Melanie: Let go of me. Beat you, beat you, ha ha ha beat that

Daniel: You so cheated. You cut through the park.

Melanie: I didn't-- there's--what park?

Daniel: Yes, you did.

Melanie: I didn't cut through a park, I won fair and square, so now do I want-- do I want cherry or do I want polar ice drinks? I think--I think I pr--I should probably have 'em both.

Daniel: I think you're spoiled, but you know what? I love you, so I'll give you both.

Melanie: Yay!

Chad: Hey, what's up, Mel? Hey, Daniel.

Daniel: Hey.

Chad: Looks like I caught the race.

Melanie: Oh, so you witnessed my amazing athletic ability.

Chad: I did and I was very impressed.

Daniel: No, no, no. She cheated. I just let her win/cheat.

Melanie: I did not cheat.

Daniel: Yes, you cheated.

Melanie: I did not cheat.

Chad: You know, it's so nice to see a family that gets along so well.

Daniel: Well, I don't know if we get along that well. Really, do we? I mean, who's the greatest dad in the world?

Melanie: You are, you are--

Daniel: Say it. Louder.

Melanie: You are the greatest dad!

Chad: I'm being serious. No, it's like not everybody's so lucky, you know?

Daniel: You know what, trust me, we had quite a ride. So we--uh, we know.

Melanie: How's Abigail? Her world's probably turned upside down now that her dad's back, right?

Abigail: Wow, you look great.

Jennifer: Oh, thank you, honey.

Abigail: I take it you have a date with Dr. Dan?

Jennifer: Um, actually--

[Knock at door]

Abigail: Oh, that must be him. I'll get it, you finish getting ready.

Jennifer: No, Abigail. Abigail, wait. Abigail, hold on.

Abigail: Dad. What are you doing here?

Jack: Abigail, I came to-- Jennifer, you look great.

Jennifer: Thank you.

Abigail: Mom. You're not going on a date with him, are you?

Sami: Jeez, Dad, it's awesome. What is it? Expensive jewelry?

Roman: Yeah, dream on, sure. Uh-huh.

Sami: Oh, I can't wait. Dad, this is beautiful. It's perfect.

Roman: Well, I just thought the junior executive at Mad World Cosmetics should have her own portfolio. I am so proud of you. You know that?

Sami: Thanks, Dad. That means everything to me.

Roman: For the record, I've always been proud. Now tell me about your job.

Sami: Uh, well... it's fantastic. Dad, it's so exciting and there's always something new and challenging and... [Sighs] It's perfect.

Roman: Let me guess. You like it.

[Laughter]

Sami: Yes, I really like it. And I love my new boss. She's awesome.

Roman: Madison James, right?

Sami: Yeah, yeah, we really clicked right from the start, especially when we found out that we went to grade school together in Colorado.

Roman: You're kidding me. Sounds like it's meant to be.

Sami: Yeah, I think so, too. And the best part is... she really believes in me, you know? She says I'm a natural.

Roman: That surprises you? Come on.

Sami: I don't know, Dad. Come on, you know, people don't always feel that way about me, especially with my track record.

Roman: You got heart, kid. That's why you'll be an asset to that company.

Sami: Thanks a lot. So I'm gonna prove to you what a great junior executive I'm gonna be by writing you a thank you note immediately. You will have it on your desk in a couple days.

Roman: Forget about that thank you note. You've got other things to put on your to do list. Have you visited your mother and John lately?

Sami: Um, well, I've just been really busy, you know, with the new job and the kids.

Roman: Sami... what's going on?

Rafe: Well, this guy's the only lead that we've got. If he can testify that John was at the clinic that night and not that cafe in Paris, then that may be enough to prove his innocence. I will, Carrie. All right. You be careful.

Austin: Rafe?

Rafe: Austin.

Austin: Yeah.

Rafe: Hey.

Austin: Was, uh, that just Carrie on the phone?

Rafe: Yeah. She was just checking in from her trip.

Austin: Yeah, right, wherever she is.

Rafe: Yeah.

Austin: You want to tell me why she would be calling you and not me?

Sami: You come on, Dad. I've been busy, I told you. Like, barely have time to brush my teeth busy.

Roman: Sami, I understand that. But come on. Samantha gene, seeing your mom is something you make time for. Unless you really don't want to.

Sami: Dad... it's not that I-- it's just that John and Mom are going through something really heavy.

Roman: Yeah, yeah, they're in a very heavy situation right now and your mom could really use your support.

Sami: I know.

Roman: Hell, even a phone call. Just to let her know you're on John's side, that you believe John is innocent.

Sami: Right. Right.

Roman: Sami.

Sami: Well, dad... I know John, okay? I know the man who raised me would never embezzle that money, not in a million years.

Roman: But?

Sami: And Rafe believes that he's innocent, I get that. But every time a new piece of evidence comes in, it just... makes me wonder.

Roman: If he's guilty after all?

Sami: Dad, we all know how much Stefano messed with that guy's mind, right? It's not his fault, but still. There are huge chunks of his past that he will never remember. I think there's a chance that he could have done this, and he doesn't even remember doing it. It's possible.

Rafe: Listen, Carrie's very busy working a lead on her case right now.

Austin: Yeah, thanks for the 411. You don't think I know that?

Rafe: Okay, all I'm trying to say is that John's case is her priority. And I'm sure she'll call you as soon as she gets the chance, okay?

Austin: Yeah, but wait, wait a second, that still doesn't explain why she's calling you. I mean, you guys aren't working together. You work for the Salem P.D., not for John's defense.

Rafe: Okay, Carrie and I are both concerned about finding the truth. And we believe John's innocence is the truth, okay?

Austin: Right, right.

Rafe: Yeah.

Austin: Or maybe she was calling you to thank you for the ride to the airport yesterday. Huh? Am I getting warmer?

Rafe: [Scoffs] I'm not doing this, okay?

Austin: No, hang on a second. Hey, wait a minute!

Rafe: Listen, just--

Austin: We're not doing anything. I wanna know why you're so involved in my wife's business.

Rafe: Okay. That's fine. Because maybe you didn't hear that a brick was thrown through John's window last night... with a death threat letter attached. So Carrie was calling me to make sure that he had protection. Okay? Satisfied? Now I'm sorry that you and Carrie are on opposite sides of this case. You asked for my advice. I gave it to you.

Austin: I don't remember asking for it. And if you think that quitting my job while Carrie works her butt off is good advice, Rafe--

Rafe: All right, listen, listen, listen. I don't want to do this, man. Okay? We're family. I don't want to do it.

Austin: [Sighs] I don't want to do this either.

Chad: Maybe--maybe that You know, Abigail's just really upset and confused. I mean, after what her dad put them through, I'm not sure she'll ever get over it, you know?

Melanie: Well, yeah, but it's not like Jack's Stefano DiMera.

Daniel: What is wrong with you?

Melanie: Uh...I'm sorry.

Chad: Maybe--maybe that's worse.

Daniel: Yeah, how so?

Chad: Well, see, Abigail said that her dad's kind of like her hero ever since she was a little kid, you know? And then he just disappears from her life for over a year. I mean, come on, that's--

Melanie: Yeah.

Chad: Wow.

Melanie: I wish there was something I could do to make her feel better.

Chad: Yeah, well, that makes two of us.

Melanie: I hope someday she's okay with him coming back into her life. 'Cause I think after what he did to you, I don't think I'll ever be okay with him.

Abigail: Mom, please tell me what is going on.

Jack: Abigail, let me explain--

Abigail: I am talking to my mother. Tell me. You're not getting back together with him, are you?

Jennifer: Listen, it's not that simple, okay?

Abigail: "Not that simple," Mom? What about Daniel? He has been so good to you, and you're just going to give that up for someone who has broken your heart over and over again?

Jack: Abigail, please, if y--

Jennifer: No.

Abigail: Don't touch me. I told you that I never want to see you again.

Chad: Well, I hope you are right, Melanie. And I hope that Abigail can find a way to be okay with her dad coming back and-- you know what, you too, Daniel. I just wish there were something that I could do to make it easier for her, you know?

Daniel: Yeah. Yeah, well, you know what you could do is, uh... just be there for her. Be supportive. That's really all you can do.

Chad: Yeah.

Daniel: But you know what? My heart just goes out to Abigail, but the truth is, um... I can empathize with Jack.

Melanie: What?

Daniel: Well, I mean, his daughter can't stand the sight of him, right? I don't know, I don't know what I'd do if, uh, you were that angry with me.

Melanie: Ha, nice save. Hopefully that'll never happen.

Daniel: Really, even if I do this?

Melanie: Well, maybe if you do that.

Daniel: Greatest dad, greatest dad.

Chad: I'm just, uh--I'm-- I'm just gonna--I'm gonna take off and let you-- let you guys do your thing. So I'm just--I'll see you guys--

Melanie: No, no, no, no. We're done running. No, we're just--we're just get like cooling...beverage... right now. We're actually gonna go shopping for Halloween costumes. Do you know what you're gonna wear yet?

Chad: Ah... haven't even thought about it yet.

Melanie: You better get on that.

Chad: Yeah, um--

Daniel: You know what? Why don't you just come along?

Melanie: Yeah, can you come? Come!

Chad: [Sputters]

Melanie: Please?

Chad: No, I-I-I can't. I don't want to intrude on your--your father-daughter time.

Melanie: It's not fa-- I can see you!

Daniel: It would intr--what?

Melanie: You're not intruding! No, no, no, it'll be great. You, um--you don't honestly think I would miss the opportunity to be seen with Salem's two finest men, do you? You see that, a little flattery?

Chad: Spitting game, Melanie?

Melanie: Little bit, yeah.

Chad: Little bit?

Roman: Well, daughter... I don't know what else to say.

Sami: Dad, there's nothing else to say. You believe John's innocent, just like Rafe does. But come on, I know you. There has got to be a part of you that sees the other side of this. It's not like John's your favorite person.

Roman: Come on, that was in the past. That has nothing to do with this, okay? Bottom line is, I know John. He's an honest man. He didn't do this.

Sami: I hope you're right.

Roman: I know I'm right. But I also know you and I know it's gonna be hard for you to change your mind, but... no matter how conflicted you feel, you still need to be there for your mom.

Sami: Daddy, okay, I'll call her right now.

Roman: All right, there you go, good, good.

[Phone rings]

Roman: Yeah, Commissioner Brady. He did what? All right, I'll call you back. All right, I, uh, need to take a rain check on lunch, okay?

Sami: Oh, okay.

Roman: All right. Talk to you later.

Sami: Bye, Daddy.

Austin: Hey, Roman.

Roman: Hey.

Sami: [Clears throat] Hello, stranger.

Austin: Stranger? And how am I a stranger?

Sami: [Nervous chuckle] I guess I just meant that I hadn't seen you and Carrie around for a couple days.

Austin: Yeah... well, Carrie's out of town.

Sami: Really? Where'd she go?

Austin: I'm not exactly sure. But if you want to know more about it, maybe you should ask your husband.

Jack: Abigail. Abigail. I know I hurt you.

Abigail: "Hurt," Dad? "Hurt" doesn't even begin to describe what you have done to me and the rest of this family. How do you...live with yourself? You disgust me.

Jennifer: Hey. You stop it right now, Abigail. Do you understand me? I know that you're upset, but you're going to say something that you're gonna regret. So stop.

Abigail: "Regret," Mom? He is the one that should be full of regret. Stepping out on his family to chase some stupid story and almost risking his life?

Jack: If I could hit rewind and change everything, change the whole past, I would. But that's not how it works, Abigail. It's done. I did it and I have to live with the consequences.

Abigail: Yeah, Dad. You know what, so do we.

Jack: I don't know what to do or what to say to convince you how sorry I am other than say I will work every single day to make this up to you. I will. [Whispering] I will.

Jennifer: Jack, just... can you give me a minute? Please.

Jack: [Scoffs] Yeah, sure.

Jennifer: Will you come over here and sit down? Please. Right now.

Abigail: What is the point, Mom? I know what you're going to say, and it won't work. It won't. I'm not just going to forgive and forget him, and let him come back here and ruin our lives.

Jennifer: I am not asking you to forget. I am not. I cannot forget. But he is your father. We--we are a family.

Abigail: No, Mom. We are a family. You and me and J.J., that is our family. How can you take him back? How can you do this to us?

Jennifer: I am sorry. I'm sorry I didn't talk to you about this. And I am sorry that you are hurting.

Abigail: Are you?

Jennifer: Yes, I am. You're my daughter. I love you. But you are also a grown-up, so whatever issues you're having with your father, you need to work those out, all right? Because at the end of the day, I have a life, too. I-I have my life. And I need to do what's best for me, too.

Sami: What is that supposed to mean? Are you suggesting that my husband and Carrie are--

Austin: No, no, no, God, no.

Sami: Okay, then maybe you better tell me what you did mean.

Austin: No, I-I'm sorry. I just--I shouldn't have said that. It's just that... [Sighs] Carrie went to Europe. Somewhere. Without telling me exactly what was going on, what time she'd be back and... I mean, she called me from the airport, but I haven't heard from her since then.

Sami: She's probably pursuing something about John's case, right?

Austin: Yeah. Yes, following a-a lead. Of course, she can't tell me what it is.

Sami: So what does that have to do with Rafe?

Austin: I'm not exactly sure. I mean, he gave her a ride to the airport. And I overheard them talking on the phone, and--

Sami: What? I mean, they're working together, right? They--they want to establish that John's innocent. They both believe the same thing, so they're just working to prove that.

Austin: Yeah. Rafe works for the Salem P.D. He doesn't work for my wife.

Sami: Right.

Austin: So it doesn't matter what he believes, whether John is innocent or guilty. There's a chain of command in place. And if he helps the defense, I'll tell you what, it's not gonna be good.

Sami: What do you mean?

Austin: I'll break it down for you. Policemen gather evidence. Okay? Then it's up to the prosecutors and the defense attorneys to share it, and then they make their case.

Sami: Yes, I watch Law & Order, I get it.

Austin: Good. Well, cops don't report to either side. And if Rafe crosses that line--

Sami: What? What could happen?

Austin: If the prosecuting attorney finds out that Rafe is helping John's defense... he's toast.

Rafe: You're sure the witness can attest to this? All right. [Laughs] That's great, man. That is great.

Roman: Hang up the phone.

Rafe: Yeah, listen, Paulie, I've got to call you back. Okay, thanks. What's up?

Roman: We need to talk... about your job, Rafe.

Sami: [Sighs] This is great. I don't believe it. I mean, I know that he wants to prove that John is innocent. But really? What is he thinking?

Austin: He's thinking that he has to find proof no matter what.

Sami: Yeah, well, I wish Rafe was thinking more about his family. I shouldn't have said that. I mean, I know how important family is to Rafe. I know that. And I know he would throw himself in front of a bullet for us. And I'm sure he's doing this because he considers John family now. I just hate it when he takes risks. Any risks.

Austin: Well, yeah. I mean, you did marry a cop. I believe that comes with the territory.

Sami: You married a defense lawyer.

Austin: [Chuckles] No. Carrie and I have been fighting so much. Going back and forth about John's case. See, she desperately needs me to believe that he's innocent, but Sami, I'm--I'm telling you, I'm just-- I'm having a hard time seeing around the mountain of evidence.

Sami: I know what you mean.

Austin: You do?

Sami: Look, I really, really, really want to believe in John.

Austin: Me too.

[Door slams shut]

Rafe: You got a problem with the way I'm doing my job?

Roman: If what I've heard is true, then yeah. We got a real problem.

Rafe: Not exactly sure what you're getting at.

Roman: I just had an interesting phone call from the FBI agent who's in charge of the case against John.

Rafe: Okay.

Roman: He says you're helping the defense.

Rafe: What?

Roman: Rafe, I'm warning you. Don't push me, okay? I am not in the mood. He says you're giving tips to Carrie, exchanging information.

Rafe: [Whispers] Damn it.

Roman: But if you know, I'm on John's side. Carrie is my daughter, for God's sake, but trust me... you're not doing John any favors if you don't play this by the book. And I know I don't need to tell you how serious these implications are, so you better be damn honest with me right now. Are you or are you not slipping Carrie information?

Rafe: Yes, I am.

Sami: I was talking to my dad earlier. And you know how my dad is. He's all Mr. By-the-book and innocent-until-proven-guilty.

Austin: Yeah, I'm--I'm the same way.

Sami: Well, I didn't want to say anything to him. I don't even want to think about this, but-- but do you remember the night when you all came back? You know, that big party that we had?

Austin: Yeah, yeah. What happened?

Sami: Well, everybody was celebrating, right? Everyone was so happy for John because he stood up, because he was starting to feel better, you know? I look over at my mom and she-- she still seemed really upset. I asked her what was wrong. And she said she was really concerned about John.

Austin: And what do you think she meant?

Sami: Well, I mean, obviously she didn't mean physically, 'cause he's doing much better. So... look, he went through a lot. Stefano did a lot to him before he left Salem. I just think there's a chance-- I think he could have done it, and he doesn't even remember doing it.

Chad: I can't believe you won't tell us what outfit you picked out.

Melanie: Why? It's a surprise. Besides, you wouldn't dress in the costume I picked out for you.

Chad: Hey, I shared a very personal story from my childhood.

Daniel: Yeah, Melanie. Yeah, Halloween is a very difficult time for Chad.

Chad: You know what? It is, and thank you.

Daniel: Yes, you know... [In Dracula accent] It was very brave of you to open up like that.

Melanie: [Laughs]

Chad: Pretty sure that was-- that was Dracula that talked like that, but you know, it's very funny, very funny. I mean, if--if Frankenstein chased you down at age five, I'm sure you'd be pretty traumatized, too. I'm just saying.

Melanie: So your irrational fear of Frankenstein means you can't dress up like him?

Chad: Oh, really? Well, I think it does.

Melanie: Does it? Could've been really cute. I could've talked Abigail into being your bride. And if she didn't do it, I would've done it.

Chad: You know, it's awfully hard to say no to you.

Melanie: You've noticed?

Daniel: Yeah, just a little. All right, I'm gonna-- this is all getting very depressing, so I'm gonna get--

Melanie: Hey, I'm sorry.

Daniel: No, no, no, no, no.

Melanie: I'm sorry. I know you're going through a really hard time right now. But you know what? Jennifer's gonna come to her senses, and she's just going to kick Jack to the curb.

Daniel: Is that--oh. Just boom! Right to the curb?

Melanie: Right to the curb.

Daniel: We'll see about that. Okay, look, I'm not trying to bring down the mood.

Chad: No, no, you didn't.

Melanie: I am--I'm not really feeling very good.

Chad: You okay?

Melanie: Yeah, I just... [Groans] I think I'm... going to drink your blood!

Chad: Oh, I get--I get it. No, no, no, no-- [Stammers]

Melanie: [Groaning]

Chad: Now quit playing. Quit playing, I'm serious. No, no, I'm s--stop, stop.

Melanie: [Giggles] Come here. Come here.

Abigail: Your life? I'm sorry, Mom, but getting back together with Dad does not just affect you. What about J.J.? What about me, Mom?

Jennifer: Will you just-- just sit down for a minute? Please sit and calm down. You and your brother... you are the two most important people in my life. And that's why I need to do this. I need you to understand.

Abigail: I don't understand, Mom.

Jennifer: Well, honey, we thought that we lost your father forever. And--and he's back. I feel like God has given us some kind of second chance to fix this family, and we have to try to do that.

Abigail: And what about Daniel? You are just going to let the best thing that ever happened to you just walk right out the door?

Jennifer: No, I am not going to do that.

Abigail: Then what? What are you talking about?

Jennifer: I ju--I need you to understand this. But I-- I'm going to see your dad, and I'm going to see Daniel.

Abigail: At the same time?

Jennifer: I know. It sounds completely ridiculous.

Abigail: What?

Jennifer: I know, but I need--I need to--to walk through both of these relationships. I just need to see what's right. It's the only thing that makes sense to me right now and--

Abigail: Sense? Mom, nothing about that idea makes sense. Have you completely lost your mind?

Jennifer: You are not being fair right now, Abigail.

Abigail: No, Mom!

Jennifer: Not one single bit!

Abigail: You are not being fair! Just stringing Daniel along while you figure things out with Dad? And for what?

Jennifer: I'm not doing that.

Abigail: What has my dad ever done for you except for break your heart?

Jennifer: Your dad gave me you and your brother. That's what your dad did. And I don't expect you to understand this, but this is all I can do, this is the very best that I can do right now.

Abigail: Well, if your best involves Dad being back in our lives, Mom... then I don't want any part of this. He has only made promise after promise to us that he never keeps. And this time will not be any different.

Jennifer: Well... I'm going to have to see for myself. Because we are lucky that your father even came back from Afghanistan.

Abigail: I wish you would stop saying that! I wish he never even came back! I wish he was stuck in that stupid cave! [Sighs]

Jennifer: Jack, she didn't mean that.

Abigail: Mom.

Jennifer: Abigail's just hurting right now. You didn't--

Jack: No, no, I understand. I do, I do. Abigail has every right to feel that way, and there's a part of me that feels that way, too.

Jennifer: Don't say that. Please.

Jack: No. No. When I came back, I could see how much I hurt everybody around me, and I thought maybe it would be best for everybody if I left and never came back.

Jennifer: Jack.

Jack: But if I did that-- if I did that, I would never see you again. I'd never see your face. I would never hold you. I would never hear you laugh. And that is something I couldn't live with. Abigail, you may hate me forever. You may never forgive me. But I am here. And I'm not leaving my family again. Because being apart from my family is worse than anything that ever happened to me in that cave.

Abigail: I'm sure you mean that now, Dad. You always mean it in the moment. What happens when another killer story comes along?

Jack: Nothing.

Jennifer: Abigail. Listen to me. I'm not asking you for anything except to give your father-- just give him another chance. Please.

Abigail: I have given him chances, Mom. I have given you so many chances. I know what you're going to say. You're sorry. You've changed. I know because you say it time and time again, and nothing ever changes. So this time, Dad, I am not sticking around to see what happens. Because you have lost me. And if you can't see that, Mom, then you deserve what is coming.

Jennifer: Abigail! Abigail!

Austin: I don't even know why I'm telling you all this. I mean... I didn't mean to stress you out.

Sami: You didn't.

Austin: Okay, well, let's just not talk about it anymore.

Sami: That is a good idea.

Austin: Yeah. Guess we, uh, don't have anything else to talk about. [Laughter] [Sighs]

Sami: [Clears throat]

Austin: Since I've been in Salem, I-I've done nothing but work. Can you believe it? I mean, I think last night I probably got... two hours of sleep.

Sami: Missing Carrie?

Austin: Yeah. Think I studied the wallpaper harder than I studied for the SATs.

Sami: [Laughs] You could've downloaded a movie to rent or something.

Austin: No, the--the TV in my room is even broken. And it's the last room in the joint.

Sami: What?

Austin: It's--yeah, it's bad.

Sami: Why are you staying at a place like that? Why don't you stay here at Grandma's?

Austin: Carrie said the upstairs rooms are being remodeled.

Sami: Oh, right, yes, that. You could come stay with us.

Austin: [Chuckles] Sami, I mean, come on. Don't be ridiculous. You have four kids.

Sami: They would love to spend some time with their Uncle Austin. I don't know why I didn't think to offer sooner. It would be--it would be awesome to have you stay with us. Really. It would mean a lot. It would be--it would be great. And it would be so easy for you. And...best thing we have going for us, we don't have wallpaper.

Austin: Oh, well, that's a good thing, yeah. Um... what about Carrie?

Sami: She can't stay with us.

Austin: What?

Sami: [Laughs] Just kidding! Come on, Carrie'll be fine with it. And then when she gets back, you two can figure out where you want to stay. I'm--I'm serious, come on. We have a kitchen, we have cable TV.

Austin: You've got a husband. Sami, aren't you forgetting one thing? What's Rafe going to say?

Roman: You crossed a line.

Rafe: What line? I'm doing what I have to to clear John of these charges. Now you of all people should understand that, Roman.

Roman: And that's where you would be wrong. How I feel about John's case is immaterial. We're cops. We have a job to do, and that is to collect evidence and remain impartial.

Rafe: Well, I cannot remain impartial because John is my family, so I'm going to do what I have to do to prove he's innocent.

Roman: And I repeat, that is not your job.

Rafe: My job...is to find the truth. And the truth is, John is innocent.

Roman: You will do what I tell you to do. You work in my house, you follow my rules.

Rafe: I'm not backing down on this one. I'm not. I'm telling you, the evidence is too convenient. This whole thing reeks of a set up, and I'm going to prove it.

Roman: All right, you know what, that's all fine and good, and you might be right. But if you want to work this case, you report to me, not to his defense attorney.

Rafe: She's your daughter.

Roman: Yes, but she's also his defense attorney. And I'm the police commissioner. And I will not let a member of my team damage the integrity of this department. Is that clear?

Rafe: Okay, so you're telling me you're going to let your friend rot in jail because of protocol?

Roman: You know what I'm getting here, Rafe? I'm getting the fact that you and I are not going to reach an agreement.

Rafe: No, Commissioner. We're not.

Roman: Well, that's too bad. 'Cause I've got a department to run. And I need officers I can trust.

Rafe: [Scoffs] What are you saying?

Roman: What I'm saying is pretty clear. The FBI doesn't want you as their liaison anymore, and I don't want you compromising my department. So, Rafe, as hard as this is for me... give me your badge... give me your weapon. You're fired.

Austin: Look, even if Rafe was okay with these living arrangements, I'm... not quite so sure Carrie would--

Sami: Carrie and I have dealt with this, okay? She knows that I am a completely different person now.

Austin: Uh-huh.

Sami: I am! I am totally a whole new woman.

Austin: No, you know what? Actually, Sami, I've got to give you credit. I mean, you really have changed. I can see it.

Sami: Carrie and I have talked about stuff, okay? We've really worked through everything.

Austin: No, I understand. You guys are getting along.

Sami: It's shocking, I know. But we are sisters and we have figured it out, right? And I think you should really stay with us. I think this is a genius idea.

Austin: You know, I would like to see your kids. More often, I mean.

Sami: So? Does that mean you're saying yes?

Austin: Why not? Yeah. Yeah, I guess I am.

Melanie: Hey, hey, you--get--

Chad: Hey, come on, come on. Let me see--no, no, no, no, hey. Just a peek, just a peek.

Melanie: I don't think so!

Chad: Come on, you saw mine. You saw--oh, thank you!

Melanie: No, no, no, no! It's a surprise! Give it--

Chad: Oh, I got it, I got it. [Laughter] All right, all right, all right. I got it. Abigail, what's--you okay?

Abigail: No. I'm not okay.

Melanie: What's going on?

Abigail: How could you let this happen? I thought you loved her.

Jack: Well... I think this date's going pretty well so far, don't you?

Jennifer: I don't know what we're going to do. Why didn't I talk to her before?

Jack: Well... maybe you knew how she'd react.

Jennifer: Yeah, I guess so. And now I've betrayed her trust.

Jack: Don't say that. Don't say that. Put that on me. I did this. And I promise you, I am going to make this up to you. I'm going to make this up to both of you.

Daniel: You know.

Chad: "Know"? Know what? What are you talk--

Abigail: My mom has decided to give my dad a second chance and still see Daniel at the same time.

Melanie: What?

Abigail: You're just going to let this happen, Daniel?

Daniel: I'm not going to lose her. I won't. I'm just giving her a little space so she can figure out what she needs, that's--

Abigail: He is just going to hurt her again. Why don't you see that?

Daniel: I'm aware of that possibility. But she knows that, too, so you need to trust me. I know exactly what I'm doing. Your mom's a big girl. She doesn't need me telling her what to do. She'll figure it out.

Melanie: Okay, how about you sit--

Abigail: No, I'm fine. But you need to make me understand this, Daniel. Are you really okay with what is going on?

Daniel: No, I'm not. But I am so crazy in love with your mother, and I know she feels the same way about me. And I've got enough confidence to ride this little charade out. I'll take that risk, 'cause she's worth it.

Abigail: You could lose her!

Daniel: But I might not. I just want your mother to be happy, even if means going back to--to--to-- to Jack. I'll risk it.

Jennifer: I can't do this. I can't.

Jack: O-okay, we don't-- we don't have to go out. We can--we can just order in, order Chinese or something.

Jennifer: No, Jack, I don't mean this date. I mean--I mean us. Obviously I didn't think this through. I wasn't thinking.

Jack: What are you saying?

Jennifer: I'm saying that I don't think we should see each other anymore.

Abigail: I'm sorry, Daniel.

Daniel: No, no, it's all right. It's, uh, you know-- it's complicated.

Abigail: Yeah, I didn't mean to make a scene, though.

Melanie: It's fine. You didn't make a scene, per se. Not, I mean, a big sc-- I-it's fine. Here you are talk--I mean, you're talking to the queen of scene-making.

Chad: She's right, she does cause a lot of scenes.

Melanie: You shut your mouth.

Abigail: Believe it or not, I actually came here for a distraction, not to, uh... be the distraction.

Melanie: Well, sure. You and I will talk about this later, yeah?

Abigail: Shopping bags. What'd you guys get?

Chad: Um, Halloween costumes for the party.

Abigail: Oh, yeah?

Chad: Yeah, just, uh--

Abigail: What'd you pick out?

Melanie: The wrong outfit.

Chad: Here we go again. Oh, no, I know what you're doing and it's not going to work. I know what you're doing.

Melanie: What? I'm just tying my shoes.

Chad: Sure, sure you are.

Melanie: [Groaning] Give me back my--

Chad: Quit, quit it, quit it. Cut it out!

Melanie: I want my costume.

Chad: All right. Such a punk, such a punk, this one, this one.

Melanie: Can't do this. Only what I'm doing to you. [Giggles]

Jack: Jennifer, don't do this. No, no, no, no, no. Don't give up on me now.

Jennifer: Jack, I don't want to. I don't, but they're my kids. My kids are everything to me.

Jack: And you're doing this for your family. You're doing this for your kids, isn't that right? Isn't that what you told Abigail? Because that's what they need right now. They need their family. We all need our family. And we need to heal together.

Jennifer: [Sighs]

Jack: [Sighs] Look... maybe this is hard right now. It is hard. And the next day's going to be hard, and the day after that, and the day after that, and the day after that. It's going to be hard, but if we push through... one more day and then one more day... we're going to remember what it's like to be happy. I miss that. Don't you miss that? Don't you think Abigail and J.J. miss that, too? Please... Jennifer... give this a shot... for your family.

Austin: Yeah, it's reed. R-E-E-D. Yeah, we're checking out today. Okay, thank you.

Sami: All set?

Austin: Well, there's no turning back. You sure you want me here?

Sami: Of course. Hey, honey. Um, so--everything okay? Austin's here. He's going to be staying with us for a little while.

Rafe: It was you, wasn't it?

Austin: What?

Rafe: Huh?

Sami: Whoa!

Rafe: That's for getting me fired.

Austin: You're wrong.

Rafe: Am I wrong? Am I?

Sami: Stop it!

On the next "Days of Our Lives" --

Austin: What is all this concern with Carrie?

Sami: I kind of want to know the answer to that, too. I believe him! He didn't get you fired.

Rafe: So you're on his side?
