Will: Oh, my God.
[Door opening, closing]
Austin: My wife. I'm so sorry I'm late.
Austin: Mwah. I had to talk to a student after class.
Carrie: That's okay, I'm not hungry anyway.
Austin: My love, you still have morning sickness? I thought that was all done. You know what? We'll talk to the doctor about it today at the appointment.
Carrie: Yeah, it's not morning sickness. It's Sami.
Rafe: Sami, you cannot just storm in here and interrupt me with personal stuff while I'm working on a case, all right?
Sami: I will leave you to your work as soon as you answer the question. How long have you known?
Rafe: Why do you care?
Sami: You made a point of telling me that Austin and Carrie were working things out, but you didn't tell me why.
Rafe: Well, it's not my place to tell you.
Rafe: Really, yeah.
Sami: Or is it because you didn't want me to know? Because Austin isn't the father. You are.
Nicole: Daniel. You're still here.
Daniel: You didn't want me to spend the night?
Nicole: No, no, no, it's-- it's not that, I just-- I didn't expect you to.
Daniel: I'll remember that next time.
Nicole: Next time.
EJ: Hello? Speaking. Where? Are you sure it's all there? Excellent. I'll send somebody to pick it up. What are you doing, William? I thought you, uh... would've finished that coding by now, William.
Will: Uh, not yet. I was just looking for my-- I had to get my phone just in case you needed me to, uh... do anything.
EJ: Actually, as it happens, there is something that I need you to do for me, William. If you'd be kind enough to go to this address. There is a package there. Just say that I sent you. He will give it to you. Do me a favor. Get back here as quickly as you can, will you? And look after it. It contains a substantial amount of money.
Will: Money in a package. That sounds shady.
EJ: It is shady, William. That's why I'm sending you. Do you have a problem with that?
Will: No. I'm just curious about the deal.
EJ: You shot me. So...I don't think you're in much of a position to be questioning my morality. Do you?
Will: I'm sorry. I guess I should thank you for keeping that secret... along with all of your other secrets.
EJ: I guess you should.
Will: And I know better than to... get on the wrong side of a DiMera.
Austin: I think that I know how Sami operates a little more than most people. So if you can't talk to me about it, who you gonna talk to?
Carrie: All right, I just didn't wanna upset you. Marlena and I went shopping for baby clothes, and Sami saw us.
Austin: Yeah, and let me guess. She didn't run up to you, throw her arms around you, and say, "congratulations"? Right?
Carrie: No. She said she thought that I didn't tell her I was pregnant because Rafe might be the father of the baby.
Rafe: I don't owe you any answers when it comes to Carrie's pregnancy, all right?
Sami: You do if you're the father.
Rafe: Really? I mean, where do you get this stuff?
Sami: You're not answering the question.
Rafe: Because it's a ridiculous question, okay? I am not the father of Carrie's baby because Carrie and I never slept together. Which I'm sure she told you.
Sami: Not even once?
Rafe: Carrie is married to Austin.
Sami: You were married to me when you kissed her.
Rafe: Oh, my God. You're gonna walk in here, you're gonna throw that in my face after you slept with EJ?
Sami: Oh, you have to stop pretending that you are so much better than me, because you're not!
Sami: The second we got separated, you threw yourself into bed with Nicole, you got her pregnant, and now you're two for two!
Nicole: I'm happy you're here. I'm happy you stayed the night. I, um-- you know, I just--I haven't-- I haven't shared my bed with a man since EJ.
Daniel: You mean-- you mean, you and Rafe...
Daniel: Really never--
Nicole: Oh, gosh, you-- you thought that--
Daniel: Well, yeah.
Nicole: No, no, no, no. Rafe--Rafe--he just... spent a lotta time with me when I first learned that I was pregnant, which is what EJ walked in on and why he assumed we slept together.
Daniel: I see, okay.
Nicole: And now... Rafe is up to his eyeballs in my mess, and...
Daniel: [Scoffs] Yeah.
Nicole: So are you.
Daniel: Well, you know, we've managed to, um, you know, I'd say, make the best of a, um, bad situation here.
Nicole: Yeah, we have.
Daniel: You know, there's another nice advantage of actually waking up together, I've discovered.
Nicole: Oh? What's that?
Rafe: You know, you got some nerve, coming in here and throwing Nicole in my face.
Sami: You have some nerve throwing yourself on top of her.
Rafe: Oh, get out. You know what, stop it. Just stop acting like you're the victim here because you're not. Nicole and I were the ones that were hurt by what you and EJ did, for the record.
Sami: I made a terrible mistake.
Sami: I know that. But I honestly believe we could've found a way to work through it. We could've found a way... to save our marriage and our family.
Rafe: Yeah, maybe we could've, maybe. Maybe if you'd have told me that you slept with EJ when you did.
Sami: Or maybe if you hadn't have wanted to end our marriage so that you could be with Carrie.
Austin: Where does Sami come up with this stuff? And why now? I mean, isn't she happy that her and Lucas are together?
Carrie: Well, Sami's never happy. She takes it out on everyone else. She's still blaming me for her marriage to Rafe breaking up. Like her sleeping with EJ had nothing to do with it.
Austin: Right, exactly. And she can't take responsibility for her own actions, so she blames other people. And... our marriage survived. Hers didn't. You know what that means?
Austin: That means that you are right at the top of Sami's imaginary enemies list.
Carrie: In fairness to Sami, she didn't imagine that it is partly my fault. What happened with Rafe never should've.
Austin: Come here. If you and I can get past this, then Sami can too... someday.
Carrie: It's not okay. I let you down.
Austin: We both made mistakes.
Carrie: It started with Rafe and me. And I need--
Carrie: I need you to know that I never slept with Rafe.
Daniel: All right. My head almost blew off. You're right.
Nicole: Yeah, I told you. Oh, my goodness. Doctor makes house calls. I am a happy patient.
Daniel: I'm a happy doctor. But you gotta be honest with me. That was the, uh-- oh, my God. It was the lab coat, right? Is that right?
Nicole: Definitely the lab coat.
Daniel: It works every time. Oh, my God.
Nicole: Um...if you have to get going to the hospital, it's fine. Cuddling afterward is totally overrated.
Daniel: You know what? Um... I tell you what. Today is my day off. And I--here's my plan... after I catch my breath. We will--we get dressed, and I take you out for brunch at Chez Rouge.
Nicole: You wanna... take me to Salem's best restaurant for breakfast?
Daniel: Actually, with those prices, it's called brunch. Brunch.
Nicole: Well, I, um-- come on, we can just go to the Brady Pub. Or that diner off Route 7.
Daniel: What? I'm not taking you to any diner. A diner? You? No.
Nicole: What? My mom worked in a diner, you know.
Daniel: Exactly. As Victor implied, you have come to appreciate the finer things in life.
Nicole: He called me a gold digger, didn't he?
Daniel: He did. Yeah, among other things, he called--yeah, he did.
Nicole: Yeah, all right. Well, I'm not a gold digger. Not anymore. And if I was, you are lucky that I am pregnant. Because the tab for that champagne at brunch would cost more than you make in a week.
Nicole: You're lucky.
Daniel: Maybe we better skip brunch a minute.
EJ: As my father's heir, I'm able to run the DiMera Empire as I see fit, William. And your job is to do what I want when I want it... whether you want to or not.
Will: Oh, I know. You don't need to remind me.
EJ: Good. Off you go.
Will: I do think, however, that I could help you more if I knew more.
EJ: William... [Clears throat] The less that you know, the less you ask, the more productive this little relationship is going to be.
Will: Hmm. That's not very nice.
EJ: You should be grateful for this, um, opportunity to be able to watch, to learn.
Will: Oh, I am, trust me. I've learned, uh, quite a bit actually--more than I thought I would.
EJ: You may have watched a few plays, William, but you would do well to remember that you have no idea how or when to execute them.
Will: Hmm. I guess I can always hope that things will change sooner or later.
EJ: A little bit of hope, William, is a very dangerous thing. Off you go.
Nicole: So... you asked Victor about me?
Daniel: Uh, no, no. It was more like a comment or two he made in passing.
Nicole: Oh. You know, Victor's not alone. There are a lot of people who don't have nice things to say about me.
Daniel: Oh, yeah?
Daniel: Does that bother you?
Nicole: I've done some things I regret.
Daniel: Well, you know, who hasn't? I mean, come on.
Nicole: I'm just saying... when pushed to the wall, I do what I have to to survive.
Daniel: Yeah, like relabeling the paternity test samples, right? Making EJ's baby now Rafe's. But you know what? Manipulating a paternity test is easy compared to raising a child alone.
Nicole: What's your point?
Daniel: My point is, are you sure you're ready to do this? You won't have any regrets?
Nicole: No. I don't want my child raised as a DiMera. The bottom line is it will not be easy... being a single parent. But I will make it happen. I always do. And, uh, maybe someday, I don't know...I'll, uh, find someone who will help me.
Daniel: Mm. Maybe.
Nicole: But I tell you what I won't do. I am not going to make the same mistakes with men that I have in the past. Because if I screw up, not-- I'm not just hurting myself, I'm hurting my kid and that is not an option.
Daniel: You know what? I don't think he or she has to worry about that. Because you, you have already proven that you will stop at nothing to protect your baby.
Austin: I know that you didn't sleep with Rafe. And it's okay. You and I are okay.
Carrie: I love you for having faith in me, but I'm not sure that I deserve it.
Austin: Why not?
Carrie: When Rafe and I started working together, we did start to have feelings for each other.
Austin: Mm-hmm. I'm well aware of that.
Carrie: Feelings that... I hid from you before Rafe and I kissed.
Austin: And that was-- that was both of our faults.
Carrie: How can you say that?
Austin: I can say it because, Carrie, our marriage was on shaky ground. It wasn't just you, it was for things that both of us did.
Carrie: I'm just not sure that I deserve your forgiveness.
Austin: Why is that? Wow. It's because you still have feelings for Rafe, isn't it?
Rafe: Why are you dredging this up now? What happened with me and Carr-- Sami, what's the point? Our marriage-- it's-- it's over, right? I mean, you're-- evidently, you're with Lucas now, so... I just don't see the point in having this argu--
Sami: If you're gonna blame our failed marriage on me...
Rafe: Been there, done that.
Sami: Then I wanna at least hear you say... that you had a part in it.
Rafe: Okay. Okay, if, um... that's what it's gonna take to get you outta here, then--
Sami: You just gotta say it.
Rafe: All right, well, when Carrie and I started working together... I started to have feelings for her. It was wrong. I feel terrible about it, and... I'm sorry.
Sami: That's it?
Rafe: That's it. That's it. What do you want from me, all right? Carrie and Austin--they're together now, okay?
Sami: You, um-- you really aren't the father of her baby?
Rafe: No, no, I am not, okay? I never got her pregnant.
EJ: Is that so?
EJ: Well, that's very interesting, considering that a paternity test names you as the father of Nicole's baby. Maybe you'd like to clarify that comment for me. Or better yet, you could just admit that you are a part of this cover-up.
Rafe: That's a good try. I was talking about Carrie.
Rafe: Not Nicole.
EJ: Wow, well, my people must really be letting me down. So you slept with Carrie as well as Nicole?
Rafe: I did not sleep with Carrie. Okay, you know what? You, out. I have work to do. Okay. Say it again. EJ is here on police business, and we are done talking about my personal life.
EJ: I'm not finished talking about your personal life.
EJ: No, not while you keep claiming to be the father of a child that I know is mine.
Daniel: Yes. Of course it is a compliment. Look, look. When Chloe lied to me about Parker's paternity, I--she, uh-- I think she was protecting herself. But this thing you're doing here, this is all about your kid.
Nicole: Oh, I don't know. Yeah, there's-- there's something about getting away from EJ that has its benefits. Gosh, you know, I have been alone all my life. I am-- I am self-sufficient.
Daniel: You're damn right you are. Don't you forget that.
Nicole: I won't. But, Daniel, I mean, we both know that getting together from a rebound is just asking for trouble.
Daniel: And we both know we like trouble.
Nicole: [Laughs] Yeah.
Daniel: Yeah, you know what, I've--I'm done. I've decided I'm done with that.
Nicole: Oh, yeah?
Nicole: Okay, is that why we're here having brunch... after a date that started yesterday?
Daniel: All right, yeah. Well, you know, define "date." Right?
Nicole: [Clears throat] Can I ask you something? Um...
Daniel: Hmm? Yeah.
Nicole: Why do you get involved with all your patients? I mean, your wife... Chelsea, Kate, Chloe. Am I missing someone? Oh, Jennifer.
Daniel: Yeah, you know, I think I was just going through a phase.
Nicole: "Phase"? Ha! Sorry. That's a crock.
Daniel: You're not buying that?
Nicole: No, I'm not.
Daniel: Okay. Yeah, "phase" was a little lame. Um...
Daniel: Yeah. You know, I guess at the time, I just--I didn't want anything complicated.
Daniel: And of course, in the end, that's exactly what I got, you know.
Nicole: Oh, my goodness.
Nicole: You still don't get it. If you did get it, you wouldn't be sleeping with me.
Austin: And if you think that I like sitting here, hearing that you have feelings for another man, you're absolutely wrong. But if I didn't think that you were gonna get over them, Carrie, I assure you I wouldn't be sitting at the other end of this table right now.
Carrie: So we're okay?
Austin: We're better than okay. We're good. And... if we don't get outta here right now, we're gonna be late for the doctor's appointment. So let's go.
Carrie: Oh, wait, Austin. Please, I just-- I just wanna say thank you for understanding. And I love you.
Austin: We put so much time into this marriage, and now we are having a family. And as long as we just try and as long as we never give up, Carrie, we're gonna make it. And I promise you... I am gonna make you the happiest wife and mother on the planet. I love you. Oh, boy. Let's go.
Rafe: Well, as I recall, you're the one who insisted that Nicole have the paternity test and, well, lo and behold, turns out I'm the father. So...you can go on with your conspiracy theories or whatever it is, but I'm done debating the truth. Sami? We're done too, okay? Now, I am glad that you saw the light. Come with me and we'll get you set up to take this lie detector test.
EJ: Oh, I'm not here to take a test. I'm here to discuss your department's budget with Roman.
Rafe: Roman's not here. So...you can go ahead and take the test and... you'll still be on time for your next meeting.
EJ: You know, it's frustrating that you are continuing to waste your department's time and resources pursuing me as a suspect when the real killer is still out there.
Rafe: Well, actually you're the one who is wasting our department's time, money, resources. So why don't you just go take the test and get the truth out there?
EJ: I'm gonna tell you something for the last time. I have no reason to want my father dead, and you have not one shred of evidence that links me to his murder.
Will: Hey, what's up? How you doing? Oh, my gosh. Great day or what?
Sonny: Yeah, yeah, so far.
Will: So what are you-- uh, you wanna-- are you hungry? Grab a bite? I'll treat.
Sonny: Yeah. I mean, if it's free food, I can't turn that down.
Will: Seriously, get whatever you want.
Sonny: Why are you so jazzed up right now? Did you win the lottery? Because if you did, I want half of it right now.
Will: No, not yet. But, um, I'm going to.
Daniel: Well, you know-- you know, you're really not my patient anymore.
Nicole: Mm-hmm. Technically.
Daniel: Yeah, and I've-- I've also learned from my mistakes with other women, so, yeah.
Nicole: Oh, good. So you're out of your, um, complicated phase then?
Daniel: Oh, yeah, yeah.
Nicole: Oh, yeah, yeah.
Daniel: Well, I mean-- I, you know--
Nicole: Mm-hmm. Rafe-- Rafe is pretending to be the father of my baby while EJ really is, and that's gonna last because you let me get away with changing the DNA samples. Which I still can't believe you did for me.
Daniel: Yeah, neither can I. I mean, sheesh. [Sighs]
Nicole: You know, I'm not that horrible person that people say I am.
Daniel: No, I didn't say you were.
Nicole: Okay, so what do you mean? Because if I was that horrible person, you wouldn't be sleeping with me, would you? Would you?
Daniel: You know, our, um-- our sleeping together-- we may have crossed a line we shouldn't have.
Nicole: Well, if we did, do you regret it?
Daniel: No, I don't. But when we crossed that line is when this thing here got complicated.
Nicole: You know what I think? I think you like complicated.
Rafe: Well, EJ left. Now it's your turn. I have work to do.
Sami: EJ's the prime suspect, huh?
Rafe: At least you're closer to the door. And as for EJ, you know I cannot discuss police business with you.
Sami: Well, uh, let me just tell you what I think.
Rafe: I should've seen this one coming.
Sami: The night that Will was arrested, we were... really worried about him. That maybe EJ had forced him to do his dirty work for him.
Rafe: You mean murder Stefano? Why would you think that? How could EJ force Will to commit murder?
EJ: Oh, well, that's bloody wonderful! [Sighs] William. Where are you? I just learned you've yet to make that pick-up. So when you get this message, get that package, get back here, and you better have a bloody good excuse as to where you've been!
Sonny: Who was that?
Will: EJ. He just wanted me to do some-- I don't know, some errand or whatever. But I'm hungry, and, uh, I would rather hang out with you, so...
Sonny: Well, thank you, but, uh, you know, it's bad enough that you're mixed up with the DiMeras in the business. And now you're ignoring EJ? So if he wants you to do something, you should do it. You're gonna get yourself in trouble.
Sonny: I'm gonna have to bail you out.
Will: No, trust me, um, I'm going to handle my business with EJ.
Sonny: That's either really gutsy or really stupid. I haven't decided yet.
Will: You know what, either way, um, things are gonna be uh, very different between him and me from now on.
Sonny: Different how?
Will: Uh, trust me. They will be.
Austin: Look, just look! [Chuckling] It's our baby's first picture. She or he is gonna be so beautiful. Mwah!
Carrie: Oh! It just feels so real all of a sudden.
Austin: I know.
Carrie: Oh, I can't wait to hold our baby for the first time.
Austin: I can't either.
Sami: Will was... on, uh, EJ's payroll, you know. And we were always worried about the kinda things EJ was gonna make Will do.
Rafe: Mm-hmm. But then EJ fired Will and then posted his bail. Strange.
Sami: I agree.
Rafe: Right. And now Will's working for EJ again. That's gotta bother you.
Sami: Yes, it bothers me a lot. But you know Will. Anytime I try to tell him to do something, he runs in the opposite direction.
Rafe: Yeah. Listen, I just want you to know even though I'm not around you and the kids anymore... I still care about 'em.
Sami: I know you do.
Rafe: Maybe I should talk to Will... tell him to stay away from EJ.
Sami: Because EJ's a suspect in Stefano's murder.
Rafe: No comment.
Sami: I get it. But you wouldn't be asking EJ to take a polygraph if you didn't think he did it.
Rafe: No comment again.
Sami: It's just hard to believe, you know? I mean, after all the terrible things he's done, it's still... hard to think that he actually murdered his own father.
[Door opening, closing]
Will: I'm back!
EJ: Where have you been?
Will: Um...you sent me to run an errand, remember?
EJ: You were late meeting our contact.
Will: Oh, yeah, that's only because I, uh, stopped to eat.
EJ: Why didn't you stop to get a bite to eat after you picked up the package, William?
Will: I don't know. I guess I coulda done that, but I didn't.
EJ: Where is the package?
Will: What pa-- oh, yeah. That's right, I, um... totally forgot about it. My bad.
EJ: What's wrong with you?
Will: Sounds like you're about to tell me.
EJ: I'd be very careful if I were you, William. This little slip... could cost you quite some time in prison.
Will: I don't think I'm going to prison. I think I'm gonna go to the top if you stop holding me back.
EJ: You're either drunk... or you're high. Neither one of which is acceptable in my employ.
Will: You know, about being in your employ... I was, um, thinking that things need to change around here.
EJ: Do they?
Will: Yes, Elvis, they do. And I think they will. Because from now on, I will be calling the shots.
Rafe: My job is to find Stefano's killer... whoever he or she is. And your job is to stay out of police business and Carrie and Austin's life, okay?
Sami: You said you aren't the father of Carrie's baby, which means your feelings aren't involved in Carrie and Austin's marriage, and they're not involved in my relationship with my sister.
Rafe: Okay, wow, wow! I am not discussing this with you, all right? Listen, like I said before, just stay out of their business. Carrie, Austin, Will, EJ.... and me for that matter.
Nicole: Well, I-- I like spending time with you.
Daniel: Same here.
Nicole: And I agree. The sex is... incredible.
Daniel: Two for two.
Nicole: But can we not get ahead of ourselves?
Daniel: Sure. No, sure. What, uh--what does that mean to you?
Nicole: I just--I don't wanna put a name on it. 'Cause then we're gonna have expectations if we don't meet those expectations, then we're both gonna be disappointed and--
Daniel: Disappointed. No, I got it. I got it. What we have is good, whatever it is. So, yeah, why... mess it up by naming it, right?
Daniel: Okay, then. Well, I think, uh--think that about does it.
Nicole: Thank you for brunch and for last night. They were both... great.
Daniel: Yeah. My, um-- my pleasure.
Nicole: So, uh, I'll see you around.
Daniel: You count on it. Yeah.
Austin: You can have the portrait. And I'll see you later. Mwah!
Carrie: Austin, wait. I just wanna say thank you for understanding about Rafe and everything.
Austin: I love you. And I know you love me.
Carrie: I do. And I promise that I'm gonna show you that our marriage means as much to me as it does to you.
Austin: I already knew that. I'll call you later.
EJ: You're calling the shots? William's calling the shots. Seems to me, William, that you are suffering from delusions of grandeur.
Will: You know, I have learned a lot from you. And one of those things is that knowledge is power. And that is exactly how I know that things are gonna change around here.
EJ: Look, William. Whatever it is that you're so desperate to spit out, I suggest you just get on with it.
Will: I know the truth. I found what you've been hiding. I know that Stefano is not your father. You are not a DiMera.
