Jessica: Have you come to a decision?
Man: Yes, we have. Nick Fallon has been granted parole. Oh, Maggie.
Chad: What, are you kidding me? How could you let that maniac go free?
Daniel: How--how could this happen?
Gabi: You know what? I feel bad for Melanie.
Will: Oh, yeah, me too. But you know, I am pulling for Nick to get out. Although I do understand she's a little freaked over what happened with the stalker guy. I know he scared you too.
Gabi: Yeah, he did.
Will: The police said he's working with an accomplice, right? Did they ever get any more info on that?
Gabi: No. No, and, um, now that Andrew's dead, they said that the trail's cold. Yeah, I gotta get back to work.
Sami: [Clears throat] Hey.
Will: Hey. Ooh, how is it?
Sami: It's--it's all right. How about you? How are you?
Will: I'm great. What's this? What's all this?
Sami: Oh, you know, work. I am getting things back under control at Countess "W" now that I am done with all their stuff.
Will: With all the stuff, yeah.
Sami: Right. So it's good to get stuff back to normal.
Will: Well, as normal as they can get, I guess.
Sami: [Laughs] I am back in business, Will. It's gonna be great.
Gabi: Uh, I'll be right back to get your order.
Sami: Hey, um, Gabi. Look, I'm really sorry if Countess W's work been so slow that you had to find another job, but don't worry. 'Cause we're back on track now, and we're gonna be using you a lot at Countess "W".
Gabi: Oh, I'm--I'm sorry. Did--didn't you hear? I quit.
Sami: What? What are you talking about?
Brady: Kate, thank you for coming.
Kate: Well, I cancelled an appointment to be here, so I hope it's good.
Brady: It is. I don't know if you heard, but uh, I'm your new boss.
Brady: I've been reinstated as the CEO of Titan.
Kate: But I thought that you were committed to rebuilding Basic Black with John.
Brady: Mm-hmm. And the wheels are turning, and everything's fine. My dad's name has been cleared. It's good.
Kate: So glad to hear it.
Brady: And I felt there was a more urgent need here at Titan anyway with our mentally unstable CEO most likely spending the rest of his life in some miserable prison somewhere. And also given the fact that you will now be running mad world without Madison.
Kate: It was a huge loss for us, Brady.
Brady: Yeah, it was. Thank you. But, I felt that your position should be my first order of business.
Kate: [Sighs] You're gonna fire me, aren't you?
Daniel: Sir, I respectfully ask you to reconsider your decision. I'm Melanie's father. And I will be happy to testify--
Jessica: You don't even know my Nick.
Chad: You know what? This is crazy, okay? Do you have any idea how much courage it took for Melanie to come down here and face him? How could you just ignore everything she just said?
Melanie: I didn't ask them to deny Nick's parole.
Chad: I'm sorry, what?
Melanie: I told them if they felt Nick was ready to be released, that I would support them.
Sami: [Exhales] Look, Gabi, if there wasn't enough work for you at Countess "W", don't worry about it. It's definitely gonna change.
Gabi: Um, Sami, that's not the reason I quit.
Sami: Then tell me. Tell me what's going on with you. 'Cause you and Chad, you were great together. And I know you loved modeling.
Melanie: Aren't you guys, like, a package deal?
Chad: Um, I think it's time that we focus on what's really important here. You know, figure out what we're doing with the rest of our lives, you know? Don't you feel the same way?
Gabi: Right, yes, absolutely.
Gabi: Um... Chad and I, um, we decided that we wanted to do other things.
Sami: Chad's quit too? Why does anybody tell me this stuff?
Will: Well, I guess when you don't check on the office for a month or two, you might miss some things.
Sami: Look, I'm sorry, okay, about what's happened. But your campaign with Chad was fantastic. The numbers speak for themselves. So I really--I really am asking you to reconsider.
Sami: And look, I understand if maybe you're afraid to go back to modeling because of what happened with the stalker.
Gabi: Yeah. Yeah, that's part of it.
Sami: Well, I can assure you that I will not happen again. I have the security team in place. You just have to come to me. We'll make sure. So think about it, okay?
Gabi: Okay, I will. Thank you. I'm gonna go get you a menu.
Sami: Will, talk to me. What is going on with her?
Man: Did you come here today for the purpose of objecting to Nick Fallon's parole? Yes or no?
Melanie: Yes. I started writing a letter. [Clears throat] But then I realized I needed to come here and tell you in person how strongly I felt about this. When Nick was first sentenced, as you are aware, I asked the judge for leniency. I thought I had put everything behind me. I thought I was at peace with everything that had happened. But then something happened to me recently which made me believe that I was not okay. But--
Melanie: When I got here today, I saw Nick's entire family just standing out there waiting. And I realized, they don't get to come in here and tell you that Nick skipped third grade, or that Nick was an eagle scout, or how much they love him. So why is it all up to me?
Man: You were his victim.
Melanie: But that wasn't a one-way street. I was terrible when I came here. I was selfish. I used people. I used Nick. So in a lot of ways, I got exactly what I deserved. I keep hearing, um, from Nick's family, from the court psychiatrist that he's changed-- that the guy I first met, who was goofy and funny and sometimes very heroic wasn't gone forever. [Chuckles] So if he's ready to be a productive member of society, then who am I to stand in his way? Because I'm the first person to tell you that everybody deserves a second chance. So to answer your question, sir, no. No, I do not believe that Nick should be denied parole.
Daniel: You supported Nick's release?
Chad: Look, I don't get this. I thought you were writing the parole and telling them you didn't support it.
Melanie: I changed my mind.
Daniel: Because you felt pressure.
Melanie: No. It was my decision-- to leave it all in the parole board's hand. You know how torn I've been about this whole thing. I just wanted it to be over.
Jessica: You made the right decision. I promise you you won't regret it.
Daniel: Yeah, well, I hope to hell you're right.
Jessica: [Sighs] Maggie, Nick's coming home with me. May I see my son?
Man: Of course.
Maggie: Oh, honey.
Brady: I have no intention of firing you. As a matter of fact, I'm gonna promote you.
Brady: Because I think you're irreplaceable. And as much as we've clashed in the past--it's true. I am very grateful to you for relaying Madison's last words to me that she loved me. Because that-- that has given me a lot of peace. And I thank you for that.
Sonny: Hey, "T".
Tad: I'm on my way to a game.
Sonny: Yeah, I know. I was actually, uh-- I was hoping that I would run into you.
Tad: Why, so you can jump me again?
Sonny: No, I wanted to tell you that I'm sorry. I shouldn't have gone after you the way I did. And I was just kinda hoping that you'd accept my apology.
Will: So...are you worried about Gabi, or are you worried about your bottom line?
Sami: [Sighs] Both. But of course I care about Gabi, and I can see that you're worried about her too.
Will: Well, she is a little freaked out from the whole, you know, stalker thing, you know. And who wouldn't be?
Sami: Yeah, of course. I wish there something I could do to help her.
Sami: What do you mean why? She was employee. And she's your friend. And she's Rafe's sister. You know, I think she's really lucky to have you in her life as a friend, and-- hey, have you thanked Rafe for getting those charges against you dropped?
Will: No, but I will. Yeah, that's-- I owe him one from that.
Sami: Well, I am very glad that you and he are still friends. And I'm glad that you have Gabi. You know, she could really use your help. You could really help her get through everything that's going on right now with her.
Will: No, actually, I can't do that.
Sami: Why not?
Kate: Well, I have to say I am very curious to hear more about this promotion.
Brady: I'm sure you are. We'll discuss the details later. But right now, in short, you will remain CEO of Mad World. But you're also going to have a great role in the general operations at Titan, okay?
Brady: How does it sound?
Kate: [Laughs] I could hug you right now.
Brady: Go for it.
Kate: I am gonna hug you right now. Thank you.
Brady: You're very welcome. You're welcome.
Victor: I take it that Brady has given you the good news.
Kate: You approved this?
Victor: You wouldn't be here if I hadn't. I just got a message from Maggie. It seems that Nick Fallon's been granted parole.
Brady: Excuse me. I gotta find Melanie.
Maggie: Honey. I know you've agonized about this for days. Are you sure you're okay with this outcome?
Melanie: Well, I better be, right? I'm kidding. Honestly, I came here to tell 'em I wasn't ready for them to set Nick free. But then I saw Nick's mom talking to you.
Maggie: [Gasps] I didn't know you were here.
Melanie: It's okay. It was just for a second. But I saw you, and I knew what I had to do.
Daniel: Hey, you ready?
Chad: Yeah, let's, uh-- let's get out of here.
Maggie: Um, I'm gonna wait here for Jessica. I have a few calls to make.
Melanie: Love you.
Maggie: I love you too, so very much. Mmm. Thank you.
Chad: Damn, I'm sorry. I can't find my ticket stub. I'll catch up with you guys.
Chad: I'm really glad I ran into you. Because I have something to say. You tell your son to stay the hell away from Melanie. Because if he comes anywhere near her, he'll have to answer to me.
Sonny: What do you--what do you want from me, "T"? You remember how this whole thing started? You came into my place, and you started wailing on me.
Tad: And what, are you afraid this is gonna happen again? Is that what this is?
Sonny: No, I'm trying to settle this between us.
Tad: What, man-to-man? [Chuckles] Good luck with that.
Sonny: Like two rational human beings.
Tad: [Drums fingers] How can we do that? I'm completely normal, and you're a total freak. And don't you ever lay your hands on me again, or else.
Sami: Will, what are you talking about? Why can't you be there for Gabi?
Will: Well, I just-- you know, given our history, I don't wanna give her the wrong idea.
Sami: I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure she understands and still wants to be your friend, even though you're not interested in her. Did something happen? Did you two have a fight?
Will: Okay, can we drop? Can we--I'm sorry. Can we drop it?
Gabi: Look, everything is gonna be okay.
Melanie: You're a good friend.
Gabi: I wish I could stay, but I gotta get back to work.
Melanie: Okay. We'll talk soon.
Chad: I'll walk you out. How many times do I have to tell you to stay away from Melanie?
Gabi: Okay, look, she texted me and told me to come over here. I mean, what was I supposed to do?
Chad: You lie. Isn't that one of your biggest talents?
Gabi: Look, I'm trying. I am trying, Chad, okay? I'm trying to stay away. And actually, I was coming over here to run something by you.
Melanie: Look, I know you wanted me to oppose Nick's parole. I hope you're not mad at me.
Daniel: Uh-- I did tell you to make your own decision. But I am curious... what changed your mind?
Maggie: [Exhales] Your mom went to call your father and Marie to tell them the good news.
Nick: That's great. I know you must be feeling pretty conflicted about this. But I wanna thank you.
Maggie: For what?
Nick: You're the reason I'm a free man.
Maggie: How's that?
Nick: I think we both know that Melanie testified in my favor for one reason-- because she loves you.
Melanie: God, I don't know why everybody's acting like I'm an angel. I used Nick. I knew he had money and used him.
Daniel: You need to stop right there, because you can't blame yourself for what Nick did to you.
Melanie: Right, Nick went off the deep end. I get that. But you know why, right? Because he was shot, protecting me. That's why he got addicted to pain pills. So, yeah, he killed Trent. But he did it because he was protecting me.
Daniel: Yeah, and then he made you think that you did it. He terrorized you. You know you almost got killed.
Melanie: Fine, I get it. He's not innocent. I'm not saying he's innocent. But he's paid his dues. All right, he got help. He did everything he's supposed to do. And I haven't paid for anything that I've done to him. You didn't see Maggie the day he was sentenced. She was devastated. She thought of him as like a son.
Daniel: So then you let Nick goes free because--
Melanie: Of Maggie, yeah. Because of Maggie.
Kate: Well, Victor.
Victor: That's "sir" to you. Kidding.
Kate: [Laughs] So what, is this all a joke? 'Cause I really don't understand why you would me to have a place of power in your company.
Victor: Well, once upon a time, I hired you to run my company. Business was booming. It wasn't until I violated my cardinal rule that things went awry. I entangled foreign alliances--
Victor: Fell in love with you. But now that I'm happily married to Maggie, it's no longer a concern.
Kate: No, of course not.
Victor: You'll do what you do. I'll do what I do. It'll be just like old times.
Kate: Oh, yes. The merry, gay old '90s. Just a child, a grandchild, a couple of spouses between us since then, right?
Victor: I wonder how Stefano's going to react when he finds out you're playing such a prominent role in his archrival's company.
Kate: Well, he wanted nothing to do with me, so why should he care?
Victor: But you do.
Kate: [Sighs] Yes. Okay, I can't help but wonder if I'm ever gonna see him again, yes.
Will: Uh, I'm sorry. I don't-- I don't wanna fight with you too.
Sami: What do you mean too?
Will: Oh, um, dad is still a little testy with me for, you know, helping you and EJ leave town, so--
Sami: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to put you in the middle of that.
Will: No, you didn't. You don't need to apologize.
Sami: Um, I could talk to him.
Will: No, I think that might make it worse.
Sami: Well, normally you'd be right. But in this instance, he should be look at it like you did him this huge favor, you know-- getting me out of his life.
Will: Yeah, I'm sorry that things have been so, you know, crappy. And I'm sorry that I've been so disrespectful and nasty to you-- for so long.
Sami: I deserved it.
Will: No, you didn't. You know, that night, um, of the explosion when I-- when I saw you hanging from the catwalk, I've never been so scared in my life. I'm just sorry that that's-- you know, that it took something like that to, um-- to make me realize how much that I do need you.
Sami: Well, thank you for saying that.
Will: And it's not--you know, I'm not saying things are perfect. And they probably won't be.
Will: But you know, it's nice to be talking again.
Sami: It's more than nice.
Will: [Laughs] Whew.
Gabi: Okay, look, you wouldn't have to do anything. All right, and I would totally stay out of your way and Melanie's, of course. And--and if I'm modeling, then I wouldn't have to work at the pub. And you wouldn't have to worry about running into me there. So would it be okay if I accepted Sami's offer?
Chad: I mean, I don't know. I mean, let me see. Uh, no freaking way.
Melanie: The fact that she had to choose between Nick and me, that wasn't fair. And that wasn't right. And I'm trying to be like Maggie. I wanna be generous, and I wanna be kind. And we both know that's not really gonna happen. But I'm gonna try my best to do that, okay?
Daniel: Shh. Shh. Know what? Your grandmother is very proud of you. And I understand why you did what you did. And I am very proud of you too.
Nick: I know that part of you would feel better if I were still in prison. And I completely understand that.
Maggie: Oh, Nick.
Nick: And I want you to know how thankful I am that you're here.
Maggie: Do you know how you can thank me?
Nick: By not wasting my second chance?
Maggie: [Laughs] Uh, once you're back home with your mom, you're gonna have a lot to prove-- to the world and to yourself.
Nick: I know. [Sighs] Do you really think Melanie's gonna be okay with this?
Maggie: [Crying] Yeah. I love you for asking that. But don't worry about her. She's gonna have plenty of support. All you need to worry about is you.
Nick: You're right. I won't let you down.
Sonny: Do you treat every gay person you know this way?
Tad: You're the only one, or at least you were until you turned Will.
Sonny: Honestly, you really think Will hasn't been gay since the day he was born?
Tad: We used to cruise and look for chicks together, and rate them on a scale of 1 to 12.
Tad: I've been best friends with this kid since we were kids. I would've known if he played for the other team.
Sonny: Well, I guess you're not as smart as you think you are.
Tad: No, you hit on him. You confused the hell out of him, just like you tried to do with me.
Sonny: Are you kidding me? I never hit on you, "T".
Tad: Hello. You tried to make me go to a baseball game with you.
Sonny: Yeah, because I had an extra ticket. I just thought I was doing you a favor. I'm not interested in you. I never was.
Tad: But you're interested in Will. I heard you telling your other friend all about it.
Sonny: Okay, yeah. I'm interested in Will. And I'd love to be more than friends with him. But, you know what? He doesn't feel the same way.
Tad: Why not? You're gay. He's gay. Sounds like a match made in hell to me.
Sonny: Are you serious? Huh, did you just on any girl that comes your way? Actually, don't answer that question.
Tad: Come on, I'm not like that.
Sonny: Yeah, well, neither am I. You know, I think it'd be cool if will felt the same way. But he doesn't. You know, maybe you've been there, "T". Sometimes it just doesn't work out.
Kate: Will. Hey, honey.
Will: Oh, hi.
Kate: I haven't seen you in days.
Will: Hi, I know.
Kate: Oh, my gosh. How are you?
Will: I'm great. Thank you. How are you?
Will: You know, that, uh, Stefano is alive?
Kate: Yes, I understand this too.
Will: Oh, but you haven't spoken to him.
Kate: Not a word. I don't even know where he is.
Will: Oh, I'm sorry.
Kate: No, it's okay. That's enough, enough about me. Actually, do you know there is this adorable intern at work that I wanna set you up with. His name is Scott. And he is hot. And he is smart. And he dimples to die for. I mean, unless you're already seeing someone.
Will: Um, well, I was. I mean, there was--no. There was somebody.
Will: Yeah. But he moved on, not that I blame him though. I think I kinda got some issues.
Kate: Are you kidding me? You are such a catch. This guy is an absolute fool if he doesn't see that.
Gabi: Okay, and why? Why can't I take this job? I mean, what's it to you, Chad?
Chad: Well, here's what it comes down to. You love modeling, right?
Gabi: Yeah, you know I do.
Chad: Okay, well, remember that time when you tried to take away what I love most--Melanie? Now it's my turn to take away something you love.
Gabi: That's not fair.
Chad: No, fair would be you going to jail for what you did to Mel.
Gabi: How long are you gonna hold this over me?
Chad: I am a DiMera, Gabi. Don't you ever forget that. I'm going to hold this over you forever.
Brady: Where's Melanie? She must be freaking out right now.
Maggie: Melanie is okay. She actually testified on Nick's behalf.
Brady: Why the hell would she do that? Did you talk her into this, Maggie?
Maggie: No, I did not! Now, Nick is my nephew, and I love him. But Melanie's well-being is my first concern.
Brady: Then why didn't you stop her from making such a huge mistake?
Victor: So where's Nick going to be staying when he's released?
Maggie: Oh, he told me that he's, uh, planning on leaving town with his mother.
Victor: You sound relieved.
Maggie: [Sighs] I think that this the best possible outcome for everyone. But Daniel and Chad would disagree.
Victor: Well, I bet they would.
Maggie: Brady's upset too.
Victor: Ah, Brady's very fond of Melanie-- we all are. She'll get through this. She's strong, like her grandmother. Probably why I like her so well. [Chuckles]
[Knock at door]
Brady: Well, Daniel.
Daniel: Hi. Hey. Maggie, uh, I just wanted to apologize for getting so upset when the verdict came down.
Maggie: I understand. Listen, I wanna make you a promise that I will everything in my power to make sure that Nick stays on track.
Daniel: Oh, I know you will. And I talked to Mel about why she changed her mind, and I have to say I can't really argue with her reasons.
Maggie: Did she tell you she did it for me? Oh. I hope she understands that she doesn't owe me anything.
Daniel: She does understand. And she doesn't think of it as a debt paid, just a-- a tribute to an amazing woman we all love and admire.
Melanie: This is the best I've felt in a long time. Hey. [Exhales] Everything is gonna be okay.
Chad: [Chuckles] That's supposed to be my line.
Melanie: I know. Maggie was just as worried as I am about Nick going free. And if it weren't for me, she would have been behind him 100%.
Chad: Well, she loves you.
Melanie: And I love her too. Which is why I have to do for Nick what she did for me, and that's give him a second chance.
Chad: Well, lucky for us, it'll be in a city far, far away. Thank God he decided to go off with his mom.
Melanie: Yes. They can start their life, and we can start ours.
Melanie: Mm, hold on. Sorry. Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry. I know. Sorry, sorry. Hello?
Brady: I heard about Nick. Are you okay?
Melanie: I'm fine.
Brady: Listen, Melanie, if that guy comes anywhere near you--
Melanie: I promise, I have never felt safer.
Brady: [Sighs] Okay. Well, if there's anything that I can do--
Melanie: Brady, I will call you. Thank you. Um, I'm sleepy right now. But we will talk soon, okay?
Brady: Yeah. Take care of yourself, okay?
Melanie: You too.
Chad: So uh, Brady's worried about you, huh?
Melanie: [Laughs] I'm just lucky to have so many people that care about me. Most importantly you.
Gabi: Hi. I hope that your server took good care of you.
Sami: Oh, yeah, of course she did.
Gabi: Sorry I had to leave during your meal. I just had to go help Melanie with something.
Sami: Well, it's always nice to help a friend. Wasn't exactly my priority when I was your age.
Gabi: Yeah. Um-- hey, I thought about your offer. And, um, you know, I really love modeling, but I'm sorry. I can't.
Sami: Wait, uh, Gabi, you-- [Sighs] Great, number 48 on my to-do list: Find new models.
Kate: To-do number 49: Hire a new CEO.
Tad: I got a game to get to.
Sonny: There's just one more thing that you should know. Your friendship meant a lot to Will.
Tad: Are you gonna tell me that he's into me now?
Sonny: No, no, no. All right, I just know that he hated the way that things have fallen out. And I think maybe you should put some thought into why it got messed up in the first place. You know, just try to be just a little more accepting of how people wanna live their lives. And stop worrying so much what people think about you. All right, then maybe you'll understand that Will is still the same guy that he's always been. [Sighs] [Sighs]
Sami: Let me guess who you think the new CEO should be, you.
Kate: Sadly, no. Because I think it's all over for Countess "W". Now that you no longer have Lucas cleaning up after you, I think you're going to drive my company right into the ground.
Sami: It's not yours anymore.
Kate: I think it was worth the sacrifice, especially if Lucas has finally escaped your evil clutches once and for all.
Sami: Well, at least I didn't have to sleep my way to the top, like you did with creepy Ian. Though I'm sure you're very happy that he is in the loony bin. Of course, well, it puts you out of a job.
Kate: On the contrary, I'm staying on at Mad World as CEO. Brady and Victor promoted me.
Sami: Are you kidding?
Kate: No. No, I'm not. I'm also not kidding that this is war, Sami. And my guns are a lot bigger than yours. So prepare yourself, because I am taking you down.
Chad: I want you to rest easy tonight.
Melanie: I will-- tonight and tomorrow night and the next night and the next night. Every night, as long as you stay here with me.
Chad: I'm not going anywhere.
Melanie: I can lie here forever.
Chad: Well, that might get boring.
Melanie: Boring sounds perfect.
Chad: Yes, it sure does.
Daniel: All right, I better get to work. I'm pulling an overnight shift.
Victor: I'll walk you out.
Daniel: Thank you. All right. Mwah. I'll talk to you soon.
Maggie: Okay. Get some sleep.
Daniel: [Chuckles] Yeah. All right.
Brady: Maggie. I just talked to Melanie. Um, she says she's okay.
Maggie: Good. You don't sound convinced.
Brady: [Exhales] Look, it's hard for me to give you advice, because I'm used to getting it from you. But I have to tell you, I think Melanie is disillusioning herself.
Maggie: Why would you say that, Brady?
Brady: Because I spent the last months watching Madison get manipulated by a psychopath, okay? And he her wrapped around his little finger. And she rationalized every single thing that he did.
Maggie: You don't know Nick, Brady. He is nothing like Ian.
Brady: No offense, Maggie, but it seems that you didn't really know Nick either. Look, I just out of rehab. I'm all about second chances. But I just lost my fiancÚ, and I'm having a hard time with this. And it's bringing up a lot of bad memories for me.
Maggie: Of Arianna?
Brady: If you remember, she was murdered by a man who was out on parole, Maggie. I'm sorry. I don't have a lot of faith in the system. And I think people go into prison, and it does not change them for the better, Maggie. I think this Nick guy could be more dangerous than ever.
