Stefano: Samantha is beginning to crack because she believes her white knight has feet of clay. Excellent.
Rafe 2: Well, you told me to work fast. It's what I do.
Stefano: Are you sure that she is not suspicious of you?
Rafe 2: At the end of her rope? Yeah. But, no, she has no clue about what's really going on.
Stefano: Hmm. Uh, how soon do you think she's gonna be ready to push you out of her life permanently?
Rafe 2: Well, I think that's up to you and EJ.
Melanie: Hi, Henderson, is Philip here?
Philip: Mel. Hey. It's good to see you.
Melanie: You too. Um, I was--can I see Parker?
Brady: Did you serve my grandfather the papers yet? Why the hell not? You're re--you're researching the grounds? He screwed up my attempt to take over the Liberty Corporation. It's gonna cost Titan a couple million dollars and he had no business doing so 'cause he's not a board member. Those are your grounds.
Dario: Dude must be shaking in his loafers after hearing that.
Brady: [Chuckles] What are you doing here?
Dario: Getting a coffee. Same as you.
Brady: Thought you were leaving town, man.
Dario: Yeah, well, you thought wrong.
Brady: You know, Dario, you might want to rethink that decision or you might regret it.
Dario: Wait, that--that sounds like a threat.
Nicole: So let me get this straight. Um, you will forgive me for leaving you in the casket if I help you bring Kate down?
Vivian: Mm-hmm. And find out the big secret Stefano's hiding. You left that part out. Oh, I know you know something's going on. And I'm reasonably sure that you don't like Kate any better than I do.
Nicole: Well, she treats me like a hooker that EJ brought home. I'm crazy about the lady.
Vivian: Well, you see, we could be a really good team together. We could knock Kate and Stefano off their respective thrones and you and your handsome husband could replace them. What do you think? You in?
Rafe 2: Final breakup between Sami and me has got to go without a hitch. So you, EJ, and I, we all need to be on the same page.
Stefano: All right, I'll contact Elvis and, um, I'll set up the call.
Rafe 2: No, no, no. No phones. I'm sick of the phones. Let's do this face-to-face.
Rafe 2: Now.
Taylor: Feels muddy here.
EJ: Yeah. It's private.
Taylor: Hope you don't ruin your expensive shoes.
EJ: Look, um, I asked you to come here because there's something that I need to say to you.
Taylor: I've heard it all before, EJ. You can't think about anything but me. You want to be with me and you won't let this go.
EJ: Taylor, just... actually, that's where you're wrong.
Dario: Who the hell are you to threaten me?
Brady: I'm a friend of the woman that you tried to rip off.
Dario: Well, um, I also stole Gabi's earrings, but you didn't seem to care about that because it was part of the Hernandez family. That doesn't really bother you, huh?
Brady: You know, why don't you do everyone a favor and just go back to where you came from?
Dario: 'Cause I got business here.
Brady: I think your days as a jewel thief are over.
Dario: Then I'll just figure out some other way to find out who killed my sister.
Brady: Yeah, Melanie told me that was your story.
Dario: It's the truth.
Brady: Why don't you let the cops handle it?
Dario: I don't see the cops handling anything. Do you?
Brady: Why are you stirring all this up again? I don't get it.
Dario: Well, I figured since you weren't then I might as well.
Dario: You were engaged to Arianna. But you didn't believe in her, did you? Remember that? When the P.D. tried to blame her and arrest her for something that a cop did. Maybe that's why they don't care who killed her. And maybe that's why you don't care either.
Brady: Listen, punk, look in my eyes--look. You don't tell me how I feel about Arianna or the way she died, you got it?
Dario: I guess that's why it bothers you to have me here, huh? Me being here reminds you of what you did. And you know what, good. 'Cause I'm not going anywhere.
Vivian: So if I just had some inside information against Kate, I could use that to dislodge her from Stefano's life.
Nicole: Payback for Kate leaving you in the crypt?
Vivian: Exactly. And then I could use that against Stefano, which would pave the way for you and EJ to run the DiMera Empire.
Nicole: Wow. When you forgive someone, you really go all-out.
Vivian: So you want to start investigating Stefano immediately?
Nicole: I'm sorry, Vivian. I can't.
Vivian: What do you mean you can't? Why not?
Nicole: Did I say I can't? I mean "I won't."
Taylor: How exactly am I wrong?
EJ: If you knew what I was gonna talk to you about, then why did you agree to have this conversation in the first place?
Taylor: Because I have something I need to say too. EJ, this has to be the last conversation that you and I have about our feelings.
EJ: You're right.
Taylor: I am?
EJ: [Quietly] Yeah. I can see how much this hurts you, so it has to stop.
Brady: Don't you ever presume to know how I felt about your sister or what we went through. Here. You take that. You buy yourself another life somewhere else.
Dario: You got me all figured out, don't you? You know what, I'm not gonna get a new life. Not until I find my sister's killer and make that person pay.
Fay: I asked you before if EJ was having an affair, and now I want to know--is there something going on between you and EJ?
Delia: You haven't touched your breakfast.
Fay: I can't eat, Delia. I'm just too upset. I'm worried about my daughters. I need to talk to them right away.
Delia: Neither of them is here right now and you need to calm down.
Fay: The only thing that's gonna calm me down is if I talk to my daughters. Please, Delia. I need to talk to Nikki and Taylor right now. Please.
EJ: Look, I've done my best to try and convince you of the benefits of our being together. And, uh, you know, most people tell me I'm pretty persuasive. But, uh, you seem to have been able to resist my arguments. And, um... I admire that. I admire your integrity. And I admire your loyalty to your sister.
Taylor: You do?
EJ: I do. That's why I've decided that, um, I think it's best if I respect your wishes and I keep my distance.
Taylor: Which means what?
EJ: That means that I will... I will not pursue you anymore and I will just be your brother-in-law. I will be polite and courteous. And, uh, I won't hold any lingering looks. Or, um, I won't try and kiss you. I think this should probably be our last private conversation. That is what you want, right?
Stefano: This, um, sit-down has to be private. I should never have come to the hospital, you know. As a matter of fact, I should not be seen with you here now.
Rafe 2: No, no, no, we're cool, man. We're just talking about your grandkids, custody arrangements, all that crap.
Stefano: Don't be so glib. We're at the final moments of an operation that has to end up perfectly.
Rafe 2: "The final moment." Well, you got to admit, it sounds pretty awesome.
Stefano: [Chuckles] I must admit that, uh, I'm gonna miss your reports about your life with Samantha. You make me laugh.
Rafe 2: [Chuckles] Yeah, well, I can stop making you laugh in a heartbeat too. If I have to, you know. Just a little levity. A little joke.
Stefano: If I were you, I would not show me that side of your personality. You would not like what happens to you.
Melanie: You're so big.
Melanie: Well, I mean, you know. Hey, you. You get to see him every day so you don't--you don't notice. Is he smiling? Is he looking at his hand?
Philip: How did you know that?
Melanie: I read one of Chloe's books when I... uh... hey, look at me, big guy. Come here. Oh. How are you, handsome? Do you remember me? I was the first person you saw when you were born. Yeah. Bet you were thinking "I hope the rest of the world doesn't look as freaked out as this girl does." You're gonna have such a good life. Hmm. Your mom and dad are gonna see to that, yeah? Yeah. You will always be so special to me even if I don't get to see you very often. I loved you before you were even born. Even if things didn't work out the way they were supposed to. Just want you to know that. Here, I need you to... I need you to take him.
Philip: Yeah. Come here, big guy. Hi. Hi.
Melanie: [Crying] And I need you to take this too.
Philip: No, Mel, no, no.
Vivian: Why won't you help me?
Nicole: Well, because you're delusional. You--you--you act like getting Stefano and Kate is no big deal. Like scamming some poor widow out of her pension check or something.
Vivian: Oh, I see, you're turning me down because you're afraid of Stefano.
Nicole: Hell, yeah, I am. You saw the way he went off on me because I didn't know what Sami and Rafe were fighting about. Imagine--imagine his reaction if he finds out you're going after him.
Vivian: He already knows that.
Vivian: We had a little chat last night. He asked me to stop making inquiries about him.
Nicole: Really? And you're still going through with this?
Vivian: I am not afraid of him.
Nicole: Well, you should be. I mean, you might have hated being in that coffin while you were alive, but it sure as heck beats being in one when you're dead.
Vivian: Well, he may be a very formidable opponent, but I'm no slouch.
Nicole: Well, I'm not a gambler. But if I had to bet on who's going to win this war, my money's on Stefano.
Vivian: Mm-hmm? Well, you better start counting your losses.
Nicole: All right. Think of it this way: Stefano has a lot of enemies, right? Much like you do. But have any of them locked him in a sarcophagus? Right. Look, the Salem River is probably full of people who have tried to cross Stefano or the people that he loves. So let me just give you a little piece of advice, okay? And think of it as me making up for leaving you in a crypt, okay? If you value your life, I'd leave Kate alone.
Taylor: Is that some game you're playing?
EJ: It's not a game.
Taylor: You're just waiting for me to say "no, don't stay away" or "I didn't really mean it?"
EJ: If I'm honest, that... was one... scenario that I considered. But, uh... I really just forced myself to think beyond that and to consider what it would do to a person of your... integrity if, uh, you were to cave in to my advances. It surprised me that, uh, it actually made me really sad. And I realized that I had to let you go. Even though I've never had you. Because I... couldn't do that to somebody... that I love.
Taylor: You love me?
EJ: I have loved you... since the first moment that I laid my eyes on you. You were looking at me just the way you're looking at me right now. You won't find many people who say that I'm a good person. But, uh... I want to be a better person. I'm trying for you.
Taylor: Don't do it for me, EJ, please. Do it for my sister.
EJ: If making Nicole happy is what makes you happy, then I'll do it. But I'm doing it for you.
EJ: Taylor, I can't control the way that I feel, but I can control the way that I act. So... it hurts me to see you so miserable. And I know that you're not going to be happy if I'm a part of your life. So I think that's it, actually. I think we should go.
Taylor: Oh. Now?
EJ: Before my resolve breaks.
Brady: Yeah, listen, I want to move the meeting up. Make it this afternoon. And get a memo out to all the department heads that they have to bring their "a" game as far as budget cuts. We got to make a lot of them. All right. Hi, Mel.
Melanie: Hi. It's a coffee shop in the middle of the day. What is a business mogul doing here?
Brady: I do some of my mogul work by phone. How are you doing?
Melanie: Good. I'm just gonna get a cup of coffee. I have a lot of errands to run.
Brady: Mel, Mel, Mel, hey. What's wrong with you?
Fay: The doctors come back yet?
Delia: Not yet. Here. This will help you get some sleep.
Fay: Delia, you know I don't take sleeping pills during the day.
Delia: You said you had a bad night.
Fay: I don't want to be knocked out.
Delia: Take a nap, and when you wake up, your daughters will probably be home. Hmm? Go on.
Vivian: Thank you so much for your sage advice about Stefano. But the fact is I offered you a way out of the crosshairs and you laughed in my face. So after I finish with Kate, I'm coming after you.
Nicole: You already did that. You showed EJ the pictures of Brady and me.
Vivian: Oh, my God.
In flagrante. I actually tried to block that out of my mind because a certain nausea came up.
Nicole: Well, it didn't work, okay? And now, Vivian, I'm Mrs. EJ DiMera.
Vivian: Are you really naive enough to think that EJ's going to protect you from me? [Laughs] Maybe you are. I don't know. [Laughs] Oh, my God.
Taylor: Hey, Doc.
Lexie: Taylor. Hey.
Lexie: What are you doing here?
Taylor: Picking up the notes of the last hospital board meeting for Brady.
Lexie: Ah. Did your mom tell you I saw her yesterday?
Taylor: Yeah, she said you think her medication is really working.
Lexie: Mm-hmm. Yeah. I'm encouraged by her test results.
Taylor: That's wonderful.
Lexie: So, uh, let's see... you've got a great job working for a nice guy. Your mother's condition is improving. So what could you possibly be upset about?
Taylor: I'm not, Lexie. Okay, I am.
Lexie: What did EJ do now?
Taylor: He made me love him even more than I already did.
Stefano: Oh, where have you been? And why didn't you answer my calls?
EJ: I had some business that I needed to take care of.
Stefano: With Nicole's sister? I thought she didn't want to have anything to do with her anymore.
EJ: Well, I told her I'm going to leave her alone.
Stefano: Ah. I see. So you could warm her up so she would miss you.
EJ: No, father. I'm doing it because it's the right thing to do.
Stefano: Please. Please! The last time you did the right thing, Samantha Brady shared custody with my grandchildren.
EJ: Just do me a favor and stay out of this.
Stefano: What is it with you and this girl?
EJ: I'm trying to get my life back under control!
Stefano: Well, try to make it work because we are on the last part of our program with Samantha.
Rafe 2: Well, sounds like I got here just in time then.
Melanie: I thought it'd be a good idea to see Philip and Chloe's baby.
Melanie: I don't know. I guess I just wanted to tell him that I love him, but I can't be a part of his life.
Brady: You said that to a baby?
Melanie: Maybe to myself.
Brady: Maybe to Philip.
Melanie: Maybe. It's a lot harder than I thought it was gonna be.
Brady: I thought Chloe and Philip told you it would be okay for you to be a part of the kid's life.
Melanie: They did. How weird would that be? Especially in like five years. What do I tell the kid when he asks why I'm not with daddy?
Brady: I kind of get that.
Melanie: Somehow I don't really think I'm civilized enough to be aunt Melanie to the child my husband had with my father's wife.
Brady: God, they're stupid. How could they be so stupid? Why did they do this to you?
Melanie: I don't know. I'm supposed to be Miss Street Smart. Miss been around the block before.
Brady: All right, don't beat yourself up about it.
Melanie: Well, it's easier than feeling like a sucker. Or just dead inside. I just want to feel like myself again.
Brady: You got to let it go. You have no idea how beautiful it is to have a clear conscience.
Melanie: Are you talking about Arianna? Do you wish you would've done things differently with her?
Dario: You work with a lot of pigs, right?
Justin: Yeah, I do.
Dario: Well, can you recommend me one? A good one. The one I had before quit on me when he found out how I was coming up with the money to pay him.
Justin: Yeah, well, private investigators are expensive.
Dario: Look, I have this as a retainer.
Justin: Okay. Please tell me you came by that honestly.
Dario: Somebody gave it to me.
Dario: Dude has a guilty conscience.
Justin: Look, Dario, I admire what you're trying to do. Your sister was a very lovely woman and she should've had a long life.
Dario: You got that right.
Justin: But this case-- this case is pretty cold. I mean, it's gonna take a lot of man hours to find this driver and probably more money than what you got right there.
Dario: I can pay it. I have a job on the docks.
Justin: Good for you.
Dario: So you'll find me a name?
Justin: Let me do some thinking.
Dario: Okay. Thanks.
Justin: All right. Good luck.
Justin: Hey, Philip.
Philip: Thanks for meeting me.
Justin: Yeah. What's up?
Philip: It's about Melanie.
Vivian: How are those people working out that I hired to assist you?
Gus: Suppose I'll get used to them.
Vivian: Ugh. The nerve of Stefano calling me a "small-time operator." He'll find out what small-time is when his world comes crashing down around him. So, well, what do y'all have for me?
Gus: I'm sorry, Madam, but the new people you got to work with me have not found anything out yet on Stefano DiMera.
Vivian: What? Do you mean I'm going to have to fire you and all those underlings and start all over again?
Gus: Well, what I was about to say is that working on my own, I did come up with a piece of information that you might find rather useful.
Vivian: What is it?
Taylor: EJ told me he loves me.
Lexie: Oh, Taylor!
Taylor: But he's gonna stay away from me, Lexie, because I won't hurt my sister.
Lexie: And you really think he's gonna keep that promise?
Taylor: I do. You should've seen his face.
Lexie: Taylor, look, I love my brother, but loving him means knowing his flaws. EJ isn't big on self-sacrifice.
Taylor: So you think I'm being naive?
Lexie: Well, I have to wonder.
Taylor: If you'd seen his face, Lexie. He really doesn't want to hurt me. I know this now. He said that if he wore me down, that I wouldn't be me anymore. And that's really important to him and that he wants to be a better man for my sake.
Lexie: So what are you gonna do?
Taylor: Well, I can't hurt Nicole. Not just because I love her so much but because it would kill my mom. So I'm gonna do the only thing I can do... just move out of EJ's house and out of his life for good.
Rafe 2: So...this is it, fellas. Knockout punch.
EJ: I think we shouldn't be discussing this here.
Rafe 2: Hey, relax, okay? We're talking about the kid's custody or something.
EJ: A lot of people live in this house. Don't you forget that.
Stefano: All right, look, Nicole is out with the children. Taylor is at work. And I took the liberty of asking Nicole's mother's nurse to give her a sedative.
Rafe 2: You give his mother-in-law's nurse orders?
Stefano: Well, she's on my payroll.
Rafe 2: [Chuckles] That's beautiful.
Stefano: All right. And I told the rest of the staff to take the morning off. So we should not be disturbed here.
EJ: So what exactly is so urgent then, hmm? What's happening with Samantha?
Rafe 2: Ah. Well, I spent last night on the couch.
EJ: Uh-huh. And?
Rafe 2: And? What do you-- isn't that enough? Listen, all I'm here to do is ask you guys what you want me to do to end this relationship. To make the separation permanent.
EJ: You demand a meeting in my house. You swagger in here like you own the place. What exactly is it you're looking for, input or praise?
Rafe 2: Hey, you wait a minute here. I am doing exactly what you want me to do. I'm ending things with Sami and Rafe without arousing her suspicions, which ain't easy. Especially when all I get from you is pressure. Calling me on the phone. So all I'm doing now is asking you to make yourself useful... for once.
EJ: Do I need to remind you of what your life was like before you came here? Hmm?
Rafe 2: You threw me into the deep end of a pool. Before all the surgery, I had it completely even-keeled. Before I knew half of what I needed to know to make this work. But I'm making it work anyway. So get off of my back. Now, if anyone has screwed up here, it's you.
EJ: You think so?
Rafe 2: Yeah.
Vivian: This is just a sequence of numbers.
Gus: That's right. But if you punch it into the security system at the DiMera house, the doors will open.
Vivian: How did you do that?
Gus: Remember telling me to make friends with the DiMeras' housekeeper?
Vivian: Mary? Oh, please, don't tell me.
Gus: No. I have my limits. But I did follow her home last night. It was her regular bowling night. She's on a league.
Vivian: Oh, no.
Gus: And when she punched the code into the security system, I noticed something. The touch pad makes sounds. Each number corresponds to a different tone. And the tune made by the whole number system was familiar to me. It was the theme song of an old sitcom I used to watch. So I went home, got out my touch-tone phone, replicated the tune, wrote down the number sequence, and returned to the DiMera house. And when I punched the sequence into the security system, voila, the door opened.
Vivian: Oh, you are a genius.
Gus: I have my moments.
Melanie: I'm sorry, is it okay for me to ask about Arianna?
Brady: Yeah. Yeah, I've just been thinking a lot about her since I've been having these run-ins with her brother.
Melanie: Me too.
Brady: How did it all change so quickly? I mean, we were in love. Then we didn't trust each other. Then I felt like she was pushing me away.
Melanie: That's just the way it goes sometimes. I can never trust Philip again no matter what he says 'cause what he did, I see it every time I look in my dad's face when he doesn't know I'm watching. Every time I look at Parker. And that's never gonna change. You know, that's why I can't be with Philip. That's why I can't be in Parker's life.
Brady: You did the right thing, Melanie.
Brady: Yeah, you did.
Melanie: Because when I just saw Parker now, it almost killed me. You know, the baby's smell. The way he grabs your finger with his little hand. And I almost--I almost told Philip I'd go back with him just so I could be in Parker's life, but that's never gonna work.
Brady: Okay, stop, stop, stop.
Lexie: Do you want to move back in with Abe and me? Theo would love it.
Taylor: Yeah. Problem's coming up with why, Lexie. Nicole's making this big deal about mom and her and me all living under one roof. Being a family again.
Lexie: Can't you just say you want some privacy?
Taylor: Not with my mom being sick. She'd never buy it.
Lexie: [Sighs] I mean, what are you gonna do?
Taylor: I don't know. I think there's only one thing I can do: Tell the truth.
Lexie: [Sighs] You're going to tell Nicole that you're in love with EJ?
Taylor: And then I'm gonna leave forever.
Nicole: Uh, wait a second. Um, Marco took you to the shooting range?
Johnny: It was fun.
Nicole: Note to self: Talk to Marco. Well, my goodness, we can't go see great grandma with chocolate all over our faces, now can we? Let's wipe that up. There we go.
Johnny: Why can't we go back to mommy's?
Nicole: Your mommy might be a little late picking you up, okay? So that's cool with me though because I get to spend time with two of my favorite people in the world.
Johnny: What about daddy?
Nicole: Oh, you are so right, sir. I get to spend time with three of my favorite people in the world. And we are one, big, happy family, aren't we? Have some of that? Here we go. One more bite.
EJ: Do we need to remind you of who you work for?
Rafe 2: You want respect?
EJ: I want respect.
Rafe 2: You got to earn it.
Stefano: Enough! Enough! Damn it! Did you hear me? I'm serious. This mission is about over. All right? And everybody is getting what they want. Your next step is to convince Samantha that you two need a break from each other.
Rafe 2: Got it. How you had two kids with that woman--
Stefano: Quiet! And listen. In order for this to work, Samantha has to think that it is her idea.
Rafe 2: Got it.
Stefano: Keep it.
Rafe 2: Your dad's right, you know? You guys, you took me out of a bad place, helped me out. I want this to work as much as you.
Rafe 2: I mean, why not, right? I get to live out the rest of my life with this face, that big stack of money, and... listen, I'm sorry, okay? I was out of line.
Philip: Did you do what I asked?
Justin: I did. Are you, uh, really sure about this?
Philip: Yes. I broke her heart. I got to do something for her.
Justin: Well, you do know that this won't stop her hurting?
Philip: But it will make her life easier--give her a chance to start fresh.
Justin: Yeah, I'd say. $5 million plus what you already gave her in the settlement. Money is not going to be one of her problems.
Philip: Well, at least I can give her that. [Taps leg] Let's go.
Dario: Money's not gonna be a problem for me either, dudes. Wow. Five million bucks. That nurse Melanie's worth more than I thought.
Melanie: [Sniffs] I'm getting mascara on your jacket.
Brady: I don't care. Doesn't matter. You're gonna be all right. You know that?
Melanie: I hope so.
Brady: You know, there was a long period of time when I didn't see a lot of you and I'm glad that's over.
Melanie: Me too, because I really need a friend right now.
Brady: I got that covered.
Taylor: Hey. Thanks for meeting me.
Nicole: Sure. I was already here. I brought Johnny and Sydney up to see their great grandma. You can go up and see them if you want.
Taylor: Oh, no, that's okay.
Nicole: So what's going on?
Taylor: I have something to tell you, Nikki. And it can't wait.
EJ: My apologies. It's been a difficult day. I'm pretty sure we're all under a great deal of stress.
Stefano: Ah. All right. Here you go.
EJ: Thank you.
Stefano: All right. The stakes are higher than ever. Especially now that our endgame with Samantha is at hand. Salud.
Rafe 2: [Silent]
EJ: And to you. Doing an extraordinary job of convincing Samantha and the children you were really Rafe.
Rafe 2: Yeah, well, I better be good at doing him. I'm gonna be him for the rest of my life.
EJ: And no one will be any the wiser.
Rafe 2: Yeah. Some models look so mad.
On the next “Days of our Lives" --
Hope: What do you mean you can't find the kids?
Nicole: Did something happen?
Rafe 2: You need to stop lying to me.
