Sami: Gabi thinks he's just frustrated, and confused, and impatient, and that he just hasn't recovered yet.
Carly: But you think...
Sami: Well, I mean, I think all that too. You know, obviously he's frustrated. But I don't know. There's something else going on too. Like I said, he's not Rafe. He's a stranger, and one I don't like very much.
Maggie: [Sighs] [Exhales]
Victor: Maggie? Nice to hear from you.
Victor: Maggie, it is you, isn't it?
Maggie: Mm, yes, it's me.
Victor: Well, what can I do for you?
Maggie: Nothing! Heh. Well, that went well.
Victor: That went well.
Abby: [Gasps] Barcelona?
Gabi: Yeah, of course, I would love to go to Barcelona.
Abby: Well, they have a ton of great hostels there.
Abby: Hey, Chad.
Chad: Whoo! I, um... yeah, I... do you wanna watch this for a sec? I just, uh, I'm gonna grab some air.
Melanie: Did you really just say I should be ashamed of myself?
Dario: That's right.
Melanie: I love being judged by--what's the term-- a petty thief.
Dario: I would do anything or steal anything to figure out who killed my sister. But you, you say you were her friend, and you did nothing.
Sami: I know what you're thinking.
Carly: And that would be?
Sami: That I'm a fair-weather wife, that I can't stand by my man, that the second Rafe has problems I'm backing out.
Carly: Sami, no, I think that's what you're thinking. I think you feel guilty and that you need to accept all these changes that are happening to Rafe.
Sami: Well, aren't I supposed to do that?
Carly: No, you're not supposed to do that. Okay, if you're this concerned and upset, there's probably a real problem. I'm gonna rerun the tests that I've already done, then I'm gonna throw in a few new ones for good measure. How's that? Listen to me. You love him. You want what's best for him. Which tells me I think you're right. Something is wrong.
Rafe 2: Oh, man. Ugh. How the hell am I gonna get out of this one?
Abby: I can't quite figure out why the Salem U Web Site should totally freak him out.
Chad: [Exhales] I am so sorry. I know that was weird.
Abby: What's going on?
Chad: Well, I'm behind on my tuition, right, so I went online to check out my late fees, and they were already paid.
Abby: Oh! What a nice surprise.
Chad: Oh, it gets better than that. And I think I know who did it.
Abby: And that's what freaked you out?
Melanie: I should be ashamed because I didn't try and find the hit-and-run driver that killed Arianna?
Dario: You should be ashamed to keep saying you were her friend when you weren't. Living your fat, rich life like nothing ever happened.
Melanie: Have you ever heard of an organization called the police? You know, where your brother works--where her brother worked? So, I didn't make like Nancy Drew. That means she wasn't my friend? She never even mentioned you. I guess she wouldn't have wanted anybody to know she had an arrogant, judgmental son of a bitch for a brother!
Sami: Of course I feel guilty. He keeps telling me that I'm putting pressure on him, trying to make him be someone he's not.
Carly: Look, I don't know him that well, but that doesn't sound like him to me either. I just wanna rule out that there isn't a medical problem, okay? And if I don't see anything on his next MRI, then maybe we should order a psychiatric work-up. But there's paperwork for that, too, so we're gonna need his signature again.
Sami: Look, thank you. Dr. Manning, thank you for taking me seriously.
Carly: Sami, I do.
Sami: And you know what? You gotta know that I'm not gonna give up. I'm not gonna stop until I get Rafe back... for real.
Carly: Come with me. Come on.
Stefano: [Exhales] What the hell have you done now?
Victor: I, uh, think we were cut off.
Maggie: Um... I hung up on you.
Victor: You called me, and then you hung up on me. I think you're conflicted.
Maggie: Okay, a hint-- this would be a really good time for you not to be a smart elec.
Victor: Well, Maggie, it's nice to hear from you.
Maggie: [Sighs] [Whispering] Are you sure about this? Oh, I was just wondering... if you were free this afternoon and you would like to join me at Chez Rouge for lunch.
Victor: Well, that sounds very nice.
Maggie: Good. 'Cause I have someone I'd like you to meet.
Chloe: Well, thank you so much. Um, I'm gonna have to think about it, but I'll get back to you soon, I promise. Thank you. Mm-hmm, bye.
Philip: Good news?
Chloe: Well, flattering news at least. Uh, the Seattle Opera Company just offered me a role in their next production.
Philip: Oh, that's great! When do you have to leave?
Chloe: Uh, they want me there next week.
Philip: Chloe, I'm so happy for you. I'm gonna miss you, but you totally deserve this. Well, is it a good part?
Chloe: It's a great role. But I'm not gonna do it. I can't.
Chad: Not to worry. I won't bother you again. Jerk.
Abby: Your dad?
Chad: No, the guy I thought was my dad, the esteemed District Attorney Woods. What an idiot I am!
Abby: You thought he paid your tuition?
Chad: Like the man has any human impulses. Like, even if he did forgive me, which I know he won't, he never spent a dime on me.
Abby: Hmm. Fathers.
Chad: Yeah, well, I really love how his moral stances always seem to end up saving him money.
Chad: "You're a bad person, so I get to keep all the dough."
Abby: Uh, please don't distract me while I gaze into my navel and blog about it.
Chad: [Laughs] You get it, don't you?
Abby: Oh, yeah. I get it.
Dario: What is it about you and your need to attack me?
Melanie: I guess that's my reaction to smug and dumb.
Dario: Yeah, I'm crazy about you too.
Melanie: Look... I know how I felt when I lost my friend Arianna. Okay, so, I have--I have some idea of what it felt like for you to lose your sister. But what I don't understand is why you feel like you need to take it out on me.
Dario: Not only you. On anyone who didn't do anything about the guy who killed her.
Melanie: Nobody killed her. It was an accident. She ran into the street.
Dario: And he--he runs her over and then just drives off? He has to pay.
Melanie: Police are looking for him.
Dario: They're doing nothing. She worked for them. Her brother's a cop, and he's doing nothing. They're doing nothing.
Melanie: Then this is a conversation you need to have with him.
Sami: I feel kind of guilty, uh, encouraging you to run more tests, since I know Rafe doesn't want to do more tests.
Carly: Well, then don't go behind his back. Talk to him. I'll talk to him. We'll just convince him that it's what's good for him.
Gabi: Sami, hey.
Sami: Hey, uh, Gabi, uh, I need to talk to you about something.
Gabi: Oh. Is Dario in trouble again?
Sami: No. No, it's not about Dario. It's, uh, Rafe. Look, I--I don't know how to say this, so, um, he had a seizure. Um, he's here. He's at the hospital.
Rafe 2: Well, I had to do something. Hernandez's brother showed up, and Sami went behind my back and invited him to stay at my place. Made me mad.
Stefano: So, you are in the hospital because you got mad.
Rafe 2: Uh... I threw a coffee cup against the wall, and I had to justify what I did, so I kind of, uh...
Stefano: Kind of what?
Rafe 2: Pretended to have a seizure.
Rafe 2: Well, it gets worse. The doctor who's taking care of Rafe knows Rafe, and she knows stuff that neither you nor EJ told me about.
Stefano: I heard that doctor talking to Samantha, and she said that there's something wrong with you. You are not acting like you usually do.
Rafe 2: Okay. So, what do we do now?
Stefano: We pull the plug on the whole operation.
Rafe 2: Oh, no.
Stefano: Excuse me?
Rafe 2: I said no. That is not an option.
Philip: You're turning it down? Seattle Opera. You're always raving about their productions.
Chloe: Well, yeah, they're wonderful, but...
Philip: Parker. Chloe, I'd bring him to visit you all the time.
Chloe: I know, but I don't wanna visit my son. I wanna raise him.
Philip: Well... what if Child Services decides not to let you have him after all? You'd have given up a job for nothing.
Chloe: It wouldn't be for nothing. Philip, I promised you that I wasn't going anywhere, but I didn't just make that promise to you. I made it to him too. I am never leaving him ever again.
Dario: I'm not talking to my brother about this because there's no point in it. He doesn't care.
Melanie: You know what? You're right. You're the only one that cares. You're the only one who's grieving, you're the one with all the answers. I guess when Rafe fell apart at her memorial, that was fake, right? We tried to keep it together for your guys' sister. That was fake too. [Laughs] And you know what? When Rafe made the decision to give Arianna's heart to a dying girl, that must've been pretty easy since she didn't matter to him, right? But you know all this. You know all this, except-- except you don't, because you weren't there!
Dario: I should've been. Things would've been a hell of a lot different if--if I were.
Melanie: And that's somebody else's fault, right? It's not that you're the mistake of the family, or that you're so wrapped up in yourself and whatever's going on in your life that you didn't care about Arianna. She was nothing to you when she was alive, but dead, you're the man, right? You know what else...Dario? Those of us that were there had to deal with feeling helpless. But not you. You had to go steal a bunch of jewelry and then point your finger at everybody else, and to me, that makes you so much worse than the rest of us.
Chad: Well, I solved that mystery. I called the Bursar's office, and they said that I won a scholarship.
Abby: That's great!
Chad: Oh, it's better than that. It's freaking unbelievable.
Abby: How so?
Chad: Well, let me tell you what I won. See, it's a special scholarship, because you don't have to apply for it. It's not for any particular field of study, there aren't any academic considerations. And apparently, the only requirement is that you were sired by Stefano DiMera.
Chad: I just won the Stefano DiMera Scholarship for Illegitimate Studies. Great.
Abby: Well, I guess that kind of means he's ready to be your dad.
Chad: But it slides over the question of whether or not I'm ready to be his son.
Abby: You think there are strings attached?
Chad: Oh, with him? How could that be?
Abby: But he did try and do it anonymously.
Chad: And didn't he cover his tracks well. I knew it was him in, like, three minutes, all right? He wants me to know it was him. Puts the ball in my court.
Abby: You sound mad.
Chad: I just... I feel like he's trying to buy me.
Abby: So, you're going to turn it down.
Chad: Well, I want to. I just don't like him thinking people are for sale.
Abby: Well, I'm sticking my nose in your business, so here it goes. Before you do anything, why don't you talk to him? Make sure you know what's really going on.
Stefano: Don't you ever, ever use the imperative with me. Don't you ever tell me what my options are.
Rafe 2: Uh, I-- I just meant that, uh, the seizure--the seizure thing worked. Uh, it did. It's--it's gonna be okay.
Stefano: It did not. I heard Samantha talking to the doctor, all right? Now, she is getting closer and closer to the truth. So, the longer we go on with this, the more risk there is.
Rafe 2: Then we'll just wait till I have a clean bill of health. I'm really close. Uh, I'm telling ya, you give me a week, Sami will be begging for that divorce.
Stefano: No, no, no, no, no, no. Your seizure did not work. All it did was make things worse. All right, look. Let me put this in language that you understand. You screwed up big time. And anybody who works for me and screws up, they pay.
Rafe 2: Well, I'll fix it. Uh, I--I can make this better. I promise.
Stefano: How do I know that?
Rafe 2: Because I know how to take care of Sami.
Sami: So now you're throwing things?
Rafe 2: Whatever. I'm never gonna be the guy that you want me to be, so why don't you just face it? Leave me the hell alone.
Sami: Great. What's gonna happen when I tell him he needs more tests? Your soup and sandwich combo. Enjoy.
Maggie: This is '91. It's supposed to be a very good year.
Victor: This table is set for two. This is a private dining room.
Maggie: Yes, it is.
Victor: You said you wanted me to meet someone.
Maggie: I did.
Victor: Damn it, Maggie, this is lunch under false pretenses. I said I wanted to come down here and have lunch with you, not some stupid fix-up.
Maggie: Victor, what I'm--
Victor: I am not lonely. I do not need luncheon companions, and I certainly don't need to make small talk with some old dame about her precious Lhasa Apso and her last trip to the malls of America.
Maggie: Don't you ever shut up ever? The person I wanted you to meet...was me.
Chloe: Philip, it means the world to me that you let me have some alone time with him this morning, that you trust me.
Philip: You know I do. And you can stay with me and my family as long as you like.
Chloe: Mm, I must simply thrill Victor. Seriously, I--I need to prove to the Social Worker and to myself that I can take care of myself and the baby... on my own.
Philip: But you're not on your own. I'm here.
Chloe: I know that. I really do. But I--I've gotta change. I--I can't float through life like I've been doing. I've gotta get a job so that I can stay here in Salem and spend quality time with Parker.
Philip: Any ideas?
Chloe: Mm-hmm. I'll give voice lessons. I already posted an ad online, and I put a flyer up at Salem U's music department.
Philip: Good for you.
Chloe: Well, what I need to be is good for him.
Stefano: You know exactly how to handle Samantha?
Rafe 2: [Laughs] Yeah, that's right. I mean, she may have that dweeb husband of hers under her thumb, but not me, this guy. Mm-mm.
Stefano: Good God.
Rafe 2: What?
Stefano: She's gotten to you too.
Rafe 2: Well... [Laughs] As if. Come on, I'd never have anything to do with a woman like that.
Stefano: Mm, that's exactly what Elvis says when he's not in a relationship with her. Now, you listen to me, all right? You are here to follow my orders. All right?
Rafe 2: Okay.
Stefano: Now, you do not improvise or anything like that. And above all, don't try to best her. Just follow my orders.
Rafe 2: Okay.
Stefano: All right, now, look, I've got to go. [Exhales] Don't fight the tests, mm?
Rafe 2: All right.
Stefano: Just do exactly what Hernandez would do.
Dario: You know, why don't you just go? There's no point in talking to you anyway.
Melanie: Telling me to go. That's code for I'm right.
Gabi: Hi, uh, Rafe is in the hospital. He's had some kind of seizure.
Gabi: Yeah, Sami just called me. I'm on the way to the hospital right now.
Dario: Okay, okay, I'll be right down.
Melanie: What's wrong?
Dario: None of your business.
[Door slams shut]
Rafe 2: Hey. What, am I dying? You guys look pretty grim.
Sami: No, uh, no. It just, um, Dr. Manning and I were talking, and, well, we wanna run something by you, but I just know it's probably gonna make you angry, and...
Rafe 2: Well, just say it.
Sami: [Sighs] Okay, Dr. Manning and I, we...
Carly: I wanna repeat some of the tests that we've already done, and then I want to do a few more.
Sami: And I agree with her, and I hope you do too.
Rafe 2: Sami... I need to talk to you. Alone. Hey! You're gonna wash the deck.
Victor: So, we're going to have lunch... and you wanted me to meet you, although I thought I already had. And you aren't going to talk.
Maggie: It's hard.
Victor: [Clears throat] Try.
Maggie: [Sighs] Remember when you got me out of the sarcophagus?
Maggie: [Clears throat] Well, I realized today that you've been trying to do that all year.
Victor: I-I don't understand.
Maggie: When Mickey died, I wanted to go with him... or at least lie down and just give up. And you simply wouldn't let me. You kept pulling me back into life... out of the damn coffin.
Victor: You did that all by yourself, all on your own. All I did was watch.
Maggie: I'm not that person anymore. And more than anyone in this world...I think you have a right to know that.
Chloe: I appreciate your meeting me here.
Justin: Mm-hmm. I take it you got the divorce papers.
Chloe: I did. [Sighs] I read them, and, uh, well...
Justin: Is there a problem?
Chloe: Yeah, there is.
Stefano: So, to what do I owe the pleasure of this visit?
Chad: Thought I'd swing by and share some good news with you.
Chad: I was just awarded a scholarship.
Stefano: Well, that is good news.
Stefano: You know, we must never underestimate how important an education is in these difficult times.
Chad: Is that why you set it up?
Stefano: [Chuckles] You think I am behind this, huh?
Chad: You bought my mother. Maybe you wanna try and buy me.
Stefano: [Exhales] I can understand why you might want to provoke me, but I think that we should respect your mother's memory. She did earn it.
Chad: You're right. I just wanna know what this... scholarship entails. I mean, what am I signing up for if I take it?
Stefano: Well, shouldn't you talk to the school about that?
Chad: It's not gonna be like one of those ROTC programs, is it? I'm not gonna owe the DiMera family a couple years of service after I graduate...
Stefano: [Laughs] Oh, I like that you think like your mother, and you have her shrewd mind. [Laughs] Well, anyway...[Clears throat] Humor me, hmm? Let's finish our conversation over a game of chess.
Chad: Ah, well, you think that's gonna bond us, make us more like father and son?
Stefano: No. What it is going to do is to make you know exactly who you are dealing with here.
Sami: You're mad, aren't you? You're mad because you don't wanna do more tests, but, Rafe--
Rafe 2: No, Sami, Sami, Sami. The tests? Whatever you think is best. That's not what I wanted to talk about. I wanted to say...I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Uh... I don't know why I lost it. Uh, I hate that, and I hate that I can't remember what happened.
Sami: Why you need to take more tests.
Rafe 2: Whatever you think is best. I don't know why I freaked out on you so much about my brother. Why I got so mad about you offering him a place to stay, for him to come live with us. I should've thanked you.
Sami: For making a huge decision without consulting you? You're welcome.
Rafe 2: [Laughs] See, that's--that's a joke. I like that. We've gotten way too serious. Oh, Sami. I'm scared. I don't know why I freak out all the time.
Sami: Rafe, we're gonna find a way to fix it, okay?
Rafe 2: Okay.
Sami: We're gonna figure out what's wrong, and we're gonna fix it.
Rafe 2: I know.
Maggie: Remember when you told me I wasn't being completely honest? You were right.
Victor: When I said you weren't being completely honest, I was being a condescending jerk.
Maggie: Well, that's true. Remember being young and stupid?
Victor: Oh! Like it was yesterday.
Maggie: Some boy smiles and...all common sense just flies out the window.
Victor: Some redhead turns you down, you don't sleep for a week.
Maggie: Around you... I feel young and stupid... and mixed up, and angry, and happy, and scared, and curious. I can't help it. Around you, I feel alive! [Laughs] Mickey would be so furious with me if I turned my back on that.
Victor: Are--are you saying--
Maggie: It's hard to fend you off, Victor. I've tried. I-I-I think this lunch was my way of saying... that I'm giving up trying. Well, aren't you gonna say anything?
Victor: I can't.
Maggie: You can't? [Chuckles] Well, I'll be damned.
Justin: Look, Chloe, I know you expect me to say this as Daniel's attorney, but I really mean it. Daniel's offer is very generous. I mean, there's not a judge in the world that would give you more.
Chloe: I don't want more money from Daniel. I don't want any.
Justin: Oh. I didn't expect that.
Chloe: I ruined his life. I don't wanna take money from him.
Justin: Okay. Well, I'll tell him what you said, but I think he'll insist on providing some sort of support for you.
Chloe: Well, tell him that I'll just give the money away to charity or something. Look, he was a really wonderful husband, and I put him through hell. I just--I think it's better if we have a clean break and we both just have a fresh start.
Justin: Are you sure you don't wanna take some time to think about this?
Chloe: I'm sure. I have to stand on my own... for Parker's sake.
Melanie: You've gotten so big!
Philip: Melanie... it's not too late. You can still be a part of his life.
Melanie: It is too late. Um, that's, uh, why I wanted to see you. We have to move on with the divorce.
Chad: So... are we bonding yet?
Stefano: I think that's up to you. But, you know...[Clears throat] We could play this game more often. As a matter of fact, if you move in here, we could play it anytime you feel like it.
Chad: And if I say no?
Stefano: That's your decision. Maybe the scholarship people can afford to get you a dorm room.
Chad: Well, you would know. [Sighs] Actually, I thought I'd lose the scholarship if I didn't move in.
Stefano: Hmm. That would be manipulation. Hey, I deplore manipulation.
Chad: Oh, yeah. Everyone says that about you.
Stefano: Hmm. Um, when you move in here, I wanna make sure that it is your choice, completely your choice.
Chad: Mm. When?
Stefano: I usually get my way in the end.
Chad: Really? Checkmate.
Gabi: Hey, what did the doctor say? Is he okay?
Sami: Yeah. Hi. He's awake, he's fine, he's talking, but, um, you know, the doctor wants to run some more tests.
Dario: Look, Sami, I'm really sorry for freaking him out. You know, just--just tell him I'll move out, okay?
Sami: No, Dario, it's okay. He doesn't even remember getting upset. And now he's calm. We talked about it, and he's really okay with you staying.
Dario: Wait, he- he doesn't remember?
Gabi: That's really weird.
Sami: Yeah. And I think that's why Dr. Manning wants to run more tests.
Dario: But they didn't find anything the first time around, right?
Sami: She just wants to be sure, so she's gonna run the tests again.
Dario: What if they don't find anything this time? What then?
Sami: I don't wanna think about that.
Maggie: Victor? Do you need a handkerchief?
Victor: [Laughs] No. No, I'm happy. Well, what you said makes me happy, and I don't give a damn if--if I'm a little emotional about it.
Maggie: [Laughs] Right.
Victor: A nice person wouldn't needle me.
Maggie: No, she wouldn't. And you can trust me. I won't tell Brady or Philip, uh, Henderson and Kate... that you aren't really as tough as you seem.
Victor: You really enjoy torturing me, don't you?
Maggie: I do! I really do. [Laughs] I'm so happy, too, Victor! I like looking forward, wondering what's gonna happen.
Victor: Well, I can tell you one thing that's going to happen. We are going to have fun!
Maggie: [Laughs] I think you're right!
Victor: I think this deserves a toast, don't you think?
Maggie: Well, if this doesn't, nothing does. Oh! Thank you.
Victor: To Maggie Horton, woman of my dreams.
Maggie: Um, no, Victor. Don't toast me. To us... and the future.
Justin: I, um, hope you don't mind me saying this, but after everything you've been through...you seem in... good shape. And I'm glad.
Chloe: Thank you. Well, Philip has been a huge help.
Chloe: Yeah. I guess he is the one person in the world who understood how awful I felt. I mean, he screwed up almost as badly as I did. And he loves Melanie as much as I love Daniel.
Philip: [Sighs] I won't make this harder for you by trying to change your mind.
Melanie: Thank you.
Philip: Because I love you, and I always will.
Melanie: You're not gonna fight the divorce?
Philip: Un-uh. No, it's whatever you want. And I hope one day you'll be happy again with someone who loves you as you deserve to be loved.
Melanie: I want that for you too.
Stefano: Congratulations! Well played, well played.
Chad: I knew I was gonna win when you took my pawn on the third move.
Chad: You knew I was gonna win before I even sat down.
Stefano: You can't be too sure of that.
Chad: You said playing against you, I'll find out who I'm up against. And I did. You are a formidable opponent.
Stefano: As are you. And you are gonna be a wonderful addition to this family.
Chad: [Chuckles] You're still convinced you're gonna win in the long run.
Stefano: Chad... you are family. You are a DiMera, no matter how much you try to deny it.
Rafe 2: Thanks a lot for being here, guys. I guess Sami told you. I don't know why I acted the way I did. And maybe the tests will tell us why, but it wasn't me. It wasn't me talking. I'm glad you're here. And, uh, and you're my bro. I want you to stay with us.
Sami: So, once again, everything looks like it's back to normal. But it's not. And I know it's not. Something is off. I'm not gonna rest until I get Rafe back.
On the next “Days of our Lives" --
Carly: Okay, Rafe, what the hell's going on with you? What? No, that can't be right.
Taylor: So far you've acted like a total Kiriakis.
Carly: There's a really strange discrepancy.
Stefano: She knows that something is off. I'm really sorry.
