Marlena: Abe, the service was--was just lovely.
John: Saint Luke's was packed. I think half the town was there.
Abe: Yeah, so many people came up to me and told me everything that she did for them. Things she never told me she did.
Marlena: That was just her way.
Abe: Yeah. She did so much good. So much good in this world. Why her? You know, and she-- it shouldn't had been her time. I-- [Sighs] It's not right. It's just not right.
[Cell phone rings]
Jennifer: I wonder if Abe is really up for this.
Jack: Well, maybe he'd rather be around people than a big, lonely house.
Jennifer: Hey, are you okay?
Kayla: Um, yeah. It's, um, it's Steve. He's sending his condolences.
Jennifer: In a text?
Kayla: Well, I'm sure he'd be here in person if saving the world didn't come first.
Jack: I'm sure his heart's in the right place.
Jennifer: His heart should be here with you and your kids.
Jack: Yeah, I don't know what it is about-- Steve's and my gene pool. You know, it's Deveraux, Johnson background, but we both have this need to save the world. [Sighs] Fortunately, behavior can be modified. Maybe I can talk to him.
Kayla: No. Please don't. We have talked and talked. Our marriage is over.
Bo: You're kidding, right? Kay, what's going on here?
Johnny: Daddy. Daddy.
EJ: Oh. Ah, hi. Good to see you. Thank you for bringing them.
Sami: Lexie should have her whole family with her.
Johnny: Aunt Lexie fixed my eyes.
EJ: Yes, she did. She loved you both very much.
Sydney: When is she coming back?
EJ: She's--she's not coming back, sweetheart.
Johnny: But she's with Nana.
EJ: Yes, she's with Nana.
Johnny: Are you sad, Daddy?
EJ: Yes, very sad. That's why I'm grateful to have you here.
Daniel: Hey. What are you-- what are you doing here so late? Is everything okay with the baby?
Nicole: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Every--everything's fine. I was just taking a tour of the labor and delivery floor.
Daniel: Okay. Good. Yeah.
Nicole: I thought you were at...Lexie's service.
Daniel: Yeah, I was, but I had to-- I just had to come back and check on a patient.
Nicole: Okay, well, I'll let you go.
Daniel: Okay, well, you know, everything's okay now. I'm just--I don't know. I'm gonna go grab some dinner. Have you eaten?
Nicole: You're not going to the thing at Chez Rouge?
Daniel: [Laughs] Okay, full disclosure? I didn't really come here to check on a patient. I just said that because-- I don't know, that funeral's about all I could handle, really.
Nicole: Because Lexie was a good friend.
Daniel: Yeah, and because, you know, my first wife died right before she should have. And you know, funerals and memorial services-- they just-- [Sighs] I don't know. I just--I go back to that same day, and--
Nicole: I understand.
Nicole: I'm sorry.
Daniel: So what about dinner? Hmm?
Nicole: Daniel, you don't have to do that.
Daniel: What? Do what?
Nicole: You don't have to take me to dinner because we slept together, okay? And as far as I'm concerned, we could just pretend this never happened.
Daniel: Sure. Yeah. If that's what you want.
Theo: My cousins are here.
Celeste: Let's go see them.
Cameron: Hi. Good to see some familiar faces.
Chad: How's Theo doing?
Cameron: Well... hard to tell. You know, kids on the spectrum, they're kind of--they disconnect from their feelings sometimes.
Chad: Well, Lexie made me promise to be a real uncle to him, and I plan to make good on that promise.
Cameron: She said the same thing to me. And she hardly knew me.
Abigail: I don't think she had to know you long to know that Theo is so lucky to have you in his life.
Cameron: Everyone here, they knew my sister better than I did.
Gabi: Well, they're all going to want to get to know you now.
Chad: And tell you about her.
Abe: Yeah, yeah. You know, maybe that's what this party should be all about.
John: Telling the old stories again?
Marlena: Acquainting Cameron with a sister he barely knew.
Abe: Yeah. I think she'd really like that.
Marlena: Thank you.
John: Mm-hmm. There you go, sweetheart.
Cameron: So, how did you and Lexie meet?
Abe: Working on the police force before she went to med school. You know, she was a police officer.
Cameron: Yeah, but hard to imagine my Prada-loving sister in a uniform, hat, and gun.
Abe: Yeah, I know, right? She rocked that uniform.
Marlena: Yes, she did.
Cameron: That she did.
Marlena: It was a rough time to be on the police force. Crime was spiking in Salem then.
Abe: Yeah, the police force wasn't doing things fast enough for Lexie. And she was frustrated and felt her hands were tied too often, so she and my brother decided they could be more effective going outside the system.
Chad: Are you kidding me? She went rogue?
Marlena: It drove Lexie crazy to see some criminals going free on a technicality.
Gabi: Wait, she nailed these guys herself?
John: Well, she and Jonah. That's Abraham's brother. Hell, they even had a handle, didn't they?
Abe: Yeah, people called them the pacifier.
Cameron: Get out.
Gabi: That is awesome.
Marlena: Well, that was wrong. Lexie knew that.
John: Well, Lexie didn't know she was a DiMera back then. But there was something about that girl, just didn't like playing by the rules.
Marlena: Well, she went outside the law for the greater good.
Marlena: She believed very strongly in doing that.
Lexie: I'm the pacifier.
Lexie: I know that sounds crazy. I'm a cop. I'm married to a cop, and I take the law into my own hands.
Marlena: But why would you do that?
Lexie: Because I was sick of criminals walking for lack of evidence. Neighborhoods being taken over by drug dealers and--and addicts. Drive-by shootings, innocent people getting hurt. Especially Abe.
Abe: She was finally caught. And it was up to me to fire her from the police force.
Chad: That must have sucked.
Abe: Yeah, well, it did. That's fine. You know, I finagled a way to get her reinstated. She turned me down.
Cameron: She turned you down?
Abe: Well, she--she said she wanted to find a different way to help people.
Cameron: So--so she went to med school.
Abe: Well, Dr. Horton was her mentor, and she graduated at the top of her class.
Marlena: Well, she never did much halfway, did she?
Abe: [Laughs] Never, no.
EJ: Lucas and William not coming?
Sami: Allie was getting tired, so they took her home. You looking to find Will? You have an errand for him?
EJ: Could we just please not start that tonight?
Sami: What would Lexie think about what you're doing?
EJ: Can you just please leave it alone for one evening, Samantha? Can we just agree to call a truce, okay? I'll go first.
Nicole: I didn't mean to put you on the spot. Okay, you don't owe me. You don't owe me anything.
Daniel: And what if I just wanted to get to know you better?
Nicole: You were married to Chloe. I was her best friend. When she slept with Philip, I helped her hide that from you. Look, and when EJ tried to kill me, I holed up in your apartment. That's who I am. Hmm.
Daniel: No, those are just details. But that night while I was sitting with you...
Nicole: Very reluctantly, as I recall.
Daniel: You told me what it was like when you had a miscarriage. And it occurred to me that maybe I didn't know you quite as well as I thought I did.
Nicole: All right, look. I know that you just came from the funeral, and you don't want to go home to an empty apartment, but please, don't make me out to be someone that I'm not.
Daniel: Look, I am just talking about dinner.
Nicole: Okay. Fine. You're buying.
Daniel: Do you have to be so difficult?
Nicole: I'm pretty sure I made things pretty easy over there on that desk.
Daniel: Yeah, that's what I'm talking about right there. Exactly.
Nicole: Yeah, well, what you see is what you get. You think you can handle that?
Daniel: Hmm. I'll try.
Nicole: How about this? I don't like Indian food. And Mexican food gives me heartburn every since I got pregnant.
Bo: I'm not liking this.
Hope: Why didn't you say something when you first came back?
Kayla: I just thought I needed some time to sort through it all, you know? I just wanted to be behind the bar, help mom, and think. And to tell you the truth, I think that I was just waiting and hoping that he would call me to tell me he changed his mind.
Bo: If that's what you were hoping for, Kay, what-- how can you say your marriage is over?
Kayla: I never said that.
Bo: Yeah. Yeah, he's my best friend. Can't believe he's treating you like this.
Hope: Wait-- maybe--maybe he's going through midlife crisis? I mean, hopefully, maybe-- he's got to come to his senses.
Bo: Yeah. He will when I get through with him.
Kayla: Don't. It's over. We're filing a divorce.
Bo: Really? I'm sorry. You deserve better than this.
Sami: EJ, this may come as a shock to you, but I don't want to make a scene at Lexie's memorial service.
EJ: Thank you.
Sami: How are you doing?
EJ: Finding the whole thing rather difficult, to be honest.
Sami: It happened really fast.
EJ: Yeah. It did. I just keep waiting for the phone call.
Sami: What call?
EJ: Oh. If I hadn't spoken to her a few days, she would call and leave a message. "I haven't heard from you for a while. Are you okay? I hope you're not doing anything illegal or monumentally stupid." But of course, usually, I probably was. Every time the phone rings, I think it's her.
Sami: She loved you. And she was proud of you. And she knew what a wonderful father you are.
EJ: Think so?
Sami: I know so.
Marlena: No, as I recall, you weren't so crazy about her going to med school.
Abe: Well, I was proud of her.
Abe: I-- I was just afraid that I'd never see her again.
John: Yeah, but you finally came around.
Bo: Came around? He was her biggest fan. Flags and all.
Lexie: Work is important to us, but we got to keep our goals in perspective.
Abe: You know, I think my goals are in perspective.
Abe: Yeah. To love you, to love that family we're going to have. You still want to have a family, don't you?
Lexie: Oh, honey, more than ever. As soon as I finish my studies which by the way, I'm not going to be able to finish if I don't start studying.
Abe: Oh, oh, okay. Look, I'll help. [Laughs] She just sailed through med school, and then she finished her residency in no time. She finally found the thing that she was born to do.
Hope: She was an amazing doctor.
Kayla: And she was the best chief of staff I ever had.
Abe: If only she could've found a way to beat this.
Jennifer: Abe, it didn't exist. She--she would have found it. She would have done everything to stay with you and Theo. You know that, all of our lives are going to be so completely different without Lex.
Nicole: So you're not drinking? Are you on call?
Nicole: Nope? Hmm. Did you take some kind of pledge? [Chuckles] So, why don't you have some kind of drink or a glass of wine or something?
Daniel: Thought it would be easier for you if I didn't.
Daniel: Hey, nine months is a long time. And I know you used to enjoy a cocktail every now and then.
Nicole: By every now and again, did you mean, all the time? Oh, come on. Daniel. Really, this baby means more to me than that. Now, don't get me wrong. It's not like I'm not going to have a martini shaker in my suitcase the day I deliver, but you can have a drink. I'll live vicariously through you.
Daniel: I'm fine.
Nicole: Well, here I am. Sitting here with you, sober. And I'm actually not having a bad time.
Daniel: You sound surprised about that.
Nicole: Well, you know, it could have gone either way. You know.
Daniel: Hey, hey.
Nicole: Well, it's not like you're good-looking or anything, you know. And you can be charming when you want to be.
Nicole: But normally, I'M... usually attracted to men who are a little less... [Clears throat] Predictable.
Daniel: Predictable, how?
Nicole: Okay. How's this? If it's sick, you cure it. If it's not sick, you act superior to it. And if it moves and wears a dress, you sleep with it. How's that? That was perfect.
Daniel: Excuse me.
Nicole: What? Wait, wait. Where you going?
Daniel: No, you know. I'm just gonna live in the moment here. Yeah, did I tell you I was a guitar virtuoso? Did I mention that?
Daniel: I did not?
Nicole: No, you--
Daniel: [Strums guitar] Well, let me just...
Daniel: Start with a little... [Strums guitar] Sole mio, you know, and then I'm gonna just segue on down to a little Bad, Bad Leroy Brown.
Nicole: Stop, stop, stop.
Daniel: You ready? Watch this.
Nicole: You're going to hurt yourself, okay? People are looking. Stop.
Daniel: Oh, okay. Walking away.
Nicole: [Clears throat] So are you really a guitar virtuoso?
Daniel: Guitar? Uh, no way. No. But I think I proved to you that I'm not predictable.
Abe: And when she told me that we were going to have a baby, that was one of the happiest days of my life.
Lexie: Something happened today, and it happened after we decided to try again. I think it's a sign, Abe. No, no. No, no, no. It's more than a sign. It's a gift. I wanted so badly for it to happen that I let it come between us. And the moment that I was willing to just let it go, it happened.
Abe: [Laughs] Come on. Just tell me, will you?
Lexie: Honey, we're having a baby! [Laughs]
Hope: Thank goodness you have Theo. He's a very special little guy.
Kayla: That's for sure.
Abe: Yeah, he's got so much of Lexie in him.
Sami: EJ, why don't you go talk to Abe? Everybody?
EJ: Oh, I'm a persona non grata with your family. Don't let me intrude. Go ahead.
Sami: Oh, no. I--I'll hang back here. Not because of you.
EJ: No, of course.
Sami: You know, it's just that Lexie and I weren't exactly tight, you know? I mean, I wanted the kids to be here for her obviously. But-- yes, she didn't get along with me very well.
EJ: I didn't think things were that bad.
Sami: Well, it was a long time ago. But, oh, yeah. She--she hated my guts, and I gave her a pretty good reason to.
Lexie: Brandon and I share a bond that you will never break. And I'm going to make it my solemn duty as his friend to see to it that one day very soon, he sees you as the person you really are and kicks you out on your butt.
Sami: [Screams] You little bitch, I'll kill you! Hey, she's one of the few people who actually gets credited with beating me at my own game.
EJ: Really? That's saying something. You're hardly an amateur when it comes to lying and scheming.
Sami: Thank goodness. Otherwise, I never would have survived being married to you. You know, that was a long time ago. Lexie and I moved on. And, you know, she helped Johnny. When I was sick last year, she went out of her way to help me. She didn't--she didn't have to do that.
EJ: You know what she always used to say to me? She used to say, "if you and Sami stop trying to destroy one another, you could actually make each other happier than you've ever been." Can you imagine?
Sami: [Laughs] [Clears throat]
Abigail: When I get married, I hope to have a marriage just like yours and Lexie's.
Jack: What? You don't want to be like your mother and me?
Abigail: You? No.
Abe: Hey, hey, look, look. Look, look. It wasn't smooth sailing for Lexie and me either.
Marlena: Well, how could it be?
John: Yeah, with Stefano as a father-in-law?
Abe: You know, when-- when Theo was diagnosed with autism, I didn't want to see it. And Lexie made me realize that I couldn't afford to be in denial, you know? We had to help our son reach his full potential. And Lexie wouldn't have us do anything else.
Hope: And look at what the two of you have done for him.
Lexie: Oh, my God.
Lexie: Oh, my God. Oh, my God, he finished the train puzzle.
Lexie: Oh, sweetheart.
Abe: That is terrific. That's terrific.
Lexie: Oh, honey, we are so proud of you. Mm, mm. Oh, God.
Abe: Which is why I created this foundation in Lexie's name to help support other families dealing with autism if they feel the same fear and powerlessness that we did.
Hope: Abe, that's wonderful.
Abe: You know, I-- I thought I put all these feelings behind me. I just--I hope I have what it takes to raise him on my own.
Cameron: You're not alone, Abe.
Bo: Got that right.
Chad: You have all of us. And that's a promise.
Kayla: Yeah, whatever you and Theo need, you know where to find me.
Hope: And me. And all of us. We're always here for you and Theo. Don't ever forget that.
Sami: [Sighs] Well, I mean, obviously, Lexie meant well. But, I mean, the idea that-- that we could make each other happy, that's nuts.
EJ: No, I was just telling you her theory. Obviously, it's not something I subscribe to.
Sami: No, no, of course. But I mean, you know, it's-- it's just crazy. I mean, obviously we would-- [Laughs]
EJ: Yeah, yeah. Well, she was a lot more optimistic about human nature than you and I.
Sami: Well, that's nice. It is nice.
EJ: It is, it is nice.
Sami: Yeah. Um, you know, I wanted to talk to you about her feelings for you. You know, I know she believed that you could change. This could be your moment.
EJ: Why? Because my father's dead?
Sami: Well, yeah. I mean, you don't have to follow in his footsteps. You don't have to impress him anymore. You could be your own man.
EJ: It's not that easy to change course.
Sami: Lexie did. She did. She got out from Stefano's influence. And I know she believed you could do the same thing. EJ, the biggest problem is that you don't want to.
EJ: I think we ought to stop this conversation, Samantha, before the truce goes down in flames.
Sami: Fine. But for the sake of the kids, I really think you should think about it.
Abigail: So, Chad, does Melanie know about Lexie? They worked together.
Chad: [Sighs] Well, I left a ton of messages telling her to call me, but she never did. And I didn't want her to find out about Lexie on a message. But you know, I finally caved in. Figured she'd have to call me after that, you know. But no, nothing.
Abigail: It's just so strange. It's not like Melanie at all.
Gabi: Yeah, I know, but she just--she needed to get away. But I know that when she's ready, she will call. But in the meantime, Chad, you have us.
Abe: Well, I love you too, son. Don't be a stranger, okay?
Abe: Yeah, yeah. He didn't get a flight out in time for the funeral. I told him to wait. You know, a few months, Theo and I will be used--
Hope: You never get used to it.
Abe: Yeah. I guess you two must be thinking a lot about Zack today.
Abe: You know, Lexie-- she never did get over the guilt of trying to keep him for herself.
Bo: We forgave her a long time ago. And when we lost Zack-- well, he belonged to all of us. And a lot has happened since then.
Hope: Friends always find a way back to each other, Abe. We're family.
Celeste: How are you doing?
EJ: You really care?
Celeste: Alexandra did. And she wanted us all to try to get along for Theo's sake.
EJ: Theo is going to want for nothing.
Celeste: Money and things are not what she was talking about.
EJ: Can I ask you a question?
EJ: You're supposed to have this sixth sense. Are they ever going to catch the man who killed my father?
Celeste: [Sighs] Whatever happened that night, it will eventually come out. Is that what you really want?
Nicole: Thank you for dinner.
Daniel: Yeah, well, I'll just, you know, walk you to your car.
Nicole: Thank you, but I'm a big girl.
Nicole: Really, Daniel. I mean, what are you going to do? You're going to kiss me good night, hold my hand? I'm sorry, but gentle kisses and hand-holding-- it's not for people like us.
Daniel: Who are they for? People like Rafe?
Nicole: Or your Rebecca. Well... I'll see you around.
Daniel: Yeah, yeah. It's been a long night, so take care of yourself.
EJ: Why would I not want my father's killer brought to justice?
Celeste: Yes, that's exactly what I was asking myself.
EJ: I know what you're thinking.
Celeste: Really? I thought I was the one with second sight.
EJ: I did not kill my father.
Celeste: I believe you.
EJ: Do you?
Celeste: Something tells me you're speaking the truth. I'm sorry if I upset you.
Abe: Uh, excuse me, everyone. Please, let me--let me have your attention, everybody. [Laughs] You know, most of you know that this gathering here tonight was Lexie's idea. And she did a lot of the planning because she wanted everyone to have a good time. So she made me promise that there would be dancing.
Abe: So come on, come on. This is what she wants, so grab a partner.
John: Hey, don't have to ask me twice. Come on, baby. I like this song.
[The Flamingos' "I Only Have Eyes For You" plays]
Gabi: Hey, I know that you'd rather be dancing with Melanie, but since she's not here, will you dance with me?
Singer: I can't see anyone but you
Chad: Um, yeah. Sure. My pleasure.
Kayla: Don't think you're getting out of this.
Abe: Oh, no. I don't think this is a real good idea.
Kayla: Lexie said everybody.
Singer: Are the stars
Kayla: Come on.
Singer: Out tonight? I don't know if it's cloudy or bright
Johnny: Mommy, why aren't you dancing with Daddy?
Sami: Oh. Oh.
EJ: [Clears throat]
Sami: I don't think that's a good idea, sweetheart.
EJ: Yeah, no. Your mother's right. I--
Johnny: But Aunt Lexie wanted everyone to dance. Right?
Johnny: Daddy, you forgot your rose.
Singer: I don't know if
EJ: Thank you.
Singer: We're in a garden or on a crowded
Abe: Lexie got what she wanted.
Kayla: I think that Lexie is looking down on all of us right now.
Abe: Yeah. I think so too.
Hope: I'd like to offer a toast. To my dear friend, Lexie Carver. If a woman is lucky... [Sighs] She gets to have a friend like Lexie. Someone who always listens without ever judging. Someone you can cry with at sad movies. And have a glass of wine with while we watch the kids play happily together. Someone who understands when you just need to vent and complain about life. And then gently reminds you how important forgiveness is. While she was going through the most difficult, worst time in her life, she reminds you to cherish the ones that you love while you still have the chance. I was very lucky. Very, very blessed to have Lexie as my friend. To Dr. Alexandra Carver. I love you, Lex. I will never forget you. To Lexie.
All: To Lexie.
Nicole: [Sighs] Mm, God. Am I stupid? Daniel.
Marlena: I'd like to share a memory of Lexie with you. It was several years ago. We were in Chicago, and we saw a performance of Shakespeare's "The Tempest." In the fourth act, Prospero has a speech after he gives his daughter to the man who loves her. And I turned to look at Lexie, and she had tears running down her face. In memory of that moment with my friend, I would like to read you that speech. "Our revels now are ended. These, our actors, as I foretold you, were all spirits and are melted into air, into thin air. And like the baseless fabric of this vision, the cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, the solemn temples, the great globe itself, yea, all which inherit, shall dissolve. And like this insubstantial pageant faded, leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff as dreams are made on. And our little life is rounded with a sleep." Good night, sweetheart.
