Marlena: Hey, handsome.
John: Hey. Oh, thank you. Thank you. I'm sorry we couldn't talk last night. Um, how's Carrie?
Marlena: Mm. Carrie's, uh, having a hard time.
Marlena: I'm so glad we're here in Salem to be here for her, for all of our family.
John: Me, too.
Marlena: Hey, what's the matter?
John: [Sighs heavily]
Marlena: What's the matter?
John: What makes you think something's the matter?
Marlena: I know you. I can tell something's going on. What is it?
John: Well, I didn't want to bring this up last night because I knew you had a lot on your mind.
Marlena: Okay, I'm scared now.
John: No, no, it's just that what I'm about to tell you - it's gonna complicate our lives a little bit.
Marlena: All right, we'll deal with it. Our marriage is good and strong. Nothing can change that.
John: Well, that's just the thing. Our marriage. It's good and strong. It's just not legal.
Marlena: [Laughs] What?
John: Technically, legally, I'm married to Hope.
Bo: Hey, you're awake.
Hope: I am, and I was almost the entire night. I'm sorry if I kept you up tossing and turning.
Bo: No, no, I was right there with you.
Hope: Thanks for the tea.
Bo: Don't worry, we'll solve this here problem.
Hope: Brady, please, just tell this is all a really bad dream, that last night wasn't real, and that any minute I'm gonna wake up, refreshed, still married to you.
Bo: Hey, you are-- you are still my wife. I don't care what this thing says.
Hope: Yeah, but technically, if this is real, we're not married.
Bo: Whoa, whoa, I don't give a damn what that says. You're my wife, I'm your husband...we know what we mean to each other. We don't need that to tell us.
Hope: I know that, but--
Bo: No buts. Nothing in this world-- not that, not Stefano DiMera-- can change how I feel about you. I love you, Fancy Face, and I will till the day I die. Clear?
Rafe: Carrie? Carrie?
Carrie: Uh, you're sleeping, I'll come back later.
Rafe: No, no, no, no. I shouldn't be sleeping here anyway. I just didn't know where else to go. Sami asked me to leave.
Carrie: I figured.
Rafe: Yeah. How'd things go with you? You're not sleeping at your desk, so I guess Austin didn't kick you out.
Carrie: Uh, no, he didn't kick me out, he just avoided the entire situation. He didn't come last night, and I don't know where he is.
Abigail: Good morning. [Giggles]
Austin: Abigail. Uh... I'm--I'm dreaming, right?
Abigail: No. It's not a dream.
Abigail: It's very real.
Austin: Oh, God. Oh, boy. [Exhales heavily] Ugh.
Abigail: Are--are you okay? Do you have a headache?
Austin: Oh, yeah.
Abigail: Oh, I'll get you some aspirin.
Austin: Uh, Abigail, here. Why don't you, um, put some clothes on, huh?
Abigail: [Laughs] Yes, you are right, because we wouldn't want anyone walking in, would we?
Austin: Mm. Oh, uh... I drank all this?
Abigail: Yeah, you did. But it's okay. I don't blame you. You were kind of a wreck last night.
Austin: I was?
Abigail: Yeah, after what Carrie did to you, I'm just so happy that I could be here for you.
Austin: You were here for me?
Abigail: Of course. Austin... I would do anything for you. I kind of thought after last night, you figured that out.
Austin: [Exhales heavily]
Rafe: Oh, I'm sure Austin's just letting off some steam. Come home soon as he cools off.
Carrie: To be honest, I'm not sure what will happen when he does because, you know, there's nothing I can say. I feel terrible.
Rafe: Hm. I know exactly how you feel. No matter how many times I explain it to Sami that it was a huge mistake, that it didn't mean anything--
Carrie: Right. It was a huge mistake.
Rafe: It didn't matter how many times I apologized. Didn't make a difference.
Carrie: Rafe, I'm so sorry.
Rafe: Why are you sorry? I kissed you.
Carrie: But--[Laughs] I kissed you first.
Rafe: Yeah, well. It was-- we kissed each other. Right? And it's so weird, because I don't even know how it happened. One minute, we're hugging, and then the next--
Carrie: I know, I know. And I-I-I should've seen it coming.
Abigail: Austin, can I tell you something, and you promise you won't laugh?
Austin: [Laughs awkwardly] Uh, my head hurts too much to laugh.
Abigail: I have had feelings for you for so long now. I can't even tell you how many times I have fantasized about us being together. Last night-- last night was like a dream come true for me.
Austin: Abby... [Laughs awkwardly] I drank a lot. And--and--and I'm only getting just bits and pieces right now. I mean, I-- I-I know that I-I kissed you. Yeah?
Abigail: Uh, yeah, there was definitely some kissing involved.
Austin: And I'm so sorry because I feel like such a jerk. We slept together... and I don't even remember it.
Abigail: We slept together.
Austin: I mean, y-yeah. That's-- that's what happened, right?
Abigail: Austin? Austin, wake up. Austin, I...
Austin: I am so sorry if I hurt your feelings. I mean, I just drank so much last night that everything is just a-a--it's a blur.
Abigail: Don't apologize.
Austin: No, Abigail, you gotta understand. You are an amazing friend to me. A-and not to mention, uh, a student. And--no, and I took advantage of you. I cannot tell you how sorry I am.
Abigail: Austin. You did not take advantage of me. Trust me.
Abigail: No, listen. Last night was really special to me. You have nothing to feel sorry about, nothing at all.
Hope: I know that this marriage certificate doesn't change anything between us, but it's like you said. When it comes to Stefano DiMera, nothing's as simple as it seems.
Bo: First we gotta find out if that thing is legit. And I should be hearing back from my pal in a little while. But listen. No matter what happens, we'll-- good shot. No matter what happens with that, we're in this together. We're a team. Nothing's gonna change that, okay? Nothing.
John: Yeah. Hey.
Marlena: I don't believe it. This--it just-- it can't be true.
John: And it might not be. For all we know, Stefano's just messing with us. We're just gonna have to wait and see.
Marlena: Damn him.
John: Hey. Easy, girl. Like you said, we're gonna get through this.
Marlena: I know, but how much do we have to go through? He's tortured us for years. How much more do we have to take?
John: I don't know. But we can't let him get to us. That's what he wants. He's trying to tear us apart.
Marlena: I'll tear him apart. You know all I really want? A sweet, tidy, yummy little life with you.
Marlena: I'm gonna go see him.
John: Doc, you can yell and scream at him all you want. It's not gonna change our situation.
Marlena: No, you're so silly. I'm not gonna yell and scream at him. I'm gonna kill him.
John: Listen to me. I know how you feel. I'd give my right arm to see the bastard burn in hell, and he will. But right now, you and I are gonna stick together. We need to keep our cool.
Marlena: I'm just so tired of it. I'm just so, so tired of it. [Sighs]
John: I know. It's okay.
Carrie: Austin and I, we-- we love each other so much. But we haven't exactly had a picture-perfect relationship.
Rafe: Well, yeah, because they don't exist.
Carrie: I know. You're right. It's just that we had a really long, tortured road to the altar.
Rafe: I heard. But once you guys got there, things were great, right?
Carrie: They--they were great, yeah. I mean, like I said, it-- our problems started the day we came back to Salem.
Rafe: Well, it makes sense. That's a lot of stuff to deal with. John's case, Marlena, Sami. It's a lot of baggage for you and Austin.
Carrie: It was my idea to stay in Salem, and I don't regret it, you know. Um, I thought it would be good for all of us.
Rafe: Yeah. Me too.
Carrie: And this whole work situation--you know, being our own bosses, flexible schedule-- I thought we'd have time to hang out with the family and... [Laughs]
Rafe: Hasn't exactly worked out that way, has it?
Carrie: Somewhere along the line, things got complicated.
Rafe: Yeah. I hear what you're saying. And as much as I hate to admit it, I think we have a decision to make.
Austin: Abigail. You know how I feel about you, right? Abby, you are smart. You're funny.
Abigail: Austin, I feel the exact same way about you.
Austin: Uh-huh. Look. You have been an incredibly... loyal friend to me the past couple of months. And I'm very grateful to you.
Abigail: Austin, listen.
Austin: But listen.
Abigail: We have danced around our feelings for a really long time now, and it's been hard. It's been really hard because I'm your student and because of your wife, because of Carrie. But now everything has changed. We can finally be together. How incredible is that, that just one night has changed our whole lives? And I'm so happy.
John: Life's thrown us curve balls before.
Marlena: Stefano has.
John: Well, we've always come out stronger than before. And this is no different. You know, we've faced a lot worse than this.
Marlena: I know. Believe me, I know. But it's exhausting, I mean, having to worry about the next time he feels like throwing a knife at you.
John: I know.
Marlena: We shouldn't have to be worrying about having somebody after us all the time. I mean, John, we have children. We've got grandchildren, and they need us.
John: Exactly. That's why we gotta stay strong, so we can be there for them.
Marlena: Carrie needs us. Sami needs us. Will needs us. Oh, if he ever tries to come after my grandchildren--
John: Well, if he saw the look on your face right now, he wouldn't dare.
Marlena: He's never going to control us again. Not ever.
John: That's right.
Marlena: Okay. What do we do now?
Austin: Abigail. You need to listen to me. Last night was a mistake. I was upset over Carrie. I had too much to drink.
Abigail: Stop. That's not how I exactly pictured our first time, too, but next time--
Austin: Abby, Abby. Listen. I'm a married man.
Abigail: You can't feel guilty about this. Carrie broke her vows first.
Austin: Abby... you're not listening to me.
Abigail: Wait, um, I have to run to class. Uh, but we can talk about this later if you want. Um, we can go to dinner tonight. Uh, where--where do you want to go? Wait. Actually, I'll surprise you. I'll make a reservation somewhere, and then we can talk about this some more, okay?
Abigail: Bye, Austin.
Austin: Abby, you can't-- just don't--
Rafe: I think you should find yourself another investigator.
Carrie: Are you--are you sure that's what you want?
Rafe: It's not what I want, Carrie. It's not what I want. It's what has to happen. Us--[Scoffs] Working together like this, it's--it's not good. Not anymore.
Carrie: No, you're right. I mean, that's the right decision, of course.
Rafe: I'm sorry. I really am.
Carrie: Hey, we messed up, and there--there are consequences, you know?
Carrie: It's not like our business was doing so great anyway.
Rafe: [Chuckles] Yeah, right?
Carrie: So what are you gonna do?
Rafe: I'm going to, uh-- I'm gonna save my marriage. I'm gonna try and get Sami to forgive me. Can't lose her.
Rafe: I can't.
Carrie: No. Well, she loves you, Rafe. She really--she really does. I know that, and... she would be an idiot to let you go. She wouldn't dare.
Rafe: Yeah. Well, thank you.
Carrie: No, I thank you.
Rafe: Here. It's my key to the office.
Carrie: Um, no. You know what? You-- you keep it, and then you can, uh, pack up your stuff when you need to.
Rafe: Okay. Hey, thanks for-- for understanding.
Carrie: Oh, no, thank you. Good luck.
Rafe: Yeah, you too. Good luck. Okay. Okay.
Rafe: I'll just go. Well.
Bo: You know, there's something wonderfully ironic about this whole situation.
Hope: Oh, my God, please. Yes, find the silver lining, I beg you.
Bo: Yeah, when I was a kid and went fishing with Pop, sometimes we'd be out there late, looking at the stars, constellations... and he'd explain Greek Mythology to me. You know what was in Pandora's Box?
Hope: Yeah. All the evil in the world.
Bo: And in the bottom was Hope.
Hope: How could I forget that?
Bo: Right. So Stefano can try to sabotage our marriage, but he will never comprehend our love and how much we share.
Hope: You're right. He never could.
Bo: No. I have loved you most of my life. Fancy Face, you're the best part of me.
Hope: Back at you.
Bo: So he can try to come between us. But he can't.
Bo: He'll never win. Never. [Growls]
John: Here's what we're gonna do.
Marlena: All righty.
John: We are gonna keep on keeping on with our lives, regardless of what that-- that document says.
Marlena: That should be easy. Tch, silly me. I'll just go on to work like my husband isn't married to somebody else.
John: See? Piece of cake.
Marlena: How do you do it? How can you stay so calm?
John: Well, Doc, because the way I see it, it's a win-win situation for me.
Marlena: What does that mean?
John: If it's a fake, I'm still married to the love of my life. No harm, no foul.
Marlena: Yeah, yeah. And if you're--if you're-- if you're not?
John: And if I'm not, and I'm married to Hope, well, then we get a quickie annulment, and you and I have a lavish wedding that the town of Salem will be talking about for years to come.
Marlena: We can't afford that.
John: Okay, how 'bout a modest one with a little bit of flair?
Marlena: Much more our style.
John: You know, I would marry you in a damn bowling alley on league night. I don't care, Doc. As long as I have you in my life for the rest of my life, that's all I care about.
Marlena: Are you trying to distract me?
John: Is it working?
Marlena: Little bit.
John: If I take you out to breakfast, will that work?
Marlena: Little bit. Yeah. But I might have a better idea.
John: What would that be?
Carrie: Oh, boy.
Carrie: I'm so glad... you're here.
Austin: Me too. I am so... so sorry that I didn't come home last night.
Carrie: It's okay. You had every reason not to.
Austin: Carrie. There's something I need to tell you. I am so... so sorry.
Carrie: Please, don't apologize. I'm the one that screwed up.
Austin: No, no, no. I-I-I'm the one. I walked out of here, and I should've talked things through with you.
Carrie: You had a pretty good reason not to. [Scoffs] Austin.
Austin: Just let me finish. Okay? I was hurt, and I left. And you deserve so much better than this. And I should've stayed and fought for our marriage, but instead, you know what I did? I went to the nearest liquor store. And--[Sighs] Oh, Carrie. I promise you that I will never turn my back on our marriage again, never.
Carrie: I don't know what to say.
Austin: Just tell me you'll forgive me.
Carrie: Are you--are you forgetting that I kissed another man?
Carrie: And--and you shouldn't. You can't come in here and be nice and apologize to me. What the-- what the hell is wrong with you, Austin? I should be begging for forgiveness, not the other way around. This--this--this is all my fault. All--everything that happened. This is my fault.
Austin: It's okay. It's okay.
Carrie: No, it's not okay. I don't know how I will forgive myself, so how can I expect you to? How will you ever forgive me for what I've done?
Hope: Okay, that was good. Thank you. I feel much better.
Bo: Oh, good, I'm glad.
Hope: Little better, anyway.
Bo: Okay, good. Hey. What--stop-- will you give it time? He'll call.
Hope: What's taking so long?
Bo: It--relax. Take a breath. Come here, come here, come here. Come here.
Hope: Oh, Brady. How do we always end up in these situations?
Bo: Well... you usually do something cute and sexy, so I can't help but kiss you--
Hope: Stop it. That's not what I'm talking about.
Bo: Yeah, I know, I know.
Hope: I just don't get it.
Hope: Stefano has a wife. He has kids. He has a family. What--
Hope: Can't he just leave ours alone?
Bo: No, he's jealous. I mean, he may have all that stuff, but, uh, he's missing one crucial element.
Hope: What? What's he missing?
Bo: A heart. That man is empty inside. You know, he can't stand to see us, when he knows we're gonna live happily ever after. 'Cause he knows he never will.
Hope: You wanna know what I can't stand?
Bo: What's that?
Hope: Talking about Stefano DiMera in this bed.
Bo: Oh, yeah, gives me the heebie-jeebies. Ew! I gotta get rid of 'em!
Abigail: Hey, my class was canceled. Maybe-- Austin? Wonder where he went. Maybe I should tell him the truth. Maybe I should stop talking to myself, because no one dates a crazy lady. [Sighs]
Austin: There's nothing to forgive. We've both made mistakes. I mean, you know that, and I know that.
Carrie: It--it was. It was a terrible mistake, and I-I will do whatever it takes to make it up to you.
Austin: Just be with me. That's all I ask. I love you so much, Carrie.
Carrie: I love you, Austin. I'm so sorry that I lost sight of that, of what is real. And I promise you I will never let that happen again. I promise. Iím so glad you came here this morning.
Austin: I just wish I wouldn't have stormed out last night.
Carrie: But you're here now. [Exhales sharply] And I have something that I have to tell you.
Carrie: Rafe and I will no longer be working together.
Austin: Are you sure you want to end your partnership?
Carrie: You don't want me to?
Austin: I just want you to do what makes you happy. If it's working with Rafe, it's working with Rafe.
Carrie: After everything that happened?
Austin: I trust you, Carrie.
Carrie: Wow. I-I have to say, I-I don't think I could be that understanding in your position.
Austin: If I had been a better husband to you, maybe we wouldn't be in this situation right now. All I know is you are my number one priority. This marriage is everything to me. I'm gonna do whatever I can to make it better.
Carrie: Me too. And I-I think it's best for everyone that Rafe and I go our separate ways.
Austin: Only if that's what you want. Because I just want us to be us again. I-I-I want things to be back the way they were before we came to Salem.
Carrie: Me too. I wish we could just turn back time and start over again. I promise you I will not make the same mistake again.
Marlena: Sami, hi. It's mom. I'd like you to join me for lunch today if you can. I know things have been a bit uncomfortable between us, but I'd like to see you. So maybe you'll call me back. I love you. Bye-bye.
John: Here you go, baby.
Marlena: Oh, thank you.
John: Who's that?
Marlena: Leaving a message for Sami.
John: Mm. You look worried.
Marlena: Well, you know what? I am. I'm worried about Sami, and I'm worried about Carrie. I've got a feeling something bad is going to happen.
John: Want to talk about it?
Marlena: I can't. It's confidential.
John: Mm, yeah. Understand.
[Cell phone rings]
John: Bo. Hey, it's John.
Bo: Hey, man. I wanted you to know I heard from my contact. We should have some answers within the hour.
John: All right, listen. Doc and I just stopped into the pub. We sat down for breakfast. But I'll have 'em wrap it up, and we'll meet you, okay?
Bo: No, no, no. You hang out there. We'll come and meet you. And you're right. The four of us should be together when we get these answers.
John: All right, I'll see you soon.
Hope: Hey. Well, anything?
Bo: Yeah. We'll have some answers within the hour.
Hope: I just can't believe this. I've been so anxious all morning, waiting for the phone to ring, and now I-- I don't know if I can handle the truth, Brady.
Austin: I am so sorry that I turned my back on you.
Carrie: Austin, please, would you stop saying that? Actually, you know what? I'm glad that you left last night.
Austin: You are?
Carrie: Yeah, because, uh, after you left, I called Marlena, and she helped me to see things clearly for the first time in weeks.
Austin: What do you mean?
Carrie: [Sighs] She helped me to see that all marriages, even the happiest, strongest ones, need work every day. And I was too selfish and wrapped up in my own little world to see how little time that I was putting into us.
Austin: Yeah, and I haven't made things any easier.
Carrie: Well, at least you made an effort. You kept trying to set up dates, and I wouldn't even meet you halfway.
Austin: Would you just please stop punishing yourself? Okay? We both made mistakes. And now's a chance for us to start over, just to forget what we've done and focus on making us better.
Carrie: I wish it c-- was that easy.
Austin: It is that easy. It's that easy. We don't--all we have to do is just let go. This is gonna be a new beginning for the both of us.
Carrie: I want that so much.
Austin: Me too.
Marlena: You know, I said--
Hope: Hey. Hi, guys.
John: Appreciate you making the trip.
Bo: Yeah, I assume you've told Marlena all the exciting details?
Marlena: Every last one. Thank you so much.
Hope: I'm so sorry that you guys were roped into all this drama.
Marlena: You're not to blame. We know who is. Besides, I wouldn't know how to behave if I didn't have some drama in my life.
Hope: Still--still, all the same, I am so sorry.
Hope: I had to know what Gran was hiding.
Bo: Hope. You didn't know. No one did.
John: You know, I think we're getting ahead of ourselves here. I mean, we don't even know if this document is real or not.
Hope: True, but still. I mean, I don't see what's in it for Stefano if it is.
John: Ah, just the sheer delight of watching us all squirm.
Marlena: He likes to torment us. [Cell phone rings] And he knows that what you did years ago was something we all want to forget.
Bo: Excuse me. Brady. Yeah, yeah, no. Uh-- where? Okay, yeah. Thanks, Paul. I appreciate it.
Hope: What? What? Brady, what did he say?
Rafe: [Thinking] "Sami, I stopped by to pick up some of my things... not because I wanted to, but because you asked me to. I know you're angry with me, and I know I have betrayed your trust. But I promise you... what happened with Carrie was a mistake. I love you. I want you. Nothing has changed that. So I'm gonna give you the time you need. But please know that I will never give up on us. I'll do everything I can to make things right. Love Always, Rafe."
Austin: Carrie, you have no idea how happy you've made me.
Carrie: Austin, I've made you happy? Thank you for--for forgiving me.
Austin: You know what? I have an idea. Let's get outta here. Let's go on vacation. Let's go to Hawaii.
Austin: What? You don't want to go to Hawaii? Let's go to Fiji.
Carrie: Are you forgetting something?
Carrie: Your job? You can't just pick up and leave in the middle of the semester.
Austin: Okay, then. Let's just go on a long weekend, then.
Carrie: [Sighs] Perfect. [Cell phone rings] You're not gonna get that?
Austin: No, no. I'm gonna deal with that later, because right now, all I want to do is focus on you.
Abigail: Hey, Austin. It's me...Abigail. I just wanted to let you know that I'm around if you wanted to maybe get together or figure out our plans for tonight. Um, see, the... thing is, I can't stop thinking about you. And no matter what happens, I want you to know that last night was really special to me. So thank you. And I'll talk to you soon. Okay, bye.
Bo: That marriage certificate is real. You guys are married.
Hope: No. No, no, no, no. It can't be. It's gotta be some sort of mistake.
Bo: It isn't a mistake, Hope.
Hope: It can't be real.
Bo: The same records were found at the town clerk's office in Alemania.
Marlena: What a bastard.
John: Let's not get worked up, Doc. We all knew this was a possibility. Stefano fabricated entirely new lives for us before. This is just more of the same.
Hope: I just thought that part of our lives was over forever.
Bo: It is.
Hope: Yeah. All right. So we know the truth. We can move forward now. Look into annulment proceedings.
Marlena: I don't know why I thought it would be so much easier than this. Stefano put the papers in that safe deposit box. And he thought of that as his trump card. We know Stefano. This isn't over yet.
