Lexie: Hi, honey! How was your hike?
Lexie: Cool? Ooh.
Theo: This one's for you.
Lexie: Oh, thank you, sweetheart.
Cameron: He said it was the prettiest, like his mom.
Lexie: Oh, baby, thank you. I love it. Oh. So did you have a good time?
Cameron: You should have seen us blazing a trail through the wilderness.
Theo: Cam said can go camping this summer. With you too, Mom.
Lexie: Oh, well, we'll see, okay? We'll see.
Harmon: Mr. DiMera, I understand things got a little out of hand.
Stefano: Out of hand?
Harmon: But look, the bomb took out some of their best people, crippled the I.S.A.'s efforts to put you away and, according to Shane Donovan, they're scrambling trying to figure out what to do next.
Stefano: Unfortunately, so am I. Because you failed so miserably at your job.
Harmon: As soon as I figure out where Donovan's got the coin stashed, it's yours.
Bo: We do have the advantage. DiMera thinks we're dead and believes we trust his minion Harmon.
Hope: Yeah, but still, we have no proof that Stefano's guilty of anything.
Shane: Let's just hope Billie makes some headway with EJ.
Bo: Yeah. If we can prove that he's involved in this, uh... arms-trafficking deal, we'll have Stefano.
Hope: Meanwhile... he's still desperate to get his hands on this.
Shane: Our cryptographers have been working around the clock on the inscription, but so far we're back where we started--just some random numbers and the name Yvette.
Hope: Let me take another crack at it.
Shane: But, Hope, these people are experts.
Hope: But I know Stefano. I know his life story.
Hope: And I have more of an emotional investment here. He tried to kill us to get his hands on this.
Bo: You do realize you should say yes? She doesn't take no for an answer.
Shane: You're kidding.
Shane: All right, let's, uh, take a look at the magnified image over here.

Shane: Thank God for women who won't take no for an answer, huh?
Billie: As I said before, I know who made it possible for John's people to have him freed.
EJ: Who's that?
Billie: Care to guess?
Billie: Oh, come on. Stefano. Your own father betrayed you to help his own sworn enemy.
EJ: I already spoke... to my father, and he assured me he didn't have anything to do with it.
Billie: And you believed him?
EJ: John Black has been an adversary of my father for many years. Why would he suddenly work to clear his name?
Billie: He owed Alice Horton a big favor. Bo and Hope found an IOU that he gave to Alice.
EJ: IOU? You wouldn't happen to have a copy of this IOU, would you?
Billie: No, no. But I know that it's true. And they called in your father's debt and he came through. I don't know, they call it honor among thieves. Your father has been undermining you for quite some time. Don't you wonder why?
EJ: What I wonder, Billie, is why you seem so determined to drive a wedge between my father and me.
Austin: Which one's Carrie's room?
Roman: Right down there and to the right.
Carrie: Oh, my-- I think I heard Austin's voice.
Rafe: Oh, my God. Your dad must have brought him.
Carrie: Oh, my God. I wasn't expecting to see Austin this soon.
Rafe: Are you gonna tell him?
Carrie: I have to.
Rafe: Oh, boy. You need my help?
Carrie: No. No, no, no, Rafe. I owe it to Austin to tell him myself.
Billie: If the truth about Stefano causes a rift between you two, so be it. I just thought you deserved to know.
EJ: Billie, please don't insult me. We both know you despise me just as much as you despise my father.
Billie: That was true. Until your father killed six innocent people. You know, EJ, you're starting to look like a human being, next to him. Come on, don't be surprised that Stefano's the one that had John freed. He's been undermining you for months now. You know how little he can be trusted. You've been his partner in crime for quite some time. Oh, what? You think because it's you, that he's not gonna turn on you, because--what--you're his son?
EJ: Are you finished?
Billie: That bastard is capable of the cold-blooded murder of six people. Who's to know what he's got in store for you?
Hope: Upper right-hand corner. It's a mark of some kind.
Shane: Let me take a look.
[Computer keys clicking]
Shane: Looks like some kind of engraving error.
Hope: No, I don't think so. You have men working on this case?
Shane: Yes, but--
Hope: They may know cryptography, but I know jewelry. Especially the expensive kind.
Bo: Hmm, don't I know it.
Shane: Jewelry? I-I don't get it.
Hope: Well, uh, when I was Princess Gina, I'm pretty sure I had a necklace with an insignia similar to this one. Definitely European. Very expensive.
Shane: All right, I'll get someone on it, see if they can trace it back to where it came from. I'll let you know what I come up with.
Hope: Thanks, Shane.
Bo: Good work, Detective. You deserve a raise.
Hope: There's only one thing I want. Stefano prides himself on being the Phoenix rising over and over again from the ashes. It's our turn this time, Brady.
Lexie: So, um... you really had a good time?
Cameron: He's a great kid.
Lexie: Well, I'm his mom, I know that. [Laughter] But, um, I don't know. Sometimes people don't get him. And sometimes he has a hard time warming up to people that he doesn't know. But you two seem really comfortable together.
Cameron: He's my nephew.
Lexie: Yeah. Um, listen, I have a-- a huge favor to ask of you.
Cameron: The answer's yes.
Lexie: No, wait. Wait until you hear what it is. When I'm no longer here, will you continue to be a part of my son's life?
Harmon: I can't just walk in there and pocket the coin. It's under lock and key while Donovan's team checks it out.
[Bang on table]
Stefano: I am not paying you for your excuses, Harmon. I am paying you for your access to the I.S.A.
Harmon: I understand that and I will deliver.
Stefano: Better get me that damn coin.
Roman: Remember what we talked about. You don't have long, okay?
Austin: I got it, I got it.
Roman: All right.
Austin: All right.
Rafe: Didn't know we were allowing visitors.
Austin: You know, that's funny. Isn't that how Carrie got here in the first place? As a visitor?
Roman: Austin, nobody's fault Carrie got caught in the cross fire here, okay? I want her home safe and sound every bit as much as you do.
Austin: Nobody wants that more than I do. If you'll both excuse me.
Roman: Something you want to say?
Rafe: Hmm? No. Surprised to see him here, that's all. Now wasn't it you who said how risky it was to have any visitors here?
Roman: Are you worried about everybody's safety, or is there another reason you'd rather Austin wasn't here? Like, uh, maybe the fact he's Carrie's husband?
Carrie: Austin, what-- what are you doing here?
Austin: I just came here to see my beautiful wife.
Carrie: Um--[Chuckles] I'm just surprised. Come in, come in, come in. Uh... Dad said that no one could come and visit while we were hiding from Stefano.
Austin: Yeah, well, you know, I had to pull son-in-law rank. And he knew that I wasn't gonna let up until he gave in. Carrie... I hate this.
Carrie: I know.
Austin: You know? I mean, do you realize what a roller coaster this is? I mean, first I hear that you're dead, and then I get the miracle of my life and I find out that you're okay. And now they're telling me that I can't see you? This is torture for me. And I miss you so much.
Stefano: Ah-ha. What an honor. A personal visit from the mayor.
EJ: I thought you detested sarcasm.
Stefano: I do. When other people use it. [Clears throat] Anyway, go ahead, tell me why, uh, this nice visit?
EJ: Did you really think that I wouldn't find out that you were the person who got John Black exonerated? I know about Bo and Hope finding this IOU from you to Alice. What were you thinking?
Lexie: I know it's a lot to ask.
Cameron: Not at all. I'd already planned on spending as much time as I can with Theo.
Lexie: Ahh! You have no idea how much that means to me. Abe is the most wonderful father in the world, but on my side of the family, we don't have the best role models.
Cameron: Your father and EJ.
Lexie: Yeah. They love Theo and he loves them. But I don't want him to grow up aspiring to be like them.
Cameron: How do you know I'd be a better influence?
Lexie: I just do.
Cameron: I'll try to live up to the man you think I am.
Lexie: Just love my little boy. Be there for him when... when I can't be.
Cameron: [Clears throat]
Roman: So you're not gonna tell me that you don't have feelings for Carrie, are you?
Roman: Good, good. 'Cause I'd know you were lying.
Roman: I mean, I've seen the way you two look at each other and, believe me, you're not fooling anybody.
Rafe: Well, we're not trying to.
Roman: Well, that's very interesting, since she's married, technically so are you, not to mention the fact you're with Nicole, and she is about to have your baby.
Rafe: Yeah. Well, it's not that simple.
Roman: Usually isn't.
Rafe: Mm-hmm. Carrie and I have been fighting this for months, all right? Now we realize that life's too short not to be with the person that you love.
Roman: Well, Rafe, now there you go. Now you are trying to make it sound simple--we just agreed it wasn't, okay? Now listen to me, all right? Sad fact is just because you love each other doesn't necessarily mean you should be together. Have you considered how much pain your pursuit of happiness will cause other people?
Austin: Do you know that I barely slept last night, after seeing you? And I mean it, I wish that I could take you out of here right now. I want to take you home.
Carrie: I know, but we can't.
Austin: I just had to come here and see you face-to-face and tell you that I'm counting the minutes until this insanity is over with. Carrie... I love you so much.
Carrie: Austin, Austin. No.
Austin: Why not?
Hope: Hey, Brady. If we could track down the jeweler who engraved the coin, he may remember what the other half says. Hey, Billie.
Bo: Hi. How'd it go with Junior?
Billie: Well, I told him about Alice's IOU, and how you and Hope had used it as a "get out of jail free" card for John.
Bo: He must have blown a gasket when he found out his old man was responsible for John's freedom.
Billie: Well, if he did, he didn't show it. But I know that I got to him. It was a pretty easy sell. He knows how often Stefano tried to stab him in the back.
Hope: Then you think he'll confront him with the new information?
Billie: Oh, I wouldn't be surprised if they are at each other's throats as we speak.
EJ: Today I find out... that you're the guy who exonerated John Black.
Stefano: Who told you these stories?
EJ: Why did you do it? Come on, I think the least you can give me is an explanation.
Stefano: I owe you nothing.
EJ: What makes you think you can just go and undo all of my hard work? Ironically, work that I did for you!
Stefano: I owed Alice Horton.
EJ: I'm sorry, what?
Stefano: I owed Alice Horton.
EJ: She's been dead for two years.
Stefano: Mmm. But... I gave her my word.
EJ: So... you chose a promise to a dead woman... over the love of your son.
Stefano: No. I made the promise... because I loved you. Hmm? You were a baby. A baby who I thought was my son, so I did whatever I had to do to protect you.
EJ: So you let John Black slip through your fingers, because... of a debt... because of me.
Stefano: That's right.
EJ: Ah. No wonder you're so angry. You let your nemesis go... for a child that's not even yours.
Cameron: Theo's gonna be okay, Lexie. And he's gonna grow up to be a man you'd be so proud of.
Lexie: [Sighs] There's just so many things that I'd hoped to be able to share with him, you know. About life and people. To realize now I won't be able to, just--
Celeste: That's not necessarily true, my darling. You could make some videos for him to watch. Some for now and some for when he's older.
Lexie: Mom... you are brilliant.
Lexie: You're brilliant.
Celeste: I've been telling you that for years.
Lexie: I'm gonna go and get started right now.
Austin: I locked the door.
Carrie: Uh, I'm sorry.
Austin: You don't want to make-- you don't want to make love in a house full of people, am I right? Is it?
Carrie: It's not just that. A few nights ago, I almost died along with five other people I care about.
Austin: I know. How insensitive of me. I mean, you must have been so scared.
Carrie: I was terrified. But I wasn't brave like the rest of them.
Austin: Yeah, because John, Hope, Bo, Rafe-- they're professionals. And that's why you should never have been there in the first place.
Carrie: But I was. And that kind of close call with death really makes you think about how you're living your life.
Austin: Yeah. I get it. Absolutely.
Carrie: And how you-- you have to make every day count. That might sound selfish.
Austin: No. No. Because all I've been thinking about...[Exhales]... is how much precious time you and I have wasted arguing, finding fault, not trusting each other. And how now, more than ever, all I want to do is I want to put that behind us. I want to learn from it. But, Carrie... I really am committed to getting to the good stuff, you know... the future that we always wanted.
Carrie: When my dad brought you here the other night, I wanted to tell you something. And I have to say it now.
Roman: Rafe, listen to me. You're a good man. We have had our professional differences, from time to time, but I have great respect for you. And I am so sorry Sami hurt you so deeply.
Rafe: Okay, but this isn't about Sami.
Roman: Well, yeah, it kind of is actually. Because, yeah, if you and Carrie get together, Sami will never forgive either one of you. And the last thing those two sisters need is another reason to resent each other.
Rafe: Okay, I am not giving up the woman I love to protect Sami.
Roman: What about Nicole? What about your baby?
Roman: Look, you are a man who puts great stock in doing the right thing.
Roman: What I'm saying right now, it seems to me, the right thing is to stick with Nicole and your baby. Be a good father to your baby.
Carrie: I don't know any other way to say this.
Austin: I want to show you something, okay? And I want you to know that... I started putting this together before I got the news about the explosion. I took all those pictures that you keep up in the shoebox, up in the closet, and I made a little scrapbook. It's kind of a-- it's kind of a history of us.
Austin: Wait, wait, wait, wait. Wait. Look. This is the first time that we went up to The Green Mountain Lodge. And this is a very important picture, because it's a rare photograph where we're actually having good-hair days simultaneously, you know...
Austin: In the same picture.
Carrie: We can't--we can't do this right now. I need-- I need to tell you something.
[Banging on door]
Roman: Carrie, Austin, time's up.
Austin: Roman, I just got here. I just got here, Roman.
Roman: No, come on, Austin. I got to get you back.
Carrie: Dad, just give me a few minutes, please.
Roman: I can't do that, sweetheart. Austin, let's go.
Austin: Okay, Roman, I promise I'm coming right now.
Carrie: [Groans softly]
Austin: You know what? I know what you want to tell me. You want to tell me how important it is to put all the bad things behind us. And if we don't do that... our marriage doesn't stand a chance. And that's the real reason that I came here, that's the real reason why I put the scrapbook together. 'Cause I just want you to remember-- I just want you to remember how good we were together. I want you to remember me, okay? I'm the man that you fell in love with. I'm still that guy. And when you get out of here, we're gonna have a lifetime of new memories. And they're gonna be happy ones. And I promise you that.
Shane: Well, that was one heck of a catch, Hope. Our people have managed to trace the markings on that coin piece to a private family jeweler in Perugia.
Billie: Italy. Oh, what a coincidence.
Shane: It gets even better. Apparently, Stefano DiMera's father, Santo DiMera, used the services of that very same jeweler.
Hope: I want to talk to him in person.
Bo: Yeah. I'm going with you.
Bo: Uh, Shane, what's with the look. Stefano thinks we're dead, he won't be looking for us. Get us a couple of false passports. We'll slip out of the country into Italia and no one will be the wiser. How about it? Come on.
Stefano: The irony is not lost on me. As you know, I do not second-guess my decisions.
EJ: And John is dead, so it's... all's well that ends well.
Stefano: I know that you do not want to believe the truth and that you really still would like me to be your father.
EJ: Because for most of my adult life, you were my father.
Stefano: Yes, and I believed that I was your father, all right, but now it's different.
EJ: Doesn't have to be. Unless you want it to.
Stefano: You know, I know that you figure it's just the two of us and we're the only ones that know about this, so that maybe we can do pretend. But, Elvis, life does not work that way.
EJ: Hmm. Well, then you leave me no other choice.
Stefano: Hmm. Do I hear a threat coming my way?
EJ: You know... for years... I watched you. I scrutinized everything that you did, every move that you made, every action, every reaction. Because I thought that one day I would become your successor.
Stefano: Well, you were a good pupil.
EJ: I was. I learned at your knee. I learned how to be cold.
EJ: I learned how to be ruthless, how to be unforgiving. And now that I can no longer apply all of those traits towards the DiMera legacy... I'm putting you on notice... old man. Everything you taught me, I'm using against you.
Lexie: Is Theo still doing his homework?
Celeste: He's totally absorbed in a book.
Cameron: Okay, you're on.
Lexie: I'm on? Okay. Hi, Theo. It's Mom. Your Grandma Celeste had the best idea, that I make some videos for you to watch as you're getting older and start having questions about me, and, you know, wondering what I would tell you if I was here with you. [Sighs] Goodness, where to begin? Looks like... I won't be around to share in some of your important moments in life. I am so sorry, honey. But even though I won't be with you any longer, so many people who love you will be. And they're all gonna want to share adventures and secrets with you. So give 'em a chance, okay? I know you don't like a lot of mushy stuff. But I'm your mom, so I'm allowed. You... are my angel, Theo... my gift from God... my heart. Nothing, not even my having to leave you, can ever, ever change that. I was thinking... that maybe we could have another secret. You know, a private way for you to find me whenever you miss me. So here's what you do. You go someplace very quiet and you listen. You listen for my whisper. Because here's what I'll be saying... "I love you, my darling, darling Theo." Never ever forget that your mommy loves you. Stop, stop it. [Sniffles] Stop it. [Sniffling]
Bo: Come on, Shane. You know it makes sense.
Shane: All I'm worried about is smuggling the two of you, out of here and back to that safe house all in one piece.
Hope: No, not yet. Shane, we're already here. And I could use some time on the computer to find out more about this jeweler.
Shane: [Clears throat] Okay. Well, you should be all right here while I'm gone. Door's locked with a coded lock, so no one can get in.
Billie: Shane, let me walk out with you. I'll let you know if I hear anything from EJ.
Bo: Okay. It's good to have you on the team.
Hope: Yes, it is.
Billie: Thanks. I want to bring Stefano DiMera's reign of terror to an end. So I'm glad to be here.
Bo: Whoa, not so fast there, computer whiz.
Bo: What? Hey, hey. These past few days have been crazy. We haven't had any time to ourselves and now we do. First things first.
Rafe: Ugh. Carrie. You didn't tell him.
Carrie: I tried. I tried to tell him that our marriage was over.
Rafe: I'm sure you did.
Carrie: Then why couldn't I do it?
Rafe: 'Cause it's hard to hurt someone you care about.
Carrie: But I'm in love with you.
Rafe: Well, yeah, and Austin's in love with you. Come on, don't beat yourself up over this, okay? Chances are he'd probably just hear what he wanted to hear anyway.
Carrie: But it makes me wonder, are we doing the right thing?
Stefano: Elvis... you don't want me as an enemy. Why don't we just declare peace and we each go our own way?
EJ: I'm afraid it's not that simple, Father-- Stefano. You see, I've spent years preparing for the day when I would take over this little empire of yours, when I would take over this DiMera legacy. You don't seriously think I'm going to let all of that slip through my fingers, do you?
Stefano: You don't have a choice.
EJ: Well, you're not going to live forever, old man. And what do you think will happen to everything you've built when you die?
Stefano: I don't think I'm going to go anywhere for quite a while.
EJ: Well... who do you think will take over when you're gone? Chad? Theo? I don't think so. If you're very lucky, and you manage to stave off the prison sentence for the six people that you killed... you get to live in this cold house with your tragic opera and your little hand-carved chess pieces on your own. Sort of in a prison of your own making, if you will. Check.
Harmon: Hey, Becky. Is Shane Donovan around?
Becky: You just missed him, Agent Harmon.
Harmon: Damn. He's got a report I need for a meeting with the big guns in the morning. Did he say when he'd be back?
Becky: I'm afraid not.
Harmon: Uh, maybe he left it for me to pick up. Which office is he using? Oh, you're not supposed to say. Well, it'll be your head when I tell the bosses I couldn't get that report.
Becky: Agent Harmon.
Becky: He was working in there.
Harmon: Thank you, Becky. I'll be sure to put in a good word for you at review time.
Hope: Did you hear something?
Bo: All I heard was the pitter-pat flip-flop of my heart. [Snickers] Where was I? Come here.
Lexie: What is that? Oh, you're so sweet. Thank you, sweetheart. [Whispers] Oh, God.
Rafe: Your father doesn't think we're doing the right thing.
Carrie: You talked to him?
Rafe: Well, he asked. I was honest and... so was he. Thinks I should keep my distance from you.
Carrie: Oh, God.
Rafe: Which I'll do. If that's what you want.
Carrie: What I want... is to be with you.
Stefano: Get out. You're not welcome here.
EJ: You know it doesn't have to be this way. I would've stood by you no matter what. Just remember, you pushed me away. Maybe I should count my blessings. Only a really soulless bastard could do what you did to me. I suppose in a way I'm rather lucky that you're not my father. Because it's going to make becoming your worst nightmare so much easier.
Harmon: Why didn't you tell me the door was locked?
Becky: I just assumed that Agent Donovan had deactivated it when he left.
