not about being gay.
Marlena: Okay, about what?
Will: I think about what I do now. You know, some people, they come out, right? And then they go off, and they meet people, and they have-- you know? And I-it seems like coming out was their only problem.
Marlena: But it's not.
Will: No, not for me. I don't know, I just don't-- I don't really wanna do the whole dating scene.
Marlena: Will... is that because you found someone with whom you'd like to spend all your time?
Will: Uh, yes, it is. Yeah. And I-I can't help thinking about him.
Abigail: So Melanie was trying to cover it, but I think it really threw her that Nick is staying in Salem.
Sonny: Well, Chad didn't try covering it up.
Sonny: Yeah, he just blew up and, like, stormed out of here.
Abigail: [Sighs] I was afraid of that.
Sonny: I don't know what he's gonna do.
Chad: I really hope you understand what I just said.
Nick: You know, if you give me a little time, maybe I could prove I've changed.
Chad: It's one thing I've learned, pal. It's people don't change. Done here.
Rafe: Well, you were right. I ended up making a complete ass out of myself, didn't I?
Sami: You were looking out for your kid sister.
Sami: And I get how mad you are at me.
Rafe: Pretty mad.
Sami: I would never hurt Gabi. I like her, and I know you'd always look out for my kids, 'cause no matter what happens with us... [Sighs] We're all still family.
Melanie: Huh! Oh. [Clears throat]
Chad: Didn't mean to scare you--
Melanie: It's fine. This is your place. You can walk into your place. I'm just wired because you look--you look very serious. Are you okay?
Chad: Um, everything will be okay, if you promise me one thing.
Melanie: Okay. What?
Chad: [Sighs] Marry me.
Melanie: [Gasps] What?
Your ride is waiting. As soon as you sign the papers, you can start your parole.
Marlena: Tell me something. Does this happen to be the man with whom you messed up?
Will: Yes, one and the same.
Marlena: Hmm. 'Cause you never quite told me how you messed up.
Will: [Chuckles] Uh, you know, that's because it's not really important. [Chuckles] And, um, also because it's too late, really. The--the--the, you know, guy moved on to someone who's, um, you know, handsome. He's confident. He's secure. He's basically everything that I am not.
Marlena: Can you hear how self-critical you are?
Marlena: Mm-hmm. You're behaving as though this man is, well, handsome as a male model and has the social conscience of Harvey milk. And you're what? You're nothing? Come on. Honey, you've gotta go for it.
Will: I know, but it's hard-- it's a little harder than it sounds.
Marlena: You did the hard part. You came out to your family and to your friends. Now you just get to enjoy it.
Will: Grandma, come on.
Marlena: I think you've gotta step up. Let this young man know how you feel about him. I think you'll be glad you did.
Abigail: So are you doing anything tonight?
Sonny: I don't know. [Chuckles] I have these, uh-- these tickets to a concert. And there's this guy I wanna ask, but, yeah. But I don't know if he wants to go. So, uh, actually, if you want, you can have 'em 'cause I'm not gonna use them anymore.
Abigail: I'm not sure. Um, I--
Sonny: I'm--I'm never sure if I should ask, like, how you're doing or, uh, just kinda stay off the subject--
Abigail: No, I know. [Sighs] I know you care, Sonny. It's just, uh... [Sighs] So--it's hard to talk. Sorry.
Jennifer: Well, I would like to think that Daniel still thinks of me as a friend.
Kayla: But, uh, what?
Jennifer: I don't know. He just--he seems really-- really distant lately, I mean, since Jack died. I mean, you saw the way he just took off outta here. And he did that to me yesterday too when I saw him. I think that he is still really angry at me.
Anne: So I know exactly what's going to happen. She's gonna come waltzing back in here, like she didn't get fired for a really good reason and start lording it over the rest of us, with that phony smile of hers.
I like Jennifer.
Anne: Oh, she's snowed ya like she snows everyone else. Let me tell you this: If she wasn't a Horton, she wouldn't be a nurse's aide in this hospital, let alone director of communications.
Daniel: You know, this hospital is nothing but lucky to have Jennifer Horton back, and we--and by we, I mean you-- will welcome her with gratitude and respect. She is one of the best, nicest people I have ever met, and you will treat her as such. Got it?
Sami: Um, I didn't mean anything, uh, by the family thing, okay? That's just what it means to me, you know? The kids--that's all I meant by saying family.
Rafe: No, no, it's...
Sami: All right. Anyway, look, I just--I get it. I know you hate me, okay--
Rafe: I don't hate you. I don't. I could never hate you.
