Bo: Oh, my goodness, I'm so relieved for Maggie and you and the whole family.
Hope: My gosh, Bo, it was... it was absolutely incredible. I mean, she started breathing and then she--she was back.
Bo: Just like that?
Hope: Just like--
Bo: That's amazing. Hey, Mike, yeah?
Mike: Excuse me, that break...just came in.
Bo: Thank you, thank you.
Hope: Thanks, Mike.
Mike: You're welcome. Oh... hey, hey. You should take a look at this.
Hope: Oh, my God. Not again.
Vivian: [Sighs] Yes, Gus, I said rehab. Evidently, Carly is determined to kick her drug addiction. How do I feel? Well, hell will have to freeze over before I let that happen. Now, I want you to find out whether she's in the hospital and where. And what I have to do to make sure that she fails miserably and permanently.
Melanie: Thank you so much. Um, that was my contact at the rehab center.
Carly: What'd she say?
Melanie: She, um, had nothing but positive things to say. She said they have a really high success rate.
Carly: Well, I'll try not to mess up their percentage. [Laughs] A little...humor. Lame. Okay.
Melanie: Um, ready to go?
Carly: Yeah, I just have one stop I have to make first, okay?
Melanie: Okay. I'll get this bag.
Abby: Hey, you got everything?
Chad: What I could find.
Chad: We're leaving, Kate.
Kate: I can see that.
Chad: Got a few things. I'll have to come back for more of my stuff later.
Kate: And when you do that, will you deign to check on your father? Do you ask how he is? Do you even care enough to wonder?
Chad: I do care about him, Kate.
Kate: You care about yourself...no one else.
EJ: Didn't know you were here.
Taylor: I came to see how Chad was doing.
EJ: He's fine. They let him go home.
Taylor: But he's not going home, is he?
EJ: Not to my understanding, no.
Taylor: You know, I overheard...you and your father. All that talk about changing. That's what it was, uh... just talk.
EJ: I am my father's son, Taylor. And I'm going to be that way for the rest of my life.
Bo: It's the same M.O. as the first woman who was attacked.
Hope: Except this victim wasn't a streetwalker. She was a high-priced call girl.
Bo: Hmm. This should open up the possibility of an on-the-record investigation. Maybe we can persuade our new, cranky boss to let us on this case.
Hope: No...no, we're not gonna do that.
[Key rattles on table]
Chad: I'm sorry that's how you feel, Kate. But you certainly gain new perspective on life when someone takes a pot shot at you and your girlfriend.
Kate: Do you know how desperate your father was, how panicked he was when he found out that you were hurt? He rushed out of here without giving a second thought to his own safety.
Chad: That's not what this is about, Kate
Kate: No, it's not what it's about; it's about the fact that you don't care about the man whose devotion to you knows no bounds. Chad...don't leave. Tell your father you made a mistake. If you do that, there will be peace, I promise you. All of this will end.
Taylor: Oh, I am very clear about whose son you are, EJ.
EJ: Yet you ask me to stick around. Why is that?
Taylor: Because, despite the fact that you are the most maddening person I know, I care about what happens to you.
EJ: So you keep saying.
Taylor: EJ, I want you to live the kind of life I know you can live. One that is not dictated by your father. What? What, what, what, what? Why--why--why won't you talk to me?
EJ: I just keep trying to find some way to explain... I have an idea. Would you come with me, please? Just--please.
Hope: Brady...you know as well as I do that, unless there's substantial proof that there's a connection between the two attacks, there's no way your brother's gonna go for it.
Bo: Well, we can try--
Hope: Wait a second. Oh, it's Jennifer. Must be about Maggie. Hey, Jen, how's Maggie doing? You're kidding.
Carly: Hi, Maxine.
Maxine: Oh, it's so good to see you, honey. How you doin'?
Carly: Oh, got a ways to go.
Maxine: We're all thinking of you.
Carly: Ah, thanks. Listen, um... I was really short with you... a lot, when there was no excuse for any of it. I'm--I'm sorry.
Maxine: Don't you worry about that, okay? You just get yourself well. I need you here.
Carly: Oh, I think that ship has sailed. Uh, is Lexie around?
Maxine: She's in surgery.
Carly: Okay, I could just leave my resignation on her desk.
Maxine: Your resignation?
Melanie: Whoa, Mom! No, no, no. Don't worry about it. Let's take care of that when you get back.
Maxine: Melanie's right. If you just leave Lexie a note requesting a leave of absence, that's all you need to do, Carly.
Carly: You're being very kind.
Maxine: No...practical. I need you here. The whole staff does.
Melanie: Yeah. Okay? Um...I wanna check on Maggie. I hear she's off the ventilator?
Maxine: Yeah, breathing on her own.
Melanie: That's so great.
Maxine: She even, uh, woke up and spoke to Mr. Kiriakis a little.
Melanie: Oh...okay. Um, five minutes?
Carly: Go ahead, it'll be fine.
[Cell phone ringing]
Maxine: You're brave to come home, Carly. Try to make things right. Get help.
Carly: Thank you.
Maxine: You take care of yourself, sweetie.
Carly: Thanks. [Sighs]
Vivian: Dr. Manning, here for a refill?
Chad: So you're saying that, if I don't move out of the house, Stefano will stop running his business the way he has since long before I was born? And no one's life will ever again be in danger? I mean, really, Kate?
Kate: Really, Chad.
Chad: [Laughs] Well, you're dreaming. Or you're lying.
Kate: Your father welcomed you into this house when he found out who you were. He was...delighted to find out that he had another son, and he made it perfectly clear to you how much he loved you and how much you were a part of this family.
Chad: He wanted another ally, Kate. Another son to join in on all the fun--the shootings, the replacing of people with lookalikes and whatever.
Kate: No, what you need to understand is that your father is a very sensitive man, much more so than he appears. And when you told him that you were moving out of this house, and you didn't want to be a part of his life, you broke his heart.
Chad: I'm sorry for that. But I can't risk getting killed to stay under his roof.
Abby: Kate, can't you see how hard this is for Chad to do?
Kate: But he would do anything for you, wouldn't he?
Abby: Look, I just want him to be safe, okay? That's all.
Kate: No, you want him to be something he's not.
Chad: That is not true.
Kate: Oh, isn't it? She'll be with you, but only if you're not part of us. And you're doing everything you possibly can to prove that to her.
Chad: I'm just trying to protect her. And myself. I'm trying to lead a normal life...where I don't have to wake up every morning wondering who's gonna try and shoot me today.
Kate: Don't throw away your legacy. You wanna be your own man, then stand up and be one! And you don't let anyone tell you that your family isn't good enough for you.
Taylor: Why--why did you bring me here, EJ?
EJ: This is where my brother was shot, over here.
Taylor: I know, I was... here, remember?
EJ: You know, I heard that gunshot... I realized he was hurt. And you think that something like that...would make me want to get as far away from my family as possible, but, actually, it really had the opposite effect, hmm?
Taylor: So is this how you want your children to see you?
EJ: I'm not gonna stand by when somebody goes after my brother or my father or me.
Taylor: You're not gonna stand by, or you're...not gonna stop the insanity? Are you gonna go after Victor and Brady again?
Kate: Your father came straight home from the hospital after talking to you and to--to bed. And when he's like that, he doesn't care about his health. So his blood sugar levels could be dangerously low.
Chad: Kate, stop it.
Kate: He is not a well man. He is not a young man.
Chad: Right...definitely not. But, oddly enough, when things are going his way, he suddenly seems strong as a horse. Let's get out of here.
Kate: I have quite a few years on you, Chad. I can say...pretty much with certainty that you are too young to realize that love and romance... [Scoffs] Are fleeting. Ephemeral. But family... family's forever.
Bo: What was that about?
Hope: Carly--she's back.
Bo: Since when?
Hope: Apparently, she walked right into the pub and said she needed help. Jennifer and Daniel were there. Melanie too. She's going to rehab today, Bo.
Bo: Well, that's--that's great.
Bo: Hope she gets the help she needs.
Hope: I hope so too.
Bo: Okay, um... these two women, same M.O. Now, I'll bet you anything there's more women out there who've been attacked. So if we can find them...
Hope: Maybe they'll lead us to the attacker...bingo.
Bo: Exactly, yeah.
Vivian: How lucky to run into you, Carly.
Carly: Not so much for me.
Vivian: Tell me something. Do you get your drugs at the hospital coffers, or do you meet your drug dealer at the toxic waste?
Carly: I know you've reveled in this information about me, but the parade is over.
Vivian: Oh, is it?
Carly: Yeah, it is. Nicholas knows. My whole family knows. My place of employment knows. So there's really nobody you need to alert about my problem. And I'm going into rehab, so there's no damage you can inflict that I haven't managed to cause all on my own.
Vivian: Well, how fortuitous that some kind soul decided to help nurse you through your toxicity.
Carly: How do you know that?
Vivian: And he's very charming, isn't he? Quite handsome. And, um...probably takes after his mama.
Carly: His mama? What are you talking about?
Vivian: He's my son. First-born.
Quinn: Is she hurt? Stabbed as well? Like the other girl a few weeks ago. No, no, I don't know that name. She doesn't work for me. But this is the second attack. No, this isn't good at all.
Kate: I know your family quite well, Abigail. They're upstanding people. Virtuous, moral... and they definitely believe that we DiMeras are beneath them.
Abby: I care about Chad, Kate. I just want him to be safe.
Kate: Wow. There's a nonsequitur.
Abby: No one in my family thinks that Chad is beneath me.
Kate: Then why did you tell him to renounce his father?
Chad: She didn't. It was my decision.
Kate: Hmm. Perhaps. We all know that we're influenced by the people we love, especially, well, in all matters, really. Including family. I mean, that story is as old as the hills, isn't it? Where do our loyalties lie?
Chad: Kate, from day one... when I moved into this house, when I found out that Stefano was my father--
Kate: He opened his arms to you immediately.
Chad: Yes. Yes, he did. And it's one of the reasons why I stayed. But I turned my head away from everything that I didn't want to see. I'm not leading this life, Kate.
Kate: You don't see the big picture.
Chad: Oh, and you do? What, you think you're bulletproof? Well, you're not. None of us are.
EJ: So after Chad was shot, ahem, my father went to Victor and he asked him for a truce. Victor said, uh...said it was too late.
Taylor: Too late to stop killing each other?
EJ: He says this as he's sitting in front of Maggie, asking for forgiveness. Anyway, it doesn't matter. The point is, look, Chad's moved out. He's told my father he's turning his back on the family.
Taylor: So that's why you promised you'd stay with your father.
EJ: My father...will do everything in his power to protect his family. And I am not going to walk away from that.
Taylor: So you would kill... to protect him? EJ, don't you see that, if you do what your father does, it makes you no less of a monster than him.
EJ: A monster? That's what you think of when you look at me?
Taylor: EJ...EJ, we've been through this dozens of times. My mother is dead because of something your father put in motion.
EJ: Because of me. Because of me.
Taylor: No, it-- I saw your remorse. I saw your willingness to change. You gave up your children. For God's sake, you gave them back to Sami so--so they could be saved, so you could keep them out of all this bloodshed. That was because you wanted to change, because you were trying to be a better man.
EJ: On the contrary. If I thought that I could have changed, I wouldn't have given up my children. I tried to change. For you. Didn't work, did it? To protect my children from who I am, who I really am. That's why I gave them up.
Taylor: Okay, well, you can still make a difference. You can just reach out to your father.
EJ: What would be the point in doing that, hmm? Victor's not interested in a truce!
Taylor: So it doesn't end with Chad, then, does it? He is not the last person who gets hurt for nothing, and it really doesn't seem to matter who is, as long as you get revenge on the Kiriakises.
EJ: Taylor, just do what I told you, all right? Just go away, walk away, turn around, don't look back. Do me a favor and stay away from me, all right?
Bo: Talked to a couple of my contacts on the street. Have them check around, see if any other women have been attacked.
Hope: There's absolutely no way this sicko hasn't done this many times before. I'm gonna check the databases. See if I can find similar crimes in other areas. Anything, anything that will give us a lead. What? Why are you looking at me like that? What?
Bo: It's just been a long time since we've worked together. Almost forgot what it's like. We make a pretty good team.
Hope: Pretty good?
Bo: The, uh, the best team, the...a perfect team. You know. Pretty darn good team.
Carly: Your son?
Vivian: Oh! You don't see the resemblance? The marvelous bone structure and those glorious, wide-set almond eyes.
Carly: Yeah, well, that's-- that's just mean. I don't know how you found out about the guy who helped me, but to lay claim to him, to say that he's your...
Vivian: Quinn? Well, he's just from a brief affair.
Carly: Oh, no. It-- this is outrageous.
Vivian: Is it? Why do you suppose I was knocking at his door this morning?
Carly: You knew that I was there?
Vivian: Well, at first, I didn't. I just knocked because I thought he was late for breakfast. Of course, I didn't know about his mercy mission with you. Oh, and by the way... I did tell him about his cousin Lawrence... and the miserable end that he came to.
Carly: Quinn knew about Lawrence?
Vivian: Oh, not only did he know... but he was helping me avenge his death.
Abby: Yeah, it's the best news, Mom. Carly being back and Aunt Maggie waking up, it's just-- it's great. Chad's...he's okay. Yeah, I will. Love you too.
Abby: Well, I didn't tell her what happened to you, or that I was there when it happened.
Chad: Well, she'll probably find out sooner or later.
Abby: Probably, but... I'll deal with it then. We already have enough to process right now. So any luck about renting a room from Caroline?
Chad: Mm, no, not yet, but I left a message. But...listen, you know, if you-- if you want to go back to the hospital and check up on Maggie--
Abby: No, no, no, she's getting a million tests today. It's better that I see her tomorrow.
Chad: Okay. It's strange.
Abby: What is?
Chad: This is not how I expected my day to go when I woke up this morning.
Abby: In your father's house.
Chad: With what Kate was saying. Just don't let it get to you, okay?
Abby: I don't plan on it.
Chad: Well, if you do... later, just know that I didn't do anything I didn't want to do today. Except get shot. [Chuckles] Ohh.
Abby: Chad, I'm just glad you're okay. I was...I was really worried about you.
Chad: Well... you won't have to be anymore. Because it's all over now.
Taylor: What, why is it, whenever we get to the part of this conversation where I tell you to take care of yourself, you tell me to run away and not look back?
EJ: Because I can't be who you want me to be.
Taylor: You know, when I realized the truth about who you were, I knew that we couldn't be together. And I realized I would have to find a way to live my life without you. Okay, so... I know, all right? So please don't say it again. I am leaving. And I won't look back.
Bo: Yeah, yeah. Thanks. Nothin'--no one's talking.
Hope: I'm getting anywhere, either. This guy is good. He covers his tracks.
Bo: Yeah, well, he'll make a mistake sooner or later.
Hope: Yeah, and we'll be there to catch him.
Bo: I just hope he slips up before somebody else gets seriously hurt.
Carly: What does that even mean? What did you tell Quinn to do to me?
Vivian: Oh...darling... you hid your drug addiction so well. How do you supposed I heard about it? Yes, your knight in shining armor, when he heard, well, he kept you stocked up when you ran out here.
Carly: No, that's insane. Why--how could he?
Vivian: How? He's a drug dealer.
Carly: That's not true.
Vivian: Oh, isn't it? Why don't you ask him yourself? He's a lot of things that he doesn't seem to be. Like when he found out that I had a friend, a person that I hated most in the world... well, he helped keep you supplied.
Carly: No...you're making this up. Okay, he--he took me in, and he gave me a place to stay.
Vivian: Mm-hmm. You leaned on him, didn't you? Of course, in your condition... he lied to your face. He made you trust him, and then he helped you fall.
Carly: He brought me back to my family.
Vivian: Mm, that was a twinge of remorse. All the rest of it, truth.
Carly: No...no, it can't be.
Vivian: Really? Why don't you ask him yourself? That is, if you can find him. Oh, he was a great service to me, until he wasn't. Oh, by the way. Good luck in rehab. You know, I think you're gonna like it. I hear that there are hours and hours and hours of talking about yourself. And then, finally, they let you go out into the world to find your own drugs all over again. Happy detox to you.
Melanie: Hey...you ready to go?
Carly: As ready as I'll ever be.
Chad: So how did you pull off getting us a picnic basket?
Abby: Well, when you were making your calls about finding a place to stay...
Abby: I, uh, I just called and ordered us some food. I figured that doing something boring and a little bit homey might make what happened to you earlier a bit more bearable.
Chad: How is this boring? This is--honestly, this is great, really.
[Chad clears throat]
Abby: Um, you want me to help you with that? Um...
Chad: 'Cause I can. I can...
Abby: Oh, really?
Abby: Give it a shot, buddy. How's your arm?
Chad: Ooh! Ow, ow, ow. Uh, yeah, the painkillers are definitely wearing off right now.
Abby: Oh...well, maybe you should have kept your sling on.
Chad: No, no, it's too annoying; can't do it.
Abby: Oh, yeah, let me look at it.
Chad: Ow, ow. Okay. All right.
Abby: Relax, I just need to check your bandages.
Chad: All right.
Abby: Try to bring your arm up. Okay, let me see. Um...yeah. Looks...good. There's, um...there's no... blood seeping...through. So that's good.
Abby: Um... look, I, um... I want you to know how proud I am of you. I know it wasn't easy to say what you said to your father and to EJ. You know, all this pressure that Kate's putting on you, it just... I'm so impressed by you and how you're handling all this.
Chad: Oh. I'm done, like I said.
Abby: So like, really done?
Chad: Like...really done.
Abby: As in like no second thoughts done?
Chad: No, none.
Kate: Where have you been?
EJ: To the hospital. You've just seen me there.
Kate: I know that. After that--I left you three messages.
EJ: Well, my phone was switched off. What's wrong? Where's Father?
Kate: Where's your father? Where's your brother? Where's the whole damn family?
EJ: All right, would you just tell me what is wrong?
Kate: Chad has already moved out. When your father came back from the hospital, from talking to him, he went to his room. He hasn't come down. He's heartbroken.
EJ: [Sighs] Yeah, I know. I tried to talk to him earlier, but he's not budging. Look, I made him a promise. I told him I would stand by him, and I meant it. I'll take care of this whole Victor-Brady nonsense, and I'll make sure nobody comes near Father.
Kate: Well...that may not be necessary.
EJ: What do you mean?
Kate: What I'm saying is that if Victor wants Stefano dead, he may not have to do anything to accomplish it after what happened today. Because your father is already dying.
Melanie: Mom, you sure you don't want something to eat before you go to the center?
Carly: No, no, no, just coffee--I don't have much of an appetite.
Melanie: I understand.
Carly: So they said Maggie was okay, but you couldn't see her?
Melanie: Uh, yeah. No, she was getting a CT scan. I talked to the nurse, though. She's alert, conscious.
Carly: Oh, good. I hope I can be half as strong as Maggie is.
Melanie: You already are.
Carly: I ran away. I made you and your father sick with worry.
[Cell phone ringing]
Melanie: Just get better, okay? Shoot. It's the hospital, um... can I take this really fast? You go get our coffees then--
Carly: Yeah, I can do that.
Melanie: Okay, sorry. Hello?
Quinn: Carly, hi. How did things go-- ohh.
Carly: You son of a bitch.
Kate: How is he?
EJ: You're right. He's miserable. Barely lifted his head.
Kate: 'Cause he wants his family here. That's the only thing that's going to make him feel like he can go on.
EJ: Well, he has the two of us, so he's just going to have to make due with that idea.
Kate: Not if you do the right thing.
Carly: Vivian Alamain is your mother?
Quinn: Carly, who told you?
Carly: Your mother. Your mother told me, the one you plotted with to get me even more hooked on drugs. You're a--you're a dealer?
Carly: For what, for an excuse? You kept me at your place, you saw me writhing in pain, the lowest point in my life...and you went off and you laughed with your mother about me behind my back, right?
Quinn: Carly, I did not laugh at you with my mother, not for a moment. When I found you, I had no idea who you were. You were a total stranger to me. That is the absolute truth. Look, and when I did learn who you were, I--I felt so terribly guilty and responsible... I didn't want to hurt you. And I did not laugh at you with my mother. And I am so, so sorry you had to hear about it this way.
Carly: You're so disgusting. Just get away from me, before I lose it!
Bo: Anything jumping out at you?
Hope: No. But I wanna ask around.
Bo: Okay. I'll go with you.
Hope: No, you don't have to. It's okay. It's just questioning. I promise. Nothing dangerous. Then I want to call some of our contacts in the street.
Bo: All right. I'll walk you out. Come on.
Hope: Chivalry is not dead.
Bo: [Chuckles] Hey, Roman.
Roman: You and Hope are working behind my back. Aren't you?
Chad: What's going on? Why do you look so sad all of a sudden?
Abby: 'Cause I'm worried. Worried that you're...gonna wake up and want your family back.
Chad: Well, Abigail, that is not going to happen.
Abby: But if it did, you wouldn't be afraid to tell me, right?
Chad: I'm not gonna be afraid to tell you anything, Abigail. As long as I know that, no matter what, you're on my side. You're on my side, aren't you?
Kate: When is your father going to come first?
EJ: Kate, what exactly is it that you want from me?
Kate: I'm telling you that Chad would never have moved out of this house, even with the terrible accident that happened to Maggie, unless he had Abigail Deveraux whispering in his ear that this family is not good enough for him.
EJ: So... [Laughs] So you want me to break up Chad and Abigail?
Abby: Yeah, of course, I'm on your side, Chad. But I'm worried about you. I'm worried that you're gonna sleep on it and...wonder if maybe you moved too fast.
Chad: Well...I guess you'll never know how you'll feel until you get there. Right now...I can't imagine changing my mind about my father and the family. And if doing this keeps you with me, keeps you safe, then that's more important to me than anything, Abigail.
EJ: Kate, Chad is in no way going to be persuaded to leave Abigail just because I ask him to--if anything, it's going to make him fall more in love with the bloody girl.
Kate: This is for your father's sake. If you don't make this happen, we're going to lose him.
Quinn: Yeah, hello, Mother. I'd like to thank you for outing my business to Carly Manning. Do you feel like you've gotten back at me now? Are we done? Wait, let me answer that for the both of us--yes, we are.
Taylor: Well, that was quite a show in there.
Quinn: [Scoffs] Yeah, you should know. You've been the star of quite a few of your own, haven't you?
Melanie: They're ready for you.
Melanie: You okay?
Carly: Yeah. Maybe getting here is the hard part, 'cause I feel a million times better. No more running, no more hiding, makes this place seem beside the point.
Melanie: Um... you're gonna do great here.
Carly: I'm gonna do what I have to do. Listen to me. [Crying] I am so sorry for all the terrible mistakes I've made. And I love you more than my own life.
Melanie: Just love yourself again, okay? I love you. You're gonna get through this. We'll talk soon. Okay. Okay. [Sighs]
Diane: Dr. Manning?
Diane: I'm Diane. I'm your intake nurse.
Carly: Hi, Diane. Let's go do this.
Bo: Two call girls were attacked. It's a pattern worth investigating.
Roman: There are no witnesses. No DNA evidence, nothing. What am I supposed to do when I have cases on my desk that can be solved?
Bo: Since when do we pick and choose who matters? What the hell's going on here, Roman?
Roman: I told you and Hope to drop this. This is my second and final warning.
Hope: Right here. Who is this guy? What does he have against all these women?
On the next "Days of Our Lives" --
Quinn (to Chloe): I just spoke to a new client; he'll meet you as scheduled.
Chloe: Hello? Someone there?
Hope: May I ask you what you're doing down here?
Man: I'm meeting my date.
