Melanie: All right, so that weirdo that the cops picked up said he knew where mom was, and he doesn't? All right, that's-- okay, well, just call me if you know anything. Yeah, obviously. No, I'm fine. I'm with Dario. I love you, too. Bye.

Dario: Nothing?

Melanie: Nope. This is a really great day. My mom's a drug addict. She's run away. And EJ realized that Brady's the one that beat him up. And to top it off, all that stuff that Brady said about not doing anything stupid, I don't believe a word of it.

Daniel: This much-- well, it'll make a man stupid.

Melanie: [Scoffs] Yeah. Remember when you thought I was that rich divorcee that's life was perfect?

Dario: Brady can handle himself.

Melanie: When he's sober, which is not very often.

Dario: Melanie, we're go find your mom. And I have an idea on how to do it.

Melanie: Really?

Dario: Yeah. Let's go.

Melanie: Okay.

Vivian: So you left a beautiful woman in your bed to go to a drugstore?

Quinn: She has a headache.

Vivian: Why, did she guzzle all that champagne I left for you?

Quinn: [Chuckles] Actually, mother, that's really none of your business.

Vivian: Oh, well, you can be as fresh as you want. You can't dampen my spirits. Carly is out there somewhere, probably in a gutter. Life is not as she knows it anymore. And it's all because of you, my handsome, intelligent son.

[Carly gasping]

Quinn: You okay?

Carly: I am now. Where am I?

Quinn: You're safe. I just need to find out who you are so I can help. You can take pride in what we've done, I suppose, but, uh, I find it a bit difficult.

Vivian: Why? What happened?

[Carly breathing irregularly]

Jennifer: What in the world?

Carly: What--what is it?

Jennifer: Carly, you can't see this.

Carly: No. No.

Jennifer: Who would send this?

Carly: Give me that. Ow--

Jennifer: Why would--

Carly: Oh, god! Oh, god!

Melanie: Oh, my god, are you okay?

Carly: I'm okay.

Melanie: Okay.

Carly: You saw that picture.

Melanie: I don't care. I don't care about the picture. I just care about you. It's gonna be different now, okay? We're gonna take care of you.

Carly: [Shudders] It was a dream? It had to be. They don't know. Nobody does. Or do they?

Nicole: Uh, EJ?

EJ: Hello, Nikki. It's a lovely night, isn't it?

Nicole: Why aren't you in the hospital?

EJ: I checked myself out.

Nicole: Can you do that?

EJ: I just did.

Nicole: Okay, please don't confuse this with me actually giving a damn, but is that a really good idea? Because I'm the one who found you, and I know what kind of shape you were in.

EJ: It was a, uh, momentary episode, stress related. Anyway, I feel fine now. You know, I can't waste my time in a hospital bed. Things to do.

Nicole: May I ask why you're suddenly so busy?

EJ: You may. I remember what happened the night I was attacked.

Nicole: And you-- you think you know who did it?

EJ: Oh, no. I don't think, Nikki. I know. It was your friend... Brady black.

Brady: All right, EJ, forewarned is... forearmed.

Taylor: Are you out of your ever-loving mind?

Victor: My politically correct son doesn't manage titan TV anymore--I do. And I expect both the 6:00 and the 11:00 news to lead off with the story of Carly manning's disappearance and to keep leading off with it until she's found! I don't care! No more bird stories! [Clears throat] Oh...

Maggie: Hi.

Victor: Obviously, I didn't know you were there.

Maggie: I got that.

Victor: Look, the reason I'm pushing the Carly manning story is I figure the more people know about it, the more likely she is to be found.

Maggie: Well, that makes sense.

Victor: That's it? No questioning my true motives?

Maggie: No. I asked you to dinner tonight because, um, I've decided I owe you an apology.

Nicole: Brady? Why would he beat you up? Okay, I know, he hates you, all right? Most people hate you. But what about Rafe? What about one of the Bradys or Sami? I mean, she's already shot you in the head.

EJ: Well, because Melanie Jonas wouldn't lift a finger to cover for any of them.

Nicole: Okay, now you lost me.

EJ: After I was attacked, I was sort of in and out of consciousness. And... I remembered... Melanie was there. She was caring for me, but not out of any concern for me.

Nicole: Why not? Isn't she a nurse?

EJ: Well, because when I told her that I remembered that I knew that Brady was there, I saw the look-- and, oh, I know she tried to deny it, obviously, but that look, Nikki... that look told me everything.

Nicole: Okay, let's say you're right... which I don't believe that you are. What are you gonna do about it?

EJ: [Sighs]

Taylor: Will you put that thing down, please?

Brady: All right. I thought we agreed that you and Nicole weren't gonna follow me.

Taylor: Yeah, well, Nicole made that deal, not me.

Brady: Look, Taylor, EJ knows it's me who beat him up, right? So what do you want me to do, act like nothing's happened? You want me to wait around till one of his goons takes a shot at me? What do you want me to do?

Taylor: Come on, there has to be another way to deal with this.

Brady: There is. Run off with Nicole. That's what I could do. You hated that idea, by the way.

Taylor: Well, that was before I realized that this actually is exciting to you. You like this.

Brady: I love this.

Victor: You come in here looking like that, you don't have to apologize for a damn thing.

Maggie: I disagree.

Victor: You could have started the cold war. No problem.

Maggie: Okay, you're trying to get me off point, and I'm not gonna let you.

Victor: All right, go ahead. Apologize.

Maggie: Okay, here goes. [Clears throat] Since I've got to know you better, all you've tried to do is make me happy. I've always been suspicious of that, and of you. So I want to apologize... for being scared... and judgmental. And for putting up roadblocks that shouldn't be there.

Victor: Apology accepted. Let's eat.

Melanie: Nuh-uh-- there's more. We don't see eye to eye most of the time. But when it's just you and me and the rest of the world is outside of these four walls... I feel very cherished and adored... and loved.

Victor: Well, good.

Maggie: I've been so busy putting my defenses up, I'm not sure I've made you feel that way.

Victor: You've done all right.

Maggie: I know we're not as young as we used to be, but we're certainly not dead either.

Victor: [Chuckles]

Maggie: So I've just come to realize that I don't want to waste any more time.

Victor: Hallelujah.

Maggie: So may I assume you feel the same way?

Victor: Absolutely.

Maggie: Ha! Who are you calling?

Victor: Well, you know all those obstacles you were talking about? They're all right here in Salem. You and I are going to see the world--the real world-- together.

Maggie: You want to leave Salem?

Victor: Damn straight.

Dario: Rafe.

Rafe: Oh, hey, you two. You must be looking for word on your mom.

Melanie: I think I know all there is to know, and it's not really a lot.

Rafe: Yeah. Listen, I'm really sorry about what's happened.

Melanie: Thanks.

Dario: Look, I was thinking, uh, you know a lot of people in the FBI. Why don't you get into this?

Rafe: Well, the FBI is federal. This case--it isn't.

Dario: But you're still gonna help out, right?

Rafe: If Bo asks me to, yes.

Dario: What, you need to be asked?

Rafe: It's not my case.

Dario: Why? What does that matter?

Melanie: Hey, don't.

Rafe: Listen, Bo and hope are doing everything that they possibly can to find your mother, all right? Trust me on that.

Dario: Melanie's mom used to be Bo Brady's girlfriend. You really think that Bo's wife is doing everything she can--

Rafe: Okay, you can stop that kind of talk right now, all right?

Dario: I'll keep quiet when you stop going by the book.

Carly: [Breathing unsteadily] I'm in withdrawals and detox. That's why everything seems so... okay. Okay, think. What's the last thing you remember, the last real thing? Okay...pills, and taking them. The alley... waking up here. All that other stuff-- Jennifer and Daniel and Melanie--that was in my head. It had to be, 'cause if it was real... no, it can't be. It can't. It can't. Quinn found me. I'm gonna be all right... 'cause if he hadn't-- oh, god, if he hadn't... [Crying]

Quinn: Calm down, ma. I just meant that revenge, while often necessary, is usually not very pleasant.

Vivian: Oh, well, for you, perhaps, but not for me. Getting revenge on Carly is like, ooh, slipping into a warm bath. I haven't been this happy or this peaceful since... such a long time. You would have loved Lawrence.

Quinn: Yeah, from the little I've heard about him, he sounds like quite a guy.

Vivian: You would have been like brothers.

Quinn: I guess so.

Vivian: You know, I was just talking to Gus about fate this evening.

Quinn: Where is he, anyway? I thought he followed you around.

Vivian: Oh, well, you know, he had a fit of pique. He'll get over it.

Quinn: You'll have to amuse yourself, then. I've really got to go.

Vivian: To take care of your friend? I hope it's nothing serious.

Quinn: Don't worry. It's nothing I can't handle. When it comes to getting my family to eat breakfast,

Maggie: I say what I just said to you, and your reaction is start planning to leave Salem without even asking me what I think of the idea?

Victor: Does this mean you're taking back your apology?

Maggie: Do I have to spell it out for you again? Our families are here.

Victor: Maggie...

Maggie: And our businesses are here, and my friends are here. Of course that isn't a problem for you, since you don't have any friends.

Victor: Can I say something now?

Maggie: I don't know. What do you want to say?

Victor: I wasn't talking about leaving for good.

Maggie: Oh.

Victor: I just thought that maybe Doug and Julie could look after the Horton family matters for a while, and I could ask Bo to do the same thing in my family. I mean, there's not much for me to do at titan anymore, thanks to Brady. So I-- what I was trying to say in my own ham-fisted way is that I just want spend all my time now focused... on you.

Maggie: Oh, Victor.

Victor: Would that be all right?

Maggie: That would be more than all right.

Dario: Melanie doesn't know where her mother is, and you're worried about stepping on somebody's toes?

Rafe: I know that you want to help, but coming in here and making cracks about hope Brady isn't gonna help you get anything.

Dario: What will?

Rafe: I will do everything that I can, okay? I just have to do it carefully, because the department is under a lot of scrutiny right now by the D.A.'S office.

Dario: Why?

Rafe: Why? Because the DiMeras, they were able to position a guy in here and pass him off as me.

Melanie: Okay. No, I get what you're saying. Okay? He's just--you're the best. So I appreciate all the help that you can give us.

Rafe: I will do everything that I possibly can. Can I talk to my brother for a minute or two alone?

Melanie: Yeah, of course. Sorry. I'm gonna call my dad.

Rafe: I'll nose around on my own, okay? I'll see what I can come up with. I'll make some calls down to the bureau and see if there's anyone who can help me there, uh... unofficially.

Dario: Good. That's more like it.

Rafe: But I don't know what I can do to convince you that I am not the jerk that you think that I am.

Taylor: A gun?

Brady: Mm-hmm.

Taylor: A gun? You're gonna start packing heat? What is this, tombstone, Arizona?

Brady: You heard what Nicole said about Stefano and EJ, right? She's not wrong? They're gonna come after me with everything they got.

Taylor: Okay, but there has to be a way to de-escalate this, then.

Brady: Hey, maybe we should have a meeting with the heads of the families, you know? Does that sound good there? Tony soprano?

Taylor: All right, well, there's one other way. There's one other idea, something to do.

Brady: What--what is the other idea?

Taylor: I don't know. I can't believe that I'm actually gonna say this, but you should...take off with Nicole. And don't ever come back.

EJ: Yeah, you know, I really haven't decided exactly what I'm gonna do to Brady.

Nicole: Does Stefano know what you're thinking?

EJ: My dear, if my father had any idea, Brady would be splattered on a pavement somewhere.

Nicole: Well, of course, now I have to know why you're keeping this to yourself. Are you thinking about letting it go?

Rafe: Now, if I'm gonna help Melanie find her mother, I'm gonna do it my way. I don't need an ongoing commentary from you about how I do it, okay?

Dario: So you're really gonna do something?

Rafe: No, I was just saying that. What do you think? Of course I'm gonna do something. I mean, for crying out loud.

Dario: [Sighs] Look, when I came to Salem, I hadn't seen you in a long time. And I wanted to figure out who killed Arianna, so I asked the other guy for help-- the guy that I thought was you. And he said he wouldn't do anything.

Rafe: Dario, that wasn't me, okay?

Dario: Look, what I'm trying to say is that I stopped expecting anything from you... because I didn't know who you were. I hadn't seen you in such a long time.

Rafe: Okay. So, what, you're trying to make me feel guilty?

Dario: No. I'm trying to say I'm sorry.

Quinn: I really do have to go.

Vivian: Quinn... wait. I know I was suspicious when you first arrived here in Salem. It's because I was defensive, and I felt guilty that I didn't raise you.

Quinn: Really?

Vivian: Yeah. But now that I've gotten to know you, I feel... oh... so--I feel eternal. And I thought, well, maybe if you really were ill and had to go to the drugstore, that I-- I'd like to take care of you.

Quinn: Chicken soup and all that, huh?

Vivian: Yeah. Sure.

Quinn: Look, don't worry about me, ma--I'm fine.

Vivian: Oh, Quinn, one more thing. Um, now, I wanted to give this to you... when we had our dinner. But now is as good a time as any. It's--it's something-- it's something very important.

Quinn: Well, it looks like you've had it for a while.

Vivian: Well, yes. I bought it for you when you were--I don't know--10 or 11. I sent it to you in Australia, hoping to hear from you. But your father intercepted it and threatened me and said never to contact you. So I've carried it ever since. Go ahead--open it.

Quinn: Baseball cards?

Vivian: Yes. Yes. I wanted you to feel that you were... [Chuckles] Half American and... half me. And that you would look at those cards and think about a mother who would like to have done you better.

Quinn: I loved American baseball as a kid.

Vivian: Really?

Quinn: Yeah. The old man--he hated that. I used to listen to the games on the radio with headphones so he couldn't give me hell. How did you know?

Vivian: Oh, I don't know. Must have been just a lucky guess, you know? There are some very good ones in there. There's, um, Carl Erskine and Mookie Wilson.

Quinn: Oh, Dennis Eckersley. I loved this guy as a kid. The most dominant closer in the game, right? 1988 to 1992, I think.

Quinn: Thank you.

Vivian: You're welcome.

Quinn: I do have to go.

Brady: You must be really worried about me to suggest that I run off with your sister.

Taylor: Well, you took your life in your own hands when you decided to beat up EJ. Maybe you don't care about that. I do.

Brady: What's going on between us, anyway?

Taylor: You're being stupidly reckless, and I'm trying to stop you.

Brady: No, I think there's more to it than that. I don't think you want Nicole to tell EJ about that kiss. I think you're worried about that.

Taylor: Oh, my god, that meant nothing!

Brady: Are you sure you don't want to send me off packing so you don't have to run away from me yourself?

Nicole: Are you gonna answer my question? Are you thinking about letting this go?

EJ: Look, if somebody beat you up, they left you half dead on the pavement... would you just let it go?

Nicole: Maybe. Maybe if I thought I was getting a second chance at a happy life.

EJ: Oh, I see. You'd take the high road, would you?

Nicole: Yes. Yes. I did it for you when I found you on the floor in agony. I could have just left you there, you know.

EJ: Yeah, that must have been tempting.

Nicole: You have no idea. You've gotten lucky twice, EJ. But if you go after Brady, don't you think your luck will run out? I hate your guts. And for some reason-- maybe it's because I carried your child-- I don't want to see you dead.

Rafe: What are you sorry for?

Dario: I took off. I wasn't part of the family. So I forgot who you are. I thought the other guy was you, and I'M... sorry about that.

Rafe: Well... I'm sorry that... that I was so focused on my career that I wasn't the big brother I should have been.

Dario: What are you talking about? Arianna always thought that you did just fine, so did Gabi.

Rafe: No. I was gonna teach you everything. Keep you from making all the mistakes I made.

Dario: Mistakes. You're practically perfect.

Rafe: No, I'm not. I'm not. I always tried to tell you what to do and... and I bossed you around too much, especially after pop left.

Dario: You know what? I probably should have listened. I should have listened instead of getting mad and taking off.

Rafe: You know what? You finding Arianna's killer, doing what you're doing for Melanie right now... it makes me really proud that you're my brother. Okay? So how about this? I'll stop trying to tell you what's what, and you stop trying to be angry at me all the time, okay? How's that?

Dario: What, we gonna go shoot some hoops now?

Rafe: Why not?

Dario: Getting a bit old there, are you?

Rafe: I'll crush you. I will totally crush you.

Vivian: So you came to apologize.

Gus: No. I came to tell you that no matter how many sons come crawling out of the woodwork, you're nothing without me.

Quinn: Sorry I took so long. Here, take this. I'm gonna order you some soup from room service.

Carly: Did you buy some baseball cards?

Quinn: No. Someone gave 'em to me.

Carly: You like baseball?

Quinn: I did when I was young. I don't follow it much anymore, though.

Carly: My Nicky, he used to love goose gossage. Loved him. I think that's his name. He'd sit, and he'd watch the game on TV. I'd hear him yelling, "go, goose! Smoke it!"

[Laughs] I'm probably not gonna see him again.

Quinn: Don't think like that.

Carly: Why not? I killed his father. Now I have this annoying little drug problem. If you were my son, would you want to see me again?

Quinn: I can't answer that.

Carly: It's okay. It's okay. I had the same dream while you were gone, over and over. It's a picture. And everybody that I love had seen it.

Quinn: What kind of picture?

Carly: It was me passed out on the floor with pills next to me.

Quinn: That could be just a bad dream.

Carly: Sometimes I see Lawrence. And he's yelling at me. He's laughing. But it's--it's not real. I know that. I can't think. If it hadn't been for you...

Quinn: Hey, I just did what anyone would have done.

Carly: No, you did more. And I know I've been trying to get out of here and leave you alone. I tried again while you were gone, but my legs just go out from underneath me. Would you mind? May I stay a little while longer?

Taylor: The only thing that I feel when I look at you is terrified. You beat up EJ, you are waving around a gun. It's like you have some sort of death wish.

Brady: I'm sorry you're in the middle of it.

Taylor: Me too. But there's nothing that can be done about that, so...

Brady: What are you doing?

Taylor: I am trying to stop you. Yeah, hi. Yeah, can you connect me with the Salem P.D., Please--

Brady: No, no, no, no.

[Phone shatters]

Brady: [Sighs]

EJ: Nicole.

Nicole: Are you here because you listened to what I said?

EJ: Look, um, you said you don't want me dead. I don't really wish to get overly sentimental about it, but you did say it with a certain amount of sincerity. And you helped me when I was in a tremendous amount of pain, so... I just want you to know that, from me to you, if there's anything that I can do for you, just let me know.

Nicole: Don't kill Brady.

EJ: I said if there is anything I can do for you.

Nicole: That's what I want. Don't kill Brady. Don't even make a move on him, because if you do, then he'll come gunning for you. And then he'll wind up dead or in prison. You know how you keep trying to tell my sister that you're this changed, sensitive, new-age guy? Well, why don't you actually try being that guy?

EJ: Nicole, would you just think about this, all right? I'm offering you a chance to get away from all of your problems. Think about it-- a fresh start, a new place.

Nicole: Oh, I get it. I get it now, EJ. I mention our dead child, and you think you've got me. All this talk about gratitude-- you think you can buy me off? I should have known. You can't change your DNA. Go to hell, EJ.

Maggie: Can I get you a brandy or after-dinner drink?

Victor: My doctor says I'm supposed to knock that off.

Maggie: Good. I want you to be healthy.

Victor: You know, of all the women I've been with in my life, I think you're the first one that ever felt that way. And to think I tried to walk away from you.

Maggie: You know, when you stopped making fun of me for being such a Horton and for saying that you weren't worthy of me, I got scared.

Victor: So it worked.

Maggie: Oh...

Victor: [Chuckles]

Maggie: Oh! You think you're so tough and unsentimental. I hate to break it to you, but you're just a mush.

Victor: A mush?

Maggie: Yes. If I hadn't seen that tender heart that beats under all that bluster... I never would have fallen in love again.

Victor: So you're in love.

Maggie: Head over heels.

Victor: Fancy that. Me too.

Melanie: Sorry. Um, my dad hasn't heard anything yet.

Rafe: Well, I just promised my brother I'm gonna do everything that I can to help find your mother, so...

Melanie: Thanks.

Rafe: Yeah. Sorry, I got to go. I'll be in touch.

Melanie: Did you guys work some stuff out?

Dario: Yeah. My brother's the best. I know that now. If anybody could find your mom, it's him.

Melanie: I hope so. Whoever my mom's with, I hope she's with somebody nice.

Quinn: Look, Carly, I don't know if staying here is the best idea.

Carly: I'm sorry.

Quinn: Don't be.

Carly: I just thought if I could detox, if I could just get myself together, that--

Quinn: What about your family and friends? Won't they be worried about you?

Carly: I called the hospital, and I left a message that I was taking some time off, so they'll get that, and they won't worry about me.

Quinn: Carly, there are places and people that can help you more than I can.

Carly: Rehab. I don't do group therapy very well. I just need someplace quiet, where I can think. And this just feels like the place to be. I don't know why. Will you please help me? Please.

Vivian: So that's why you've been so moody. You feel unappreciated.

Gus: If you think that whelp you spawned and left all those years ago is gonna help you right all the wrongs in your life, you're sadly mistaken.

Taylor: I can't believe you broke the phone.

Brady: You're not calling the cops.

Taylor: I'll just call from my cell phone.

Brady: Hey! Get your hand out of your purse, all right? I'm not gonna break your cell phone, too.

Taylor: You know what? I was just gonna call Bo and ask him to put you in protective custody, okay? 'Cause I don't know what else to do.

Brady: Let me tell you what to do--nothing! You do nothing. You get out of this, and you stay out of it.

Taylor: Fine.

Brady: Butt out.

Taylor: Fine!

Brady: Thank you.

Taylor: Great. Oh, Brady... I'm so sorry. But I'm gonna take care of this on my own. We all want our kids to eat their vegetables,

Nicole: I am warning you, if you keep this war going and Brady ends up dead, I will make you pay.

EJ: This war, if you want to call it that, was started by Brady.

Nicole: I don't care. If he dies, I will spend every dime I have and every ounce of strength in my body to make sure justice is done. And when it is, I will be the one sitting in the front row when the needle is injected.

Maggie: Well, here we are.

Victor: Yes, and it's late. I probably should let you get some sleep.

Maggie: Hmm. I suppose.

Victor: You suppose?

Maggie: Um, uh... [Chuckles] I'm not really tired, truth be known-- kind of wound up, in fact. Uh, how about you?

Victor: The same. Wound up, in a good way.

Maggie: Maybe you'd like some coffee. Uh, well, since we're both wound up, it's probably not such a good idea.

Victor: Yes, I suppose.

Maggie: I have decaf.

Victor: I hate it.

Maggie: Right. Well... then how about you stay... for breakfast?

Victor: Now you're talkin'.

Vivian: You're wrong about Quinn. Ever since he came to Salem, everything's going my way. I've gotten everything I wanted, including the son that I thought I'd lost when Lawrence was killed. And Quinn doesn't know what it's like to have a mother dote on him and share his secrets.

Gus: You know what chores are in store for him.

Vivian: He and I are unstoppable, Gus.

Gus: I can't take any more of this.

Vivian: Gus! What'd I say?

Carly: I understand.

Quinn: What?

Carly: I'm the last person you need in your life right now. I'm the last person anybody needs. I'm just gonna grab my things, and I'll be going, okay?

Quinn: Hey, hey. You have a son who needs you, whether he knows it or not. And until you're strong enough to tell him that yourself, you can stay here.

Carly: Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

EJ: "Ill-met by moonlight, proud Titania."

Kate: I'm going to find out everything Vivian knows.

EJ: You took that gun from Brady.

Taylor: Yes, I did.

Nicole: Help. Somebody. Victor! T you?
