[Footsteps approaching]

Man: You all right?

Carly: Go away, Bo.

Man: Little girl's all strung out, just the way I like it.

Nicole: Brady, I-I want you to be happy. And I'm--I'm fine with you moving on, just not with my sister, all right? Anyone but Taylor.

Brady: Nicole--

Nicole: She's wrong for you. Can't you see that? She's rebounding from EJ. And oh, my god, if he finds out you're involved with her.

Brady: Ho--hold on. Involved--no one's involved, all right? It was--it was a--it was a drunken kiss. That's all it was. Let's get that straight. Second of all, if you think that I'm scared of Elvis...

Nicole: You don't have to be scared to know that he is crazy and evil, and he and Stefano are hell-bent on making sure that whoever attacked him pays.

Brady: I would expect nothing less.

Nicole: Are you gonna take this seriously? I just spoke to Kate earlier.

Brady: Kate--how is Kate? How's the Imelda Marcos of Salem doing, anyway?

Nicole: She said the DiMeras are gonna kill that person.

Brady: No, are you--really? The DiMeras are gonna try to kill somebody? They're such lovely people. Why--I can't believe they...

Nicole: Keep joking, Brady, okay? Because everything always works out for you. EJ's never gonna remember that you're the one who tried to snuff him out.

EJ: Look... the night that I was attacked, she was there... Melanie. She was on the pier. I mean, I had some kind of-- I don't know--it was a dream or, uh, some kind of flashback or something, but I remember that there was a woman there, and that woman was Melanie Kiriakis-Layton-Jonas, whatever her name is, okay? Taylor, she was there, all right? I'm sure of it.

Taylor: Mm, all right, it sounds--it sounds kind of strange. I mean, not--not--not for a dream, obviously, but if it was some sort of memory or--or flashback, why would Melanie have been there?

EJ: That's exactly what we have to find out, okay? I know that she played some part in this.

Chad: So I'm at the sapphire club for a meeting. Would you want to meet me down here later? Maybe we can play a few rounds of tennis.

Abigail: Yeah, sounds great. I just want to check on Carly manning first and see if she's turned up yet. You heard, right? Saw the viral picture going around?

Chad: Uh, yeah, my--my god. Um... dr. Manning's such a cool woman, too. I mean, it's just really sad that's--this is happening, you know?

Abigail: Yeah, I know. She's one of my mom's closest friends.

Chad: How's she taking it?

Abigail: She's pretty freaked, actually. It's--it's so much worse for poor Melanie.

Chad: Yeah, I can, uh--I can imagine. Well, if, uh--if you see her, tell her I'm thinking about her, okay?

Abigail: I will.

Chad: See you soon.

Abigail: Right. Oh, my god. Melanie, I'm so sorry about your mom.

Melanie: It's okay. She'll come back. She's a strong person.

Abigail: Yeah, yeah, she is, definitely. She's... I mean, she's been such a good friend to my mom, and--and I, um... I...

Melanie: You what?

Abigail: Oh, my god. Melanie... this is all my fault.

Carly: Uh, no, no, no, no.

Man: Shh!

Carly: No, no, no, no.

Man: Shh! Oh!

Carly: [Crying]

Quinn: You sick son of a bitch.

Carly: [Breathing heavily, crying]

Quinn: You okay?

Carly: I am now. [Crying]

Brady: EJ... does not remember what happened, end of story.

Nicole: That doesn't mean he won't ever remember, and if he does--

Brady: If--that's a big, big if.

Nicole: You know what? It's not an if. It's a when. He won't stop until you are six feet under.

Brady: [Scoffs]

Nicole: And I'm not gonna let that happen, which is why I'm taking control once and for all.

EJ: Little "butter wouldn't melt in my mouth" Melanie was involved in this somehow. Taylor, she was there on the night that I was attacked.

Taylor: [Inhales sharply] Okay, okay, maybe, um... she was there in your memory, right? [Chuckles] Which may be false, and even--even if it wasn't and--and she really was there... come on, EJ, there has to be some sort of explanation.

EJ: Oh, yeah, yeah, I'm sure she has dozens.

Taylor: She's a nurse... in this hospital, right? So maybe you remember hearing her voice when you were admitted.

EJ: Uh-uh, you see, that's the thing. I didn't hear. There were shoes.

Taylor: I'm sorry. What?

EJ: No, no, no, I remember... seeing these shoes. Then I heard a voice--her voice. Then... then I saw her face. Taylor, she was there on the pier. Now, I need to find out exactly what she was doing there.

Bo: It was an airtight case. That impostor was ready to confess.

D.A. Woods: And then he was killed. I know the story, commissioner. I know it backwards and forwards. We don't have to do it again. I was there.

Bo: Then you know it was a fluke.

D.A. Woods: Here's the deal. Somebody has to pay for your mistake, and that's not gonna be me.

Bo: Hmm.

Carly: [Mumbling] I don't know you.

Quinn: And we'll change that.

Carly: No. Ow!

Quinn: Look, let me help you, please.

Carly: I'm beyond help.

Quinn: Nobody's beyond help.

Carly: Why do you even care? Oh, god, you're a cop.

Quinn: No, I-I'm not a cop. I swear, okay? Just let me help you, okay? Look, consider me a friend.

Carly: Friend.

Quinn: Oh, oh, oh.

Bo: I know what this is about. It's not about my department slipping up.

D.A. Woods: It's about people being held accountable.

Bo: Right. You sandbag someone to take the blame. The pristine D.A. Gets off unscathed.

D.A. Woods: I'm glad we understand each other. Good day, commissioner.

Bo: Yeah. Good day.

Melanie: How is what happened to my mom your fault?

Abigail: Okay. I'm really sorry, Melanie, but I knew what was happening with your mom... the drugs--

Melanie: Wait a minute. You knew about what was happening?

Abigail: Yes. And I know that I should have told you, and I will never forgive myself for keeping that from you.

Melanie: Okay, so then why did you?

Abigail: Because I-I didn't want things to get worse.

Melanie: Worse? How are things supposed to get worse? I mean, at least if you told me, I would've been able to go to my mom's house--

Abigail: Okay, Melanie. Look, I am admitting that I made a terrible mistake, okay?

Melanie: Thank you so much. That's so big of you, but have you ever heard of the expression "too little, too late"?

Abigail: Yeah, I have, and you're right. Not that it's any consolation or anything, Melanie, but I was sworn to secrecy. My mom said that if I told anyone--

Melanie: I don't care what your mom said. I don't care what anybody says. When someone's life is on line, you don't keep that a secret. Does that make sense, Abigail?

Quinn: Hey, rise and shine.

Carly: You.

Quinn: Me.

Carly: Please don't tell anybody about this, please. [Groans softly]

Quinn: Mum's the word. [Sniffs] Ugh!

[Knock at door]

Quinn: [Sighs]

Vivian: Hello. I come bearing fermented gifts. Am I catching you at a bad time? I brought some bubbly.

Quinn: Yes, I see.

Vivian: Ye--to show my appreciation. Well, I think I did interrupt something.

Brady: What are you taking control of, Nicole? I don't follow you.

Nicole: I'm going to insist that you leave town with me.

Brady: What?

Nicole: You're leaving, Brady. It's the only way that you'll be safe. Look, we can get out of this rotten little town and start fresh.

Brady: Are you--are you really saying what I think you're saying right now?

Nicole: Is the idea so offensive to you?

Brady: Nicole, we have talked about this. We've talked about it a lot.

Nicole: Well, it doesn't mean that we can't keep talking about it. And then maybe you'll realize, finally, Brady, that... Brady, listen to me.

Brady: Whoa.

Nicole: You are the only guy who's ever made me feel like me, like it is okay to be me. How long are you gonna punish me?

Brady: You're punishing yourself... if you think that this is a viable solution to anything.

Nicole: Can I help it if I prefer not to see you destroyed? Is it silly for me to be concerned for your well-being? Think about it, Brady. Would getting away from here really be such a bad idea?

Taylor: Because you cannot go around throwing accusations around.... [Stammering] Because this--this nurse, Melanie--she could get in--in--

EJ: What? What, she's gonna get hurt somehow? Wow. Please.

Taylor: Okay, you know what I'm saying, EJ.

EJ: No. Yes, actually, I do know what you're saying. Tell me you feel sorry for that little girl out there. I'm the one who's in a hospital.

Taylor: Okay, and all you have is some--some--some half-- I don't know--baked memory of-- of--of what happened that night. And based on that, you're gonna--you're gonna what? You're gonna involve your father, so he can what, shake down Melanie? Because you know that is what is gonna happen.

EJ: Actually, uh... I didn't tell my father everything. Look, in spite of what you may believe, I'm not interested in causing any more people any pain. I'm not my father, Taylor. I have no intention of becoming him. I'm just trying to find out the truth. What? Hmm? Oh, you think otherwise?

Taylor: How can I not?

EJ: Taylor, I tried to change... for you. I wanted to be the man that you-- listen to me. I sound like a broken bloody record. You must be fed up of hearing it. What are you thinking?

Taylor: I was willing to overlook so much... just so I could be with you. I guess that's what people do when they're in love. They--they don't see things objectively anymore. But that changed.

EJ: [Smacks lips] Because of what?

Taylor: Do you really need me to explain this? Oh, my god. Has it slipped your mind that I lost my mother? It's sad, isn't it? It's sad. One little mistake--kidnapping someone, hiring an impostor to screw around with people's lives--it kind of mucks things up, doesn't it?

EJ: [Softly] Yeah. It's sad... sad that two people who still love each other... deeply... can't be together. Can they?

Melanie: No, don't tell me to calm down. My mom's life is on the line, and she could care less.

Abigail: How can you say that? My god, Melanie.

Melanie: Can you just leave me alone?

Dario: Melanie, just--look, it's not gonna help anything to blame Abigail. Whatever she said or didn't say, she had her reasons. C-come on, look at her. She's really hurt. She cares. No one wanted this to happen... no one.

Melanie: Fine. Sorry. I know you weren't trying to hurt my mom by not telling me. Um, I, uh... I just want to keep looking for her, okay?

Abigail: Yeah, I mean, is there anything I can do?

Melanie: No. We should probably go back to the hospital.

Dario: Yeah. Right.

Abigail: Melanie... I'm really sorry. I mean, I wish there was some way that I could make this up to you.

Melanie: Me too.

Abigail: [Sighs]

[Cell phone ringing]

Chad: Hey. I was just about to call you.

Abigail: Chad, can I see you, like, now?

Chad: Well, yeah, of course.

Abigail: Okay, I'll be at the sapphire club in ten minutes.

Chad: Okay, but, Abigail, what's, uh--what's wrong?

Abigail: I'll tell you about it later when I see you.

Chad: Okay. I'll, uh--I'll be waiting.

D.A. Woods: Chad.

Chad: What do you want?

D.A. Woods: I... owe you an apology.

Quinn: Look, it's not what it seems.

Vivian: Oh, you don't have to hide these things from me.

Quinn: No, I'm not hiding anything. The woman in the bed-- she--she passed out.

Vivian: Bravo.

Quinn: Oh, my god.

Vivian: Well, why? Can't I be proud of you?

Quinn: No, not in that way. Look, please, mom, I can't be having this conversation right now.

Vivian: Well, of course not. You probably want to get back to whatever.

Quinn: Yeah. Right. Exactly--whatever.

Vivian: Yes. Well, before I fly, I just want to ask you one thing. Is she... D.I.L.M.?

Quinn: Excuse me?

Vivian: Daughter-in-law material.

Quinn: What? Uh, mother, for pity's sake.

Vivian: Oh, stop being so coy. Just introduce me to the woman, for god's sake.

Look around

Hope: Hey.

Bo: Hey.

Hope: How'd it go with woods?

Bo: Eh... he made his intentions clear.

Hope: You think he's conspiring with internal affairs?

Bo: [Chuckles] Oh, yeah. He--he's gonna blame us to save his butt.

Hope: I'm so sorry.

Bo: Why are you sorry?

Hope: Oh, come on, do you have to ask? Because, come on, we both know that part of the D.A.'S case is going to be about you maneuvering to get me reinstated with the P.D.

Bo: Whoa, stop. Stop. Don't blame yourself on this.

Hope: Of course I bla-- I feel totally responsible for this.

Bo: No.

Hope: I never should've let you and Abe throw me back in. What was I thinking?

Bo: You know what? That was one of the best decisions I've ever made as commissioner. And that is a decision I'm going to stand by, all right?

Roman: Well, I'm glad to hear that, because--'cause you're gonna have to pay the piper on this one, little brother.

Taylor: Um, excuse me. Hi. You wouldn't happen to know if Melanie Jonas is on duty?

Maxine: No, she's not. But, um, she should be in soon, though.

Taylor: Okay, um... could you--could you do me a favor? Um, when she gets in, could you have her call me? It's extremely, extremely important.

Maxine: Sure. No problem.

Taylor: Thanks. Okay.

Dario: If--if your mom came in, there'd be a record of it on the computer, right?

Melanie: Yeah.

Maxine: Oh, Melanie. Thank goodness. Two of our nurses called in sick.

Melanie: Uh, I can't help you right now. I have some other things that I'm supposed to be dealing with.

Maxine: I'm sorry, sweetheart. I know you must be going through a lot right now, but I'd really appreciate if you could help me out.

Melanie: Okay, but...

Dario: Melanie... [Stammers]

Melanie: What?

Dario: Stay here.

Melanie: I'm not gonna stay here.

Dario: It's--it's a good distraction for you, and I'll keep looking. I'll tell--I'll let you know what comes up.

Melanie: No, but... I'm not gonna let you go do this on your own.

Dario: Trust me. It's the best thing for you. Also, if I find your mom on my own, maybe she won't run.

Melanie: Okay. Call me every five minutes.

Dario: Okay, I will.

Melanie: Okay. Every--all--every five minutes, all the time, call me.

Dario: Okay, okay.

Melanie: All right, you got me.

Maxine: Oh, you're a lifesaver, honey. Oh, the message. I'm--Mel? Honey?

Nicole: It's all about timing, isn't it? I mean, when... when we were first together, you left me for Chloe. We all know how that turned out. And then when you came back from rehab, I was with EJ.

Brady: Do we really--I don't think we need to rehash all this.

Nicole: And then when things ended with me and EJ and I finally had another chance with you, I was an idiot.

Brady: Nicole, we don't have to do this.

Nicole: I can't believe that I left you for EJ to be with Sydney--I mean, in the beginning, anyway. And--just to finally realize that... Sydney doesn't need me. I only complicate her life. I had to give up on the idea that I'd actually be important to her. So...

Brady: So here you are.

Nicole: Yes. Here I am. But not such an idiot. Now, Brady, I have learned my lesson. I really have.

Brady: [Breathes deeply]

Nicole: Come away with me... please. No strings attached.

Brady: Nicole, this isn't--

Nicole: You just think about it. Think about it.

Brady: I-I-I have things that I have to deal with here and now.

Nicole: And I will handle it.

Brady: What are you-- what are you-- "I will handle it." What the hell?

[Cell phone ringing]

Brady: [Sighs] Taylor, what's up?

Taylor: Brady, we have a problem--a big problem.

Chad: It's okay. Really, there's no need to apologize.

D.A. Woods: Some of those things I-I said--

Chad: Look, I know how you get when you're on a case, all right? Especially one you've lost.

D.A. Woods: [Scoffs] I never even had a chance to lose it. The case fell apart. But regardless of that, nothing excuses how I acted toward you, and for that, I am deeply sorry. How I've treated you these past few months and before that too, but... especially recently-- I was so angry at your mother's betrayal... humiliated. And I took that out on you... the guy who just lost his mother. Chad... I'm so sorry. Will you forgive me?

Chad: No.

Quinn: For god's sake.

Vivian: What, I can't meet your girlfriend?

Quinn: She's not my girlfriend.

Vivian: All right, all right. Calm down. Calm down.

Quinn: Look, I-it's time to go, mom.

Vivian: Oh, I know. I know, but I just--I want to make sure that I take you out for dinner and celebrate. I want to thank you.

Quinn: Yes, great--dinner.

Vivian: You know, everything you did--the support you gave me--just a revelation, really.

Quinn: I do what I can.

Vivian: And, you know, since Carly manning has disintegrated in front of our eyes, we have to make sure that none of the king's horses, none of the king's men ever put that murdering addict back together again, right?

[Carly groans softly]

Quinn: Bye-bye, ma.

Vivian: Yeah, well,

a bientôt, darling. Mwah.

Quinn: Okay, bye.

Vivian: Bye.

Quinn: Bye.

Vivian: Bye.

Quinn: And now to find out who you are.

[Door closes]

Taylor: Brady...

Brady: Yeah.

Taylor: Hey. Hey.

Brady: Tell me what happened.

Taylor: We need to do something.

Brady: Just take it easy. Tell me what's going on.

Taylor: Okay, okay, I just came from EJ's hospital room. He's starting to remember things about the night that he was attacked.

Brady: Like what? Does he know about me?

Taylor: Not yet.

Brady: Then what does he know?

Taylor: He remembers Melanie being on the pier. Well, he--

Brady: [Stammering] Did he tell Stefano?

Taylor: Not yet, but he will. There is no way he's gonna keep this to himself.

Brady: I did not want--I did not want Melanie to become involved in this.

Taylor: Okay, well, obviously, it's too late.

Maxine: Oh, you know, I forgot to give you this message. Taylor walker came by and asked you to contact her as soon as possible.

Melanie: Nicole's sister?

Maxine: Mm-hmm.

Melanie: All right, I'll call her later.

Maxine: Hey... you hang in there, kid, okay?

Melanie: Thanks. EJ's room. Great.

[Door opens]

Melanie: [Clears throat] Hi, EJ. How are we doing today?

EJ: Much better. Thank you.

Melanie: Good. You look better. Your, um--your color-- can I--I need to-- your color is coming back to you.

EJ: You know... [Clears throat] That's actually not the only thing that is coming back to me.

Melanie: Oh.

EJ: I'm beginning to, uh, remember some of the things that happened the night I was attacked on the pier.

Melanie: That's... that's good. What are you remembering?

EJ: Well, you know, it's a little bit hazy. I don't actually remember who attacked me. But I do remember that there was somebody else there.

Melanie: Hmm. Who, um--who else, uh, was there?

EJ: You were, Melanie.

Hope: How could this have happened? How could they have just fired him like that?

Roman: Well, they didn't fire him. They demoted him. You know I did everything I could, Bo. It just--we hit a wall.

Bo: Yeah, yeah, I appreciate your efforts. Thanks.

Roman: The bad news is you can't be commissioner anymore. The good news is you get your partner back, hope.

Bo: See? Silver lining.

Hope: We do get to spend more time together.

Bo: Mm-hmm.

Hope: That's true.

Bo: Less paperwork--part of the commissionership I won't miss. And my new collection of ties-- I can burn them!

Hope: [Giggles] We'll just take it off now.

Roman: Well, you see, when we think about this, if we put a little spin on this, maybe it's a win-win for all us here.

Bo: Yeah. This commissioner thing was never a good fit, and I can be back on the streets with my favorite partner.

Hope: Doing what you do best...

Bo: Mm.

Hope: Closing cases.

Bo: Doing what we do best. Uh, just out of curiosity, who's the poor sap who's gonna, um, take over this job of mine?

Roman: Well, um...

Bo: Ah! Is it you? Come on.

Roman: Well, come on, you know I turned it down last time. That's when I explained to you you should take it. But they're still looking at me. I don't know what's gonna happen. I still don't know whether I want to do it or not, okay? But maybe this time I do. Who knows? We'll see.

McCarthy: Um, I, uh, think there's something you guys need to see. Do you mind?

Bo: Yeah. Yeah.

Hope: What's up, McCarthy? Oh, my god.

Bo: Carly. What the hell?

D.A. Woods: So... you won't forgive me?

Chad: [Exhales sharply] I was your son for almost 20 years. Now, you may not have been the kind of father who... play catch or take me to the movies... but you were still my dad. And I loved you. But you blaming me for my mother's death...

D.A. Woods: Chad, I-I realize that--

Chad: And then basically throw me out of your life as soon as you found out about her affair with Stefano--I mean, I'm supposed to just forgive you for that?

D.A. Woods: No, of course not, not right away. I thought once you had a chance to...

Chad: To what?

D.A. Woods: I don't know. I thought maybe we could see each other from time to time, have dinner, maybe play golf.

Chad: [Scoffs] That's not gonna happen.

D.A. Woods: I see. You've moved on, then, with your... your new family.

Chad: Yeah, I've moved on... because you weren't there. The DiMeras were. Stefano, his wife, the whole damn family... they made me feel like I belonged. You never did that... even before mom died.

D.A. Woods: Your mother was always very proud of you. And I know she'd want you to be happy and... feel loved. I want that too. That's all that matters.

Taylor: We--we have to find Melanie. We have--we have to find her. We--we have to warn her.

Brady: She wouldn't be at work. I know that.

Taylor: Why? Bec--because of that picture of her mom?

Brady: Mm-hmm. I'm gonna give Dario a call. Maybe he'll know where she is. [Sighs] Dario, hi, it's, uh--it's Brady black. Listen, I need you to call me as soon as you can. It's important.

Taylor: What a mess.

Brady: It's not a mess. We just have to figure out a way to protect Melanie.

Taylor: Okay, and--and who's gonna protect you, hmm? Who's gonna protect you once EJ finds out what you did?

[Door closes]

Nicole: Oh, you don't have to worry about that. I've got it all under control. Brady and I are leaving town.

Melanie: That's absurd, EJ. I was here at the hospital working when they brought you in. Maybe that's what you're remembering. EJ, can you hear me? It's gonna be okay. I'm gonna take care of you, okay?

EJ: Melanie, I know it wasn't you who bludgeoned me. You were just there cleaning up somebody's mess... right? Covering up a crime. You know, I have a lot of enemies, but there is one... more than most, who is prone to erratic behavior. You know who I'm talking about... don't you?

Abigail: I am so proud of you, Chad.

Chad: Mm. There's nothing to be proud of.

Abigail: Yeah, there is. You were honest. You stood up to him. I know how hard that must've been for you.

Chad: Yeah, well, uh, hopefully that'll be the last time I'll ever have to explain anything to that guy. Um... what--what's--what's up with you? A-a-are you okay? You sounded upset on the phone. Is--is everything all right?

Abigail: Yeah, it's just-- it's about Melanie and Carly.

Chad: Yeah.

Abigail: Melanie blames me for what happened to her mom, and if I'm being honest with myself, I-I blame me too. It's...

Chad: Whoa, whoa. Wait--wait a minute. How--how does that make any sense? [Chuckles]

Abigail: Um... Chad, I knew about Carly's drug problem. I told my mom, and she said that I had to keep it quiet, so I did, but...

Chad: Okay.

Abigail: I don't know. I mean, looking back on it, I just--I should've said something, you know? I should've told Melanie and-- I mean, it's her mom. I-I should've said something.

Chad: Hey, it's--it's--it's okay, all right? Honestly, there's no way that you could've predicted anything like that was gonna happen.

Abigail: Okay, but still, I mean, when drugs are involved, y-you don't keep secrets. It was horrible and... and irresponsible. And I-I just--I should've known better.

Chad: Look, Abigail, you were doing what you thought was right at the time, okay? There's--there's no reason you should be beating yourself up over this, okay?

Abigail: [Softly] Yeah. Yeah, it's--it's not about me anyway, you know? I mean, god, poor Carly... she's in a lot of trouble.

Chad: Yeah, I mean, that's-- that's really sad.

Abigail: All I can do is just pray that wherever she is that she's in good hands.

Carly: [Inhales deeply] Where am I?

Quinn: You're safe. I just need to find out who you are so I can help.

Brady: I never said I was going out of town with you.

Nicole: But--

Brady: There's no buts about it, okay? You got very carried away. It's not gonna happen. If there's any chance that EJ knows that Melanie was on that pier, I'm staying in town. I'm protecting her. And that's my plan.

EJ: Whoever helped must've been a good friend of yours, yes. Maybe somebody you'd helped before, somebody you would go the extra mile for.

Melanie: Well, EJ, I'm sorry. I have no idea what you're talking about.

EJ: Cut the crap, Melanie. We both know who we're talking about. It was Brady black... wasn't it? Wasn't it?

Bo: She's in trouble, big trouble.

Nicole: And in EJ's world, "go after" is a euphemism for "kill."

Melanie: [Shouts]

Dario: Let her go!
