Chad: Mrs. DiMera. Uh, hi.
Kate: Just the stepson I wanted to see.
Abby: Okay, want to know the latest on good old dad? He hasn't updated his blog. Or checked it even as far as I can tell. Plus, I talked to J.J., and he hasn't heard squat either. Nice, huh?
Jennifer: You know what? I'm not surprised. I'm gonna get the rest of my stitches taken out. So I'll be back in a little bit, okay?
Abby: Oh! Is Dr. Hunk going to be taking them out?
Jennifer: No, my appointment is not with Dr. Jonas.
Abby: Bummer. I mean, if dad wants to play M.I.A. all the time, then maybe you should have Dr. Dan give you A... thorough examination.
Nathan: No, as in, I can't marry your daughter?
Daniel: You know, Nathan, we need to get real here. You're not asking for my permission. You don't need it, neither does Melanie. But what you are asking me, is for my blessing.
Daniel: And hoping that maybe, you know, I'll talk to Melanie. Put in a good word for you when I see her. But that, uh, that is not gonna happen.
Nathan: Why not? Daniel, I just told you that I love her. She loves me.
Daniel: Right, yeah, but now's not the time for her to make a big decision.
Nathan: We've been kept apart for so long.
Daniel: Okay, if you love her as much as you say you do, you will back off and give her some space.
Carly: You wanna see Nathan?
Melanie: Yeah. I wanna talk to him face-to-face.
Carly: Right, right. Um, could I offer some advice?
Melanie: What, like, don't do it?
Carly: Maybe not just yet.
Carly: Because you've been through a lot. More than your share of heartache and betrayal and loss. Just do yourself a favor. Don't make any decisions about your future right now. Just wait for time to tell you what comes next. So you can be sure.
Melanie: I've never been more sure of anything else in my entire life.
Taylor: You don't spy much, do you?
EJ: I beg your pardon?
Taylor: Very bad at it.
EJ: The only reason I came here is to get a cookie for my daughter.
Taylor: Hm, well the cookies would be over there. Not on my computer screen.
EJ: Right. Look, I wasn't spying. But I couldn't help noticing you're looking at apartment listings.
Taylor: Yes, I am. Oh, wait. Since you think you can tell me where to work, maybe you think you can tell me where to live, too?
EJ: I'm sorry if I gave you that impression. Forgive me.
Bo: Hey, look who's here.
Hope: Hey, hi. I. Um, figured if you couldn't join me for lunch, I thought the least I could do was bring you a meal. Fit for a king.
Bo: Thank you. Well, let's see. What does a king have for lunch?
Hope: Well, I don't want you to be disappointed. It's really just the leftovers--
Hope: From last night, the meatloaf.
Hope: Aah, ooh, aah, hmm. You said you liked it.
Hope: Yeah, so I made you a sandwich. And I tried to jazz it up a little with--
Bo: A little ketchup?
Hope: A little ketchup, yeah.
Hope: But there were grapes in there as well.
Hope: Seedless, um--
Bo: Thanks, thank you.
Hope: I thought you need the anti-oxidants for dessert. Yeah.
Bo: But you're not so great.
Bo: Come on. Talk to me, tell me what's wrong.
Nathan: Okay, I get that you wanna protect your daughter.
Daniel: Yeah, you're damn right I do.
Nathan: But... my mind's made up. Okay? I love your daughter, and I'm gonna ask her to marry me.
Daniel: Okay, Nathan... she's fragile right now, she's in a hospital bed. You know, she hasn't even filed for divorce yet? Just lost a baby, by the way. So there is no way you can just go stomping in there and telling her, "you know what? It's time for us to get married."
Nathan: Look, I'm not gonna force her, Daniel.
Daniel: No, you're not.
Nathan: No, I'm not. What do you want me to do? You want me to just sit around and wait?
Daniel: Why would that be so terrible?
Nathan: Because it would. Considering everything that Melanie and I have been through. It would. All right, I've already second-guessed myself. I've hesitated, and that was wrong. I've waited long enough. I even tried to find somebody else. I've been sitting around saying, "hey, you know, wait for her to give the signal." But guess where that has gotten us. Nowhere. Dead and nowhere, and I'm done waiting. All right, I'm gonna go and I'm gonna make this happen.
Carly: Sweetheart, I'm not gonna tell you not to see Nathan. And you may be glad that your mom is sitting here right now. But if I start to get bossy with you--
Melanie: Hey, no. You get to have an opinion.
Carly: No, and I appreciate that, but I--
Melanie: Do you think I'm too weak?
Carly: No. No, I didn't say that. I just want you to go easy right now. Okay? You've been through a really difficult time. How about you just concentrate on you for a little while?
Melanie: That's what I'm doing. That's why I need to tell Nathan what I want. You know, what our future needs to be.
Taylor: So is this your nice side?
EJ: Yeah. Maybe it is.
Taylor: Hm. Last time I saw you, you were raging at me because I got--
EJ: I wasn't raging about anything.
Taylor: Hey, don't get me wrong. I appreciate the change in attitude. Problem is, when do you turn back into that other guy?
EJ: Oh, I'm sorry if I offended you on the grounds-- I sound like I'm groveling in front of a judge. I've just never been able to quite get things right with you, do I? Were... oh, no, I hate this.
Taylor: Oh, you hate being around me?
EJ: No, that's not what I said. What I'm saying--you know? Just forget what I'm saying. I have a daughter, and a wife, for that matter, waiting for me at home. And you need to find somewhere to live and a job.
Taylor: Oh, I have a job. Took Brady's offer at Titan.
EJ: I thought we settled that.
Taylor: There are a lot of things between us that aren't settled, EJ.
Bo: So... what else have you been up to today?
Hope: Oh, what have I been doing? Well, I went through Ciara's closet. She's outgrown a lot of things.
Bo: Aah. So you can go shopping.
Hope: Shopping, yeah. Favorite thing.
Bo: What else?
Hope: Uh, how else have I been spending my day? Uh, let's see. Well, I saw Julie. We got together, we had coffee. She worked on a few ideas, trying to get me back in the swing of things, you know.
Hope: Yeah. No, not so great, actually. Nothing came of it.
Bo: Well, I'm not worried. You'll come up with something to do in your spare time.
Hope: Yeah, of course. Absolutely. I'm gonna be fine.
Abby: Mom, please. You need to chill. It was a joke, okay? It's just...I think you're lonely. I know you are. And Dr. Jonas, well, he seems lonely too.
Jennifer: You know what? You're really making assumptions here.
Abby: Mom... you cannot keep pining away over a guy who turns his back on you.
Jennifer: First of all, I'm not pining. And second of all, the guy that you're talking about is your father.
Abby: Who's gone. Again.
Jennifer: Okay. But just because he isn't here right now, doesn't mean I'm
gonna throw myself at
Dr. Jonas, or any other man for that matter. And besides, you know what? I have a little plan. I am trying to get Dr. Jonas and Carly closer together.
Abby: Oh, brother.
Jennifer: Yes, they have a child together. And they are warm, wonderful people. So this is a good thing. And it's gonna work. You'll see. Bye.
Abby: You have got to take care of you. And stop trying to make other people happy all the time. And you, Mr. Walkabout. You need to stop being such a jackass.
Chad: Kate, I think maybe we should just get to it, okay? I mean, you look good. I look good. The weather's a little nippy out, and it might rain tomorrow. Is there a point you wanted to make?
Kate: You know, you have quite an attitude there, Chad.
Chad: Yeah, well, maybe if you were me, you'd have one too.
Kate: I did. When I was your age. And I had a chip on my shoulder the size of Manhattan.
Kate: So, to get to my point. Your father, my husband, is a very proud man. He's reached out to you, you haven't reached out to him. How about calling, what about stopping by for a visit?
Chad: All right, look. It's gonna take a little time, all right? I'm taking my time with this. I'm getting to know my sister a little. And she happens to be a great person, by the way.
Kate: Huh! Hmm. Lexie, yes. She is, she's a nice person.
Chad: And I'm getting to know my brother a little, too. Verdict's still out on EJ. Although he's been trying. And as for the kids... I mean, who doesn't love Johnny and Sydney, right?
Kate: Right. Well, Chad, that sounds really promising.
Chad: Yeah, I guess. Anyway, once I feel comfortable with them, I'll see about Stefano. Or should I call him father? Pop. Dad.
Kate: You know, actually, whatever you call him... you just better do it soon.
Chad: And why is that?
Kate: Because your father's not well.
Carly: Okay. Above all, know this. Whatever you decide about your future with Nathan, I will back you 100%.
Melanie: That means so much to me.
Carly: I'll tell Nathan you want to see him.
Melanie: Thank you.
Carly: I love you.
Melanie: I love you, too.
Daniel: You know, I'm having a hard time figuring out why you even want to talk to me. Now.
Nathan: I guess you're right, I guess I just wanted your blessing.
Daniel: Hm, and I told you, "no, don't do it."
Nathan: And I'm sorry, I really am. Listen, it's time for me to start following my heart.
[Cell phone ringing]
Nathan: And the waiting has to end at some time.
[Cell phone ringing]
Nathan: My heart says it's right now.
Daniel: Yeah, even if that's not what's best for Melanie.
Nathan: Carly just texted me. She said that Melanie wants to see me right away.
Gabi: It's really nice to finally meet you, Abigail.
Abby: You too, Gabi. Will's told me a lot about you. Whoa...nice earrings.
Gabi: Oh, thank you. Will got them for me.
Abby: Oh. Excellent taste, William.
Will: Ahem... so, uh, what's up with you? Hope said that you're gonna enroll at Salem University.
Abby: I already did. It's a no-brainer, really. I mean, my dad's off on some "explore the world" kind of thing. And after what happened to my mom... I decided I'd rather be here with her. Well, it's at least for one semester.
Will: Yeah, um, it's--I mean, that's great. It's gonna be great to have you.
Abby: So what's up with you guys? How come you're not in class?
Gabi: Oh, we had morning classes today. Hey, do you wanna go hang out?
Abby: Sure. Why not? Oh, and hey, maybe we'll run into some guys from Salem U. Get me hooked up right from day one, huh?
Will: [Chuckling] Uh, you never know.
Abby: Actually, I did meet a Salem U. Student of the male variety.
Gabi: Oh, yeah?
Gabi: What'd you think?
Abby: Well, let's see. He was drop dead gorgeous. Tall, sexy, and a total jerk.
Chad: So, Stefano, he's sick.
Chad: Like, dying sick? Or, like, bad cold sick?
Kate: [Sigh] Okay. Chad, I know you're angry. I know the world hasn't been exactly kind to you, lately. But still--
Chad: Just tell me what's wrong with the guy.
Kate: He has type-II diabetes. It's serious. It's not gonna kill him. Hopefully he'll be around for years. But still, his life is not a picnic.
Chad: Got it. He's sick, and it's serious. Glad you told me. I had no idea.
Kate: Yeah, well. I mean, how would you? Since you never reached out to him. Look, Chad. If you're ever going to get to know your father, the time is now.
Hope: Who am I kidding? I'm completely bored out of my mind. The only thing I was ever good at was being a detective.
Jocelyn: Commissioner? Oh.
Hope: Oh, Jocelyn.
Jocelyn: Excuse me. Hey, Hope.
Hope: Hi, how are you?
Bo: What's up?
Jocelyn: Oh, um, if someone doesn't come in here to unfreeze the optical scanner, we're gonna have to shut down all the evidence logs by tonight.
Bo: The optical scanner, huh?
Hope: It's frozen?
Jocelyn: It is.
Bo: Have at it.
Hope: Lead me to it.
Jocelyn: All right.
Bo: Hey, Wilson, Brady. Listen, I am up to my eyeballs in these requisitions. I'm looking at this stakeout from last month. Who authorized ten days... yeah, yeah. Um, just get back to me as soon as you can. Thanks. Hey.
Bo: Everything all right?
Carly: Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. I was just upstairs paying some parking tickets. And I thought I would swing by and drop off this coroner's report on that shooting victim. You know, save somebody a trip.
Bo: Right, uh, thanks. Heard about Melanie. I'm really, really sorry.
Bo: Is she okay?
Carly: No. But she will be, she's been through a lot lately.
Bo: Yeah, well, she's a survivor.
Hope: Takes after her mother.
Nathan: Mel... uh... I have something important I want to talk to you about. Okay?
Nathan: I've been thinking. And, uh, it just can't wait.
Nathan: Okay. My heart's going a mile a minute. Uh, okay. Melanie, I realize that... this might not be the best time or the best place, but I've been thinking. Well, you know I love you. All I do is think about you, all the time. And I would do anything for you. Anything. And I want you to be part of my life. Forever. I know you probably weren't expecting this right now. But, well, I was trying to tell you at the pub. So it's probably not that much of a surprise, right? Right. Uh, okay, anyway... Melanie... will you spend the rest of your life with me? Letting me make you as happy as I can? Will you marry me? All you have to do is say yes.
Melanie: I can't.
Melanie: This is gonna be so hard to say.
EJ: Look, I thought that I was quite clear. Brady is simply using you to hurt me and my family.
Taylor: Wow, you really do think everything's about you, don't you?
EJ: I don't think that. What I know is that the only reason he gave you a job is because of your relationship with me. Now I would think that, that was quite obvious.
Taylor: The fact that I'm qualified with an MBA from one of the top universities in the country. I guess that isn't obvious at all, is it? But of course, if you look on a woman as nothing but a pawn, everything else is too.
EJ: I don't think about women that way, I'm merely--
EJ: Look, why don't you tell me there's some way I can make this up to you? Please.
Taylor: You wanna make it up to me? Skip the sweet little British apology, take your paranoid fantasies, and walk. That'll do the trick just fine.
Gabi: Cute, sexy, and a jerk. Well, that pretty much sums up every guy in Salem.
Will: Ahem. Anyway, uh, do you know his name? We might know him.
Abby: Didn't get a name. And who cares? He was, maybe 20, tops. And he had his little kid with him.
Gabi: He had a kid?
Abby: Yeah, it was a little boy. He's about four years old.
Will: Uh, I don't know who that could be.
Gabi: Yeah, me neither. So you ready? We're gonna go to the Java. You ever been there?
Abby: Actually, that's where I met the jerk.
Will: Well, let's hope he's not still sitting there.
Kate: Will you at least consider it? What? He's not gonna steal your soul, you know. Look at Lexie. She's independent. She's successful. And there's EJ. I mean, he's part of his father's business. He's still his own man.
Chad: I'm not them.
Kate: I know you're not. But by getting to know your father, maybe you'll actually figure out who you are. What you are. He really loved seeing you stand next to EJ at the wedding. Playing with Johnny. Talking and laughing with Lexie. He told me how proud he was of you. What?
Chad: Uh... I'm just thinking. The guy that was supposed to be my father... not once did he ever say he was proud of me. But then this other guy comes along. He's supposed to be bad. And he's proud of me for just showing up.
Kate: Because your his son. Familia.
Kate: Why don't you let him be the father that you never had?
Carly: Hi, how are you?
Hope: Hi, I'm well. Okay. Uh, how are you?
Carly: I'm fine, thank you.
Bo: How's that scanner?
Hope: Uh, it's working fine. I showed Jocelyn how to kick start it when it gets temperamental.
Bo: Good, great. Thanks. I'm sorry, there's something I gotta take care of downstairs. Uh, shouldn't be too long. Take care.
Carly: You too.
Hope: You know, uh--
Carly: It's good to see--
Hope: Uh, sorry.
Carly: No, you go. Go first.
Hope: You sure?
Hope: Well, I was just going to say how sorry I was to hear about Melanie. I truly am. I know things are very tough for her right now.
Carly: Thank you. She needs a little time, that's all.
Carly: And Daniel and I are going to be there, and do everything we can to help her.
Hope: Of course you are, absolutely. She's very lucky to have you.
Carly: Thank you. Listen, I gotta go. Excuse me, I'm sorry.
Hope: Yeah, oh, sure. Uh...
Carly: Wait, um... I just--I wanna say that I think Bo did the right thing. The only thing.
Hope: The only--
Carly: Leaving me. To be with you.
Nathan: Uh, no, no. Uh, never mind. Please don't say anything. Don't--don't explain or anything. I, uh, your dad warned me not to pressure you so soon, and I get it. Can you do me a favor and just, uh, just act like I didn't say a word? I know that sounds crazy, but I finally get it now. And I know you just need time to adjust, and--
Melanie: No, I--I've been thinking about it, too. I made a decision.
Nathan: You've been thinking about us getting married?
Melanie: Yeah. We can't.
Melanie: Because of Philip.
Nathan: You're still gonna be with him? Even though--
Melanie: No, no, no, no. Listen. I can't be with Philip. I could never commit to him the way I should've. But I couldn't to you, either.
Nathan: I don't understand.
Melanie: Every time you and I had a chance to be together, I always ran to Philip. And I understand that he was the wrong choice. But...
Nathan: But what?
Melanie: You are too.
Jennifer: Oh, hey.
Daniel: Hey. Didn't I have you banned from this place?
Jennifer: Well, you know. You just can't keep me away from here. Hey, I had the last of my stitches taken out. McMahon said they were obviously put in by an expert.
Daniel: Yeah, an expert who was in a hell of a hurry, if I recall. How are you feeling? You okay?
Jennifer: Feel great, couldn't be better. Hey, how's your daughter doing?
Daniel: Well, she's hanging in there, she'll get through. She really perked up when she saw Carly.
Jennifer: Carly? She's back?
Daniel: Yeah, she came back the minute she heard.
Jennifer: Oh, that's great. Well, I mean, that must make you really happy too, right?
Daniel: Yeah, actually it does. Yeah, she's a very important part of Melanie's life.
Jennifer: And yours too.
Carly: What I'm trying to say is... Bo did what he needed to do. And I think I knew it was gonna happen. I mean, things change, right? Look at all the good that's come out of this. You and Bo exposed what was going on in that prison. And you were released. You're home with Ciara now. You have your family together again.
Hope: I can only imagine how hard it was for you to say that just now.
Carly: I want Bo to be happy. And he will be with you.
Hope: What about you? How are things with you?
Carly: Oh... look, you know what? Like you, I'm just going to concentrate on my family. And everything's gonna be fine. I really do have to run. Will you tell Bo that I said goodbye?
Hope: Yes, of course, Carly. It was good to see you.
Carly: You too.
Melanie: I know that sounds so cruel. I'm not trying to hurt you. You just have to understand where I'm coming from. You need to understand why this is the only decision I can make.
Nathan: Sorry, I don't.
Melanie: Okay. Look, all my life I've just jumped into things headfirst, without even thinking about it. Maybe I do that because of how Trent raised me, like I wasn't worth anything...so why not? But when I lost my baby... everything changed. I had to change. I couldn't go be with Philip anymore. But I can't just go running back to you.
Nathan: But I love you, right? You know? And you love me, too.
Melanie: [Crying] I know. I know. And this is gonna sound so selfish. I'm sorry, but I have to think about myself. No more jumping into things, because I'm just gonna make more mistakes. I have to think about the future first, and then act later.
Nathan: But you don't see a future with us?
Melanie: No. No. I'm sorry.
EJ: Look. Taylor. I know you're an extremely smart, highly intelligent woman. But that is not the reason that Brady wants to hire you.
Taylor: Oh, God. Here we go again. Brady just wants to get to you, because it's all about you.
EJ: So that he can hurt me and my family. How many times do I have to tell you?
Taylor: EJ, I don't really know you, but I do know that I would never hurt you. Or my sister. So relax. Brady can't use me because I won't let him.
EJ: Please, just wait.
Chad: You seem to forget that I...uh...
Chad: Had a mom.
Chad: I mean, I know she's gone now, but that doesn't mean that I don't think about her all the time. That I don't think about what she said. That I don't think about what she wanted for me.
Kate: What she wanted... was for you to stay away from the DiMeras.
Kate: Right. Because Stefano knew her secret. And because he represented a life that she wanted to keep hidden. But that's not your life. It's a different time. And your mother... I know she's in your heart. And she always will be. But she's not here to love you. Or support you. And the man who raised you, he wants nothing to do with you. But your father is waiting to offer you all the help you need.
Chad: At what price?
Kate: It's very simple. He just wants you to be his son. An honest and open relationship. That's a choice you're going to have to make.
Daniel: Uh, yeah, actually it's true. Carly is a very important part of my life.
Jennifer: Good. Well, she should be. You know, she's the mother of your child.
Daniel: Well, it hasn't always been great between Carly and me. I mean, we had some big problems when I first found out about Melanie's--
Jennifer: No, I know that. But you managed to work it out.
Daniel: Yeah. No, we have. We made it... work out. And, you know, my family is very important to me. Especially with the Chloe-Parker thing.
Jennifer: Right. Yeah, I know. Family, that's what's important. That's what it's about.
[Cell phone ringing]
Daniel: Right. Uh, look at that. You know what? I, um, I gotta go. Small emergency. But, um, I'll see you around.
Jennifer: Okay, bye.
Jennifer: [Gasp] Hey!
Carly: Oh! That was so scary.
Jennifer: Come over here!
Carly: Sorry, hi.
Jennifer: Hi. I missed you.
Carly: I missed you.
Jennifer: What's wrong?
Jennifer: Wait, don't tell me, "what."
Carly: Nothing. I had to drop something off at Bo's office, and--
Carly: Hope was there.
Jennifer: What? What happened?
Carly: Nothing. I just-- look, I... Bo and I are over, I know that. But, you know, seeing them together like that. That kind of made it real for me. That's a good thing. Because not only do I need to accept it in my mind, but in my heart. And now I have.
Jocelyn: It's like, all the pieces are there but nothing fits. I'm really sorry, commissioner.
Bo: Well, it's not really your fault. The Biltmore case has been... well, it's been like that from the beginning. You just hang in there, okay? Hey. Did Carly leave?
Bo: Yeah, well, sorry I had to go deal with that issue.
Hope: No, it's okay.
Bo: How'd you guys do?
Hope: Yeah, we talked. Said some things that needed to be said. Aloud. I, um, I told her that I was sorry how, um--the way everything happened. She said she knew it was going to happen. She said she knew it was for the best. Because... well, that--that you and I...
Bo: You can say it out loud. That you and I are meant to be? We are meant to be. I need you. I need you.
Nathan: No. No, I'm not settling for that. No, it's not. It's not final. It can't be final. [Crying] I love you.
Melanie: I know. Look, this hurts me too, okay? But... it's final. You have to understand that. Please, Nathan.
Nathan: I'm gonna--uh, I'm gonna go.
Melanie: [Crying] No.
Gabi: Okay, so do you see your cute jerk anywhere around here?
Abby: Nope. Maybe the world got lucky and he fell off the pier. Oh, great.
Abby: That's him. That's the total jerk.
Hope: I better let you get back to work.
Bo: Yeah. Thanks for bringing me my lunch.
Hope: Yeah, of course. Anytime.
Hope: I'll, uh, see you later. Listen. I couldn't help overhearing Jocelyn talk about the Biltmore case.
Bo: Yeah. Hey, you were in on that at the beginning, right?
Hope: Yeah, for a while. Would you mind?
Hope: Thank you. Before I had to leave the force--thanks.
Hope: I did some early footwork in this case. Since then I've had quite a lot of time to think. To put it mildly. You see that guy?
Bo: Marty Hopkins, right?
Hope: Yeah. Dig in to his alibi deep enough, it's not gonna stand up.
Bo: You're thinking he's the shooter?
Hope: See you later.
Bo: Yeah. Thank you. Jocelyn. Uh, on the Biltmore case... I believe this guy is your shooter. Dig into it, huh? Put the son-of-a-bitch away.
Jocelyn: Got it. Hope?
Bo: Yeah. She called it.
Jennifer: You are a very strong person.
Carly: Yeah, enough feeling sorry for myself. Whining to you when you're in a much more painful situation.
Jennifer: You know what? It is okay. We're not comparing anything. We are best friends. And if we want to whine to each other, we can whine to each other. We don't have to apologize. But you know what? I need to go.
Jennifer: But, um, I will talk to you soon, okay? I love you.
Carly: Thanks for understanding, I love you.
Daniel: You're still here?
Carly: Just for you, just for you.
Daniel: Hey, everything okay?
Carly: Absolutely. Jennifer's just lifting my spirits, which she does very well. I'm fine. Everything's fine.
EJ: Taylor. You dropped this. I'm sorry we fought.
Taylor: Hey, you know. I took a job with someone you hate, your biggest rival. Why wouldn't you be upset?
EJ: It's more than that. I'm upset because we can't be together.
On the next “Days of our Lives" --
Brady: The company is mine. Deal with it.
Taylor: There is no way I can live here, Nicole.
Nicole: Why the hell not?
EJ: Will you help me, please?
