Norman: So how'd you feel about our session today?

Carly: Oh, it was okay, I guess.

Norman: All right, that sounds a little evasive.

Carly: Well, 'cause maybe it is, because I'm so sick of talking about my feelings.

Norman: That's because you don't like doing anything that you're not good at.

Carly: I'm not a--I'm not a feeling kind of girl. I'm a science geek. Just the facts, ma'am.

Norman: Mm-hmm. Liar.

Carly: Oh, no, I was the queen of the science fairs. I was like the Venus Williams of the science fairs.

Norman: No, I mean you're lying about not being fond of feelings.

Carly: Mm.

Norman: You're a very compassionate, deep-feeling woman. Carly--

Carly: I think you can ask the staff at university hospital and they'd tell you something different.

Norman: Yeah, I think I could ask your children, and they'd say I'm right on the money.

Carly: And look what I put them through. Real life is too complicated, okay? I like the O.R. No feelings in there.

Norman: Carly, I want you to think about something. I-I get what you're saying about having to compartmentalize to be able to go into the O.R. And get the job done. But that doesn't mean that you don't feel for your patients. Being married to Lawrence, you had to compartmentalize just to get through the day. I think maybe you got too good at it.

Carly: So when I lost Bo and I was attracted to Daniel, those little pills were just helping me not to feel.

Norman: By George, I think you've got it.

Carly: She can be taught.

Norman: [Laughs] So the next step in this process is to wade back into the world of feeling a little bit. But we're gonna start with some pretty positive, straightforward emotions.

Carly: How do we do that?

Norman: Well, I'm giving you a hall pass. You get to go out for lunch.

Carly: You want me to explore my feelings about tuna salad?

Melanie: I like tuna salad.

Nicholas: Tuna salad? You like tuna salad? And here I have turkey on rye.

Norman: Meet your lunch companions.

Carly: Thank you.

Norman: Hey. Enjoy.

Lexie: Who did this to you, Chloe? [Sighs] What kind of person could do this to anyone, let alone a defenseless woman? Sweet, beautiful woman. [Sighs] We are going to find the person who did this. And we are going to make sure that he never hurts anyone ever again. I promise you that.

Chloe: Hi, Kinsey. Yeah, I'm sorry too. Sure. You want to meet for coffee? Uh, okay. The Brady pub in ten minutes is fine. Great. Okay, I'll see you soon. Bye. [Gasps and screams] [Hyperventilating]

Brady: [Stammers] Oh, my god. Chloe? Chloe, honey? Oh, my god. Oh, no.

Hope: Brady. You okay?

Brady: Yeah, I'm better than Chloe is.

Bo: We'll find the monster who did this.

Brady: When you find him, do you mind giving me five minutes alone with a baseball bat with him?

Hope: You'd have to stand in line.

Bo: The first thing we have to do is find out exactly where she was attacked.

Hope: Poor Chloe. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Bo: I'd like to know why she was in this neighborhood in the first place.

Brady: You're not making any sense.

Kinsey: Chloe, she was...

Brady: She was what?

Kinsey: She was--she was doing it.

Nicole: What do you mean, doing it?

Kinsey: She was hooking. She was hooking, okay, for a couple months now.

Hope: You know something. Don't you?

Lexie: [Sighs] [Sighs]

[Telephone ringing]

Sami: Hey, you've reached the Hernandez family. There are six of us, and yet no one can make it to the phone, so leave a message and we'll call you back.

Lexie: Sami, it's Lexie. I'm calling to let you know your test results are in. Your ultrasound showed several cysts.

Rafe: What do you do about them?

Lexie: We remove the cysts.

Sami: Surgery.

Lexie: Yeah, but minimally invasive.

Sami: Okay. Then what?

Lexie: Hopefully, that'll be the end of it.

Sami: Why do you say it like it might not be?

Lexie: We'll have to analyze the tissue to determine whether the cysts were benign.

Sami: They might not be? I might have cancer. That was totally awesome. We should do that more often.

Rafe: Oh, really? 'Cause, as I recall, we have lunch every day.

Sami: I was talking about driving to the country for lunch. I enjoyed the drive just as much as I did the food.

Rafe: Oh, great, so as soon as we win the lottery, I'll quit my job, and then we'll go to the country, we'll have lunch every day.

Sami: If we have good luck, we should not waste it on lottery tickets.

Rafe: I really do not want to go to work this afternoon.

Sami: Well, I don't blame you, but you definitely have to go to work. Look, we're gonna act like nothing's wrong. Until somebody tells me I have cancer, I don't have cancer.

Rafe: Okay. That's it. I'm calling in.

Sami: What?

Rafe: I'm gonna let 'em know I'm not coming.

Sami: No, I just said I'm fine.

Rafe: What's the point of marrying the boss' daughter if you don't get perks? Am I wrong or am I right? Listen, I'll draw you a bath, I'll give you a massage...

Sami: That is very tempting, but no. You're going to work. I'm fine. It's fine, okay? We have to act normal, okay? You have bills to pay, and we're an ordinary family. This is an ordinary day.

Rafe: You're like a slave driver over here.

Sami: Well, I'm serious.

Rafe: Really?

Sami: Yes, please. Please.

Rafe: All right. Call me if Lexie calls you, then.

Sami: Of course. Now get to work, slacker!

Rafe: I love you. You're the best.

Sami: Right back at you.

Rafe: Except for the going to work.

Sami: Go. Go!

Rafe: All right, I'll go.

Sami: Before I change my mind.

Rafe: Hey.

Lexie: Sami, it's Lexie. I'm calling to let you know your test results are in.

Lexie: I'll be available after rounds to meet with you and Rafe in my office, say in an hour. Let me know if that works for you.

Sami: Are you serious, Lexie? Come on. I'm not gonna wait around for you to finish rounds! Have you forgotten who you are dealing with?

Hope: Brady... if there's something you're not telling me...

Brady: There isn't.

Hope: You know you can trust me. Bo and I need to know everything, every little detail.

Brady: Hope, I've told you everything, I swear.

Hope: Really? You haven't really told us why you were down here yourself.

Brady: I told roman. Kinsey was worried because she was supposed to meet Chloe at the pub last night.

Hope: So you looked here? Why here, of all places?

Brady: I checked everywhere. I checked obvious places, but I also wanted to check the places where the attacker had struck.

Hope: You thought possibly Chloe was in danger maybe?

Brady: Yeah, and I had good reason to believe that. Why are you hassling me about this?

Hope: I'm not hassling you. But you're pretty upset about something.

Brady: I sure am, hope. My ex-wife, who I loved, has been beaten up and left as garbage, okay? I'm a little upset. She didn't deserve this.

Hope: No, of course not. No, she did not. Brady, I'm sorry. Could you please show me exactly where you found her?

Brady: Oh, my god. Chloe? Chloe, honey? Oh, my god! Oh, no. It was right there. It was right there.

Bo: [Sighs] Hey.

Hope: Be careful, she was found over there.

Bo: Oh, yeah? Thanks. This was not a random mugging. It was brutal, like the other attacks. The attacker must have mistaken her for a hooker.

Brady: Look, if there's no other questions you have for me, I'd really like to get back to the hospital.

Bo: Yeah, fine. Go. Thanks for the help.

Brady: Thanks.

Hope: Uh, Brady... if you think of anything else, you'll call?

Brady: Of course. Sure.

Hope: We both want the same thing-- to catch this guy.

Brady: I know. I hope you do.

Bo: What was that about?

Hope: I'm not sure. I'm thinking...

Bo: What?

Hope: I don't know. I don't know. Just a feeling that he's holding something back.

Bo: What do you think he knows?

Hope: I'm not sure. And I sure as heck don't know why he wouldn't want to tell us. So you don't think this is where the attack took place, huh?

Bo: No. There's no sign of a struggle.

Hope: I don't think so either. The scene's too clean. She wasn't attacked he-- and I can prove it.

Bo: What do you have?

Hope: Look at this. A blood trail.

Bo: Oh, yeah. I want healthy skin for life.

Maxine: Anything I can do to help?

Lexie: Nope. Almost done. How late am I?

Maxine: Not bad. 10, 15 minutes.

Lexie: Oh, boy. Okay, um, actually, there is something you can do for me. I left a message for Sami Hernandez. I'm not sure she got it. Would you track her down for me? And her husband. I have to give them her test results.

Maxine: I'll do the best I can do.

Lexie: Thanks, Maxine. That's all I can ask, huh? Thank you, Maxine.

Carly: Do you know what it does to me to see the two of you together? I mean, I've thought about it and I've dreamed about it, but--

Melanie: Mom, we've only got, like, 45 minutes for lunch. You don't want to spend it crying.

Carly: [Chuckles]

Melanie: You look good.

Carly: Thank you.

Nicholas: You don't have to thank me. I like eating.

Carly: Oh, I know.

Nicholas: [Chuckles]

Melanie: Well, we wanted to take you outside for a picnic, but we'll have to settle for the next best thing.

Carly: Gladly. Great. So turkey and rye? On rye? Okay. I can't believe you remembered that's my favorite.

Melanie: I didn't know.

Carly: It's my favorite.

Melanie: Oh, it is? [Laughs] Good call.

Hope: She had to have been coming from that direction.

Bo: Yeah. All right, she's severely beaten, scared, vulnerable, and she comes into an alley?

Hope: Yeah, well, she was looking for help.

Bo: She'd be running toward people, the safety of the lights. Unless she was running from her attacker.

Hope: Let's see where this leads. Maybe we'll be able to figure out what the heck she was doing down here. Let's go. Look at the blood.

Bo: Yeah.

[Monitor beeping]

Brady: I'm counting on you hearing me right now. Because it's important. I want you to hear me. I'm gonna be here as long as I have to be. I'm not leaving. I'm not going anywhere. 'Cause I gotta tell you, Chloe, I have a little bit of experience going over the edge myself. It's kind of been my area of expertise lately. And I know that you've had it really rough lately... with Daniel, with Philip, with losing parker. But see, the thing is... you beat cancer. You remember that? You beat cancer. That's pretty tough to do. You were so strong, you were so special, and you were so beautiful. And I don't know what the hell you were doing out there on the street selling yourself, honey. I don't know why you were doing that.

Sami: Lexie? How long do rounds take anyway? 3q there she is !

Melanie: Okay, this one is my favorite.

Nicholas: I love it.

Melanie: Right?

Nicholas: [Chuckles]

Carly: What are you two talking about?

Nicholas: Oh, the Eurovision song contest. It's fabulous.

Melanie: Yeah, he's, like, the only person in America that has any idea what that is. She's crying again.

Carly: Hey, dr. Norman said I was supposed to have feelings. Listen, I just-- I was, like, so afraid that you were gonna hate each other. I would have settled for that, but then-- look at the two of you.

Nicholas: We actually can't stand each other.

Melanie: Yeah, no, this is-- this is for show.

Carly: I really wish you hadn't missed all that time together.

Melanie: What I learned from finding you and dad is that it's better late than never. I mean, I missed out on growing up with him, but I have a real brother now... and a family.

Hope: This looks like the end of the trail.

Bo: Actually, it's the beginning.

Hope: Right.

Bo: This is where the attack happened.

Hope: [Sighs] Oh, my god. It's a picture of Chloe's son.

Bo: It's her purse. The contents are scattered. She could have used it defensively.

Hope: Look at this. It's from the dress Chloe was wearing when she was brought in.

Bo: We're finally getting somewhere.

Brady: [Clears throat] You could have knocked.

Rafe: Yeah, I did. You didn't hear me. How's she doing?

Brady: She's still in a coma.

Rafe: I guess we know why she was attacked.

Brady: Why?

Rafe: Well, she's young, she's pretty. She fits the profile of the other women that were attacked. Except, uh... god only knows what she was doing in that part of town. I thought the press releases made it clear that it was dangerous.

Brady: I don't know. Maybe she got lost or something.

Rafe: Maybe. Well, we haven't caught a break yet, but hopefully when she wakes up she'll be able to tell us something about the dirtbag that did this to her.

Brady: She didn't deserve this, Rafe. None of those women deserved this.

Rafe: No. No, she didn't.

Brady: Do me a favor, man. Find him. Find him and stop him, all right?

Sami: Damn it! Maybe she hasn't printed it out yet. Everything's digital now anyway, right? Okay, so, um... password protected. What is Theo's birthday? Oh. Yes! Okay, where am I? Sami...Hernandez. Oh, my god. Oh, my gosh, you've gotta be kidding me.

Rafe: Listen to me. I assure you we are doing everything that we possibly can to find the creep that did this to her. Not to mention we have the mayor's support.

Lexie: Oh, good, you're here.

Rafe: Oh, yeah. I was hoping that she might be awake so I could get a statement from her.

Lexie: I'll let you know when she is. Maxine, would you take Chloe's vitals for me, please?

Maxine: Sure.

Lexie: I just asked Maxine to track you down. I left a message for Sami. I'm not sure if she got it.

Rafe: No, she texted me about the appointment, said to meet her.

Lexie: Oh, good. Then she must be here. Yeah, um, listen, I'm running a little behind, so let me examine Chloe, and I'll have Maxine walk you to my office, okay?

Rafe: Wow. I'm usually good at reading people but you're... giving me nothing. [Chuckles] Is this your game face?

Lexie: No games, Rafe. Listen, I'll be there shortly and we can all discuss Sami's test results together. Maxine, would you mind walking him to my office, please?

Maxine: Sure.

Lexie: Thanks.

Brady: Lexie, do you have any idea as to whether she'll wake up or not?

Lexie: I'd only be guessing, Brady.

Brady: I--I feel helpless, you know?

Lexie: I know. I believe she knows you're here.

Brady: I hope she does.

Lexie: Yeah. Just keep talking to her. Okay? It wouldn't hurt to say a prayer.

Hope: Hey, Larry, I need you to call forensics again. They need to get down here ASAP, go over this whole area, okay?

Larry: You got it.

Hope: Thanks. How's it going, Brady?

Bo: Well, we've got this fabric on the crate. The way it's snagged on there, Chloe was moving in this direction.

Hope: Right.

Bo: Now, if her attacker was behind her over here, and he took a swing and missed... take a look at this.

Hope: Wow. Look at the damage, look at the force he must have used.

Bo: But this indentation could give us an idea of the weapon he was using.

Hope: Mm-hmm. I think our perp's finally made a mistake.

Bo: [Chuckles] If we're lucky.

Sami: It doesn't make any sense. That's my file, but it's empty. I must be in the wrong place.

Maxine: Would you like some coffee or water while you wait?

Rafe: No, I'm good, thanks. Maybe Sami will want some. I thought she was gonna be here.

Maxine: Well, I'm sure she'll be here soon, and dr. Carver will be right with you.

Rafe: Okay. That's weird. Where the hell is she? My doctor told me calcium

Melanie: Oh, my gosh, that's so weir--august, 2006?

Nicholas: Yeah. I was at this hostel right off placa Cataluņa.

Melanie: Shut up. We could have been at the same place at the same time. I mean, I love Barcelona.

Nicholas: Oh, it's my favorite city.

Melanie: Really?

Nicholas: Yeah.

Melanie: Oh, my god, me too.

Nicholas: I'm sorry, mom. We came here to see you, and all we're doing is talking about ourselves.

Carly: What? Are you kidding me? Did I mention how happy I am that the two of you get along?

Melanie: Now, let's not get ahead of ourselves. I mean, so far we've only established we have the same taste in food and music... cities...moms!

Nicholas: We only have one.

Melanie: Oh, wow, yeah.

Carly: I can't believe it. It's perfect. I think I finally have what I've always been dreaming of... a family. I get to have a family.

Bo: I'm gonna send these pictures in. Hope I'm not making too much of this.

Hope: I don't think you are.

Bo: Well, that mark could have been made by anything.

Hope: Or, glass half full, it could be our first really tangible evidence about the weapon he uses.

Bo: Yeah. All right. Here's my theory.

Hope: All right.

Bo: So Chloe's standing right in here, distracted by her phone or something. The attacker comes out of his hiding place, wherever, over there, and hits her. But she doesn't go down. She uses her purse to defend herself, and the purse gets knocked out of her hands. She tries to get away from him. She goes over here. Her dress gets caught on the crate. Swinging at her again, she ducks out of the way, and he hits that crate. And that mark was made by the attacker's weapon.

Hope: Then he hit her

Bo: And that blow had enough force to draw blood.

Chloe: [Breathing heavily] Aah!

Hope: Then he hit her again. And again and again. She tried getting away, and she must have landed there. That's when she must have collapsed.

Bo: Right. Judging from the amount of blood and from the doctor's report, he hit her many times, but he didn't finish her off.

Hope: Yeah, thank god.

Bo: She makes her way to the alley for help or safety. Or maybe because she's disoriented.

Hope: It works. It covers all the evidence.

Bo: That doesn't mean it makes sense.

Hope: What are you talking about?

Bo: Well, roman says this guy's widening his net, but this attack on Chloe is a sea change from what we know about him. He goes after prostitutes. Chloe's not a hooker.

[Monitor beeping]

Brady: You know, Chloe, it really, really bothers me that...I didn't know anything about what was going on with you. It bothers me that you wouldn't think there was anything in the world I wouldn't do for you. Honey, I offered you money. You turned me down. And then you turn tricks? I don't understand why you, Chloe, would do that. Oh, hell, maybe I do. The world beat you up, didn't it? You got to a point where you just said, "what the hell, I don't care anymore. What's the difference? No one cares." I know. I've been there and back. Here's the thing, honey. You didn't give up on me, and I will not give up on you. And the police will never find out what you were doing because I won't let them. And you will not lose parker ever. I promise you that.

Rafe: This is weird. Sami should have been here by now. [Sighs]

[Cell phone ringing]

Sami: Hi.

Rafe: Hi. What are you doing under the desk? You were looking for your files, weren't you?

Carly: Oh, my gosh, you both have almost the same picture.

Melanie: Right. No, this is the placa right down at the end of the street where my hostel was.

Nicholas: And look, this is the placa where my hostel was.

Melanie: Shut up. We could have walked past each other and not even known it. That's so crazy. We were there-- no, no, no, no. Our time's up?

Norman: Just about.

Melanie: Um, what if we bribe you with a chocolate brownie?

Norman: Ooh, you found my Achilles' heel. No. I heard you all laughing. It sounded wonderful.

Carly: It was the best picnic ever.

Nicholas: Now?

Carly: Um, what? What? What's going on?

Nicholas: Okay, Melanie and I have been talking, and we have a proposal that we'd like to float by both of you.

Carly: Really?

Melanie: Well, um, we were thinking that if it's okay with dr. Norman, when you're done with treatment we could go on a road trip, the three of us.

Nicholas: You know, to make up for lost time.

Melanie: Yeah, how does that sound?

Carly: I love a good road trip.

Melanie: So do we.

Carly: I can't believe this. Just a couple weeks ago I didn't think I had a reason to go on, and...

Nicholas: Everybody loves a road trip.

Melanie: Yeah.

Carly: I love you.

Nicholas: Shotgun.

Melanie: I call--

Carly: Wait a minute. Excuse me. Okay, let's just slow down. Let's talk to dr. Norman. Do you think this is something that I'm ready for?

Norman: Well, the truth is, the only person who can answer that question is you.

Hope: That was great work.

Bo: Yeah, if I got it right.

Hope: It's really getting to you, isn't it?

Bo: Yeah. Something's wrong here.

Hope: Brady, uh, you know sometimes I get a little carried away, maybe make a little too much out of something.

Bo: You? That never happens.

Hope: I didn't say anything because maybe it doesn't mean anything. But remember when the department said there wasn't enough in the budget to go after this guy early on?

Bo: Yeah. If we had gone after him, Chloe wouldn't be in the hospital right now.

Hope: Anyway, I kind of did a little poking around myself.

Bo: All by yourself?

Hope: Mm-hmm.

Bo: You not following department policy?

Hope: Stop. I checked out the alley, and guess who I bumped into. Chloe.

Bo: When was this?

Hope: About a week ago. She said she was on her way to a music class, had gotten lost.

Bo: Yeah, right. And?

Hope: Well, I just-- something felt a little off, just didn't seem right. But then again, maybe it's just me making something out of nothing. Maybe the perp wasn't targeting Chloe. Maybe she just wandered into his territory for whatever reason, and she surprised him.

Bo: Yeah. And he got sloppy and made a mistake.

Hope: Mm-hmm. Exactly.

Larry: Forensics is on the way.

Bo: Okay, thanks, man. Have them check out this indentation in the wood here. Check it for foreign materials that might be embedded in it.

Larry: Sure thing.

Hope: It might help us I.D. The weapon.

Bo: What would really help is if Chloe woke up, told us what the hell happened here.

Brady: Yeah, Attagirl. Squeeze my hand, come on, Chloe. Come on, squeeze my hand. Come back to us. Atta-- come on. You're doing great. Honey, squeeze my hand again. Do it.

Maxine: What happened?

Brady: I was talking to her about parker, and she squeezed my hand. She squeezed it really, really hard. Well? What do you think?

Maxine: Well, there's no real change, except an elevated heart rate. You know, it might have just been a reflex.

Brady: No. Hey, no. I was talking to her about her baby, and she squeezed my hand. She was responding to what I was saying.

Maxine: I believe you. I believe that she can hear you. Because she did squeeze your hand when you talked about her son, but... it's a good sign. It's a beginning.

Brady: Then she could recover, and she could wake up.

Maxine: I can't say that, but I-- I think it's a very good thing that you're here.

Sami: I just couldn't stand it, you know? I got the message from Lexie, and I just couldn't stand the fact that some lab tech knew and I didn't. I couldn't wait for Lexie to finish her rounds.

Rafe: Right.

Sami: I mean, I know you don't understand, I know you think I'm crazy, but I just had to know. I had to know if I have cancer or not.

Rafe: I get it.

Sami: You do? You're not mad?

Rafe: No. Actually, I'm kind of relieved.

Sami: Relieved?

Rafe: Yeah. You breaking into someone's office and hacking into their computer-- how did you do that, by the way? The com--

Sami: Oh, everybody uses their kids' birthday as a password, right?

Rafe: Yeah. Yeah. That's smooth. Anyway, you breaking into someone's office and hiding under the desk, it tells me that even with all this stuff going on hasn't changed you. And it also tells me even if it's bad news, that you're gonna be Sami. And Sami knows how to fight. And when Sami fights, not even-- not even cancer stands a chance.

Carly: I think I could do it. And I think it would be good for me.

Norman: Carly, how do you

feel about your decision? I'm just joking. I think a trip could be just what the doctor ordered.

Melanie: [Chuckles] We'll take care of her. I promise.

Nicholas: And we'll let you win license plate poker.

Carly: We're playing for money, then.

Melanie: Oh...uh... pbbbt! I'm still hungry.

Carly: Of course you are.

Melanie: [Laughs]

Nicholas: You know what, me too. Let's see what we can forage.

Melanie: Okay. Do you guys want anything?

Carly: No, honey, I'm good. I'm great. Go.

Melanie: Okay.

Carly: Thank you. This was more wonderful than you can even imagine.

Norman: You have wonderful kids.

Carly: Mm-hmm. It was perfect.

Norman: Carly, I need to remind you that you still haven't answered my question.

Carly: I was hoping you wouldn't have noticed that.

Norman: Mm-hmm. So before you move on, do you feel like you could finally forgive yourself?

Bo: Okay. Thanks, McTeague. The sketch artist is on his way to the hospital to talk to Mandy.

Hope: Great. Hope she doesn't stop for coffee.

Bo: Yeah. If we get a good description, some DNA of the attacker off the crime scene, we'll be on our way to solving this case.

Hope: From your mouth to god's ears.

Bo: Yeah.

Brady: Well, I hope she can hear. It's important that she knows that there are so many people out here that love her... no matter what situation she's in.

Maxine: Chloe is lucky to have people who care. She's so lucky to have you.

Brady: She's right. There are so many people that love you, Chloe. They want to see you get better. So why don't you do me a favor and get better. Promise me that. Get better.

Sami: Would you consider yelling at me?

Rafe: Why?

Sami: Well, then we can pretend like everything is normal and that this isn't... what it is.

Rafe: Hey, hey, hey, look at what we've gotten through. We're gonna get through this.

Sami: I'm scared.

Rafe: Yeah. Yeah, I get that. Of course you are. But I meant what I said earlier. When you fight, no one fights harder, okay? We're gonna get through this together. I'll be here for you, okay? I'm here.

Sami: Like always.

Rafe: Yeah. Like always. Like always and forever. I love you.

Sami: I love you.

Rafe: It's gonna be okay.

Lexie: Sorry to have kept you waiting. It has been a very busy morning.

Rafe: Hey, no problem.

Sami: So do you have the test results?

Lexie: You ready to hear them?

Sami: Yes. Yes, I am.

Mandy: He kept hitting me. It really hurt bad.

Hope: Okay. It's okay. Does this look like the man who attacked you?

Mandy: That's him.

Chloe: Gus...
