Will: Nothing that I can't handle.
Sami: Look, you know I don't buy that. He's forcing you to work for him again, isn't he?
Lucas: Sonny, will you give us a second? We want to talk to Will alone.
Sonny: Yeah, of course. See you later, man.
Sami: Will, listen to-- Will, come on. You know you can't work for him. It's too dangerous. You almost got prosecuted for Stefano's murder.
Will: But I wasn't.
Lucas: Well, not this time, you weren't, but what about further down the road? Now your mother's right. Any association with the DiMera’s is bad news, man.
Rafe: Well, well, well.
Rafe: Glad I ran into you.
Rafe: Hmm. You don't think you have any explaining to do? I mean, despite our best efforts to convince EJ that you and I slept together and made this baby, well, we both know it didn't happen.
Nicole: And I am eternally grateful for your help.
Rafe: Well, all right. So, how about keeping me in the loop?
Nicole: About what?
Rafe: Who switched the DNA test results? You? Daniel?
Nicole: Look, Rafe, I was trying to protect you. We both know the less you know about what happened with the DNA test, the better off you are.
Rafe: Okay. Well, I appreciate you trying to protect me, but we're on dangerous ground here now. If EJ finds out that the test results were switched, he's gonna come after me, you, or even Dan.
Nicole: I'm sorry. I'm sorry you got caught up in the middle of all this. I know you're a good guy who plays by the rules, but I couldn't let EJ find out the truth.
Rafe: And I don't want him to. I want you to know I'm gonna do whatever it takes to protect you and that baby. Now let's be honest. EJ's never believed that I am the father of the child, and you know as well as I do he's gonna insist on another DNA test.
Nicole: Okay, if that happens, I'll deal with it then.
Rafe: We'll deal with it. Okay?
Nicole: Yes, thank you. Thank you, but as of now, EJ has no claim on my baby.
EJ: Well, at least not right now, eh?
Will: I can handle EJ.
Sami: Oh, famous last words.
Will: You know what, instead of complaining, why don't we all just be grateful that he bailed me out of jail?
Sami: Will, we were gonna bail you out of jail. Stop it right now.
Lucas: And you know what?
Sami: We were gonna do that if you'd given us half a chance.
Lucas: He didn't bail you out out of the goodness of his heart either. He did it because he has an agenda. You know that, he always does.
Sami: He must have said something to you about it. What does he expect for bailing you out?
Will: Um, he wants me to work for the mayor's office?
Sami: Do we look like we were born yesterday?
Lucas: Is he even paying you for that?
Sami: Lucas, that's not--
Sami: The point is you should get out. Get out now while you still can.
Lucas: Before you're in over your head.
Will: Oh, my God, I can't. You know I can't.
Sami: Because of the shoo-- because of that? Because he's still holding that over your head, isn't he?
Sami: Of course. Of course he's still using the shooting against you. I'm not surprised. He would use it against you for the rest of your life if you let him.
Lucas: There must be something we can do about this.
Will: No, we are not gonna do anything, okay, because this is my life. My life. And I will handle EJ.
EJ: Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt your little tête-à-tête. I just--of course I couldn't help hearing that you're having a conversation about me and the baby.
Nicole: Of course.
EJ: I'm sensing a tiny bit of stress between our two parents-to-be. You know that's not good for the baby, right?
Nicole: You know what, EJ, my stress levels rise at the mere mention of your name, and Rafe's been concerned, because of the upset you've caused me, the threats, the demands. I haven't been eating. But now that the paternity test is over, and you officially have no claim on my child, I am going to that bar, and I'm ordering enough food for two--for me and my baby.
EJ: Do you think I touched a nerve? You know what, Rafe, I have to say... I'm rather glad I bumped into you. I want to have a conversation with you about my father's murder investigation.
Rafe: Wow, that's funny. Last time I tried to talk to you about it, you kicked me out of your house.
EJ: Well, you promised me evidence, and you came around empty-handed.
Rafe: Right, well, the investigation's ongoing. That's all you need to know.
EJ: Have you found any new evidence? Do you have any new suspects?
Rafe: Come on. You know I can't actually discuss that with a suspect. Can I? No. Oh, and if you were to dismiss me, everyone in town would know that you actually are hiding something.
EJ: You are aware that the entire town is already very familiar with the close ties that you and Commissioner Brady have to all of the suspects?
Rafe: Not all of them.
Spencer: Mr. Mayor. Well, I didn't expect to see the two of you together. Have you changed your mind about cooperating with us? You finally ready to tell us everything you know?
Lucas: You know, your mother and I have a lot more experience dealing with EJ over the years than you do.
Sami: Will, sit down. Your father's right.
Lucas: Now he might be keeping your secret now, yeah, because he wants you under his thumb, but eventually he's gonna have no use for you. And then he's gonna tell everybody that you shot him, no matter how loyal you've been to him.
Will: Well, I have to take my chances. Okay, look, as far as college jobs go, this is not a bad gig. Okay? Would you rather me, um, bus tables at a coffeehouse?
Sami: Hey, you know what, you should be happy to take any honest job. Whatever it is.
Will: Yes, but this is gonna look a hell of a lot better on my resume than serving lattes.
Lucas: Well, you know, you shouldn't be thinking about work right now. You should be thinking about school. So don't grow up so fast, okay?
Will: I didn't have a choice.
Sami: Okay. Obviously... another slam against me, and I know I deserve it. But you know what? We want to help you. Okay? I know this is, like, a rough time for you. You just were outed in the paper. And you have to deal with working for EJ against your will, and we think we can help you. So, let us.
Will: I'm handling this just fine on my own. Okay? Thank you. I know how to manage EJ. Okay? Great.
Lucas: I don't know about--
Will: You know what, I got to go.
Lucas: You don't have to go, because we're not finished here.
Will: Yeah, we are, okay? Please don't worry about me. All right? Don't.
Sami: Don't worry about him? Has he met me?
Lucas: Yeah, I know. I know.
Sami: We just--we just can't let it keep going like this. We have to do something. We have to help him.
EJ: Agent Spencer. You know, I had rather hoped, when you took over this investigation, that you would bring a breath of fresh air to this case. It's disappointing, to be frank, that you seem to be following the Salem Police Department down the same tired road.
Spencer: And what road is that, Mr. DiMera?
EJ: The one that leads to me being a suspect in my father's murder.
Spencer: You are a suspect. Your fingerprints were found on the murder weapon.
EJ: Yes, as were seven other people's.
Spencer: Had you been cooperative early on, we may have been able to eliminate you as a suspect.
EJ: Let me make something very clear to you gentlemen. Flimsy, circumstantial evidence is not going to see me convicted of a crime I did not commit. I loved my father very much.
Rafe: Even though he disinherited you?
EJ: Furthermore, I am the mayor of this town. And so should your little investigation in any way libel, slander, or impede me, there will be hell to pay.
Spencer: Duly noted, Mr. Mayor.
EJ: I suggest you gentlemen think long and hard before you make any rash decisions. I think this little conversation is over.
Rafe: I'd say that about says it all. Hmm?
Nicole: EJ, hey, wait. Wait.
EJ: What is it you want, Nikki?
Nicole: Uh... there's something I need to tell you. I can't tell you how sorry I was to hear about Lexie's death. I know how much you loved your sister, and I can't imagine how difficult this must be for you, losing her so soon after Stefano.
EJ: Thank you. That means a lot to hear you say that. Given these sad circumstances, I would hope that you would understand what I'm doing.
Nicole: What do you mean?
EJ: I just lost two members of my immediate family. I'm quite determined, Nicole. I'm not going to lose that child as well.
Nicole: EJ, the DNA test proved--
EJ: I don't care what the DNA test said, Nicole. That's my child. [Cell phone rings] I'm sorry. Excuse me. I have to take this. It's the hospital administrator returning my call.
Nicole: Why were you calling the hospital?
EJ: Why would you be concerned that I was talking to the hospital administrator, Nikki?
Spencer: We've turned up the pressure, but it's--but he's not gonna slip. I'd say it's clear the only way EJ DiMera's going to cooperate with this investigation is if we find some evidence against him to use as leverage.
Rafe: Yeah. Did your interviews with the other suspects turn up anything we can use?
Spencer: No, they pretty much confirmed what you and Roman already told me. There's still a lot of work to do there too.
Rafe: Well, great. So, all of our suspects have motive, they all have their prints on the murder weapon, and yet none of them tested positive for gunpowder residue.
Spencer: Well, the killer could have worn gloves.
Spencer: Your money's still on EJ.
Rafe: I'm trying not to be biased.
Spencer: Good. 'Cause he's your boss, and he won't stand for that.
Rafe: Look, we all know that EJ has a history of doing despicable things to people, not to mention the fact that there was bad blood between EJ and Stefano because of the unexecuted will his father drew up.
Rafe: Were Stefano around today, EJ would have nothing. Nothing.
Spencer: Means, motive, and opportunity.
Rafe: Yeah, well, not to mention the fact that I think he's the only suspect that's capable.
Spencer: Of shooting and killing his own father in cold blood?
Will: Oh, hey.
Will: What are you doing here?
Sonny: Well, your parents were a little upset, so I thought I'd come and hang around, make sure you're okay.
Will: Oh, thank you. I appreciate that.
Sonny: So, what happened?
Will: Oh, nothing. Just--just arguing about, you know, working for EJ, and they don't think I can handle him.
Sonny: I don't know if you want to hear this, but... maybe they're right.
Sami: EJ blackmailing Will-- I'm gonna find him today, and I'm gonna give him a piece of my mind.
Lucas: No, I told you that is the worst thing you could possibly do right now.
Sami: Are you serious? You want me to just stay here, do some window shopping? Just hope like hell it magically gets better all by itself?
Lucas: No, Sami, and I know you're being a protective mother, and I respect that, but if you push EJ, you know him. He's gonna push back even harder. So forget it, all right? We'll talk to Will, and we'll work something else out, but... I'm telling you, do not confront EJ about this by yourself.
Sami: All right, I hear you.
Lucas: You do?
Sami: I have meetings this afternoon anyway.
Lucas: All right. Good. Go to your meetings... be a good girl, and I'll see you at home. We'll talk about this later, okay? But whatever we do, we do it together.
Sami: Yeah, you know those meetings I have this afternoon? Yes, cancel them. All of them.
EJ: Why are you so concerned about my talking to the hospital administrator? Hmm? Are you worried about your, uh, friend Dr. Jonas?
Nicole: Well, I wouldn't put it past you to make trouble for Daniel or Rafe, because they're both my friends.
EJ: "Friends"? Really? I think "accomplices" would be a slightly more fitting description, don't you?
EJ: Okay, if you must know... I was calling to discuss making a contribution as a memorial to my sister.
Nicole: Oh, uh... well, that's a wonderful thing to do. I know Lexie would be happy about that, and so would Abe and Theo.
EJ: My family is very precious to me.
Nicole: I know.
EJ: Then you should know that there's nothing that you can do to keep me from this child, Nicole. Nothing.
Rafe: EJ's reluctance to even be interviewed's a clear indication he's hiding something.
Spencer: Yes, well, unfortunately, all we have right now are theories.
Rafe: Yeah, theories that are starting to add up--the missing pension funds, the revised will--
Spencer: Still, I've reviewed all the evidence from the mansion and there's nothing there that shows that EJ is more of a suspect than anyone else.
Rafe: Wait a second. [Thump] EJ has another residence besides the mansion.
Spencer: He does? Where?
Rafe: A couple of months ago, he took an apartment across the hall from Sami Brady. Supposedly so he could spend time with the kids. Damn it, why didn't I think of that before? That's the place we need to search.
[Door opens and keys rattle]
[Knock at door]
Sami: Once wasn't enough, you psychopath?
EJ: Samantha, what are you talking about?
Sami: You're blackmailing Will about the shooting. Enough is enough, EJ. Leave my son the hell alone.
Will: Sonny, you don't have to worry about me, all right? My parents are making this out to be way more than it is.
Sonny: I just wouldn't be so sure of that. And I don't want to have to remind you what EJ's done to your family.
Will: No, you don't. Look, that's why I'm doing this. Okay, because right now EJ has an advantage over me. But once I level that playing field, I'll be free.
Sonny: I just want you to be careful. You know? Don't want anything to happen to you.
EJ: I thought we were beginning to get along, Samantha.
Sami: Yeah, well, I thought that too.
EJ: I was trying to do your boy a favor.
EJ: Would you rather I just let him rot in jail?
Sami: He was not gonna rot in jail. I was coming to bail him out myself. Lucas and I are his parents. Why don't you let us take care of him?
EJ: Oh, I'm sure it must have slipped my mind what a crack team of parents you two are.
Sami: When I found out that you had bailed him out, I actually thought you were doing something kind. I saw that look in your eye, and when I thanked you, I meant it. 'Cause I thought it was like how you look at Johnny and Sydney. When I delude myself into actually thinking that you have real, human emotions.
EJ: Let me tell you something. My love for my children and my concern for your son are both very genuine.
Sami: Then why are you trapping him into working for you again?
EJ: He likes working for me, Samantha! Ask him! He says it all the bloody time!
Sami: Don't you think he has bigger issues to deal with right now? He was just outed to the entire town, and not in a manner of his choosing. Why don't you let him deal with that before you go after him again?
EJ: You know what, maybe he's not the only person who has bigger issues to deal with, all right? My father just died. And my sister died. Why don't you think about that for a second, Samantha, before you start digging your claws into me? Of course, you haven't even taken a second to consider the fact that I lost my father and my sister within a couple of days of one another. Losing Alexandra was devastating.
Sami: I'm sure it was.
EJ: I don't care what people thought about Stefano, the man was my father. I realize it's very difficult for you, Samantha, to put other people ahead of yourself, but you're not the only person who's suffering here, all right?
Sami: EJ, I know how much you cared about Lexie. I know how important she was to you, and I-I can only imagine how you must be feeling right now.
EJ: So you--what, you thought you'd just come over and make me feel worse, did you?
Sami: I'm sorry for your loss. I really am.
Will: Um... yikes, I got to go do some stuff for EJ. Yeah. But, um, I was thinking maybe, you know, after-- see if you wanted--maybe could see, like, a movie or something?
Sonny: Yeah. Yeah, that'd be great. Let's do that.
Will: Okay, great. Your treat. I'll text you. Okay.
Sonny: All right, that's a deal.
Lucas: Hey, hey. Um, your mom had to go, but I'd like to talk to you for a second.
Will: Oh, now's--I kind of got to go. Can--don't worry, though. Seriously. Come on.
Lucas: I'm your dad. It's my job to worry.
Will: Then we'll talk later. Okay? See you. I got to go.
Lucas: Wasn't what I had in mind. Did he talk to you about this?
Sonny: Yeah, yeah, he said that he's on top of it, so...
Lucas: Well, I hope so. I mean, he's got a lot more on his plate than dealing with EJ right now.
Sonny: I know. Man, I'm just really glad that I didn't have anything like this happen to me when I first came out. You know, I got to go at it with my own pace, and I didn't have to face my Uncle Victor until I knew I was ready.
Lucas: You know, when Victor was my stepdad, I was--I was actually scared to ask him if I could stay out past my curfew.
Sonny: Yeah, I spent so much time worrying about it, but it ended up going better than I thought. You know, he was like--it was a little weird at first, but now we're closer than ever.
Lucas: That's cool.
Lucas: Um... [Clears throat] Is there any advice you can give me, you know, so I can make this any easier for Will? I would really appreciate it.
Sonny: Yeah. You know, Will, he's said that you have been very supportive.
Sonny: So I think just keep being supportive. Keep loving him. And let him know that nothing has changed for you now that you know that he's gay.
Spencer: I think a warrant to search EJ's apartment is gonna be a tough sell to a judge unless we find more evidence linking EJ with the crime.
Rafe: Well, there's no harm in trying, though, right?
Spencer: I'll get the ball rolling and make some calls.
Rafe: Yeah. Hey.
Rafe: So I'm assuming that EJ's still not buying the DNA test results.
Nicole: Hmm. He is more determined than ever to prove that this kid is his.
Rafe: Hmm. Sorry to hear that.
Nicole: It's just that Lexie's death has made him feel like all he has left are his children, and Sami has custody of Sydney and Johnny, so that just leaves... my sweet, little one.
Nicole: Rafe, he said he's not gonna back down. He's gonna claim my baby, and God help anyone who gets in his way.
EJ: Lexie gave me so much, and...she asked so little in return. One of the things that she asked me, though, Samantha, is... she wanted me to make sure that Theo stayed in contact with Johnny and Sydney.
Sami: Of course. You know I'm okay with that.
EJ: Thank you. Let's talk about William. He's--he's an adult, Samantha. He's quite capable of making his own choices.
Sami: EJ, this isn't a choice. You are forcing him to work for you.
EJ: Samantha, I'm the mayor. Okay? I run DiMera Enterprises. It's not a nefarious organization.
Sami: Oh! Give me a break.
EJ: Okay, fine. All right, if you don't wish him to continue under my personal tutelage, I'd give him another job. Maybe he could work for Countess Wilhelmina.
Sami: Great. You'd let him work for me?
EJ: Not exactly, no. I thought that maybe you could work for him. How does that sound? Hmm?
Sami: Wait a second, EJ. You said that--after Stefano died, you said that I was gonna get to run Countess Wilhelmina.
EJ: Well, I think I'm perfectly entitled to change my mind. [Typing] Look... when Madison offered you the job, you knew nothing about running a company, and yet you think you're perfectly qualified to run it now? But, William--he's smart, he's very ambitious. He just needs, you know, the right person to mold him, to guide him.
Sami: You are the worst possible influence he could possibly have.
EJ: Thank you. Be careful, though, darling, because if you do want to keep your son's freedom and keep your job, I suggest you don't antagonize me.
Sami: [Groans] I hate you. God, I hate you! Go ahead. Underestimate me. I dare you.
Sonny: You know, Will's a lot tougher than you think. He's been through a lot these past few months, and he never caved because of pressure. So it definitely made him stronger.
Lucas: Yeah. Yeah, I know. I like to think that you have a lot to do with that, you know. If Will didn't have you in his corner, things would be a lot worse, so I'm grateful that-- that you're in his life.
Sonny: Well, me too. I would--I would do anything for Will.
Lucas: Can I ask you a personal question?
Sonny: Yeah, sure.
Lucas: I mean, it's just the way you said it right now makes me think, you know--
Sonny: Makes you think what?
Lucas: That you have feelings for my son. More than a friend.
Rafe: You know what, Nicole? By the time that sweet little baby's born, EJ might not even be in the picture.
Rafe: Well, he's still a suspect in Stefano's murder, right? If prosecuted, he could go to jail.
Nicole: Oh, God, I don't want to believe that EJ shot his own father. But I do know they weren't on the best of terms before Stefano died.
Rafe: Yeah. Excuse me. Hey.
Spencer: I put in for a warrant to search EJ's apartment, but I'm not too optimistic about getting it.
Nicole: Um, excuse me. Agent Spencer, right?
Nicole: I'm Nicole DiMera. I'm EJ's wife. And, you know, I'd be more than happy to help in this investigation in any way I can.
Spencer: You would?
Nicole: Yeah. You certainly don't have to get a warrant to search his apartment. I can do that for you.
Will: Hey. Here are the city budget documents that you wanted.
EJ: You're late. Did you stop over at your mother's place for some milk and cookies?
Will: Uh, no, why, do you want some?
Will: What happened?
EJ: She was over here earlier reading me the riot act regarding your employment. Look, William, I think you're a little bit old to be running to her every time you have a problem.
Will: I didn't do that. I swear.
EJ: You would do well to realize that I'm the only reason that you're not in jail. I've got a lot of faith in you, William. I would appreciate a bit more loyalty in return.
Sonny: Will and I--we've become really good friends.
Lucas: Well, yeah, you know, I don't mean to make you feel uncomfortable at all. Maybe it's none of my business, but I get the feeling you'd rather be more than friends with my son.
Sonny: I can't believe I'm saying this right now, but, yes, I have feelings for Will. And it goes beyond friendship.
Lucas: Well, thanks for being honest with me.
Sonny: Yeah, but I don't think Will's ready for those feelings yet. You know, he's still figuring himself out, and that's what he's doing right now. See, he needs to feel comfortable with who he is before he can fall in love with someone. So as of right now, I guess that being friends is the best move.
Lucas: Well, that's really mature of you. Makes me think that you feel he's worth waiting for, and... I guess that means I approve.
Sonny: Well, thanks for saying that. [Clears throat] But, you know, I don't really know if Will feels the same way about me. So I guess I'm just gonna have to wait and see, you know.
Lucas: Yeah. I guess time will tell.
Sonny: And you're not gonna, like, tell him about what I said?
Lucas: No, no, I'm not gonna say anything. No, it's cool. Your secret's safe with me. Don't worry about it.
Sonny: Okay. I just don't want him to feel any more pressure right now.
Will: What? I swear. I didn't tell my mom. What happened was mom and dad just overheard me, you know, talking to Sonny about it a little bit, and then they figured it out.
EJ: William, you know, there is an old World War II expression here, which is rather appropriate--"loose lips sink ships."
Will: Come on, I didn't have to say much. I mean, they already know that you did blackmail me about it a couple months ago.
EJ: I'm sure that I don't need to remind you, William, that I am the captain of this ship, and you are either with me, or you are against me. I don't need to remind you how a captain deals with mutiny, do I?
Spencer: Look, Mrs. DiMera, thank you for your offer, but we really do need a warrant to search your husband's apartment. This is a high-profile case, and we have to do everything by the book. I'm going back to the station. Are you coming?
Rafe: I'll be there shortly. Nicole.
Nicole: Why? Why can't I help? It would be my way of paying you back after everything you've done for me.
Rafe: Okay. Listen, I know that your heart is in the right place. And I know that you would breathe a huge sigh of relief if we could put EJ behind bars right now.
Nicole: Oh, I sure would.
Rafe: Yeah, all the more reason that we have to play by the rules. Believe me, I learned the hard way.
Lucas: What are you doing back here? I thought you had a meeting.
Sami: Um, it was canceled.
Lucas: You went to a meeting, didn't you? Just not the one that you scheduled. You went to see EJ. You went to confront him. I can't believe you.
Sami: Well, someone had to. I told him to leave Will the hell alone.
Will: Okay, look... you're getting worked up over nothing, here. I mean, we both know my family has a problem with me working for you. So what? You know, I don't care. So, why should you care? Right? I mean, I will admit that the-- the position was a little bit more enjoyable when I actually had some perks, but, I mean, you can't beat the on-the-job training, right? Look, I learned a lot from you. And--you know, all about stuff, and how you use information to your advantage. And they don't teach any of that at Salem U.
EJ: You know, William... the first day that you tried to blackmail me for sleeping with your mother, you were very wet behind the ears. But look at you. [Tapping] You've come a long way.
Will: Well... thank you. Actually, speaking of my mother, there's something I wanted to ask you about her.
EJ: Mm-hmm. What's that?
Will: What do you see in her, anyway?
EJ: I'm sorry?
Will: I'm serious. I mean, you're a smart guy. How did you end up with her, of all people?
EJ: Um... [Chuckles] I think your mother--your mother and I--okay, um... in life, William... everybody makes mistakes. Including myself. Now that's enough trolling through the past for one day. If you leave, you can get copies of these to all the city council members, so, if you wouldn't mind taking that on, thank you.
Will: Aye-aye, Captain.
Lucas: Call me crazy, but I thought we agreed.
Sami: Actually, no. You were just telling me what to do.
Lucas: What did you expect to do? What did you expect to accomplish by confronting EJ? You think you can reason with that guy? You think you can cure him of his evil ways?
Sami: Obviously I accomplished nothing. It was totally pointless, and he is a heartless bastard just like his father.
Lucas: When are you gonna stop banging your head against the wall over this guy, huh? Back off EJ. Just back away. There's no good that could come from you talking to him. Stay away from him.
Spencer: Hello. Spencer. I see. Well, thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
Rafe: The warrant to search EJ's apartment?
Rafe: Okay. Well, it was still worth a shot, right?
Spencer: I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have found anything anyway. EJ's pretty damn shrewd. Probably already disposed of any evidence already.
Rafe: Yeah, well, even clever criminals make mistakes. And besides, EJ's not used to getting his hands dirty. Now, we gotta find a way to get a warrant to search that apartment.
[Knock on door]
EJ: [Scoffs] Well, you're certainly the last person I expected to see.
Nicole: May I come in?
