Nathan: Hey. How's she feeling this morning?

Philip: Uh, she was sleeping when I looked in on her.

Nathan: Hey, um, I'm really sorry about your loss.

Philip: Right.

Nathan: What's that supposed to mean?

Philip: Well, I don't think you're a bad guy, Nathan. You know, I know you're not happy Melanie lost our baby. But deep down, doesn't it feel... kinda neat? Tidy?

Nathan: Neat and tidy?

Philip: Not nice, not good, just clean. Now, that baby we'll never know was the one thing that still tied Melanie and me together. And I bet you're thinking that you can finally get what you've been wanting for so long. Am I right?

Daniel: You okay?

Melanie: Just cramps.

Daniel: It's contractions. You know, if it's too painful, I'll order something. Um, but that's normal. Okay?

Melanie: I almost forgot for a second.

Daniel: Hey. I know how disappointed you are. And I could say, you know, that the child wasn't meant to be, or you're young. You can try again. Okay? But I know that doesn't really help right now.

Melanie: He--or she--felt so real to me. And with--with him or her inside of me, I never felt alone.

Daniel: Hey.

Melanie: Yesterday, I thought I was gonna have two babies. And this morning... I have none. And I just feel so empty.

Daniel: It's okay, sweetie.

Maggie: Oh!

Hope: Hi.

Maggie: Good morning, come in!

Hope: Oh, good morning, good morning.

Maggie: Reinforcements have arrived.

Hope: How was Parker's night?

Maggie: Oh, it's fine, fine.

Hope: And yours, how was it?

Maggie: Do you know, he slept through from 7:00 P.M. to 6:00 A.M. this morning?

Hope: Wow, that's great.

Jennifer: Yes, which means we got sleep, too.

Hope: Yes, fantastic.

Maggie: And now he's taking a nap. Oh, God bless him!

Hope: Jennifer told me that Daniel was called to the hospital for an emergency.

Maggie: Right, um, I am on my way over there right now.

Hope: Okay.

Maggie: And you two have my cell phone numbers, right?

Hope: Yeah, don't worry.

Jennifer: We'll call you if we need you, okay?

Maggie: You're gonna be fine.

Jennifer: We'll be fine.

Maggie: You two make a good team. And you're so cute.

Jennifer: She doesn't know us, does she?

Hope: You didn't do too much care giving, did you? Jen, you just got out of the hospital yesterday. Uh, you're ignoring me.

Jennifer: How's Bo? Did he start his job today?

Hope: Yes, he did, and he dropped Ciara off at school on the way.

Jennifer: Oh, are you serious? She must be so happy.

Hope: Beyond, she is. So happy.

Jennifer: But I am sorry to hear about your job.

Hope: Oh, it's okay. One cop in the family's enough, don't you think? And it means that I get to spend the day with you and this handsome little guy here, until Bo and Ciara come home to me. Now, what could be better than that?

Stefano: Aren't you the least bit curious as to why I left the wedding?

EJ: Well--[Clears throat] For one, I could see all you were doing all night was checking your watch and yawning. So I came to the conclusion you left because you were bored.

Stefano: Hm. We had another incident last night with Rafael.

EJ: Really?

Stefano: Mm.

EJ: What kind of incident?

Stefano: I don't know how he managed it, but he somehow got a hold of Ted's cell phone, and he called Roman Brady.

EJ: Why didn't you tell me about this when we spoke last night?

Stefano: Because I did not want to put more of a damper on your wedding, all right? But everything's under control for now. Thanks to our look-alike. But, you know, we cannot depend on him to take care of all these incidents.

EJ: Okay, so what do you suggest, then?

Stefano: I believe that our friend downstairs has outlived his usefulness. So it's time for us to move into the next phase of the plan.

Rafe: I promise you, Sami, I'll find a way out of here. I'll find a way out of here and get back to you.

Jennifer: He's still sound asleep. He's so good.

[Phone ringing]

Jennifer: Oh.

Hope: Good, now you can eat your oatmeal that I made you.

Jennifer: Oh, it's Abigail. Hello, is this Abigail Deveraux, famous world traveler?

Abigail: Where are you?

Jennifer: What kind of greeting is that?

Abigail: The kind you get when you turn your cell phone off, so I call the hospital, and they say you've been released, and so I call great-gram's house, where you said you'd be staying, and there's no answer. All night long.

Jennifer: I am so sorry. They let me go home, and I spent the night at aunt Maggie's last night. I am so sorry I didn't tell you. My bad.

Abigail: Don't ever say "my bad" again.

Jennifer: Sorry.

Abigail: A-are you okay?

Jennifer: Yes, honey, I'm fine. I'm just missing my baby girl.

Abigail: I'm not a baby.

Jennifer: Hey, how are finals going?

Abigail: Great. Hasn't gotten in the way of my partying at all.

Jennifer: Honey, don't say that. Please stop. Don't say that.

Abigail: Oh, Mom. It's really good to hear you sound like you again. I was really scared.

Jennifer: You know, sweetie, I am fine. I don't want you to worry. Listen, I just--I really, really want you to concentrate on your finals, please? Okay? I love you, baby.

Abigail: I love you, too, Mom.

EJ: This is the second guard that Rafe, in his weakened condition, has managed to outsmart. Do you think maybe the problem is the people that we employ?

Stefano: Point well taken. I did say that we'd keep Rafael around as long as he did not make trouble. Last night, he could have screwed up this entire operation. That is trouble.

EJ: So what do you want me to do? Hm?

Stefano: What I think is this. That it's time... for Rafael to leave Salem. Forever.

Chloe: Do you have a pen?

[Monitor beeping]

Chloe: Philip is married. If I sign this and he takes custody of Parker, what rights does that give his wife, Melanie?

Attorney: Well, assuming he and his wife live together, she would have physical custody, too.

Chloe: Physical custody?

Attorney: She'd be entitled to care for Parker. Tend to his needs. Is that a problem?

Chloe: No. It's better that he's with people who love him, instead of strangers. That's all that matters.

Melanie: I never really understood what it must have felt like for you to lose Parker 'til now.

Daniel: I guess we're kind of facing the same thing. Forced to take all those--those plans we made, the--you know, the dreams we had, and you, uh-- sweetheart, what you do is you, uh, you put 'em high on a shelf somewhere. Way in the back. So you don't have to see 'em so often. But you know, what's different is you are suffering a physical loss. Stop. You need to take care of yourself. Okay?

Melanie: I feel sleepy all the time. Is that--is like an escape?

Daniel: Who cares? Who cares, sweetheart? You just sleep. Get some sleep.

EJ: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait a second. I thought we agreed. Rafe stays in the picture until such time as our doppelganger has been able to alienate Johnny, Sydney, and ultimately, Samantha.

Stefano: There's a lot of pressure in doing what he is doing. If he blows up, it will destroy everything that we have in place.

EJ: Look, Father. You can't rush this. Okay? You just can't. Samantha has to come to her own conclusion that this guy, Rafe, is not the man that she married. See, then Samantha and I, we take control of the children, without any interference from Rafe. You understand? I get to be the father figure to my children.

Stefano: What I fear is that, uh, you are getting soft, which usually means that you are trying to impress some good woman. Fortunately, there is no one who would ever put Nicole in that category, but I don't know. Maybe I'm just imagining the whole thing.

EJ: Sorry.

Taylor: Oh, no problem.

Philip: I want Melanie to have time to grieve and get past this. I don't want anybody pushing an agenda on her, and that includes you.

Nathan: Oh, you're giving me advice now on how to treat Melanie?

Philip: Oh, get off your high horse. This baby was in your way, and now you're figuring out your first move.

Daniel: Okay, knock it off, Philip. This is neither the time nor the place.

Nathan: I was just gonna say the same thing. Excuse me.

Philip: How's Melanie?

Daniel: Physically, she's fine.

Philip: Nathan and I were arguing when the pain hit. She blames me for this, doesn't she?

Daniel: As much as I wish she did, I'm sorry to say the only person she seems to blame is herself.

Chloe: Melanie. You're in a-- what happened to you?

Melanie: I lost my baby.

EJ: And I'm not going "soft," as you so charmingly put it. I short-circuited your little plan for Allie because, whether you like it or not, she's Johnny's sister. And he loves her, and he wants her in his life.

Stefano: Giovanni does not need Rafael Hernandez in his life, and neither do we.

EJ: That's a matter of opinion.

Stefano: Ah, here he is now. Ha, ha! Buon giorno! [Laughing]

Johnny: Daddy and me are gonna have pancakes.

EJ: Daddy and I.

Johnny: Daddy and I.

Stefano: Pancakes, oh! That's delicious.

EJ: Yep, we're having a power breakfast, aren't we? Just the two of us. I wonder, how many pancakes do you think you can eat? 100?

Johnny: 100.

EJ: 100? Ah, you can eat more than that.

Stefano: Ah, yes. You take care of your son, Elvis. And I'll take care of mine.

Chloe: Melanie, I'm--I'm so sorry.

Melanie: You don't have to say that.

Chloe: I don't?

Melanie: I tried to take your baby. Now God took mine.

Chloe: No, that's not why it happened.

Melanie: Who knows why it happened? No one really knows why miscarriages happen. All I know is I had no right to be doing to you what I was doing. I mean, who did I think I was?

Chloe: You were angry because I hurt your father so badly.

Melanie: That doesn't give me the right to try and push you over the edge.

Chloe: I was pretty close to the edge anyway. And with Kate working both of us, I don't blame you.

Melanie: I still love Parker. And I want him to have a good life. And the best life a child can have is with a mother who loves them, so I want you to get better. So that you can give him that life.

Attorney: Mrs. Jonas just signed the authorization for the change on Parker's birth certificate. Maybe I should speak to you separately.

Daniel: No. No, it's okay. What do we do now?

Attorney: Well, you'll have to sign also so that Mr. Kiriakis can take temporary custody of Parker, if his name's going to continue to be Parker, which is a separate matter.

Daniel: It's not my call.

Philip: Well, Chloe wanted his name to be Parker, so that's what it'll be.

Attorney: Parker Kiriakis?

Philip: You're sure you're okay with this?

Daniel: Where do I sign?

[Knock at door]

Jennifer: Abigail! What--you're in London!

Abigail: Quick trip, huh?

Jennifer: What are you doing here, baby? Oh, my gosh, it's so good to see you! Oh, baby.

EJ: So how'd you like the pancakes?

Johnny: Good.

EJ: Mm-hmm? How's your new eye? Not causing you any problems, is it?

Johnny: I was good before I got it. I couldn't sleep.

EJ: Huh. You couldn't sleep. Why not?

Johnny: I saw something outside. Something scary.

Rafe: Oh, God. I gotta get that picture out of my head, or I'm not gonna make it. Oh, my God. Who am I kidding? I'm gonna keep seeing that for the rest of my life.

[Footsteps]

Stefano: Don't worry, Rafael. Nothing lasts forever.

Jennifer: Oh, it's so great!

Abigail: Oh, am I hurting you?

Jennifer: No, no, I'm fine. I'm fine. Come on in. Although my heart just did a flip-flop when I saw you standing there. Let me help you.

Abigail: It was supposed to work out way differently. I had it all planned.

Jennifer: I cannot believe this. So when you said you were calling me from London, you were not in London, obviously.

Abigail: Well, I only had two finals, and they were early, so I thought I'd surprise you.

Jennifer: Oh, my goodness.

Abigail: But then you weren't at the hospital, and I couldn't find you.

Jennifer: I know, baby. Oh, my goodness.

Abigail: So I--

Hope: Abigail?

Jennifer: Yes, look!

Abigail: Hi!

Hope: Oh, my--

Jennifer: I know!

Hope: Wait, you're here. You're in Salem.

Jennifer: She's here. So she said she was calling from London, but she was tricking me.

Hope: Wait, wait, let me take this in. Uh--uh--y-you're a woman. You're grown up. You're gorgeous.

Abigail: Awww.

Hope: You're so beautiful! Oh, my gosh, Abigail, I can--

Abigail: I'm so happy everything's working out for you.

Hope: Thank you. Me, too.

Jennifer: Oh, honey, you're jet lagged. I need to feed you. You're probably starving.

Abigail: Oh, mom, I'm good. I just wanna be with you.

Hope: Oh, oh, darn it. Darn it.

Jennifer: What, what's wrong?

Hope: I forgot--I mean, I just remembered, I promised Ciara that I would pick up stuff to make cookies after school. Do you think maybe you can manage without me?

Jennifer: I think we'll be all right.

Abigail: Yeah, no problem.

Hope: Okay. Honey, it is so, so wonderful-- sorry--to see you. I'm just--

Abigail: You, too.

Hope: You take care of your mother for me, okay?

Abigail: I will.

Hope: All right, I love you, cous.

Jennifer: Love you, bye.

Hope: Have fun.

Jennifer: [Screams] Oh, baby.

Melanie: I guess I don't really know what else to say, except... that I'm sorry.

Chloe: I turned your world upside-down. I am so sorry, too.

Melanie: I should probably go.

Chloe: I made Philip Parker's legal guardian this morning.

Melanie: You did?

Chloe: Yeah. Or he would've had to go into foster care.

Melanie: Why?

Chloe: Because they don't think that I'm stable enough right now to take care of him. Which is pretty much true.

Melanie: No.

Chloe: Yes. Melanie, I tried to kill myself. I asked the Social Services guy if he ever thought that I would get Parker back. He doesn't even know. So I have a huge favor to ask you. Would you please... please take care of Parker? Please help Philip. Please look out for him.

Jennifer: Here, come sit down, eat.

Abigail: Well, Spring Break's, you know, almost a month long, so I thought I'd spend it here in Salem.

Jennifer: In Salem? You could be in London or running around Europe with your fabulous friends.

Abigail: I wanna be with you, okay?

Jennifer: Why? Because you miss me, or because you're worried about me?

Abigail: Both.

Jennifer: Honey--

Abigail: Did you hear from dad?

Jennifer: Mm-mm. No.

Abigail: What a jerk.

Jennifer: Honey, do not call your father a name, please. Not in front of me, okay?

Abigail: You're standing up for him? You could've died, mom. And he's so busy trying to be 20 years old again that he never even called you to find out what happened or how you were. I mean, he never even called me or JJ. How can you defend him? Don't tell me you still love him.

EJ: It's all right, you know. You can tell me what it was you saw outside your window that night.

Johnny: It was-- I saw Rafe.

[Footsteps]

Philip: Melanie.

Melanie: Hi.

Philip: Hey, your dad told me you were sleeping.

Melanie: Yeah. I just wanted to apologize to Chloe.

Philip: That's... that's amazing. But I think you should be in bed.

Melanie: Yeah. Hold on. You sucked it up and signed those papers. Put Parker's needs in front of yours. And despite everything that's happened, all the terrible things I've said about you, if you can do that for your son, you can do anything.

Maggie: Thanks.

Nathan: Well, um, okay, I don't really have a lot of time. I gotta get back to the hospital.

Maggie: I know, honey, and I won't keep you, I promise. I just think we really need to talk about Melanie. Come on, let's sit down. Um, I saw her this morning. And she's not in very good shape. She blames herself for the miscarriage. And she really doesn't know where she wants to go from here.

Nathan: Oh, okay. What, you, too?

Maggie: What does that mean?

Nathan: Philip accused me of being glad that Melanie lost the baby. And of taking advantage of the situation.

Maggie: [Gasps] Well, that's cruel and unfair.

Nathan: But.

Maggie: Okay. Melanie, when she gets out of the hospital, is gonna be putting one foot in front of the other. Getting through one day at a time. Now, you have been a very good friend to Melanie. And she needs friends. But I know you--you want more than friendship. And I think she needs space and time to grieve.

Nathan: And I think that you're wrong. I really do. I think that's the last thing that Melanie needs right now.

Maggie: Huh.

Jennifer: You know what? I am angry with your father. But that is between him and me.

Abigail: Yeah, if you ever see him again.

Jennifer: You know what? I am saying this for your sake, not his. He is still your father.

Abigail: So I can't even be mad at him? Mom, it's not like it's the first time that dad's done something like this.

Jennifer: Yes, I know that. And I knew that when I married him, and I knew it when I had children with him, and when I married him again. I knew the man that he was, but I still loved him. And I still do love him.

Abigail: I feel like I spent my entire childhood in great-gram's kitchen, plotting ways to get the two of you back together. But I'm not a little kid anymore. And I'm sick of hoping for that. I'm sick of you covering for him and trying to be both my mom and my dad.

Jennifer: Well, what would you like me to do differently right now?

Abigail: I don't want you to tell me you're fine when you're not fine. And I want you to do something about the fact that dad has completely disappeared from all our lives.

Jennifer: Okay, well, right now, at this moment, there is very little that I can do.

Abigail: Well, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

EJ: Do you remember when the doctors said that your brain might tell you you were seeing things from your old eye? Things that weren't really there?

Johnny: You mean Rafe wasn't really there?

EJ: No. I don't think so. And neither were those bad guys, either.

Johnny: I wish he was there. I miss him.

Stefano: Your problem, Rafael, is that you are your own worst enemy.

Rafe: Well, it seems to me that I'm your son's worst enemy, actually. But since he's not man enough to deal with me, he had to lock me up in here and send a sock puppet in to take my place.

Stefano: And Samantha bought it like that. Eh? Aren't you in the least bit relieved, I mean, to be free of that woman? [Chuckles] I guess not. Hm. Me, whoo. I would never want to reunite with a woman like that. I mean, she can't even tell the difference between me and a guy that looks like me when he's making love to her? Ho, ho. [Chuckles]

Rafe: So what are you gonna do to me?

Stefano: Mm. You know, I almost forgot to tell you, because I came down here with good news. Hm? I am going to reward you for all your problems. I am going to make you a very happy man.

Jennifer: What? Did you just call me dumb?

Abigail: Okay, I went too far.

Jennifer: Thank you.

Abigail: But, I mean, have you looked in the mirror?

Jennifer: No, I am not gonna look in the mirror until after I get my stitches out.

Abigail: Oh, well, you're still totally hot.

Jennifer: Hot?

Abigail: Yes!

Jennifer: What?

Abigail: You are. And if--if dad thinks that you are gonna just sit here and wait for him to decide to come back, he's dreaming.

Jennifer: I am so not ready for that right now.

Abigail: Okay. But you will be. And when it happens... it'll be dad's loss.

Melanie: Oh, thanks.

Philip: You in a lot of pain?

Melanie: Yeah, some. But I'm okay.

Philip: Are you sure it's okay for you to go home?

Melanie: The doctor wouldn't have signed the release form if I weren't okay to go home.

Philip: Yeah. You know, what you said to Chloe, that was just-- you're something else.

Melanie: Yeah. When I found out Chloe tried to kill herself, I realized I had to forgive her for sleeping with you. I have to find a way to try and forgive you, too.

Hope: Oh, it's so cold! Quick.

Julie: Oh, good, a table.

Hope: I am so glad, so happy that you had time for coffee with me.

Julie: With you? Are you kidding? So. What is it you wanted to talk with me about?

Hope: Well, um... what do I do with my life now that I can't be a cop?

Julie: Oh. You still have your P.I. license?

Hope: Yeah, I do. But I did that with Bo. It wouldn't be the same on my own.

Julie: I see. Well, seriously, you want my advice?

Hope: Yes.

Julie: Make this your personal time. Read all the books that you've ever wanted to read. Spend good time with your good friends. It'll become clear to you in a while. What? What are you looking at?

Hope: EJ. He's over there with his little boy, cutting up his pancakes.

Julie: Grizzly bears care for their young, too.

Hope: Not so easy to point the finger anymore. When you have your own rap sheet.

Julie: Oh, darling.

Hope: Julie, so many of the women that I met in prison, they were there because they'd been abused. They didn't have anyone. They didn't have family, people who loved them, anyone they could really turn to and trust. But that wasn't me. I have a family, people who love me, a roof, thank God, over my head. Why do I deserve to be so lucky?

Julie: Because you are you.

Hope: Me. I don't-- I'm not so sure who me is anymore. That's the problem.

Stefano: Do you play chess, Rafael?

Rafe: A little.

Stefano: Hm. Well, now you're going to have all the time in the world to learn how to play properly. As a matter of fact, you might be the next Bobby Fischer. You could also, um, take up knitting. Perhaps learn how to play the piano. That's what I would do, you know. There are all kinds of wonderful hobbies that are much more productive than Samantha Brady.

Rafe: Hm. So where is it that I'm gonna have all this leisure time?

Stefano: Oh, oh, yeah, well, see, it's--it's not a place. It's a more, um, uh, how do I say it? It's more a frame of mind, see? One stick of the needle, and you will forget Samantha Brady completely. Now, there is a little, eh, side effect. You will not remember anything about the man you are now.

Julie: Tell me what you're doing with the rest of your day.

Hope: I am having lunch with Bo.

Julie: Oh. Oh, honey, that makes me so happy. I'll call you later.

Hope: Okay. Love you.

Julie: Love you. Thank you for this time.

Hope: Yeah, thank you. Um, drive safely.

Julie: You bet.

[Phone ringing]

Hope: Oh. Speaking of the devil. Hey, hi. Where do you want to meet for lunch? Oh, okay. Um, no, no, it's no problem at all. It--Bo, stop apologizing. It's okay, you just-- it's your first day back to work. I'm sure you're completely swamped. My day is great. I'm having a fantastic day. So no worries. Don't worry about me. I'll see you when you get home. Hey, who knows? Maybe I'll surprise you with a gourmet--no. Gourmet meal, I was gonna say, but you know what? If I cook, I'll ruin your evening, so I'll just order in and surprise you that way. Okay, bye.

Jennifer: Hey, there. Come on in, it's freezing.

Daniel: Hey. How's, uh, how's Parker?

Jennifer: Uh, he's great. He's upstairs. He's sleeping like a little angel. You don't look so hot. What's wrong?

Daniel: Well, you know what? The reason that I didn't take Parker was because, um, my daughter Melanie, she had a--she had a miscarriage last night.

Jennifer: Oh, God, I'm so sorry.

Daniel: Thank you, thank you.

Jennifer: Um, are--are you here about Parker?

Daniel: Yeah, yeah. I wanted you and Maggie to know that, you know, I really don't know what's gonna happen with him next. You know, this morning, I signed some papers that say I'm no longer, um, Parker's legal father.

Jennifer: Daniel, I, um-- come here. I'm sorry.

[Daniel exhales hard]

Maggie: So you're just gonna ignore what I said, is that it?

Nathan: Listen. I love you. But I listened to you before, and everyone else that told me I should stay away from Melanie, and look what Philip Kiriakis did to her life. She should've been with me. Okay, she would've been safe with me. And this may be the last chance that we have at a life together. And I'm not-- I can't blow that.

Philip: You forgive me? Well, that makes my next question a whole lot easier.

Melanie: Next question?

Philip: Where do we go from here?

Melanie: I've been thinking a lot about that.

Philip: You have?

Melanie: Yeah. And I think you'll be surprised with what I came up with.

EJ: You're happy that I married Nicole, right? That's good. You know, if, um, you ever have any kind of problems with Nicole, you shouldn't be afraid to talk to me about her. Okay? I don't want what happened to Allie to happen to you.

Johnny: What happened to Allie?

EJ: Well... Rafe wasn't being very nice to her, and she was afraid to tell your mother.

Johnny: Rafe was always nice to me. I love him.

On the next “Days of our Lives" --

Rafe: So if I don't... have a memory, then who's gonna be the brains of the robot that you've made?

Stefano: Elvis insists that we get information from you. I disagree.

Rafe: So who wins?

Stefano: Who do you think?
