Carly: If anyone finds out, I'm gonna lose my license. You're gonna quit cold turkey, and you're gonna do it alone. [Sighs] Hi. Hey, just heading to the nurses' station.
Daniel: No. No, Carly. I need to talk to you.
Maggie: Okay, there we go.
[Knock on door]
Maggie: Just a second! Oh, Chloe, get in here. You don't have to knock.
Chloe: Hi. I hope this isn't a bad time. I was giving a voice lesson down the block, and I just wanted to see if you had time for a cup of tea.
Maggie: Mm, a voice lesson. So your flyers are paying off, huh?
Chloe: Yeah, I only have a couple students, but it's a start.
Maggie: Okay, well, when your students start talking about how good you are, you're gonna be swamped. It's nice to see you smile.
Chloe: Yeah... it's not only because of the students. I met a really great guy.
Quinn: I don't know why DiMera wanted to sell. He had a freakin' monopoly here on the drug trade in Salem. Yeah, he was making money hand over fist. Now I'll be, and I'll make even more once I expand. Yeah, personnel's always a problem, but I got that worked out, too. I'm gonna make a certain someone an offer they won't be able to refuse.
Rafe: I can't believe you couldn't tell the difference.
Sami: Oh, don't say that.
Rafe #2: It's like not being able to tell the difference between hamburger and prime rib.
Rafe #2: Yeah.
Sami: Oh, my God, you're him.
Rafe #2: That's right. I'm him.
Sami: No, get off me!
Rafe #2: I'll take you where you've never been before, baby.
Sami: No, get off!
Rafe #2: You're gonna like it.
Sami: Stop it! Stop, stop! [Crying] Get off me! Get off! Stop it!
Rafe: Sami, Sami, Sami. Wake up, wake up, wake up. It was just a dream.
Sami: [Breathing heavily]
Rafe: It's okay, babe.
EJ: Taylor, listen, please, you have to call me. I have to talk to you. You can't just leave me a message saying good-bye and then drop off the planet. Please, just call me.
Stefano: Well... [Chuckles] Isn't this comforting? We're dealing with a man who could take us down, and you're groveling on the telephone with your little girlfriend.
EJ: Just can it, all right? I'm not in the mood.
Stefano: I don't give a damn about your mood. This man is a ticking bomb. And the more time he spends with Samantha, the more time she has to figure it out. He has to be eliminated.
EJ: Father, he just needs to be persuaded to leave town.
Stefano: Elvis, I know that you want your little bookkeeper to think of you as Sir Galahad, all right? But if we do not take this guy out, she is gonna be visiting you in jail carrying little bags of food, all right? And Samantha's gonna have your children as much as she wants them--forever!
Chloe: You don't seem very happy for me.
Maggie: Chloe, when you have a friend, someone you care about and they've been in nine or ten serious car wrecks, and they come to you all happy and excited because they just bought a brand-new sports car... how would you react?
Chloe: Maggie, he's really nice. And he makes me feel good about myself.
Maggie: Hmm. Well, maybe you should figure out a way to feel good about yourself on your own. Smell that? [Inhales deeply]
Chloe: What is it?
Maggie: Mmm, it's kasseri. I put it in the casserole that I made. Kasseri cheese makes it a Greek casserole. I hate kasseri.
Maggie: Mm. When a woman makes a casserole that she can't stand to please a man she's utterly confused about, she is in no position to give advice on men or romance.
Chloe: I see.
Chloe: Why are you confused about Victor? You like him, right?
Maggie: Not when he's horrible to you.
Chloe: [Sighs] Well, he's horrible to pretty much everybody except you. And don't worry about me. I really, really want you to be happy.
Maggie: Right back at you, Chloe.
[Knock on door]
Maggie: Come in!
Jennifer: Aunt Maggie, I smell it outside. Hey.
Jennifer: I'm sorry. Uh, did I interrupt something?
Sami: Just don't call me that, okay? Please don't ever call me "babe."
Rafe: Okay. I won't. Never. That guy's gone. He's gone, you'll never have to deal with him again, honey.
Sami: That dream was just-- it was so real and scary.
Rafe: I know. Hey, it's over now. It's over.
Sami: Is it?
EJ: Well, thank you, Father. I really had no idea of the ramifications of anybody finding out that, uh, you had created this substitute Rafe and tried to pawn him off as the real one. Oh, or that the real Rafe died when you imprisoned him and, you know, erased his memory. I didn't realize there would be a problem if anybody or Samantha found out about it. I mean, I just--I just thought the people, you know, the authorities would just shrug the whole thing off.
Stefano: Hmm. Sarcasm does not work. And now that your back is up against the wall, I see your real colors. All of a sudden, it's all my doing.
EJ: It was all your idea!
Stefano: Ah, and you loved every minute of it!
Stefano: Look, Elvis, I don't want this to come between us.
EJ: Me neither.
Stefano: So I'll give you a choice. Either we eliminate the faux Hernandez, or I will make sure that Taylor knows all about this.
Sami: I just hate feeling like he still has control over my life. [Sighs]
Rafe: He doesn't.
Sami: I know, but it feels like he does.
Rafe: You listen to me. I'm gonna get EJ out of your life and out of your kids' lives for good.
[Cell phone ringing]
Sami: It's EJ.
Rafe: Want me to talk to him?
Sami: No, no, I can do this. Hello?
EJ: Samantha, it's me. Look, I was just wondering if I could bring the children over. I'll be about 20 minutes or so.
Sami: Yeah, we're here. Okay... show time.
Daniel: I found out something this morning that really disturbed me about you.
Daniel: Well, let me just start this way. Well, let me give you these. They're not Cuban, but they're very, very good.
Carly: Why are you giving me cigars?
Daniel: I bought them for Hal Brown. He was gonna cover for me last night. I find out this morning that you did. So you just light up.
Carly: No, he was running late. I just hung out for a couple of hours--that's it.
Daniel: Okay, well, then just split them with him, okay? You know, Carly, I would have had you cover for me, but God knows you're working hard enough already, so...
Carly: Did you and Jennifer have fun?
Daniel: Well, let me just say this--we ended up at Victor's. Yeah, can I show a lady a good time or what?
Carly: You're quite the player.
Daniel: [Chuckles] Yeah. Yeah, you know, the other thing is, um, did you get an email from Melanie about a family dinner tonight?
Carly: Yeah, that sounds great.
Daniel: Yeah, I was gonna ask you if I could move that to lunch instead, 'cause Jennifer and I rescheduled for tonight.
Carly: Yeah, lunch is fine.
Daniel: Oh, that's great. All right, I'll text her right now, so...
Daniel: I'll see you later, then, okay?
Daniel: Oh, I, uh--Jennifer told me about your boarding-school days. So until lunch, auf wiedersehen, Fraulein von Leuschner.
Carly: Okay, it doesn't matter that he knows. Everything is gonna be okay. Just stop taking the damn pills, and everything will be fine. [Sighs]
Maggie: Uh, come in.
Jennifer: You know what? I-I should have called first. [Cell phone ringing] Sorry.
Maggie: Will you stop it? I was just about to make some more tea. You can stay here and have some tea with me.
Quinn: So how'd the lesson go?
Chloe: Oh, it was great.
Quinn: You busy? Why don't you come down to the pier and, uh, tell me all about it?
Chloe: Uh, that's a great idea. I'll be right there. Maggie...
Chloe: I'm gonna have to pass on the cookies, but thank you for the tea.
Maggie: Was that your young man on the phone?
Chloe: He's a friend, but don't worry about me. Jennifer, it's nice seeing you again.
Jennifer: You too, Chloe.
Jennifer: She's--she's so beautiful.
Maggie: Yes, she is.
Maggie: But that's, uh-- I think that's the root of her problems.
Jennifer: Hey, uh, you'll never guess where I was last night.
Maggie: You said you were going out with Daniel.
Jennifer: Yes, but we ended up at Victor's. He was complaining of an ulcer. It ended up being acid reflux. But he was miserable. I mean, it was kind of sad to see, Aunt Maggie.
Jennifer: I mean, I would say that he was actually pining away. I was feeling sorry for Victor Kiriakis.
Maggie: Enough with the performance, okay? That smell--it's kasseri.
Jennifer: You hate kasseri.
Maggie: Victor loves it.
Maggie: Damn that man. He makes me so stupid. [Sighs]
Chad: Here's the report you wanted me to fact-check.
Stefano: Great. Put it on the desk. So... [Clears throat] Since you had to fact-check it, you had to read it. What did you think of the report?
Stefano: What did you think of the report?
Chad: Well, the facts were factual, and the conclusions drawn were very imaginative.
Stefano: You know, that report was written by three Ivy League MBAs.
Chad: And they wrote down exactly what you dictated to them. And DiMera Enterprises comes off smelling like a flower... a very legal flower, of course.
Stefano: You have an affinity for this business.
Chad: Well, that's good to know. Well, I'll, uh--I'll see you.
Stefano: Chad, I'm, uh... I'm sorry for the mix-up yesterday.
Chad: Ah, more fiction. See, that mix-up was you trying to control my life, and, uh... that's just not gonna happen.
Sami: Hey, my babies! Come here! Hug me! Oh!
Johnny: I'm not a baby.
Sami: I know you're not. But you're always gonna be my baby. You both smell like sunshine. Come in. Come in.
Johnny: Where's Rafe?
Sami: He, um--he's not here right now, sweetheart. But you know what I was thinking? Why don't you take your backpack into your room, put it down on your bed, and there's a little surprise there waiting for both of you.
Johnny: Let's go.
Sami: Okay, I'll be right there.
EJ: Rafe's not here?
Sami: Why is that any of your business?
Quinn: Ah, this is great. I'm so glad you had some time for me.
Chloe: Yeah, well, I've got a lot of time these days. I only have two students.
Quinn: Those are two lucky students. Man, if I had a teacher that looked like you, I'd sing, too.
Chloe: Do you sing at all?
Quinn: In the shower. You want to hear me?
Chloe: You're terrible.
Quinn: What I am is fun. And, Chloe... fun is what you need.
Abigail: Good morning.
Carly: Abigail, hi. I didn't see you.
Abigail: I just, uh--I just wanted to ask how you were doing.
Carly: Fine, honey. I'm fine.
Abigail: Maybe--you know, I know it should probably be someone older or something, but maybe it's a good thing that I know so that you can have someone to talk to, you know, about... [Whispering] About being sick.
Carly: The reason that the prescription is under von Leuschner is because... I'm ill. I'm quite ill, actually.
Abigail: I'm--I'm so sorry.
Carly: Oh, I-I...
Abigail: Listen, you don't have to talk about it. And, uh, I won't bring it up again if you don't want me to.
Carly: Maybe that would be best.
Abigail: Okay. Like they say in the movies, your secret's safe with me.
Jennifer: Secret? What secret?
Stefano: You know... [Chuckles] I don't mind when you push back, because after all, I really don't want you under my thumb.
Chad: Whoa, whoa, time-out. Let's just--let's just get one thing clear, okay? I don't push back to get your approval. I don't need or want it.
Stefano: You know what I fear? That because Katherine and I are not happy with your association with Abigail, you're gonna find her more attractive.
Chad: Wow. And I thought I liked her. Turns out it's just adolescent rebellion. I can't wait until I'm mature and have meaningful relationships like you and EJ have.
Stefano: [Chuckles] So you don't think my relationship with Katherine is mature?
Chad: Oh, no. Plotting to keep me from seeing Abigail--that's the definition of maturity.
Stefano: Let me ask a favor, all right? If I push you too hard, or at least if you think I am pushing you too hard, and you don't feel as if you can take it and you want to leave or something like that... give me a heads-up, all right? Because, honestly... I don't want to lose you.
Chad: Father, come on. I'm not really gonna leave. I find you all way too fascinating. I'm not bored... yet.
Stefano: [Chuckles] Ahh. No... there's nothing boring about this place. Ask Elvis.
EJ: Okay, I'm sorry. I didn't realize the topic was off limits.
Sami: Really? Maybe you can understand why I'm not inclined to share with you about my personal--
EJ: Whoa, whoa, okay, Samantha, maybe you can understand, all right, that my children spend a lot of time here, okay? And your personal life directly affects them. This rapprochement with your fella is a little bit out of the blue, no? I mean, the last you and I talked about it, you wanted nothing more to do with him.
Sami: I was mad. But then I realized I love him, no matter what.
EJ: You told me that he had a complete disregard for you and the children.
Sami: Are you serious? You are gonna stand there and talk to me about disregard for our children after what you did?
EJ: What? After what I did? What are you talking about?
Victor: That'll be all, Henderson.
Henderson: Yes, sir.
Victor: Well, what's that? It smells wonderful.
Maggie: It's a casserole I made for you. And if you gloat one teeny little bit, I'm gonna drop it on your foot.
Victor: I do not gloat. I am not like that.
Maggie: So, here.
Victor: Ooh, heavy. Almost feels like it might be a casserole for two.
Maggie: It's all for you. I hate it.
Victor: So you made it for me? That's not gloating. That's admiration.
Victor: Well, I've been racking my brain here, trying to come up with some lame reason to come see you.
Maggie: An imaginative guy like you couldn't come up with something?
Victor: Well, as a matter of fact, I did. I was out the door more than once. Then I realized that it just wouldn't be fair to you.
Carly: I was just telling Abigail about, uh, doctor-patient confidentiality, that it really applies to everyone who works here.
Abigail: Right. Makes sense, doesn't it? Well, that's my break. So, uh, see you guys.
Jennifer: Did she do something wrong? Tell me. You seem worried about her.
Carly: No, she's fine. She's great. She's a really kind person, actually. You did good.
Jennifer: Thank you for complimenting me on my children. Let's go to lunch and talk some more.
Carly: I forgot our date.
Carly: I'm supposed to have lunch with Daniel and Melanie. I'm sorry.
Jennifer: You know what? That's okay. Can we maybe have coffee? I really need to talk to you about something.
Carly: Absolutely. Let me just finish this chart, and I'll be right with you.
Jennifer: Okay, chart away. Well, if it isn't Minnesota Fats.
Daniel: That would be fast Eddie to you.
Daniel: This is one way to start my day.
Jennifer: Yeah, this is good.
Quinn: Have you ever made a mistake?
Chloe: Oh, never. I've led a completely mistake-free life.
Quinn: [Chuckles] I was so lucky to meet you. And right from the get-go, I screwed it up. And what I would like now... is a major do-over. I'd like a chance to undo that first impression.
Chloe: Well, um, I don't think I exactly put my best foot forward either.
Quinn: How about this? How about an actual date, and I get the chance to treat you like the classy lady you really are?
EJ: Whoa, stop, all right? Just tell me. I don't understand, what exactly do you mean by that?
Sami: Oh, God, you know exactly what you--
Rafe: Easy, Sami. Easy.
Sami: I am not gonna rehash the past with you, EJ, all right? It is water under the bridge. The kids are back. They're safe. It's fine. But that... is why Rafe left. You were concerned about his behavior. I was too. He left because he didn't like the man he had become. He didn't like that he wasn't in control anymore.
Sami: Yes. So he told me that he went and got help. He's taking new medication. And it has changed him. He has-- he's the old Rafe again. He's the man I fell in love with.
EJ: He told you this, did he?
Sami: Because it's the truth.
EJ: Right, because he said so.
Sami: Well, I can also tell. I mean, I can see the way he is around me.
EJ: I see. So you're telling me that this translates into his being the old Rafe around the kids, hmm? You do remember what he was like before with Johnny and Allie?
Sami: I would never do anything to jeopardize my children.
EJ: No. No, you wouldn't. No, you would not.
Maggie: Did I not tell you just yesterday that I felt like I was the one being unfair?
Victor: That was a distortion, I'm afraid.
Maggie: What? How--how was it--
Victor: Maggie, you're too kind. It prevents you from seeing things clearly, from saying what you really mean.
Maggie: [Scoffs] So now you doubt my sincerity, do you?
Victor: I don't doubt your sincerity. What I doubt is my ability to... live up to what you think you see in me.
Maggie: So we're back to that. You think you don't deserve me.
Victor: No, I know I don't. So I think the best thing to do is make a nice, clean break. It's less painful that way. Good-bye, Maggie.
Maggie: What? Wait! I-I have something to say! And I think that casserole earns me at least five minutes of your precious time.
Victor: Damn it, Maggie, don't make this hard. I'm trying to do the right thing here.
Maggie: Well, you never have before, so why start now? And don't swear at me.
Victor: I'm sorry.
Maggie: [Sighs] This is--and, Victor, I use the word advisedly--dumb.
Victor: No, it's not.
Maggie: It is.
Victor: Maggie, you could end up getting hurt. And then it would be my fault, and then I'd feel guilty. And I don't like to feel guilty!
Maggie: Oh, so here we go. It's back to you again.
Victor: No, it's not. Look, you had all those years with a man who deserved your trust, your commitment. But I knew Mickey. And I, madam, am no Mickey Horton.
Jennifer: Do you remember boarding school?
Carly: You've been thinking a lot about that, haven't you?
Carly: Daniel told me that you told him you knew about my life as Katerina.
Jennifer: Oh, yeah, right. I was just talking to him about how long we've really known each other, and, uh...
Carly: And, uh...?
Jennifer: And just, you know, it's so great to have a friend that knew you when you were so stupid and dorky, you know?
Carly: Um, no, you were gorgeous.
Jennifer: I didn't feel that way. I always felt completely insecure and outclassed.
Carly: What's wrong?
Jennifer: Um... I mean, you--you can tell a friend feelings that you have that you don't want to have, right?
Jennifer: I saw a picture of Rebecca. And--and I saw Chloe this morning. Okay, Daniel, he likes these women that are, like, va-va-voom, okay? And I am so not that.
Carly: Honey, look, in boarding school, you were not stupid and dorky. But you definitely are now.
Jennifer: Thanks. That helps.
Carly: Listen to me. I saw his face when he saw you. And I know that man. He wasn't just smiling at you. He was smiling with his eyes. He was that happy to see "beautiful in her own way," va-va-voom... you.
Chad: So the whole thing is kind of like a game. I mean, I believe him when he says he doesn't want to run my life, but...
Abigail: Hmm, really? 'Cause the guy seems pretty controlling to me.
Chad: [Scoffs] You know, every time I see you, I always say to myself, "don't talk about Stefano." And then I do.
Abigail: Yeah, I, uh--I keep saying, "keep your mouth shut when he talks about Stefano." You might have noticed. But I don't.
Chad: [Chuckles] Can I tell you something?
Chad: Not to make you mad or upset, but just so you know.
Chad: See, you never met the guy I thought was my father. But until this year, my whole life--I was the screw-up son of a brilliant lawyer. And I was a constant disappointment. We never had conversations. He gave lectures. And Stefano, well... Stefano asks me what I think. And he listens. He gives me books to read. And then later, he asks me about them. He makes me feel smart. And, yeah, I know he could be playing me. But he sure as hell picked the right way to do it.
Sami: Well, I, for one, would much rather be rolling around on the floor with my children than getting the third degree from you.
EJ: Now, wait, Samantha. I'm not giving you the third degree.
Sami: Actually, you are giving me the third degree.
EJ: No, I'm sorry. I think I'm justifiably concerned. You're taking this man back into your life is nothing less than a sea change, and yet you seem... you seem surprisingly casual about it--glib even.
Sami: Well, let me be clear. It was not a casual decision, just a simple one. I love him. I will always love him. And no one can ever make me change my mind. Did you miss it? Or are you intentionally being obtuse? I gave you a hint to get out.
EJ: Okay. Look, um... can--do you mind if I talk to him, just for a second?
EJ: Yes, Rafe. I'm sorry, Samantha. Look, if he's going to be spending time with my children, I think I have the right to evaluate this, uh... transformation for myself, no?
Sami: As I told Johnny, he's not here, so...
EJ: Sure. Well, um... he may be back in your life, but I'm fairly sure he's not back in the police department. So when you see him, just have him give me a call. And if you don't, my lawyer will call you. [Sighs] Something's off. Something's off.
Sami: [Sighs] Man, that was challenging. I mean, it was like walking on a tightrope. I had to make sure that he believes that I believe that, you know, you're back.
Rafe: I was listening.
Rafe: You did good. No, I don't think that he's suspicious of you at all. I mean, he's very suspicious of me--well, who he thinks that I am, but... yeah, I mean, that's good. It's great.
Sami: I'm just worried about you. I mean, if he thinks that you-- I mean, not you, but the creature is a problem, we know how the DiMeras handle their problems.
Johnny: Hey, Rafe!
Rafe: Hey, Johnny! My main man! What's up, bud? Huh? Talk to me. Tell me your story, huh?
Johnny: So you want a beer?
Rafe: A beer? Uh, it's still morning, pal.
Johnny: You said it was always 5:00 somewhere.
Rafe: [Chuckles] I did? Yeah, well, of course I did. But, uh... I was kidding about that.
Johnny: No, you weren't. Know what? You're different.
Chloe: I've been thinking.
Chloe: Look, I'm trying to get my act together, and you're a pretty vivid reminder of how I fell into bed with someone that I don't even know.
Quinn: Okay, so we put the cart before the horse. But we can fix that. Tonight is just about getting to know each other.
[Cell phone ringing]
Quinn: Oh, sorry. I've got to take this.
Chloe: No problem.
Quinn: Yeah. Look, I already told you to accept the shipment and get it on the street A.S.A.P. Must I remind you, mate... you don't want to disappoint me.
Maggie: I get it now. You're scared for yourself.
Maggie: I mean, you--you say you don't want me to get hurt, but that's not it. You're scared that you're gonna get hurt.
Victor: That's ridiculous.
Maggie: I'm gonna ask you a favor. Don't invoke Mickey's name like he's become some kind of a saint. I loved that man more than life itself, but he was just a man. He was funny. He was passionate. And he was flawed, just like you could be if--
Maggie: If you manned up. So when you want to have some fun, you call me. Bye-bye.
Victor: Why, you little...
Victor: I am not scared!
Chad: I shouldn't have said that.
Abigail: You know, when I was little, I knew that I had... the most fun father in the whole world. He would-- he would play games with us whenever we wanted, and--and he would read to JJ and me and answer any and all of our questions.
Abigail: When I was in high school, I... I wrote this paper on the Napoleonic Code and got an "A" on it. I showed it to him. You know, I thought he'd be proud 'cause Deveraux and French History. He said, "good work," and kept watching TV. My mom was-- my mom was really proud, and she, uh--she asked me questions about it. But when I answered them, I noticed that he kind of just drifted away from the room. I think that... I stopped being interesting to him when I stopped being a little girl. So I get what you're saying about Stefano. I really get it.
Rafe: So, yeah, you're right. I was doing some stuff that I shouldn't have been doing. But I'm not gonna be like that anymore, okay? I promise. Never again.
Johnny: No more ice cream?
Rafe: Well, sometimes... just not all the time, okay? We'll still have it every once in a while. Hey, baby girl. Oh, come here. Come sit with us. Come here, come here, come here. Oh, my gosh, I missed you. I missed you.
Johnny: Daddy said you were going away and not coming back.
Rafe: Oh, he did, did he? Well, guess what. I hate to break it to you, but daddy was wrong. I am back, and I am never leaving again... never, ever, ever, ever, ever!
Stefano: [Muttering softly] Ah, did you talk to him?
EJ: He wasn't there. I talked to Samantha. I tried to get her to tell me what's going on, but...
Stefano: And did she?
EJ: Honestly, I don't know.
Carly: Oh, God, that's all I need. Right, Manning, just make your life more complicated than it already is. That's perfect.
Jennifer: [Scoffs] Come on, Jennifer. Really, who do you think you're kidding?
Abigail: You know what I think? I think that we spend way too much time talking about our families.
Chad: I think maybe you're right.
Abigail: Yeah. So... what do you want to talk about?
Chad: Well, there is something I've been thinking about. But it doesn't really have anything to do with talking.
Abigail: Oh, yeah?
Abigail: What's that?
EJ: So according to Samantha, she believes that Rafe is a completely changed man. He's turned over a new leaf. I quote- she said, "he is the man I fell in love with."
Stefano: Hmm. We both know that's not true. But what we do not know is why's that idiot came back. I mean, he emptied the entire account. He's a millionaire, and he comes back to Salem?
EJ: Well, she has no money. There's nothing really to be gained. He has a lot to lose. So why does he come back?
Stefano: I know why.
On the next “Days of Our Lives...”
Dario: What the hell are you doing here?
EJ: This situation, Father, is a lot more dangerous than we thought.
Nicole: Get out of town now.
