Nicole: DNA results? Prisoner? EJ, what are you up to? I'm gonna find out.
Stefano: Hmm. That was the orderly from the asylum. Rafael escaped this morning.
EJ: You don't seem very upset about that.
Stefano: He's dead. Fell off a cliff.
EJ: [Sighs] Guess that'll teach him he ought to look wherever he's going. [Laughing] Ohh, wow! I mean, I certainly never intended for him to... be dead, but... this is very tidy. [Sighs] Samantha. Check. And mate.
Ciara: Theo, you have to promise.
Theo: No! I wanna go now!
Rafe 2: Hold on a second there, little man. You're not going anywhere, you hear me?
Ciara: Daddy? Daddy!
Taylor: Hey. Hi.
Taylor: I'm sure you heard the good news about Theo and Ciara?
Stefano: No. No, no, no. We haven't.
Taylor: Oh, they tracked down a young girl in Centerville who saw them. Yeah, Bo and Hope, they're already there.
Stefano: Thank God!
Taylor: Yeah, the girl said they're fine. They were just hungry, and Lexie's certain that they're gonna be home soon.
Stefano: Oh, thank God.
EJ: That's wonderful. Thank you for telling us. Nice that somebody keeps us in the loop, huh?
Taylor: Yeah, well, I'm sure Lexie was just waiting until she knew for sure to tell you.
Stefano: All right, fine. Look, I am going to tell Katherine. I will leave you two alone. Okay, thank you. [Muttering] She told me... I don't understand that. Oh! Katherine.
Kate: Hello, my love.
Stefano: Taylor just informed us that they think they know where Theodore is.
Kate: [Joyful laugh]
Stefano: I know. I know, I know. [Laughs] Ah, the only trouble is, uh... Alexandra didn't feel the need to tell me. And...Elvis told me that I was on thin ice because I did not agree with some of his suggestions, see? Oh, God. Children!
Kate: Agh! Tell me about it. I'm going to be racking up the frequent flyer miles visiting Lucas in Hong Kong and Philip and Parker, wherever they land. I don't know. London. I'll tell you what. Why don't you say that we get out of here and get some fresh air?
Stefano: Good idea. Let's take a page from Theodore's book, huh? And run away from home. Come on...let's go.
Kate: [Laughs] Thank you.
Taylor: So you and your father seemed to be in a pretty intense conversation when I got here. Of course, things are...always pretty intense around here.
Taylor: You know, um... maybe I should just go to another job or something and just decompress.
EJ: The conversation that I just had with my father, that... involved you.
Taylor: Well, there's nothing to say about me, 'cause I'm going.
EJ: What if you didn't have to go? What if Nicole went?
Nicole: Glad to see your good intensions were short lived.
Chloe: You're back.
Nicole: Yes. Trust me. No judgment here. I'm glad to have the company. Uh, excuse me. Can I have what she's having? And just keep 'em coming.
Nicole: So, um... you need a little fortification to face life at Maggie's, and I need some to face Chez DiMera.
Chloe: What happened?
Nicole: I don't know, exactly. But I'm gonna find out.
Bo: No. No, no, no. Nothing that ever happened between your mommy and me was ever your fault. Yes, baby, we--we had our problems. But it wasn't because of you, okay? Your mommy and me, we just didn't work hard enough to keep our family together. We didn't...we didn't work hard enough to see things the same way, all right? But you gotta know something. You gotta remember this. Mommy and I, we--we will never be happy at home if you're not there with us. Okay? [Crying] My God. You're the most precious, precious person in the world to us. And we love you. Love you very, very, very much.
Ciara: I love you too, Daddy.
Bo: Okay. Okay. [Gasps] And you are one amazing friend. You--you hung in there with Ciara. You were...there with her all the time; made sure she wasn't alone. And I'm sure at times that was pretty scary, huh? Yeah. But you hung in there. You're a true and loyal friend, and that says an awful lot about you.
Theo: Thank you.
Bo: Yeah. But the two of you have to remember something. No matter what's going on at home, what problems you have, running away is never the answer, okay? You scared an awful lot of people. 'Cause running away is not the answer--ever, ever, ever.
Ciara: I promise, Daddy.
Bo: Oh, good. Good. That's my girl. Ohh. Oh, my goodness. We better call your mommy. I'm sure she wants to know you're safe and okay. All right? [Sniffles]
Hope: Do you have them?
Bo: Yeah, they're here. Both of them are here, and they are fine. I'm gonna let you talk to your daughter, okay?
Ciara: Hi, Mommy.
Hope: Oh, baby! Ohh, God, thank God you're okay. I love you so much.
Ciara: I love you too, Mommy.
Hope: Okay, I'll see you when you get here, okay? I've missed you so much. I can't wait to see you.
Ciara: Me, either.
Hope: Tell Theo that his mommy and daddy can't wait to see him too, okay?
Ciara: Okay, I will.
Bo: Hey, I'm gonna hang up right now so we can get there and you can get some real hugs.
Lexie: So they're safe and sound.
Stefano: Oh, you know, I'm so relieved to hear that. My God, I'll be right over.
Lexie: Actually, um, we think Theo may need a little time to decompress. I'll call you tomorrow and set something up, okay?
Stefano: Fine. Give him a hug for me.
Lexie: I will.
[Phone beeps off]
Stefano: Hmm. I have been cordially asked to...stay away.
Kate: Ohh. [Scoffs] I'm sorry.
Stefano: Oh, it's all right. Anyway, the important thing is that Theodore is safe and sound. That's all that counts. I'll go over there sometime when Abraham is taking a bath or something. You know, I know what I'm going to do. I am going to call Chad, okay?
Stefano: Because he's always been worried about Theo.
Kate: You don't have to call him; he's right in there.
Stefano: That's great. It's serendipity.
Kate: He's with Abigail.
Ciara: Mommy, I can't breathe.
Hope: Oh, baby! Oh, thank God you're back. We were so scared, so scared.
Bo: So were your folks, little man. They love you and miss you an awful lot.
Theo: We went on a truck!
Bo: Yeah, we figured that out; that's how you got so far away from home.
Hope: Hundreds of people were looking for you, praying for both of you.
Theo: I'm hungry.
Ciara: Me too.
Hope: Hey, I bet you are. How 'bout we get something?
Bo: Okay, why don't you take these guys and go grab something to eat. I gotta talk to Rafe here for a second.
Hope: Rafe, again, thank you. My God, thank you. Thank you so much. Okay, let's go. Whoops! Let's go, kids.
Bo: All right, see you in a second.
Rafe 2: [Sighs]
Bo: Okay, man, uh... well, we know how the kids got here. What I don't know is how the heck did you find them?
Rafe 2: Well...I'll tell you.
Nicole: Do you remember when I told you I was trying to figure out how EJ could have engineered Rafe's accident?
Nicole: Okay, well... I haven't, but... well, figured it out, anyway. But something strange happened to me when I left. I went on a walk to clear my head, and I heard Vivian braying to that mutant that follows her around. And I hid, because, of course, I didn't want to have another run-in with her. But she was, um... she was talking about the DiMeras. And...that there was a prisoner in the basement.
Chloe: They have a prisoner in the basement?
Nicole: And I realized... I knew when they were having something built in the basement, and EJ told me not to ask any questions, and so I didn't. But this happened before the accident. And--and Vivian, she was trying to figure out who was in there, but she couldn't. I think I know. I think it was Rafe.
EJ: I just told my father... I'm divorcing Nicole.
Taylor: What, be-- because of me?
EJ: No, I'm doing it because we love each other, and this is the only solution to this situation.
Taylor: Okay, you know what? I'm not sure that I agree with either one of those statements, but what I do know is it will break Nicole's heart, and I will not be a part of breaking my sister's heart.
EJ: This has nothing to do with you, all right? I'm doing this for all of our sakes.
Taylor: No! I won't let you.
Chad: Do you think it'd be all right if I called Lexie? I'm gonna call Lexie, let her know that I'm thinking about her.
Abigail: Yeah, I think that'd be really nice.
[Cell phone rings]
Kate: Hi! Chad, it's me. I have really good news. They've found Theo. He's fine and he's on his way home.
Chad: Oh, my God, that's great. And--and Ciara?
Kate: Oh, she's fine too. I have a favor to ask you, though. I am at the pier, and I'm waiting for a client to come in on their yacht. I'm supposed to text them, and my phone has gone absolutely haywire, and I am in desperate need of a tech-savvy young man.
Chad: Uh, yeah, yeah. No problem.
Kate: [Sighs] I am in your debt forever. And believe me, that is a very good place to be. Mission accomplished. Mwah! On to step two.
Stefano: Thank you.
Chad: See you later.
Bo: I'd just like to know how you found the kids. I mean, this runaway girl gave us a lead, but... you were there before I got there.
Rafe 2: Yeah? Ah, well, uh, let me go back a little, try and explain.
Bo: Sure, that'd be great.
Rafe 2: I don't know how much your brother's told you or... said, but, um...I've been having a little trouble ever since the accident.
Bo: Yeah, well, my brother hasn't told me anything. He's notoriously tight-lipped about the people who work for him.
Rafe 2: Well, nice to know. Well, anyway, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed. And, um... you maybe noticed I've been doing a pretty lousy job at the station. Anyway, I asked for a leave of absence right about the same time that the kids went missing. So naturally, Roman freaked out on me, bit my head off.
Bo: Yeah, he's good at that.
Rafe 2: Yeah. But you know what? It didn't take me long to see that he was right. The truth is...he and I, we weren't on such great terms, and, um... so I started to look for Theo and Ciara myself. I knew that you and Roman, you were covering all the usual bases. But I gotta tell you... there was this case in my rookie year where this kid, um, he stowed away on a delivery truck. I didn't want to say anything because, uh, you know, maybe I was way off base here, all right?
Bo: Obviously you weren't.
Rafe 2: Well, right. And that's how I found the kids.
Bo: Heh! Before I did?
Rafe 2: Right again, hmm?
Bo: When I got there, I noticed the grip you had on Theo.
Rafe 2: Well, uh...you see--
Bo: Were you concerned that he was gonna take off or something?
Rafe 2: He was scared of me. He was giving me some attitude, and, uh, I thought he might take off again.
Bo: Thanks, man. I am gonna tell Roman about the great job you did. Thanks.
Rafe 2: My pleasure.
Bo: From the bottom of my heart, thanks.
Rafe 2: Okay. [Sniffs]
Chloe: Wait...so you think that EJ kept Rafe locked in a basement?
Nicole: Mm-hmm. I think he and Stefano were in it together.
Nicole: Why not? Look what they did to John Black. And I have a feeling those two are more easily threatened than they let on.
Chloe: Oh, okay, I'm sorry. I'm probably missing something here, but... even if Rafe was locked in a basement, do you think he'd just let that slide? He wouldn't mention it later on to, I don't know, say his boss at the police station?
Nicole: Well, uhh! They made it so John Black couldn't remember anything. Maybe Rafe doesn't even remember.
Chloe: Okay, well, how long was he locked up for? If it was more than a couple hours, don't you think Sami would have noticed he wasn't there?
Nicole: You're being negative about my theory.
Chloe: I'm kind of confused.
Nicole: Look... I overheard Vivian just a few minutes ago, and we already talked about how Rafe isn't acting like Rafe. Even Sami thinks he's weird. Mm. You know what? Johnny has this little remote control car. He can make it do whatever he wants from the next room. Maybe they did something like that to Rafe.
Chloe: Yeah, that is plausible. That happens all the time.
Nicole: Okay, you keep this up, I'm not gonna tell you the good part.
Chloe: What's the good part?
Nicole: Do you know what this is?
Nicole: It's a DNA report. From the person that was in that basement. I think it's gonna match Rafe's. And then I would be able to prove that EJ and Stefano kidnapped Rafe and they took over his mind.
Chloe: Okay, Nicole, if any of this is even a little bit, almost true, what if EJ finds out that you know? Aren't you scared?
Nicole: No, I'm not scared. I'm his wife.
EJ: I am divorcing Nicole. There is nothing that you can do to stop me.
Taylor: Well, I can make it pointless. Look, I am leaving no matter what you do. There's no reason, once I'm gone, that you and Nicole can't go back to how things were before.
EJ: But we can't, all right? Because I won't!
Taylor: Why not?
EJ: Because I met you. Because I love you. I'm not gonna spend the rest of my life living some charade. Please.
Taylor: Just listen to me, okay? Listen. You and Nicole...and those kids, you have something very, very special together. You are a family. She loves them. She loves you.
EJ: That's why I have to divorce her. I have to do the right thing, because I love her too.
Stefano: Well, well, well, look at you. [Laughs] You're actually writing something, and with a pen. How delightfully un-technical.
Abigail: Mr. DiMera.
Stefano: Well, I'm glad I bumped into you. I have great news. My grandson has been found.
Abigail: I-I know. Chad was here when your wife called him. That's great.
Stefano: Do you mind?
Abigail: Do I have a choice?
Stefano: So, ahem. What can I get you? We celebrate.
Abigail: So I can have a free coffee while you twist my arm?
Stefano: [Chuckles] I'm sor-- I'm sorry, I don't understand.
Abigail: Mr. DiMera.
Abigail: You don't wanna talk to me about your grandson or about my writing. You wanna talk to me about Chad because you don't want him working at the hospital this summer in the internship.
Stefano: Clever girl. You're absolutely right. Yes, I want him to work with me.
Abigail: And you always get what you want, don't you?
Stefano: Abigail, ahem, I want you to understand something. I want him to work at DiMera Enterprises with me. Not for my sake, but for his.
Kate: Ohh. Wow! Seems so simple once you know how.
Chad: You said if I helped you, you'd be in debt to me.
Kate: [Unzips purse] So...what do you want?
Chad: To know why you really wanted to see me.
Taylor: You love her too? That's great. And, you know, in another month, you can find another woman that you love, and then another and then--and then--and then-- I don't know, soon you can have a whole magazine subscription, and they could all come and live in your house together and share in your big love!
EJ: Taylor, would you just please listen to me?
Taylor: No, you know what? I don't want to hear it! I don't want to. Because yesterday, I almost made love to my sister's husband on the way to my mother's internment. I don't even know who I am anymore, and now you want to tell me that you want to divorce Nicole because of me, and that you love her too?
EJ: I love the way she is with my kids. And...I love how brave she is. And I love how funny she is. I love that she allows me to be me. And that would be perfect... if I were in love with her. But I'm not in love with her. I'm in love with you.
Taylor: Well... you can draw some pretty fine distinctions. But an eloquent speech does not change the fact that what you are about to do is the emotional equivalent of running over Nicole with a truck. It seems that I'm a part of it, whether I like it or not.
EJ: Taylor, the--the damage has been done. This truck you're talking about has been heading toward Nicole from the moment that I first set eyes on you. What's best for her? To spend some half life... waiting for a man to love her who's never going to love her in the way that she needs it.
Taylor: It was fine by you when you married her.
EJ: [Bangs table] I put all my cards on the table. All of them, all right? I was very honest with her. I told her this was business arrangement. I told her it was a business... arrangement. And then she goes and falls in love with me. She falls in love with me. So what now? I'm supposed to spend the rest of my life living a lie? 'Cause every second I'm with her is one.
Taylor: Oh, because the truth is so important to you?
EJ: Your sister...is hoping for something that is never going to happens. I think she has a right to know that.
Chloe: Yeah, you're his wife, until death do you part.
Nicole: Don't say that.
Stefano: I cannot believe that Fay Walker could discover a secret that we have kept hidden all this time!
EJ: Look, Father, I don't know how she did it, but the more I think about it, the more I keep going over it, that's the only thing that Fay could have been trying to tell Nicole. It's about Rafe.
Chloe: Liar. You're scared, and that's good. You need to be careful, Nicole.
Nicole: I will be.
Chloe: Good, and...you should burn this and...forget anything Vivian ever told you. I'm gonna get us two more of these. [Sighs]
Nicole: So, EJ... Sami took the kids and went to her brother's, and you're fine with that. Sami...you left the man of your dreams...and there is only one reason for that. [Sighs] Somehow...EJ managed tore change Rafe into...some man you couldn't bear to live with. How did he do that? My mom knew. Now she's dead. Hey!
Kate: Do you always think that I have an ulterior motive for everything I do?
Kate: [Snickers] Wow. You are your father's son. You see right through me.
Chad: Well, you didn't answer my question.
Kate: Actually, I was trying to keep you from going back to the house.
Kate: I really didn't want to have to tell you this. I want you to think of the house as a--as a warm and a peaceful environment, but the truth is, there are rough times ahead for Nicole and EJ. He's going to ask her for a divorce.
Chad: [Chuckles] Wow, he's, uh, he's a real charmer. I mean, she just lost her mother.
Kate: Yeah. You went through that too, right?
Chad: Can't you just talk to Stefano? Have him make EJ back off? At least until the six-month anniversary?
Kate: Oh, well, there's something that you'll learn. Stefano is always loath to interfere in his children's lives.
Stefano: Abigail, I think that Chad is a very bright young man, and...I think that he could make a big difference in life.
Abigail: Ahem, well, uh, Chad has a job at the Cheatin' Heart.
Stefano: Ah, what they pay him there a joke.
Abigail: Even so, am I supposed to buy that you can't pay his tuition?
Stefano: Well, of course I can, but he won't let me.
Abigail: Well, why don't you invent another scholarship?
Stefano: I don't think he would ever let that happen. You see, his--his honor and his independence are very important to him. You know something? I don't even know why I'm talking about this, because I'm sure Chad has made up his mind as to what he wants to do this summer, and if he has, there's nothing I can do about it.
Lexie: Baby! Oh, sweetheart! Oh! It's so good to see you!
Rafe 2: I should go. This is family.
Bo: No, no, no. I'm sure Abe and Lexie want to thank you. Come on in.
Rafe 2: That's thanks enough.
Abe: Oh, yeah, cupcake. Cupcakes, we got cupcakes. Come on, let's go. Cupcakes, yeah!
Lexie: Rafe... I can't thank you enough. I mean... not nearly enough. Thank you.
Bo: Let me grab you a beer to have with that cupcake, huh?
Rafe 2: Sounds good.
Hope: Would you excuse me a second?
Rafe 2: Yeah. I can go.
Hope: No, no, no. I know Bo wants to talk to you. Hey, sweetheart. [Kissing] Mm-mm-mwah! Do you know what I'm looking most forward to? Tucking my little girl in tonight and listening to daddy tell you a story. Just the three of us. Just the three of us. All alone. Sweetheart...you know that note you left us? Actually, um, Rafe said that you told him the same thing. That you thought that daddy and I would get along better alone? Baby, no, that could not be further from the truth. Daddy and I are back together. And we're happy. We're really, really happy. And you're a big part of that.
Ciara: I thought I was in trouble.
Hope: Oh, baby, no. Never. It was all a great, big misunderstanding. From now on, will you promise me something? If you're worried about something, you talk to us first. We can clear things up, okay? 'Cause that's what families do. And we're a family. Come here. Ooh, baby, it's so good to have you back. Ohh, so, so good.
Taylor: Well, you seem very, very comfortable playing God with Nicole's life.
EJ: Look, I admit, that's what I've done in the past. But that's exactly what I'm trying not to do right now. Look at this marriage. It's a punishment. I made her choose between a man that she loved and a child that he loved. After this divorce has all gone through, she'll be fine. She'll be financially secure for the rest of her life. She'll have a relationship with Sydney and with Johnny. And she will be able to be with the man that she really loves. She can be with Brady.
Taylor: Okay. I see, I see. You're just thinking of her. I
Bo: Hey, I'm sorry to tear you away from 'em, but I've got some business here.
Hope: All right. There you go.
[Bo clears throat]
Rafe 2: What's up, kids? I heard you talking to your mom a little bit earlier about misunderstandings. I just wanted to make sure you and Theo didn't misunderstand. When I was looking for you guys, I found you.
Ciara: That's not what you said.
Rafe 2: [Laughs] Yeah, see? It was a misunderstanding, because I was looking for you, and I found you, right? Right? Didn't I, old gal? Yes, I did, silly pie. Silly.
Hope: [Laughs] Here you go.
Bo: Oh, thank you.
Hope: You're welcome. Here's a napkin. You know, Lexie was just telling me that Johnny and Sydney adore hi look at him, he's great with kids.
Nicole: You know what?
Nicole: You...are right.
Chloe: I'm never right about anything...
Nicole: This whole riff I did about Rafe...
Chloe: Your Rafe riff.
Nicole: I mean, what was I smokin'? Nicole just spent about, oh, half an hour in crazy land, right?
Chloe: If you say so.
Nicole: Oh, I do say so. So...let's not tell anyone about this, okay? We'll just keep this conversation between us.
Chloe: I'm glad it didn't happen. I think poking around DiMera business is just... it's a bad idea. It's a big mistake.
Nicole: Amen. You know, um... I'm gonna--I'm gonna go. I'm gonna call EJ and tell him that I'm coming home, okay? Here we go. [Slaps table] Better yet... I'm gonna surprise him. Have fun.
Taylor: Do you know what I wish? More than anything?
EJ: You wish you'd never met me. Kind of proves my point, though, doesn't it? I mean, the only way that we could have prevented this is if we never met. This is bigger than us. Taylor, this is meant to be.
Taylor: It's wrong.
EJ: It's out of our control. I'm not trying to hurt your sister; I promise you, I will be as gentle and kind with her as I possibly can be. When she comes out of this, she will be in a better position than she has ever been in. She'll be financially secure for the rest of her life. She'll have a relationship with Sydney. She'll be with the man she loves; she'll be with Brady. I-I don't think it's fair for you and I to keep from her the kind of love that we have.
Taylor: And she'll hate me forever. She's been betrayed by her own sister.
EJ: This has nothing to do with you.
Taylor: I didn't leave soon enough.
EJ: Well, maybe now it's too late. You need to do what's right for you. You need to work that out on your own.
Taylor: Just--just wait. Would you just wait?
Kate: Chad! You're back. I thought you were going to go be with Abigail.
Chad: Well, she had to study, so I didn't want to bug her.
Kate: You are so gallant. Just like your father.
Stefano: Son, is something bothering you?
Chad: No, no. I, uh, actually, uh-- okay, I think, um, I wanna work for you this summer.
Stefano: Ah! That's wonderful news.
Stefano: Uh... would I press my luck if I asked you why you changed your mind?
Chad: Well, I, uh, I got the feeling that, uh, Abigail just didn't want me around the hospital this summer. Like maybe she thinks I'd be crowding her. You know. It's no a big deal, really. It's just, a job's a job, right?
Chad: So, uh, I'll see you guys around, okay?
Stefano: Okay. Ciao. [Sighs]
Kate: You...are the master.
Stefano: Did you ever doubt it?
Hope: Rafe, what can I say? We're gonna miss you.
Rafe 2: Well, hey, who knows? Maybe I'll be back before too long.
Bo: Hey, man, I need to talk to you before you take off.
Hope: We'll let you talk.
Lexie: Bye, Rafe.
Bo: It's about that leave of absence you were telling me about.
Rafe 2: Right, well, hey. Now that the kids are back safe and sound, I guess I'm just gonna shove off.
Bo: Well, as you know, you can't shove off just yet. You gotta go down to the station and give your official statement.
Rafe 2: What for? I already told you what happened--how I found the kids. What's the big deal?
Bo: Come on, man. You're a cop. You know it's a big deal. Can't let you out of it. So means you're not gonna be leaving town just yet. That gonna be a problem?
[Water rushing nearby]
Taylor: Look, I-I am so confused now, and I just don't even know what to do.
EJ: Can you deny you love me?
Taylor: No. [Crying] I can't anymore.
EJ: Then it's settled.
Chloe: Leave me alone, Justin!
On the next “Days of our Lives" --
EJ: There's something I need to talk to you about. Something important.
Adrienne: Is everything okay?
Carly: I'm in big trouble.
