Will: I found what you've been hiding. I know that Stefano is not your father. You are not a DiMera.

EJ: I'm not a DiMera. [Sighs] I suggest you, uh--you get your facts straight before you start throwing around these wild accusations.

Will: Really?

EJ: Really. Because not only is your claim highly inaccurate... it is also quite insulting.

Will: You think I'm making this up?

EJ: I don't know what you're thinking, William. But I suggest you stop it. Now.

Will: No. See, what happens now is that I start using what I know to my advantage.

Chad: Glad I just have one more class today.

Gabi: Hm. Tired of being so smart?

Chad: No, just having a hard time concentrating on anything.

Gabi: Well, I mean, you've had a lot on your mind, with your dad and Lexie.

Chad: Melanie. We were supposed to watch the fireworks show tonight. Picnic in the park. And I wa--I was thinking I'd-- never mind.

Gabi: I'm sorry.

Chad: I can't believe she didn't call me back after I told her about Lexie. I mean, I know she's upset. I get it. But this is just so... so not her. Gabi, what if something happened to her? I can't lose her too. I-I can't.

[Door unlocks, opens]

Andrew: Don't even think about it. You're not going anywhere.

Melanie: Ever?

Rafe: Well, hi.

Carrie: Hi.

Rafe: I'm glad I ran into you, actually.

Carrie: Why is that?

Rafe: Uh... something happened. Want to tell you about it.

Carrie: Hmm.

Rafe: What?

Carrie: Oh, uh, I just have something that I wanted to tell you too.

EJ: William, whatever it is that you--you think that you know, you're wrong. You're making a very foolish mistake here.

Will: Oh, you think so?

EJ: Yeah, absolutely. I'd bet the house on it.

Will: Well, um... there was a letter... in, uh, here, that said that-- pretty bluntly, that Stefano wasn't your father. And if you don't believe me, you can, uh... [Sighs] Oops. Who's foolish now, Elvis?

EJ: You know, I suppose in a way, I should be rather impressed with your ability to stick your nose where it doesn't belong.

Will: [Chuckles] I just got lucky, that's all.

EJ: So, tell me something. What exactly is it that you intend on doing with this newfound, uh, luck?

Will: I could keep it a secret, uh, like you tried to do. And, uh, of course, Stefano is dead, so he's probably not gonna be telling anyone that... [Chuckles] He's not your father.

EJ: You're on very thin ice.

Will: [Chuckles]

EJ: Do you think this is funny?

Will: Uh, no. You're just acting like nothing has changed.

EJ: That is because nothing has changed, William.

Will: [Sighs] You know, information like this is, um... very dangerous. And if somehow it got out that Stefano knew he wasn't your father, and that's why he took you out of his will, then... I mean, could you imagine what people would think?

EJ: People, William, would think that it was wild speculation.

Will: Or, uh, an outstanding motive for murder.

EJ: Oh, I see. You're with them now, are you? You think I killed my father.

Will: Stefano wasn't your father.

EJ: He was my father in every way that mattered, and you would do well to remember that.

Will: Until he disowned you. And that's exactly what he did, right? At least that's how the police are gonna see it.

EJ: So, that's what you're planning to do, is it? You're going to give this little piece of paper to the police?

Will: [Chuckles] Is there any reason I shouldn't?

EJ: Why don't you and I just cut to the chase, William? What exactly is it that you want?

Andrew: I brought you the, uh--the newspapers and the magazines... in case you get bored.

Melanie: What's that?

Andrew: It's tea. It's herbal. To help keep you... calm. But be careful, it's hot.

Melanie: Why won't you just let me go? I just wanna go home.

Andrew: You know, I saw the, uh--the playlist on your phone. You and I actually like a lot of the same music. I can make you a mix if you want. No. All right.

Melanie: It's the Fourth of July?

Andrew: Yeah. Look, I'm sorry, but I guess you just won't be seeing any fireworks this year.

Melanie: Oh. I must have lost track of time down here. This is Chad's sister. I told you she was sick. She died? A couple days ago? They've already had the service? He must be devastated. Please, you have to let me go to him.

Andrew: Look, I-I can't.

Melanie: He lost his dad, he lost his sister, and he doesn't even know where I am! Please, you just have to let me go so I can be with him!

Andrew: No, I-- I can't. Okay? I'm sorry.

Carrie: You--no, you go first.

Rafe: No, Carrie--

Carrie: I want you to tell me first. You have something to say?

Rafe: Oh, just that I ran into Sami earlier. I got the feeling she laid into you pretty good.

Carrie: Marlena too. It was quite the scene.

[Both chuckle]

Rafe: I'll bet. Sami's got it in her head that, uh... the baby--it's mine.

Carrie: Oh. Rafe, I'm sorry. I-I told her that--that you couldn't be the father, that we never--

Rafe: No, that--yeah. So did I.

Carrie: Of course, she didn't believe me. [Laughs] And then she called me a liar and a hypocrite. But you know, I have to admit, part of me is wondering if she is partly right.

Rafe: What? No. She's not right. Listen, Carrie, you are neither of those things. And for the record, I warned her. I told her, I said, "Carrie's having a baby, she does not need you giving her grief and a hard time." All that stuff.

Carrie: [Laughs] Oh, I bet that went over well.

Rafe: Yeah... it probably made things worse, but--

Carrie: No. Things couldn't get much worse, really. She will always see me as the enemy, and I'm sorry that she took it out on you.

Rafe: Took it? What do you mean?

Carrie: Well, accusing you of being the father, when there's no possible way that you could be. I mean, there's only one reason that she did that, and that was to hurt you.

Rafe: Right.

Will: You know, I'm not here to make a trade with you.

EJ: That's how this works, William. You see, I give you what you want, and in return, you give me what I want.

Will: Uh, well, you're half-right. See, I'm gonna get what I want. But, uh--[Chuckles] I mean, I'm not gonna give you the letter. Because if I do, then there'll be nothing to stop you from going back on your word. Right? See, what I have is called "leverage." And you don't give that up. You know who taught me that. That was you.

Carrie: Well, if Sami already thinks you're having a baby with Nicole, her second-least- favorite person in the world, after me, of course-- but, uh, when she heard I was pregnant, I'm sure her head nearly exploded.

Rafe: You know what? I don't really care what Sami thinks anymore. You know the truth. All that matters.

Carrie: I'm glad you told me that Nicole's baby is EJ's.

Rafe: Yeah, yes. Wish I'd have told you sooner. Then maybe if I had, things-- been a complicated last few months, hasn't it?

[Both laugh]

Carrie: That's one way of putting it.

Rafe: Lot of misunderstanding’s.

Carrie: You really think that's all there is to it?

Rafe: Well, there was... a few things we didn't see coming.

Melanie: So, you're gonna hide behind that mask like a coward the entire time?

Andrew: That's enough! Listen, you keep pushing me, and you're gonna make me mad.

Melanie: I just wanna know what you're planning on doing with me!

Andrew: Stop asking me questions, and drink.

Gabi: Chad, you are a great guy, okay, and any girl would love to be treated the way that you treated Melanie. You guys had a fight. So what? Couples fight. But she should be here for you. I mean, you just lost your dad and your sister. She shouldn't be out there punishing you. It's not right.

Chad: It wasn't right for me to blame Will for killing my father. I should've known that he was innocent, Gabi. Melanie did.

Gabi: But you apologized, like, a million times. I mean, it's not your fault that she didn't wanna hear it.

[Cell phone rings]

Chad: Who's that?

Gabi: Um... it's nothing. It's--

Chad: Come on, it's not that creep who's been stalking you, is it?

[Phone ringing]

Melanie: Oh, um...

Andrew: Argh!

Melanie: No, no, no, no!

[Both struggling]

EJ: William, I'm not really in the mood to indulge you in these juvenile games that you're playing.

Will: Okay, well... if you're not gonna take me seriously, then, uh, I'll go.

EJ: Okay, why don't you just state your terms?

Will: I'm sorry?

EJ: [Laughs] [Sighs] Why don't you tell me what it is you want in exchange for keeping your mouth shut?

Will: Okay.

EJ: Okay?

Will: I would like my car and my apartment.

EJ: Car and apartment.

Will: [Chuckles] [Clears throat]

EJ: Is there anything else I can get for you, or are we finished?

Will: Uh, no. [Chuckles] Uh, let's see... uh, I would like a job. An official position within the company. A salary--a pretty nice one, 'cause the internship is over.

EJ: Okay. Are we done?

Will: Nope. Just getting started.

EJ: So, tell me, William, what else is there that you would like? You have a car, you have an apartment, now you have a job. What else would you like? Hmm?

Will: Well, you did teach me to value one thing above everything else.

EJ: Certainly wasn't loyalty.

Will: Nope. Um... [Chuckles] I want power.

Carrie: It's funny, I-I never thought it would be like this.

Rafe: What? What would?

Carrie: [Sighs] My life, you know? Being married, having a career, and about to have a baby. And then so many things unresolved, and to question some of the choices that I've made.

[Both chuckle]

Rafe: Right. Me too. Thought I had it all figured out. Yeah, uh... one day, it all changed. Next thing I knew, I was...

Carrie: Here?

Rafe: With you.

Chad: Gabi, I asked you a question.

Gabi: No. No, it was not my stalker. Actually, I have--I haven't heard from him since he put that dead rat in my salad. So gross.

Chad: Okay, then, who was it?

Gabi: My friend Mel--Megan. She wants to meet up.

Chad: Okay, uh, you know what? I don't think it's such a good idea for you to be walking off by yourself. Maybe I should just wait until she shows up.

Gabi: No, I can tell her to meet me at the bookstore.

Chad: But you have to get there.

Gabi: You know, actually, I think this guy has probably given up tormenting me. I mean, it's been forever since he tried anything. I think that probably getting the police involved scared him off.

Chad: Okay, I mean, maybe you're right. Maybe I-I, uh, think it's time for you to, uh... maybe move back into your old apartment.

Gabi: What?

Chad: Yeah, I mean, I--you know, it's-- [Sniffs] You probably miss living by yourself, and, uh, you know, in all honesty, I'm kind of a slob.

Gabi: No. No, you're perfect.

Chad: Well, come on, I'll walk you to the bookstore. Let's go. Grab your things.

EJ: Power.

Will: Mm-hmm.

EJ: So, that's what he wants. Power.

Will: Yeah. You surprised?

EJ: William, you can't just expect me to hand over DiMera Enterprises to you.

Will: That's not what I'm asking.

EJ: Then what are you asking? Would you like the deed to the house? Would you like the access numbers to my personal bank account?

Will: [Chuckles] No. That's not what I'm talking about by "power," and you know that. I mean, I don't want property, I don't want stocks, I don't want cash, whatever. Those are nice benefits, but I-- real power is the--the ability to be in control. You know? The ability to make something happen because you want it to, and because you can. And power is knowing that you have the fate of another person in your hands. And whatever happens to them is up to you.

EJ: That's how you're feeling right now, isn't it?

Will: Yeah. Feels pretty good.

Andrew: What the hell?

Chad: You son of a bitch!

Andrew: [Grunts]

Chad: Melanie. Melanie--Mel--Mel, wake up, sweetie, wake up. Wake up, look at me. Look at me, sweetie. Wake up. Mel. Come on, it's over, it's over.

Rafe: This is not fair. It's not fair to you, it's not fair to...the baby, Austin. It's-- you need to be focusing now on your family, not on--

Carrie: Things have just changed so much so fast, it's-- it's gonna take time to move on and figure out how to do that. You would think that it would be easy to try not to hurt the people that we love.

Rafe: Yeah. Well, I just wanted to say that I was sorry for Sami... even though I just did.

Carrie: [Laughs] Yeah, but like I said, I'm used to it.

Rafe: Yeah. You'd think we'd both be by now.

Carrie: Well, I have a couple years on you there.

Rafe: Well, hopefully it doesn't happen again, right?

Carrie: This is Sami we're talking about.

Rafe: That's a good point.

Carrie: [Laughs]

Rafe: I should get going.

Carrie: Oh, Rafe, um, there's still something that I have to tell you.

Chad: Mel. Melanie.

Melanie: Chad. Oh, you found me.

Gabi: I got your text. What is it that you want this time?

Andrew: Well, hello, moody. What's wrong with you? Not getting any from Melanie's boyfriend?

Gabi: Shut up, don't call him that.

Andrew: Sorry.

Gabi: Look, Andrew, we had an agreement, okay? I contact you, not the other way around.

Andrew: Yeah, well, I hadn't heard from you in a while.

Gabi: Well, there--there's a reason for that.

Andrew: I just thought you might want to know I figured out what your stalker is gonna do next, like you asked.

EJ: I'm sorry, William, but that kind of power... it can't just be handed to you. Doesn't matter what you're holding over somebody's head.

Will: You know, I-I know that I have a lot to learn.

EJ: Good.

Will: But... I--[Chuckles] I was doing something with my life, and I had a chance to be somebody, and then you took that away from me.

EJ: I'm not entirely sure that I see it that way, William, but go on. Tell me. Who did you think that you would be?

Will: Um... you. I want to be you.

EJ: Well, I'm flattered. But how did you ever expect that to happen, William?

Will: Well, just... you know what you could do? Make me your right-hand man. Okay? 'Cause I wanna know what you do, I wanna know how you do it, I wanna know why you do it.

EJ: [Laughs] You really are your mother's son, aren't you?

Will: Look, this isn't about her, okay? I said I want to be like you, and I'm gonna do what it takes to make sure that happens.

EJ: William... I can't give you what you want.

Will: [Chuckles] Why not?

EJ: Though your ambitions are admirable... William, at your--at your core, you're not me. You're not a DiMera.

Will: You're not a DiMera. You're a nobody. Same as me. [Laughs] Oh, can you think of the--the irony?

EJ: The irony?

Will: Yeah. The DiMera Empire being run by two people without a drop of DiMera blood in 'em. [Laughs] I mean, can you think of a better way to get back at Stefano for what he did to you?

Gabi: So, tell me. What have you come up with?

Andrew: A couple of different options. It just kind of all depends. [Chuckles]

Gabi: On?

Andrew: On how far you are willing to take this.

Gabi: Well, you know what I don't want. No physical attacks, and no dead rats.

Andrew: No, I got that. You don't have to keep reminding me. I'll just say this, though, your reaction to the rat was... [Laughs] Perfect.

Gabi: I said no, all right? Okay, just do something simple.

Andrew: Okay, all right.

Gabi: Just do, like, another gift, like dead flowers, or a picture with a target on my face, something like that.

Andrew: Come on, that's so boring. All right, all right, whatever, it's your call. Just give me a few days.

Gabi: No, it has to happen now. It can't wait, it has to happen today.

Andrew: Why? Why are you in such a hurry? What's the rush?

Carrie: Uh, before I ran into you, I was at the hospital with Austin.

Rafe: The hospital? Is everything okay? Is the baby all right?

Carrie: Uh, the baby's fine. We had a sonogram, and we heard the heartbeat, and it was... I mean, so fast. It was so real.

Rafe: Yeah.

Carrie: It was an amazing sound.

Rafe: I'll bet. Hey. You should be happy right now. You've got a healthy baby.

Carrie: I know, I know. [Whimpers] Oh, God. I can't do this.

Rafe: Do what?

Carrie: This. This, whatever this is with us, I can't do it anymore. You're right, it's not fair... to you, to me, to Austin. This baby. It's Austin's baby. And that's why if I see you anywhere, I'm gonna just turn around, I'm gonna move, because I have to. I have no idea how to do this.

Melanie: I was so scared. I didn't think you would ever find me.

Chad: Well, of course I would. You're my whole life.

Melanie: Yeah, but I was here all by myself, except for that guy that threw me in here. Do you know who he is, or what he wants?

Chad: I have no idea. Okay, but whatever it is, he's not gonna get it. And if he ever comes near you again... he's a dead man.

Gabi: Well, Chad asked me if I'd heard from my stalker lately.

Andrew: And what did you say?

Gabi: I told him no, because I thought that it would be more dramatic when something did happen. But he didn't react the way I thought he would.

Andrew: What did he do?

Gabi: [Sighs] He said that if I didn't think I was in danger anymore, that I could-- I could move back into my old apartment, and--and I don't get that, because Melanie left him, and he would rather be alone than have me there with him.

Andrew: [Laughs] Wait, um, so, what you're telling me is that you've been living with Chad this entire time?

Gabi: Yeah, it was his idea, Andrew, I mean, he told me to move in so that he could protect me.

Andrew: And you still can't get him to make a move on you? [Laughs] Oh, man.

EJ: I would advise you to be very careful about what you say about my father.

Will: Why are you still calling him that?

EJ: Because he was, in every way to me. And don't you forget who you're dealing with.

Will: Otherwise what?

EJ: I protected you, William. I kept your little secr--

Will: No, you didn't! You used me.

EJ: Oh, I see, turnaround is fair play, is it? Hmm? So, now you get to use me... to better your little position in life. Do you really think it's gonna work?

Will: [Chuckles] Well, it is worth a shot.

EJ: It's worth a shot.

Will: So to speak, yeah.

EJ: I can make one...[Snaps] Quick phone call, and this entire situation ceases to exist.

Will: [Sighs] You know, I figured you were gonna go there... and threaten me.

EJ: It's not a threat, William, it's called "conflict resolution."

Will: Yeah, you won't do it.

EJ: Why is that? Think I'll miss you?

Will: You know, I do know a little bit about how you think. And that is why I have a backup plan.

EJ: [Groans] Don't say that. Please don't tell me you've actually thought this little power play of yours through, William.

Will: Yeah, the letter that-- that proves you're not Stefano's son--someone else has it now. So, if anything happens to me, uh, they have instructions to take it to the police.

EJ: Really?

Will: Yes.

EJ: Well, that is very original. William, you don't seriously believe that I think that this letter is anywhere other than on or about your person.

Will: Well, it would be smartest thing to do. And now you will not be able to find it.

EJ: I will find it, William, with resources that you cannot even begin to wrap your little head around.

Will: Really? 'Cause I gave it to a lawyer out of the phone book.

[Both chuckle]

EJ: Really?

Will: Yeah.

EJ: A lawyer from the phone book? My goodness.

Will: Yup. No paper trail, no search history on any computer or phone.

EJ: Do you remember the last time you tried to blackmail me? And let's not mince words, William, that is what this is.

Will: Yup, I remember.

EJ: Statute of limitations still hasn't expired.

Will: [Chuckles] Yeah, so you keep reminding me.

EJ: 20 years for attempted murder, William, is a very long time.

Will: Okay. Here. Call the police. We both know what will happen to you if you do.

Andrew: [Laughs]

Gabi: Stop laughing at me.

Andrew: Okay. I'm not. It's just the whole situation is kinda funny. You have to admit that.

Gabi: Oh, I thought this would be so much easier.

Andrew: Come on. Well, Melanie going out of town was the chance you'd been waiting for, huh?

Gabi: You know, Chad and I have so much history together, but the longer that Melanie's gone, the more he misses her, and what's worse is I could be running out of time to make him fall in love with me.

Andrew: I think you have more time than you realize.

Gabi: No, I don't, she could show up, she could call him any minute. I could go home, and she could be there!

Andrew: Gabi! That's not gonna happen.

Gabi: How do you know that, Andrew? You don't know anything.

Andrew: Just listen to me, okay? Hear what I am saying. Melanie is not going to be a problem.

Gabi: Andrew, why would you say that?

Andrew: Forget it, okay?

Gabi: No. What is it that you know that you're not telling me?

Rafe: Carrie... you sure about this? I mean, this--

Carrie: Please, don't do that again.

Rafe: No, I'm just saying, this is what you want to do? This is what you think is the right thing to do? If this is the right thing, it shouldn't be this hard.

Carrie: Stop.

Rafe: How can this be the right thing for everybody? Even Austin? What are you gonna do? You're gonna cross the street? You're gonna--you're not even gonna look at me? Huh? Carrie, listen, just listen.

Carrie: Stop. I said stop, please.

Rafe: Okay. Okay, I'm sorry. I'm s--

Carrie: [Sighs]

Rafe: Hey, I'm sorry, okay? You're right. You're right. You need to focus on your family and your baby. I want what's best for you, and so, uh... that's what I'm gonna do. I'm just gonna step aside.

Will: You know, if you tell the police that, uh, I shot you, I will go to prison.

EJ: Yes, you will.

Will: But then I'll tell them that you're not Stefano's son, and, um, that'll kinda be the beginning of the end for you. You know, you'll lose your status, your identity, your inheritance. Chad will be the only real DiMera left. [Laughs] And he doesn't want anything to do with the family business, so, I don't know, he'll probably just let it go.

EJ: [Chuckling] Well... you certainly think you have this all figured out, don't you?

Will: What's to figure out? [Chuckles] Except, I don't know, maybe your defense after you're arrested for Stefano's murder? You know, look, I-I know that you've made some self-destructive choices in your past, and, um, you know, your relationship with my mom is evidence to that, but I don't know, I kind of thought this would be a no-brainer. But I mean, it's your call, I guess. Oh... checkmate. What do you think?

Carrie: This can't happen again.

Rafe: I know.

Carrie: Say it. Please.

Rafe: Good-bye.

Carrie: Good-bye, Rafe.

Gabi: You're acting really weird.

Andrew: No, no, I'm not.

Gabi: Yeah, you're talking about Melanie not coming back like it's a fact or something.

Andrew: Well, nobody's heard from her, have they? So...

Gabi: What are you looking at? What is in that room?

Andrew: Nothing. It's just a darkroom. Come on, let's go.

Gabi: No, what is this?

Andrew: No, Gabi, do not--

Gabi: Oh, my God. What did you do? Andrew, answer me! What did you do to her?

Will: Great, so, we're on the same page. [Chuckles] Come on, I think this is, uh-- you know, this is a good thing. We've--we've taken our relationship to the next level. And I think this will be very rewarding for both of us. Happy Independence day to me. And just so we're clear... I own you now.
