Daniel: [Groans] Now Chad's not answering his phone either.
Maggie: Where do you think Melanie would go?
Daniel: Who knows?
Maggie: Well, maybe she just wanted to get as far away from this decision as possible.
Man: We're back on the record in the matter of prisoner number 0-1-6-7-3, Nicholas Fallon, application for parole. The full board has voted and have come to a unanimous decision.
Guard: Hey, you can't just bust in here.
Melanie: Yes, I can.
Man: Who is this?
Melanie: Um, I'm Melanie Jonas. And I need to make a statement.
Lucas: I don't need an excuse to sniff around Sami.
EJ: Wow. There's an interesting image.
Lucas: Well, no, I'm done with her. She's all yours now. She's your problem, not mine.
EJ: Actually, I don't really think of her as a problem, Lucas.
Lucas: Oh, yeah, that's right, you're her savior. I forgot about that. I mean, you are for now, but... I don't know, I wouldn't get too comfortable if I were you.
EJ: [Chuckles] I see. You're going to run off, lick your wounds, and come back to fight another day, are you?
Lucas: Mm-mm. No, I'm not coming back at all, actually. But you won't last either. I mean, haven't you learned yet? She always wants what she can't have. So maybe you guys would last a week, or a month. But by Thanksgiving, that's it. She'll be done with you. And then it's on to the next challenge.
EJ: Have you--have you ever thought that maybe...moving on might be a problem that's sort of particular to you?
Lucas: No, no, no. No, I haven't. No. Just ask Rafe. Or Brandon or Austin or... just about anybody. The list is long. I've been around a long time. I've seen them come and go, and come again.
EJ: I see. And here you are, again.
Lucas: Yeah, yeah. Well, I'm an idiot. But no more than you. I mean, I know I was the first man that she fell in love with and everything, but--
EJ: Were you?
Lucas: Yeah. Yeah, I was. And I can guarantee you, you won't be the last.
Sami: No way! Hey, buddy, give it back!
Man: Let go!
Sami: No! My car keys are in there!
Rafe: Drop it!
Rafe: Could you get off me?
Sami: Oh, sorry. I'm sorry. Rafe, be careful!
Nicole: Phew! Ay, yi, yi. Needlepoints, hummels, and me. [Chuckles] Oh, not quite what I expected, but, um... we'll figure it out, kiddo, huh?
[Door opens, shuts]
Nicole: Abigail, hi.
Abigail: What are you doing here?
Nicole: No one bothered to tell you? I just moved in.
Maggie: Well, wherever Melanie is, I'm glad she's not here. She was so tormented about what she was going to say to the parole board.
Daniel: She never finished that letter. I don't know why. I don't know why, she started it.
Hope: Well, maybe she decided it's best if she just lets them decide the case based on the evidence.
Daniel: No, her testimony is part of the evidence. Look, I know-- I know whose side you're on. And I know how you spun things in there. I do.
Hope: No, it's all right. I'm on the side of justice. That's all.
Daniel: Look, I know this is hard on all of you. It's hard on me. But right now all I care about is my daughter, and keeping her safe from a man who terrorized her, a man who killed another man, who let my young girl believe that she was a murderer. Now come on, a little common sense, just a little bit.
Jessica: I understand what you're saying, Dr. Jonas. Believe me, I do. And I would never try to justify my son's actions. But he's genuinely remorseful, and he's paid for his crimes. He deserves a future too.
Melanie: Um, thank you for allowing me to be here.
Man: Thank you for coming. Victims' testimony plays a crucial role in our deliberations. I take it you'd like to testify before this board regarding Mr. Fallon's fitness for parole.
Melanie: Yeah. Yes, I would.
Abigail: What do you mean, you've moved in? You're not--
Nicole: Living here. Yep. I am.
Hope: I'm going to go check on Jessica.
Daniel: I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset her. Your whole family--
Maggie: You and Melanie are my family. But you have to understand Jessica. She's not just worried about Nick's fate. She also feels responsible for what happened.
Daniel: Why? She wasn't even here.
Maggie: Exactly. See, she was dealing with mental issues of her own during his childhood. So she regrets all the time that she wasn't there.
Daniel: What Nick did isn't Jessica's fault. It's nobody's fault but his. And even if you, his beloved Aunt, don't feel confident that he's been rehabilitated, there is no way in hell that parole board should get him back onto the streets and into my daughter's life.
Man: I apologize for Mr. Fallon's presence. If we'd known you were planning to testi--
Melanie: It's fine. It's okay. I-I didn't even know I was coming myself.
Man: If you could please remove the prisoner from the room--
Melanie: Actually, um... I would like for him to stay.
Man: That's not typical protocol. But, um, if you're sure that's what you want.
Melanie: Yes. I want Nick to hear every word I have to say.
EJ: You know, I think that somebody's suffering a nasty visit from the green-eyed monster.
Lucas: No, actually, I'm finally free of the green-eyed monster, and it feels great. I'm not suffering at all anymore. You know what that feels like? No, I don't think you do.
EJ: Oh, I'm sure you'll tell me.
Lucas: Well, you've been down this road before, haven't you? All of a sudden you're--you're driving down Sami's one-way street, and you realize you're going the wrong way. But--boom!--It's too late, she sucked you in.
EJ: Lucas, nobody "sucks me in."
Lucas: Does Nicole ring a bell? I mean, you actually think that you're different from the rest of us, but you're just as dumb as we are. If not, you may be even a little dumber. At least I have nostalgia on my side, as an excuse. But you, let's-- let's run down your quick history with Sami, shall we? First, you forced her to sleep with you because you told her it was going to save my life. Wow, that's a great one. And then you slept together because she thought you lost a child. Then, when half of Salem was blown up, you two were on the run from the cops. Good times. Do you really think you're the right man for Sami? When you and I both know that there's only one man she's made happy for more than two seconds. And he's not even in this room.
Sami: You got him!
Rafe: Yeah, with a little help.
Cop: I'm gonna take this guy down to the station now.
Rafe: Yeah, good idea. Get rid of this dirtball.
Sami: [Clears throat]
Rafe: You okay?
Sami: Um, yeah. I'm fine.
Rafe: No, you're not. Sit down.
Sami: It's fine, it's fine. It's just my wrist.
Rafe: No, if that's the same wrist that you-- I hurt before? Let me see this thing.
Sami: I just hurt myself a little bit dragging this desk over to grab the gun, to save your life. So sorry to trouble you.
Rafe: All right, let me see. Found you some ointment in the bathroom.
Sami: Took you long enough.
Rafe: Trust me, it'll feel better in a minute.
Rafe: All right. Come on, come on. Let's go, let's go.
Sami: Where are we going? Ow! Are we gonna go to the police station?
Rafe: No, we're not going to the police station, we're going to the hospital. I want to get that looked at.
Sami: Oh, come on, it's not that big a deal.
Rafe: Sami, with you, everything's a big deal. Come on.
Sami: Excuse me. I can't walk.
Jessica: Shouldn't they be done by now? I-I didn't think there was anybody left to testify.
Hope: They're probably still deliberating.
Jessica: Yeah. I'm so relieved that Melanie didn't finish that letter. I-I know that she has a right to weigh in. But I think the board would be much less favorably disposed if they heard what she had to say.
Man: It should be noted that we are once again on the record. Ms. Jonas, you state that you are here today to speak in the matter of Nick Fallon's parole?
Man: And, for the record, could you please state the nature of your relationship with Mr. Fallon?
Melanie: I thought you were my friend. Someone-- someone who believed in me, who trusted me--
Nick: I am your friend.
Melanie: Nick, I confided in you! I moved in with you, I celebrated my birthday with you, only to find out that you were terrorizing me all along? The notes and the phone call, that was you this whole time? Uh, I am-- I was one of his victims.
Abigail: No, I didn't get your message, because I left my phone at home. What note? Oh. I thought you and Nicole hated each other. Hey, there's plenty of room in the house now, right? We'll hardly have to see her. No, I'm okay, Mom. I'll just see you when you get home. Love you too.
Nicole: Did you, um, talk to your mom?
Nicole: I'm, uh, surprised that she didn't talk to you first.
Abigail: Me too.
Nicole: Look, I'm not gonna steal the Horton family recipe book or anything, okay? I'm just-- with EJ threatening me, uh, your sweet mom thought I would be safer here.
Abigail: Why is EJ threatening you?
Nicole: Because he thinks he's the father of my baby. And I thought he was for a long time, too, but the DNA test result proved that he absolutely is not. Oh, I'm sorry. I'm horrifying you with my wanton ways. Of course I am, you're a Horton. I'm sorry.
Abigail: If EJ thinks that that baby is his, you honestly don't think that he would try to hurt you?
Nicole: Not intentionally. Obviously, your mom would not put you in any danger.
Nicole: Just with him harassing me, uh-- I have a high-risk pregnancy, and I have got to protect my child.
Abigail: Well, what about the baby's father? You can't stay with him?
Nicole: You're a reporter's daughter, right?
Abigail: Yes, I am.
Nicole: It's a really long story. And maybe I'll share it with you sometime, but-- I'm really late for my doctor's appointment, I'm-- I'm sorry.
Abigail: Can't wait to hear it.
Nicole: Thank you for your hospitality. Daniel was right when he said there's no place safer than Tom and Alice Horton's cozy little home sweet home.
Abigail: Wait. This was Daniel's idea? Wow, I-- I didn't know you two were friends.
Nicole: He's my-- he's a really great doctor... and friend. And he promised that he would do whatever he had to, to protect my baby from EJ. Bye.
EJ: If you're talking about Rafe, he's not interested in Samantha. He's still stuck on Carrie, who's 3,000 miles away.
Lucas: 3,000 miles away, exactly.
EJ: Then you have to remember the fact that, uh... he's about to have a child with Nicole. What?
Lucas: Eh, it's just I-- you know, just forgot about Nicole, that's all.
Lucas: So Rafe's gonna have a baby with the woman that Sami hates most in this world, outside of her own sister, Carrie, who's not in the picture anymore. That must be driving Sami nuts.
EJ: She hasn't mentioned anything to me.
Lucas: Well, she mentioned plenty to me. That's funny.
EJ: Thank you for your advice, Lucas.
Lucas: Yeah, no problem. Good talk. Glad we had this time. Allie, honey? You ready to go? [Knocks on wall] Allie?
Cameron: All right. You're gonna want to keep this on 24/7 for the first couple days.
Sami: Are you serious? What's the big deal? It's not broken. Which is exactly what I told Rafe.
Cameron: Yeah, but you don't want to mess around with ligament injuries. I mean, you don't keep it immobilized, you could wind up in a cast.
Rafe: Wait--I'm sorry. Did you--did you hear that? You gotta keep it in that, or it's gonna be in a cast?
Cameron: I'll be, uh-- I'll be right back with your discharge papers.
Sami: Thank you.
Rafe: Thank you, Dr. Davis.
Rafe: He's good. He's really on top of his game. Well, what did I tell you? I told you I didn't drag you down here just to ruin your day. All right?
Both: By the way--
Sami: I want to...thank you for helping me get my purse back and catching that guy. Thank you.
Rafe: Glad I was there.
Sami: Me too.
Nicole: Well, well, well. What do we have here?
[Cell phone beeping]
Daniel: Wait. Chad's here? But it says it was sent ten minutes ago.
Hope: Reception's pretty spotty in here.
Daniel: Maybe-- maybe Melanie's with him, but where in the hell are they?
Hope: Probably stuck in security. I'll go see if I can wave them through. Come on.
Daniel: [Sighs] Okay.
Melanie: Um, I first met Nick in Europe. He tracked me down for my brother. And he brought me back to Salem. I suppose I should thank him for that. The second I met him, he literally took a bullet for me. Thanks for that too. When we were in Salem, he was a great friend. Or I thought he was. Okay, Nick? If you love me... like you say that you do... then you have to tell me the truth now. Did you-- did you kill my father?
Nick: No, Melanie. You did.
Melanie: Oh, my God.
Nick: On our way to Vegas, getting married. Melanie, it can be the way that we planned it.
Melanie: Is that the "hope" that you were talking about? That I would still want to marry you after I found out you killed my father?
Nick: Don't you see? I did this, I did everything, for you, for our future, for us.
Melanie: But I don't want you to let me go. I promise.
Nick: I wish I could believe that.
Melanie: You can, Nick. You can. You can--you can believe me.
Nick: I want to trust you, Melanie. I really do. And maybe one day I can. But until then... you're just going to have to stay here. Melanie, what are you doing?
Melanie: Let me go! Please!
Nick: No! I'm not letting you go, Melanie!
Man: Ms. Jonas. Ms. Jonas? Are you all right?
Melanie: I'm sorry, um... I need a minute.
Abigail: Hi. It's me.
Cameron: Hey, I was just about to call you and see how you're doing.
Abigail: Sorry that I canceled our date. I was, uh, having a bad day, but it has nothing to do with you.
Cameron: I'm just about to finish my shift. What are you up to?
Abigail: Absolutely nothing. My mom's out, and our new houseguest is at an appointment.
Abigail: It's a really long story, according to her. I haven't quite heard the whole thing yet.
Cameron: Would you maybe like some company?
Abigail: Yeah. I'd love some.
Rafe: Yeah, well, some dirtbag grabbed her purse, and luckily I happened to be there.
Nicole: Aw. And, of course, you rescued her and brought her here. That's our Rafe, isn't it, Sami? Always looking to help someone out?
Sami: Yeah, Nicole, look how he helped you.
Nicole: [Laughs] Okay, all right. Look, I have an O.B. appointment. Our baby is kicking up a storm. So you take care of that wrist. Talk to you later.
Rafe: Thank you, Nicole.
Nicole: [Laughs] You're welcome. Bye.
Sami: Gee, Rafe, shouldn't you go with her? I'm fine here. You don't need to stay with me.
Rafe: You know Nicole and I aren't together.
Sami: Right, but it's still your baby.
Rafe: It's her body.
Sami: But Nicole would jump at the chance to be with you, now that Carrie is gone.
Rafe: Look, she's not interested. I'm not interested. It's not gonna happen.
Sami: [Sighs] I wonder how you two fell into bed together.
Rafe: Oh, really? You, of all people, have to ask? Wait, why am I standing here discussing my love life with you?
Sami: Or lack thereof. I'm sorry. I was just kidding. It's just, I remember when I was pregnant with Sydney. You were there for me, you know. You were so caring and supportive. I know it was your job, but...
Rafe: But what? Hmm? What are you getting at?
Sami: EJ's suspicions. I mean, I told him there's no way you would lie about something like that. But, Rafe, is Nicole's baby really yours?
Jessica: I just--I just wish there were some way to make the parole board understand that the man whose fate they're deciding in there today is not the same man that killed Trent Robbins or terrorized your granddaughter.
Maggie: I wish the same. Unfortunately, he did do those things, Jessica.
Jessica: But he was under the influence of those prescription drugs. Isn't addiction an illness? How many times have you said that in an AA meeting? And how many people that you sponsor have you told, "yesterday was history"?
Maggie: More than I can count.
Jessica: So many of us have been given a second chance. Why not Nick? I just--I love him so much, Maggie.
Maggie: Oh, I do too. With all my heart.
Abigail: [Sighs] Hi.
Abigail: I'm sorry that I canceled our date. I have just, um, had a lot going on lately.
Cameron: And...you want to talk about it?
Abigail: Do you want to hear about it?
Abigail: Okay, well, uh... Melanie's ex-stalker, who is also my cousin, is up for parole right now. Chad thinks that Melanie can't handle him being out, after everything that she's been through. But my family thinks that he's ready. Chad wants me to take Melanie's side.
Cameron: Well, what do you want?
Abigail: I just want to stay out of it. I mean, I feel bad for Melanie, I feel bad for Nick, but I-- I can't go there right now.
Cameron: Um, I'm sure he understands.
Abigail: I guess, yeah. And then...
Abigail: Well, my Aunt Kayla and Uncle Steve are getting divorced.
Cameron: Yeah, but you knew that.
Abigail: Yeah, but...I don't know, when we were at my dad's funeral, they were holding hands and leaning on each other. And it's stupid, but I let myself believe that something good was gonna come from my dad's death, that they were gonna get back together.
Cameron: I'm sorry.
Abigail: Me too.
Cameron: I wish there was something I could do.
Abigail: There is.
EJ: Have you seen the piece that looks like this?
Johnny: Right here.
EJ: Ah! There we go. Always three steps ahead of me.
Johnny: I'm good at building things.
EJ: You are very good at building things.
Johnny: I don't think I got that from my mommy.
EJ: Your mother is very good at a lot of other things.
Johnny: I like it when you guys are friends again.
EJ: I like it too.
Lucas: So Rafe's gonna have a baby with the woman that Sami hates most in this world, outside of her own sister, Carrie, who's not in the picture anymore. That must be driving Sami nuts.
Johnny: Daddy, Daddy.
EJ: Oh, that looks fantastic.
Johnny: It's my secret fighting machine.
EJ: Well, maybe you can use that to scare the monsters out of the bedroom and turn the light off, eh?
Johnny: That's the plan. What are you thinking about, Daddy?
EJ: Hmm? Um...I was just thinking about a little plan of my own.
Rafe: Would I lie to you?
Sami: I didn't used to think so, but it's not your M.O. to answer a question with a question. That's more me.
Rafe: And what's it to you?
Sami: There you go again. It's nothing to me, but it certainly means a lot to EJ.
Rafe: You don't think that I'm being caring and concerned enough for Nicole? You know, she wanted her space, so I'm giving her her space.
Rafe: Why? Why what? Last time she was pregnant, she suffered a horrific loss. There are no guarantees in this. You know that. She's taking the lead, and I'm supporting her. It's from the sidelines.
Sami: Yeah, you're not really a sidelines kind of guy, even with someone like Nicole.
Rafe: You know what? I really don't want to talk about this, especially with you. Okay? So drop it.
Sami: Fine. Sorry. We're done here, right? Thank you for bringing me here. I'm gonna grab a cab.
Rafe: Okay. Don't forget you have to give your st-- statement. [Scoffs] [Mutters] Nicole? What are you doing here? Thought you had an appointment.
Nicole: It was canceled. And it's a good thing I wasn't having my blood pressure checked. You were about to blow it all.
Man: If Ms. Jonas is unable to complete her testimony, we'll have to strike it from the record. Could you please remove Mr. Fallon to give us an opportunity to confer?
Melanie: Sorry, um... I just needed a minute. I'm ready to give my statement now.
Man: Are you sure you're up to this?
Chad: [Clears throat]
Maggie: Chad! Do you know where Melanie is?
Chad: I do. She's in there. She's talking to the parole board about Nick.
EJ: And no peanut-buttery fingers on the games console, please.
Sami: Aw. [Door shuts] I love peanut butter.
EJ: Hello, Samantha. How was your meeting?
EJ: What did you do?
Sami: Some jerk tried to steal my purse.
EJ: Did what?
Sami: Yep. But I held on to it, you know, so I could keep my car keys, and, of course, Johnny's action figures, which I found in there. Uh, it was really more "Rafe to the rescue."
EJ: Oh, Rafe was there, was he?
Sami: Yeah. Lucky me.
EJ: Samantha... you were lucky.
Sami: Well, then I got lucky again, 'cause I saw Nicole at the hospital.
EJ: She was at the hospital? Here, let me.
Sami: Oh, thank you. Yeah, she was. But she was, um, just getting some tests done or something. Uh, I think she's taken Rafe to the dark side.
EJ: Why do you say that?
Sami: Well, I mean, with all the baby lies she's told, you'd think I'd be the first to suspect.
EJ: Suspect what?
Sami: Thank you. That, um, you know, what you've been saying all along is true. That you're the father of her child. But then Rafe said that it was his. And I just don't think he would lie about something like that. And now, I don't know. Now I'm not so sure.
EJ: Samantha, I wanted to talk to you about that. I've been thinking about it, and...I think I made a terrible mistake.
Rafe: Nicole. Hey. Your secret is safe with me, all right?
Nicole: I'm not worried about you. I'm worried about her.
Nicole: Really? Sami. Now she's down to, what, two men now? That's you and EJ. And one of you got me pregnant. And I'm sure she's highly motivated to find out which one. I was freaked out about EJ finding out, but I should be worried about her.
Rafe: Hospital security has greatly improved since Sami's DNA-switching days, all right?
Nicole: I don't really think you need some major skills here. All she has to do is bat her baby blues at you.
Rafe: Oh, is that right? You think I'm gonna crack, huh?
Nicole: Yeah. You have before.
Rafe: Huh. Let me tell you something. I've broken drug lords, murderers. I am not going to have a problem with Sami Brady, all right?
Nicole: Mm-hmm, okay.
Rafe: I'm not gonna betray you.
Nicole: Question is, will you betray yourself for the woman you love?
Man: Thank you for your testimony. I have just one question for you. Did you come here today for the purpose of objecting to Nick Fallon's parole? Yes or no?
Maggie: How could we not know that Melanie was in there?
Hope: Because there's another door.
Jessica: She's been in there a long time.
Hope: We don't know what she's saying.
Jessica: I think we do.
[Cell phone rings]
Hope: Excuse me. It's the station. I have to take this. Hello? Uh, no, don't let him go. I'll be right there. Thank you. I have to go.
Maggie: I--okay. We understand.
Jessica: Thank you for your support.
Maggie: And I'll text you if there's any word.
Jessica: It means a lot to Nick. There's only one reason your granddaughter would come down here in person. I think we know what she's saying. [Sighs] This changes everything for Nick. I'm--I'm gonna go call my mom and let her know.
Maggie: Give Marie my love, please.
Jessica: I will, Maggie.
Chad: Wish we could be in there with her.
Daniel: Yeah, me too. You know, it takes a lot of courage to do what she's doing, to face Nick down.
Daniel: She said she was afraid if she testified against him that she'd make herself a victim. I mean, she's anything but a victim right now.
Chad: Right, well, I think Gabi and I finally got her to realize that this was the right thing to do.
Daniel: Yeah, well, let's just hope that parole board agrees with us, because- [Door opens] Hey, honey, honey. Honey, come here. You all right?
Maggie: Are you all right?
Daniel: You okay?
Melanie: I'm fine.
Melanie: Yeah, yeah. I just did what I had to do.
Abigail: Wait, uh...
Abigail: I can't, I can't do this.
Cameron: What's wrong?
Abigail: I just, um...
Cameron: I-I thought you-- I thought you wanted--
Abigail: I mean, can you just leave? I need you to go.
Rafe: What are you even talking about? Betray myself for the woman I love? What is--okay, what does that even mean?
Nicole: Please, please. Did you not double-, triple-, quadruple-promise that Sami would be out of your life forever?
Rafe: Yeah, I did. And she is.
Nicole: Well, seeing you two a little earlier, you could have fooled me. Oh, God, I really wonder what her secret is.
Nicole: But you know what? I really don't want to know. Never mind.
Rafe: Listen, just don't--
Nicole: Look at you. You're already defending her.
Rafe: Well, I think that I'm defending myself.
Nicole: [Laughs] Okay. Think what you want. But the eyes don't lie. You two look like you haven't even been apart. Rafe, if you're gonna be my baby-daddy...
Nicole: I have to say, I mean, I would rather gargle glass than share custody with Sami again. But I'm just really worried. I'm really worried that you're gonna disrespect yourself. Please do not let Sami stomp all over your heart again, please.
Rafe: Would you stop it? Look at you. Listen to me. I promise you I will never, ever, ever fall for Sami Brady again.
Sami: So what made you change your mind? I mean, you were the one who was so sure that that baby was yours.
EJ: Um, you did, actually. I mean, you explained to me that you knew Rafe a lot better than I do, and you said he would never lie. Samantha, I think back to what I was going through at that time. My sister had just died, I felt like there was nobody left in my family. I just think I desperately wanted it to be mine, you know?
Sami: Of course you did.
EJ: Anywho, paternity tests, Dr. Jonas tells me, that they never lie.
EJ: But seriously...why would Dr. Jonas put his career on the line for Nicole? Why would Rafe put his future on the line for Nicole? It just doesn't make sense. I mean, they must be telling the truth.
Sami: Yeah. [Clears throat] Well, anyway, my wrist is starting to throb a little.
EJ: Can I get you anything?
Sami: I'm good. I think I'm--I'm just gonna lie down.
Chad: Look, um... I'm really proud of you, okay? I know it took a lot. But hopefully you just made sure that Nick Fallon stays behind bars for another 18 months.
Maggie: Melanie, this is my niece Jessica. Nick's mother.
Man: Ms. Jonas?
Jessica: Is there a decision?
Man: Yes, we have made a decision. Nick Fallon has been granted parole.
Jessica: Oh! Oh, Maggie. Oh!
