[Machine steadily beeping]
Daniel: Okay, turn off the machine.
Melanie: Right. Done.
Daniel: Melanie, it looks good.
Melanie: It does?
Daniel: Yeah. Her heart's beating on its own. Nice and healthy.
Melanie: Oh, my God. You did it. You saved her.
Daniel: I think we got it.
Kate: Hello! Anyone home? Hello! Hel--Chloe. Hey, I knocked, but no one answered. The door was unlocked.
Chloe: What are you doing here?
Kate: Well, I was in the neighborhood and I saw that the light was on. So I thought I'd stop by and see my grandson.
Chloe: He's sleeping.
Kate: Okay, well, I'll just drop in there and peek at him and I promise that I won't wake him up.
Kate: What's that?
Kate: Honey, are you all right?
Taylor: Are you following me?
Nicole: Not exactly.
Taylor: Well, uh, I'm on my way to the bus station. Would you like to come along and make sure I get on the bus?
Nicole: All right, I'm not following you. Mom said you called her from here.
Taylor: Did you two have a nice chat?
Nicole: No. Of course not. She started crying and made me feel guilty for kicking you out.
Taylor: That's not how I put it to her.
Nicole: Well, that's how she said it happened.
Taylor: Okay, Nicole, listen, I'm going. Could the last conversation that we have not be a fight? I was happy to come back to Salem. I was happy to see you. Even if it was just for one day.
Nicole: I don't think you'll feel that way after you hear what I have to say.
Maggie: Maxine, is Jennifer here?
Maxine: No, honey, I'm sorry. Dr. Jonas went out to the prison. He's doing the surgery at the infirmary out there.
Maggie: Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
Maxine: Maggie, I'm so sorry. Is there somebody I can call to be with you?
Victor: It's okay, Maxine. I'm here.
Maggie: Oh, Victor.
Officer: In here, please.
Bo: Have you heard from Daniel?
Carly: I was just gonna ask you the same thing.
Officer: Mayor Carver will be back in a few minutes.
Bo: All right.
Carly: It's taking too long. We should've heard something by now.
Bo: No news is good news. I'm sure Daniel will save her.
Melanie: Do I turn the machine back on?
Daniel: No, that's not gonna start her heart back up. We need to do it. Come on, Jennifer. We are not gonna lose you. Come on. Come on!
Carly: That was really strange.
Carly: Um, when Abe asked you to go question them. Who'd you go question?
Bo: That woman Lee from the prison and Walters.
Carly: Walters is here?
Bo: Yeah. Whining that I should let him go help save Jennifer like he's not part and parcel of this whole damn thing.
Carly: This whole thing creeps me out. But I know him as a doctor. I can't believe he knew what those women were up to.
Bo: If he didn't know, it's because he didn't want to know. He wanted to walk around playing God. It didn't matter to him, the small details that people were being killed and their body parts were being sold.
Carly: Okay. Okay.
Bo: It's just... [Exhales] Uh, you were saying?
Carly: I was saying that, after you left, I didn't think that hope would want to be alone in the room with me. Especially since she was so concerned about Jennifer.
Carly: But we talked and she thanked me again for helping.
Bo: Well, she knows how much you did help. Said why.
Carly: Yeah. That aside, you know, she and I are both concerned about Jennifer. And all of a sudden, we have this huge thing in common. But there's more.
Bo: What do you mean?
Carly: I think I got to see the real Hope. You know, the one that doesn't need pills. The one who hasn't gone off the rails. We need to talk.
Bo: Have you heard from the prison?
Abe: Yeah. Just got off the phone. Jennifer's still alive. But it doesn't look good.
Daniel: Come on, Jennifer. Come back to us. Come on.
Nicole: Let's have a drink.
Taylor: Mmm. A drink. Yeah. You tell me to get out of your life and now we're going to go sip cosmos together.
Nicole: Come on. I didn't tell you to get out of my life. I just--I didn't think EJ would be cool with you staying in the mansion.
Taylor: Right. Even with those 500 extra bedrooms.
Nicole: I need to tell you something. Just sit down, please. What would you like?
Taylor: A diet soda.
Nicole: What a surprise. Can I have a dirty martini straight up and a diet soda? Want to go crazy and put a lime in it?
Taylor: I don't like this, Nicole. Look, if--if I had known that you were going to get so mad at me, then, I don't know, times are bad, but--
Nicole: Stop, stop, stop, stop--okay? I need to explain something to you that I don't even quite understand myself.
Taylor: You don't owe me any explanations.
Nicole: When it comes to the family that I was handed, all I know how to do is run away and wrap myself in denial. And, uh, when that family came knocking on my door, the past-- I just didn't know how to handle it. Are you growing the juniper bush? Where is my martini?
Taylor: Nicole, if I had known this was going to freak you out, I wouldn't have come.
Nicole: All right, look. I wasn't fair to you. It wasn't fair for me to lump you in this family thing.
Taylor: I'm your sister. I am your family.
Nicole: What does that mean really? I mean, with a family like ours?
Taylor: We're talking around the subject. We're talking about--
Nicole: Don't say father. Do not call him my father.
Taylor: Nicole, I know how you feel about him.
Nicole: This isn't about how I feel about him. It's about how I feel about you.
Chloe: Just go away, okay?
Kate: That was a prescription, wasn't it? And a card for a doctor.
Chloe: This-- [Laughs]
Kate: This is funny?
Chloe: I was going to say "this is none of your business" like that would actually help. "Hey, Kate, respect a boundary." "Oh, of course, dear, just have one of my brownies first."
Kate: Why don't you think about Parker?
Chloe: You're telling me to think about Parker?
Kate: Yes. Yes, I am. I know we have a history. I know you have reason to be suspect of me.
Chloe: You think?
Kate: Chloe, I'm the baby's grandmother. I want what's best for him. And I think that--
Chloe: You think what? You want to take him away from me?
Kate: You let me finish. I think you are what's best for him--his mother.
Chloe: Really? You think that?
Kate: I do. But I also know all about motherhood. I know about the depression. About being overwhelmed. You need to think about Parker. You need to take help from anyone who can give it.
Maggie: I don't know if I can get through this. She's so young and so full of energy.
Victor: If anyone can get through this, it's Jennifer. And Daniel's doing the surgery. You know how good he is.
Maggie: What was she doing there? Why did this happen?
Victor: She's trying to help Hope.
Maggie: Well, that is just like Jennifer. One crisis after another with all the best intentions.
Victor: Well, I don't think God's going to punish her for trying to help her cousin.
Maggie: Victor, you know how I hate it when you pull strings and throw your weight around? Please would you--would you pull some strings, and throw your weight around, and find out what's happening out there? Please?
Abe: The heart transplant seems to be taking longer than anticipated. Soon as we get word from Daniel, they'll MedEvac Jennifer to University Hospital.
Carly: Something went wrong?
Bo: We don't know that.
Carly: I should've been there. I should've helped.
Abe: Carly, we wouldn't have let you. We really do have a lot of things to sort out.
Carly: I know.
Abe: Look, I'm doing everything I can for your release, but it's complicated.
Bo: What about Hope?
Daniel: Come on.
Melanie: Oh, she's coming back.
Daniel: Come on, Jennifer. You can do this.
Melanie: Wow. Isn't that the most amazing sound in the world?
Daniel: Sounds like angels singing. You don't need me anymore. Okay, Melanie, I think she's ready to be closed up.
Melanie: You did it.
Daniel: Ha. I hope so. I hope so.
Victor: Daniel's still operating. No one knows what Jennifer's condition is.
Maggie: So we wait.
Victor: I'm sorry.
Maggie: I should be good at waiting. Being trapped in a sarcophagus for a while, waiting--ha--should be a breeze.
Victor: Look, I don't know how to put this, but if you want to go to pieces, it won't bother me at all.
Maggie: My fear... if I start... I won't be able to stop.
Victor: It's been a hard day already, hasn't it?
Maggie: You're a dear. You remembered.
Victor: Mickey died a year ago today.
Maggie: I told myself if I could just get through the first year, it would be easier.
Victor: Yeah. You didn't know what this year was gonna be like.
Maggie: How much can you lose, Victor? How many people can you lose and--and still stay the one that they loved?
Victor: You have stayed that person, Maggie. In case you haven't noticed, I've been hanging around quite a bit. You're still the person that Mickey loved. And you're still the person who protects her family against all the crap that's slung at 'em. You're still the best person that I know.
Kate: Believe me, this surprised me as much as it surprises you. But that baby, he puts us on the same side.
Chloe: He does?
Kate: Yes, he does because he needs a strong, healthy mother. Which means that you need support from me, from the doctor. Hell, Chloe, I am happy that you're getting help. And if this doctor isn't helpful, then we'll find one that is.
Kate: Actually, it's really only women who really know what's going on with all of this. You know how everyone tells you that having a baby is the most wonderful thing in the world? No one tells you that your hormones are going to be all over the place. That your--that your mood and your energy is out of control.
Chloe: So my mood is hormonal? It has nothing to do with losing Daniel or having you back in my life?
Kate: Look, I, uh, I'm not gonna judge you. That would be hypocritical. My life hasn't been exactly blameless. All I'm asking is that you let me help you.
Chloe: Hmm. Yeah. You want me to give you an inch so that you can take my baby.
Daniel: Well, that was too close for comfort. Unfortunately, we're not out of the woods yet.
Melanie: Can I let him in?
Melanie: Hi. She's good to go.
Daniel: Well, you know what, feel a lot better once she's back at the hospital and there's a full support team.
Daniel: However, you know, you did the entire work of an O.R. team by yourself.
Melanie: Mm. You must be exhausted.
Daniel: Well, I think the adrenaline's still pumping. I probably won't crash till I get back at University.
Melanie: Yeah. You think she'll be okay?
Daniel: Yeah. She's young and healthy. I think so.
Melanie: Well, let's start calling people--tell them the good news.
Medic: We're good to go.
Daniel: Well, let's get the hell out of here. Good job, honey.
Abe: As much as I wish I could, I can't get Hope released.
Bo: You're not going to send her back to that prison, are you?
Abe: No, no, no. Given everything that went down there, we're going to keep her temporarily at county jail.
Officer: Sorry, sir. Dr. Jonas is on the phone for Dr. Manning.
Daniel: She got through the procedure.
Carly: Thank God. She made it.
Daniel: She's getting into the MedEvac. She should be at University in 15, 20 minutes.
Carly: Okay. All right. You're the best. You know that? You're the best.
Daniel: Well, Melanie deserves kudos too. It was kind of trial by fire in there. For an O.R. nurse, she did great.
Carly: Course she did. She had you. Bye. She's okay. She's okay.
Kate: Chloe, I'm going to tell you something that I had to learn the hard way. After you have a baby, you just can't think in black and white anymore. You make compromise after compromise to make sure that he gets everything he needs.
Chloe: Maybe. But giving birth to parker didn't magically make you someone that I can trust.
Kate: Well, it kind of did. You gave birth to my son's child. That--that links us. You can trust me now because you know that, well, we both want the same thing, don't we? I don't want to take your child away from you. I want to help you. I want Philip to be there to help you with the baby. When you--when you're tired and when you're stressed out, I mean, we can be there--we can be there to help you with some of the burden.
Chloe: Parker is not a burden.
Kate: Why don't you let Philip take Parker for a few days? That way you can get away from all this tension... all this sadness. [Parker cries] Chloe, you need to do what's best for the baby.
Nicole: Earlier, you said that I was mad at you. Taylor, I'm just--I'm just mad full stop, right? I don't like anyone. And nothing that happened to me is your fault. You didn't do anything wrong. You just--you don't understand.
Taylor: No, I don't.
Nicole: I was wrong to blame you. I don't blame you. It's just hard when our brother was used as his punching bag and I was his locker room Lolita. It is hard that we have the same parents--the same father--and you got a pass. Look, we just--we weren't destined to bond, okay? But it was wrong to treat you the way that I did. So here is some money for that motel I told you about. Take the bus in the morning and just...forget about me, okay?
Daniel: Maxine! Maxine, get her into ICU, stat. Let's go.
Maxine: There's a full team waiting for her.
Daniel: Good. Good. Come on. Come on. Go, go, go.
Victor: Daniel, wait. How's she doing?
Daniel: She made it through the procedure. Maggie, I always tell the truth.
Maggie: Okay, well, what is the truth?
Daniel: Well, the heart was taken in a rather crude manner. The re-attachment was difficult.
Maggie: Tell me then.
Daniel: But there is a chance that Jennifer may reject the heart.
Maggie: Her own heart?
Daniel: I'm sorry, but we're just gonna have to wait and see. Please just...
Maggie: [Cries] Her own heart.
Abe: I'm gonna go see if I can speed up your release.
Carly: Thank you.
Bo: Thanks, Abe. Wow. That's great news about Jen.
Carly: Oh, my gosh. Yes, it is.
Bo: And Abe--he's good to his word. He'll get you out of here soon.
Carly: I'm sure he will. But we have a little time, right? We were kind of interrupted before, you know, when I said I wanted to talk about Hope.
Bo: Yeah, yeah.
Carly: As I was saying, she's a very different person than she was. I mean, I would imagine she's who you would call the old Hope.
Carly: Yeah. But you knew that already. You knew that before you broke her out of prison.
Carly: Let me finish. A lot of people said a lot of nasty things about me because I was with you when they wanted you to be with Hope. But I knew that I hadn't come between you. I knew it was because the two of you couldn't be together. So I wasn't guilty. But now, if I stay with you, I would be, 'cause things are very different now, aren't they?
Bo: Yeah, they are.
Carly: Right. So when we leave here, I won't be going home with you.
Carly: Listen to me. Please--please be happy for the time we had together. I know I am.
Maggie: Oh, honey, your dad said you were wonderful.
Melanie: Oh. He was pretty good too.
Maggie: So how's Jennifer?
Melanie: She's stable. We're gonna have to wait and see. She's in the ICU until at least tomorrow morning. Excuse me. I need some coffee.
Maggie: Mmm. Okay. Well, I guess I'll be spending the night here.
Victor: I'll run you home so you can get a bag.
Maggie: No. Uh, it's okay.
Victor: Really? You don't trust me with Chloe, do you?
Maggie: I-I really don't need any more drama, Victor. And, frankly, neither does Chloe. I know what you think of her. And she's very fragile and vulnerable.
Victor: Maggie, she's the mother of my grandchild. My son is in part responsible for her unhappiness. I'm not gonna give her any more problems.
Maggie: Thank you. 'Cause I really don't think she can handle much more.
Bo: I do love you.
Carly: Well, I know that.
Carly: But that's beside the point, right? What we had will always be wonderful. But I guess it wasn't one of those forever kind of thingies, you know? You have that with somebody else, Bo.
Bo: This isn't right.
Carly: Tell me about it. Don't feel guilty. And don't you dare worry about me, okay? Everything about our time together has been a gift. I'm serious. I don't even remember that scared, miserable woman that fell on your doorstep. And please don't be sad.
Bo: Well, that is not your call.
Carly: Well, I'm not sad. I'm a little sad. Stop. Happy for the time that we had together. I really am. We have been through some really terrible things. And you know what, we handled it with a certain amount of class.
Bo: I know you did.
Carly: So let's end it like that. Classy.
Bo: If you really want to-- want to do this, is it wise for you to make me love you even more than I already do?
Roman: Hey, I got some good news.
Bo: Could use some right about now.
Roman: Okay, well, I just met with the D.A. and Carly's free to go.
Carly: Wow. Thank you. You take care of yourself.
Carly: Shh. Thanks for the memories.
Kate: You are such a little angel. Yes, you are. You're a little angel. Chloe, I want you to just think about what I said. Just taking a little time to get your strength back. Parker is gonna be just fine with us.
Chloe: I can't think about that right now, okay?
Maggie: Kate. What a surprise.
Kate: Hi. I stopped by to see my grandson. And Chloe and I had a really nice chat.
Maggie: Really? Is it time for his feeding?
Chloe: I'm exhausted. I have to go to bed.
Kate: Hey. I have to be honest with you. I'm concerned about her.
Maggie: Yeah. Your concern is so touching.
Kate: Oh, that's okay. I can do it. It's no problem.
Maggie: Kate, give me the baby.
Kate: Sure. There you go. There you go. Well, she's in a lovely mood.
Victor: She's had an awful day. She comes home and finds you in her kitchen.
Victor: What did you expect?
Kate: Well, she should be glad I was here. You saw Chloe. She's in terrible shape. Do you see her? She wasn't even capable of feeding her own child. Isn't that wonderful?
Roman: So, uh, what just happened here?
Bo: I'm sure you can guess.
Roman: Yeah. You okay?
Bo: Yeah. Wonderful. Just terrific.
Bo: So when you spoke to the D.A., did you ask about Hope?
Roman: I did. I did. I didn't get very far. It's a pretty complicated situation. And, uh, politically, nobody in that office wants to handle it.
Bo: Roman, we've got to get her out of this mess. We can't send her back to that prison.
Roman: Well, it's not gonna be easy.
Bo: I know. Yeah. Is she still in the holding cell?
Bo: Will they let me see her?
Roman: I doubt it.
Bo: Can you get a message to her for me? Um, tell her that Jen is, uh, doing okay--she made it through the procedure--and that it looks like she's going to make it. Um, knowing her, she won't sleep unless she knows Jen's okay.
Roman: Anything else?
Bo: Yeah. Let her know that I'm gonna get her back with her family.
Roman: Okay. You got it.
Melanie: I'm sorry, but Maxine is bossy, kicking us out of the ICU room like that.
Daniel: No, she's just looking out for us. She knows underneath all the adrenaline, we're both pretty wiped out.
Melanie: No. I mean, re-attaching a human heart in a prison infirmary, that's all in a day's work for me. You were awesome.
Daniel: Ah. Isn't it weird without even knowing your mom growing up, you got that medical thing?
Melanie: I always thought I would be a model or a dictator or both.
Daniel: My God, I wish I would've known you growing up. You must've been really something.
Melanie: Eh. At least we have now.
Carly: I couldn't be prouder of you both.
Taylor: I'm not taking your money, Nicole.
Nicole: Why not? I have a lot and you don't.
Taylor: I didn't come here for money. I thought we could spend a little bit of time together while I sorted things out. I wasn't looking for a handout. I told you that.
Nicole: I know. That's not what this is. It's guilt money. I was rotten to you and I feel bad about it. But not bad enough to change. So enjoy.
Taylor: Nicole, I don't want this money! I just need it. I'm gonna pay her back. As soon as I can, I'm gonna pay her back.
Abe: Taylor. Hey, hey, hey. What are you doing here?
Kate: So then the baby started to cry. She didn't even move. As much as she hates me, she let me get up, and go, and comfort the baby.
Kate: Yeah. And she had a prescription. I'm sure it's for depression. Someone's trying to get her to see a shrink. That baby belongs with Philip. Chez Kiriakis.
Victor: Kate, we've got to be very careful the way we handle this.
Kate: Okay. What's--what's going on now?
Maggie: Well, Parker's all fed. Do you want to hold him now and rock him back to sleep?
Chloe: No. You do it.
Kate: Oh, my God. I'm beginning to understand why Vivian is so frustrated with Maggie.
Kate: She takes all the starch out of you. I am--I have a clear shot at getting our son's child where he belongs, and you're worrying about the niceties.
Victor: Chloe is that child's mother.
Kate: Chloe is a basket case. I'm so close to getting her out of town--to getting her to take an emotional time-out. And when she does, we'll tell everyone that she's abandoned the baby.
Kate: We need to get that baby away from Chloe. And we need to do it as soon as possible.
Bo: Did you see Hope?
Roman: Yeah. It was nice to finally give her some good news.
Roman: But I think maybe you got more to tell her. So since I'm back on the force, I pulled rank and arranged for you to see her tomorrow.
Bo: Great. Great. Thanks.
Daniel: So, um, she's still in critical care. We're very hopeful.
Melanie: Oh, I got to call Nathan and tell him the good news.
Carly: Yeah. Tell him.
Daniel: All right, get out of here.
Carly: She's really something.
Daniel: Yeah. Should've seen her in the O.R. Our kid's a natural.
Carly: Oh, she takes after you.
Daniel: Oh, boy.
Carly: Yeah. Listen, um, I know I haven't been a great friend to you. And I'm sorry. But what you did for Jennifer tonight, you gave her a second chance at life.
Daniel: You know, Fitzgerald said there are no second acts in American lives. I think he was wrong.
Carly: I hope he was.
Abe: Oh, you look terrific. You know, Brandon didn't say anything about you being in town.
Taylor: Probably because he doesn't know I'm here. Yeah.
Abe: You visiting Nicole?
Abe: I didn't know that the two of you kept in touch.
Taylor: Well, we don't. Not really. I try, but I'm a reminder of a lot of things Nicole would rather forget. So long story short, I'm on my way to the bus station.
Abe: Um, I don't think so. You missed the last bus.
Taylor: Okay, well, then, uh, looks like I'm in the market for a motel room.
Abe: No. No. You're not. You're staying with us.
Taylor: Abe, I couldn't.
Abe: You have to. If Lexie finds out that I let you stay in a motel room, she would kill me. You wouldn't want that on your conscience, would you?
Taylor: I guess I don't have a choice in the matter, then. Abe, thank you so much.
Abe: I got to tell you I am so glad I bumped into you. Lexie's gonna be thrilled. Oh. Mmm. Come on. Let's go. I've got this. Go ahead.
Taylor: Thank you.
Maggie: Kate, you're still here.
Kate: Hey. I was just leaving. How's everything upstairs?
Maggie: Oh, fine.
Kate: Oh, good.
Maggie: Nothing for you to worry about.
Kate: Great. So it is always so nice to see you. Victor, I'll talk to you soon.
Victor: Can I, uh, get you a cup of tea before we go back to the hospital?
Maggie: Oh, I'm thinking that I might be staying here tonight.
Victor: Really? Are you worried about Chloe and the baby?
Maggie: All right, was Kate, mmm, just giving you an earful about Chloe?
Maggie: I meant what I said about her, Victor. That poor girl has made some mistakes. But God knows she's paid for them. And I'm not going to have Kate going after her when she is this vulnerable.
Victor: I think Kate is just concerned about the situation-- as we all are.
Maggie: Fine. Then keep Kate DiMera in line, Victor, or you're gonna have to deal with me. And I mean it.
On the next "Days of Our Lives" --
Kate: Leave it to your grandmother, my little angel. You're going to be with Melanie and Philip. Chloe doesn't stand a chance.
Nathan: I know that you and I are not a mistake.
Nicole: Damn it, EJ. Where are you?
Rafe: You son of a bitch!
