Hope: "True love's the gift which god has given to man alone beneath the heaven. It is not fantasy's hot fire whose wishes soon granted, fly. It liveth not... [Sighs] In fierce desire." I mean, is that romantic or what?

Bo: [Imitates snoring]

Hope: Seriously? Are you kidding me right now? Brady.

Bo: Wha--? [Laughs]

Hope: You gave this to me! Very funny.

Bo: Yeah, whoa, whoa, whoa. [Laughs] Yeah, pop introduced me to sir Walter Scott--his favorite poet.

Hope: Oh, I can just imagine your dad. Shawn Brady trying to read Bo Brady poetry.

Bo: Yeah, I was pretty much a brat about the whole deal...

Hope: I bet.

Bo: But I appreciate it now. And why are you reading from this old, tattered book? I gave you a brand-new first edition.

Hope: It's... it's too valuable. And besides, I have a very... sentimental attachment to this one.

Bo: Well, I have a sentimental attachment to you. Come here, you.

Madison: Mmm...

Brady: Pick it up.

Madison: Die, die, die!

Brady: No, no, no, are you ser--

Madison: Die.

Brady: Are you serious right now? You did not just beat me at this game.

Madison: Apparently, yes, I did.

Brady: Nobody beats me at this game, Madison.

Madison: Well, I just--just did, Brady. Sorry.

Brady: You've ob--well, you've obviously played this before, right?

Madison: I have never played this before.

Brady: 'Cause you couldn't have beat me if you hadn't played this before.

Madison: I told you, I didn't have time for things like this.

Brady: I don't like to lose.

Madison: [Laughs] Clearly, yeah.

Brady: Mmm.

Madison: We are so late.

Brady: I know.

Madison: Hmm-hmm.

Brady: Well, you better collect on your winnings, then.

Madison: What, you mean before work?

Brady: Mm-hmm. Mmm.

John: Hey.

Marlena: Hi.

Rafe: Hey, how was your run?

John: Oh, it was great. Sorry I'm late. Got out there in the open, just kept going and going and going. Give me ten minutes, all right? I'll take a shower. Then we'll liquidate basic black and come up with a plan to pay off my investors.

Rafe: [Chuckles]

Marlena: What a guy, huh?

Carrie: You sure you don't want to tell John that Stefano helped get him out of jail?

Marlena: No. I don't like keeping a secret from him, but... I don't know how he'll react if I tell him.

Kate: Well, I'm here. I hope this isn't a waste of time.

Sami: Good morning, Kate. Can I offer you some coffee?

Kate: I told you-- I don't have time for games. Are you going to come to work for me or not?

Bo: [Grunts]

[Both sigh]

Hope: This feels very much like we're playing hooky.

Bo: Well, we've earned it.

Hope: Yeah, that's for sure. [Exhales deeply] You know, Ciara's very excited about spending the whole day with your mom-- ah, and her new bike.

Bo: [Chuckles] Yep.

Hope: Wait a second.

Bo: What?

Hope: There's one problem with this... most perfect picture.

Bo: Hmm? What's that?

Hope: Your wife... is starving.

Bo: [Chuckles] Oh. So I am off to make pancakes.

Hope: Make some pancakes.

Bo: Pancakes with your extra-virgin maple syrup.

Hope: Yes. I worship you, Brady.

Bo: [Laughs]

Hope: Mwah.

Bo: Back at you.

Hope: Oh, and two strips of bacon, please. [Sighs]

Carrie: So I've had a series of meetings with the board members and the lawyers from basic black.

John: And everyone's job-secured, right? No one's going to lose their meal ticket in this transition?

Carrie: Everyone is safe...

John: Good.

Carrie: But selling your shares isn't the cash-out it would have been a few years ago, John.

John: I know.

Carrie: It's going to be tight.

John: It's all right. I'll cover the balance of my account.

Rafe: Is there any way you can wait?

John: Nope, no way.

Rafe: John, you were set up. Now, if we can find the people who took the money and get it back, you don't have to give up the company, the company you've worked your entire adult life to build.

John: I know. Rafe, I can't ask the people who are getting ready to retire to wait. They trusted me. I owe them for that faith.

Rafe: It's going to wipe you out.

John: We'll rebuild. Doc and I have had that talk. We know what we're up against here, and we're willing to make the necessary sacrifices.

Marlena: We have everything we need right here.

Bo: Something tells me you are not gonna be distracted by my very romantic pancakes here. You're gonna be all worried about this key of yours.

Hope: What, did you say something?

Bo: [Laughs] Oh, come on, fancy face. You know, if we weren't personally involved with this little mystery, as cops, we would assume that this key has nothing whatsoever to do with doc and Mrs. H, that it has everything to do with some random accident--like that fell into the mold or some such thing.

Hope: I don't know, I don't know, I don't know. Maybe. I just can't help thinking that Gran wanted us to find this key there.

Bo: Okay, let's think about it again.

Hope: I am thinking about it. I keep finding out about all these secrets that Gran kept. Why she did, I... I have absolutely no idea. But I feel, all of these things--they're adding up to something, something big.

Bo: Okay, like what?

Hope: I have absolutely no idea, but I'm not letting it go.

Bo: I knew you wouldn't. That's why I called Mr. Brown, the guy who made that plaque, told him I broke it, and he said he'd make a new one immediately.

Hope: I love when you read my mind.

Bo: Yeah, well, I kind of figured you'd jump out of bed this morning and call him yourself.

Hope: Are you kidding me? I enjoyed being in bed with you.

Bo: Mmm, yeah, priorities.

Hope: [Laughs] Always.

Kate: I would like to think that you're smart enough to see a good thing when it's staring you in the face, because I'm offering you an incredible career opportunity here.

Sami: So you've said.

Kate: You don't believe me?

Sami: I just keep waiting for you to say, "gotcha."

Kate: Okay, either you believe me or you don't, but there is no secret agenda here, Sami.

Sami: [Scoffs] I mean, you keep talking about how smart I am, Kate, and if I really am that smart, then I'm not going to settle until you tell me why. After our colorful history, why do you want to work with me?

Kate: It's simple. I'm selfish. I want the best. I've been watching you, and I've decided I want you to be part of my team, period, end of story.

Sami: I don't know.

Kate: Weren't you the one who pitched the idea to market Mad World to social media before even going to print advertisers?

Sami: Yeah, I was.

Kate: Yeah, and you wrote a prospectus on eco-friendly packaging and then you came up with a tie-in to use with product promotion, right?

Sami: How did you know that?

Kate: Mad world has had a bump in the hits on their website and in their sales, and I think you working there is responsible for part of that, if not all of that, but I don't want to overstate.

Sami: This just all feels very bargain-with-the-devil-ish, Kate.

Kate: Okay, so my word has no value whatsoever, is that it?

Sami: [Laughs] You don't want me to answer that, though, really, right? Right. So... let's cut to the chase. Why are you doing this? You hate me.

Kate: You hurt my sons, and I didn't take kindly to that, and as a mother, I would think you would understand why.

Sami: Yeah, I do. I wouldn't have forgiven me either.

Kate: And I have helped you before. I put my relationship with Stefano at risk to do it.

Sami: I know you did. Why?

Kate: Because you're the mother of my grandchildren... because we're family, whether we like it or not... and because I see something in you.

Sami: What's that?

Kate: Me. We're more alike than we may want to admit, so embrace it or ignore it. It's your choice. Progresso. It fits!

Madison: You do realize that we're so late for work, it's sort of already tomorrow?

Brady: Yeah, but you know what? It's always tomorrow somewhere, right?

Madison: That's an interesting theory.

Brady: I think it was worth it.

Madison: Oh, it was totally worth it. We're still stupid late.

Brady: Yeah, so what?

Madison: So what? That's right. So what? So what?

Brady: So what?

Madison: You were right before, what you said about me not having time for anything but work. Making time for things like this, it's so important.

Brady: It can be fun, too, can't it?

Madison: Mm.

Brady: You got to have fun.

Madison: Fun too, and... more than fun. Thank you for the reminder.

Brady: Oh, honey, you are welcome.

Kate: All right. This is my very last pitch to you. And as painful as it is, on some level, I do admit that you are good at something, maybe even great. You are a savvy, quick-witted businesswoman, and frankly... hiring you is the last thing I want to do.

Sami: Wh--that's it? That's your pitch? Kate, this isn't going to work. Why don't you just take back your offer? We'll pretend this never happened. I mean, how can we work together? We can't stand each other.

Kate: You're right. I don't think I could ever like you.

Sami: Perfect.

Kate: But I do respect you. And I suspect that, after you work for me, I'll respect you even more.

Sami: I just don't know how I can believe you.

Kate: You don't think that I respect you after doubling your salary?

Sami: You're willing to write that down?

Kate: I'm going to make it contractual, guaranteed. And if you do more, then I have incentives for even greater financial rewards. Also, I do not like to hold my employees' hands, so you'll have great latitude in the way you do your job.

Sami: 'Cause, um, Madison is really something of a control freak.

Kate: I know. I'm not.

Sami: Really?

Kate: I'm not at work, and that's why I pay my employees so well.

Sami: Rafe isn't working. I really need this money.

Kate: So do we have a deal?

Sami: Yes. We have a deal.

Kate: Good. So how soon do you think you can give notice to Madison?

Sami: Well, I've been working from home today because, um, Johnny has a sore throat.

Kate: Okay, well, that's no problem. I can babysit, and you can go give her the good news.

Sami: I bet.

Kate: And when you get back, we'll hit the ground running.

Sami: I hope I don't regret this.

Kate: That makes two of us.

Bo: Hey, Mr. Brown, thanks for meeting us. I-I know you're rather busy.

Mr. Brown: I couldn't believe it when you told me the plaque broke. I mean, that thing was solid. It must have taken an act of god to break it. Well, in any event, I've already got a new one in the mold. It'll be ready A.S.A.P., No cost.

Hope: No, no, no, Mr. Brown, we're happy to cover your cost.

Mr. Brown: Oh, you don't have to do that, Mrs. Brady. The replacement cost was covered in the purchase agreement.

Bo: It was?

Mr. Brown: Completely.

Bo: Uh, that's rather unusual, isn't it? I mean, who would think to do something like that?

Mr. Brown: Well, I was paid very well. I didn't care to ask why.

Hope: Mr. Brown, there's, uh, something we'd like to ask you. This was hidden in the plaque. We discovered it when it broke. Do you have any idea how it got there? Captain, we have to keep going!

Mr. Brown: I know exactly how that key got there.

Hope: Really?

Mr. Brown: I put it in the mold. I'm glad it didn't get lost.

Bo: Lost?

Mr. Brown: When the plaque broke.

Hope: Why'd you put this key in the mold?

Mr. Brown: I was told to. I figured it was special to her.

Hope: Did my grandmother ask you to put this key inside the plaque?

[Both giggling]

Madison: Hi.

Brady: Oh, Sami, hey. Sorry we're late.

Madison: Hey, did you happen to see that email from Louis in operations? I-I--you were cc'd, you were copied, and... what's wrong?

Sami: I just need to talk to you about something.

Madison: What? The sales figures were lower than we projected, weren't they? Oh, god, I was afraid of that.

Sami: I haven't looked at the sales figures from the holidays yet.

Brady: You haven't even looked at them yet?

Sami: Well, I didn't think it'd be appropriate for me to look at those figures.

Madison: What are you talking about, Sami? I asked you for them last night.

Sami: Well, things have changed since last night.

Madison: What things?

Sami: I quit.

Carrie: This specifies that any transfer of assets is null and void if those assets are acquired by Stefano DiMera or anyone associated with him.

John: Oh, bastard's probably the one who stole the money in the first place. But speculation without proof isn't going to do us any good right now.

Rafe: Well, I will stay on this, John.

Jack: I know you will.

Rafe: And I won't stop looking for the money.

John: I get that, Rafe. I've been around a lot of good cops, but you're a great one. God willing, one day I get basic black up and running again, I could use a guy like that as head of security.

Rafe: All right. [Laughter] You're giving me a little too much credit there, but thank you.

John: Oh, come on, why not? Proving that those transactions couldn't have happened because of an internet outage--who in the hell would have thought up that idea in a million years? What was that?

Marlena: What was what?

John: All of you are looking very uncomfortable all of a sudden. Okay, if someone doesn't tell me what's going on here, I'm going to start getting a little paranoid.

Marlena: I think I should tell John about this... alone.

Rafe: Are you sure?

Carrie: We're here to help, Marlena.

Marlena: Thank you. You--you all go ahead. Please.

Rafe: Okay. We'll talk later.

Carrie: I'm sorry.

[Door closes]

John: What the hell is she sorry about?

Marlena: You were right to give Rafe... and Carrie all that praise. They worked very hard to get to the bottom of all this.

John: But?

Marlena: But they had some help. I'm just a piece of dirt stuck here in a rut.

Bo: Did Mrs. Horton ask you to put that key in the plaque?

Mr. Brown: Actually... no.

Hope: Someone else asked?

Mr. Brown: Uh, this attorney, a woman, ms. Hewitt.

Hope: My grandmother's estate attorney.

Mr. Brown: All I know is, ms. Hewitt had specific instructions--very specific instructions--from your grandmother about the plaque.

Hope: Including putting this key inside it.

Mr. Brown: Yes. I wasn't supposed to talk about this. I was supposed to put it inside, make sure it wasn't visible, and stop talking about it. I guess that's shot to hell now.

Hope: Did ms. Hewitt give you any indication whatsoever what my grandmother said this key was for?

Mr. Brown: No. I-I'm sorry. I don't know any more.

Bo: Thanks for your help.

Hope: Thank you, Mr. Brown.

Bo: You okay?

Hope: No. No, I'm not okay. My grandmother was the most upfront, tell-it-like-it-is person I ever knew.

Bo: Yeah, I know.

Hope: What is it with all these secrets? What was she hiding?

Madison: I'm sorry. I just--you quit?

Sami: Yes. I really appreciate everything that you have done for me. I-I wrote a formal resignation letter and everything to--

Brady: Wait a--wait a second. Did Rafe get a job out of town or something?

Sami: No. He's still looking for a job.

Brady: Uh-huh, and you're quitting your job.

Madison: Look... I know that you're having your hands full right now with your kids, and if you need some time off, Sami, we can work with you on that.

Brady: Yeah.

Sami: I don't need time off. I need a job. Look, I'm sorry to do this so last minute, and, um, you have to know that this wasn't easy for me.

Madison: It wasn't easy for you?

Brady: Madison, hang on a second.

Madison: No--you know what? Don't tell me to hang on a second. You are the right hand at this company, and we're spearheading a new--a new campaign that you are the head of, and you're just walking away? After the opportunity I gave you, you're going to walk away?

Sami: I really appreciate everything, and I will give you two weeks' notice and help you set up and welcome someone.

Madison: Oh, okay, good. Where are you going exactly? I thought this was your dream job. That's what you said.

Sami: It was.

Madison: And now?

Sami: I found a better one.

Brady: Where?

Madison: What the hell, Sami?

Sami: I'm going to be working at countess W.

Madison: Say it again.

Sami: I believe you heard me.

Brady: Let me get this straight--you're going to go work for Kate DiMera?

Sami: Yes. Yes, I am.

Kate: Oh, honey, I'm so sorry you're sick, but I'm really happy, 'cause it gave me a chance to visit you, spend time with you. Your grandfather and your dad would like to be here with you, too.

Johnny: I miss them.

Kate: I know you do. I'm going to tell your dad that.

[Cell phone rings]

Kate: And your--oh, here's your granddad now. Why don't you finish that picture up for him. Hello, Stefano. Hello, my love. Guess where I am right now. Babysitting Johnny. Uh-huh. Yeah, Sami's giving notice at her soon-to-be former employer right now. [Chuckles sinisterly] Oh, yes, everything is going exactly as we planned... exactly.

Marlena: John, your innocence was never in doubt in my mind... and this--this nightmare that you went through, that we went through, that never should have happened.

John: Mm-hmm. So what are you trying to say?

Marlena: I-I just-- I-I couldn't face... life without you. Somehow you--you were resigned to that, but I just--I couldn't give up.

John: And? Oh, come on, doc, I'm not pulling teeth here. Just come out and say it. What's going on?

Marlena: Bo and hope found, um, a note... uh, for Alice.

John: Alice Horton?

Marlena: It was--it was sort of--it was--it was a promissory note... sort of a-a, you know, "pay the bearer," whatever, so, um, hope thought that she could use that to--to free you... and it worked.

John: A card. Business card? Wait a minute. Someone from Interpol? Is that how Rafe got the information about this secret internet outage?

Marlena: No, no, no, it wasn't--no, it wasn't Interpol. No, it was just somebody powerful.

John: Who?

Marlena: Stefano.

Hope: I mean, it--it just doesn't make any sense. Would you hold this for a second?

Bo: Not yet, it doesn't, I'll give you that.

Hope: Gran didn't keep secrets, ever.

Bo: Uh, I know this is kind of difficult for you, but you're going to have to reframe the way you think about Mrs. H, 'cause, yeah, she has kept secrets. I mean, we got the bank statements, that note from Stefano, this key.

Hope: I know. I know all of that, I just... I keep thinking that, somehow, Gran's guiding us. But then I think, "I mean, honestly, if she really wanted us to know all of these things, wouldn't she have told us befo--" do you think maybe I'm digging too hard? Do you think she'd be furious with me if she knew?

Bo: Some secrets are never meant to be uncovered.

Hope: That's what Stefano said.

Brady: Look, you're kidding, right? Just tell me this is a big joke.

Sami: This is a great opportunity for me, Brady.

Brady: This--it's a great opportunity--to work for Kate DiMera? You remember what that woman did to you, hmm?

Sami: She's offered to double my salary.

Madison: Sorry. She what?

Sami: I need the money. I am taking care of my family. How was I supposed to turn down an opportunity like this?

Brady: By coming to me and asking me for help.

Sami: Brady, I don't need a loan. I need a career--something that I can count on in the future.

Madison: You are a mother of four.

Brady: With your former mother-in-law, are you kidding?

Madison: Really? A mother of four, Sami, and a housewife before we hired you. We gave you your career.

Sami: I thought you liked my ideas.

Madison: Yeah, I did. I just didn't know that you were going to take them to my competitor the minute she waved a stack of money in front of your face.

Brady: She's absolutely right. She gave you a chance on faith, and you are stabbing her in the back right now.

Sami: I'm sorry.

Madison: Oh, you're sorry. [Chuckles] You're sorry? Oh, wow. You know what, Sami? Just go. I've had enough of you. I don't need your two weeks' notice. In fact, I don't want you here for another two minutes. I'm not giving you anything else to hand-deliver Kate DiMera on a silver platter.

Sami: I would never do that.

Madison: Oh, well, I never thought that you'd betray us like this, but, hey, I guess I should have fired you when I had the opportunity. Clean out your desk. You got five minutes. And if you don't get out of here in five minutes, I will call security to walk you out.

Sami: Madison, I want you to know--

Madison: I don't want to hear it, Sami. I don't want to hear any--you know what? Forget what I said. Forget it. Just leave. You're not taking anything out of here that you didn't come in with. So I'll send you your little post-it notes and your little "I heart" coffee mug in the mail.

Sami: I appreciate everything you taught me and the opportunity.

Madison: Well, you got a funny way of showing it. Five minutes... or I will call security. I'm not kidding.

[Door slams]

Brady: How could you do this to her?

Rafe: Congratulations.

Carrie: Thanks.

Rafe: Opening your own law firm here in town.

Carrie: Thank you.

Rafe: I'm glad you're staying.

Carrie: Austin and I feel good about our decision.

Rafe: Yeah, and it was great having everyone around at Christmas...for the kids.

Carrie: I know. I was so pleased that we got John out before the holidays.

Rafe: Yeah.

Carrie: [Sighs]

Rafe: Yeah. Hey, would you not worry? It's a good thing that Marlena is telling John the whole story. It is.

Carrie: I know, but I think we should have stayed. We could have explained why we did what we did and...he's going to be out of his mind when he finds out what happened.

Rafe: She gave John his life back by getting Stefano involved. In time, he will realize that she had no choice.

Carrie: You don't know John the way I do. I don't know how he's ever going to accept the fact that the man he hates more than anyone helped set him free.

Marlena: John...I know this is a huge blow...a-and when I weighed it against you spending the rest of your life in prison... you know what helped me decide? I thought, "what if our situations were reversed? What if I were the one spending life in prison and you could help me?" I knew in my would make the same choice that I made. Look, it wasn't--it wasn't entirely Stefano. You--[Stutters] He gave us a very obscure little clue, and then it was--it was Bo and hope and Carrie and Rafe, they did all the brainwork on it.

John: But Stefano is the reason that I'm standing here right now, isn't he?

Marlena: Indirectly. Maybe, just a little bit, indirectly.

John: There's supposed to be a difference?

Marlena: I think so, in a way--

John: Wait. How could you do this without talking to me first?

Marlena: Rafe and Carrie knew also. And we knew that if we told you, you would say no. And I couldn't take no for an answer. I wanted you home. I needed you home.

John: Well, I am home. I am home and now I am tainted!

Marlena: No, you're not!

John: You think he did this out of generosity? Out of remorse for his sins? He never does anything without a price. There is no free ride, doc, and nothing good's going to come out of this!

Marlena: Something good already came out of this.

John: What, I'm free?

Marlena: Yes!

John: Yeah, for how long?

Marlena: Forever.

John: Until he comes looking for payback. Then how free am I gonna be?

Marlena: He can't do anything to you now.

John: How can you say that? Nothing is ever done for the right reason in that man's world. So now it's just a matter of time.

Marlena: Time until what?

John: Until he ruins our lives for good. My god, doc, you should know that better than anybody. How can you do this to us? When it comes to getting my family to eat breakfast,

Carrie: Ooh.

Rafe: "Ooh"? Something good?

Carrie: I got an email about some potential office space.

Rafe: You want me to go with you?

Carrie: You have the time?

Rafe: Really? That's, like, all I have right now, okay, Carrie?

Carrie: [Laughs]

Rafe: Come on.

Carrie: Have you been thinking about other job options?

Rafe: Well, yeah. I really enjoyed doing the investigative work for you on John's case and...I've been thinking about opening my own P.I. Firm.

Carrie: Really?

Rafe: Yeah, really, and I know it'll be hard at first, getting new clients and... everything, but just the idea... you know, to think, for once in my life, I don't have to deal with bureaucratic B.S. And not to have to answer to anyone else really appeals to me... a lot.

Carrie: You think you could answer to me?

Rafe: What?

Carrie: I mean...not me exactly, but you--we could be partners.

Rafe: Are you kidding right now?

Carrie: No, I--I've been thinking about it a lot. I--I need a good in-house investigator and I already know you're the best.

Rafe: Really, you're being serious?

Carrie: Would you really consider it?

Rafe: Uh...of course.

Carrie: Yeah?

Rafe: Yes. Okay, but I should probably talk to Sami first.

Carrie: Oh, yeah, that would be a good idea.

Rafe: I don't want her thinking I'm making some major life change without talking to her.

Carrie: Especially ones that involve me.

Rafe: Good point. Yeah. Oh, she's been really stressed out lately.

Carrie: Well, you both have.

Rafe: And so have you and Austin.

Carrie: Mm-hmm.

Rafe: But that's over now. And we're back to our normal lives and work and all the boring stuff.

Carrie: "Boring," my little sister? I don't think so.

Rafe: Yeah, you're right. Yeah. But this is good. This is good, and it's only gonna get better.

Brady: How could you do this without talking to me? Hmm?

Sami: Kate needed an answer. I am looking out for my family, Brady.

Brady: Sami, we are family.

Sami: This is business, it's not personal. Madison established those boundaries, and if she were in my situation, she would have done the exact same thing.

Brady: No. Actually, she wouldn't have, because she's loyal, and she has integrity, and she's the kind of woman that you should want to be, Sami Brady.

Sami: I can't believe you're saying that to me.

Brady: And I can't believe what a huge disappointment you are. I finally, finally thought that, "you know what, maybe Sami's grown up, and she's gonna start doing things for someone other than herself." You looked me in the face, and you lied to me. Do know what kind of person that makes you?

Sami: Brady--

Brady: The kind of person that looks out for themselves, and damn the consequences to anybody else. Your time's up. Out! Go!

Sami: [Scoffs]

Johnny: When is mommy gonna be home?

Kate: Oh, very soon, honey. I don't think mommy's errand's going to take much longer at all.

Hope: Okay. First things first, we find out what this key opens.

Bo: Well, it's definitely not a house key or apartment key. It kinda looks like a safe deposit box key to me.

Hope: [Gasps] Or a locked desk drawer.

Bo: Yeah. That narrows it down a lot... not. [Squeals] Ow.

Hope: Very funny. You have any bright ideas?

Bo: Actually, I do. Ms....

Hope: Our friend, ms. Hewitt.

Bo: Yeah.

Marlena: I knew you'd be upset.

John: But you went ahead and did it anyway, didn't you?

Marlena: I told you, John. If I had a choice of getting help from Stefano or you spending your life in prison, well, then Stefano wins.

John: Well, you can take that to the bank.

Marlena: You are home. You're free now.

John: If free is to be redefined as, I will be in debt for the rest of my life to the man I hate most in this world, yeah.

Marlena: You're not indebted to him. I told you, it was Stefano's debt to Alice. You owe him nothing.

John: You're right.

Marlena: [Sighs]

John: How can I owe a man anything when he already owns me?

Marlena: No. I would have dealt with the devil himself to keep you out of prison.

John: That is exactly what you just did. I'm Phil Michelson, pro golfer.

Bo: Ms. Hewitt's out of town for the holidays.

Hope: [Sighs] Gosh.

Bo: What?

Hope: I can't stand not having answers. I want them, even I'm going to hate them. Brady, even if Gran was involved in something really-- I'd want to know.

Bo: Well, we know why she was involved with Stefano, she helped save EJ's life when he was a baby, and he rewarded her for it.

Hope: Brady, can you imagine how many times she could've used that card from Stefano and didn't?

Bo: Well, John made good use of it, thanks for your brilliant idea.

Hope: Brilliant ideas, I'm running out of ideas. You know, every time I feel like we're almost there, we're at the end of the road, it's like someone keeps moving the finish line.

Bo: Well, it's a challenge. Good thing you like a challenge.

Hope: I do.

Bo: And we're working on this together. I think Mrs. H would like that.

Hope: I think she would love it. I have no idea where this is gonna take us, but at least wherever it leads... we'll go together.

Brady: Sami's gone.

Madison: Good. I think I might have throttled her if she was still here.

Brady: Sorry about this, Madison.

Madison: You know what? It's okay, it's not your fault. I hired her all on my own.

Brady: Yeah, but you deserve better than this. I'm so disappointed in her, but I'm more upset at what this has done to you.

Madison: I lost an employee. I didn't lose you.

Brady: [Laughs] No, you're not losing me, not a chance.

[Door closes]

Sami: How's Johnny?

Kate: Well, uh, no fever. I gave him a snack, he's napping. How'd it go with Madison?

Sami: Oh, she was thrilled.

Kate: Can we get started right away?

Sami: Well--

Kate: Good, because we have a lot of work to do.

Rafe: We need the money. No, I guarantee you, Sami's not gonna have a problem with us working together, especially now that John's out of the equation.

Carrie: I hope so.

Rafe: No, no, no, I know so. This is good. No, no, no, this is great. It is.

Carrie: [Laughing] Okay.

Rafe: God--you--cheers. Here's to the future.

Carrie: Cheers.

Maggie: I know you understand why I did that, and I understand why you're upset, but the alternative didn't offer us--

John: I can't talk about this with you anymore.

Marlena: Where are you going? John, wh--

John: I'm gonna go deal with this mess.

Marlena: Okay, well, I'll come with you.

John: No! You've done enough.

Marlena: Then I'll come with you. Do not do it.

[Door slams]

Will: Please stop trying to figure me out. I'm your grandson, and I'm fine.

Stefano: Do what you've dreamed about for years.
