Stefano: Ohh, God.

EJ: [Sighs]

[Footsteps]

[Door opens]

Stefano: Oh, Elvis. Ahem. I told Alexander to have you give me a call. I didn't mean for you to come home.

EJ: Yeah, well, the nurse, uh, said Johnny needed some rest, wasn't to be disturbed.

Stefano: So you don't know anything more?

EJ: About the eye? I just thank God they were able to save his sight.

Stefano: Oh, thank God. [Sighs] Look, um, something I need to tell you.

EJ: Well, just before you do that, Father, there's something I should tell you first.

Victor: Ah, your little tote bag, Kate. An overnighter perhaps?

Kate: As a matter of fact, I am going out.

Victor: Huh. Another one of your online friends? Off to find out if you're harmonious, compatible?

Kate: I'm going to Stefano's.

Victor: Oh, Kate, I didn't know you needed money that much.

Vivian: Did you see something?

Gus: No.

Vivian: What are you doing down from the tree? Get back in the tree. Did you hear me? I want you up in that tree as a lookout. What if a ship comes by and we miss it? That would be just like you, to miss a ship.

Gus: You're getting on my nerves.

Vivian: Excuse me?

Gus: Shut up! All right? Shut the hell up.

Vivian: How dare you talk to me like that.

Gus: We're on a desert island. You're a helpless mess. I'll talk to you however I like.

Vivian: What are you doing?

Gus: What does it look like? I'm getting something to eat. What did you do with the food?

Chloe: Carly, hey. Um, you're--you're still working, so, uh, did the hearing go okay?

Carly: Uh, it wasn't a lot of fun, but I still have my license.

Chloe: So Daniel didn't testify against you?

Carly: Nope.

Chloe: Okay, uh... is he here?

Carly: And now we get to the point. You don't care about my hearing or my license. You're just looking for Daniel.

Melanie: Get out of here, Stephanie!

Stephanie: You have pushed me around for the last time!

Melanie: Ow!

Stephanie: Oh, my God. Are you okay?

Melanie: Are you trying to kill me? Oh, I get it, I get it. If I die, then Nathan will come back to you. Is that how it is?

Stephanie: Bitch!

Brady: Hey, hey! Hey, Stephanie, what are you-- what is going on?

Stefano: Ohh, God. Oh, so Sydney go back to sleep?

EJ: Finally. Yeah. She's been fussy ever since she saw Johnny at the hospital. I think she knows something's wrong.

Stefano: Ah. So...ahem. What were you going to tell me, Elvis?

EJ: Look, um... give me a second.

Stefano: Salute.

EJ: Salute. I know this is gonna seem a little bit out of character... but when Johnny was having surgery, I went to the hospital chapel, and, uh... Samantha followed me in there to make a prayer. And she overheard... I wouldn't-- I wouldn't so much say that it was a prayer exactly.

Stefano: No?

EJ: No. It was, uh... more of a negotiation. It's very difficult, you know, trying to figure out what he wants, um... especially given my behavior the last few months, you know. It's not like I'm playing a very good hand, is it really? So I realized I'd have to offer some futures. [Tapping on table]

Stefano: Ha. This is, um... this is not something that you really want to tell me, is it?

EJ: No. Ahem, it is not. I told him that if he saves Johnny's sight, I will end my feud with Samantha. And I have a feeling that if it's gonna work, you know, if he's gonna accept my offer, then it really needs to be sincere. And so... I'm going to end all of my animosity to Samantha. And I would like her to be a part of Johnny and Sydney's lives.

Stefano: Really?

EJ: She heard me make the promise, so not a lot I can do about it now.

Stefano: So... now we wait.

EJ: Yeah. We wait. We wait to see what kind of life my son is going to have.

Brady: You all right?

Melanie: Leave me alone. Actually, get her the hell out of here and then leave me alone.

Brady: Maybe you should go.

Stephanie: What a surprise. Another man leaping in to protect poor victimized Melanie.

Melanie: Aww, Stephanie's upset because Nathan dumped her after he found out what she was really like.

Stephanie: Look who's talking, little Miss Mary Poppins over there. You've been lying your ass off for months now!

Brady: All right, enough! Enough! Go.

Stephanie: Fine. Good luck with your divorce. Hope there's not a prenup.

Melanie: Oh, you are such a bitch, Stephanie!

Brady: Stop! Stop. Melanie. Melanie. What's wrong with you? on the ins have your fruit in fit.

Carly: So to answer your question, Daniel's not here. The surgery was pretty brutal, so he went on a well-deserved break.

Chloe: Surgery? He didn't have any scheduled.

Carly: It was an emergency-- Johnny DiMera. We had to operate on his second eye.

Chloe: Oh. Oh, God, no. Did the surgery go okay?

Carly: As well as can be expected. We'll have to wait to see if he can see.

Chloe: Wow. Poor family. And Daniel. He--he seems like a rock, but on the inside, you know, he just absorbs-- I guess I'm not telling you something you don't already know.

Carly: No.

Chloe: He went alone, didn't he? It's always his instinct, but it's never a good one. I really should be with him right now.

Carly: Then you should call him and offer your services, okay?

Chloe: He won't take my calls.

Carly: Then that's his decision. Don't ask me to be the go-between, okay? Because I wouldn't do that to Daniel, even if you and I were friends, which we're not, Chloe.

Victor: Listen, I don't know what your going rate is, dear.

Kate: Could you just for once stop with the stupid jokes? Johnny's cancer has spread to the other eye, so there is a strong possibility he could lose that eye.

Victor: Oh, dear God.

Kate: So I offered to spend the night with Stefano. He's devastated.

Victor: Of course he is. Kate, wait, uh...look. I can understand your wanting to be with Stefano, but with the whole family in turmoil the way it is, you sure it's safe for you over there?

Kate: I told you. Brady and I took care of Vivian. She isn't a threat anymore.

Victor: Yes, well... actually, I think it's about time you told me exactly how you managed that.

Gus: What did you do with the food, the water?

Vivian: I put it in a safe place. It has to be carefully rationed.

Gus: By both of us.

Vivian: No, by the coolest head. You don't understand, Gus. I am management, you are labor. I am the idea person. I see the big picture, so you need me too.

Gus: I'm stranded on a desert island with Margaret Thatcher.

Vivian: Gus! Thank you.

Gus: That wasn't a compliment. Now, where's the food?

Vivian: Look down, sir, at the proverbial line in the sand, which you drew with your own hand. Step over that and chaos ensues.

Gus: And brute strength rules.

Nathan: No, I was saying I can't accept the fellowship at this time. Yeah, I can't relocate right now. No, I know. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this might have caused, but-- all right, thank you. You too. Bye.

Stephanie: That was Johns Hopkins, wasn't it?

Nathan: That was none of your business.

Stephanie: You turned down a fellowship that could change your life? All for her?

Brady: You're a mess.

Melanie: You think? She's amazing, you know that? She lies, she manipulates, she gets grandma to do her dirty work, and yet she's just as judgmental and self-righteous as always.

Brady: Take it--

Melanie: Thank God Nathan knows how she really is now. I mean, if any good has come from this, it's that now Nathan knows what she's really like.

Brady: Mel, Mel. I was actually talking about you, not her.

Melanie: Did you hear what she said? Like I've got nothing better to do than-- than to go after her fiancÚ?

Brady: What are those?

Melanie: Nothing.

Brady: What do you mean-- what are you covering up?

Melanie: Nothing.

Brady: Melanie! Show me the papers. You're pregnant?

Stefano: Ah, Elvis, I'm tired. I'm tired of living in a war zone. We all need some rest, you know, and peace, especially Giovanni.

EJ: Thank you. You surprise me.

Stefano: Well, you know, I mean, the stakes are just so high now. Let me--let me ask you something. This, uh, pact that you have made with God, how long is the contract?

EJ: I'm sorry?

Stefano: All right. If and when Giovanni recovers, huh? I mean, are you going to keep the contract, or you're going to let it lapse? Now, I know what you're telling me now, okay? But once you know that Giovanni is safe, are you gonna kick Samantha out of here again?

EJ: Father, this is one contract that I intend to keep forever.

Kate: Vivian is right there. We even named the island after her.

Victor: [Laughs] It's the same concept as the sarcophagus, only on a grander scale.

Kate: Mm-hmm. We dropped off food and water.

Victor: How about a copy of Robinson Crusoe?

Kate: How about Swiss Family Robinson?

Victor: You really don't think that they'll find solace in each other's arms, do you?

Kate: You put that vision in my mind now. Uch! Have I allayed your fears? Can I go now?

Victor: I just wanted to make sure you were safe, Kate. Listen, tell Stefano that I do hope he gets good news.

Kate: Good news? I don't even remember what that is anymore.

Philip: Chloe.

Chloe: Are you following me?

Philip: No. No, no. Where's Parker?

Chloe: Uh, with a sitter. I went to talk to Daniel at the hospital. I figured it'd be a little less awkward if I wasn't holding your child.

Philip: You get to talk to him? That's--that's good.

Chloe: No, he wasn't there. And I didn't call ahead to see if he was, because he's not taking my calls. So my swell plan was to ambush him.

Philip: Hey, look, if you need a sitter, let me know, okay? I'd love to spend time with Parker.

Chloe: Damn it, Philip! Please, will you do me a favor? Just forget that he's your son.

Brady: Wow. Philip Kiriakis, one-man population explosion.

Melanie: This is not funny.

Brady: No, it's not funny. The light from funny would take about a million years to hit here. I'm sorry.

Melanie: I was gonna be a really good Kiriakis wife. I was reading a book about Greeks. [Laughs]

Brady: I saw it.

Melanie: They have this saying, this fancy word for "watch out for what you ask for." And I asked God, I said, I have Philip. Just give me a baby, and I'll be the happiest person in the whole world. Oh! Talk about irony.

Brady: Come here. It's all right.

Melanie: At Parker's christening, we were joking around and laughing and talking about baby names. I was so happy. Now I don't think I'll ever be happy again.

Philip: Chloe, I'm never going to forget that Parker is my son, and I'm going to be a part of his life.

Chloe: No, Philip, no. I'm not gonna get Daniel back if you're always a part of the picture.

Philip: But I am going to be part of the picture, Chloe. I'm his father. Can't undo that.

Chloe: No, you--you can stay away, okay? So that Daniel can start to get past what I did.

Philip: Phew. Talk about magical thinking. Look, Chloe, he's not gonna get past the fact that you and I have a child together.

Chloe: Stop saying that. You can stay away, not just because of Daniel. Because of Melanie.

Melanie: I'm so tired of crying.

Brady: I get that.

Melanie: Brady, you can't tell anybody.

Brady: I won't, I won't.

Melanie: If Philip finds out about this baby, if I decide to have this baby, it'll tie me to him forever, and I hate him.

Brady: If?

Melanie: When I was a little girl, I always wanted to have a kid, because I wanted to give him or her two parents that love each other so much, and now...

Brady: And now--and now you're-- you're thinking about terminating the pregnancy, aren't you?

Melanie: It's none of your business.

Brady: I know. You're right, absolutely.

Melanie: I don't want a speech, I don't want to hear your feelings about it.

Brady: You are not gonna hear my feelings about it. I promise you that. This is your decision. All I wanted to tell you was that no matter what you decide to do, Melanie, it would be better to go through it with a friend, don't you think? Since I know about the pregnancy, let me be that friend to you. I promise, I'll just be there for you, I will listen to you, and I won't say a word.

Melanie: If Philip and Victor find out about this, they'll never let it go. And if I give it up for adoption, then I'll have to do it in secret. I'll have to leave here.

Brady: What about the people you love? The people that are here? Your dad, Mom, Maggie? me?

Melanie: I don't want Philip Kiriakis' baby. It's weird, though, when I... when I fell, I was worried maybe I hurt it. I have no idea what to do.

Stefano: What about Nicole? Today was supposed to be your wedding day. I mean, is that still in the works?

EJ: Given my arrangement with God, a wedding would be a little bit counterproductive, don't you think?

Stefano: Well, I mean, this deal that you made with God, you seem very clinical about it. I don't know, very cut and dried.

EJ: Well, maybe I'm just a bit stressed. I mean, I'm worried because my son is sick. Maybe I'm just trying to control my emotions so that I don't start screaming. Maybe that explains it, hmm?

Stefano: Look at me. I'm so very sorry.

EJ: I just don't know what they're gonna do. If they just-- if they tell me that my son can't see, you know.

EJ: [Sniffles] Not feeling my best these days. So...ahem. What was it you were going to tell me?

Harold: Oh, yes. I was--

Kate: All right, Harold, I still know my way around.

Stefano: I was gonna tell you that Katherine was gonna spend the night here.

Nathan: You don't see how none of this is your business.

Stephanie: You told me yourself that this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Nathan: [Sighs] Well... look, it wasn't my pitch to swing at, all right?

Stephanie: You did swing, and you knocked it out of the park, and now you're willing to give that up all for that...

Nathan: All right, why do I have a feeling that this is about your hatred for Melanie and not about my career, Steph?

Stephanie: Of course I hate Melanie. But that doesn't make me wrong about your turning down the opportunity.

Nathan: All right, well, I think you're the last person to judge, all right?

Stephanie: Look, I know I've lost you. I know you're never gonna forgive me for what I did. But you don't know her. You don't see how much she loves being married to Philip and having you on the string.

Nathan: I think that's enough.

Stephanie: Come on, Nathan. Just how long did it take after you dumped me for her to snap her fingers and have you back in the picture?

Melanie: There's, like, a tape loop going off in my head that's saying, "what are you gonna do? What are you gonna do? What are you gonna do?" And I don't know what I'm gonna do.

Brady: You mind if I point out something in your life that really sucks, Mel?

Melanie: How could you come up with anything? My life is perfect.

Brady: Look, I've watched you. I mean, I've really watched you make these really strong connections around here. I don't even know how you've done it, but you've created a family. And now that you don't want anybody to know about this baby--and I get it-- you're alone again.

Melanie: I can't put my Dad through anything else. I can't. Oh, my G-- do you know what he'd do to Philip if he found out?

Brady: A small surgical procedure.

Melanie: I could assist.

Brady: Mel, I'll keep your secret.

Melanie: Oh, my God.

Brady: What?

Melanie: I went to talk to Chloe. I went to yell at Chloe, and I got sick. She asked if I was pregnant, and then she called me again this morning and asked if I was pregnant. I told her no, but what if she didn't believe me?

Victor: Well, Vivian, I hope you're enjoying yourself. Remember, don't drink the water.

Maggie: Victor, talking to yourself, you know what they say about that.

Victor: Maggie, what a nice surprise.

Maggie: This isn't a social visit. Melanie left some things here, and I've come to get them for her so she doesn't have to face any of you.

Victor: You know, I've really grown to like that girl. Sorry she got hurt.

Maggie: Yes, what a surprise it was. When women deal with the men in your family, things usually turn out so well. Hmm. Well, is it all right with you if I go to Philip and Melanie's room?

Victor: Of course it is. You need any help?

Maggie: Maybe after I have everything packed up. Well, well... what's this? Planning a trip, Victor? Or is it an exit strategy?

Philip: What does Melanie have to do with me staying away from Parker?

Chloe: Well, it's the same as with me and Daniel. It'll make it easier for you two to get back together.

Philip: If you think Melanie's just gonna take me back after what I did to her and to her father, I think you're delusional.

Chloe: No, Philip, you can't let her run away from you, not now.

Philip: What are you talking about?

Chloe: I think Melanie's pregnant.

Victor: What the hell does that mean, "exit strategy"?

Maggie: Well, Brady told me how Vivian completely blindsided you and has brought you to your knees, so maybe you are planning an escape.

Victor: Vivian Alamain did not bring me to my knees. And this is very unlike you, Maggie. It's--it's... it's below the belt.

Maggie: Pointing out that you were bested by a woman is below the belt?

Victor: She put you in a sarcophagus. She tried to kill Melanie. Why are you on her side?

Maggie: You're right. Mmm. I'm upset about Melanie, so I was nasty to you, and that was very wrong.

Victor: Damn it. Now, don't apologize. You have every reason in the world to be upset with me.

Maggie: Well, apparently, I can't do anything right! I'll leave you to your map.

Victor: Uh-- how is Melanie? I mean, is there anything that I can do?

Maggie: I don't think so. I don't think there's anything anyone can do. Uh--oh! And by the way, is Vivian upstairs? Because I don't much feel like bumping into her.

Victor: No, she's not here.

Maggie: Really? Where is she? All right.

Vivian: According to the schedule I've designed, you're on guard duty, and I'm due for dinner. "Meat"? What could that be? Oh, well, I'm so hungry, it really won't matter. I'm sure it'll be delicious. Oh, this is very irritating. Apparently, it needs A...

Gus: Can opener?

Stefano: I ran into Katherine earlier, and I was so upset about what was happening with Giovanni, I...

Kate: He needed a friend.

Stefano: Well, if the truth were told, I needed my wife.

EJ: Of course. Well, uh... thank you very much for taking care of my father, Kate. It's lovely to see you again.

Stefano: [Chuckles]

Kate: Well, I think we do need to take care of him. So did you even have your blood tested today?

Stefano: Uh, maybe I should do it now. Excuse me.

Kate: You need to keep yourself healthy for your grandson. Do you want me to go with you?

Stefano: No, no, no, no, no. I'm fine, all right? I'm really fine.

EJ: This is probably a stupid question, but would you like a drink?

Kate: Yes, I would.

EJ: Oh.

Kate: And I would, um, also like to thank you for giving me such a nice welcome, even though you and I both know you didn't mean it.

EJ: Oh, you're welcome.

Carly: Hey. What are you doing here?

Melanie: I dropped my PDA in the sink.

Carly: Oh. [Laughs]

Melanie: So I had to come get my schedule.

Carly: Whoops. Well, you know, you could have called me. It would have saved you a trip.

Melanie: I had nothing else to do. Nathan said you didn't lose your medical license. That's really good.

Carly: Thank you. It means so much to me.

Melanie: Bet it means a lot to Johnny too. Maxine said you and my dad did surgery on him? How's he doing?

Carly: We didn't have to take the eye, but we're gonna have to wait to see if he can keep his sight, so...

Melanie: EJ and Sami must be freaking out.

Carly: Oh, it's just-- it's a terrible ordeal.

Melanie: Having a baby is scary, huh?

Carly: Can be sometimes.

Melanie: If you had to do it over, if you could do it over, would you still have me?

Kate: I want you to know that I am here to take care of your father, and I'm going to keep my distance from you. You certainly don't need any additional stress.

EJ: Well, thank you. I don't really care. Things that used to matter to me just don't seem very important anymore.

Kate: Kids have a way of doing that, slamming home what's important. I think I'm gonna go check on your father. Thanks for the drink. EJ, I do hope that you get good news.

EJ: I'm not just gonna sit here and wait like some bloody idiot.

Nathan: I'm not having this conversation with you.

Stephanie: She's gonna hurt you. You know this, Nathan. She's gonna hurt you. Do you remember your first go-around with her?

Nathan: Yeah, I do.

Stephanie: She played you. Remember that? She played you and then she played Philip. She likes having one on the string and the other one in her back pocket.

Nathan: All right, stop it. Just stop, just stop. For once in your life, stop blaming things on Melanie and just take responsibility for your own actions.

Philip: What did you just say?

Chloe: I'm not sure, but I think that Melanie's pregnant.

Philip: That--that can't-- oh, my God. Why? Why? Why do you think so?

Chloe: Well, I saw her. She came over to tell me off, and then she got really sick.

Philip: And from that, you think she's pregnant? She might have gotten sick from being in the same room with you.

Chloe: No. She begged me not to tell anyone, and then when I called her, she was all panicked.

Philip: So you're telling me after she begged you not to tell anyone, you tell me.

Chloe: I'm telling you because if she's having your baby then you have the right to know. And that is the baby that you should be raising with your wife.

Carly: [Laughs]

Melanie: Why are you laughing?

Carly: No, I just-- quite a few of my life decisions have been made because of you.

Melanie: Yeah, but if you never had me, you wouldn't have to make any decisions. The whole ride would be a lot easier.

Carly: Easy? Easy doesn't give you a reason to get up in the morning. Easy doesn't give you the kind of hope that doesn't go away. Easy doesn't make your heart jump when I get to see you unexpectedly, and when you-- you talk to me like this.

Melanie: Mom, I'm mad at you. I don't--I don't talk to you. I yell at you all the time. That can't be fun.

Carly: It's not, so stop. [Laughs] But, sweetheart, it's worth it. You are, across the board, the best thing that has ever happened to me. And I only hope that one day, you have a daughter of your own and you can look into her beautiful eyes and know the kind of happiness that you didn't know existed.

Vivian: You didn't find it, did you?

Gus: Find what?

Vivian: The food I hi-- that I was stockpiling.

Gus: I wasn't looking for it. There's this beach on the other side of the island. I felled some palm trees, and I spelled out "help."

Vivian: Oh! Gus, that's so proactive of you. Why did you do it on the other side of the island?

Gus: So that when I get rescued, I get rescued alone. So say good-bye to me and my can opener. Damn it. I can't do it.

Vivian: Oh, Gus, what's happened to us? Here, eat... meat.

Gus: No, first, I'll get rid of this line, then I'll serve you, and then I'll eat.

Vivian: Oh, Gus, you're back. We can't forget this. We can't ever let this happen again. We have to remember we're not the enemy. The "Kiriakises" are.

Maggie: You know, Victor, it just doesn't seem like Vivian to leave when she has the upper hand.

Victor: Who knows why Vivian does anything?

Maggie: So where did she go?

Victor: [Sighs] I don't know.

Maggie: And it just doesn't seem like you, because you always know where your enemies are. Or do you know, and you just don't want to tell me?

Victor: Why are we even talking about Vivian? Why aren't you upstairs collecting the rest of Melanie's things?

Maggie: Victor, those alarms are going off in my head. Just exactly what does "V.A." stand for? Oh, my God. What have you done to Vivian now?

Nathan: You did this, all right? We're not together because you're so damn insecure and always feel inclined to play God with people's lives.

Stephanie: What if we were together? You'd still be pining away for Melanie, and she'd be doing everything she could to keep it that way. I cannot believe that I thought you were worth it. I can't believe what I did to hold on to you.

Nathan: Well, I tried to make you happy, all right? And, apparently, I can't. Apparently, nobody can.

Brady: I don't care. No, I don't care that the files are confidential and privileged information. If Vivian Alamain isn't around, take 'em. Thank you.

Chloe: Okay. Who are you and what have you done with Brady Black?

Brady: Could say the same thing about you-- lying to Daniel, one-night stand with Philip. Who are you?

Chloe: You're right. I've changed.

Brady: I think we both have, Chloe.

Chloe: And not for the better.

EJ: Mary? Will you tell Nicole I'm going to the hospital? Keep an eye on Sydney for me, all right? Thank you. [Cell phone ringing] Uh, hello?

Carly: Hey, EJ, it's Carly Manning. Look, I just got word that Johnny is awake, and we are ready to take off his bandages.

EJ: Okay, I'm on my way.

[Knock at door]

[Knocks]

Philip: You have to tell me. Are you carrying our baby?

On the next "Days of Our Lives" --

Bo: I am never gonna tell you where Hope is.

Melanie: Thinking about you makes me sick.

Lexie: We're ready to remove the bandages.
