Melanie: [Exhales] [Sighs] Oh, my God. Nick.

Nick: Hi.

Melanie: Nick, you scared me. No, Nick! No, please, Nick.

Nick: me.

Melanie: Aah!

Daniel: Hey, uh, Maggie.

Maggie: Oh, Daniel, hi.

Daniel: Hi. I tried to call you. Did you--

Maggie: Oh, is everything okay? Melanie?

Daniel: Yeah, the best I know, she's clear on what has to happen with this whole Nick mess.

Maggie: Good.

Daniel: But I need to ask you a favor.

Maggie: Well, wait a minute. You said on your message yesterday about some friend of yours who needs a place to stay. I can--I can help. You know that.

Daniel: Yeah, I know, but, um, this favor might be above and beyond the call of duty.

Nicole: "This is to notify you of the upcoming parole board hearing for prisoner inmate number blah blah blah... Nicholas Fallon." Ugh. Like I care. Jerk. She's back already?

Abe: You know, uh... did being away from here help?

Jennifer: Uh, yes...and no.

Abe: Yeah. I understand.

Jennifer: Yeah, you do most of all, Abe. Oh, it was so hard. I started packing up some of Jack's things. I mean, not all of them.

Abe: You did that all by yourself?

Jennifer: I couldn't ask Abigail to help. Not with that. She's been so sweet and caring and-- Abe, all of this just seems impossible. I mean, Lexie and Jack.

Nicole: I know, bug, I know. She's a widowed woman, and she's grieving. But if we do this, and it gets back to Daniel in some organic way, it's kinda seamless, right?

Jennifer: I just can't believe how much has happened just since we worked on your campaign to be mayor.

Nicole: And it's about time you both got an apology for how ugly that got.

Abigail: Chad.

Chad: Can I come in?

Abigail: Yeah, sure.

Chad: Um... listen, Melanie's sleeping, so I just wanted to come here and ask you in person to take sides.

Abigail: What?

Chad: I need you to choose between your friend Melanie and your family.

Nick: I thought we were done.

Hope: Nick, the parole board hearing on your case is today. I came as soon as they let me in here to ask you again to please reconsider backing out. Actually, we're both here to do that.

Nick: Both? Mom?

[Knock on door]

Brady: Melanie?

Melanie: Oh, my gosh.

[Knock on door]

Brady: What is with-- hey, hey, hey. Shh. It's okay.

Abigail: I had no idea that Nick was up for parole already. Neither does my mom.

Chad: Well, you've been through a lot, so I'm not surprised.

Abigail: So what are you talking about with this "taking sides"?

Chad: Well... [Clears throat] Melanie does not need to be around Nick all the time and be reminded of him 24/7 of what he put her through.

Abigail: Okay. I don't understand what this has to do with me.

Chad: The hearing is today, and she's just backing off. And now a letter from her, the victim, to the parole board would carry a lot of weight.

Abigail: And?

Chad: And I need you to talk to her and convince her to write the letter. Fast.

Brady: You want to talk to me about what happened in here?

Melanie: Um, I just had-- I had a bad dream, and I was upset.

Brady: Upset-- you were screaming, Melanie.

Melanie: Look, you're still dealing with losing Madison. You don't need to waste your time with my problems.

Brady: Okay, you are never a waste of my time, number one. Number two, this is serious because you don't even know if Nick is going to be paroled, and yet, the mere thought of it has you having nightmares and screaming.

Melanie: It's not just that. It's what happens if Nick doesn't get paroled.

Nicole: I am so sorry to interrupt your conversation, but this has been on my mind for a really long time. And, Jennifer, I hope you were able to clear your head on your trip.

Jennifer: I'm--I'm all right. Yeah. Thank you again for the flowers.

Nicole: It was the least I could do. Would you mind if I had a moment alone with Abe?

Jennifer: Uh, no. No, of course not.

Nicole: Would you mind?

Kayla: What is that about?

Jennifer: I'm not sure.

Abe: You want to apologize?

Nicole: Yes.

Abe: For?

Nicole: Abe, I worked against you for EJ on his campaign. I was--I was blinded by so many things, and I-- I played dirty.

Abe: Well, politics is seldom clean.

Nicole: Well, it was worse than usual.

Abe: No argument there.

Nicole: You are supposed to be mayor, and you're not. And my stupid need for EJ to win was part of the reason why. And I am-- I am truly, truly sorry for that.

Daniel: Here, here, come. Sit, sit.

Maggie: Sounds serious.

Daniel: Well, I--it's-- it kind of is. 'Cause I think she's afraid to keep living alone, and I gotta do right by her. I do.

Maggie:'s Nicole. You want her to move in with Victor and me.

Daniel: Yeah. I told you it was a doozy. If it's too much to ask--

Maggie: No, no, no, no. No, I'll do anything for you, Daniel. Yes.

Daniel: Yeah? Thank you.

Melanie: Chad wants me to write a letter to the parole board.

Brady: A victim's letter. Yeah, it's done all the time.

Melanie: If he doesn't get out now, he's stuck in prison for another year and a half.

Brady: So what? The guy put you through hell, right?

Melanie: Come on, Brady, you know I'm conflicted about this.

Brady: I understand that you are, but--

Melanie: What if something happens to him in jail? 18 months is a long time to be in prison, and what if something happens to him because of me? What am I supposed to do? What would you do?

Abigail: This is so not black and white, Chad. Nick is my family, but we were also friends. Really good friends.

Chad: And then he changed. And now your relationship with Melanie is important to you.

Abigail: I can't tell you how much I do not want to get in the middle of this.

Chad: You're already in the middle of this, Abigail.

Abigail: Why are you pushing this? I love Melanie, okay? I really do. But I am not getting in the middle of this one. I'm not taking sides.

Jessica: Oh. Listen, your grandmother and I wrote letters to the parole board for you. I've got 'em right here.

Nick: Mom...

Jessica: Here, take them. It might do some good. You never know.

Nick: Mom, it's okay. I know that you and grandma are on my side.

Jessica: Of course we are. We just don't know what you're doing, Nick.

Nick: I know.

Jessica: Well, Hope said you have a really good chance of getting out of here if the parole board lets you. Your record has been spotless in here. But she said you might not even want to try? Nick... please, won't you just get out of here and come home, where you belong? I love to eat. I love hanging out with my friends.

Daniel: Oh, okay, look, look, it's not gonna be forever, and I'm gonna figure something out for Nicole. But for the immediate future, having her come stay with you will solve a lot of issues.

Maggie: Okay. Consider it handled.

Daniel: All right, now, Victor... he is gonna have a cow and have very strong arguments for saying no.

Maggie: Mmm, well, I think I can handle my husband. I mean, once I tell him this is what I want, then it'll-- it'll be handled...okay? Now, don't you worry about anything, all right? It's gonna work out. Especially...for Nicole.

Daniel: Thank you. Thanks, Mom.

Maggie: [Giggles]

Nicole: I know that, uh-- that sorry doesn't cut it. Right? Too little, too late?

Abe: Nicole--

Nicole: And maybe this is just me being selfish so that I will sleep better at night... but I-- hey, my apology is sincere. And...for Brandon's sake, please, just-- can we not let this get in our way? Really? You're-- you're okay with this?

Abe: You know, what I am is, um...changed. My whole life is different than when I was running for mayor. I don't have Lexie anymore. I don't have the job. And, you know, dwelling... dwelling on what I don't have is just going to get me nowhere. So let's just move on, all right?

Nicole: Okay.

Jennifer: Well, that's done. I need to go see what that show was all about.

Kayla: Wait, wait, wait, can I talk to you for a second?

Jennifer: Uh, yeah, yeah. Is everything okay?

Kayla: Yeah, it's just, you know, with everything going on, I didn't want to-- I didn't want to bring this up.

Jennifer: Kayla, what is it?

Kayla: It's just that Steve and I have-- well, it's set in motion.

Jennifer: What? Kayla, I'm sorry.

Kayla: Yeah, well, the papers are being drawn up, and we'll sign, and that will be it.

Jennifer: I'm so sorry. I mean, I knew-- I knew that maybe this was coming, but I had hoped that you'd have figured it out.

Kayla: We couldn't. But I think it's the best... for both of us.

Jennifer: Oh, Kayla, I'm so sorry.

Nicole: Wow... that felt good. And if it gets back to Daniel on its own, I will feel even better. Whoa. What do you say, kiddo, huh? Are you as hungry as I am? Being contrite gives me an appetite, huh?

Nick: Mom, I love you. And knowing that I can come home and be with you and everyone when I come out of here is what's gotten me through this so far.

Jessica: But you won't--

Hope: What's so distressing to everyone, Nick, is that you're not even willing to fight for your own release. [Sighs]

Nick: Getting out of here is not just about me.

Hope: I understand that, Nick. It's about Melanie. And that's very important. But so is your mother... your grandmother, everyone who loves you. So are you. You do not belong in this place anymore.

Brady: How will you sleep at night if Nick stays in prison for another 18 months or longer? Like a baby, Melanie. All right? He put you through hell. His welfare is not your concern. You need to take care of you.

Melanie: Okay, but you weren't there for all of it, all right? Nick did some pretty awful things, but I wasn't exactly a saint either.

Brady: Well, you know what, it's apples and oranges. And by the way, you are a different person now.

Melanie: So what if Nick is too? He has to stay in jail because I feel nervous about it? That doesn't seem right. This whole thing doesn't seem right or fair, and I don't know what to do.

Brady: Stop. Stop it. It's gonna be fine. I promise you that.

Chad: What the hell's going on?

Melanie: N-- [Sighs]

Abe: I'm so sorry to hear about the divorce, Kayla.

Kayla: Thank you. It's okay. Listen, we all have a lot of things to get used to. A lot of changes. Not that-- not that I'm comparing my situation to what you two are going through--

Jennifer: is okay.

Kayla: No.

Jennifer: Do that.

Kayla: Uh-uh. No, no, no. It is not the same. Listen, I-- I'm gonna go in the kitchen and take care of some things. Thank you both for your support. Really.

Jennifer: So Nicole's apology.

Abe: [Chuckles] Yeah, that's odd, huh? Uh... how do you tell someone to back off when they're saying "I'm sorry"?

Jennifer: But do you think she was being sincere, really?

Abe: Yeah, I do, actually.

Jennifer: Are--are you sure she just doesn't need something from you, Abe?

Abe: I can't be completely sure. You know, I do know that forgiveness is-- well, it's easier than holding a grudge. It heals something inside you... just like it heals the person that's saying "I'm sorry." You know, Lexie was big on forgiveness.

Jennifer: Yes, she was.

Abe: She made me a better man in so many ways. Anyway, you know, like I said, Nicole's sincerity or lack of sincerity is really not important. Doing what I did... that gives me peace of mind. Holding on to anger and resentment, life's just... too short. We both know that better than anyone.

Jennifer: Yeah. Yeah, we do, Abe. We do.

Abe: Yeah, so what it's about for me right now is just appreciating everything and just trying to move forward.

Chad: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to pop off like that, I just, um-- you know what, never mind. Are you okay, Mel? Are you all right?

Melanie: Yeah. No, I just had a bad dream.

Chad: Uh... know, listen, I'm really sorry to hear about Madison. It's--

Brady: Thank you. Listen, she, um-- she's having nightmares about Nick.

Melanie: Well, he's on my mind, so it's not like it's just coming--

Chad: I told her to contact the parole board.

Brady: I know, I know. But she's feeling like she's gonna feel responsible if he stays in prison any longer.

Chad: Which wouldn't just be because of her.

Brady: I told her that the same thing.

Melanie: Okay, you-- okay, all right, I know-- I am aware that I am not the only deciding factor in whether Nick gets out or not, but I'm not sure if I want to be involved at all.

Chad: It's like you feel guilty about what he did to you. I don't--

Melanie: Do you have any idea how overbearing you're being about this? You too.

Chad: Yeah. Sorry.

Melanie: It's fine. It's just Brady's just picking up all your slack. This is supposed to be my decision.

Chad: Okay. Uh... well, you know, I love you, Mel, and I just-- you know, I'm worried about you.

Melanie: I know. I love you too, but this is-- this is an important decision for me to make.

Chad: Okay, well, I can't help that I disagree with you.

Melanie: You don't think it's my decision?

Chad: No, I think that you're not ready for him to be out of prison. And if you're not ready for that, then it's time for me to step in and help you decide. And Brady feels the same way too.

Brady: I do feel that way, but--

Chad: You know what, you need to heal, Mel. And you can't do that with Nick being out.

Nick: Mom... you're upset, okay? So...why don't you go splash some water on your face and come back, and we can talk more?

Jessica: I just don't understand, Nick.

Nick: I know. I know you don't. But go ahead. I need to-- I need to talk to Hope for a minute.

Hope: We're okay in here.

Nick: My mother? Really?

Hope: I don't know how else to get through to you.

Nick: This isn't fair, Hope.

Hope: I'm not trying to be fair. That's the point.

Abe: So what are your plans, going forward?

Kayla: Well, I'm not really sure. I was offered a position back at the hospital. I'm--I'm considering that.

Abe: You know, I think that's a good idea. It'll take your mind off the divorce.

Abigail: What?

Kayla: Oh, Abigail. I didn't hear you come in.

Abigail: You guys were together when we were spreading daddy's ashes. I thought you were working things out.

Kayla: I know. Well, that trip was about remembering your father, and Steve didn't-- we didn't want it to be about us, you know. Listen, baby, I know how much you love your Uncle Steve, but he's gonna be all right. I mean that.

Abigail: How do you know?

Kayla: How do I know what?

Abigail: You and Steve were together forever, and-- and now you're not? Now you're all alone, and Steve is all alone, and everything's just supposed to be fine? How?

Nicole: Wow, this is gonna be good. Hi. I, uh-- I didn't expect to see you here.

Daniel: Well, I work here.

Nicole: I know, I know.

Daniel: [Chuckles]

Nicole: I--I was just actually, um, getting a refill on my prenatal prescription. You know.

Daniel: Mm-hmm.

Nicole: Um... you know, Daniel, I, uh-- I'm sorry, I can't stop thinking about Nick getting parole, and I'm-- I'm worried about what it's gonna do to Melanie.

Daniel: Yeah, I-- I appreciate that, but I just-- it's really out of my hands.

Nicole: What if it isn't?

Daniel: What does that mean?

Nicole: Well, you know, I'm a P.R. rep at heart, and I could make a media firestorm in three phone calls. Just say the word. Look, I went through a similar situation when Trent was murdered. I was a suspect, and that's a terrible position to be in. But I'm just saying I understand what you're going through. And I'm on top of that. And I have the resources to act.

Daniel: I appreciate your offer, I do. But I cannot ask you to do that.

Nicole: Daniel, I would do anything for you. Do you know that?

Victor: I know exactly the person to do that with. Thanks again. I am having the most profitable morning.

Maggie: Oh, good.

Victor: In fact, my investor suggested I go out tonight and celebrate. And I think having a lavish meal with my lovely wife is a capital idea.

Maggie: Ooh, you spoil me, Victor.

Victor: No, I indulge you. But only because you're worth it...mwah.

Maggie: Well, good. Since, um, you think that, maybe you'll be more receptive to what I'm about to ask you.

Victor: Name it.

Maggie: Um, it's actually a favor for Daniel.

Victor: Oh. Be glad to help him--what's he need?

Maggie: Uh, well, actually, it's a friend of his. He's in a bit of a bind.

Victor: Financially?

Maggie: It's a little more complex than that. See, the friend, um... [Chuckles] She needs a place to stay, just for a while, and until Daniel can make arrangements more permanent.

Victor: She?

Maggie: She.

Victor: And she is?

Maggie: Nic--

Victor: No!

Maggie: You didn't even let me finish.

Victor: You want me to move Nicole under our roof with us?

Maggie: Just for a while.

Victor: If this was April, I'd swear it was a joke!

Maggie: It's not a joke.

Victor: All right, let's start this list from the most obvious place. Uh, you do realize that Brady lives here?

Maggie: I do.

Victor: And he's grieving the loss of a woman that he loved very much. And now you want him to live with his ex in his grandfather's house?

Maggie: Victor, we don't exactly live in a railroad flat. There's an entire wing up there that's not even being used. Brady-- you, for that matter, you never have to run into her.

Victor: If she lived in South America, it would be one continent too close.

Maggie: You need to be reasonable.

Victor: Reasonable?

Maggie: Daniel is your Godson.

Victor: I'm well aware of that.

Maggie: Okay, well, he's in sort of a bit of a situation.

Victor: And this is my problem how?

Maggie: Because... he needs for her to be safe... and that's with us.

Victor: Safe?

Maggie: Do I have to lay it out, Victor? One, she's pregnant. Two, EJ DiMera is coming after her, and he doesn't even-- oh, he's not even the father of the baby. So she needs to be safe. And Daniel wants to-- no, he needs to be the one to do it.

Victor: I am not the answer to this dilemma, Maggie. I am not.

Maggie: Well, this is the only place that he has to turn is to us.

Victor: Well, then, he should have thought about that before he got involved with that harpy. The answer is no. Just no.

Kayla: I want you to know something. Your Uncle Steve and I have worked on this for a very long time. It didn't-- it didn't just happen.

Abigail: Yeah. Yeah, I got that. I'll see you.

Kayla: Abigail, please.

Abigail: Please what? What? Let it go... just like you let Steve go. Hey, Cameron, it's me. I know we were supposed to get together later, but I am-- this is a-- it's just not--not a good day.

Maggie: Is that all you have to say to me, Victor, is just no?

Victor: "No" is a complete sentence, Maggie. So yes. No!

Maggie: I am trying to help Daniel.

Victor: You want to help that boy? Let him move in here. When he crosses the threshold, slam the door behind him, and lock it, so that woman can never get near him again.

Maggie: See, Daniel said you wouldn't like it, and I said you'd be reasonable. And, clearly...I was wrong.

Victor: Oh, I'm being unreasonable because I don't want that sociopathic woman darkening my doorway?

Maggie: It's always about you.

Victor: In this case, you're damn right!

Maggie: And how can you be so unbelievably pigheaded?

Victor: You really want that woman to move into this house? For God's sakes, I was married to her once! Obviously during a period where I was insane! And that's okay with you?

Maggie: Oh, that is such ancient history, and it has nothing to do with that. And do you know that I resent it when you-- you can take unilateral decisions about our life?

Victor: It is not unilateral! It's my opinion.

Maggie: Okay, you know what, I think that having her live here is a grand idea. And that's my opinion, so it holds a lot of weight! Just--

Jennifer: What in the world is going on in here? And who's moving in?

Daniel: You've got enough on your plate without taking on my daughter's stuff. And I do-- I really appreciate your offer and your desire to help me.

Nicole: I really do.

Daniel: I know you do. Ooh, but you know what-- my daughter is her own person. She makes up her mind, and she does what she thinks is best. And my giving you the green light to leak information that could keep Nick in prison-- that's just not-- that's really not her style or mine.

Nicole: Okay.

Daniel: Okay. Uh, I gotta go back to work... here.

Nicole: I don't want to keep you, but I was-- I was just wondering if you gave any more thought to my living situation.

Daniel: Yeah, actually, I have, and I have a plan. And I think it's gonna work out just right.

Hope: So sue me for doing what I think is best for you, Nick, which is to get you the heck out of this place. Okay, did I play hardball, by bringing your mother here this morning? Yes, I did.

Nick: This is upsetting for her.

Hope: Yes! Seeing her son in prison, it is. It's upsetting to her. [Sighs] So fine. You won't do anything to plead your case, hopefully your record will speak for itself, and the parole board will do the right thing and let you out of here. But I swear, you do anything to sabotage yourself, to keep your sorry butt in here any longer... I'm gonna kill you.

Chad: You're focusing on the wrong thing, Melanie.

Brady: I agree with him.

Chad: Look, you're the one who needs Nick gone for as long as he can be gone. Those 18 months are on him for what he did to you. They're not on you.

Brady: You're the one that got hurt, Melanie.

Chad: And then you had to have those wounds re-opened with again Andrew.

Melanie: Okay, fine. So because I have rotten luck, Nick has to rot in jail for another year and a half?

Hope: I've seen your file, Nick, and I've told you a million, times there are letters from prison doctors, social workers-- even one from the Warden himself, all saying you're not the same person who was brought in here. They see that you've changed.

Nick: Their opinion.

Hope: Which counts. Which counts a lot. Nick...look, they're gonna weigh all that. Then they'll consider what's best for Melanie and society, but also what's best for you.

Nick: What do you want from me, Hope?

Hope: The truth. I want you to let the truth and the record speak for itself... and not self-sabotage and short-circuit the process because you hate yourself and think you should be punished up until the next millennium. That's what I want.

Nick: Well, that's asking a lot.

Hope: You're not just hurting yourself sinking your ship. You're punishing everyone who loves you.

Chad: You don't have to take care of anyone but yourself.

Brady: He's right.

Melanie: I hear you both, okay? I just--I need some more time to think.

Chad: You don't have any time left, Mel. The hearing is today. If you don't write that letter and get it into the parole board's hands soon--

Brady: I think this is a moot point.

Chad: Look... it's now or never.

Nick: I'm trying to do the right thing. You might think that I'm trying to be difficult here, but what I'm trying to do is make the right decision.

Hope: The truth... is the right decision, Nick.

Jessica: Hope is right, Nick. You know she is.

Melanie: Okay. Give me a piece of paper and a pen, please.

Nicole: This is great. I could be out of the hotel in five minutes.

Daniel: Yeah, there's really no rush.

Nicole: Are you kidding? I cannot wait to get out of there.

Daniel: I'm sure of that. But I'm still waiting to hear back.

Nicole: You're-- what do you mean, "hear back"? About...

Daniel: About where you'll be living.

Nicole: I'm--I'm confused. Is there some sort of policy in your building about people staying in your apartment, or--

Daniel: [Chuckles] Oh, my-- oh, I'm--I'm sorry. Oh, my God, I should have been clearer. Um, I'm not talking about my place.

Nicole: Oh. Whose place were you talking about?

Daniel: Victor and Maggie's.

Jennifer: I heard the two of you arguing all the way out in the driveway.

Maggie: I asked my husband a simple favor, and he just dismissed it out of hand.

Victor: Oh, really? Moving Nicole Walker into this house is a simple favor? On what, planet impossible? It's insanity.

Maggie: It's a necessity! EJ is breathing down that poor girl's neck.

Victor: This conversation is over. I will never open the doors of this house to Nicole Walker.

Maggie: Victor, that sounded decidedly like an ultimatum.

Jennifer: All right, the two of you, you really need to stop arguing like this.

Maggie: He can't compromise.

Victor: What's to compromise? It's black and white, yes or no. And I say--

Maggie: Oh, yes, I know! You say no.

Jennifer: Okay, I have a solution. I have a solution.

Maggie: What?

Jennifer: What if Nicole moves in with me?

Jailer: Just got a message from the Warden. He's available now for the meeting you requested.

Nick: Tell him I've changed my mind.

Hope: Oh, my God. Does this mean--

Jessica: Oh, yes. Thank you. Thank you so much.

Nick: Look, look, I'm gonna let this play out. But if Melanie decided to write a letter to the parole board, I'm not gonna counter it... whichever way she goes.

Hope: Good enough. I'm going to go get Bo. He's testifying as the arresting officer. Thank you. Maybe you'll say the same to me later. Come here.

Jessica: Oh, this is the best news. Oh.

Chad: Um, I think you really helped her out with this. So thanks, Brady.

Brady: She's been through a lot. I just hope this puts some of it to bed for her.

Melanie: "To the members of the parole board, I am writing this to tell you how I feel about the unthinkable-- the prospect of Nick Fallon being released from prison."
