Daniel: Look, if your elbow hurts that much, let me just check it out.

Carly: No, I'm fine. It's nothing to worry about. Stop it, stop bugging me! I'm sorry. Forgive me, I'm just a little on edge. You know, the pain, my schedule. This isn't anything you need to worry about, okay?

Daniel: Well, it is if you're taking pain medication. Is there some reason you don't want me to look at your elbow?

Carly: Yes!

Rafe 2: What's the holdup, half pint? Your step-dad's dying over here. Attaboy. Hey, keep these coming, okay? I had a rough night. Long night. Hey, so this time right now, this is my time, okay? It's a special time. Rafe's buzz time.

Sami: Good morning.

Johnny: I got Rafe a beer.

Sami: Oh, I see. Uh, Johnny, Sydney has the game all set up in her room. She's so excited to play with you. And I said I would play, too. So why don't you go get everything ready, and I'll be right there.

Johnny: Okay.

Sami: You're having a beer at 9:00 in the morning?

Rafe 2: Yeah, whatever. What, look, it's no big deal, okay? Remember, I was working all night. So it's just like it's late.

Sami: Um, okay. I just want to make it clear that I don't think it's appropriate for Johnny to see you drinking at this hour of the morning.

Rafe 2: Oh, my God.

Sami: And I certainly don't think it's okay for him to get you the beer.

Rafe 2: Here we go again. Listen, I'm not in the mood, okay? So just--would you get off my back?

Sami: No. No, Rafe, we're gonna have this conversation. We're gonna have it now.

Rafe 2: Well, maybe I'm sick and tired of having these stupid, long-winded conver-- I'm working through something here. Okay?

Sami: What does that mean?

Rafe 2: Obviously you didn't hear. Last night Fay Walker died.

Sami: Oh, my God. How did she die?

Fay: [Gasping]

[Muffled scream]

Rafe 2: I guess, um... her heart stopped beating. She stopped breathin'. Whatever. I didn't get the details. But it's a real tragedy, you know?

Sami: Yes, obviously, it's a tragedy that she's dead. But this is still the woman that you only knew from the time you interrogated her when Nicole kidnapped Sydney, and when you went to her because you were hoping to find out about that tape that Nicole had on EJ.

Rafe 2: Hey!

Sami: So why are you just dealing with her death, Rafe?

Rafe 2: Would you stop?

Sami: It doesn't--

Rafe 2: Stop it! You have no idea how--how much that woman's death means to me.

Sami: Oh, God.

Stefano: It's impossible. I cannot believe that Fay Walker could discover a secret that we have kept hidden all this time.

EJ: Look, Father. I don't know how she did it, but the more I think about it, the more I keep going over it... [Whispering] It's the only thing that Fay could have been trying to tell Nicole. It's about Rafe.

Stefano: Agh.

Nicole: [Whispering] Rafe? What could mom know about Rafe?

[Table clatters]

EJ: Who's that?

Hope: Good morning.

Bo: Morning yourself.

Hope: It happened.

Bo: Yeah. It did.

Sami: Sorry, Rafe, it just doesn't make sense to me that you are all torn up about a woman's death that you hardly knew.

Rafe 2: For Pete's sake.

Sami: And I really don't appreciate you asking my son to bring you a beer at 9:00 in the morning.

Rafe 2: What, I can't have the kid do me a favor now?

Sami: He's not your bartender.

Rafe 2: I already told you. I worked all night. I'm beat, okay? And then I got the news about Fay Walker, and-- hell with it. You know, you get all weird when I'm not this oh-so-sensitive, mushy-headed guy. And then, when I show a little feeling, you get weird anyway.

Sami: That is not true, and you know it.

Rafe 2: I can't win with you, Sami. I can't, can I? I'm always the bad guy. No matter what I do, I am never, ever going to be able to please you, am I?

EJ: Who the hell is out there?

Hope: There's my little angel. Hey, sweetheart. How was your overnight at grandma and grandpa's house?

Ciara: Good.

Hope: Yeah? Where's Theo?

Ciara: He's still in the car. Uncle Abe wanted to talk to him. He'll be here in a minute.

Hope: Right, uh... you know, sweetie, daddy and I need to have a talk with you, too.

Ciara: Why?

Hope: Well--

Theo: Ciara, Ciara.

Hope: Oh, there's Theo. So we'll have to have that talk after school, okay? Just you, me, and daddy. Okay? Hey, Theo. Hi, sweetheart, how are you?

Theo: Hi.

Hope: Hi, honey--oops.

[Doorbell buzzes]

Hope: Boy, it's a busy house. That's probably Mrs. Hogan. She's bringing things over for the campout. Daddy will be down in a second. I'll be right back, okay?

Ciara: My mommy and daddy are getting a divorce.

Theo: Divorce?

Ciara: 'Cause of me. They're gonna tell me after school. So we have to run away today. And this time, we can't get caught.

Carly: I'm sorry I snapped at you. But the thing is, I have someone to look at my elbow, x-ray it, the whole bit, okay?

Daniel: Okay, okay, that's good. That's really good. Nothing wrong with a second opinion. So why don't I just take a look? If it hurts that much--

Carly: I don't need you to hover, okay? I'm an adult, I'm a doctor. I'll be fine.

Daniel: No, no, no. You have been going through a lot lately. You have. And we're just, you know, we're kinda worried about you. That's all.

Carly: Who's we? Are you and Melanie getting all worked up over some imaginary problem you think you have to solve?

Daniel: No, no, no, no. I-I'm sorry, I just meant me. I don't even know why I said we.

Carly: Don't do that to me, okay? You know what you said. You--you mean what you say. You said we. What does that mean?

Jennifer: He said we... because he was including me. I am worried about you, too. And I talked to Daniel to see if maybe he could help.

Carly: Can we speak for a minute alone?

Jennifer: Yes, we can, in my office.

Carly: Yeah.

Daniel: Okay, listen, before you go, I want you to underst--

Carly: You need to leave me alone. You need to leave me alone. I can't say it enough. We're done.

Nicole: Taylor and I were, um, at Java Cafe trying to make plans for mom's funeral. But we just... couldn't focus.

EJ: So you just got home.

Nicole: Yeah, I just wanted to be somewhere quiet.

Stefano: Then, uh, where is Taylor?

Nicole: I thought she'd be here before me, but I just got a text, and she said she had a few errands to run. She'll be back soon. Uh... is something wrong?

EJ: No, I don't think anything's wrong. Just a couple of business problems, that's all.

Stefano: Oh, which reminds me, I have to call Europe before the markets close.

EJ: Didn't hear you come in.

Nicole: Yeah, I know, usually I slam the door and make a lot of racket. I just don't have the energy today.

EJ: Yeah, I understand. Losing your mother is, uh, overwhelming. I know.

Nicole: Yeah, thank you.

EJ: Tell me you're not still thinking about what your mother said to you, about me having, you know, some kind of secret.

Nicole: I am.

Rafe 2: Ahh.

Sami: Maybe you're right. Maybe I do act as though everything you do is wrong.

Rafe 2: [Scoffs] Yeah. You're damn right. I used to think that, uh, you used to think I was great. Now I'm nothin'.

Sami: I would like nothing more than things to go back to the way they used to be. And I would do anything to make that happen.

Rafe 2: Yeah. Sure you would.

Sami: But there are a few things I won't do. I won't tolerate my children's welfare being in jeopardy. I will not put up with you encouraging my son to fight other kids. And I certainly won't tolerate you asking him to get you a beer first thing in the morning.

Rafe 2: There you go. [Clears throat] There you go. I mean, you say to me that you wanna make things work, but, "oh, Rafe, by the way, you're a terrible influence on my kids." And oh, let's not forget the fact that I never do anything right anymore. Not the way I used to. [Slams bottle down] So. You don't wanna stay here anymore? Is that it? I mean, how could you possibly stay with me, Sami?

Sami: I don't think I can.

EJ: Nicole, I cannot fathom what Fay could have meant when she said that to you. You're sure she wasn't more specific? She didn't give you a time, a place, a--a name, perhaps?

Nicole: Mm. You know, uh, I've decided, EJ, that your first instinct was right. My mom was on drugs for pain, blood pressure, heart, and God only knows what else. She--she probably didn't know what she was saying.

EJ: I'm glad. But sweetheart, if this is still bothering you--

Nicole: Could you do me a favor? I mean, normally I-I wouldn't ask this, but today is--

EJ: Of course. What is it?

Nicole: Come to Chicago with Taylor and me for my mom's funeral. It's just that sometimes I get so upset, and I can't think, and having you there --

EJ: Did you really think I was going to let you go on your own? Sweetheart. I'm gonna do everything I can to make this easier for you. Okay? Everything.

Bo: No, no, that's okay. I got it covered. There's my beautiful little girl. I missed you. Gimme a big hug! And her best buddy. Nice bump. Are you ready to ta--

[Phone rings]

Bo: Oh, darn, I-- somebody's texting me. I gotta-- why don't you run upstairs, grab the stuff that your mom laid out for you on your bed, okay? Why don't you go with her?

Hope: Oh, my gosh. [Laughs] Look at this. The young adventurers are gonna have to learn to pack before they go camping.

Bo: Um, l--I--you know what? I have to take care of this errand before I go to work. Can you take the kids?

Hope: Oh, I can't. I have that doctor's appointment, remember?

Bo: Right. Um, okay. Don't worry about it. I'll go out and use the radio in the car. I'll be right back in, okay?

Hope: Okay.

Carly: Why don't you just admit it? You're spying on me. Going to Daniel behind my back.

Jennifer: That is not what we're doing. We are worried about you. That is all.

Carly: I'm not some lost little puppy, okay? I'm a grown woman. I can take care of myself.

Jennifer: I understand that. But you've had a hard time losing Bo, and now you have all these memories of Lawrence coming up and--

Carly: Stop, stop obsessing over my problems. Get your own damn life! The last thing I want is you and Daniel sneaking around and whispering and feeling sorry for me.

Jennifer: That is not what we are doing. That's--all that we meant--

Carly: I don't care what you meant! You're supposed to be my friend. Friends don't gossip about friends, no matter how good it makes you feel, Jenn.

Jennifer: Wow, okay. Um, I'm really sorry.

Carly: Yeah, me, too. You know what, save your sympathy, because I don't need it. Jennifer, please wait. Agh.

Daniel: What, uh-- what happened?

Jennifer: [Sighs]

Daniel: Look, Carly's in a bad way, Jennifer. If she said something to you...it's okay, Jennifer. She do not mean to turn on the people who care about her. I think she's just trying to -- I don't know, cope with some--

Jennifer: [Sniffles],

Daniel: Okay.

Nicole: Really appreciate this.

EJ: Of course. So, um, when would you like to leave?

Nicole: Um, in a couple of hours.

EJ: Okay.

Nicole: You know, actually, uh, Taylor's not back yet, so think I'll use this time to run a couple of errands myself.

EJ: Okay. I'll, um, I'll call the pilot. I'll have get the plane ready in an hour or two.

Nicole: Great. Thank you so much.

Rafe 2: [Scoffs] You're not sure that you can stay. What the hell does that mean?

Sami: I had a long talk with my grandma about it last night, and I have, um, made the decision.

Rafe 2: What, you gonna go live with her now?

Sami: Well, I'm hoping she' let will stay there for a little while, yeah. But actually, I called my brother. And, um, Johnny and Sydney and I are gonna go stay with Eric...only for a few days.

Rafe 2: So. You want a divorce.

Ciara: Mommy?

Hope: Yes, honey.

Ciara: I told Mrs. Brown that I would bring in my special tea set in for show and tell today.

Hope: What? Oh, sweetie, I just put that away in the attic because you weren't using it. Remember?

Ciara: But I promised.

Hope: [Sighs] All right. I'll go get it. It'll take me a few minutes. Tell daddy to wait, okay? Be right back.

Theo: Tea set?

Ciara: Shhh. Here comes daddy.

Bo: Okay, you guys, I'm ready to go. Ready to take off?

Ciara: It's okay, Daddy. Mommy's getting my tea set from the attic. And she said she will drive us. You can go.

Bo: I rea--

Carly: You have a couple of friends who want to help you, and you treat them like they're ogres. That's--thats nice, Carly. That's smart.

[Door opens]

Daniel: All right, like it or not, we are gonna talk. So whatever is happening--

Carly: Let me--let me go first. Let me apologize. I am so sorry that I-I lost control like that. And you--you're just worried about me, and I jumped all over you. The thing is... there is something wrong.

Sami: I didn't say divorce.

Rafe 2: Sure sounded like that's what was coming.

Sami: I think we need some time apart. Some breathing room. We've had a lot of tension between the two of us. It's not good for anybody. So I'm gonna go stay with my brother, figure out what is going on. And then I'll-- we'll talk about what to do next.

Rafe 2: Separation.

Sami: Sure. Look, I don't know... how this happened. But I don't want it to, um, end this way. I, um... I wrote down Eric's number for you, in case you don't have it. I know how frustrated you get when I forget to charge my cell phone.

Rafe 2: Whatever.

Sami: I'm gonna go pack up Sydney and Johnny.

Rafe 2: Yeah. U hey, have a nice trip. Ahhh.

Stefano: Did she say anything?

EJ: No. She didn't hear anything. She's so consumed with her own grief, she can't focus on anything else.

Nicole: Oh, my God. Mom, I-- I just wanna cry. For you, for myself. But I can't. You knew about a secret EJ was hiding. You were so desperate for me to know. And now it turns out it's about Rafe? Oh, God, I gotta get myself together and find out at it was.

Bo: Okay, so your mom is gonna take you to school. I'm just gonna let her know I'm taking off, all right?

Ciara: It's all right, Daddy. I'll tell her.

Bo: [Chuckles] All righty. I love you. Have fun at school.

Theo: Bye.

Bo: Bye-bye.

Ciara: Grab this big backpack here. We need it to go camping. It's perfect.

Theo: Camping?

Ciara: Mm-hmm. Daddy's gone. Now we can go out the back so no one can-- no, wait. There's a truck outside. They're picking up branches from the storm last night. We can ride on the truck.

Theo: Ride on the truck!

Ciara: Come on, hurry.

Carly: I am so sorry for the way that I treated you. It was shameful. And you, too. I-I can't apologize enough. All right, here's the thing. My son's birthday was yesterday. I called him, hoping that, you know, we could reconnect a little bit.

Jennifer: He wouldn't take your call.

Carly: Well, it would've been better if he'd hung up on me.

Jennifer: Oh, Carly--

Carly: No, you know what? That's actually what he did. He hung up on me, but not before telling me that he would never forgive me for what I did, and I will never be a part of his life again.

Daniel: Wh--even though Nicholas knows his father was a vicious psycho who wanted to kill Melanie just to make you--

Carly: It's still his father, and he's dead because I killed him.

Jennifer: You know, someday he is gonna understand that you had to make that choice. He will.

Carly: I really don't think he will. Vivian is fanning the flames, and I am the perfect target for his anger. I'm gonna have to live with this. Point is, between my throbbing elbow and all this drama in my life, I really just wanted some time alone.

Daniel: And we wouldn't let that happen.

Jennifer: Two busy bodies from hell.

Carly: Look, it's not your fault. It's not your fault. Are you kidding me? When it comes right down to it, I'm a mess. I need my friends right now. Look, there's a lot going on. But I-I swear to you I can handle this, okay? Today was just a meltdown. It'll never happen again. Okay?

Daniel: That's good.

Jennifer: No, that's not okay.

[Doorbell rings]

EJ: [Clears throat] Hey.

Sami: Do you have a second?

EJ: Um, yes, please. Come inside. Can I, um, can I get you anything?

Sami: No, no, thanks. I'm not here long. Um, I just had a couple things I wanted to talk to you about. One is I wanted to give my condolences to Nicole and Taylor about their mother.

EJ: Right. Um, yeah. Uh, that's, uh, that's very kind of you. Unfortunately, they're not actually here at the moment. But I'll tell them.

Sami: Obviously, they must be overwhelmed with funeral arrangements.

EJ: Yeah, actually, the funeral is going to be in Chicago. That way a lot of, you know, Fay's friends can attend. We're actually going to head out there shortly. I think we'll probably stay overnight.

Sami: Oh. Oh, okay. Well, then, maybe this'll work out. Um, that's what I wanted to talk to you about. I am gonna go to visit my brother Eric, and I was hoping to take Johnny and Sydney with me.

EJ: Uh, look, Samantha. If you were thinking of having Rafe accompany you--

Sami: He's not going.

Rafe 2: Ugh. Eric. Pffft. Yeah, as if. [Knock at door] Let me guess. Beggin' for forgiveness on your knee-- hey, Nicole. What are you doing?

Nicole: I was hoping we could talk. It's important. You got a minute for me?

Rafe 2: Always got time for you, babe. C'mon in.

Hope: Ciara? Cia-- Ciara? Well, that's weird. I know she would've told Bo-- oh, gosh, she's gonna need these for school. Okay, I'll just drop them off at school after I meet her.

Bo: If my head weren't screwed on, I w-- what are you doing here? Kids in your car?

Hope: No, they're in your car, aren't they?

Bo: N--

EJ: What's going on?

Sami: Nothing. Nothing, it's just that I-- well, Rafe is--

EJ: Rafe is what? Samantha, would you please tell me what is going on?

Sami: Rafe isn't going to come with us, that's all.

EJ: Huh. I see. Why don't we go next door? You can sit down.

Sami: I'm fine here. Thanks.

EJ: Samantha, I have known you for a very long time. And you are not fine. Has Rafe done something to you? Whatever this is, this had better not affect the children.

Sami: No. No, absolutely not. The kids are fine. And Rafe hasn't done anything, okay?

EJ: But you're trying to take the kids to see your brother in Colorado.

Sami: Right.

EJ: Right?

Sami: Look, I think that Rafe needs some time, okay? There's a lot he has to adjust to, and I think he needs some time alone. And I think the kids and I would be better off, you know, just giving him some space.

EJ: So I take it you're finally beginning to recognize the concerns that I have.

Sami: No. I don't-- he's just different. Okay? And I... [Sighs heavily] I... Rafe used to be so... considerate and kind and wonderful with the kids in gener-- anyway, he's different since the accident. And I just have to work through that.

EJ: Look, for whatever it's worth, I know you always thought he was a fine man.

Sami: So I'm gonna take some time with the kids, uh, with Eric, and, um, you know, give him some space. And I'm gonna figure out what to do. And then I will come back here and do it.

EJ: Okay. Good idea. And listen, just forget about the custody arrangement for the time being. You keep the kids as long as you need them. Um, sorry, just one more thing. [Sighs] You never really had this conversation with me outside the hospital. Um... but, you know, when we talked after what happened to Johnny, and I told you that I wanted him-- the--you know, the children to have everything they need, everything they deserve, that really did include a loving relationship with their mother.

Sami: Thank you.

EJ: And--and to be frank, the way that you're handling the situation, putting the children first, I'm very proud of you.

Sami: Proud of me? Somehow I doubt that.

EJ: It's true. Listen, if there's anything that I can do to help in any way, just let me know.

Nicole: Is, uh, Sami here?

Rafe 2: No. No, she and the kids... it's just us.

Nicole: Well, good. I, uh, I wanted to see you alone.

Rafe 2: Here I am.

Nicole: Well, Taylor said you stopped by the mansion and you offered your condolences. And I just wanted to say thank you. Ahem.

Rafe 2: Yeah. Sorry, your mom. Uh... been one hell of a night all the way around.

Nicole: Well... I mean, the fact that you came by. It started me thinking. I mean, we've been getting along pretty well lately. And I appreciate you making an effort. Ahem.

Rafe 2: Well, it's nice that someone appreciates it.

Nicole: I do. Ahem...I do, believe me. So I thought I would just come by and see if we could work on getting our families closer together. And maybe you and Sami could-- [Coughing] God, I am--[Coughing] sorry. This cough is driving me nuts. You don't happen to have any cough drops around.

Rafe 2: Yeah, sure, I think I do. Uh, I'll go look.

Nicole: Thank you. [Coughing] Sorry. Okay. Spare key, spare key. I need a spare key. If I'm gonna come back here and search around, I need a key. Okay, um... oh, my God. Eric. Why?

Rafe 2: Sami must have taken them-- what are you doing?

Nicole: Rafe, do you know what's going on here? I mean, why is Sami's brother's name and number on this paper that's torn in half?

Rafe 2: She's gone.

Nicole: What?

Rafe 2: She took the kids and she went to see her brother Eric. And, uh, I don't know if she's coming back. At least not to me.

Nicole: Rafe, that can't be.

Rafe 2: Yeah. That's, uh... that's true. Yeah.

Nicole: I'm sorry.

Rafe 2: You're sorry? Yeah. Yeah, right. Like you care.

Nicole: I...I am.

Rafe 2: Really?

Nicole: Yeah. Come here. Poor thing.

Rafe 2: It's hard, you know?

Nicole: Yeah, I do. Believe me, um, losing someone is terrible. But, uh... look, just hang in there, okay? Everything will work itself out.

Rafe 2: Yeah. If you say so.

Nicole: Mm.

Bo: Ciara said you were taking them to school.

Hope: No. I have that doctor's appointment, remember?

Bo: Yeah.

Hope: Wait a second.

Bo: What?

Hope: Where's the camping stuff?

Bo: What?

Hope: The pup tent. All the camping supplies for the young adventurers. They were in that backpack. Oh, no.

Bo: What the hell?

Hope: Ciara?

Bo: Ciara!

Hope: Ciara! Ciara, are you here?

Ciara: They'll never find us. Now mommy and daddy won't be sad ever again.

Carly: [Crying] I'm so very, very sorry.

Jennifer: I love you.

Carly: [Crying] I love you.

Daniel: All right, all right.

Carly: Okay.

Daniel: All right, that's enough hugging here. You just know that we have your back, okay?

Jennifer: And my phone. 24-7, it's on. You know that.

Carly: I got it, I know it.

Jennifer: Okay.

Carly: I promise. Um, I have an appointment. Excuse me.

Jennifer: I can walk you out. That was good. That was the right thing to do. Confronting her like that. That was great. And she seems great, she just seems a lot more calm now.

Daniel: Yeah, yeah, she seems like it. Let's just hope she sticks to her word, lets us in on her problems. Both of us.

Jennifer: Right.

Daniel: Yeah. I mean, her welfare is something we have in common.

Jennifer: Yeah. Definitely. This is good. You know, we can--we can work together, both of us. For Carly.

Daniel: Yeah.

Sami: Thanks, um, thanks for not fighting me about the kids and everything.

EJ: Oh, no. Of course, of course. You're flying out of Salem?

Sami: Yeah.

EJ: Yeah.

Sami: Yeah, the kids are with my grandma right now, so I guess we gotta get going. I have a flight to catch. Um, please make sure to say "I'm sorry" to Taylor and Nicole for me.

EJ: Oh, no, of course I will. And thank you again. Oh, one more thing, Samantha. Just don't worry about an exact return date. Okay? Just call me.

Sami: Okay.

EJ: And, Samantha... it's going to be okay. Everything will work out for you.

Sami: Huh.

EJ: Samantha, it's going to be okay. Everything's going to work out fine.

Nicole: Uh...ahem. You just have to stay strong. Okay?

Rafe 2: Yeah.

Nicole: Oh.

Rafe 2: I know. I keep telling myself that. But, you know--

Nicole: Ooh.

Rafe 2: It's like--

Nicole: Aah.

Rafe 2: It's like you understand what I'm going through, you know? And frankly, I thought maybe you'd be happy that--that, uh, Sami dumped me. Um, 'cause, you know, we've never really gotten along.

Nicole: Oh. No, no, no way. Pain is pain, no matter who's feeling it. And try to remember, every marriage has problems.

Rafe 2: Yeah. You think?

Nicole: Yeah. I know. Look, you and Sami just need to take a little break and, you know, get things in the right perspective. You know? And you could have a little private R and R. Who knows, maybe--maybe this is a good thing.

Rafe 2: Yeah. Who knows, right?

Nicole: Yeah.

Rafe 2: Sometimes an opportunity comes along.

Nicole: Absolutely. And there's no sense spreading gossip around town. So we'll just make sure this stays our little secret, okay?

Rafe 2: If you say so. Sounds good to me.

Nicole: [Gasping]

On the next “Days of our Lives" --

EJ: Nobody has any idea of what we've done.

Nicole: I gotta find out what's going on.

Hope: There's something I have to tell you.
