Austin: Sorry, sorry.
Carrie: I'm sorry. I was just a million miles away.
Austin: Yeah, it seemed that way.
Carrie: Actually, it was more like six months. I was just thinking about holding her in my arms.
Austin: Mm-hmm. Even at 2:00 in the morning?
Carrie: Ooh. I won't care. Oh, it was so amazing when we heard a little heartbeat. It just--it made it so real. Wasn't it amazing?
Austin: I know. I mean, it's like this-- it's this great kind of scary. I mean, this--it's not an idea. This is our baby in there. And he is gonna make us a real family.
Carrie: She. She--it's starting to feel like a girl to me.
Austin: Oh, really?
Austin: I don't know. I mean, look at this kid. I mean, he looks just like me. He's so handsome. It's got to be a-- it's got to be a guy.
Austin: Don't worry--the next one's gonna be a girl, and look just like you... beautiful, beautiful you.
Daniel: I can't-- I can't take it. I got to go in there.
Nicole: No, no, no, no. No, Daniel, you can't. Let Bo and Hope do their job. If you go in there, it's like someone charging in your O.R. when you're operating. And look, you could hurt Melanie.
Daniel: I can't stand it. I can't stand wondering-- wondering what they're gonna find in there.
Nicole: I know, I know. I know.
Rafe: Bo and Hope are inside?
Nicole: Yeah. Yeah, they got the warrant.
Rafe: I'm gonna back 'em up.
Daniel: [Sighs] Please, God, let her be okay.
Hope: Be gentle with her. All right, take it easy. Get your bearings. You're okay.
Rafe: [Sighs] God. Gabi, what's going on? You okay?
Gabi: Uh, I--
Chad: Gabi, w-where's Melanie?
Austin: Did you get much sleep?
Carrie: Yeah. I had a great nap.
Austin: I don't think you did. I saw you were tossing and turning like crazy. I'm a little worried about you.
Austin: Because I know that you're worried about... how much our lives are gonna change.
Carrie: There's just, you know, so much to think about-- bottle or breast-feed, cry it out or co-sleep--so many decisions. And I just--I want the baby to be healthy and happy.
Austin: Did you hear what that doctor said? Did you? He said he or she...
Austin: Is perfect.
Carrie: Thank God.
Austin: And I know what you mean. All of a sudden, there's this little person that we haven't even met yet. [Sighs] And nothing matters as much as her.
Carrie: [Laughs] Or him. Maybe it'll be that little boy you can take to Wrigley Field.
Austin: Or it could be that little girl that I'm gonna take to Wrigley Field.
Carrie: What if she takes after me and she can't tell the difference between a strike and a ball?
Austin: What did I tell you? I told you that most people can't tell the difference between a strike and a ball. It's just--they're just not as honest as you are.
Austin: And I don't care if she can't find the strike zone. I want her to be as much like her mommy in all the ways that matter... like how honest you are. [Sighs] I've always loved that about you.
Rafe: Gabi... what happened here?
Hope: It's all right. It's all right. You're safe now.
Rafe: Hey, you sure you're okay? Did he--
Gabi: Oh, my head really hurts.
Chad: Bo, check this out. Look at this.
Hope: Gabi, we're going to get you to a doctor. You're gonna be okay.
Rafe: All right, honey, just try and focus here, okay? Gabi, we need to know what happened.
Bo: I know what happened here. You were taken by the same person who kidnapped Melanie.
Austin: You never change. You hate it when somebody says something nice about you.
Carrie: Well, you make me sound like a saint. And we both know that's not true.
Austin: No, no, no. I didn't say that you were a saint. I said that you were honest, even when it hurts to be.
Carrie: Well, don't tell my new boss that, please, because no one likes an honest lawyer.
Austin: Well, I sure do.
Carrie: Aah. Ow.
Austin: You all right? You all right? You all right?
Carrie: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Damn it.
Austin: Oh, no.
Carrie: It's my fault. It's my fault, because I left the door open.
Austin: Do you see that there's not even room to turn around in this place?
Carrie: [Sighs] And I'm also extra clumsy right now.
Austin: No, sweetheart, listen to me. And don't take it the wrong way. I want to say this in the most caring, sensitive way. This place is so small already. And you are about to get, you know... [Sighs] A lot larger.
Carrie: [Laughs] Why, thank you for reminding me.
Austin: Maybe that didn't come out the right way. But listen, every place that we look at it--it's either too big, too small, too far, too close, too expensive.
Carrie: I know.
Austin: Yeah. We just have to get into a house immediately. You're gonna need a room for your home office. That baby is gonna need a nursery. Later on, we're gonna need room for a swing set-- and after that, for a stable.
Carrie: A stable?
Austin: Yes, a stable, for the pony.
Carrie: [Laughs] What?
Austin: Okay, I hope you do realize that I am gonna be the kind of father that won't be able to say no to anything. You do realize that, right?
Carrie: Well, thank God I have no problem saying no. No pony, no stable.
Austin: [Sighs] Babe, house, now.
Carrie: Okay, I know. You're right. We--it's too crowded in here. And we need to find a place to live, but I am swamped. I have no time to look.
Austin: Well, you loved that new construction over there on the West Side. You liked that one.
Carrie: Yeah, you're right. I di--well, it's just too far.
Austin: The spec house-- you liked the spec house.
Carrie: With the hideous floors?
Austin: I could redo the floors. I'm great with my hands.
Carrie: Do you remember the last time you said that--. The shower stall? [Laughs] Yeah, I guess you're right. I guess you're right. Although we did have a lot of fun in that bathtub for a couple of months, right?
Austin: Yes, we did.
Carrie: Okay, so no fixer-uppers. But here's what I can do. I can go and I can take a bunch of pictures, okay? And I could just narrow it down to a few choices.
Austin: Great. And you'll find a huge estate with a polo field or something.
Carrie: But we are gonna make the final decision together. Okay? Just let me do the legwork and-- it'll be like a scouting report.
Carrie: I look at what our lives are gonna be like, and I cannot wait for it to start, because you and I--we're gonna be baby-changing, mortgage-paying... wonderfully happy married couple.
Daniel: Oh. All right, this is just taking too long.
Nicole: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hey, look, they--they... they asked you to leave. They're not just gonna let you back in there.
Daniel: What if it was your kid? Would you freakin' go home? Would you say, "just call me. I'll be okay"?
Daniel: I have to know.
Bo: Gabi, tell me, did this guy chloroform you? Did he knock you out?
Gabi: Oh, I, uh... I think so. I don't know. Everything happened really fast.
Rafe: Why did you come here, Gabi?
Hope: Gabi, it's okay. But we need to know, so we can find Melanie.
Gabi: I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. I don't--
Bo: It's okay. Listen, I know it's difficult and scary, but you got to tell us everything you know. Now, why did you come to this particular house?
Gabi: Look, I know you guys told me not to. But I was going door-to-door, okay? I was--I was using the map that you guys had to try to find Melanie. I remember... I remember I came up to the house. And I knocked on the door. But then nobody answered, so then I just tried to leave. And then somebody grabbed me from behi--I don't know. That's all I remember, really.
Hope: Okay, okay, okay. It's all right. Did you see their face?
Gabi: Just cloth in my face. Rafe, did I screw things up? Did I--did I make things worse for Melanie?
Rafe: I don't know.
Hope: Honey, you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's okay.
Rafe: Yeah, it spooked the guy into taking off.
Bo: With Melanie.
Daniel: Well, then I hope you come up with some other kind of plan... soon.
Melanie: Hello? Hello?
Carrie: Did you find our dream house yet?
Austin: No, you know, I put "Polo Field" in the finder, and nothing came up.
Carrie: [Chuckles] Well, maybe you should start within our price range.
Austin: Nah... that feels too constraining to me, you know?
Carrie: Oh, boy.
Austin: Can I just let you in on something here? This is your list, all right? "No older than ten years... at least three bedrooms, no more than five... community playground... pool, if possible... granite countertops." Do you kind of get an idea of why we're not living in a house yet--just maybe?
Carrie: Okay, well, I'll give up the gas stove if you cook.
Austin: That's a deal. That's a deal. I'm down with that, just as long as I get a man cave.
Carrie: [Laughs] Okay, so, if this is a boy, does that mean that I won't see him between the ages of 6 and 16?
Austin: Maybe... maybe not.
Carrie: And you--you don't work today, right? So does that mean you're going shopping for flat-screen TVís or what?
Austin: Flat--was I supposed to go shopping for flat-screen TVís? I-I kind of thought that maybe today I would go to the gym, because I really need to start working out for all those late-night feeding sessions. You know?
Carrie: I need a membership to the gym too. I need to work off the ice cream at some point in my spare time, whenever that is.
Austin: Mm-hmm. You don't ever have to worry about that... 'cause you know that I think you are beautiful always.
Carrie: Mmm. And you are so sweet. But I really do need to go. Okay, where did I put that? I thought it was right here.
Carrie: Oh, no. The ultrasound photo. Don't tell me that I lost it.
Austin: Oh, I got it. I got it. I put it-- I put it in my gym bag... because I wanted to make copies, you know, for family or friends or any other strangers that happen to want to see a picture of what a perfect baby looks like.
Carrie: I've never seen you so happy.
Austin: That's not true. The day we got married, I was, as they say... the happiest man in the world.
Carrie: [Giggles] [Gasps]
Austin: Just like right now.
Hope: Okay, stand up. You okay?
Daniel: So was my daughter ever even here?
Bo: Yeah, man, she was.
Daniel: How do you know for sure? Oh, God.
Bo: Look, I'm sorry, man.
Daniel: Were you gonna tell me anything? Or were you just gonna stand around here chatting while I was out there wondering if my daughter was dead?
Bo: Take it easy. Take it easy. Daniel, I know how difficult this is for you. Believe me, I do. And I'm sorry.
Rafe: Daniel, just listen, okay? Whoever has Melanie grabbed my sister. He drugged her. He dragged her down here and tied her up. Now, we were just talking to her, trying to get some leads on what to do next, all right?
Daniel: Well, is she okay? I mean, did he--did he try to do anything at all?
Rafe: No, no, no, no, no. He just drugged her, okay? Now, she spooked him, and... he moved on.
Daniel: With Melanie. With my daughter. And you have no idea where he's taken her?
Bo: We'll find out. We will.
Daniel: Yeah, but now you know who it is. The creep who lives here--
Bo: We're working on that. We're working on that. But right now I need all of you out of this room. The lab needs this room. So go outside. And I'll keep you posted, okay?
Bo: Go on.
Nicole: Daniel, please, he's right.
Daniel: I'm not going.
Bo: I need you out of here.
Daniel: All right, I'm not gonna stand around. I'm not gonna wait for nothing.
Nicole: All right, we'll do something, okay? We'll call the TV station, and we'll get the word out.
Rafe: That's a good idea.
Bo: Yeah, why don't you help facilitate that?
Rafe: Yeah, sure, just give me a second.
Bo: All right.
Rafe: I'm gonna go with Melanie's dad, all right? Chad, look after her. If you want me to go and meet you at the hospital, that's fine too.
Chad: No, it's okay, Rafe. I'll go with Gabi-- if that's okay with you. I just think your brother should go look for Melanie right now.
Gabi: Yeah, yeah. No, I think he's right. Go. Hey, I'll be fine with Chad.
Rafe: I'm glad you're okay. Chad, thanks.
Gabi: Thank you for always being so nice to me.
Chad: Of course, of course. Look, you're a victim, just like Melanie is, okay?
Bo: The lab is on their way. What do you got there?
Hope: I think we just got a lead.
Melanie: Ow. Oh, God. Oh, God. Ugh. Oh, my God.
Andrew: You don't look very happy to see me.
Melanie: Why am I here?
Andrew: Stop asking me that question. Don't start-- don't start crying. Don't start crying. Stop it. I said stop! Look, if you really must know, this wasn't part of the game plan. I just-- I got to keep it together. I just got to keep it together.
Melanie: Are they closing in on you? Is it getting out of hand?
Melanie: I don't think you wanted to take me here. I don't think you want to be here. They're starting to figure things out, right? So you had to take me here.
Andrew: Stop talking, okay?
Melanie: You need another game plan. Of course, you do have a very big card up your sleeve. You've been very smart about everything. You could walk away from all of this.
Andrew: Okay, then what card do I have up my sleeve?
Melanie: I don't know what you look like. So you could let me go. And then you could disappear. And I won't be able to tell anybody anything because I won't know. But I won't--I won't tell anybody anything. But you have to leave Salem now.
Andrew: Then I should just let you go?
Nicole: Thank you. Thank you so much. And I'll be sure to tell Victor what a great help you've been. Okay. All right, so they are putting a news bulletin together about Melanie. And it should be on-air within the hour.
Rafe: Good, good. All right, I'm gonna check in with the station to see if they found anything new.
Rafe: Hey... you hang in there.
Daniel: Thanks, man. I just-- ugh, I can't stop just thinking--picturing her with some--
Nicole: Okay, look, look, I know this is hell right now. But I need you to think about something, okay? Every time you think about what's happening, you think about how strong Melanie is, how smart and resourceful she is. She is a survivor. And she will fight like hell to get free.
Daniel: Thank you. No, you're right.
[Cell phone ringing]
Daniel: It's Carly. Excuse me a second.
Nicole: I just don't know how much more of this I can take. You know, I was--I was married to Trent. I know how hard Melanie's life was. And she doesn't deserve this.
Rafe: No. Being a parent's a really scary thing, huh?
Nicole: [Sighs] Yeah, I guess I'm gonna find out soon. Ow!
Rafe: What? You all right?
Nicole: Ow. Yeah, the baby just kicked me so hard.
Rafe: First time?
Nicole: No, no. I mean, normally it's just like a little flutter or something. I'm not really even sure what it feels like. But--aah! My God, there he goes again. What do I got here, a halfback, a fullback? Seriously, here. Look, look, look, look, look.
Rafe: I don't feel anything.
Nicole: Just wait a second. Hold on.
Rafe: All right. Whoa! Are you serious?
Nicole: [Laughs] Yeah.
Rafe: I'm going with NFL kicker. That was--wow. Wow. Intense.
Chad: That son of a-- it's like he's bragging that he has Melanie.
Hope: Hey, hold on a second, Brady. There's something on the back. It's a phone number.
Bo: Yeah. The first three numbers are smudged, though--watermark or something.
Hope: Chad, could this be Melanie's number?
Chad: Uh, no. But it could be yours.
Carrie: I am so glad you're home. You must be sick of me showing up here like this all the time.
Marlena: I'm not sick of you at all. I love seeing you. I'm concerned. You look a little upset.
Marlena: Give me that. Talk to me.
Carrie: [Sighs] I don't know what's wrong with me. Everything should be perfect. Austin and I are looking for our dream home. My job is going great. We had an ultrasound, heard the baby's heartbeat. Doctor says everything is perfect.
Marlena: Oh, I'm so pleased.
Carrie: Me too. And Austin is beyond happy. He's looking for houses like we should move in tomorrow. And he just--he can't stop talking about us and the baby and our future.
Marlena: Yeah. And you?
Carrie: I know that the tests say the baby's healthy and everything's great.
Marlena: You still worried?
Carrie: Well, I'm not a new-age kind of person, but, you know, I-I'm a lawyer. I'm pretty concrete.
Marlena: But what?
Carrie: But I can't help feeling that this can't be good for the baby, you know? That-- I just--I feel guilty all the time. And putting all the stress and the guilt and pushing my real feelings down can't be good for him or her.
Marlena: It's okay. Don't put yourself through any more stress. This baby's just fine.
Carrie: But I'm not. And Rafe had his hand on Nicole's stomach. He had this wonderful smile on his face. And I wanted that to be us. I wanted-- [Sighs] I wanted what I can't have. And I can't stop myself from wanting it. It's not fair... to Austin, to the baby. They deserve a real mother, a real wife.
Marlena: What about you? What do you deserve? You talked about what isn't fair to Austin, what isn't fair to the baby. What's fair to you? Honey, you've got feelings too, you know? And it's not healthy to hate yourself for having those feelings.
Carrie: They hurt. And I made my decision. And it's the right one. This is Austin's baby. We've wanted this forever. And I love him. And I love this baby. And I know that we can make it work... until I see Rafe. [Crying] And then I feel like I'm dying inside.
Marlena: I'm sorry to see you in so much pain.
Carrie: It's not like this is the first time. I mean, this is exactly the same situation with Mike, you know? I, uh, left Austin for Mike. And I thought we were gonna have this wonderful life together. It was all a fantasy, Marlena. I threw my marriage away, and Austin and I had to go through hell to find happiness again.
Marlena: But you did that. You did the work to find the happiness.
Carrie: I had no business walking away from a good marriage. And deciding that I wanted to have a future with my sister's husband?
Marlena: Now wait a minute. Sami's marriage falling apart had nothing to do with you.
Carrie: I'm not worried about Sami. God knows she's not worried about me. But my--my husband... I mean, how could I decide to break Austin's heart when he's been nothing but a good husband? I told myself I was doing the right thing. But deep down, I knew... I was being selfish. And I think this baby must be God's way of telling me that it's not my choice to make.
Nicole: Oh, thanks.
Nicole: Man, this baby's really kicking up a storm.
Rafe: Yeah, I know.
Nicole: Ugh, my adrenaline must be pumping.
Rafe: Yeah, maybe I should take you home so you can rest.
Nicole: I can't. I-I can't leave Daniel.
Rafe: Yeah. Yeah, you two seem pretty tight.
Nicole: What do you mean?
Rafe: Nothing. Just you've been there for him through this whole thing with Melanie. Well, I think that's really good of you.
Nicole: Well, I'm just doing what any good friend would do.
Rafe: You sure are. Yeah. You know, in fact, I think-- well, maybe you're not the person I used to think you were.
Nicole: Well, maybe not now. But I was pretty much the person that everyone thought I was for a long time.
Rafe: Yeah, well, maybe you were just misunderstood.
Rafe: You know?
Rafe: Anyway, I'm glad you're my friend. So that's--
Nicole: Well, you know what? Me too, huh? Me too.
Rafe: Huh? Hey.
Hope: What did you just say?
Chad: The last four digits are the same as Gabi's.
Hope: Uh, yeah, but don't touch it. You can't touch it, Chad.
Chad: Okay, just let me see it. First numbers are the same as Gabi's too.
Gabi: That--that doesn't even make any sense.
Gabi: No, I mean, why would the guy that has Melanie have my number written down on a paper?
Bo: I don't know. Is there something you're not telling us?
Gabi: No, I swear.
Chad: Maybe, uh-- maybe the guy who took Melanie is the same guy that's been stalking Gabi. I mean, think about it. It's the only thing that really makes sense here.
Andrew: So what you're saying is no harm, no foul? Let bygones be bygones? No, I don't think so.
Melanie: I promise I won't tell anybody.
Andrew: You know, people are always willing to promise when they're chained to a pipe. Now, I'm not letting you out of my sight.
Melanie: Do you smell that? Do you smell gas?
Melanie: If there's a gas leak down here, we got to go because--
Andrew: That's a nice try.
Melanie: I'm not kidding.
Andrew: That's a nice try, but we're not going anywhere, at least not yet. When we do, it won't be anywhere in Salem.
Melanie: Oh, my God.
Marlena: Do you see what a tight, little box you've built for yourself?
Carrie: I feel like I'm in a box, but I don't think I built it.
Marlena: No? Hmm. Well, usually I feel suspicious when somebody says that they don't have any choice... 'cause what I think she means by that is she doesn't have a choice where everybody ends up being happy... or she doesn't have a choice where nobody gets hurt.
Carrie: Go on. I can take it.
Marlena: Or she has no choice where gets to feel like a good person. And you have a very rigid definition of what makes a good person.
Carrie: I don't think that's true.
Marlena: No? Well, let's look at it. You chose to stay with Austin. But you feel that's unfair to him because you have feelings for Rafe. So not only must you do the right thing, you must be the right person. You must be a loving, devoted, unconflicted wife and mother. But if you go with Rafe, then you feel guilty about having hurt Austin. And if you stay with Austin, you feel it's unfair to him because you have feelings for Rafe. So you've built a box that is completely airtight. I know how you feel.
Carrie: And you chose to go to John.
Marlena: I know that broke your father's heart. And I anguished over that for-- for years. But I do know that I made the right choice.
Carrie: You think that I-- I should go to Rafe? But I'm carrying Austin's child.
Marlena: Listen to me. I'm not ever gonna tell you what you need to do. But I will say you have to be kinder to yourself. I've never seen you judge anybody the way you judge yourself. And it's my pleasure to break to you the news that you, my darling girl, are just human.
Carrie: [Crying] I know.
Marlena: And whatever you do, whatever path you choose, I'm always going to be here for you. And I'm always going to love you with my whole heart.
Hope: Let's put it in here. So what do you think? Do you think that's what happened? This guy targeted Gabi and snatched Melanie by mistake?
Bo: I don't know.
Hope: I know, sweetie. I know that must be a very scary thing to think about. But it might help us find Melanie.
Bo: Look, we need to know everything there is to know about this guy. Did you get the feeling that he was working with somebody else?
Hope: Do you think he had an accomplice?
Bo: Stalkers don't usually write the phone number of their victims down.
Gabi: I swear to you, I've told you everything I know about this guy.
Hope: You said you drew his attention when you were modeling for Countess Wilhelmina, right? Chad, Melanie did some modeling for Mad World, didn't she?
Chad: Yeah, a little. Why, you think that could be the connection?
Bo: It could be.
Hope: What are you thinking?
Bo: We're missing something here. Something that's staring us in the face.
Nicole: Oh, hold on. Daniel, I was hoping that Carly heard from Melanie, but the look on your face--I'm guessing no.
Daniel: No, I was just trying to calm her down. But I think she knew what I was thinking. I mean, the longer this goes on, the worse it is. I mean, this guy could have her anywhere. But I will find my daughter.
Melanie: I'm not kidding. There's natural gas in this tunnel. We're not safe down here!
Andrew: I mean, are we ever really safe anywhere?
Melanie: Are you joking? Do you want to die? We have to get out of here.
Andrew: No! We are not going anywhere until I am ready... until I know where we're going.
Melanie: You don't know where we're going?
Andrew: It doesn't really matter, does it? As long as we're together.
Melanie: It doesn't matter, 'cause there's no way in hell I'm ever going anywhere with you.
Austin: Hey. What's going on?
Carrie: I'm packing.
Austin: Wh-- are you leaving?
Carrie: We're leaving. We're leaving Salem, and we're going back to Switzerland.
Rafe: Daniel, I promise you, the whole department is mobilized. Everyone is doing everything that they can to find Melanie and to bring her home.
Daniel: Oh, I know. I know.
Rafe: Listen, I know it's a pain, but I'd really like to talk to you and go over all the details again.
Daniel: Uh, yeah.
Rafe: I just think that it's really important that we know exactly when she was taken, if you can remember when you talked to her last.
Daniel: I don't know. You know, it's hard to think.
Chad: So what do we do now?
Bo: Well, the lab will sweep the room, test this note with the numbers on it for fingerprints.
Gabi: "I've still got Melanie. I'm gonna keep her some place where no one will ever find her." Oh, my God, Melanie, what have I done?
Chad: So what do we do, huh? We just sit around and talk? The more time we waste, the further away this creep could be getting.
Hope: Chad, calm down. We're gonna find her.
Chad: That's not good enough! Okay, we have to go find her now.
Andrew: Let me point out the obvious. You're going with me. You don't have a choice.
Melanie: I'm not going anywhere!
Andrew: Stop it! All right, and you know what? You do have a choice. You can come with me willingly or not. But you're going with me, one way or the other!
