Carly: [Sighs] What am I doing? Who am I kidding? I know exactly what I'm doing. Mm.
Jennifer: Oh, hey. I'm so sorry I'm late.
Carly: That's okay. Listen, I only have time for coffee, because I have to go and work early to cover for someone.
Jennifer: Oh, that's no problem. I don't have a lot of time either. Oh, darn it. My phone just died.
Jennifer: Yeah, I need to call the office.
Carly: What, you have a P.R. Emergency?
Jennifer: Shoot. Yes. These drugs keep coming up missing at the hospital. It is a nightmare. Can I use your phone, please?
Carly: Um, yeah. Sure.
Jennifer: Your passport? What in the world? Are you thinking about leaving the country?
Quinn: You were... mmm. I believe the word is "incredible."
Chloe: You know, I do have to admit, it feels pretty good to be close to someone again, even if it's someone I know nothing about.
Quinn: Well, isn't that part of the fun... two strangers, no strings?
Chloe: I don't even know what you do for a living, Quinn. Oh, wait, you said something about being a traveling salesman, right?
EJ: So you take the business, and you never contact me again.
Quinn: Deal. Yeah, sort of. How boring is that?
Chloe: I don't know.
Quinn: I do. It's way more boring than what you are.
Chloe: Oh, really? You find me interesting?
Quinn: Oh, hon... can't you tell how interested I am?
Chloe: So when's your next trip?
Quinn: Oh, um...
Chloe: For work.
Quinn: Yeah. Oh, actually I'm doing most of my transactions here now in Salem. So I'll be around a lot more... if that's okay with you.
Chloe: Yeah. It's better than being alone.
Stefano: Uh-huh. Shredding, are we?
EJ: We, uh--we transferred over the drug business. The cash has been transferred offshore. There's no accounting trace. I thought it would be a good idea to get rid of any remaining evidence.
Stefano: Hmm. Is that why you sounded so serious on your message?
EJ: I have made a decision.
Stefano: What now?
EJ: I'm going to pull out of all but the legitimate side of the family business.
Stefano: [Chuckles] What next, huh? Is Taylor gonna have you singing in the Methodist church choir?
EJ: I'm being serious.
Taylor: So you're not selling drugs anymore?
EJ: I have not been involved in one illegal business activity with my family since that day. I'm done.
Taylor: God, what am I gonna do?
Nicole: I have a few suggestions.
Rafe 2: What the hell's that?
Sami: I picked it up by accident when I left you. Give me a break. It's the money, right? It's what the DiMeras paid you for ruining my life. This is how you're gonna access it.
Rafe 2: Yeah. Whatever. [Chuckles] As soon as I realized that I lost it, I made a few calls, canceled it. You got nothing. [Laughs]
Sami: I might cry. Oh, I think he's foiled us. [Cries mockingly]
Rafe: Yeah, 'cause Javier here always tells the truth. Do you mind running an errand for me?
Sami: Of course. I'd do anything for you. I'm on it. Oh, uh, but while I'm gone, don't do anything I wouldn't do.
Rafe: Look, either the cops are gonna put you away, or Stefano's gonna put a hit out on you for embarrassing him, so, uh... either way, buddy, you're screwed... unless, of course, uh, we work out some sort of deal. So why don't you wise up and, uh, start thinking my way?
Lexie: Hey. If it isn't my newest half brother. How's it going?
Chad: Okay. Okay. Um...
Lexie: Are you here to visit a patient?
Chad: No, actually, I'm-- you know, I'm afraid this is gonna sound really lame. Uh, you know how in old movies when, um--guys will show up with flowers when they're hoping the girl will, you know...
Abigail: What? When they're hoping a girl will what?
Stefano: What's so serious?
EJ: After what happened with troy? Father, I would have thought you would be as relieved as I am to be out of the bloody drugs business.
Stefano: The deal is done. The ties have been severed. Why do you insist on being a boy scout?
EJ: The ties are not severed.
Stefano: What... what happened?
EJ: There is still a chance that I could be implicated.
Stefano: [Groans] When?
EJ: I don't know when. The only thing that I know is that troy... left somewhat of a trail.
Stefano: Oh, you should have fired him.
EJ: Look, father, I'm trying to put out as many of these little fires as I possibly can, all right? But in the meantime I need to stay on the right side of the law, you understand? So I'm gonna quietly resign my position within our organization... okay? I can still stay on as your counsel. I can represent you. We can take advantage--
Stefano: Oh, come on. Stop talking like a lawyer, will you, please? There's more to this. And I want it all, now.
Nicole: So are you all packed up and ready to hit the road?
Taylor: God, you know, what you're doing is disgusting.
Nicole: Excuse me?
Taylor: Okay, let's stop with the games, okay, Nicole? No more lies.
Nicole: I-I don't know what you're talking about.
Taylor: You're just up to your old tricks, which include ruining people's lives and conniving and scheming to get whatever the hell it is you want.
Nicole: What in god's name--
Taylor: I know what you did. I know what you did to EJ. You--you blackmailed him so you can stay in an empty marriage.
Rafe 2: That was cute. You sending Sami on an errand. Yeah, I figure she'll take orders from you for, like, a day, day and a half, then it'll be back to business as usual. Yeah, she'll be towing your manhood around in that cheap, little plastic purse she carries around.
Rafe: I'm waiting.
Rafe 2: For what?
Rafe: For you to give me something that I can use.
Rafe 2: Oh. Come on, g-man. Why don't you make your own case there? Oh, right... 'cause you can't, 'cause, uh, you don't know me from nothing, do you? Well, except, of course, from my uncanny resemblance to you, huh, handsome?
Rafe: [Chuckles] Come on. Come on, for the last year, probably more, you and EJ and Stefano--you guys have been tight as six in a bed. You telling me no one saw that?
Rafe 2: They thought I was you. Listen, bud, all I am is a con man who was out to swindle Sami. That is, till I realized I'd rather be broke than to have to crawl back in the sack and hit that one more time.
Rafe: You're gonna pay for what you did to my family.
Rafe 2: [Chuckles] Oh. Am I supposed to be scared of you, pal?
Rafe: Yeah. Yeah, unless you don't have a brain in your head, you should be.
Chad: I just thought, um... here, t-these are for you.
Abigail: They are?
Abigail: What for?
Lexie: If you'll, uh, excuse me, I have a patient to see.
Chad: Uh, you know, I thought that maybe you could, you know, p-put 'em on your desk if-- if you have a desk. I don't... you know.
Abigail: Why are you doing this? I was a total bitch to you last night.
Chad: I wouldn't say "total." I just--I feel bad about walking out on you when my father called, so...
Abigail: You're--you're being really sweet, and I appreciate it--I do. Uh, but, you know, I've been thinking about it, and--and you and me--I just... I don't think it's gonna work.
Quinn: You--you seem upset.
Chloe: I-I am, with myself.
Chloe: Well, you said you were sticking around, and I started to sound clingy. And I just--I don't want to be like that anymore.
Quinn: Chloe, I don't know what you're talking about. All you said was that you don't want to be alone. Who does?
Chloe: So, what, you want to see each other, like, date?
Quinn: Sounds good. The more I see of you, the better.
Nicole: So who told you--EJ?
Taylor: W-w-what does it matter who told me? It's the truth.
Nicole: So you're worried about EJ now? Interesting. Well, unfortunately, my marriage is none of your business. And with all the hospitality that I've shown you, I'll thank you to keep your opinion to yourself.
Taylor: Okay, well, I was just standing here, and you started all this.
Nicole: Whoa. I disagree. My marriage to EJ was good. My life was happy, and then you came to town.
Taylor: I only stayed because of mom and because you begged me.
Nicole: And what's your excuse with Eric Brady?
Taylor: Eric? What--why are you bringing him up? We are just friends.
Nicole: Yeah. You have a way of getting friendly with every man that I have been with. Is that how you know about my empty marriage, because you're such good friends with EJ?
Rafe: That was fast.
Sami: Yeah, well, I had a guy at the, uh, computer shop download everything for me.
Rafe 2: I hate to break it to you, but I just de-friended you both.
Rafe: That's okay. You can share a cell with your new friends, EJ and Stefano, 'cause you're gonna be with them a long, long time.
Carly: I was cleaning out my drawers last night, and I came upon that, and I thought Melanie would get a kick out of it, you know, seeing that old picture of me.
Jennifer: I know. It's great. Have you ever told Melanie what we were like in boarding school?
Carly: Not yet.
Jennifer: Wow. I was a mess back then.
Carly: You pulled yourself together.
Jennifer: Yeah. I met Jack. That changed everything.
Carly: Mm, it's great to have a soul mate.
Jennifer: Yeah, it's awful to lose one. So how are you? How's it going?
Carly: Got to keep on keeping on. What else can you do, right?
Jennifer: Yeah. Um, I wanted to talk to you-- the other day when you dropped by Daniel's house with Melanie, you seemed just a little uncomfortable when you saw me with him.
Carly: No, I was just surprised. I have no claim on Daniel.
Jennifer: No, I'm not talking about claims. I'm talking about feelings.
Carly: Look, Daniel and I share friendship, a profession, and most importantly a child, but that's it. That's all we have. He's been through hell. He deserves a woman like you.
Jennifer: Well, thank you. That's--that's really nice to hear, but what about you? Don't you deserve some happiness too?
Rafe 2: I'm telling you, that card is nothing but a worthless piece of plastic now.
Sami: How did you do that?
Rafe 2: Do what?
Rafe: Oh, look there. Your old card's linked to your account. But it's asking me for a password.
Rafe 2: Well, maybe your wife knows what it is. I mean, she knows where all my moles are.
Rafe: See... I hate when you say things like that because it makes me... do that! [Grunts]
Sami: I hate that guy so much.
Rafe: Yeah, well... at least he's quiet for a while.
Sami: How are we gonna find the password now?
Rafe: Like this.
Sami: How did you do that? Oh, my god, you...
Rafe: The government likes to know when guys like him come into large amounts of money. And we're in.
Sami: Whoa. Look at the size of that deposit.
Sami: Oh, my god. And that is definitely what he was gonna get away from Salem with.
Rafe: It wasn't in cash either.
Sami: So we can trace it, right? I mean, that means we can link it back to Stefano and EJ.
EJ: I can't tell you anything.
Stefano: You say this to me? To me?
EJ: Stop with the Italian, father, huh? Listen, I'm doing this to protect you.
Stefano: I don't need protection.
EJ: If you get taken into questioning by the police, I need you to be able to say honestly that you know nothing about what is going on.
Stefano: When have you ever known me to be honest with the police? All right, how bad is it?
EJ: It's bad.
Stefano: Well, then you have to tell me, for goodness sake. You're my son.
EJ: I have a son, too, father, and I have a daughter. I don't want anybody who I love to be affected by this. So I'm sorry if you're not happy with this, but you're just going to have to do this my way. I'm not having you dragged down with me because of my mistake.
Taylor: I have been trying to steer clear of EJ.
Nicole: [Chuckles] How's that working out for you?
Taylor: How's it working out for you to be blackmailing your husband?
Nicole: See, there you go, throwing that word around again. I don't see it that way. I think that I'm giving EJ a shot at redemption here.
Taylor: [Laughing] Redemption? In a loveless marriage?
Nicole: Who said it was loveless?
Taylor: You did, last night.
Nicole: EJ and I love Sydney and Johnny. And they both love us. And a part of me loves EJ. We are a family... a twisted one maybe, but the only family that I have ever really had. And I am not going to lose it. Now, look, EJ might be unhappy right now, but he will get over it. He's like a little raccoon. He gets distracted by something shiny, but eventually he always comes back to me. He does.
Taylor: Well, I think what you're doing--
Nicole: I don't care what you think. You have worn out your welcome. So why don't you hop back on that bus that you are so fond of and hit the open road? Why don't you go visit Brandon or something? Or better yet, why don't you go far, far away and get your own damn life?
Taylor: Oh, my god. She knows. What's so special about mini babybel cheese?
Chad: So let me get this straight. We--we can't even be friends? I mean, that's kind of ridiculous.
Abigail: Look, it's--it's totally me, okay? It's just... I cannot stop bugging you about Stefano being your father. I mean, aren't you annoyed with me? I'm annoyed with me.
Chad: I was. Okay? But I keep coming back to the fact that you do it because you actually give a damn about me.
Abigail: Yeah. Yeah, I do.
Chad: So I was thinking... that since you've got this internship and I'll be working with Stefano that, you know, maybe we can meet for lunch.
Chad: This time... every day.
Abigail: Ah, your father will probably hate that.
Chad: Yeah, well, that's his problem. I want to know what you think of the idea.
Abigail: I'll think about it. These are beautiful. Thank you. I am going to leave them right here so that everybody can see them. I should probably get back to work, though, so...
Chad: Yeah, yeah, okay. I'll, uh--I'll, um-- I'll just see you, so...
Abigail: Wait. Okay.
Taylor: Hey, Lex.
Taylor: Oh, god, thank god you had time to talk with me.
Lexie: Oh, honey, what's going on?
Taylor: I just had a major scene with Nicole. I am sure she knows about me and EJ.
Lexie: Did she tell you that?
Nicole: God, Nicole doesn't take the direct approach, I mean, not with me anyway, but, oh, god, I know--I know that she knows.
Lexie: Oh. Did she threaten you?
Taylor: No. No, I just--I can't believe this. I cannot believe I let this happen. I can't believe that I did this to my sister's life.
Lexie: EJ was in there, too, Taylor, every step of the way.
Taylor: Okay, yeah, but you know what? I should have known better. I should have been stronger. I should have never moved into his house. I mean, I should have-- I mean, come on, I should have left Salem if that's what it took.
Lexie: Okay, would you stop it?
Lexie: Acting like you're some little vixen and Nicole's a saint. Look, I have observed Nicole for a while now. If that marriage is in trouble, it is Nicole's fault. It's not your fault.
Nicole: Oh, just in time. I'll have one of those. Thank you.
EJ: You're welcome.
Nicole: You might want to hang around for a few minutes.
EJ: Really? Why's that?
Nicole: Just had a nice conversation with Taylor. Actually, it wasn't that nice. She kept throwing the word "blackmail" all over the place. Any idea who told her?
EJ: Mm, nope.
Nicole: Must have been Lexie. She and Taylor are tight. And I really wish you wouldn't confide in your sister quite as much.
EJ: Does it really matter, um... who told Taylor?
Nicole: Yeah, it does matter. So from now on, you're gonna keep your trap shut.
EJ: Or what?
Nicole: Could you... please give up this fiction that I do not hold all the cards? Do I have to remind you that I have proof that you and Stefano were doing mind games on Rafe in the basement? You serve at the pleasure of the queen. And right now she's not amused.
Sami: Did you tuck him in?
Sami: So how are we gonna connect the money to Stefano and EJ?
Rafe: Well, let's see. The bank puts a reference number on every wire transfer, so... let's see where this leads us. Oh.
Sami: What is it?
Rafe: Dummy corporation. It's probably not even in the country.
Sami: Which means what?
Rafe: We've hit a wall... for now.
Sami: Guess it was too much to hope that EJ would pay for this out of his personal checking account.
Rafe: All right, hold on. Let me find out some more about this corp. No. There's nothing here to connect Stefano or EJ to, uh... the money.
Sami: Come on. Really? You know they held you hostage all those months. That guy came in at exactly the same time to take your place, and then he got a big payoff. That's not nothing. That's a lot.
Rafe: Okay, fine. We can maybe get EJ and Stefano for what they did to me, but who knows? I mean, it's my word against theirs.
Sami: Okay, okay, there's got to be a way to connect the dots here, because I want Stefano and EJ to pay for what they did. I want them out of our lives for good.
Rafe: Yeah, so do I. [Scoffs] Believe me. But like you said, we need to be careful here. Now, if EJ so much as even hears a rumor that I'm back, you're right--he's gonna take those kids, and he's gonna take off. He'll disappear. I don't know. I don't know. Maybe we need to just rethink this whole plan.
Sami: Are you giving up on me?
Chloe: You buttoned your shirt wrong.
Quinn: Oh, I did.
Chloe: Want me to help you fix it?
Quinn: No. I'll do it. I'm afraid if you do it, we'll end up back in bed.
Chloe: Oh, would that be so bad?
Quinn: Definitely not. But I have a meeting to get to. I look forward to seeing you again.
Chloe: Me too.
Chloe: [Sighs] He looks forward to seeing me again. That's a start.
Carly: Happy isn't a word I use very much these days.
Carly: That doesn't mean you shouldn't be happy. If you found something with Daniel, then go for it.
Jennifer: You know what? Things--things are gonna work out for you. They are. You are--are too good a person.
Carly: Well, I must be. Look at who my friends are. I got to run. I'm sorry about that.
Jennifer: Okay, we are gonna reschedule this lunch, okay?
Carly: Yeah, absolutely.
Jennifer: Promise me.
Carly: Yeah, you're paying.
Jennifer: Okay. [Laughs] Okay. Bye.
Rafe: You really think that I would just give up on this?
Sami: No. No, I'm sorry.
Sami: I'm sorry, okay? I just don't trust my own instincts, okay? I just don't know. It's so hard for me. After what I did, I don't--
Rafe: Will you stop being sorry? You didn't do anything, Sami. You didn't do anything. Stuff was done to you, to both of us.
Sami: I should have known.
Rafe: You should have-- you should have known? Known what? That they were gonna insert a clone of me into your life? If you'd have said that to anyone, they'd have locked you up.
Sami: All that time, I kept waiting for a sign from him that seemed like you, seemed like something you would do, and then finally he rescues Theo and Ciara, and I think, "oh, my god"--
Rafe: Wait, hold on. He rescued Theo and Ciara?
Sami: Yeah. Yeah, while I was gone. I went to visit, um, Eric in Colorado, and my dad called me and told me that the kids had run away and... that you had saved them.
Sami: So I came rushing back, 'cause it seemed like something you would do, and then I got home, and all your stuff was packed up in your car, and he was gonna take off.
Rafe: Why would he waste his time, if he was taking off, to rescue some kids that he didn't give a damn about?
Sami: I don't know. I-I can't figure that one out.
Rafe: Maybe he was ordered to do it.
Nicole: You know, this little marital snafu that we've run into--it's okay. We'll work it out, just the two of us. No Stefano, no Lexie... and certainly no sweet Taylor.
Nicole: Good. I'm glad we understand each other.
EJ: Me too. Oh, um... one more thing. You think you have the upper hand at the moment. Maybe you do. But you've had it before. And you've never really managed to hold it for very long. You'd do well to remember that.
Nicole: Oh, I will.
[Jukebox plays upbeat music]
Stefano: Ah. You're late.
Chad: Yeah, well, I just got a text from my supervisor.
Chad: Well, she changed my lunch break.
Stefano: No. The injustice of it all.
Chad: Well, the schedule was set. I mean, they do realize that I have a life, right?
Stefano: Things happen.
Chad: Can't you call her? Is there something that you can do? I mean...
Stefano: Is that what you want me to do? You want your daddy to go in and talk to your boss and tell him that his little boy is not happy when he gets lunch?
Chad: Oh, it--it was you, wasn't it?
Stefano: What are you talking about?
Chad: You found out that I went to go see Abigail, so you got my supervisor to yank my chain, right?
Abigail: Oh, dr. Manning. Oh, my gosh, I'm so sorry. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. Let me help you.
Nicole: Hey, Chloe.
Chloe: Hey, thanks for meeting me on such short notice.
Nicole: Yeah, I wanted to get out of the house anyway. So what's up?
Chloe: Well, I figured I'd call you with some good news for a change.
Nicole: What happened?
Chloe: The big news is... if I get my life together, I'm probably gonna be able to see parker soon.
Nicole: Oh, honey, that's great.
Chloe: Yeah, uh, I talked to Justin, and he couldn't really tell me anything, but I think he talked to Philip, because all of a sudden, there's hope.
Nicole: Philip can't take your baby away. You're his mother.
Chloe: I lost custody.
Nicole: Well, you have to keep pushing. Don't give up.
Chloe: I won't. And there's kind of something else. I met a guy.
Nicole: You did? From around here?
Chloe: Uh, no, not really. But he travels a lot, and he's here in Salem for a while, and I think he likes me.
Nicole: Have you slept with him?
Nicole: I'm sorry. I'm glad things are better for you. I am, really.
Chloe: Hey, what's wrong?
Taylor: My slut of a sister is circling EJ.
Chloe: How do you know?
Nicole: I just--I know, and so does EJ. But I am his wife, and he better be reminded of that, or else...
Chloe: Or else what?
Nicole: I will make mincemeat of his little girlfriend.
Taylor: I-I have--I have no idea what I should do next.
Taylor: And now Nicole wants me to leave town.
Lexie: Yeah, well, of course she does. And you know what? If she really does know about you and EJ, she's not gonna back down.
Taylor: I know. You're right. And I know now... what I have to do.
Sami: Has he come to yet?
Rafe: He's coming around. Listen, tell me about Colorado again, when you got back.
Sami: Okay. I came back, and, uh, like I said, he had everything packed up, and he claimed that he was planning to take a break to think about us... but then that he couldn't because he knew Theo and Ciara were missing. But you're right. Why would he go after them? He doesn't care about them.
Rafe: Yeah. Now, if we could just prove that Stefano was the one giving the orders...
Sami: But why would Stefano order him to do that? It doesn't make sense. I mean, he had a clean getaway... except for that. And he had already accomplished his task. He had broken us up, which is exactly what they wanted. It just doesn't make sense. I think it's just a coincidence. I think that Ciara and Theo slowed him down. And it gave me a reason to come back. I mean, it was something... that you would have done. And--and I just couldn't give up, so I came back, and I told him I wanted to... try again. And so he staged it so that I would overhear him admitting that he had cheated on me with this other woman and... so, yes, he had some skank in our bed, which is fantastic and... I mean, if I hadn't grabbed that bank card, he'd be long gone by now.
Rafe: Wow. Okay. So, clearly, making a connection between Stefano and the kids is a dead end. We need to follow the money.
Rafe: Beats me. [Scoffs] I don't know. EJ's English. He's a big fan of Ivanhoe?
Sami: Why would you ask me that?
Rafe: No, I was just... making a joke. The dummy corporation that paid off our boy... it's called the Ivanhoe corp.
Sami: Are you serious?
Rafe: Do you know something about it?
Sami: I sure do.
Stefano: You're the one that told me that you did not want any special treatment from me. So you're not getting it. Now, you want to change your schedule, then you just go and talk to your supervisor.
Stefano: Where are you going? You're the one that picked out this dump. We haven't even ordered yet.
Chad: I don't want to punch in late, sir. Oh, you know, and one more thing, when I'm off work, I'm gonna see Abigail Deveraux anytime that I feel like it. You have yourself a nice day.
Carly: Abigail, it's okay. You don't have to help me, okay?
Abigail: No, I do. It was my fault.
Abigail: Oh, I got... these were, uh...
Quinn: Oh, Chloe... you'll definitely hear from me again. You don't know it yet, but this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
Chloe: You can't go after your own sister.
Nicole: Why not?
Chloe: Because it's not normal.
Nicole: She's going after my husband. Think that's normal?
Chloe: Well, just think about it. When you're old one day, she may be all you have.
Nicole: What's wrong with you? I don't have her now. She's dead to me.
Nicole: I mean it, Chloe. Taylor has pushed me too far. And now I'm gonna push back.
[Cell phone ringing]
EJ: I, um... I didn't expect to hear from you.
Taylor: Um... can you meet me in the park?
EJ: You joking? I mean, of course I can.
Taylor: Good. I have something I need to tell you.
Sami: The Ivanhoe corporation.
Rafe: Where have you heard it before?
Sami: I'll be damned.
Rafe: Where have you--tell me.
Sami: The mail that EJ would get to the house when I was living at the DiMera mansion.
Rafe: Did you open any of it?
Sami: Of course not. But when I looked through the little window, you know, in the envelope, you could tell that it was totally a check.
Rafe: All right. Finally.
Sami: So now what? What do we do?
Rafe: Well, I would sure like to get my hands on one of those checks. If we could get the routing number, the bank account number, we'd be in business.
Sami: I bet the creature knows all about that stuff.
Rafe: Yeah, sure, but he's not gonna tell us anything.
Sami: Okay. So what do we do now?
Rafe: We can't do this alone. We need to bring in the cops. Da
Taylor: I need to know, is there anything else that you failed to mention?
Sami: We are gonna pull this off, and we are gonna get our lives back.
Carly: I'm telling you I want you to leave me alone.
