Days of Our Lives Transcript Wednesday 9/14/11

Melanie: Brady, hi, it's Melanie. Listen, Dario told me about the promotion that you gave him, and I was just wondering if they had an opening in Siberia where he could work further away from me. Look, I asked you really nicely to stop messing with us, but I guess you can't do that, and the worst part is Dario actually thinks that he earned this promotion, but I know better. He doesn't think that you could be so mean and nasty that you would actually try and move him away to south America to get him away from me. Look, I just wanted to thank you for giving him this promotion and ruining two lives. Okay? Call me back. Hi.

Norman: My concern for you, Carly, remains that you're much better at the mea culpas and making reparations than you are at forgiving yourself.

Carly: It just feels like the forgiving part is code for me letting myself off the hook. And when I think about how I've lived and the problems I've created, the people I've hurt, and my patients, my children--

Norman: Well, your children seem ready to forgive you. You must have done something right.

Carly: Maybe. I know we're really excited about going on this trip.

Norman: Yeah, I've been thinking about that, Carly, and I'm wondering if it's really such a good idea.

Bo: Hey.

Hope: Hey. Oh! Did you hear from the lab?

Bo: Uh, there's a rush on it, but as you know--

Hope: I know, I know, I know. DNA testing takes time. Okay, so, in the meantime, to keep myself busy, I am going to put this sketch through the facial recognition program.

Bo: Okay.

Hope: We're getting closer to him. No doubt about it, Brady.

Vivian: Oh, there you are. You disappeared last night without a word, didn't answer my calls. I gave you up for dead.

Gus: I didn't know you cared.

Vivian: How could you say that? Of course I care. My dry-cleaning has to be picked up. I have to change the schedule on my mani-pedi. And then I need that itinerary on my trip to the Amalfi coast with Quinn.

Gus: And where is he, madam? How come you're breakfasting alone and not with your beloved son?

Quinn: Good morning.

Taylor: Oh, my god.

Quinn: What?

Taylor: I thought it was a dream, but... this...[Laughs] Really happened. I spent the night with you.

Quinn: That's right. Do you regret it?

Taylor: No, I-- I don't regret spending the night with you. You know, all this time, I've done anything I could to get you out of my head--new places, new men. None of it worked. I even tried to hate you, and I couldn't manage that. You happy?

Quinn: I never got over you either.

Taylor: Is that why you were so awful to me when we ran into each other?

Quinn: I really don't know. Probably.

Taylor: Because I have to tell you, you... you threatening to use my past against me and out me in front of everyone, you almost accomplished what I couldn't seem to manage on my own.

Quinn: We parted company on such bad terms, I-- I just didn't see any other way.

Taylor: You know, what you do, it's-- I have a real issue with it.

Quinn: I wish I could just wipe the slate clean. I really do. I wish I could just start over.

Taylor: I don't think we've met. I'm Taylor.

Quinn: Well, hello there, Taylor.

Gus: So your son's simply too busy to breakfast with you. Maybe there's nothing in it for him. Maybe he doesn't need anything from you this particular morning.

Vivian: Oh, I get it. You're upset because I had dinner with him and I didn't invite you.

Gus: I'm upset because you're blind to how he really is.

Vivian: Gus, we have had this discussion about the issues of jealousy.

Gus: I'm not jealous of your son.

Vivian: Ah, of course you are, and it makes perfect sense. I mean, he's incredibly handsome, he's charismatic, he's intensely masculine, while you're--

Gus: And I'm what?

Vivian: You're you. Well, I mean, you have to find some kind of acceptance. Now we're not all dealt the same hand. Quinn, like Achilles, has been blessed as a man among men. And you have been blessed with other valuable gifts.

Gus: Such as?

Vivian: Well, such as... you're very good at service. Although lately you have been slipping.

Gus: Really?

Vivian: Well, I can't count on you the way I did. And my analysis of the situation is that you--you have an obsession with Quinn, and it's affected your work, and now you need to find a hobby, something you can do in your spare time.

Gus: I have one.

Vivian: Really?

Gus: I'm a vigilante.

Vivian: [Laughs] Well, you still have that dry sense of humor. You a vigilante? I mean, can you imagine you intimidating anyone?

Gus: Yeah, just imagine.

Hope: Well, we both know the facial recognition program isn't 100% accurate.

Bo: Mandy only got a quick look at the guy.

Hope: Yeah, in the dark.

Bo: So we don't know how accurate that sketch is.

Hope: But it's worth a shot, isn't it?

Bo: Mm-hmm.

Hope: All right. Let's see what turns up. Ng.

Melanie: I didn't hear you come in.

Dario: That sounded like a pretty intense call.

Melanie: No. No. It's just about my mom.

Dario: Is everything okay?

Melanie: Yeah, it's fine. Just figuring out details for when she gets out, you know.

Dario: Right.

Melanie: We're gonna go on a road trip, me and her and Nicholas. I'm excited about it. So actually your promotion, I'm gonna miss you a lot, but it's kind of perfect, 'cause I'm gonna be gone too.

Dario: Really?

Melanie: Mm-hmm.

Dario: Listen, Melanie, I heard you. I heard you say that this promotion was gonna ruin your life.

Melanie: You weren't supposed to hear that.

Dario: Yeah, I know. I gathered that. That's why you lied about it, right?

Melanie: Can't get anything past you.

Dario: Look, if you think that this promotion--look, listen, if you think that this promotion is a mistake, why don't you talk to me about it instead of pretending like you're fine and gushing your guts out to--who was it that you were talking to?

Melanie: Just a friend. But you know me. I exaggerate and shoot off my big mouth. It's not like I think my life is over. I'm just gonna miss you.

Dario: Melanie, I'm gonna miss you too.

Melanie: Yeah, but Argentina's really far. It's not like we can go do weekends or something.

Dario: No.

Melanie: But this is a good opportunity for you. I don't want to get in the way of your dreams.

Dario: But don't you know that you are my dreams? I can't imagine them without you, huh? As a matter of fact, I was up all night thinking about it.

Melanie: And?

Dario: And, yeah, this promotion's a big deal for me, but... you know, I know that you weren't happy, even before I heard you talking on the phone, and that doesn't make me happy, so I've made a decision. I'm not taking the job.

Carly: You said that I'm the only one who can make that call.

Norman: Mm. That's right.

Carly: Well, so now you think this trip isn't a good idea?

Norman: No, I said I was wondering about it. Do you remember when the kids proposed the idea of the trip?

Carly: Uh-huh.

Norman: And you said you thought you could handle it. And then the kids went away and left us alone, and I asked you once again the $100,000 question, and you--

Carly: I didn't answer it.

Norman: You know, I think that, if you had yelled and screamed or told me to shut up, I wouldn't have been as worried as you just letting it pass by as if I hadn't asked you anything.

Carly: It's just that forgiveness--I mean, it's just-- it's vague.

Norman: No, I'd say it's pretty concrete. You forgive yourself and you stop hating yourself. Carly, if this cloud is hanging over you on that trip, spending all that time with your kids, it could end up being a step backwards.

Carly: Maybe I don't say anything because I don't have the words. You keep telling me to forgive myself. I don't know how.

Norman: Okay, let's talk about that. Maybe you could begin to forgive yourself if you apologize to the people you've wronged. Do you think you're ready to do that?

Carly: Maybe. I have to be.

Hope: I want to make sure there's corn salsa for the mini crab cakes.

Bo: Order corn salsa, schedule shooting lesson--you are kind of amazing.

Hope: I don't know about that, but I do know the 26th is a week and a half away. I still have a million things I have to do. Brady, I just--I'm excited. I want this party to knock people off their feet.

Bo: Well, considering what you got up your sleeve, I think that's exactly what's gonna happen.

Hope: Don't you just love surprises, huh?

Bo: Yeah, as long as I'm in on them. Hey, hey, you don't have any surprises for me, now do you?

Hope: Oh, I would never dream of trying to surprise you, Brady.

Bo: Why don't I trust you?

Hope: I don't know. It is gonna be a wonderful party, though, isn't it?

Bo: Yes, it is. It's gonna be one heck of a shindig, something that Salem hasn't seen in... almost never. So you want to tell me what's wrong?

Taylor: [Laughs] Mm. Strawberries and croissants on a fancy tray. Fresh-squeezed orange juice. [Laughter] Times have changed, huh?

Quinn: Mm-hmm.

Taylor: You know, breakfast with you used to mean takeout coffee and a Danish in a paper bag.

Quinn: Mm-hmm. The good old days. [Laughs] Well, my business, the one that you hate, was doing very well before this maniac turned up.

Taylor: Yeah, well, I guess it's always in demand, huh?

Quinn: You still don't believe that I've shut it down, do you?

Taylor: No, I do now. Turns out this guy, his latest victim, it wasn't a prostitute. She's actually my sister's best friend. Her name's Chloe.

Quinn: Um, Chloe?

Taylor: Yeah. And the police, they're downplaying it, because they don't know what to say. 'Cause either it is a mistake and the guy thought that Chloe was a prostitute, or it's a copycat thing, or it is the same guy and he's now going after women who are not prostitutes.

Quinn: Could it, um... can this Chloe--can she tell them anything?

Taylor: Not unless her condition changes. She's in a coma.

Quinn: Oh.

Taylor: Hey. This is hitting you hard, huh?

Quinn: God.

Taylor: Hey.

Quinn: If I ever get my hands on the bastard who's doing this to them... I swear to god, I'll kill him. I can do a little cash...

Taylor: Okay, it scares me to hear you say you want to kill someone. You were speaking metaphorically--hey. Weren't you?

Quinn: Maybe I seem like a bastard to most people, and maybe it's true. But the thought of this psycho lurking out there, attacking women who don't hurt anyone... it just drives me insane. And now he's branched out, Taylor. I mean, he's going after women that could be just standing on the wrong corner at the wrong time.

Taylor: I know.

Quinn: It could be someone I know. It could be someone I care about.

Taylor: Oh.

Quinn: Oh, I'm sorry. See, you're making me clumsy.

Taylor: It's all right. It's all right.

Quinn: Oh.

Both: Oh.

Taylor: I'm gonna just-- I'm gonna--let me wipe this shirt up and get it out and make sure it doesn't stain.

Quinn: Sorry, hon.

Taylor: You want me to?

Quinn: I got it. I got it. Chloe, it's--it's Quinn. I really hope you're okay.

Melanie: You would give up a promotion for me?

Dario: Well, you're right. Argentina's just too far away.

Melanie: Look, I was being kind of a drama queen. I could come visit you when I had a few days off.

Dario: Look, you have a job that you love, a mom that you're super worried about. Really how often would I see you? If I would have know that moving was a part of the job, I never would have taken it.

Melanie: Are you sure?

Dario: I have never been more sure about anything in my entire life.

[Cell phone rings]

Melanie: Your job?

Dario: Yeah, yeah. I better get back.

Melanie: Okay.

Dario: Meet me for lunch later?

Melanie: Yeah, Brady pub.

Dario: Okay.

Melanie: Um, hey, Hernandez. Don't talk to Brady yet. You know, don't tell him your decision until we can talk a little bit more, yeah?

Dario: Okay. But I've already made up my mind.

Norman: How long has it been since you've spent any length of time with Nicholas?

Carly: Um, I don't know.

Norman: Well, you're getting to know each other all over again. It's a wonderful opportunity, but it's also a stressful one. You need to make sure they're getting to know the real you.

Carly: I'm not sure I know who the real me is anymore.

Norman: Well, you need to be sure of that, Carly. You need to believe in yourself.

Carly: I understand.

Norman: Do you think you're ready for that?

Bo: Hey, hey, hey. You gonna tell me what's going on?

Hope: Okay. This morning I was trying to decide what desserts to serve at the party. So I started going through my recipe box--

Bo: You have a recipe box?

Hope: Very funny.

Bo: I'll remind you of that next time we're having cold pizza for dinner. Go on.

Hope: They were all of the recipes that I had asked Gran to write down for me over the years. Do you know how disappointed she must be? I never made--not one single recipe.

Bo: Come on. She was always very proud of you. And you do have a couple of years to work on that beef stroganoff. What is it?

Hope: Just seeing her handwriting-- [Laughs] You know what she did? At the top of each card, she wrote, "good luck, hope, dear."

Bo: [Laughs]

Hope: "Love, Gran." And the date and... and I was thinking about all of the time that she put into writing all of those wonderful, amazing recipes for me that I never even attempted to make, 'cause I was so scared. I wish she was here. She should be here helping me plan the party.

Bo: Yeah.

Hope: It kills me that she's not gonna be there with us.

Bo: Yeah, I know.

Hope: I miss my Gran, Bo.

Quinn: I'm not family, so you can't tell me anything? Anything at all? No. No, I understand. Thank you.

Taylor: Well, your shirt, I think it's going to survive. You were on the phone?

Quinn: Yeah. Nothing important. Certainly nothing as important as you.

Taylor: Mm. [Giggles]

Quinn: I missed you, girl.

Taylor: I can tell.

[Knock at door]

Quinn: It's probably room service wanting the tray.

Vivian: Surprise.

Quinn: [Sighs]

[Knock at door]

Carly: Hi! I wasn't expecting to see you today.

Melanie: Well, you know, big day. Pumpkin muffins are back at java.

Carly: Oh, yay, I love muffins. So these muffins, they propelled you to come see me?

Melanie: Well, I know how much you love them.

Carly: And?

Melanie: Um, can I be honest? Can I--can I get some advice from you? I know you're kind of in a fragile place--

Carly: No, no. Do you know how nice it would be to think about somebody else other than myself right now?

Melanie: Oh, okay. Well, it starts off good. Um, Dario got a promotion, which is great, 'cause he wants it and he deserves it.

Carly: But?

Melanie: Um, it's in Argentina.

Carly: Oh, that sucks.

Melanie: Yeah. I want to be happy for him. I am happy for him. I'm trying to be happy for him. Um, but he overheard me chewing Brady out on the phone, and it turns out he realized I'm not happy, and he's disappointed and having to go, and now he's not gonna go. He's gonna turn it down. But I told him to think it over, and then he went to work, and I bought muffins, and then I came here.

Carly: Why were you chewing out Brady?

Melanie: Oh, that's right. Well, Brady set up the whole thing. You know, he doesn't want Dario and I to be together.

Carly: Okay, so I'm assuming Dario has no idea?

Melanie: Yeah, I can't tell him. I mean, you understand why.

Carly: Well, I'm here, and I'm supposed to be advocating total openness and honesty, so, yeah, I understand.

Melanie: Well, now I'm worried I'm in pretty deep, because, if Dario finds out why he did get the promotion, it'll kill him.

Carly: Okay. Well, then we're just gonna have to look at your other options.

Hope: Restoring the town square was always Gran and grandpa's big dream.

Bo: Yeah, I know.

Hope: The only reason the city was able to finish it was because Gran left that money in her will. Of course, along with a very special fund for flowers to be planted every spring. Do you remember?

Both: Pansies and impatiens.

Bo: Her favorites.

Hope: Yeah.

Bo: I saw them putting those in.

Hope: She's never gonna see them. And she won't hear them talk about her at the dedication. I wish Gran could have seen her big dream come true.

Bo: Yeah, well, I think she will. So will doc H.

Hope: It's not the same.

Bo: Yeah, you're right. When the baseball season started, I... thought about the games I won't be watching with pop. The only reason I come back with fish when I go out fishing is 'cause I hear him. I hear him say, "hey, Bo, sweet spot's over there."

Hope: You know, the other day I was--I was talking to Ciara and telling her about a music box I had when I was her age. And she wanted to know what the song was. And I, honest to god, I couldn't remember. But I almost said, "let's call Gran. She'll know." I... I can't believe that it's been almost a year, Bo. We just never get used to losing the people we love, do we?

Bo: No. In this case, we don't have to. 'Cause they will always be with us. They'll be a part of our hearts. Always.

Hope: Always.

Quinn: If you'll excuse us for a few moments, we'll go and get dressed.

Vivian: Hmm. Rumpled sheets, unfinished romantic breakfast in bed. My, my, my. Mm-mm.

Gus: I should take you home, madam. This must be upsetting for you.

Vivian: What? Because my adult son is entertaining a woman? I'm not a prude. I mean, I'm not surprised. If he had no women in his life, I'd be quite surprised. He's so handsome and charming.

Gus: What I mean, madam, is she's not just some woman. If he wants her to meet you, she must be important to him, so he's not gonna have time for you anymore. I, on the other hand, have plenty of time for you. You don't have to worry about me abandoning you.

Vivian: Well, Quinn is not going to do that to me either. Once I make friends with miss walker, we'll be closer than ever.

Gus: In all the time I've worked for you, I've never known you become friends with the woman who's been involved with a man in your family. You've despised them all, just as you will despise her.

Vivian: That is absolutely not true.

Gus: Two words: Carly manning, last woman you found in his bed.

Vivian: Don't remind me.

Gus: Lawrence was your nephew. Quinn's your son. You do the math.

Carly: Okay. I have a question. You not wanting Dario to take this job, is it about missing him or because it's Brady's idea?

Melanie: Both, I guess. I'm mad at Brady. You know, but I'm really gonna miss Dario.

Carly: Even though he's really excited about taking this job?

Melanie: Uhh... I don't know if he's being realistic, because he says we'll visit each other all the time, but it's not like we're going to Chicago.

Carly: But he's being more realistic now and is telling you he's gonna turn down the job?

Melanie: Yeah. So please tell me what to do.

Carly: Okay. It's been my experience that it's a mistake, to keep someone from doing something they really want to do.

Melanie: Sure.

Carly: Mm-hmm.

Melanie: Like when you told Bo to go back to hope without feeling guilty about you?

Carly: Yes. Just like that. If I had tried to hang onto him, he would have resented me for it, and that would be not good.

Melanie: But it was Dario's idea not to go.

Carly: Something tells me you're not cheering him on.

Melanie: Well, I mean, I didn't want him to think that I didn't care.

Carly: Okay, look. My theory on being with someone is that you have to wish them well. And if they want something, you have to hope they get it. Does Dario really want this job?

Melanie: Probably. It makes him feel really good about himself.

Carly: Honey, if you and Dario were meant to be together, it doesn't matter how many miles are between you. You won't be able to be kept apart.

Melanie: I know. This is just really hard.

Carly: I know it is. I know it is. But you're gonna make the right choice. You will.

Bo: You okay?

Hope: Yeah. It's just that Gran was so many things to me... mom, friend, grandmother. Just so many things, you know?

Bo: Yeah, I do. This town square restoration thing was her baby.

Hope: So I'm gonna make sure this party is the best damn party anyone's ever seen and make her proud.

Bo: She will be.

Hope: It just suddenly hit me the other day when I was talking to Ciara about the music box.

Bo: Mm-hmm.

Hope: She's gonna grow up without really knowing Gran.

Bo: She'll have us and our memories. [Grumbles] You okay now?

Hope: Yeah. Yeah, I am--we need to go. Okay? And thank you. It always helps me when we talk things out.

Bo: Yes, it does. And you're right. We better get back to work. Hopefully that program has ID'd our guy.

Hope: Yeah.

Vivian: We don't know if this Taylor woman is bad for Quinn.

Gus: Don't you owe it to Quinn to find out about her? Don't you want to do for Quinn what you weren't able to do for Lawrence?

Vivian: Uh... ooh, you're back.

Taylor: Good morning.

[Nervous laughter]

Quinn: Yes, we're back.

Vivian: Taylor?

Taylor: Yes.

Vivian: I have to say something. I am so pleased to meet someone who makes my son so happy.

Melanie: Hey, sorry I'm late.

Dario: Oh, hey. I actually just ordered in case I got called back to the office.

Melanie: Oh, good call. Turkey? On rye?

Dario: Mm-hmm.

Melanie: With jalapenos? A little spicy, just the way I like it.

Dario: Umm...

Melanie: You know exactly what I like.

Dario: Yeah. And what you don't. Like Argentina.

Melanie: It's not like I really have anything against Argentina. It's just the location that kind of causes a bit of a problem. I mean, if it were next to Salem, I'd be out buying gaucho pants right now.

Dario: [Laughs] Listen, I already called about the job.

Melanie: You already turned it down?

Dario: Yeah, yeah. I called Mr. Ming, but the thing is that he wants me to take some more time to think about it.

Melanie: Wait a minute.

Dario: What?

Melanie: You talked to Mr. Ming about it?

Dario: Well, yeah, he's the one that offered me the job.

Melanie: Oh.

Dario: What? You look surprised.

Melanie: No. [Laughs] I just thought Brady was the one that--

Dario: Well, the thing is that I don't think Brady even knows about it. I mean, him being so concerned with Chloe in the hospital and all. Oh, oh, wait. You thought that he offered me the job to get me out of the picture.

Melanie: No. Well, it's not that you don't deserve it. I just know how Brady feels about us being together.

Dario: No, yeah, don't beat yourself up about it. I actually thought the same thing, but it turns out that I just got it because I'm amazing.

Melanie: Oh. Well, you are. And there's another thing.

Dario: That you're amazing too? Yeah. I already know.

Melanie: You should take the job.

Bo: Do you have a time when you expect the DNA results from the hair sample on the pier? Okay, thanks. I appreciate it.

Hope: Yeah. Okay, great. Just send over all the data you have on that damaged crate we found. Right. We're trying to zero in on that weapon he used.

Bo: Sample's done. Let's see what you got. What?

Hope: I love this. I love you.

Bo: Love you too.

Vivian: You know, sometimes Quinn's manners can be atrocious, so you must be very important for him to be such a gentleman.

Quinn: My mother's manners are always impeccable. Her mind's another story.

Vivian: [Laughs] He loves teasing me. But I think we're going to be very good friends.

Taylor: Oh, well, it is a pleasure to meet you too, Mrs. Alamain.

Vivian: Oh, darling, call me Vivian.

Taylor: Oh, okay.

Vivian: Don't you think this calls for some champagne?

Taylor: Oh, champagne. It's a little early, don't you think?

Vivian: Oh, no, when it comes to champagne, we just pretend we're in Australia or wherever it's 5:00.

Quinn: It sounds like a grand idea. Russ, why don't you call room service, mate?

Gus: Are you a comedian? It's Gus.

Quinn: Oh, right. It's too bad.

Vivian: S-so tell me, where did you two meet? When? How? When's the wedding?

Quinn: We--

Taylor: Okay, wait.

Quinn: Ma. I can do a little cash...

Carly: You know, when I was making that list, I was afraid I was gonna run out of paper.

Norman: All right, now I'm gonna ask you to prioritize. Who do you think you should start with?

Carly: Jennifer and Daniel. I mean, they--a big part of why I'm here, getting me here, and there's such great friends.

Norman: Right.

Carly: You know what, I can kill two birds with one stone because they're a couple now.

Norman: Really?

Carly: Yeah, I had a hard time accepting that. That's part of the reason I'm here.

Norman: And now you feel you've accepted that?

Carly: I'm trying to.

Dario: Wait--wait a second. Wait a second. Are you trying to get rid of me or what?

Melanie: Well, yeah. No. No. Look, you deserve this. This is a great opportunity and, you know, there's another thing.

Dario: What's that?

Melanie: You want it. You owe it to yourself... and to Mr. Ming to prove that you can do this. And I wouldn't be able to live with myself if... you didn't go because of me.

Dario: So what does this mean? That we're gonna do, like, the long-distance relationship thing or what?

Melanie: I don't know. I mean, it sucks, but a wise woman told me--my mom--that... if it's meant to be, it'll just work out.

Dario: And what if it's not?

Melanie: Then at least I'll know you didn't stay because of me. And we'll still be friends.

Dario: Melanie... always.

Melanie: I mean, think of it this way. At least we had a good time for the amount of time we had to spend together.

Bo: Well, that was a huge waste of time.

Hope: Yeah, well, we knew it was a long shot. If only Mandy had gotten a better look at her attacker.

Bo: Yeah. Well, we still have the hair. Maybe we'll get a DNA match from that.

Hope: Yeah, even if we get a match, a good defense attorney could have it thrown out. I don't know. We need something stronger than that. Concrete.

Vivian: Gus, put the phone down. I have a better idea than just champagne. Champagne and lunch. We'll have a long lunch and get to know each other.

Quinn: Just the three of us, right, mom?

Vivian: Well, of course. Gus has errands to run.

Allo? We have things to do. Let's go.

Gus: Coming, madam.

Vivian: See you later, darlings.

Quinn: [Laughs]

Taylor: Oh, wow. Okay, first of all, I didn't know you had a mother.

Quinn: Oh, really? Did you think that I was hatched from somewhere?

Taylor: Okay, I didn't know that you were in contact and secondly, wow, again, she sure is something.

Quinn: Well, she seems to think the same of you. And, of course, so do I.

Taylor: [Exclaims]

Sami: It says there's opportunity for rapid advancement for the right candidate. I am the right candidate.

Rafe: Just send us $2,000 upfront for supplies.

Sami: This is not a scam. I want this job.
