Daniel: No, I'm--I'm glad you're honest. I mean, it's one thing to think it in my head, to wonder if you still... but to hear you say it, uh...

Jennifer: I know. I mean, I didn't even really realize it until I said it myself. That I still love Jack. It's crazy

Jack: I knew you'd come back to me, Jennifer.

Hope: I can't believe Gran saved all this.

Bo: Pssh. What're you talking about? You saved every napkin that had, like, a dribble on it from Shawn D., J.T., Zack, Ciar-- I mean, we're gonna be pushed out of our house with boxes like these.

Hope: That's not true. You're such an exaggerator.

Bo: Hope I'm not on a wild goose chase.

Hope: Why would you say that?

Bo: Mm...

Maggie: I know how extraordinarily blessed I am these days. I don't know if you've heard. I'm gonna be Mrs. Victor Kiriakis soon.

Victor: Oh, my dear, what a grand title.

Maggie: [Laughs] Oh, I'll still allow a few to call me Maggie.

Victor: As long as I'm the only one that can call you mine.

Maggie: You are. That distinction is yours... and yours alone.

Marlena: I don't have to be announced, thanks, I know the way.

Stefano: Ahh... well, well. Marlena. My queen of the night. What a lovely surprise. And to what do I owe the honor of this visit? Oh. And without the love of your life. [Gasps] Oh, that's right. He's under house arrest. John black. Hmm. Once this town's hero, and now a despised thief. At least he has his health, huh? Salute. Was it something I said?

Marlena: You know exactly what you've done. You put this whole investigation into motion. And you conjured up false evidence so the FBI could indict John.

Stefano: Have I, now? Hmm. My goodness. I've been very busy. I'm afraid you give me a lot more credit than I deserve, Marlena.

Marlena: You know, I thought you were done with us. I thought you were over trying to cause us problems.

Stefano: [Chuckles] Would it be interesting for you to learn that I have given you very little thought since you and John have left Salem?

Marlena: Really?

Stefano: Mm-hmm.

Marlena: So, are you a little bored with domestic life? Or is marriage to Kate not keeping you occupied?

Stefano: You really think I set John up, huh?

Marlena: Damn right, I do.

Stefano: How? I'll admit that I have not paid very close attention to this case, but from what I've been told, the, um, evidence is incontrovertible.

Marlena: Of course. Because you've done what you always do. You've doctored photos, and you've paid people to falsify records.

Stefano: Do you have any proof of these accusations?

Marlena: No, you know, I don't. You've been very clever making sure you could not be traced.

Stefano: Oh, because maybe I have nothing to do with it.

Marlena: Tell me something. What pleasure do you get from dismantling our lives? I mean, when is enough enough?

Stefano: You know, one thing I've always admired about you? Your fire. But you know something? It's such a shame, because so much of it now is wasted on your husband. Obviously, you are under a lot of stress. And you're starting to take it out, you know.

Marlena: You're not the victim, here. John is the victim. And you are done harming him.

Carrie: Hi.

Austin: Hi. I think we need to talk.

Carrie: [Sighs]

Austin: About what happened at John and Marlena's earlier.

Carrie: Yeah, the whole way back here, I just--I kept thinking I don't want John's case to come between us.

Austin: And I don't want that either. Come on.

Carrie: [Gasps] Oh. Oh... Austin.

Austin: What do you say tonight we just forget about everybody else? We just concentrate on us.

Jack: Hearing you say those words again--

Jennifer: Jack, hold on.

Jack: No, no, no, you don't have to say another word. You said it all. You still love me. I was afraid I'd never hear it again, and I promise you I will spend the rest of my life making up for what I did--I promise.

Jennifer: Jack, you didn't listen to me.

Jack: No, I did. You said you still love me.

Jennifer: No, I said... I told Daniel that a part of me still loves you.

Jack: A part of you? I-- I-I don't understand. What does that mean?

Jennifer: It means that a part of me loves Daniel too.

Jack: You're in love with both of us?

Jennifer: Daniel, for me, love has always been so straightforward. You know, you either love someone... or you don't. And if you love someone, then you couldn't possibly love someone else at the same time. That's why I know this is so confusing. It's crazy, and it's insane, and it seems impossible. I get that.

Daniel: Well, apparently it's not.

Jack: Wait, Jennifer. We have been together for a long time. You and me, husband and wife. Man... and wife. Mom and dad. There's never been anyone in my heart but you. I can make you happy again, if you'll give me the chance.

Daniel: The fact that you have to ask for a chance... he broke your heart, Jen.

Jack: And I can put it back together without surgery. This is my family to put together, not yours. I made you happy, didn't I? Weren't we happy once?

Jennifer: Yes, Jack, we were very happy. And then you left. And you took that happiness with you.

Jack: If I could've come right back, I would've, you know that.

Jennifer: I know that. I know that you were held against your will. I don't blame you for that. I blame you for the way that you left. You don't understand what that did to our family.

Jack: We don't have to keep going over all that.

Jennifer: Yes, we do have to keep going over this, because you completely blindsided us. I didn't know what to do with my life. If I hadn't met Daniel, I would still be walking around in a haze, not knowing what to do with my life, and with all of the lies that you left us with, Jack.

Jack: I'm glad he was there for you.

Daniel: Are you?

Jack: But now I'm back.

Jennifer: Yes, you're back. And you know what? My heart... it still skips a beat when I look at you. Because we built a life together, Jack.

Jack: And that life doesn't have to be over.

Jennifer: You know what? We wouldn't even be having this conversation if you hadn't left in the first place.

Jack: I know, I know.

Jennifer: You know? Yeah, you know, but what does that change? You left. You counted on being the only man that I would ever love, Jack, but you know what? You're wrong. Because I could love someone else besides you, and I did. And I do.

Marlena: What do you think you're looking at?

Stefano: Oh, forgive me. I'm sorry. [Laughs] I don't mean to stare. It's just that, well... your beauty strikes me as timeless. That's all. Obviously, Europe was very good for you.

Marlena: My time in Europe was spent without my family, caring for my husband. It was not a vacation.

Stefano: Does he know where you are right now? Hmm. I thought so.

Marlena: Stefano, I'm here to warn you. Stop this before it goes too far.

Stefano: Marlena... although I see the fire in your eyes, but I still see just that little bit of doubt that you have about his innocence.

Marlena: That is a lie.

Stefano: Is it, really? You know, Marlena, you will not be the first woman who discovers that their husband may not be the man they thought he was. I'm sorry if the truth is such a bitter pill for you to swallow.

Marlena: I know what kind of man John is. And I know what kind of man you are. You have always been nothing more than a bully.

Stefano: Hmm. Well, so many of Salem's poor folks have had all their needs taken away from them. They've lost their dreams. And now, they have their retirement funds stolen right from under them. By your husband. And I'm the bully?

Marlena: John did not steal those funds.

Stefano: No? Then where is the money, hmm? How do you explain all the evidence that is so damning against him?

Marlena: I don't know. You tell me. You're the one who planted all the evidence for the police to find.

Stefano: Oh, again with no proof.

Marlena: I know you, Stefano. That's all the proof I need.

Stefano: [Laughs] Is that your argument with the judge and the jury at John's trial, hmm? You know why there is no more proof, Marlena? Because I've moved on. I have absolutely no interest in your lives.

Marlena: [Laughs] Oh, my gosh, you are unbelievable.

Stefano: Mm. But there is one thing for you to think about. Since I am not the one behind all of this, eh? Then, either John is totally guilty, or there's someone else gunning for him. Now, if he has an enemy that you know nothing about, perhaps John is not the man you think he is.

Carrie: How did you manage to pull this off? I--after you left John and Marlena's, I thought you were headed back to the station.

Austin: Well, I had a little help. It's the upside of our present accommodations. Room service.

Carrie: Room service doesn't bring flowers.

[Both laugh]

Austin: Well, maybe I made, uh, just a few stops.

Carrie: On your way back from the station.

Austin: I had a chat with Rafe.

Carrie: 'Bout what?

Austin: About life. And he pointed out something to me that... that I think we've both come to understand, which is my working for the prosecution on John's case. It could have a serious effect on...on us, on our marriage, but I--I tell you something, Carrie. I'm not gonna let that happen.

Carrie: Good. I don't want that either.

Austin: And I know we keep talking about it, but it's--

Carrie: Let's not talk about this tonight, okay? Let's promise each other, no matter what, we will not talk about work. Okay?

Austin: Okay.

Carrie: Yeah?

Austin: Okay.

Jack: I know what we're dealing with now is my fault.

Jennifer: You didn't create this all alone, Jack.

Jack: You mean him?

Jennifer: No, I mean me.

Jack: What did you do?

Jennifer: You think I'm with Daniel on the rebound?

Jack: Aren't you?

Jennifer: No, I am not. And I need you to know that, Daniel.

Daniel: No, I do. I know your feelings for me are real. I've never doubted that.

Jennifer: Good, because I want you to know--look at me. I want you to know that I have never... I have never been able to love and trust someone at the same time. Ever.

Daniel: Well, now you know.

Jennifer: Yeah.

Jack: Now she doesn't need you anymore, so...

Jennifer: So, what are you saying, are you saying that I need you, Jack? Because I don't. I have been doing this on my own for a long time, now. I don't need you.

Daniel: But you still love him.

Jennifer: I know that sounds crazy, and I know it sounds confusing, and--and I know you've only seen one side of Jack. It's flawed and impulsive--

Jack: You can stop now. That's...

Daniel: Okay, well, to be fair, you never really have talked about his finer qualities.

Jennifer: No, and he's not really the jerk that you think he is. I mean... not--not all the time.

Daniel: Okay. Well, as much as I'd like to think that he's a world-class screw-up... I've seen what an extraordinary girl Abigail is. I know J.J. is doing well. So he obviously did something right.

Jennifer: He did.

Daniel: And you. I mean, you wouldn't build a life with a complete screw-up.

Jack: And...[Clears throat] I know Jennifer wouldn't... fall in love with just anybody. Or invite that anybody into our daughter's life, which obviously has happened... unless he was a stand-up guy.

Jennifer: He's right. Which is why I am really torn. I don't know what to do. I wish you were here, Grandma, to tell me what to do. 'Cause I have no idea what to do.

Daniel: I do.

Hope: Why're you so quiet, Brady?

Bo: You got--you gotta take a look at this.

Hope: Is that it? Is that Gran's letter to Maggie?

Bo: Look--start--just start at the bottom.

Hope: Oh, my God. We need to see Maggie now. She needs to know about this. Oh, good, you're here.

Bo: Sorry to interrupt. We've got something pretty important, here.

Hope: Remember--remember I, um--I asked you if Gran had given you a letter before she died? We found it.

Maggie: Alice wrote me a letter, and she never gave it to me?

Hope: She never had the chance. It was the day before she died.

Victor: Does it explain that mysterious bank account you two have been looking into?

Bo: Yeah, yes, it does.

Maggie: You know, Alice and I were so close, I find it really hard to believe that there was something that she never shared with me before she passed on. But I'd like to read it. I mean, I'd love to read it.

Hope: Right, okay. Just, um... lemme say this first, okay? I think the reason Gran never said anything to you before is because she wanted to be sure she was right.

Maggie: Right? About what?

Hope: You should read this yourself.

Bo: You might want to sit down.

Maggie: I don't want to sit. Don't be silly, I mean-- why is everyone in this room determined to coddle me? It's a little embarrassing. Thank you. "Dearest Maggie..."

Carrie: Did you send those photos to Billie from the dedication?

Austin: No, no. I think I forgot. But she keeps buggin' me about it, so I guess I should do that. [Laughs] Can you believe that it's almost Halloween, and it's so warm outside?

Carrie: I didn't even notice. I was so buried with work.

Austin: You did it.

Carrie: Oh, sorry.

Austin: You did it.

Carrie: I know.

Austin: No, can you see? I mean, what's happened to us?

Carrie: I don't know. I don't know. How are we gonna get through this? John's case could go on for a while.

Austin: I could think of one thing we could do.

Carrie: Stop talking?

Austin: No, not really. Come here. We can stop acting like the forensic accountant and the powerful defense attorney... and go back to being plain old Austin and Carrie.

Carrie: How do we do that?

Austin: Well, I think I just have to be... a husband in love with his beautiful, sexy wife. And maybe you might feel the same way about me.

Carrie: Oh, yeah?

Austin: Mm-hmm. Now we can stop talking.

Carrie: [Laughs]

Marlena: Are you really trying to bait me, Stefano? I mean, don't you know me better than that by now?

Stefano: Bait what? All I am doing is laying out the facts as I see them.

Marlena: No. You want to manipulate things so you can get the reaction that you want. You are a coward.

Stefano: I'm not ashamed of anything I've done.

Marlena: You have done everything to hurt me. To hurt the people that I love. But that ends now. Do you understand?

Stefano: Hmm. I wonder if John appreciates how lucky he is to have someone like you defending him like this.

Marlena: I don't have to defend John. Especially not to you. John is a good man. He is the opposite of everything you embody. And that drives you crazy. That's why you keep trying to destroy him.

Stefano: You wanna know a little secret of mine? John Black gives me an inferiority complex.

Marlena: No doubt. Why don't you man up to what you've done?

Stefano: All right, Marlena, you came here to sort me out, so please allow me to return the favor, okay? It would be very wise of you to stop with all these ridiculous accusations, okay? Unless you want to make things worse for the man that you say you love so much. I've seen this before -- the old "impromptu in-law visit."

Marlena: Did you just threaten me?

Stefano: You can interpret my warning to you any way you like. But let me tell you something, Marlena. I do not appreciate the fact that you come barging into my house and accusing me of things that I did not do.

Marlena: What about the things you have done?

Stefano: Well, things I've done in the past... are hooked to only one thing. My feelings for you. But now that I have the lovely Katherine in my life, my thoughts are elsewhere. But I will tell you one thing, Marlena. You will always have a special place in my heart... but nothing more.

Marlena: Your heart. Say, Stefano, if that's all true, if you have a heart, if you have any feelings at all, why don't you prove it? Why don't you undo this mess you've made for John?

Stefano: Oh, Marlena.

Marlena: Look, only you can stop it. You know that. So give John and me the life that we deserve. I'm asking you to do that. Maybe you could... maybe you could just do it for me.

Daniel: Okay, sit down. Sit down...listen to me. You don't deserve this kind of pain. A woman like you, you brought-- brought happiness and light into my life and do things that I just... I really just sort of lost along the way. Sometimes when you look at me, I mean, all those worries, they just... I don't know, they vanish.

Jennifer: Daniel.

Daniel: No, that's true. And when I can make you laugh, there is no greater feeling in the world. None. None at all. But the thing is... I mean, now that I've experienced my life with you, I'm really not so sure how I'm gonna do it without you. Look, I know what this is doing to you. Having to choose between me and Jack. I mean, that's--that's... that's not right.

Jennifer: It's not. It's not right.

Daniel: No, it's not. Now, I know this is tearing you up. I can hear it, I see it, I feel it, I get it. And I don't want to be the reason why, so what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna make this easier on you. Yeah. I'm going to step away. And I'm gonna let you go back to Jack.

Maggie: "I wish I was feeling better today. This is news I would rather tell you in person. But when I think about it, maybe this way is better. Now you'll have time to decide if you're ready to hear this. Maggie, what I'm about to tell you is something that's gonna change your life. And you know that's not something I say lightly. But it is my hope that this news will make you very happy, once the initial shock wears off. Do you remember years ago when you and Mickey were trying to have children of your own? You two decided to try something unconventional at the time. I'd never heard of such a thing. Doctors harvesting women's eggs and storing them for future use." I can't believe that Alice remembered this. She's right, though. It was considered experimental at the time.

Hope: Keep reading.

Maggie: "I wasn't sure that I would ever understand your decision to do such a thing until I saw how happy you both were at the possibility of having a child. But eventually, you gave up. [Sniffling] You never spoke of it again until years later, you mentioned it in passing that you thought the doctors might have kept some of your eggs. And that got me to thinking... what did happen to them? So I did some investigating on my own... and guess what, Maggie. It turns out a baby was born from one of your eggs. You have another child." I have... I have a child. Another child. Another child.

Austin: I love you so much. I love you more than anything. Do you know that? Do you?

Carrie: I love you too.

Jack: Daniel, I, uh... I don't know what to say.

Daniel: Don't say anything.

Jack: Right, I mean, I'd probably just start talking and say something that would screw everything up, you'd change your mind, and then--

Daniel: Stop talking.

Jack: Right. Well... well, so, uh... here we are. I guess that's that.

Jennifer: I can't believe that you would do this.

Daniel: Life's a gamble. Right? I mean, before this guy just fell out of the sky into our lives, I, um--I couldn't imagine letting you go. I couldn't. In fact, I was so sure you were gonna agree to move in with me, I cleared out space in one of my drawers for you. Yeah, I moved an entire closet over, kinda got half of, uh, it ready for you. Got some towels.

Jennifer: Daniel. I didn't know you'd done that.

Daniel: Well, rumor has it that you like surprises. But I can't stand here and demand that you take a chance with me when you've got a chance to put your family back together. Some say that family is everything. We'll see. I want you to be happy.

Jennifer: Daniel, wait. [Sobbing] Wait, wait, wait. I know you feel like you have to make this decision for me, but I don't want you to. I don't want to lose you. I don't want to lose you. Do you hear me?

Daniel: Well, maybe you won't have to lose me.

Jennifer: What?

Jack: Well, that's just great, Dr. First-do-no-harm. Talk about raising false hopes. Now, what is Jennifer supposed to do now? Move us all out to Utah? Start seeing both of us?

Daniel: Maybe that's exactly what she should do.

Stefano: Marlena, you better get over the idea that I am responsible for anything that is going on with John now.

Marlena: How do you suggest I do that?

Stefano: I'll be honest with you. You're right about one thing. The old John, the John that I know... would never embezzle money from anyone.

Marlena: No, he wouldn't.

Stefano: But the John that we have now, who has been battered and beaten... I mean, he's been through traumas that you and I probably could never even imagine.

Marlena: And whose fault is that?

Stefano: [Sighs] You have to think about what he has been through, all right? What it could do to a man. I mean, perhaps even push him into doing things that he would never even dream about doing. I'm sorry.

Marlena: You know what really is sad? You have lied and misled us so many times, even if you were telling the truth, I wouldn't believe you. You are not going to win this time. You see, any man who has been through what John has been through, and survived it... you can't beat him. Haven't you figured that out yet? See, what'll happen is John will be vindicated, and you will be made to pay for all the things that you have done to us.

Stefano: You know, Marlena, when you talk like that, makes me feel like I'd like to be responsible for John's problems.

Marlena: How is that again?

Stefano: Well, that way, I could make sure no harm comes to you.

Marlena: [Laughs] Oh. You know what? I'm fine without your help.

Stefano: You know something? It might be time for you to take those rose-colored glasses off when it comes to John Black. Like it or not, the man is guilty. And he will be held accountable.

Austin: I don't know about you, but I think that's what we should be doing with all of our spare time.

Carrie: Yeah. Oh...

Austin: Instead of talkin' about work.

Carrie: When we're like this, everything feels so perfect, doesn't it?

Austin: Yeah. Yeah, it does.

Carrie: I don't want anything to come between us.

Austin: It won't. And I promise you that.

Jack: [Scoffs]

Jennifer: Daniel, you can't be serious.

Jack: Of course, he's not serious. The idea itself is a joke.

Daniel: Do I look like I'm laughing? I think Jack's on to something.

Jack: Jennifer seeing both of us. This is your idea of a mature and serious solution to our problem.

Daniel: Yeah. If Jennifer goes back to you, she will always wonder if she gave up on a life with me too soon. Knowing you, you'll be wondering the same thing.

Jack: I doubt that. We'll be far too happy to be thinking about you.

Daniel: If Jennifer goes with me, then I'll be wondering if she'll regret turning her back on you-- the man she loved half of her life.

Jack: And still loves. Don't forget about that part.

Daniel: And then now, she will have to spend some time with you and with me, separately, and see how she feels. Without all the pressure of having to make a decision right on the spot.

Jack: [Scoffs] Aren't you forgetting something? Jennifer, how do you feel about this?

Jennifer: I don't know. I don't know, this is so-- so out there.

Jack: Well, maybe that's where it should be left.

Daniel: I know it's extreme, but we'll be walking forward.

Jack: You said you were walking away--I say we stick with that part.

Daniel: Well, I'm betting that's not what Jennifer wants. Is it?

Jennifer: No.

Daniel: Okay. So we're gonna play this out naturally. See where it goes. Until you decide, and you know for sure, in your heart, who you wanna be with. But there is a clock. And I will not do this forever.

Hope: Maggie... are you all right?

Maggie: How is this possible?

Hope: You never checked with the doctor, or the clinic where you had the procedure done?

Maggie: No. Never. I didn't have any reason to. I haven't thought about it in years.

Victor: What can we do?

Maggie: Well, is there more? I mean, was there another letter?

Hope: That was the only page.

Maggie: Wow.

Hope: Gran passed away before she was able to finish the letter.

Maggie: Oh. Oh... then this is it.

Bo: Yeah, we don't know any more than what's right there.

Hope: I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry you had to find out this way.

Maggie: So what? I have a... another child out there somewhere. And it's... it's my child.

Hope: Yes.

Maggie: And I don't know if it's a boy or a girl. Or a man, woman, or-- I don't know anything. I just--how could it be? Where is my child? Where is...

On the next "Days of Our Lives" --

John: If I had to go by what's in this box, I'd send me to prison.

Carrie: We have to have more than John's word here, and we're running out of time.

Rafe: I may have found something that could be a big help in your case.
