[Mellow piano music]

Maggie: Oh, hi. Can I get you a table? Taylor Walker! I don't believe it!

Taylor: Hey, Maggie!

Maggie: I didn't know you were in Salem.

Taylor: I just got here a couple of days ago.

Maggie: Oh, honey, it's so good to see you.

Taylor: Nicole told me about Mickey. I'm so sorry.

Maggie: Thank you. I'm sure you're here to see your sister, I take it?

Taylor: Um, that's the main reason, yeah.

Maggie: So how long you gonna stay in town?

Taylor: I've actually decided to stick around Salem for a while.

Melanie: I, that's wonderful.

Taylor: Yeah.

Maggie: Well, I know Nicole is gonna be pleased.

Taylor: I hope so. Anyway, since I've decided to stay in town, I was wondering if you had any job openings.

Maggie: Oh, my goodness, you're not gonna believe this. One of my waitresses just gave me a two-week notice. So I tell you what, I'm gonna get an application, and you go and wait at the bar.

Taylor: Okay. Sounds great. Thank you.

Maggie: Oh, it's so good to see you. [Chuckles]

Taylor: It's him.

Brady: Phone charger. Where's my charger? Where the hell is it? Where's my briefcase?

Victor: If you're looking for your things, they're gone.

Brady: Gone how?

Victor: Henderson packed them up and took them to the dump. And if you don't leave immediately, I'll have you taken there as well.

Brady: Okay.

Taylor: I wonder if he's alone. Maybe I'll go and find out. It is Valentine's Day, after all. It is you.

EJ: I've--I've been thinking about you...constantly since the first time. I'm sorry, I can't seem to get you out of my mind.

Taylor: Same here.

EJ: You look beautiful, even more so than I remembered.

Taylor: Thanks. But, uh... It's Valentine's Day.

EJ: Right. Yeah.

Taylor: Right. So...um...

EJ: So...

Taylor: [Laughs] Are you with someone tonight?

EJ: Yes. I mean, no. I me--I mean yes. I mean, I'm with you.

Taylor: Come on, Taylor, be brave. If you don't do it now, you may never have the chance again. [Sighs] Excuse me, uh, I just wanted to say hi since-- m oh, uh...sorry. I thought you were someone else.

Man: It's no problem.

Taylor: Right. Sorry to disturb you. Okay.

EJ: Sorry for the interruption. Another bottle?

Nicole: [Chuckles] Don't worry. I mean, the kids come first. So what's going on? Is Johnny okay?

EJ: Uh, he will be. Yeah. So thank you for looking after him, though.

Nicole: Yeah. But still, another procedure, and getting a new eye-- that's scary stuff even if you're not four years old.

EJ: He'll be fine.

Nicole: Yeah.

EJ: You know, he's a tough kid.

Nicole: He's brave too. Is he asleep now?

EJ: Yeah. I read him a couple of nursery rhymes. He went out like a light.

Sami: Maybe we should go back to the bedroom.

Rafe 2: I don't think I can wait.

Sami: Rafe, wait. I--

Rafe 2: What? Something wrong?

Sami: No. No. I love you. I love you so much

Rafe 2: I love you too. Well, then show me how much. Show me.

[Clatter]

Sami: Oh, my God!

Brady: So we're trotting out the old "throw the heir out of the house" routine again, hmm?

Victor: That's exactly what we're doing.

Brady: Gall, the problem is, grandpa, that it's not really gonna fly this time. You see, the house in question it belongs to me.

Victor: A temporary situation. Let me ask you something, Brady. How does it feel to steal from your own grandfather? hmm? Are you able to sleep at night? Or are you too ruthless in your deranged state to even have a twinge of guilt for the man who gave you everything? Spent my whole life seeing to it that you had a life.

Brady: Wow, that's quite an ego you got there, thinking that you gave me a life.

Victor: Now, you listen to me, you insolent bastard. I started this company with my own two hands. 15 hours a day working on the docks, from the time I was a teenager. And you know why I worked my fingers the bone? So that my children and my grandchildren could have better.

Brady: I know this. You've mentioned it millions of times, Grandpa.

Victor: Yes. And now I see it was a big mistake. You should have had to learn firsthand what hard labor was... so you wouldn't take for grant what you had.

Brady: I work my ass off. I work it off. And I don't take anything for granted. I take nothing for grant-- you know what you taught me, Grandpa? That nice guys finish last. That's what I learned from you. That's how you live. That's your creed. Damn it, it's mine now too!

Victor: Just get the hell out of here.

Brady: You know, I almost lost everything a while back. My self-respect, my dignity, it was gone. It's back. I've reinvented myself. I like me now. It's like a testament to my resilience, don't you think?

Victor: It's a testament to your idiocy. As I've reminded you a million times, I started this company from nothing.

Brady: Yadda, yadda, yadda. I've heard it. Yada, yada, yada!

Victor: And nothing is exactly what it's going to be worth if you run it the way you've run the rest of your miserable, pathetic life!

Will: So are you feeling better?

Gabi: Better? Oh, about my brother. Yeah. Yeah, I guess. I was just probably over-reacting. I mean, he's not himself yet, but the doctor said that's to be expected. Yeah, he's gonna be like that for a while. Hey, Will, what are you looking at?

Man: Hey, DiMera, what's up?

[Cell phone ringing]

EJ: Mmm...

Nicole: What? What?

EJ: Just one moment.

Nicole: Oh, I knew I should have implemented the Valentine's Day no-texting rule.

EJ: Excuse me. I'll be back in just a second.

Nicole: Sure. Okay.

Rafe 2: What? What's the problem now?

Sami: Nothing. I just--the thing on the door-- the speakeasy, it must have been left open from the dinner.

Rafe 2: Sami. What's the problem?

Sami: Oh...nothing. Nothing. I was just imagining things.

Rafe: Sami... the power.

Brady: You think I will run this company into the ground? Look what you've done.

Victor: Just get out. Go get drunk somewhere.

Brady: Grandfather, you've lost it. You've lost it. You should have passed the torch years ago, but you couldn't... because you wanted to hold on to the power. You are gonna be 400 years old, walking around, senile as hell, and there's still no way you would let Philip or me run Titan. You know it's the truth!

Victor: Oh, how can you say that?

Brady: If you had any respect for me, you wouldn't have kept me under your thumb all those years, Grandpa. You would have let me go out there and make my own mistakes!

Victor: You're sure making a ton of 'em now, aren't you?

Brady: You also wouldn't have thrown my inheritance away. And for what, Maggie? Maggie Horton?

Victor: Don't you dare invoke Maggie's name in this.

Brady: Well, she's part of the equation, isn't she? It was her that insisted that we go get Vivian and bring her back from the island. And now she's screwed all our lives up again!

Victor: Taking Vivian off the island was the right thing to do.

Brady: No, no! The right thing to do was to take your company from you. And I'm not giving it back.

Victor: Get the hell out of here.

Brady: I'll tell you what. I'm gonna throw you a crumb because you're my grandfather. Keep the house. Don't say I never did anything for you.

Maggie: You have an MBA.

Taylor: Yeah, yeah.

Maggie: Oh, my goodness. And you spent the summer of '09 working with Orphans in Romania. Oh, my.

Taylor: I did.

Maggie: Well, that's just wonderful.

Taylor: It was a great experience, yeah.

Maggie: Taylor, you are over-qualified for this job. But you know what, with your accounting and your business background, there is someone at Titan that I can--

Taylor: Thanks, but Brady black already offered me a job there. I turned it down.

Maggie: What? Why?

Nicole: EJ, what's wrong?

EJ: You're going to have to excuse me again.

Nicole: Sure. But I'm hoping that everything's--

EJ: It's fine. Everything's fine.

[Cell phone ringing]

Rafe 2: Stupid phone.

Sami: Don't you think you should get it?

Rafe 2: No way.

Sami: Rafe, what if it's work?

Rafe 2: Work can wait.

Sami: Could be an emergency.

Rafe 2: Yeah, those can wait too.

EJ: How dare you ignore my call! You listen to me. I have news for you. Rafe is coming over to your place, and you're the only bloody person who can stop him. You understand me? Now!

Nicole: Are

EJ: Listen, I'm very sorry, sweetheart, but have to-- have to go.

Nicole: Now? But it's--

EJ: Sorry. Nothing that can be done.

Nicole: Are you sure? Is there anything I can do to help?

EJ: Pray.

[Electricity crackling]

Rafe: Unh!

Sami: What was that?

Rafe 2: I don't know. I'm gonna check it out.

Sami: Hey.

Rafe 2: Hey. Whatever or whoever was out there is gone now. So...where were we? Hmm?

Man: I'll see you around, DiMera.

Chad: Yeah. Hey.

Will: Hey.

Gabi: Hi.

Will: Could I ask you something?

Chad: What?

Will: Did that guy just call you "DiMera"?

Chad: Uh, yeah, he did.

Will: So it's official then.

Chad: No, no, no, no. It's not official. He called me DiMera because that was the name I used on the job application at Cheatin' Heart. But it helped me get hired.

Will: Oh. What about the job that Stefano offered you?

Chad: You know what, I don't really want handouts. Or another jerk father who's gonna care for me one minute and treat me like crap the next. That's the last thing I need.

Maggie: So you turned down Brady's offer?

Taylor: I won't compromise myself working for a corrupt corporation like that just for a bigger paycheck-- like, a more prestigious job. What? Maggie, come on. You know that company's corrupt. Victory Kiriakis, his heart's as black as night.

Maggie: Well, Victor is a complicated man, I grant you that. But still...

Brady: Whiskey, neat. Make it a double.

Nicole: Oh, hi, Johnny.

Johnny: Where's my Dad?

Nicole: Um, well, he'll be back in a little while.

Johnny: He said he was gonna get Nigel.

Nicole: He did?

Johnny: But he never came.

Nicole: Well, he'll be back soon, okay? Come sit with me. Johnny, did you have a nightmare?

Johnny: I was already awake.

Nicole: You were? Hmm, your daddy said that he read you a couple of lullabies, and you fell right asleep.

Johnny: Nope.

Sami: Did you have a fun time with your Great-Grandma Caroline?

Allie: We had apple pie.

Sami: Apple pie? I'm so jealous. Well, that means you need extra teeth brushing tonight. And it is so late that we've gotta get you PJ's on and get you to bed, okay? Come on. I'll race you. Come on!

EJ: Finally! Where the hell have you been?

Rafe 2: Sorry, I was involved in something.

EJ: I don't care if you had an audience with the bloody Pope!

Rafe 2: Oh, I had an audience all right. Don't think that I didn't see Rafe getting dragged out in the damn hall! I guess everything's okay now?

EJ: Oh, relax. You listen to me, and you listen good, all right? If I call...you answer. That's rule number one. Got it?

Rafe 2: Yeah, I got it, all right. Sorry. Won't happen again.

EJ: It had better not. Now, you get yourself down here immediately.

Rafe 2: Yeah, yeah. I'll be there when I can.

Sami: Hey. Who was that?

Rafe 2: Mmm. That was the P.D. After I heard that noise in the hallway, I just wanted to make sure everything was okay.

Sami: Oh, right, well, I guess that's a good idea.

Rafe 2: Yeah. Well, evidently there was a domestic disturbance down the hall. That noise we heard? The thump? Some guy must have knocked his girlfriend down, you know?

Sami: That is so creepy. I mean, I can't believe that would happen here on our floor.

Rafe 2: I know, right?

Sami: I've gotta be honest... it scares me.

Rafe 2: Well, babe, I'm here. I'll protect you.

Sami: I know. I just think about my kids, you know. I don't want them to be exposed to that kind of violence. Especially in a nice building like this, you would think it would never happen. But I guess-- I guess it can happen anywhere.

Rafe 2: Apparently it can. And it does far too often.

Sami: Right. Luckily, I have the protection of my handsome, wonderful, brave, sexy FBI guy.

Rafe 2: [Chuckles] I assume you're talking about me.

Sami: Of course I am. I think about everything you've ever done for me, and God, how you risked your life one time and, I mean, got stabbed with a knife trying to protect us.

Maggie: Brady?

Brady: I know that voice. Hi, Maggie. Holster the song and dance. I don't want to hear it right now.

Maggie: Well, as if you weren't asking for it coming here.

Brady: Have you seen these? These are beautiful. Look, it sits in there. I'm here to make sure that all the DiMera wedding arrangements go off without a hitch. EJ and Nicole, happily ever after, round two.

Maggie: Brady, I know you're upset.

Brady: I am not upset. She can have that bastard. I mean, those lunatics are perfect for each other. It's beautiful.

Maggie: You just came from seeing Victor, didn't you?

Brady: I did. Give that lady a prize.

Maggie: And what did he say to you?

Brady: What does he ever say, Maggie? He talks about...moolah. You know, offshore bank accounts, money. That's what the man loves, money.

Maggie: That's not true, Brady.

Brady: I knew you were gonna say that. You know, the truth is, Maggie, you don't know him like I know him. And if you're lucky, you will never know him the way I know him. I'm gonna go.

Maggie: Let me call you a cab.

Brady: No, I don't need a cab, I'm gonna walk.

Maggie: Okay.

Brady: I'm gonna walk.

Nicole: You know, Johnny, I don't think your daddy forgot Nigel. It's just that... well, something important came up.

Johnny: What?

Nicole: I'm not sure. I have an idea. Super hugs, and then you stay right here for a second, okay? Don't go anywhere. Stay right here. Stay right there. EJ... why are you lying to me?

Sami: The sacrifices that you have made for me.

Rafe 2: Yep. Good thing I still have a scar, right? Evidence.

Sami: I don't need it. I'll never forget that day. I came back to the safe house. You were bleeding. I thought you were gonna die, remember?

Rafe 2: How could I forget?

Sami: I still have that key you gave me for Christmas. I keep it with me all the time.

Rafe 2: Cool.

Sami: I wish you still had yours.

Rafe 2: Yeah.

Sami: I hate that it got lost.

[Cell phone ringing]

Sami: Oh, you're a popular guy tonight.

Rafe 2: Mm. Oh...yeah. I've gotta check in with work.

Sami: Really? This late?

Rafe 2: Uh-huh. I know. Bummer, right?

Sami: Um...yeah.

Rafe 2: I gotta go, though. But I'll be back soon. Keep the door locked, okay?

Sami: I will. I promise. Be safe, Doll.

EJ: How is he?

Marco: The guy's in pretty bad shape, Mr. DiMera. He's burning up with a fever.

EJ: Poor bastard has more courage than sense, looks like.

Marco: I'm not sure how much longer he'll last, to tell you the truth.

EJ: That's a shame.

[Doorbell rings]

Maggie: [Sighs]

Victor: Maggie.

Maggie: Hi. I just saw Brady at Chez Rouge.

Victor: Oh. A few stiff ones to celebrate his newfound riches?

Maggie: There was no celebrating.

Victor: What, then? Something to numb his incalculable remorse?

Maggie: Well, that's a little more like it. He feels terrible, Victor. I can tell.

Victor: If he feels so terrible, why did he do it?

Maggie: Because he loves you. And you love him. So what are you fighting about, money? I mean, that is the least important thing in life. That is the one thing that you and I agree upon. It's all about family. Now, you believe that, don't you?

Victor: Of course I believe it. I told Brady the exact same thing.

Maggie: Well, he needs your help, Victor. And I'm speaking as a sponsor now too.

Victor: Well, I reached out to him, but he'd have none of it. How can I get to him when he's full of anger and vengeance?

Maggie: Victor, he needs to know he can count on you to be the man that I know you are. I mean, regardless of how he is behaving, you need to take the high road. He needs your help, Victor. And you will give it to him. Right?

[Footsteps]

Taylor: Brady?

Brady: Oh, go away.

Taylor: Oh, my God, you're drunk. Uh... whoa, whoa, whoa! Take it easy, huh?

Brady: Taylor, hey, leave me alone, okay?

Taylor: No, no, no... sorry, can't do that.

Will: Okay, I don't want to butt into your business...

Chad: But you're going to anyway.

Will: You know my history with the DiMeras.

Chad: So what are you telling me? That they're much cooler now? That they turned into upstanding citizens, each and every one of them?

Will: I don't know about Stefano, but EJ-- I can't believe I'm about to say this, but he's definitely trying to change. I mean, he let my mom have partial custody of Johnny and Sydney.

Chad: Uh-huh. Uh-huh. And what does that prove. They're her kids.

Will: Well, he didn't have to keep his word, but he did. And not too long ago, he would have done everything in his power to freeze her out.

Chad: That's great. EJ did one good thing in his life. I'm sure he dislocated his shoulder trying to pat himself on the back for that one.

Gabi: You know what, Chad? Will and I aren't in any kind of place to judge. Every family has its quirks.

Will: Or worse, if you're talking about mine.

Gabi: Look, I came from a big, close family, and it's the best thing in the world. And I know you try to pretend like you're all judgmental, and you don't want anything to do with the DiMeras... but I think you do. And I think you should go for it.

EJ: I don't care if you're under the knife having brain surgery, all right. If the phone rings, you get up off the table and you pick it up! Okay?

Rafe 2: Okay.

EJ: Otherwise I will be the one taking your brains out!

Rafe 2: There's no need to get angry.

EJ: There's no need to get angry?

Rafe 2: No.

EJ: Tonight could have been a disaster, you simple little moron!

Rafe 2: All right! It was Sami. She wanted to celebrate Valentine's Day, you know? What am I gonna do? I thought that was part of the job.

EJ: Your job...is to do what I tell you to do. All right?

Rafe 2: Okay. I got it. If the phone rings, I answer it, or else you're gonna remove part of my brain.

EJ: You think this is funny, don't you.

Rafe 2: No.

EJ: Hmm? Wipe that smirk off your face.

Rafe 2: Smirk?

EJ: That smirk! You wipe it off your face!

Rafe 2: All right. Well, this might cheer you up. The plastic surgery, all that... you know, what we went through? The scar, she saw it. It was there. Kind of turned her on.

EJ: Okay, you can spare me the details.

Rafe 2: Okay, so what about the brat Allie? What happens now that Rafe tried to escape?

EJ: You let me take care of that.

Allie: But I heard a noise, Mommy.

Sami: I know, sweetheart, but you know what, everything is okay. And I need to get you in bed. It is way past your bedtime.

Allie: Will you tell me a bedtime story, please?

Sami: Of course. One more story, but that--

[Knock on door]

Sami: Who could that be?

Taylor: Oh--

Brady: This is not cool. This is so not cool.

Taylor: I know. You've said that, like, 15,000 times already.

Brady: Taylor, I don't live here anymore.

Victor: Yes, he does.

Maggie: But I'm alone.

Sam: No, you're not. This one's for Mickey.

Melanie: Oh, Sam.

Sam: Happy Anniversary, Maggie.

Nicole: "And if that cart and bull turn over, mama's gonna buy you a dog named Rover. And if that dog named Rover won't bark, mama's gonna buy you a horse and cart. And if that horse and cart fall down, you'll still be the sweetest little baby in town." [Chuckles]

Chad: Speaking of family, I found something tonight and thought you might want it. Isn't that your little sister?

Rafe: [Labored breathing]

EJ: It's a very simple question.

Rafe: I'll bet it is. It's a real no-brainer.

EJ: That said, if you don't get it right, Samantha's going to lose her little girl. So think hard, Rafe. Don't blow it.

Rafe: [Muttering]

[Coughing]

[Loud knocking on door]

Sami: You know what, go wait in your room, sweetheart. I'll come get you in a little bit.

Allie: Okay, Mommy.

[Loud knocking]

Gladys: It's Gladys Pierce from across the hall. Is everything all right?

Sami: Um...yeah. Hi.

Gladys: I'm sure it's nothing, but I just saw the strangest thing.

Brady: Taylor, you can go home.

Taylor: I'm going.

Brady: Hey... why'd you, uh-- why'd you help me?

EJ: Oh, I'm sorry, um... take my scarf.

Taylor: No, no, no.

EJ: No, no, please. No, I insist.

Taylor: How will I give it back?

EJ: It's a gift.

Taylor: Because someone did a good deed for me, and I'm paying it forward.

Nicole: Oh, there you are.

EJ: Thank you for taking care of Johnny.

Nicole: Come on, EJ, you don't have to thank me. I love that little guy. You know that.

EJ: Yeah. I'm sorry. He's having his procedure tomorrow, and that's the only thing that I should be-- you know what, just leave it.

Nicole: EJ, is-- is everything okay with whatever...

EJ: It'll be fine. Okay. It'll be fine.

Nicole: Good.

EJ: Thank you.

Nicole: You thanked me already.

EJ: I'm not talking about Johnny. I'm saying thank you for not asking any questions.

Nicole: Of course. I know my place, EJ. But you weren't exactly truthful with me earlier... telling me that Johnny was asleep. He was awake when you left, wasn't he? Come on. You don't have to make up lies for me. I am happy to be here no matter what. I make no demands, I ask nothing.

EJ: I know. That means a great deal to me. And your being there for Johnny is so very important.

Nicole: Which is why you married me. Remember?

EJ: I remember. I also remember it's because you're smokin' hot.

Nicole: [Chuckles] Oh, thank you.

Sami: Come in.

Gladys: Well, I'm glad to know your kids are all right.

Sami: Yeah, yeah, they're fine. Thank you for your thoughtfulness... but you said you'd seen something strange?

Gladys: Yeah, I did. I saw your husband being dragged away. I thought maybe he was hurt. Last night.

On the next "Days of Our Lives" --

Will: Yeah, EJ-- the guy's messed up.

EJ: Lexie, I'm sorry, I'm not gonna talk about my so-called little brother.

Carly: You shouldn't have to go through this by yourself.
