[Knock at door]

Carrie: Hi.

Rafe: Hey.

Carrie: Bad time?

Rafe: No, no. I could use a break from all this. What's up? You seem happy.

Carrie: I am actually. I have some good news to share if you're interested in hearing it.

Rafe: Always. What's going on?

John: And what is this?

Lucas: The key to the entire DiMera Empire.

John: I'm not sure I understand.

Lucas: You will when you open it. This changes everything.

Marlena: John?

John: It's--it's a letter from Alice Horton to Stefano.

Marlena: The one that was in the safe deposit box?

John: "Dear Stefano, I will spare you any unnecessary suspense and get right to the point. EJ is not your son." Where the hell did you get this?

Lucas: Will had it.

EJ: William. What the hell is going on?

Will: It's not in here.

EJ: What are you talking about? William!

Will: I've lost something, okay? I'm gonna find it.

Ian: Well, that's very interesting. Yes, well, keep me informed if there's any movement on the DiMera front. Yes, I expect that from you. Thank you.

Kate: You're right. That is quite interesting.

Ian: Beg your pardon, darling?

Kate: You keeping tabs on-- how did you put that-- "the DiMera front." Why the personal inquiries?

Ian: I'm just looking after your interests.

Kate: My interests. Maybe I should put the question a little differently. What's in it for you?

[Door opens]

EJ: That was quick. I take it you found what you were looking for.

Sami: Well, I found the front door open.

EJ: That was your son. He left in quite a hurry.

Sami: Yes, I noticed that he was skidding out of here when I pulled into your driveway. Is everything all right?

EJ: As far as I'm aware. I, uh, wasn't expecting you.

Sami: No, but you are going to be very happy I'm here.

EJ: Really? Why is that?

Sami: Because I have come to save your life.

EJ: You're going to save me, are you? Well, I assume you're speaking metaphorically.

Sami: Oh, stop it, EJ. This time I am serious.

EJ: Okay. Let the salvation begin.

Sami: Okay, so I was at the pub, and I was watching this guy installing security cameras for my grandmother, and it reminded me of something that my dad told me.

EJ: "Crime doesn't pay"?

Sami: No. He told me about all these safety cameras that they're putting all over Salem, you know, to help keep people safe. The point is they're everywhere.

EJ: You're talking about... everywhere?

Sami: Do you see what I'm saying? That there could be footage out there, there could be proof that you were out there, that you threw those gloves away.

EJ: But there could also be proof that somebody else came and picked them up.

Sami: Right, and then that will be proving what you said all along, which is that you're being set up.

EJ: Samantha, you're brilliant. Mwah! Thank you!

John: So Junior isn't Junior after all. Oh, I can't believe it.

Lucas: Yeah, all that time he was insisting that he could never kill his own father, he was right because Stefano wasn't his father.

John: Well, that's assuming that EJ knew about that letter.

Lucas: He had to have known. Come on, he had to have known. We all knew he was guilty. We just didn't know what pushed him over the edge. But now we do. Stefano was gonna disinherit him. He had no choice. He had to do it before somebody else found out.

Marlena: Someone knew. Will did. He had the letter. So he did know. And he never told anybody.

John: But why? Why would he keep it a secret?

Lucas: Because Will was protecting that son of a-- [Clears throat] Sorry.

Marlena: What if it turns out that it wasn't EJ he was protecting?

John: What are you thinking?

Marlena: Well, I don't wanna say it, but what if Will had something to do with whatever EJ had done?

Ian: Where is this coming from?

Kate: You said you didn't want to have secrets from each other, right?

Ian: Yes, I did.

Kate: Well, neither do I. And you still haven't answered my question.

Ian: Hmm. You want to know why I'm keeping tabs on DiMera Enterprises? The simple pleasure of taking care of you.

Kate: I think I have to be very clear about something to avoid confusion.

Ian: All right.

Kate: You easily manipulated Madison with your abundant charms, and once upon a time, you did the same to me. But times have changed.

Ian: You don't trust me. You haven't from the start. I understand that.

Kate: Do you?

Ian: Yes. It's because of the way Stefano treated you. He tested your loyalty, even after you swore your love and devotion to him.

Kate: Unfortunately, yes, that is true. Loving Stefano made me vulnerable. And that's a lesson learned.

Ian: That's why I'm gonna take care of you. So you won't be at the mercy of that man ever again.

Kate: How are you going to do that? Angle for a share of the DiMera fortune using my name?

Ian: Well, don't you think you're entitled to that?

Kate: Okay. But what then? Because I'm grateful, I'm going to share the windfall with you?

Ian: There are benefits to that situation. I can see that.

Kate: You make it happen and we'll talk.

Rafe: Good news, huh? Yeah? Hold on, hold on, hold on. Hold on. Let me guess. I'm gonna-- okay. What, what, you and Austin, you found a house together? What is it, huh?

Carrie: You're close. We're definitely moving. To Switzerland.

Rafe: What?

Carrie: Yeah, we're moving back. We're leaving Salem.

Rafe: Oh.

Rafe: Switzerland. That's--that's--wow! A little farther away than I expected.

Carrie: I know.

Rafe: I really didn't see that one coming.

Carrie: That's why I wanted you to hear it from me.

Rafe: Yeah. Well, that's a big decision.

Carrie: It is. But I think it's the right one for us. Austin and me, I mean.

Rafe: Yeah. I just would have thought with the baby coming, you would wanna be here with the people that care about you,

Carrie: Yeah. It's not gonna be easy saying good-bye to everyone, but I need to do this. I need to put my marriage first. Austin and I need a fresh start, and we were happy in Zurich, and I think that we can be again without any distraction.

Rafe: Mm-hmm. That's--that's good. That's the right decision.

Sonny: Hey, what's up?

Will: Hey, sorry.

Sonny: Will, you all right?

Will: No, not really.

Sonny: Did you lose something?

Will: Yeah, I just gotta-- I just gotta find it.

Sonny: All right, well, what is it? I'll help you find it.

Will: It's a small, white, like, envelope.

Sonny: Okay, well, what's inside?

Will: Um, a letter. A really important letter. And if I don't find it, honestly, I'm dead and so is EJ.

John: So Rafe knows we're on our way.

Lucas: Yeah, yeah, I called him. I told him we had something to show him, but I didn't tell him what it was.

John: That's good.

Marlena: Before we go to the police, shouldn't we just give this a moment?

Lucas: For what? Why?

Marlena: To think about the consequences of what we're about to set in motion.

Lucas: Well, I'm hoping it'll be EJ's life sentence.

Marlena: But you found that because it fell out of Will's backpack. Don't we owe it to Will to discuss it with him first?

Lucas: Well, you might be right but--

Ian: Oh, hello, Mrs. Black. Hello, Mr. Black, Lucas.

Lucas: Ian.

Ian: We are on our way to lunch. I would be honored if you three would care to join us.

John: No.

Ian: I'm sorry, but have I upset you in some way?

John: You offend me, McAllister. Coming in here acting like we're pals after what you did to my boy.

Ian: Oh, you're upset because Brady fell off the wagon. Well, I certainly hope he gets the help that he needs.

John: Yeah, I'm sure you do.

Marlena: Hey.

Ian: Perhaps you should have paid more attention to your son, Mr. Black, instead of focusing on trying to take control of DiMera Enterprises.

John: You know, I don't know what you've heard or where you heard it from, but what I do or I don't do or I intend to do, it's none of your business.

Ian: I beg to differ. You see, anything that happens at DiMera Enterprises, well, it's very much my business.

Sami: [Chuckles] EJ, um, you should call. You should call and find out about the surveillance footage, right?

EJ: Right. Hey, it's me. Listen, I need you to do something for me. I need you to find out if there are surveillance cameras around the corner of Fourth and Broad. Can you do that? Good. Get me the footage from June 14th, sometime in the afternoon. Okay, and, uh, use your discretion. Thank you.

Sami: Yeah. Yeah, no problem. Um, I should go.

EJ: Oh, don't go. Why would you go, Samantha? I mean, I haven't had the opportunity to properly thank you yet for pointing out these cameras to me.

Sami: No need to thank me.

EJ: Samantha, this could very well be the evidence that casts reasonable doubt on the prosecution's case.

Sami: I hope it is. And, you know, I mean for the kids, 'cause I don't want them to have to see their dad getting carted off to prison.

EJ: No, especially for a crime he didn't commit. You forgot that part.

Sami: Stop, stop it.

EJ: Stop what?

Sami: I'm with Lucas.

EJ: I think that's a little bit presumptuous, don't you?

Sami: You know what I'm talking about. Don't pretend like you don't.

EJ: Do you think that I need to be reminded that you're with Lucas? I think maybe you need to be reminded that Lucas doesn't want you here.

Sami: I know that. [Sighs]

EJ: And yet you're here.

Carrie: [Sighs] Growing up overseas, having dual citizenship. You know, it's an amazing opportunity for any child. She'll be speaking Italian and French like she's a native, and she'll probably be skiing before she's walking.

Rafe: Yeah, it's--it's great. It's an amazing opportunity for any child. I'll miss you.

Carrie: I'll miss you too. A lot.

Rafe: Yeah, well...

Carrie: But, you know, this hasn't been an easy year for any of us.

Rafe: No, it sure hasn't. No.

Carrie: And we were happy in Switzerland, and I think that we can be again. And I just wanna reconnect with him. It's important to me. Especially now.

Rafe: Yeah.

John: DiMera Enterprises isn't a part of Titan. So what do you care what goes on there?

Ian: If the leadership at DiMera changes, I'm concerned how that will impact Kate. She is Stefano's widow, and she has a vested interest in the company.

Lucas: Yeah, we all know that Stefano cut her off before he died. Gave her company to Sami and dismantled mine. Left us with nothing.

Ian: Well, I intend to rectify that particular injustice. Your mother deserves better treatment than she ever had from that man.

Lucas: Wonder why that was.

John: Come on, McAllister. You can knock off the white knight act. No one's buying it here. Not after what you did to Brady and Madison.

Ian: What I did to Brady? What I did for Brady was I gave him many opportunities to straighten himself out. It is not my fault that he failed. And isn't it typical? An addict always blames others for his actions.

Marlena: Really? So you're playing the victim here?

John: Don't mess with my family, pal. Understand?

Ian: I should take that advice to heart. Isn't that what Stefano DiMera did, mess with your family? And we know what happened to him, don't we?

Sonny: How bad could it really be?

Will: What?

Sonny: If you don't find the letter?

Will: Sonny, when I said "dead," I wasn't exaggerating. If I don't find this letter, EJ will go to jail. And if that happens, he will kill me.

Sami: Okay, stop it. Stop making a big deal out of this.

EJ: Lucas certainly makes a big deal about you seeing me.

Sami: Well, he was right. I shouldn't have come here. I should have just called.

EJ: Well, next time do. You have my number.

Sami: I'm not going to need your number because there's not gonna be a next time, okay? So just forget about it.

EJ: There's always a next time between you and me.

Sami: Yeah, well, if Lucas ever found out that I was here...

EJ: Don't worry, your secret is quite safe with me.

Sami: You know what? There's not a secret, okay, EJ? So don't worry about it. Good-bye, good luck. I don't need--whoa! Oh.

EJ: Samantha, why don't you just admit it?

Sami: Admit what?

EJ: You wanted to come here. You wanted to see me. Why is that?

Sami: You know what? I wanted to help you because you are the father of two of my children.

EJ: Right. And you wanted to keep me out of prison. You already told me that. But as you admitted, you could have conveyed all this information to me with a telephone call, but you came here to see me in person. Why is that?

Sami: I don't know. Does it really even matter?

EJ: Why do I make you anxious?

Sami: 'Cause you are invading my personal space, okay? So stop it!

EJ: So that bothers you? Why does that bother you?

Sami: You bother me.

EJ: I bother you? Let me ask you a question. Do you feel the same way about Lucas?

Sami: No.

EJ: I didn't think so.

Sami: That is not what I meant and you know it.

EJ: Samantha, if Lucas is so important to you, why would you react this way every single time we're together?

Sami: Oh, shut up.

EJ: Why is it? Why is it that every single time our lives spin out of control, we end up in exactly the same place?

Sami: What are you talking about?

EJ: Together.

Sami: We're not together! Stop it, okay? We are not together. I am with Lucas and I'm gonna make this work. I am not gonna screw this up, okay?

EJ: You mean like the way you did with Rafe?

Carrie: I'm really glad that you're okay with this.

Rafe: Yeah, of course. Well, I... just want you to be happy. Right? Look at you.

Roman: Hey. Uh, am I interrupting something?

Both: No.

Carrie: No, you're not. I'm glad you're here actually. I have some good news that I want to share with you.

Roman: All right, well, I could use some of that. What's going on?

Carrie: Okay. Austin and I are moving back to Switzerland.

Roman: Switzerland?

Carrie: I know it's sudden.

Roman: What about the baby?

Carrie: Well, the baby's coming with us.

Roman: Oh, that's very cute, very cute, but you know what I mean. I mean, are you sure? I mean, do you wanna be that far away from your family now?

Carrie: It's not gonna be easy. I'm gonna miss you so much. But I need to do this for my family, Dad. I hope you understand.

Roman: Well, I do, I guess.

Carrie: Please say you're happy for me.

Ian: I understand the police are content to focus on EJ as the chief suspect in Stefano's murder. Perhaps they've gone down the wrong path.

Marlena: Now that's enough. John is right. Your friendly facade isn't fooling anybody. You've proven that you're capable of spreading idle gossip and vicious rumors.

Ian: I believe I'm entitled to an opinion, even though it's an unpopular one.

Marlena: I am too. My opinion is you're a misogynist bully.

Ian: Ah, I think you'll find Kate begs to differ on that.

Marlena: Hmm, what about Madison? No surprise that she found Brady attractive. He's a real gentleman.

Ian: Let's see how long that lasts. Shall we? Mr. Black, I wish you the best of luck with your family. You're gonna need it. Have a good day.

John: Well, I hope you know what you're doing.

Kate: You need to call me. We need to talk about some things.

Lucas: All right, I will.

John: What do you know about that clown?

Lucas: Who, Ian? Just that he and my mom go way back. Guess that's why he gave her that job at Mad World.

Marlena: And it was a way to make Madison uncomfortable.

Lucas: Yeah, my mom would call that an incentive.

John: Why don't you two head on down to the cop shop? Make sure Rafe gets this.

Marlena: Wait a minute, where are you going?

John: I'm gonna look a little deeper into Ian McAllister and find out what he's up to.

Marlena: Well, then maybe I should help you.

Lucas: And then I'll deliver this letter on my own. I can handle that, no problem.

Marlena: You know, are you sure you don't wanna talk to Will about this first?

Lucas: Marlena, I tried, I did, but this is about protecting Will. And I don't want him working for someone who killed a man, so right now it's just about getting EJ away from Will and away from Sami for good.

Carrie: You can have a Swiss vacation every year. Will can teach you how to video chat.

Roman: Hey, whoa, whoa, whoa. I'm not exactly ancient, you know? I can use a computer.

Carrie: You're sure about that? [Laughs]

Roman: You know what? It seems like your mind is pretty made up about this.

Carrie: It is.

Roman: Well, hopefully you can stick around for Abe's charity event. I know it would mean a lot to him if you and Austin were there.

Carrie: Well, I really wish we could, Dad, but for a lot of reasons, we've decided to leave tomorrow.

Rafe: What?

Will: Aww, damn it. It's not in--it's not in there.

Sonny: Maybe someone found it.

Will: My dad was here.

Sonny: When was he here?

Will: It was before I went to the mansion. So I put my bag down, and then I came out here to make a call, and I came back in. He was just sitting there.

Sonny: Okay, so maybe he found the envelope... read what's inside.

Lucas: Hi, I'm Lucas Horton. I called earlier. I'm here to see Detective Hernandez.

Officer: About?

Lucas: Stefano DiMera's murder.

Sami: What is the matter with you, EJ? Your marriage to Nicole, my marriage to Rafe, we threw them away for a mistake that I still can't even explain.

EJ: Samantha, whatever happens between the two of us is not rational. I mean, it really defies any sort of explanation. But you can't deny that it exists.

Sami: What are you doing?

EJ: You feel exactly the same way that I do. Just admit it.

Kate: Well, I guess now I won't have to ask you what that phone conversation was about earlier. Obviously, you had just received the news that John is making in-roads at DiMera Enterprises.

Ian: I had every intention of telling you. I just thought the news would be more palatable over a nice lunch.

Kate: How very thoughtful. And how very convenient that you ran into John when the news was still on your mind. It enabled you to twist the knife just a little deeper.

Ian: Do you think I was out of line?

Kate: I think you didn't need to goad him so much. I think you didn't need to throw his son's drug addiction into his face. He said that you were responsible.

Ian: You don't believe that, do you? You're very quick to protect John Black. Don't tell me he's one of your former paramours.

Kate: Now you know damn well that he is. Please don't pretend with me. Don't lie to me.

Ian: All right, I'm sorry. I've made it my full-time job to find out every single thing there is to know about you.

Kate: And is that supposed to flatter me?

Ian: Well, what if I used that to your advantage? To your benefit? What if I was able to get Countess Wilhelmina back and hand it to you?

Kate: And is that your end game, Ian?

Ian: You don't doubt my intention, do you?

Kate: Just once I would like to get a straight answer from you.

John: [Sighs]

Marlena: John... it's going to be okay.

John: Damn right it's gonna be okay because I'm gonna take that bastard down a peg or two. Brady worked too hard to beat his habit the first time.

Marlena: He will do it again. He's got a lot of support, he's got Madison at his side, and he is strong like his father.

John: Well, I just wish he would have come to me before it got this far.

Marlena: Well, maybe he felt confused, ashamed. Maybe he didn't want to have you think less of him.

John: Come on, doesn't he know--I'd never do that! He's my boy. I love him! And I should have been there for him, and I wasn't.

Marlena: Yeah, I wish I'd been there for him too. And for Will.

John: Come on, Doc, what are you talking about? You were there every step of the way.

Marlena: You know, I thought that will was always comfortable coming to me, confiding in me, trusting me, but now...

John: But now what?

Marlena: He's gotten very good at keeping secrets. I mean, he had to at one point, but now I think he might be keeping secrets for EJ. I just--I hope he hasn't decided that EJ is more important to him than his family is.

Will: Oh, my God, this can't be happening.

Sonny: No, look, maybe this is a good thing. All right, if your dad's the one that found it, then you can just ask for it back, right?

Will: No. Not if he read what was inside the letter. He hates EJ, hates that I work for him, hates--I don't know-- that he has a relationship with my mom, whatever the hell it is.

Sonny: Okay, well, whatever's in the letter is about EJ. So maybe your dad went to EJ's. Right? I mean, that's the worst- case scenario if that were to happen.

Will: No. No, he would go to the police.

Sonny: Wait, Will!

Sami: Why are you doing this?

EJ: Because I think we need to be honest about what's going on here.

Sami: Nothing is going on here.

EJ: Samantha, I said honest. Do you have any idea what that means?

Sami: You know what, I don't even know why you're getting into this. It's not worth it.

EJ: Because we need to.

Sami: No, I don't think we do. We already know the most important thing, that when we get in within ten feet of each other, disaster ensues.

EJ: What if this time's different?

Sami: It's not gonna be. It's not going to be different, so it's just not worth it.

EJ: Samantha, there is something between the two of us that means we can't stay away from one another, and please don't insult me by telling me it's about the bloody children.

Sami: EJ, we are not good together. We are the opposite of good. When we are together, we hurt each other. We hurt other people. We're both selfish. When we decide that we want something, we run over anybody who gets in our way.

EJ: Who's in our way now?

Roman: Wow. Tomorrow.

Carrie: I'm sorry, Dad. I got an offer from my old firm. They want me to start right away. One good thing about living in a hotel, you can just pick up and go. And we still have our old place, so...

Roman: So you're all set.

Carrie: I think we are.

Officer: Excuse me. Detective Hernandez? There's a Lucas Horton who wants to see you.

Roman: Yeah, tell him I'll be there in a sec.

Officer: All right. Commissioner, I need to have you take a look at this.

Roman: Sure, absolutely.

Rafe: You-- you... [Sighs] Well, uh... take care of yourself, okay?

Carrie: Rafe, I'm so sorry.

Rafe: No, hey, really? Don't be sorry. You know me. You know I want what's best for you, your family.

Carrie: Right back at you.

Rafe: Okay, okay. I gotta get back to work. Stuff to do.

Carrie: Okay.

Rafe: Safe travels.

Carrie: Thanks.

Roman: You okay, honey? Carrie, I'm gonna ask you something. Your decision to move all the way to Switzerland with Austin, does this possibly have anything to do with getting some distance from Rafe?

Carrie: Dad--

Roman: I'm just asking, okay? That's all I'm doing, just asking. And I want you to think about what I'm gonna say here, okay? Is this what you want? Is this absolutely what you want to do?

Carrie: Yes. I'm pregnant with Austin's baby, and I'm committed to making our marriage work.

Roman: Even if that means moving halfway around the world?

Carrie: That's why I'm moving halfway around the world, because it's that important to me.

Roman: All right. Okay. Okay. If it means that much to you, then, uh... you got my support. You got my support 100%. So I, uh--damn. I'm gonna miss the hell outta you. You know that? Do you?

Carrie: Yeah, I'm gonna miss you too. Come here. I love you so much.

Roman: I love you so much.

Marlena: John. About Ian today, he was trying very hard to get under your skin.

John: Yeah, and I'm sorry I let him.

Marlena: No, no, it's not that. It just reminded me of Stefano. The way he used to push your buttons to try to provoke you. And Ian did the same thing, and it worked.

John: You're so damn right. He did. Now I'm really sorry.

Marlena: No, honey, not to be sorry about. Just be aware of it. I think Ian is a dangerous man. You need to be careful.

John: Oh, come on, sweetheart, I will be. Nothing's gonna happen. You have my word on that, honey.

Ian: You know, you spent too long under Stefano's influence. That has affected you.

Kate: Has it?

Ian: Hmm. You're paranoid. You look for conspiracies where there are none, and you know the trouble with that? You miss what's obvious.

Kate: Oh. So what's obvious here?

Ian: Well, my job as the head of Titan is to be aware of the competition. And that includes DiMera Enterprises. And if I should get some knowledge and I use that knowledge for my own advantage, why shouldn't I? Here's to getting what we deserve.

EJ: Samantha. This irresistible pull that is between us... deny it. I dare you. You can't... any more than I can.

Sami: I don't feel anything for you.

EJ: You're a liar. And not a very good one.

Sami: What? What are you--?

EJ: Don't deny it, Samantha. There's something between us, whether you like it or not.

Sami: [Slams desk] [Sighs]

Rafe: Hey, sorry to keep you waiting.

Lucas: It's all right.

Rafe: So there's something you wanna show me?

Lucas: Yeah, yeah, I think I got it all figured out. EJ's real motive for taking Stefano down. It's all right here.

Rafe: Is that right?

Lucas: Oh, yeah.

Rafe: Okay.

Lucas: Get your arrest warrant ready. You might want to add fraud to your list of charges while you're at it.

Rafe: Fraud, huh?

Lucas: Oh, yeah, take a look.

Rafe: What? EJ's not Stefano's son?

Lucas: Nope.

Rafe: Are you serious?
